Lynda Carter turns 75 today, marking five decades since she first stepped into one of television's most iconic roles.

Before she was Wonder Woman, Carter was crowned Miss World USA in 1972 and took acting classes in New York, where one of her classmates was future CBS president Les Moonves. By the time she landed the title role in 1975, her savings from years of touring with a band were nearly gone. "I had $25 in the bank" the day she got the part, Carter has said, after learning that actress Joanna Cassidy had dropped out of the role.

The show ran for three seasons, and Carter's performance, paired with an instantly recognizable costume and theme song, became something fans never forgot. Looking back on the role decades later, Carter said it offered something rare. "There is something about the character where in your creative mind for that time in your life where you pretended to be her... it felt like you could fly," she said.

Fans have echoed that same sentiment for decades. One person recalled dressing up as Wonder Woman "nearly every year" of their childhood, while another admitted they were "obsessed" with the show growing up. One longtime fan summed up Carter's reputation simply: "100% class act. One of the few celebs that no one has a bad word to say about."

Even as she's taken on dozens of roles since, including a recurring part as a U.S. president on Supergirland a cameo as Asteria in Wonder Woman 1984, Carter has said she's never wanted to distance herself from the character that made her famous. For more than a decade, anglers fishing Lake Memphremagog, which spans the Vermont-Quebec border, have been pulling up brown bullhead catfish covered in strange black lesions. Now, scientists say they've finally identified what's causing it.

According to a study published July 22 in the journal Nature, researchers confirmed the tumors are a transmissible cancer, meaning the cancer cells themselves spread directly between fish, behaving less like a typical tumor and more like a parasite. It's only the fourth time this kind of contagious cancer has ever been documented in any animal on Earth, following prior cases in dogs, Tasmanian devils, and several species of clams.

"We have not seen this cancer in other catfish or other bottom-dwelling fish in Lake Memphremagog, so we don't believe that they can pass it to any other species," said Julie Dragon, a molecular geneticist at the University of Vermont who helped lead the research, according to Vermont Public. "I don't think there's a threat to the public."

The cancer shows up as raised black lesions and lumpy tumors on the fish's skin. Tom Jones, a fish biologist with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, said anglers have described the growths in visceral terms for years, with one describing a "black tar-like substance" that came off in his hands while handling a fish. A survey conducted between 2014 and 2017 found that between a quarter and a third of all brown bullhead in the lake had the growths.

Researchers only confirmed the cancer's transmissible nature through genetic testing. Dragon and her team compared the tumor tissue's genes to the surrounding healthy tissue on the same fish, expecting them to closely match, the way most cancers resemble their host. Instead, they found the tumors across different fish were more closely related to each other than to their own hosts, a telltale sign that the cancer cells were spreading between individual fish rather than developing independently in each one.

Scientists still don't know exactly how the cancer spreads between fish, though Dragon suspects it may be tied to spawning season, when the bullhead gather in large groups. "We think that it is something that they're exposed to maybe at maturation when they spawn and they gather together in these big aggregate groups," she said.

Parsley and cilantro have been identified as possible sources of the cyclospora outbreak by health officials in North Carolina.  

The parasite has become infamous for gastrointestinal illness, making news for the risk of explosive diarrhea. A spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services claimed parsley and cilantro could be linked to cyclospora per a Consumer Reports article published on Thursday, July 23. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cyclospora is caused by consuming food or water contaminated with human feces containing the parasite. 

Cyclospora infects the small intestine and may or may not cause symptoms. If left untreated, signs of the illness may last several days to over a month. Symptoms include watery diarrhea, nausea, cramping, bloating, and fatigue. 

State officials revealed that lettuce may be a contender, but the two herbs are “showing up repeatedly” in people who have been infected. The outlet cited CarlWilliams, a public health official at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. 

“We have not noticed that association here,” he said. “We can say that because we do a thorough investigation of all of these reported cases in collaboration with our local health departments.”

Williams emphasized there is still no definitive source that’s causing the cyclospora outbreak. Investigators are looking at parsley, cilantro, and lettuce as possible links due to the frequency with which the greens have been consumed by those infected. 

According to Consumer Reports, the North Carolina DHHS urges people to rethink what ingredients they use. 

“If using ingredients that have been identified to be associated with the increase in cyclospora cases in North Carolina like lettuce, parsley, and cilantro, please consider removing or cooking fully to avoid getting yourself or others sick,” the department said. 

North Carolina has seen 561 cases of cyclosporiasis since May first this year, which is almost twice the number of reported cases in all of 2025. 

Baseball is a sport rooted in tradition, making every technological advancement and rule change a delicate balancing act. From instant replay to the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system, Major League Baseball has worked to modernize the game without changing the beloved pastime.

T-Mobile, the company behind many of the new advancements, has spent the last several years working behind the scenes to help develop the ABS challenge system, which launched in the Major Leagues at the start of the 2026 season.

According to Morgan Sword, the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations at MLB, every change is rooted in improving the fan experience.

"We have made changes to the game that are designed to be responsive to fans' opinions," he said. "We've tried very hard to keep in our heads that we're really trying to accomplish two things here. Of course, we're trying to get more calls right—we're trying to get the right outcome and officiate the game as best we can. But also, we wanted to make the game better, and we want to be entertaining; we want fans to have a positive experience."

That philosophy is perhaps most visible through the ABS challenge system, which allows pitchers, catchers and hitters to challenge a ball or strike call immediately after an umpire's call. Without replacing the human aspect of the game, the technology gives players a limited number of opportunities to contest calls.

For T-Mobile, the ABS challenge system is just one example of how technology can enhance the fan experience while preserving baseball's traditions.

"It's all of those things and the experiences that we give fans; that's really important to us as a partner, and we'll continue to look at new ways to sort of push that year-over-year," Amy Azzi, the VP of Sponsorships at T-Mobile, explained. "There's 162 games that we can look at to continue pushing that experience forward, and I think you'll start to see a lot of opportunities where technology can come into play."

And it's not just the fans and the top executives who are enjoying what the new technology brings to the game. Current and former players alike (and surprisingly, the umpires) have spoken favorably about the ABS challenge system.

Former Philadelphia Phillies star Chase Utley believes the system would have been valuable throughout his 16-season career.

"I think it would have helped," he said. "I think what we're seeing right now is calls are getting right, and at the end of the day, it's about getting the calls."

Following the success of the ABS challenge system, T-Mobile and MLB will continue using their partnership and new technologies to push the sport forward without replacing traditions.

Jon Bon Jovi abruptly ended his concert early on Thursday, July 23.

The singer-songwriter was about 90 minutes into his set at Madison Square Garden in New York City when he called it quits due to a health issue.

“Don’t throw away your ticket stubs, I’m gonna figure something out, OK?” he told fans. “Just hold onto it, we’ll figure out how to reschedule.”

“I’m gonna have to cool it for a night,” the singer said before walking off stage. “I feel great, I’ll see you again soon, bye bye.”

As he was exiting, Bon Jovi gave a thumbs up to a roaring crowd and hugged his band members.

This was his eighth show on his Forever Tour. During the concert, Bon Jovi performed the 1986 hit “Livin’ On a Prayer” with the lead singer of Train, PatMonahan. 

“Jon Bon Jovi spoke from stage and told fans he has been battling a sinus infection which led to the show’s early ending,” a spokesperson for Bon Jovi told Rolling Stone in a statement. “As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band. Updated information will be available shortly.”

The 64-year-old rocker returned to touring this month, four years after having surgery for a strained vocal cord. He spoke to Peopleabout his recovery in a June cover story.

“I’d often joked and said the only thing that’s ever been up my nose was my finger,” he said. “I never did anything to hurt the cords; I didn’t have any excesses. I’m a trained vocalist. I’ve practiced the craft.”

Bon Jovi revealed his doctor told him his vocal cords were “atrophying.”

“I’m fully recovered,” he said in June. “It was longer than I’d ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith.”

Long before Wicked became a global phenomenon and a blockbuster film franchise, Kristin Chenoweth helped bring one of Broadway's most beloved characters to life.

On July 24, the Tony Award-winning actress and singer turns 58, marking another milestone in a career that has spanned Broadway, television, film and music.

While she's built an impressive résumé over the past three decades, Chenoweth remains best known to many fans as the original Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, the role she originated alongside Idina Menzel when the Stephen Schwartz musical premiered on Broadway in 2003.

Based on Gregory Maguire's novel, Wicked reimagines the story of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of Elphaba and Glinda. Chenoweth's bubbly, comedic performance as Glinda quickly became one of the production's defining elements, earning her a Tony Award nomination and helping establish the musical as one of Broadway's biggest modern successes.

More than 20 years later, Wicked remains one of the highest-grossing Broadway productions of all time, while Chenoweth's original portrayal continues to influence every actress who has stepped into the role since.

Although Wicked introduced her to millions of theater fans, Chenoweth's Broadway success began years earlier. In 1999, she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, earning widespread acclaim for her scene-stealing performance as Sally Brown.

Outside the theater, Chenoweth has enjoyed a successful television career with memorable roles in Pushing Daisies, The West Wing, Glee and Schmigadoon!. Her performance in Pushing Daisies earned her an Emmy Award in 2009, further showcasing her versatility as both a comedic and dramatic performer.

She has also released multiple albums spanning Broadway standards, country and Christian music, while continuing to perform in concerts around the world.

In recent years, Chenoweth has remained closely connected to Wicked, frequently celebrating the musical's enduring legacy and supporting new generations of performers. She has also spoken enthusiastically about seeing the beloved story reach a wider audience through the recent film adaptation, introducing Glinda and Elphaba to millions of moviegoers.

Billy Idol’s “Dancing with Myself” is now one of the best-known songs linked to the British rock star, but its journey to becoming a lasting classic was far from easy.

The song, first recorded with Gen X, was released in the United Kingdom in 1980. It reached only No. 62 on the UK Singles Chart, making its first run a commercial disappointment. After Gen X broke up and Idol began his solo career, he released a new version in the United States in 1981.

That release helped introduce the song to a much wider audience, although it still did not become a major mainstream chart hit at the time. The Billy Idol version reached No. 27 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Nearly 45 years after its 1981 solo release, however, “Dancing with Myself” has outlived its early chart struggles. The song has become a defining part of Idol’s catalog and a lasting example of how a track that fails to make a big impact at first can later become part of rock music history.

The song also remains closely tied to Idol’s rise from the British punk scene to international rock fame. Its mix of new wave, post-punk, dance-rock and punk energy helped show the direction Idol would take as a solo artist.

Billy Idol's ‘Dancing with Myself’ Began With Gen X

The story of “Dancing with Myself” began before Billy Idol became a solo star.

Idol and bassist Tony James wrote the song during their time with Generation X. The band later shortened its name to Gen X after a lineup change. The song was recorded and eventually released by Gen X in 1980.

According to American Songwriter, its inspiration came from a trip to Japan in 1979. Idol and James saw young people dancing in a Tokyo discotheque. Instead of dancing with one another, the crowd appeared to be dancing while looking at their own reflections in the club's mirrored walls.

That scene became the idea behind the song.

The lyrics include the line, “A-with the record selection and the mirror’s reflection/I’m a-dancing with myself,” directly connecting the song to the experience that inspired it.

Over the years, some listeners have understood the song as having a sexual meaning. However, the original idea came from the image of people dancing alone while looking at themselves in mirrors.

The Gen X version reached No. 62 on the UK Singles Chart in its initial release period. It later returned to the chart in early 1981 but again failed to become a major hit.

Soon after, Gen X broke up. That could have been the end of the song's story. Instead, it became part of the beginning of Billy Idol's solo career.

After moving forward as a solo artist, Idol revisited the song in 1981. Producer Keith Forsey remixed it for release in the United States, placing less focus on the guitars and bass while removing the tambourine.

The new version was released as part of Idol's early solo work and helped launch his career in the American market.

The song still did not immediately become a major pop chart success. But Idol's growing profile changed how people heard it.

His solo career gained momentum, and his music videos became an important part of the new MTV era. The video for “Dancing with Myself,” directed by Tobe Hooper, gave the song a powerful visual identity. Idol appeared as a lone figure in a post-apocalyptic city setting, surrounded by strange, partying figures.

The video became an important part of Idol's early MTV presence.

By the time the song reached a larger audience, Idol was no longer simply the frontman of a former British punk band. He had become a major solo performer with a distinctive look, sound and attitude.

His 1982 debut album, Billy Idol, helped establish him in the United States. His 1983 album Rebel Yell pushed his fame even further with songs such as “Rebel Yell,” “Eyes Without a Face” and “Flesh for Fantasy.”

“Dancing with Myself” benefited from that growing recognition.

The song was reissued in 1983, but it again struggled on the charts. In the United States, that release reached No. 102 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, while the song reached No. 39 in Canada and No. 9 in New Zealand.

Those numbers tell an unusual story.

“Dancing with Myself” was never a huge chart smash in the same way as some of Idol's biggest hits. Yet its place in popular culture continued to grow.

The song has also been covered by other artists. Maren Morris released her own version in 2024, giving the track a new arrangement with acoustic guitars, banjos and her smoky vocals. 

Idol himself has continued to perform the song throughout his career. In May 2026, he performed “Dancing with Myself” as part of a medley at the American Music Awards while accepting a lifetime achievement award. He was joined by longtime collaborator and guitarist Steve Stevens.

Per Hollywood Reporter, Idol told the audience, “When I started out in punk rock back in 1976, we thought it may only last about six months — let alone 50 years.”

The song's continued presence also comes as Idol remains active on the road. His 2026 touring plans include his “It’s a Nice Day To… Tour Again!” run, along with a five-show “Hot in the City” Las Vegas residency at Fontainebleau in August and September.

Today, “Dancing with Myself” stands as a classic Billy Idol song and one of the enduring tracks from the early 1980s rock and new wave era.

Australian author Sarah A. Parker originally self-published her epic romantasy story When the Moon Hatched in early 2024. A smash hit in part thanks to BookTok and other online readers, the book was picked up by Avon and HarperVoyager and republished shortly after traditionally. This was Parker's first traditionally published novel.

When the Moon Hatched is the first book in Parker's Moonfall series. The sequel,The Ballad of Falling Dragons, was published in May of 2026. The sequel was an instant New York Times No. 1 bestseller and has topped romantasy lists ever since. Readers are loving the series for how fast-paced it is, as well as commending it for having a mesmerizing world and complex magic system.

Most recently, the reader's platform Goodreads released its list of the "Most Popular Romance and Romantasy Books of 2026." For Romantasy, The Ballad of Falling Dragons was ranked No. 2. Amongst Goodreads readers/users, the novel has been rated almost 48,000 times and holds a 4.4 cumulative rating.

The Ballad of Falling Dragons picks up with protagonist Raeve being forced to choose between the path of life or death while the world is on the brink of yet another devastating moonfall. Moonfalls occur in the world because dragons become moons when they die, and they create catastrophic events when they fall back to Earth. She and Kaan Vaegor, still deeply in love and connected, must work to find their way back to each other. Kaan is also faced with saving his kingdom from ruin while Raeve's long-forgotten past is bubbling at the surface, ready to reveal itself.

Parker has stated that the Moonfall series will be a trilogy, with one final book remaining to complete the series. Few details are known about the final installment thus far.
