Fans of fantasy films could argue that the genre became less niche in the 21st century, especially after the release of Peter Jackson's adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books. So, it only makes sense for the final and third film from Jackson's trilogy, 2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, to be crowned "the greatest fantasy film" since 2000.

On July 15, Collider released a ranking of the "15 best fantasy movies of the 21st century so far." The publication put The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2004, at the list's top spot. Other fantasy films featured on the ranking included Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest from 2006, 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Spirited Away, released in 2001, and Pan's Labyrinthfrom 2006.

Collider argued that The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King deserved recognition because of its incredible story, full of adventure, and how it expertly wraps up Frodo (Elijah Wood) and the rest of the Fellowship's journey.

Peter Jackson Shared How He Felt About His 'Lord of the Rings' Films Getting Oscar Nominations While Promoting 'The Return of the King'

In an interview promoting The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Jackson shared how it felt receiving Best Picture nominations for both the 2003 film and the first movie in the trilogy, 2001's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings. The Heavenly Creatures director explained that he didn't focus his energy on ensuring his Lord of the Rings films would win Oscars. Rather, as a fan of Tolkien's books, he wanted to make films that honored the original text. Jackson clarified that he did want audiences and critics to enjoy the films.

"The Oscars tend to be just sort of like an extra bonus on the end. The nominations are fantastic. And, you know, they're ultimately peer compliments, really, from other filmmakers who think you've done a good job, which is really great," said Jackson during the 2003 interview.

Every comedian has one joke that they remain most well known for, be it in the form of Monty Python's famed "Dead Parrot" sketch or Abbott & Costello's "Who's on First?" schtick.

With the late great Rodney Dangerfield, said recurring joke took the form of his self-deprecating "I don't get no respect," a famous series of jokes the Caddyshack star shared throughout the final 30 years of his career.

Launching the comedian to new heights in the entertainment industry, Dangerfield continues to remain closely tied to his signature catch phrase, imploring it in a variety of jokes, including:

• "I tell ya when I fly, I don't get no respect. I took one of those cheap flights, no frills. I finished eatin' and had to do the dishes."
• "When I was a kid I got no respect. I told my mother, I'm gonna run away from home. She said, On your mark."
• "With my doctor, I don't get no respect. I told him I want a vasectomy. He said with a face like mine, I don't need one."

Interestingly, Dangerfield once claimed that the inspiration for this oft-used catchphrase originated from 1972's Oscar-winning crime film, The Godfather, perhaps the most unexpected of places for comedic subject material.

According to Cracked.com, Dangerfield once wrote in his 2001 memoir It Ain’t Easy Being Me that he came up with his signature joke shortly after The Godfather's initial novel release, followed by its later adaptation by Francis Ford Coppola.

As per Dangerfield, though, the punchline he originally had in mind was "nothing goes right."

"It worked pretty well, but a few years later, the book The Godfather came out and it was a bestseller and then the movie came out, which was even bigger," the comedian wrote.

“Because of The Godfather, suddenly all anybody would talk about was ‘respect,’” he continued. “You’ve gotta show me some respect… If she’s with me, you show her respect… It’s all about respect.”

“I realized that fit pretty well with the image I was now working with onstage, so I decided to come up with a joke that had the word ‘respect’ in it," the comedian finished by saying.

In the end, the joke worked, proving such a massive hit among audiences that Dangerfield incorporated into his act with more and more frequency. The rest, as they say, is history.

Rosie O'Donnell is reflecting on her relationship with her Harriet the Spy co-star, Michelle Trachtenberg, who died in February 2025 at the age of 39.

O'Donnell, 64, sat down for a new interview with Variety and looked back on working with Trachtenberg, who played the title role opposite O'Donnell in the 1996 film adaptation of Harriet, which is based on the beloved 1964 novel by Louise Fitzhugh. Calling her death a "tragedy," O'Donnell said the actress, who appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, struggled with addiction issues.

"She got into drugs and alcohol, I believe, and then I lost touch with her. In the last few years, when she was in pretty bad shape, she would call me, and we would talk. I also called her mother to find out what was going on, and her mother told me what was happening, and how long it had been happening," said O'Donnell.

She continued, reflecting on how she tried to connect with the actress several times.

"We were supposed to see each other three or four times, and she just never showed up — sometimes at restaurants, other times at my house where we’d had someone prepare the whole meal. I would call her and go, 'Honey, are you heading over?' and she’d go, 'Was that today?' She was not in good shape," said O'Donnell. "I didn’t think that she would die. With most people suffering from addiction, their loved ones think that they’ll survive it, but you can die from your addiction to drugs or alcohol, and it happens too often that it must be taken seriously."

O'Donnell added that she wished she could have done more, but Trachtenberg "was inaccessible toward the end, and it was tragic."

"She was a real genius child who was able to memorize anything, pick up her lines, you could improvise with her, and she was connected and right there. She was so close to her mother, Lana, and her sister, who’s a ballerina. They were a very loving family," said O'Donnell.

The Grand Ole Opry has announced its latest Opry 100 Honors celebration, and this time it will shine a spotlight on one of country music's most groundbreaking artists—Charley Pride.

Opry 100 Honors Charley Pride is set for Tuesday, Sept. 22, celebrating the Country Music Hall of Famer's extraordinary career and lasting influence on country music. The tribute concert will feature performances from Opry members Darius Rucker and Pam Tillis, along with Neal McCoy, Pride's son Dion Pride, and additional artists to be announced.

"The Grand Ole Opry held a very special place in my father's heart, and our family is deeply grateful to see his music and legacy celebrated on the stage he loved so much," Dion Pride said in a statement. "It will be an honor to perform alongside artists who admired him and to share his songs with the fans who have kept them alive for generations."

Opry executive producer Dan Rogers said Pride's appearances were unforgettable.

"Every single night Charley Pride came home to the Opry was an event,” said Rogers. “His performances were amazing. The crowd response was like no other. And the backstage area was always, always buzzing. Charley’s spirit and songs live on, and we’re so looking forward to celebrating both on the Opry stage in September.”

Pride made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 1967 after growing up listening to its broadcasts on WSM radio. Although he initially declined an invitation to become a member because of his demanding touring schedule, he officially joined the Opry in 1993 and remained one of its most beloved ambassadors throughout his career.

Across more than five decades, Pride recorded 29 No. 1 country hits, earned three Grammy Awards, sold tens of millions of records and became one of RCA Records' best-selling artists. His signature songs include "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'," "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone," "All I Have to Offer You (Is Me)," "A Shoulder to Cry On" and "Roll On Mississippi." As one of country music's first Black superstars, he also helped break barriers for generations of artists who followed.

The Opry honor comes a year almost to the day of the 2025 posthumous release of Pride's long-lost Endlessly: A Tribute to Brook Benton recordings, which finally surfaced decades after they were made.

Tickets for Opry 100 Honors Charley Pride are on sale now. Beginning July 16, $5 from every ticket sold for Opry 100 Honors shows will benefit the Opry Trust Fund, which provides financial assistance to members of the country music community facing medical emergencies and other hardships.

Kerri Strug's Olympic career may have been brief, but one unforgettable vault made her go down in sports history forever.

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the then-18-year-old gymnast delivered one of the Games' most iconic performances, helping Team USA capture its first-ever women's team gold medal despite suffering a serious ankle injury moments earlier. Nearly three decades later, it's still considered one of the greatest displays of determination ever seen on the Olympic stage.

Competing as part of the legendary Magnificent Seven, Strug entered the final rotation with the Americans on the verge of making history. After landing awkwardly on her first vault and injuring her ankle, she somehow found the strength to complete one final attempt.

The crowd watched in silence as Strug sprinted down the runway, launched into the air and stuck the landing before raising her arms in triumph. Moments later, she collapsed in pain. The vault secured the gold medal for Team USA.

The remarkable story was even set to receive the Hollywood treatment. Earlier this year, Deadline reported that Millie Bobby Brown would portray Strug in the biopic Perfect—set to premiere in 2027. More recently, however, it’s been reported that Brown has exited the project over alleged creative differences with producers, leaving the film's future uncertain.

While the movie's status remains up in the air, Strug has found a new purpose beyond gymnastics. Now 48, she works as a program manager for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention within the U.S. Department of Justice, helping organizations develop programs for at-risk youth.

"I help nonprofit organizations—tribal and government programs that receive federal funding—with developing programs for high-risk youth," she explained in a September 2024 interview with the Phoenix Mercury. "So, I feel like I'm still serving Team USA in some capacity."

She also hopes her story encourages the next generation: "I want to tell young girls out there that it's really important to believe in yourself and your dreams, not your fears…You gotta stay focused on what you want and it's not always going to be good."

I grabbed the container of pickle brine post my kids demolishing another quart container of farmer's market pickles that was waiting for a second life, mixed up one of TikTok's most talked-about cocktails and set out to find out whether this viral drink is actually worth making or if it's just another social media gimmick.

After one sip, I understood exactly why people can't stop talking about it.

What Is the Viral TikTok Pickle Margarita?

The viral pickle margarita is exactly what it sounds like: a classic margarita with a splash of pickle brine mixed into the cocktail. Most versions include tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur and pickle juice, while many recipes also add sliced jalapeños for heat and finish the glass with everything from kosher salt to Tajín.

What makes the drink so popular is that it doesn't completely reinvent the margarita, it simply leans into flavors that were already there. Margaritas have always balanced sweet, salty, tart and citrusy notes. The pickle brine simply amplifies that savory, salty element while adding a bright punch of acidity that keeps the drink tasting incredibly fresh.

Like most viral recipes, there are dozens of variations floating around online. Some people blend theirs into a frozen cocktail, others shake it over ice. I've even seen versions using bread-and-butter pickle juice, spicy pickle brine and garlic dill pickle juice. That's part of the fun—every jar of pickles creates a slightly different cocktail.

The Ingredients You Need (And the One Mistake To Avoid)

• Tajín and flaky salt, for the rim
• 2 ounces Suavecito Blanco Tequila
• 1 ounce fresh lime juice
• ¾ ounce orange liqueur
• ½ to ¾ ounce dill pickle brine
• 1/2 ounce agave syrup
• 2–3 fresh jalapeño slices, optional
• Ice
• Pickle spear and jalapeño slices, for garnish

Every great margarita starts with great tequila, and because this recipe keeps the ingredient list so simple, the tequila really gets a chance to shine. I used Suavecito Blanco Tequila, which has a crisp, clean agave flavor that pairs beautifully with the bright lime juice and savory pickle brine without overpowering either one.

Instead of fighting against the pickle flavor, it creates a balanced cocktail that tastes refreshing, smooth and surprisingly sophisticated. When there are only a handful of ingredients in your glass, using a quality tequila makes all the difference.

The Pickle Brine

My favorite pickle brine actually comes from our local farmers market. Every week my kids absolutely devour a quart of fresh dill pickles, which usually leaves me with a jar full of delicious brine that I can never bring myself to throw away. Turns out, this cocktail is exactly what it was waiting for.

That said, almost any dill pickle brine will work here. Love spicy pickles? Use that brine for an extra kick. Garlic dill pickles add another layer of savory/umami flavor, while extra-herby pickles bring fresh dill notes that make the cocktail even brighter. Each one creates a slightly different drink, so don't be afraid to experiment.

The Rim

One of my favorite things about this trend is that there really aren't any rules. I've seen rims made with classic kosher salt, Tajín, crushed pink peppercorns and even sugar.

Personally, I like a combination of Tajín and flaky sea salt. It adds a little citrus, a little spice and just enough salt to complement the pickle without overwhelming the drink. If you're using a spicy pickle brine, plain flaky salt works beautifully too.

The One Mistake To Avoid

Don't use old, tired pickle brine that's been sitting in the back of your refrigerator for months. Because the brine is one of the stars of this cocktail, you want it tasting fresh, bright and full of dill, garlic and vinegar.

If the pickle jar has been hanging around forever or only has a tablespoon of cloudy liquid left at the bottom, start with a fresher jar. The better your pickle brine tastes on its own, the better your margarita will taste.

Step-by-Step Viral Pickle Margarita Recipe

1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip it into a mixture of Tajín and flaky salt.
2. Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, pickle brine and if using, jalapeño slices to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
3. Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds until well chilled.
4. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice and strain the cocktail over the top.
5. Garnish with a dill pickle spear and an extra jalapeño slice, if desired.

How To Make a Spicy Jalapeño Pickle Margarita

If you enjoy a little heat, this is where the cocktail really comes alive.

Simply toss in two or three fresh jalapeño slices into your shaker before adding the remaining ingredients. For a milder drink, remove the seeds first. Want to really turn up the heat? Add an extra slice as a garnish or swap in the brine from spicy pickles instead of traditional dill pickles.

The best part is that the heat doesn't overpower the drink, it simply complements the bright citrus and salty pickle flavor, making every sip taste even more refreshing.

My Honest Review: Does a Pickle Margarita Actually Taste Good?

I'll admit, I expected this to be one of those viral drinks that's more fun to watch than it is to actually drink. Instead, it completely won me over. This is genuinely a special cocktail. The pickle brine adds a deep, savory richness, much like olive brine does in a dirty martini, but it never overpowers the margarita. Instead, it enhances everything else in the glass.

Following her success in Crave’s hockey romance series Heated Rivalry and Paramount’s Yellowjackets, Sophie Nélisse is back to star in an upcoming book-to-TV adaptation for Netflix.

The series will bring Carley Fortune’s novel This Summer Will Be Different to the screen. According to Deadline, the show of the same name will begin production later this summer in Prince Edward Island and Toronto.

Creators and showrunner Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart revealed that the show “is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island.” Nélisse will star as Lucy, a woman in her 20s navigating “her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.

Although Netflix didn’t share Lucy’s character description, Deadline reported that in the book, “she sits in a complicated space between her best friend Bridget and Bridget’s brother Felix.”

In March, it was announced that This Summer Will Be Different would be getting a Netflix adaptation, and Clark, Stewart and Fortune will executive produce the series.

“I fell in love with Prince Edward Island first in the pages of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables and again when I visited with my best friend in my early twenties,” Fortune revealed in a statement to Deadline at the time. “That vacation, the beauty of the island, the warmth of its people, and the friendships that sustain us – are the foundation of This Summer Will Be Different. I’m thrilled to bring this sweeping love story to the screen with Netflix and to transport audiences to the glittering shores and windswept beaches of PEI.”

When Deadline shared the news on Instagram that Nélisse will star in the series, one fan said that “Sophie's legacy era is coming.”

“Can’t wait to see Lucy and Felix come to life,” another said.

“Oh she’s perfect 🥹” one user commented.

Heated Rivalry’s second season is set to begin filming this summer. While it hasn’t been confirmed if Nélisse will reprise her role as Rose Landry, she teased a return in an interview with Gayety.

“It’s been truly one of the funnest, most heartwarming sets I’ve ever been on,” Nélisse said of Heated Rivalry.

Groen left no chance for his other contestants with a runaway lead of $30,800 at the end of the DJ round. Migliori and James had $5,200 and $1,000, respectively, which wasn’t enough to dethrone the 11-day champ. 

It didn’t even matter that Groen was the only one to answer FJ incorrectly (“What is… Bhutan?”), dropping $9,2000 for a daily total of $21,600, which far exceeded Migliori and James’ totals. Migliori wagered $5,200 for a second-place total of $10,400, while James wagered $900 for a third-place spot of $1,900.

Groen will be back on Friday for attempt number 12.

Melissa Gilbert won't be returning to When Calls the Heartnext season—and it doesn't appear to have been her decision.

The actress shared the news on Instagram. "Many people have asked if I will be returning to When Calls the Heart this coming season," she wrote. "The answer to that is no I will not. I am told this is due to 'budget issues.' That said, I wish all my sweet friends in Hope Valley a wonderful and successful season 14."

Fans were disappointed by the update, with many saying they were "sad" to hear the news and hoping the series would find a way to bring back her character, Georgie. Others questioned the explanation, with some speculating that her departure could be related to her husband's ongoing legal case, though neither Gilbert nor the show has suggested any connection.

Gilbert took a step back from work to focus on her family after her husband, actor and director Timothy Busfield, was indicted in New Mexico on four counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor. Busfield has denied the allegations, pleaded not guilty, and is scheduled to stand trial in May 2027.

During the legal proceedings, Gilbert said she needed to step away and "lean into that truth fully" as her family navigated the difficult situation. Despite public criticism, she has continued to publicly support her husband and maintain his innocence.

Gilbert later returned to work as chief creative officer of her lifestyle brand, Modern Prairie. The couple also left their Manhattan apartment to live full-time at their cabin in New York's Catskill Mountains.

Gilbert joined When Calls the Heart in Season 12 as recurring guest star Georgie McGill, a former Mountie forensic investigator with a romantic history with Bill Avery (Jack Wagner).

The role marked a return to the frontier-drama genre that made her a household name on Little House on the Prairie. Georgie and Bill's relationship quickly blossomed into a fan-favorite mature romance, which Gilbert has said gave her "butterflies" in her 60s.

When Calls the Heart will return for Season 14 in 2027.

Chloe Fineman, known for her spot-on celebrity impressions, is one of the most versatile SNL cast members. Known for her uncanny celebrity impersonations (her Drew Barrymoreimpression is frighteningly accurate), Fineman has been an integral part of the Saturday Night Live cast for the past seven seasons. The Northern California native announced Thursday that she has taken her final bow with the show and will not return in the fall.

Bandmates are bound to get on each other's nerves. One way to deal with that is to write and sing about it. Keith Richards revealed which song was about his frustrations with The Rolling Stones singer, Mick Jagger at a delicate time in his life.

'All About You' by The Rolling Stones Is About Mick Jagger

"All About You" starts with lyrics about the show going on without someone. "So sick and tired hanging around with jerks like you/Who'll tell me those lies," the first verse ends.

The name calling doesn't end there. "I'm so sick and tired hanging around with dogs like you/You're the first to get blamed, always the last b-tch to get paid," the lyrics later throw out.

There is a more vulnerable part in the writing. The singer admitted to missing someone even though that person doesn't seem to miss them. It ends with revealing that they still love the subject of the harsh words.

"That’s a particularly nasty song," Richards, 82, told Sabotage Times in 2013, according to American Songwriter. "It’s like a litany of insults. And it was written so I could get a few things off my chest."

Many assumed it was about actressAnita Pallenberg, who was in a relationship with Richards from 1967 to 1980. They share three children Marlon Leon Sundeep, Dandelion Angela, and Tara Jo Jo Gunne.

"I’d just come off junk and went back to work with The Stones," the songwriter explained. "In my absence, Mick had been running the show. I was ready to pick up where we left off. But in the meantime, Mick had got used to being in charge. So, when I returned to the fold, I was made to feel like an intruder."

Richards and Jagger, 82, worked through it and their friendship continues to be strong. They're back in 2026 with the release of Foreign Tongues.

Richards revealed more about the rocky part of his relationships in his autobiography, Life. He said his addiction and Pallenberg's was too toxic to continue the relationship.

The guitarist also called Jagger "Brenda" and "His Majesty" in the book. He claimed that the singer focused too much on the business aspect of their work.

"It’s almost as if Mick was aspiring to be Mick Jagger, chasing his own phantom," read the book. "And getting design consultants to help him do it. . . . I used to love to hang with Mick, but I haven’t gone to his dressing room in, I don’t think, twenty years. Sometimes I miss my friend."

The friends grew up in the same neighborhood during primary school, and their mothers knew each other. They went to different schools later, but their love of music led to a stronger friendship reunited them. A friendship that has overcome the pressures of the music industry, addiction, and more.

It's not uncommon for rock stars to draw inspiration from a captivating muse, and David Bowie's "Lady Grinning Soul" is no exception, which was reportedly inspired by a soul singer.

By the early 1970s, Bowie was already making waves and paving his way in the rock genre when he released "Lady Grinning Soul." It was released as part of his album Aladdin Sane and was a last-minute addition. Many have called it the James Bond theme that could have been, with its romantic sound and sexy delivery having made it perfect for the 007 spy. The track had even been considered one of Bowie's underrated gems.

"Mike Garson's piano opens with the most ridiculous and spot-on re-creation of a 19th Century music hall 'exotic' number. I can see now the 'poses plastiques' as if through a smoke-filled bar. Fans, castanets and lots of Spanish black lace and little else. Sexy, mmm? And for you, Madam?" said Bowie in an interview with the Mail on Sunday in 2008.

The track never entered the charts and was released as B-side singles to two other songs, "Rebel Rebel" and "Let's Spend the Night Together." What caught attention about the track is its supposed inspiration. According to reports, "Lady Grinning Soul" was about American soul singer Claudia Lennear after Bowie met her at a party in 1972.

There were never any accurate or proven facts on whether the two had any romantic relationship beyond being acquaintances. Bowie had kept the truth about the track a well-kept secret, but he once admitted the song "was written for a wonderful young girl whom I've not seen for more than 30 years. When I hear this song she's still in her 20s, of course."

According to the Daily Bulletin, Lennear called themselves "unlikely friends" who shared a love for R&B music. She even revealed that “nobody else said ‘Cloodia.’ I never liked my name. When he said it, I liked it." Before Bowie died in 2014, she claimed that Bowie had called her to confirm "Lady Grinning Soul" was about her.

The reports of Lennear being the inspiration don't appear far-fetched, as she had risen through the ranks in the music industry after getting her start as a backup singer. Not to mention that it's famously reported that Mick Jagger wrote the Rolling Stones track "Brown Sugar" about Lennear.

In the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, Jagger confirmed she was the "really hot one of the Ikettes." The two would end up having a brief romance that "was an on-off thing because of our different schedules." Lennear recalls Jagger's on-stage persona having been quite different to the quiet, well-mannered man he was in private.

Whew! That’s a lot. Add on being pregnant, and the whirlwind press tour can’t be easy. Between the hormones and all of the Odyssey excitement, it’s completely understandable that the actress could (and did) break down in tears. So what made Anne sob?

During a recent appearance on TODAY, the hosts gifted Hathaway a basket of baby swag. But it wasn’t just any off-the-shelf item. As a staffer brings the actress the gift, co-anchor Craig Melvinsaid, “And this is not something you can find in stores.” Hathaway immediately tears up as she looks into the basket, sharing, “This is so cute!” 

Melvin explains the idea behind this The Odyssey-themed baby gift: “This is, when the child comes out, we want the child ready for battle. So we created…It is a Trojan outfit, custom-designed for the baby.” And yes, it most certainly is. The teeny tiny diaper cover, cape, and helmet hat look like mini crocheted versions of the real deal.

TODAY revealed who is behind the cute crocheted clothes in an Instagram post of the interview. And no, it’s not a fancy, upscale bespoke boutique that only celebs can afford. The Etsy seller Bit of Whimsy Crochet is the creative genius who hand-stitched the unbelievable Odyssey outfit.

On a side note, Melvin tells Hathaway’s fellow actor, Tom Holland(who is sitting beside her during the interview), “So, Tom, when you have your child…” Holland quickly replies, “I know where to come. I’ll come right back here.” Could this mean that Holland and his wife, Zendaya, have an announcement of their own to make soon?

Decades after touring with legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, the group’s lead singer and lyricist, Robert Plant, is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Americana Music Association.

“Throughout his life, Robert Plant has had an abiding love of roots music, both vintage and modern – of blues, folk, gospel, country and those tantalizing sounds that lie in between,” The Americana Music Association posted on Instagram. “Since first achieving worldwide acclaim as the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, his curiosity has continued to lead him across musical genres, including into the heart of American roots music: he is one of its most passionate advocates and celebrated interpreters.”

Plant will be honored at the 25th Annual Americana Honors & Awards ceremony, taking place on Sept. 16 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The association highlighted his “Americana gems,” including collaborating with Alison Krauss and producer T Bone Burnett on the 2007 album Raising Sand.

When the award was announced, Led Zeppelin fans quickly took to Americana Music’s comment section to share their congratulations with Plant.

“So well deserved,” one fan commented. “Robert is a true artist and musically gifted in so many ways. Love his determination to not stagnate but to always stay stimulated by experimenting and challenging himself musically. Robert also remains one of the greatest singers music has ever produced.”

“Congratulations on receiving this Lifetime Achievement Award,” another said. “Not only have you brought millions along on your musical journey of discovery into roots music, but your recordings of these songs have become defining and essential to me, and treasured.”

“You are truly one of the most amazing rock stars God ever created,” another praised.

Ninety-one years ago today, on July 16, 1935, drivers in downtown Oklahoma City rolled up to something no one on the planet had ever seen at the curb: a parking meter.

One hundred seventy-five of them, actually, planted along 14 blocks of the business district. The price to park was a nickel an hour. The reaction was not gratitude.

A Newspaperman's Fix for Downtown Gridlock

The contraption was the idea of Carl C. Magee, a lawyer and newspaper editor who had landed in Oklahoma City from New Mexico in 1927. Downtown workers were parking at the same curbs all day, leaving shoppers nowhere to stop, and the city's answer up to then had been cops chalking tires. Magee patented his "Park-O-Meter," and a Tulsa company that normally built timing devices for oil wells manufactured the very first units. It was a piece of American ingenuity that would soon spread coast to coast.

'Un-American' and Headed to Court

Not everyone read it as progress. Opponents called charging people to park on public streets un-American, a tax on the simple right to own a car, and money taken without due process. A few drivers took the city to court. That August, a minister named C.H. North earned the first parking ticket ever issued after he stopped, he said, only long enough to run into a store for change. A judge dismissed the case.

The meters stuck anyway. They paid for themselves fast, a nickel and a $20 fine at a time, and by the early 1940s more than 140,000 of them lined American streets, one of those overnight inventions that made history. Park-O-Meter No. 1 stood at First Street and Robinson Avenue. Ninety-one years later the nickel is long gone, but the grumbling at the curb, like plenty of other odd history facts, never really left.

Why Did Linda Kozlowski Quit Acting?

Kozlowski wasn’t finding the fulfillment she desired in the acting world, and ultimately chose to say goodbye to Tinseltown. In 2001, she told the Scripps Howard News Service that the projects she was being offered weren’t giving her what she needed.

“These straight-to-video schlocky films I was getting were giving me an ulcer, basically because I was the only one on the set that cared about anything,” Kozlowski shared. “I’d say, ‘Well, this scene doesn’t make sense.’ [They would say,] ‘Aw, so what, just say the lines.’ [And] I thought, ‘This isn’t fun anymore. This is not why I studied, it’s not what I love.’ Between that and my biological clock, I decided to give it all away.”

According to HELLO!, she now runs a Morocco-based tour company with her husband, called Dream My Destiny.

Julia Garner and her husband, Mark Foster, have separated after more than six years of marriage, PEOPLE reports.

A source close to the couple confirmed the news to the outlet and added that representatives of both Garner and Foster have been contacted but have yet to comment.

The two first met at the Sundance Film Festival and realized in their first conversation that they had numerous similarities. However, they didn't officially begin dating for two years. The actress, best known for appearing in numerous popular shows including Ozark, and the Foster the People lead singer got engaged during a trip to Montana.

“Both of us had a few weeks of quiet before I had to leave for Atlanta to start shooting season three of Ozark, so we rented an RV and took a road trip up to Montana to get away from the city and just be together,” Garner recalled in a 2020 interview with Vogue. “He read me a poem he had written to me, and when he finished, he dropped to a knee and asked me to marry him.” They then continued down to Yellowstone, where they camped under the stars. “It was surreal and beautiful."

They married in December 2019, opting for a New York City Hall wedding with only immediate family in attendance. And afterwards, Foster performed an original song titled “Lovers in a Stream” for their first dance.

“It was a surprise,” Garner explained. “Mark wrote, produced, and sang it. It was very surreal, and the most beautiful present I’ve ever received. It felt like I was floating up in the air — it was the most magical moment I’ve ever had.”

Speculation that the two had split up began on the Fourth of July when Garner was spotted taking a walk without her wedding ring, according to Page Six.
