Young Manatee Rescued Alongside Her Injured Mother Gets a New Home at Disney World

The Seas with Nemo & Friends is a popular attraction for guests at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, but for one rescued manatee, the more than 5 million-gallon aquarium inside the pavilion is now a temporary home while she continues her recovery.

Calfuccino, a young female manatee who was rescued near Naples, Fla., in May 2025 alongside her mother, Venti, arrived at EPCOT last week to receive short-term rehabilitative care. According to information shared with Parade by Walt Disney World, Venti was suffering from an injury at the time of the rescue but had successfully cared for Calfuccino, who was just a calf.

After her rescue, Calfuccino received critical care at ZooTampa, growing from about 156 pounds at the time of her rescue to more than 545 pounds today.

Now, Calfuccino will continue her rehabilitation with Disney’s animal care team over the coming months, with the goal of eventually being released back into Florida waters.

Walt Disney World partners with the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to support the rescue, rehabilitation and release of Florida manatees. At The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Disney provides specialized care for manatees recovering from illnesses, injuries and other challenges, helping prepare them for a return to the wild.

Calfuccino, a young rescued manatee, enjoys some lettuce in her temporary home at EPCOT’s The Seas with Nemo & Friends, where she’s continuing her rehabilitation before an eventual return to the wild.

According to Disney, the company has successfully rehabilitated and released 30 manatees back into the wild.

In the meantime, EPCOT guests can see Calfuccino alongside two other manatees receiving short-term care at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion, Cider and Tanimura.

Through the new collaboration, eligible U.S. American Express cardholders can browse and reserve Airbnb properties on AmexTravel.com or inside the Amex Travel App. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members will earn 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid Airbnb bookings made through the platform, while Consumer Classic Green Card Members continue earning 3X points, and all other enrolled card members earn 2X points. After booking, itineraries appear directly on the Amex Travel dashboard, while on-the-ground communication—messaging the host, adding co-travelers, or coordinating check-in—remains managed through the familiar Airbnb app.

The biggest financial perk lands for Consumer and Business Platinum Card members through an expanded lodging benefit. Amex has rebranded its signature annual hotel credit into the $600 Lodging Credit, providing up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually. Card members can now apply this credit toward prepaid bookings of two nights or more at eligible Airbnb Luxe properties, expanding the benefit beyond traditional Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection bookings.

Taking advantage of an Airbnb Luxe stay also provides a new $250 statement credit for Airbnb Experiences, which cardholders can put toward qualifying guided cultural tours, private boat charters, or host-led culinary outings booked directly through Airbnb for the remainder of that calendar year.

The expansion directly addresses what is holding travelers back from taking their bucket-list trips. Disney+ Is Spotlighting a New Generation of F1 Drivers in a Can't-Miss Documentary Next Month

Coming to Disney+ on Nov. 19, just ahead of the 2026 Las Vegas Grand Prix, The Pursuit: F1 Academy will offer fans exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the 2025 F1 Academy season, with a focus on this group of elite female drivers trying to make their mark in the highly competitive, high intensity sport.

The new documentary special follows F1 Academy drivers like Doriane Pin, Maya Weug, Chloe Chambers and Alisha Palmowski, highlighting their efforts to break into the world of F1—which has, since its beginnings, been a male-dominated sport. The documentary will capture race weekends from across global race locations as well as life away from the track for these women, shedding light upon the perseverance and ambition of the F1 hopefuls.

Along with the racers themselves, other major players in F1 Academy will make appearances, including Managing Director Susie Wolff. Lea Thompson Says Her Shots With Eric Stoltz Are Still in Back to the Future

The bedroom scene where Lorraine McFly first meets her future son has been quoted by Back to the Future fans for four decades, and it famously started with a different actor. Lea Thompson filmed it first opposite Eric Stoltz, and she says her close-ups from the Stoltz shoot made it into the finished film.

Thompson, who played Lorraine across the trilogy, shared the details in an interview with Taboo’s Comics & Kicks. Stoltz was the original Marty McFly, and The Independent reported that scenes he had already filmed were reshot, including numerous interactions with Thompson. Some of her work was kept, she says. “I’d already shot the scene once, and they wanted to use my close-ups … from when I shot it with Eric.”

The same is true of the McFly family dinner. “They did use my closeup on that one from Eric,” Thompson says, adding that her hair looks different from the shots around it. “You can tell it’s a different day.”

The bedroom scene was also her first with Fox. She had worked with Stoltz before, on the 1984 comedy The Wild Life, and says the recasting hit close to home. “Eric was my friend,” Thompson says. “It was really just hard for me that my friend was fired.”

That meant rebuilding her performance. “That day was like a magical weird day where I had to completely recalibrate my performance,” Thompson says. “Michael was giving me such different vibes than Eric was.”

In her telling, Stoltz played the moment “grossed out” and Fox played it “confused,” which she found “much more fun comedically to play with.” “It’s hard to hit on someone that’s grossed out by you,” she says.

Fox wrote about the scene in his memoir Future Boy, released in October 2025, and Thompson says the book covers “how nervous he was.” He began writing jokes, she says, which “was smart,” including the line “Your pants over there on my hope chest.” Fox has said director Robert Zemeckis agreed to the change and that Thompson’s delivery got a big laugh.

Fox arrived sharp, Thompson says. He was shooting Family Ties at the same time, and she describes him as “all tuned up with comedy.” His style was different from what she was used to. “I always felt like it was like Laurel and Hardy,” she says. “I felt like he went way back to vaudeville.”

Fox rehearsed constantly. “He would work on all these little physical bits over and over and over and over and over again,” she says, calling it “different than the way most people worked at that time.” The precision, she adds, “was really fascinating.”

Thompson has called the original film “a perfect screenplay,” and many, many fans agree.

In 1964, Two Creepy Families Took Over TV; Why ‘The Munsters’ and ‘The Addams Family’ Both Disappeared Two Years Later

In 1964, two of television’s strangest families were introduced to viewers, and fans couldn’t get enough. No doubt about it, The Munsters and The Addams Family were popular, but both sitcoms came to an abrupt end two years later, and it had little to do with their creepy characters.

Debuting on September 24, 1964, on CBS, The Munsters starred Fred Gwynne as the lovable Frankenstein-like Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his vampire wife Lily; Al Lewis as Count Dracula Grandpa; and Butch Patrick as werewolf son Eddie. There was also a misfit niece and a fire-breathing pet dragon living in the cobweb-filled Munsters’ house.

In September 1964, The New York Times predicted The Munsters would be popular with viewers.

“There is not the slightest doubt how youngsters and probably a good many of their elders will begin their television viewing on Thursday night; it will be with The Munsters and, more particularly, with Fred Gwynne as the most engaging and amusing Frankenstein monster ever to reach the screen,” the outlet shared at the time. “The filmed series is inspired offbeat nonsense that will disarm everyone who thought an era of horror might be descending on TV.”

Over at ABC, The Addams Family, based on Charles Addams’ Gothic New Yorker cartoon, had premiered days earlier with a black-and-white shot episode that introduced fans to the eccentric Gomez Addams (John Astin); his wife Morticia (Carolyn Jones); and freaky family members Wednesday (Lisa Loring), Pugsley (Ken Weatherwax), Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan), Grandmama (Blossom Rock), and the deep-voiced, towering butler Lurch (Ted Cassidy).

A retrospective posted by Smithsonian magazine noted that The Addams Family TV series was created as “a direct response to the planned CBS sitcom, The Munsters.”

“Both shows shared some of the same spooky DNA (as well as debuting and getting canceled within days of one another), but The Addams Family had something its spiritual doppelganger couldn’t compete with: the original comics themselves,” the outlet shared.

Indeed, both shows were popular. And months before its cancellation, The Munsters was even nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series.

But by the spring of 1966, both The Munsters and The Addams Family were canceled after each airing for two seasons.

In an interview with Fox News, Patrick revealed that Adam West’s colorful Batman series marked the end of the black-and-white shot Munsters.

“I think Batman was to blame,” the actor shared. “Batman just came along and took our ratings away. …Look, we had a good two-year run putting out something that was so different and unlikely to become a success. So we felt it was the right time to go. Fred [Gwynne] and Al [Lewis] were also ready to go home. We were OK with it.”

Patrick also acknowledged that Gwynne didn’t want to be defined as a TV monster and that the role “frustrated” him.

Addams Family star Astin felt that Batman hurt his show as well, even though the new superhero series aired opposite The Munsters.

“Shock,” he told The Television Academy Foundation of his original reaction to the Addams Family cancellation news. “I think it was just a big accident. I know that the president of the network then had a slightly different sense of humor and also, you see, Batman had come on opposite The Munsters and a lot of the programming people thought about Addams and Munsters as the same kind of show.”

Astin felt the shows were “very different” and appealed to different audiences, but the network obviously felt otherwise.

Sixty years later, fans are still nostalgic for both The Munsters and The Addams Family—and there’s even a bit of a crossover coming up. Munsters alum Patrick, now 73, is set to appear at the Chiller Theater fan expo in Parsippany, New Jersey, later this month with an Addams family member.

In an Instagram video, Patrick revealed that Sean Cassidy, the son of The Addams Family’s original Lurch, will appear with him at the fan fest under the name “Son of Lurch,” and both will be in monster makeup for photo ops.

Travel Expert Says This Cruise Is Ideal for Solo Travelers in the Midst of a Life Transition

Life transitions have a funny way of making you feel like you need to do something big. Maybe you’re navigating a breakup, adjusting to an empty nest, starting a new career or simply realizing that the life you’ve built doesn’t look quite like the one you imagined. Whatever the reason, sometimes you need a little space to process it all.

And while booking a tropical getaway or planning an action-packed solo adventure might sound appealing, I found that one of the best places to reconnect with yourself is somewhere a little more unexpected: aboard the Queen Mary 2.

I’ve sailed on more than 100 cruises, from Carnival to Regent Seven Seas, to everything in between, and have experienced plenty of different ways to travel solo. My first transatlantic crossing aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, however, felt different. I took the seven-night voyage from New York to Southampton at the beginning of a career transition, and the timing couldn’t have been better. With seven days at sea and no shore in sight, I finally had the opportunity to slow down, reflect on where I’d been and get excited about where I was going.

It’s not necessarily the first cruise I’d recommend to someone looking for nonstop entertainment or a packed itinerary. But for solo travelers who are in a period of change, it might be just what they need.

Why The Queen Mary 2 Is Ideal For A Solo Reset

There’s something about being surrounded by nothing but open ocean that makes it easier to hear your own thoughts. Without ports to explore or excursions to rush off to, the Queen Mary 2 gives you something that’s surprisingly hard to find in everyday life: uninterrupted time.

Instead of feeling like I needed to fill every moment, I could let my mind wander. I could spend an afternoon reading, take a walk on deck, or simply look out at the water and breathe–something that feels increasingly more difficult to do in today’s world.

The ultimate reset: reclining on the promenade deck, letting the sea breeze clear my head, and having zero schedule to follow.

The ship’s traditional ambiance also contributed to that feeling. You can use the internet to stay in touch with friends and family, or choose to disconnect for a while and enjoy the rare opportunity to be truly present. There’s no right way to do it, of course, but having the choice felt freeing.

The beauty of solo travel: learning that celebrating yourself and romanticizing your own night is the best reason to get dressed up.

And then there are the little ways to treat yourself. A spa visit, time spent on the open-air decks or a quiet drink in one of the ship’s lounges can turn an ordinary afternoon into something restorative. You don’t have to plan a major excursion or spend every day checking something off a list. Sometimes, the luxury is simply having nowhere else you need to be.

The Unexpected Joy Of Being Solo On The Queen Mary 2

Traveling alone doesn’t necessarily mean wanting to be alone all the time. One of the things I enjoyed most about the Queen Mary 2 was that I could choose when to socialize and when to keep to myself.

At mealtimes, for example, you can dine independently or ask to be seated with other travelers. For someone navigating a major life change, that flexibility is especially appealing. You can enjoy your own company without feeling isolated, while still having opportunities to meet people if the mood strikes.

A quiet dinner, a captivating book, and a rainbow over the Atlantic—a gentle reminder that being alone can be profoundly comforting.

One of my favorite experiences happened in the evenings in the Queens Room, the ship’s ballroom, where passengers gather to dance. As a solo traveler, I loved grabbing a drink, sitting back and watching couples glide across the floor.

I’ll admit, there was something bittersweet about it. At 32, watching people dance together brought up a little sadness about how my generation connects to each other and the fact that I’m single, alongside a hopeful feeling that maybe I’d find that kind of connection someday, too. But then something lovely happened: A few passengers, who I would guess were in their 60s and 70s, invited me to dance. They even taught me the steps!

It was such a sweet, unexpected moment. Here I was, a woman in her early 30s navigating a new chapter of her life, dancing with people decades older than her who were happy to welcome a stranger into their evening. There was no pressure, no awkwardness and no expectation that the experience had to become anything more than what it was. It was just a genuinely lovely human connection.

That moment reminded me that being in transition doesn’t mean putting your life on hold until you have everything figured out. There’s still so much joy to be found in the present, often in the places and people you least expect.

I’ve enjoyed solo cruising on other lines, too, but the Queen Mary 2 felt particularly suited to this kind of journey. Its atmosphere, the rhythm of days at sea and the mix of travelers onboard created an environment where I could be introspective without feeling cut off from the world around me. For me, seven days crossing the Atlantic did just that. I came away feeling more reflective, more hopeful and more connected to the possibilities ahead. Her courtroom has merged with our living rooms bringing interesting cases, comedic moments and more but earlier this year Judy called time on her popular program after three decades. However, it seems the star still has some plans despite her on-screen retirement.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Judy shared: “I have a lot of other things of interest. I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”

One way Judy is continuing to convey her message is through the production of her own adult animated series called Judyverse. The show will draw inspiration from AI and internet videos to create something trendy that features a tiny animated “Baby Judge Judy”. Though little else is known about what the show will entail.

The star also added in relation to her “legacy”: “I don’t have to prove anything else. I did it.”

Fans of Judge Judy can look forward to seeing her son Adam Levy take on the baton with his own TV show similar to Judge Judy called Adam’s Law. The show was created and produced by Judy and ill follow Adam presiding over a small-claims court and civil legal disputes.

Gushing about Adam’s potential to do a great job, Judy said: “There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted. He has what it takes.” Judy further noted that she knows “he was ready” for that step in his career.

I’ll give Aldi credit where it’s due—its frosted sugar cookies are a near-exact dupe for the familiar soft, colorful cookies sold by Lofthouse. They’re recognizable, soft and topped with the thick frosting that fans of that style expect.

The problem is simply that they’re too sweet for my taste. Between the soft cookie and generous frosting, I find the overall effect a little overwhelming. I prefer cookies with more contrast, whether that’s a touch of salt, a nutty flavor or a less sugary finish.

Michael Dell’s Boston penthouse, purchased for $10.9 million in 2016, is now heading to a sealed-bid auction with a minimum reserve price of $6.5 million.

The luxury home sits on the 59th floor of Millennium Tower in downtown Boston and is being offered after several attempts to sell it through the traditional real estate market.

The auction is being managed by Paramount Realty USA in partnership with Michael Carucci, a founding partner at Serhant Massachusetts. According to the auction listing, bids must be submitted online by Oct. 29, 2026, at 4 p.m. Buyers must also provide proof that they have the funds to complete the purchase, per The Economic Times.

The reserve price is about 40% below the amount Dell paid for the property nearly a decade ago. However, the final sale price will depend on the offers received and the auction’s terms.

Michael Dell’s Boston Penthouse Faces a Major Price Cut

Dell, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dell Technologies, purchased the Millennium Tower residence in December 2016 through a limited liability company, according to property records cited in reports by real estate news outlets.

The purchase came shortly after Dell Technologies completed its acquisition of EMC Corp., a Massachusetts-based technology company. The deal was valued at about $67 billion and was one of the biggest technology acquisitions at the time.

The Boston penthouse was intended to serve as a place to stay during business trips to the area. However, reports say Dell and his wife, Susan, rarely used the residence.

The couple later tried to sell the property through the regular housing market. According to The Boston Globe, the home was first listed in 2024 for $10.9 million, matching its original purchase price. After it failed to attract a buyer, the asking price was reduced several times.

The penthouse was most recently listed for $7.895 million before it was taken off the traditional market and moved to auction.

The current $6.5 million reserve is about $1.4 million below that last asking price. It also represents a potential discount of roughly $4.4 million from the original purchase price, although the reserve does not guarantee that the property will sell for that amount.

Michael Carucci described the auction as a chance for buyers to make offers on a high-end home in one of Boston’s well-known residential towers.

“Properties of this caliber appeal to a very, very specific audience,” Carucci said, according to The Boston Globe.

The residence is located on the 59th floor of Millennium Tower, a 60-story glass building in Boston’s downtown area. Its design includes tall ceilings, wide-plank oak floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that bring natural light into the living spaces.

The main living and dining areas are connected in an open layout. A gas fireplace set into a black granite wall serves as a central feature of the living room.

The kitchen includes custom wood cabinets, marble countertops, a large island with seating, and high-end appliances from Wolf and Sub-Zero. A butler’s pantry connects the kitchen to the main living area.

The primary bedroom suite sits in a private corner of the home. It includes a walk-in closet, a dressing area, and a marble bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub. The two additional bedrooms have their own bathrooms and walk-in closets.

A private outdoor terrace adds space for residents to enjoy views of the city and nearby waterways. The sale also includes two reserved parking spaces in the building’s underground garage.

Millennium Tower offers residents several shared facilities and services, including a 24-hour concierge, doormen, a fitness center, a private screening room, and a 75-foot indoor swimming pool. The penthouse also carries a reported monthly homeowners association fee of $6,862, which buyers will need to consider alongside the purchase price and other ownership costs.

The penthouse auction comes as Boston’s high-end condominium market faces pressure from a growing supply of luxury units and slower sales. Some developers have reduced prices as they work to attract buyers to expensive homes in full-service residential towers.

The market has also seen a shift in the types of buyers interested in city properties. According to Carucci, domestic buyers looking to downsize and live in the city are becoming more important as international investors play a smaller role than they once did.

The $6.5 million reserve gives the Millennium Tower property a lower starting point than its earlier asking prices. Still, the reserve price alone does not establish the home’s final market value.

Misha Haghani, founder and CEO of Paramount Realty USA, said the auction format allows the market to help determine the final price.

“There is a possibility for a buyer to get a good deal,” Haghani told the Houston Chronicle. “What do you mean by a good deal? That’s subjective. Everything has a market value.”

The auction is also part of a broader change in the Dells’ Boston property holdings. In 2020, Michael and Susan Dell purchased a duplex penthouse at Four Seasons Private Residences at One Dalton Street for $34 million. That property was later listed for sale, with its asking price reduced before it was removed from the market.

Evangeline Lilly has candidly opened up about her exit from Hollywood and why she walked away from acting despite her accumulation of fame. The stunning star chatted all about it earlier this week with the Christian Broadcasting Network, noting how much someone “pays” to be in the celebrity sphere.

The star boldly began: “I’d much prefer a quieter position. I’ve always hated being famous. I never made any secrets about that. I’ve always said being famous is the cost of the wealth that you can get as an actor. Like that’s what you pay for — the wealth.”

Though calling time on her Hollywood days was far from an easy decision to make. Evangeline further discussed the mental tug of war she faced over choosing to leave her acting career when she knew it was something that she was clearly good at.

She continued: “When you’re successful at something, it feels really good when the world says, ‘We love you! You’re amazing!’ Like, this is a wonderful feeling. How do you walk away from that? And I’ve had moments of … gripping fear of like, ‘What am I doing?’ But, ultimately, the decision was one that was made in great conviction.”

Evangeline’s decision to leave Hollywood was far from a surprise. Even decades ago all the way back in 2006, Lilly expressed a desire to leave acting. In a video from back then, Evangeline shared: “I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world but ideally, 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress, and I would like to have a family.”

However the star’s official retirement announcement wasn’t made until 2024, where she cited one of the reasons for calling time on her career now as desiring to have a family. She didn’t rule out ever returning to acting though!

George Michael was riding a bus to his part-time job when a saxophone melody came to him. He was 17. Michael later said he “was only 17 and didn’t really know much about anything,” least of all relationships. With bandmate Andrew Ridgeley, who wrote the chord sequence on a guitar he got for his 18th birthday, he turned the idea into “Careless Whisper.”

Accounts say he was heading to his job as a cinema usher, and the first verse nods to the movies. The song was among the tracks on the demo tape that first got Wham! signed to a record label. After the duo scored a transatlantic hit with “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” Michael re-recorded it himself and produced it.

It reached the public in the summer of 1984 as a George Michael single in the U.K. Epic Records held it back in the U.S. until early 1985, and billed it as “Wham! featuring George Michael.” It hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Feb. 16, 1985, and stayed there for three weeks. It also topped Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay chart, which ranks the most frequently played songs on U.S. radio.

By the end of the year, it had beaten a stacked field. Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 ranked “Careless Whisper” as the No. 1 song of 1985, ahead of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” at No. 2 and Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” at No. 4. Bruce Springsteen’s highest-ranking song of the year, “Glory Days,” finished at No. 67. Wham! landed four songs on the year-end list, including “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” at No. 3.

The song kept growing worldwide, topping charts in country after country and selling at least six million copies. Michael died in 2016, but the melody he wrote on a bus as a teenager is still one of the most recognizable saxophone lines in pop.

We Asked 3 Child Psychologists for the Best Question To Ask Kids After School (And the Worst Question To Ask)

When picking kids up from school, it can be tempting to ask the classic question: “How was your day?” And while there’s nothing necessarily wrong with asking that question, if you’re hoping to learn more about your child’s day and maybe even connect more with them, it’s a question you might want to avoid, as it’s not the one for the job.

And we get it! “How was your day?” is a classic, go-to query we got from our parents growing up when we got home from school. But if you remember, you probably have rolled your eyes or just answered with a quick, “Fine.” Nothing more, unless prompted. And even if your kids are very forthcoming and talkative, that question just doesn’t cultivate a bonding moment after a long day.

So what question is the best to ask kids after school? To find out, we spoke with three child psychologists: Dr. Hannah Jones, a licensed clinical psychologist with Prosper Health, whose specialties include child and adolescent development; Dr. Rebecca Weksner, PsyD, PMH-C, NCSP, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in parenting and pediatrics; and Dr. Jeffrey Gardere, PhD, ABPP, a clinical psychologist, professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and the author of Smart Parenting For African-Americans: Helping Your Kids Thrive in a Difficult World.

3 Child Psychologists Agree: This Is the Best Question To Ask Kids After School

When you see your kids after school, Dr. Jones, Dr. Weksner and Dr. Gardere all suggest asking them “What’s one thing you liked about today?” Here’s why.

“This question works for a few reasons—it is specific and concrete, so it breaks down the task of summarizing an entire day into one specific recollection,” explains Dr. Jones.

Dr. Weksner adds that it’s a great guiding—not leading—question to help your child recall the day in a meaningful way.

“Asking your child to name one thing they enjoyed, or found fun about their day can be a helpful way to frame the conversation around a central theme,” she shares. “This question is still relatively light, while opening up space to learn more about the people, subjects, sensory experiences, worries and whatever else that might be influencing your child.”

Dr. Gardere agrees.

“I love this question because it doesn’t ask your child to give you a report, or be forced to tell you the events of the day, some of which may not be memorable or even fun,” he says.

The question just does such a great job of helping your child share their day with you while not putting pressure on them to do so.

“It invites them to share whatever is on their mind, with little to no pressure,” Dr. Gardere further explains. “As well, after a long school day, they may not have the energy to get into a full soliloquy, so talking about one thing they liked will give them the focus to fully discuss it, especially because this is something they enjoyed. The request is also specific and manageable. It’s an opening and not an inquisition.”

This question can help your child reflect on their day

This question can also give you “insight into your child’s emotional experiences and the circumstances surrounding them,” per Dr. Jones.

“Many kids struggle with the capacity to succinctly synthesize an entire day’s worth of experiences to highlight their most memorable moments,” adds Dr. Weksner.

So, by using the specific question—“What’s one thing you liked about today?”—you can help your kid “reflect on their day with greater clarity and [it] offers a means to [help] them organize their experiences,” she continues.

It can open up a larger conversation

Dr. Jones notes that after asking “What’s one thing you liked about today?” it might feel “almost natural” to follow it up with “What’s one thing you didn’t like about today?”

“This can create opportunity for deeper conversation, offering support and validation, or even advice if your child needs it,” she says.

“Additionally, this question can model reciprocal engagement—when you ask your child to tell you what they experienced and how it impacted them, they might feel inclined to ask you something similar, or you might choose to share on your own,” she adds. “This fosters the connection and mutual engagement you might have hoped for in the first place.”

4 Other Psychologist-Approved Questions To Ask Children After School

1. “What made you laugh today?”

“This is a lighthearted, playful question that might feel refreshing for a child after a long day filled with many interactions and lots of cognitive effort,” says Dr. Jones. “Again, it invites reconnection and communicates interest rather than evaluation.”

Dr. Weksner suggests asking a similar “What was the funniest moment of today?” explaining that it’s a great opportunity for kids to reflect, while Dr. Gardere suggests the related “What made you laugh or smile today?”

“I really like this question as it is asking about a feeling, an emotion—not just about giving information,” Dr. Gardere explains. “And once they start telling you who made them laugh and what happened, suddenly you’re getting a window into their friendships, relationships and social world. It also helps them identify for themselves what makes them happy, smile and laugh.”

2. “What’s something you’re looking forward to tomorrow?”

Asking kids what they’re looking forward to at school tomorrow is “a great way to get your kids to set goals, become future oriented and develop hope,” Dr. Gardere says.

“It’s also a wonderful way to learn what excites and motivates your child,” he adds. “If they say they are not looking forward to anything, this is a great opportunity to create some future goals and adventures together.”

3. “What do you need most right now?”

“This question is geared toward first understanding whether your child would like to engage in conversation—or if they need a snack, a bathroom break, a nap or a good cry before they can talk it out,” says Dr. Jones.

“For younger kids or children who benefit from more structure, you can even offer options,” she suggests, such as rest, a snack, company or quiet time.

From there, you can “build connection by allowing them to voice their need and responding to it without judgment,” she explains. “Often, children simply need to feel regulated—then they can verbalize and begin to process their experiences.”

4. “I’m so happy to see you!”

According to Dr. Weksner, sometimes, “the best question to ask your child at the end of the school day isn’t a question at all.”

“Regardless of your child’s age, one of the most effective means of connecting with your child after school is to express how happy you are to see them and then giving the child some time and space to adjust to the next part of their day,” she explains.

For this reason, she suggests greeting little ones with phrases that “set the tone that you are filled with joy to see them and there is no expectation of conversation at that particular moment.”

These phrases include “I’m so happy to see you!” and “There’s my rock star!” or, instead, you could just offer a high-five or hug. All of these, she says, “can communicate the love and affection you are feeling without any pressure on the child to translate the last six or seven hours into a couple of sentences.”

If you do want to ask questions, Dr. Weksner notes the importance of giving kids “a bit of time to transition out of school mode and into home mode.”

“This can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and it is often best if you let them guide the amount of conversation,” she adds. “Once they have adjusted to home mode, you can be curious with them about their day.”

Why ‘How Was Your Day?’ Is the Worst Question To Ask After School

According to Dr. Weksner, the problem with asking “How was your day?” is that it’s often “met with monosyllabic answers or mumbles about how nothing much happened.”

That’s because “open-ended questions can be tricky for kids to answer,” she explains. “For some kids, their brain is too tapped out from all the mental exertion of the day to synthesize a complete answer. They are exhausted from all the mental effort they put forth to learn and get overwhelmed having to reflect and think over their day.”

Dr. Gardere adds that this question “tends to get us exactly the kind of answer we don’t want, one-word answers” such as “Fine,” “Good” or “Okay.”

“The question is simply too big and too vague,” he says.

Dr. Jones adds that asking “How was your day?” or “How was school?” doesn’t work because it “is so broad in scope that it can lead to a dead end in conversation before the conversation has even begun, especially if your child is too tired, hungry or overstimulated.”

Additionally, the vagueness of this question can also lead some kids to “feel pressured rather than invited to come up with a response, and instead shut down,” per Dr. Jones.

“Kids may worry there is a ‘right’ answer and since they aren’t sure what that is they freeze up altogether,” adds Dr. Weksner. “Your attempt at reconnecting with your child after a long day apart can be a frustrating and disappointing experience as a result.”

Don’t ask “How was your day?” after school. Though it may be a natural impulse, the broad scope and vagueness of the question won’t lead to most kids opening up.

Buckingham Palace is getting ready to show off a stunning display of royal history.

Come summer 2027, the Royal Collection Trust is putting together a major exhibition featuring some of the monarchy’s most famous tiaras, personal treasures, and historic heirlooms. For royal followers, it’s a rare chance to step inside and see these remarkable pieces up close.

Royal Jewelry: From Coronations to Keepsakes will feature 500 years of British royal jewellery, with more than 300 pieces on display. These heirloom jewels hail from as far back as the 16th century through to today.

These stunning diamond-encrusted pieces were worn by royal figures from Henry VIII to Queen Elizabeth II. They will be featured at the King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace.

According to the exhibit’s official website, “Highlights of the exhibition include the Diamond Diadem made for George IV, Queen Victoria‘s Small Diamond Crown, and Queen Charlotte’s garnet jewels.”

Town & Country Magazine shared a quote from the exhibit’s co-curators Caroline de Guitaut and Kathryn Jones.

“This unprecedented exhibition will bring together some of the most important and spectacular royal jewels in British history, many never exhibited publicly before. Each jewel carries with it a human story: of love and loss, power and politics, family and faith,” it began.

The statement concluded, “Together, they have borne witness to the defining moments of royal lives and offer a deeply personal insight into the individuals and relationships that have shaped the monarchy across generations.”

One of the more familiar pieces to current royal watchers is the Diamond Diadem, worn in 2026 by Camilla Parker Bowles to the State Opening of Parliament. Crafted in 1820, the crown features 1,333 diamonds, anchored by a stunning four-carat pale yellow solitaire right at the front cross.

According to Town & Country, one standout piece also heading to the display is a Fabergé aquamarine and diamond pendant originally gifted to Queen Elizabeth II by Queen Mary. The late monarch later famously repurposed the heirloom, wearing it as a brooch during a 2015 trip to Malta.

Tucked into the wall is the suite’s most whimsical feature: a mysterious secret door that reveals brand-new surprises, treats, and gifts delivered every single day of the voyage.
