This Common Lifestyle Issue Can Speed up Aging More Than You Think, Doctors Warn
Now more than ever, there’s a global interest in longevity. Sure, people have been searching for the fountain of youth since the beginning of time, but the collective interest in longevity from doctors, pharmaceutical companies, tech tycoons with no shortage of money to invest and even the U.S. government has led to a near obsession with how to live longer.
Perhaps you’re familiar with some of the newest longevity hacks people are trying (that may or may not actually work), such as supplement stacking, peptide injections and cold plunges. It’s all part of the quest to slow the aging process.
There are so many novel habits people are trying in the name of longevity that it’s easy to forget the basics, which have more robust scientific research than the habits health influencers are sharing on social media. For example, a wealth of research has shown that eating a primarily plant-based diet, such as the Mediterranean diet, is linked to living longer. Walking is another simple habit that’s linked to slowing the aging process. Ground-breaking? Not really. Powerful? Absolutely.
There’s one common lifestyle habit in particular that you may not realize is quietly speeding up the aging process without you even realizing it. Making a change can literally add years to your life.

The Common Habit That Speeds up Aging, Doctors Warnwhitebalance.space/Getty Images
According to a Wellness, Sleep, & Circadian Network report, one in three people in the U.S. do not get the recommended seven hours of sleep a night. While the occasional night of poor sleep isn’t a big deal, chronically not getting enough sleep can accelerate the aging process.
Dr. Sara Vaughn, MD, an endocrinologist and the chief medical officer of Clair Health, explains that one reason for this is that chronically not getting enough sleep causes damage at a cellular level. “Chronically not getting enough sleep impairs the body’s ability to repair and replace damaged tissue. Sleep is an important time for cellular repair,” she says.
Related: We Asked 3 Doctors What Habit Matters Most for Longevity—and They All Said the Same Thing
Of course, there are times when getting enough sleep is simply out of your control—as with new parents, for example, or someone who struggles with chronic insomnia. That said, Dr. Vaughn explains that when sleep is repeatedly disrupted, oxidative stress and inflammation increase, leading to cellular damage. “Over time, the need for repair and replacement can outpace the body’s regenerative capacity. This imbalance—more damage and less effective repair—is thought to contribute to biological aging. You can think of aging partly as damage accumulating faster than the body can repair it,” she tells Parade.
As a scientific study published in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity shows, chronically not getting enough sleep literally damages DNA. That’s how deep the damage goes.
Dr. Tommy Wood, BM, BCh, PhD, a neuroscientist and author of The Stimulated Mind: Future-Proof Your Brain from Dementia and Stay Sharp At Any Age, says that sleep deprivation also increases the stress hormone cortisol, which can impair the function of stem cells. “If it remains elevated for long periods of time, cortisol can impair the function of the immune system, which would otherwise be doing jobs like identifying senescent [aging] cells to be cleared so that they don’t accumulate and cause further issues,” he explains.
Dr. Wood says that this increase in cortisol causes inflammation, which speeds up aging. “Sleep deprivation can increase activity of the sympathetic ‘fight or flight’ nervous system, which activates the immune system to release inflammatory mediators, called cytokines,” he adds.

He shares that it also seems to activate a core regulator of inflammation signaling in the body, which increases production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, explaining, “In some tissues, especially the brain, sleep normally helps to clear out pro-inflammatory cytokines that accumulate during the day. Without good sleep, inflammation then increases."
Why Not Getting Enough Sleep Makes You Look Older Than You Really AreThe impact of not getting enough sleep isn’t just internal; it’s external too and can literally change appearance. “Poor sleep affects appearance both immediately and over time,” Dr. Vaughn says. She highlights a study of 24 women showing that just two nights of sleep restriction reduced skin hydration, increased water loss from the skin, decreased skin elasticity and viscosity and increased oxidative damage in the skin.
Dr. Wood points to a recent study published in Nature showing that skin aging was increased among people who slept less than 6.5 hours a night. He explains that skin cells are constantly replenished by deeper stem cells that constantly divide, with new cells then migrating up and replacing skin cells as they slough off. He explains that these stem cells can be negatively affected by sleep loss because of increased cortisol, oxidative stress and inflammation, among other factors.

“These same factors can also damage or impair the production of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that give skin its youthful bounce and integrity, maintaining structural integrity that also helps the skin stay hydrated,” he says.
As you can see, consistently getting enough sleep is crucial for living a long, healthy life. It’s never too late to improve it either. “One study found that people who improved their sleep in their 50s, 60s, or 70s had lower levels of proteins in their brain linked to dementia,” Dr. Wood tells Parade.
With this in mind, instead of obsessing over every longevity hack you come across, focus on the basics, starting with getting to the root cause of anything that’s regularly disrupting your sleep. Aging backwards overnight? It really can be that simple.

Pop Star’s 'Wicked' Audition Didn’t Go as Expected: 'A Strange One'
Joe Jonas is opening up about one of the more "strange" auditions of his career, for the movie musical Wicked.
In a new Instagram clip from the Jonas Brothers podcast Hey Jonas, Joe opened up about some of the oddest auditions of his career thus far to brothers Nick and Kevin. He didn’t hold back, revisiting a few standout experiences that still feel a little surreal to him today.
"I was auditioning for...," Joe began. Nick interjected, "Wicked? Spider-Man?" Joe responded, "We don't need to name all the things I didn't get."
"Those are two of them," Kevin added.

View this post on Instagram"What's the one about the news anchors?" Joe asked. Nick responded, "The Morning Show."
"Long story short. I show up early. They did this thing, which was very kind. They were like, 'Oh, we have a private room for you.' This is the saddest room you can imagine. I could hear, clear as day, all the guys auditioning, and these guys were crushing it. And I go in, and I just crash and burn," Joe explained.
Nick consoled his older brother, saying, "Bad auditions happen." He then asked Joe, "Would you say that's your worst audition?"
Joe responded, "I think Wicked was also a bit of a strange one because there were incredible theatre vocalists I could hear clear as day." He did not further elaborate in the social media clip about the audition or the role he was trying to win.
However, in the comments section of the social media post, fans believed that Joe may have been wronged. While Joe didn't mention what character he read for, many fans believed it was Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey in both Wicked and Wicked 2: For Good.
Broadway vet Katherine Foster shared her point of view about Joe's Wicked audition.
She wrote, "Sometimes roles aren’t about who’s the most powerful vocalist or hits the highest notes; it’s about who has the best charisma or can make a whole room laugh or tear up with your vocal ability. Oftentimes, people confuse vocal power with talent, and they couldn’t be more different. But also, what’s meant for you will be regardless of who has the strongest voice. I would have cast you in Wicked, Joe!"
One fan noted, "Need to hear his take on Fiyero tho ASAP." A second fan wrote, "Too bad you didn’t get it. You would have made a great Boq."
"Wait, Joe Jonas auditioned for Wicked and didn't get any part?! Blasphemy!" exclaimed a third podcast listener.
A fourth fan penned, "Pls Joe in wicked I’m experiencing serious grief right now."

A Comedy Institution Just Revealed the Hilarious Front-Row Squeeze War Involving a Very Relaxed Gen-Z Heartthrob
Tina Fey knows how to hold her ground. But even an Emmy-winning comedy institution has to adjust when the internet’s favorite jawline decides to take up the entire room.
The battleground wasn't a crowded New York City subway car, it was the front row.
Fey dropped the details during an appearance on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce. The setting was courtside at a Knicks game; the problem was Timothee Chalamet’s textbook case of relaxed male posture.
Fey told the brothers there was no beef, calling Chalamet "lovely." As for the viral photo, “For every amount he’s sitting like this, manspreading, I’m doing the opposite: I have a big ole can. As Amy Poehler would say, ‘God is fair.’ Timothée’s legs got the front, my big ole can got the back.”
The internet immediately chose a side.
Reddit had an opinion within minutes of the audio dropping. Some users wanted blood, or at least better manners from the young elite. "She’s being nice about it. Boo man spreaders boo!" one commenter wrote, echoing a feeling familiar to anyone who has ever sat next to a manspreader on a plane or a city bus.
View this post on InstagramBut the real gold came from the readers who related to the choreography of the whole ordeal. One user broke down the practicalities of navigating a world as a differently-bootied person with precision. “As someone who is caked up to an almost comical degree (especially in comparison to my height at 4’8), every seat and outfit is approached with a custom “equal distribution of cheekage” plan”
Fey assured listeners that there is no actual beef between her and the Dune star. The commentary is classic Fey, with the kind of self-deprecation that defined 30 Rock and her years at Saturday Night Live. Instead of turning a trending meme into an industry feud, she framed the physical imbalance as a joke at her own expense, using her longtime comedic partner Poehler to anchor the punchline.
The moment highlights the cultural divide between the entertainment industry's different type of fame. Fey, who came up through the high-pressure, shared spaces of live sketch comedy, relies heavily on acute spatial awareness. Chalamet represents a younger era of movie stardom that moves through public events unbothered.
Chalamet has not issued a public comment regarding the New Heights breakdown or his courtside posture. Still, the episode serves as a viral warning to anyone sharing a bench with an SNL alumnus.
Because when the seats get tight, the internet starts keeping score.

Will Christopher Meloni Return to SVU? Showrunner Speaks Out Following His Show’s Cancellation
In 1999, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit premiered with Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni starring as detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. And from there, the hit show took off, building a large fan base.
However, Meloni's tenure on the show ended in 2011 when he left the series. He then reprised his role in 2021 for the spinoff series Law & Order: Organized Crime, which was recently cancelled after five seasons.
So with that, it brought into question whether Meloni's character would make his return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, reuniting with Hargitay.
Showrunner Michele Fazekas was asked about the possibility, admitting that she "would use him as much as he wants to. I tried to!"
"[Meloni's] very, very busy. I tried to bring him into this. I'll just sometimes ask the question like, 'Hey, is he working?'" Fazekas told PEOPLE. "It's like, 'Oh yes, of course he's working.'"
One of the storylines of the hit show that was never truly finished was the chemistry between Benson and Stabler. During his time on the show, his character was married. But his return to the show in 2021, which kicked off the spinoff series, began with his wife passing away. So, does Fazekas have plans to further address this?
"I think that's a relationship that I really care about. I know the fans really care about [it]," Fazekas explained. "So as much as I can, I would like to just acknowledge that and service that as much as he's available... which he's often not."
Meloni is set to star in a new Hulu series, The Land, joining Mandy Moore and William H. Macy. Meloni portrays Cleveland Browns head coach Danny Roarke in the six-episode sports drama series. Blue Bloodsalumna Bridget Moynahan also joined, playing Belinda, the ex-wife of the head coach. Filming for the series began in October 2025.
Nicolas Cage Didn’t Want to Be the 'Clown Cousin' of Hollywood Royalty, Legally Changes Name
For decades, Hollywood knew him as Nicolas Cage, but technically it wasn’t legal. Now, it’s officially on paper.
During a new interview with Variety shared Wednesday, May 27, Cage revealed that he legally changed his name last year, fully embracing the identity that has defined his career for more than 40 years.
Born Nicolas Kim Coppola, the Oscar winner explained that distancing himself from one of Hollywood’s most famous families was intentional from the very beginning. “I am Nick Cage. I changed my name legally last year,” he told the outlet. “I'm Nick Cage in life, and I'm Nick Cage on camera.”
The 62-year-old also reflected on why he decided to move away from the Coppola name entirely, despite being the nephew of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and cousin to director Sofia Coppola and actor Jason Schwartzman: “‘Tis better to be the patriarch of my own little family than the clown cousin on the margins of someone else's.”
The actor has long said his stage surname was inspired by Marvel Comics character Luke Cage, while also nodding to avant-garde composer John Cage. He added that he wanted something “short and sweet” in the spirit of classic Hollywood stars like James Dean.
While Cage has been credited professionally under the name Nicolas Cage for nearly his entire career, the legal change now makes things official off-camera as well.
The name change news arrived the same day as Spider-Noir, Cage’s MGM+ and Prime Video series inspired by the Marvel character Spider-Man Noir, was released. During Parade’s exclusive interview with the actor, Cage reflected on which performances fans most often bring up when discussing his massive filmography.
“I mean, the ones that I hear most are like Face Off and Raising Arizona, maybe Leaving Las Vegas,” he said. “Sometimes I do hear Adaptation, but for me, I hope they would say Pig or Mandy or some of the newer stuff I’ve been working on.”
All great choices, if we do say so ourselves.

Grammy Winner Behind a Heartbreaking ’80s Classic Turns 82 Today
Billy Vera, the singer-songwriter behind one of the most emotional songs of the 1980s, is turning 82 today.
Born May 28, 1944, Vera spent decades building a career as a performer, songwriter, producer, actor and music historian before his signature hit, “At This Moment,” finally turned him into a household name in 1987.
Long before that breakthrough, Vera was already deeply connected to the music industry. During the 1960s, he wrote songs for artists including Barbara Lewis, Fats Domino, The Shirelles and Ricky Nelson.
He also found success as a recording artist alongside gospel singer Judy Clay with “Storybook Children,” which is widely considered one of the first interracial love songs to chart in the United States.
But Vera’s biggest moment arrived years later with “At This Moment.”
The song was originally released in 1981 by Billy Vera & The Beaters and barely cracked the charts, peaking at No. 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. Everything changed after the song was featured during an emotional breakup storyline on Family Ties involving Alex P. Keaton, played by Michael J. Fox, and Ellen Reed, played by Fox's future wife, Tracy Pollan.
The episode that featured the song was the season 5 episode called "Starting Over" and it aired on October 2, 1986.
Viewers flooded NBC and radio stations asking about the song, leading Rhino Records to re-release it. In January 1987, “At This Moment” climbed all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.
In a 2010 interview, Vera explained that the song was inspired by heartbreak after a relationship ended.
“I put the song away and, a year later when she dumped me, I knew how the song would end," Vera recalled.
Vera later said he realized something extraordinary was happening after the famous Family Ties episode aired.
“NBC told Rhino they’d never had as many calls on a song in the history of the network," said Vera.
The success of “At This Moment” opened even more doors for Vera. He appeared in films and TV shows including The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, Blind Date and Beverly Hills, 90210, while also performing theme songs for shows including Empty Nest and The King of Queens.
Over the years, Vera also became highly respected as a music historian and archival producer. In 2013, he won a Grammy Award for Best Album Notes for Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles, a box set celebrating Ray Charles.
Today, “At This Moment” is remembered as one of the most iconic breakup ballads of the 1980s.

Get Your First Look at the Cover for ‘A Deal in Death’ by Jaclyn Rodriguez (Exclusive)
When it comes to sequels, you’re not ready for A Deal in Death by Jaclyn Rodriguez. The sequel to A Vow in Vengeance, we have your first look at the beautiful cover for the novel. It’s the perfect companion to the first cover.
A Deal in Death follows Rune Ryker as she deals with the events of the past semester at Forge. She needs to continue her training in tarot magic, and the goal is still to take over the Immortal Realms with Draven. The only thing Rune is certain of is her relationship with Draven, but what happens when all that changes?
Suddenly, there’s a prophecy from the God of Death. Everything with Draven may end in a bloody and heartbreaking way, and she will need to do everything she can to bring peace and safety. Is that worth all the other costs?
The exciting addition to A Deal in Death is that we’ll get some of Draven’s POV. When speaking with Rodriguez as we discussed the cover reveal, she shared that “it was really fun to get in his head and explore what he’s thinking and just hear his voice.”
Her editor believes that it’s some of her best writing yet, and she hopes others feel the same way, as “it provides such an important context for his backstory, for his relationship with other characters that we don’t necessarily get to see when we’re in Rune’s point of view.”
But let’s get into the cover for A Deal in Death, which is a purple/pink color that will complement the blue of A Vow in Vengenance. You’ll notice that there are a few key details within the cover, especially when it comes to the Arcana, and these are clues to events that will happen in the novel.
“We have some things that are really important in A Vow in Vengeance with the minor Arcana in the backdrop of the logo,” Rodriguez explained, “For A Deal in Death, we needed to focus on some specific things that will be very important for the book, so we changed some of the symbols.”
So, without delaying it anymore, here’s your first look at A Deal in Death:
Courtesy of Zando ImprintThis isn't just about the front cover, either. The new novel will come with sprayed edges, which you can see below. The sprayed edges have a lightness to them that complements the front image in style. Will you have the front cover on show or the sprayed edges? It's always a hard choice to make, but I love there's so much work that goes into making books, especially fantasy books, look so pretty.
Courtesy of Zando ImprintYes, there is a release date for the second — and last — book in the Immortal Desires series. You’ll want to get February 2, 2027 in your diary.
This is a duology, so you’ll get the conclusion of Rune and Draven’s tale in A Deal in Death. There was a point that this could have had more to tell, but eventually, the decision was to keep it short.
“When I sold the first book, I was already about halfway through the second,” Rodriguez shared the details of shortening the story. “I was just writing it out and making sure it was working, so I realized they could get this full mission done within this book. You don’t necessarily need a single book per year of school.”
This doesn’t mean that she won’t ever revisit the world. She’s also not saying there’s anything wrong with writing a single book for each year of school, but sometimes, it’s great to keep the focus and wrap up the tale.
A Deal in Death’s cover is absolutely gorgeous, and you’ll definitely want to add it to your shelves in 2027.
Who Is Will Forte’s Wife? All About Olivia Modling and Their Surprise Wedding
Will Forte and his wife, Olivia Modling, met in 2018 and found themselves on the fast-track to parenthood and marriage (in that order).
For Forte, their connection was simple: “I needed to find somebody who was a very patient person and she's the most patient, understanding woman in the world,” he once said. “I'm feeling very happy and very lucky these days."
Keep reading to learn more about his relationship with Modling, including how many kids they have — and how old he was when he became a father.
Is Will Forte married?Yes. He and Olivia Modling tied the knot on July 31, 2021 in a surprise ceremony that took place in the backyard of MacGruber co-creator Jorma Taccone's house in New Mexico.
The couple got engaged during the 2019 holiday season but had to put their wedding plans on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, then welcomed their first child, daughter Zoe, in February 2021. By that summer, they decided to slap together a wedding in a matter of weeks.
"We realized, 'Oh, all the people that we would want to be here are going to be here [in Albuquerque],'" Forte shared with People. "...So we just decided very last minute, 'Let's just have this wedding, surprise my parents.' They didn't even know until they pulled into the parking lot. And we just had this really fun, delightful wedding.”
What does Will Forte’s wife do for a living? There’s not much reliable information out there about Modling’s career. According to a handful of reports, she works in distribution and brand partnerships, and once held a role at SGE (Synergy Global Entertainment) Worldwide, a concert promotion group that filed for bankruptcy in 2019.

Forte’s The Last Man On Earth costar Mary Steenburgen celebrated their love story with a photo of the pair on Instagram alongside the caption, “When one of your beloveds finds his soulmate.”
Ever the jokester, Forte commented, “I finally found my Ted Danson." He was, of course, referring to Steenburgen’s husband.
View this post on Instagram When did Will Forte get married?Forte and Modling exchanged vows on July 31, 2021. "It's fun to say, 'Wife,'" Forte told People after the nuptials. "I've never worn any jewelry in my life and it's fun to wear a wedding ring. It already felt like we were married before. It doesn't feel a lot different, but it's still fun and exciting to say, 'Wife.'”
The pair got engaged in late 2019, but their plans to marry didn't become public knowledge until Forte's father, Reb Forte, let it slip on national TV, on ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in April 2020.
“My full name is Orville Willis Forte III," he said, before referring to his son. "He’s Orville Willis Forte IV. He’s currently engaged, and says if he has a boy, they’ve both agreed, it’s a possibility it would be Orville Willis Forte V. Not a decision, but a possibility.”

Do Will Forte and his wife have children?Yes. The couple shares two daughters: Zoe, born Feb. 15, 2021, and Cecilia, whose birthday they’ve kept private (the sisters are about 18 months apart).
“I’m a 50-year-old father,” Forte said shortly after the birth of his first child, on an episode of Conan. “Which is pretty old for a father. So my fiancée, Olivia, had this made for me.” He then held up a sweatshirt that read: “Dad or Grandpa?”
How old was Will Forte when he had his first kid?The funnyman was 50 when he and Modling welcomed their first child.
"I thought I would've been a dad when I was 25 or 26. I've always been very excited about it," Forte told People after her birth. "Then you start living your life and you realize that it's all out of your control. At a certain point, I almost gave up on it. I just thought, 'Oh, well, maybe it's not in the cards for me.'"
"And thank God all the stars aligned and I met this wonderful woman, Olivia," he continued. "And now we have this little Zoe who's the best."
When did Will Forte date January Jones? The Last Man on Earth co-stars dated for about five months in 2015. They kept the details of their relationship private, but tabloid reports suggest their split was amicable. The pair went on to film three more seasons of their FOX series.
When costar Mary Steenburgen posted a photo of Forte and his then-fiancée to Instagram, Jones commented, “Aww!”
Aww, indeed!

Susan Boyle's Drastic Makeover Leaves Katy Perry Speechless and Social Media Torn: 'I Dreamt This Dream'
Susan Boyle just pulled a classic pop-star stunt, and nobody saw it coming.
The Britain’s Got Talent alum completely emptied her Instagram account. Every single photo. Gone. In their place sits a single, glam gallery that looks more like a high-fashion editorial than a standard post. She paired the look with a brief promise: "A new era starts tomorrow."
In 2009, Boyle walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage as a 47-year-old church volunteer from a small Scottish village and face a cynical crowd. Then she opened her mouth. Her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream"shattered the internet, racking up hundreds of millions of views and launching a career that has since clocked over 25 million album sales worldwide. She smashed music records held by the Beatles, logged two Grammy nominations, and secured three Guinness World Records.
Yet, despite the massive fame and immense wealth, she famously refused the typical Hollywood glitz, choosing to stay in her childhood home and live a quiet life away from the paparazzi. That grounded lifestyle is why this move into the high-fashion aesthetic is sending shockwaves through pop culture.
It is a page straight out of the modern pop playbook. Delete the past, signal the future, and let the internet spiral into a frenzy of speculation.
And the internet is here for it.
The 2,000+ comments under the lone post turned into a VIP lounge of shock and awe. High-profile names rushed the feed to process the shift. Katy Perry led the charge with a nod to Boyle's historic audition track.
View this post on Instagram“i dreamt this dream” Perry wrote. Pop star PinkPantheress kept it short. “OKAYYY”
Comedian Heather K McMahan spoke for the general public, demanding answers in real-time. “I’m sorry what??? we are SAT Susan!!!!!”
But the real conversation is unfolding over on Reddit.
While the Instagram crowd praised the sleek styling, Reddit users focused entirely on the hair. Specifically, a severe, ultra-blunt bob that looks sharp enough to cut glass. It is a massive departure from the soft, familiar curls the world met nearly two decades ago on a British stage.
The reviews on the new length are mixed. “That’s not a bob, that’s a Robert,” one user wrote.
Another commenter pointed fingers straight at the highest echelons of fashion publishing, alleging a midnight heist. “She stole it from Anna Wintour after the Met Gala. Anna is still looking for it”
What this means for May 29 remains a mystery. A new album? A massive global tour? A high-fashion partnership? Boyle is keeping the details locked away until the clock runs out..
Royal Family to Erase Final Traces of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle From Frogmore Cottage
Frogmore Cottage is set to undergo yet another renovation following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's £2.4m ($2.9m) refurbishment of the property before they stepped down as working members of the royal family.
The royal family is reportedly set to erase the final traces of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the cottage.
In 2023 King Charles officially evicted the couple from Frogmore Cottage and it has been vacant ever since.
The former Prince Andrew was offered the use of the house after he was stripped of his titles and evicted from his 30-room mansion Royal Lodge, but he declined.
A source told the Sun, “It’s been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in.

“Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it.
“It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”
The house was a grace-and-favor wedding 'gift' from Queen Elizabeth II to Harry when he married Meghan in 2018.
The $2.9m for refurbishments was provided from the Sovereign Grant, an allowance that the government provides to the queen based on profits from the Crown Estate (a collection of lands and holdings in the United Kingdom belonging to the British monarch.)
Most of the money was used to convert the dwelling from from two semi-detached houses into a single residence.
The grant also went towards replacing ceiling beams, heating systems and wiring, high-tech surveillance equipment, and the creation of living quarters for security staff.

Meanwhile the duke and duchess paid for things like curtains and furnishings themselves, as well as the re-landscaping of the garden.
Contrary to previous reports, Meghan did nothave a yoga studio with a floating wooden floor installed.
When Harry and Meghan left the UK they paid back the money they had spent on renovations. Now it has been speculated that Frogmore Cottage will be subdivided into multiple apartments once more.
Frogmore House was the couple's marital home and is where their 7-year-old son Prince Archie spent the first few months of his life.
Following the publication of Harry's bombshell memoir Spare, King Charles officially requested that the Sussexes vacate the house.
In 2022 Meghan revealed in an interview that it had been "surreal" to return to Frogmore Cottage in order to collect her remaining belongings.
"You go back and you open drawers and you’re like, Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there? And here’s all my socks from this time?" she told Allison P. Davis in The Cut.
Frogmore Cottage is a 19th century, Grade II-listed property. It is located in the grounds of the grand Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan had their wedding reception.
The king is currently dealing with his own renovation headache. Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a massive refurbishment project to prevent the risk of “catastrophic building failure”—some of its 100 miles of electrical cable is 60 years old, while its boilers were installed in the 1980s.
£369m ($500m) has been allocated from the Sovereign Grant towards the renovation costs.

’70s Teen Idol Robby Benson: Where He Is Now?
Once one of the defining teen idols of the 1970s, Robby Benson won over audiences with his boy-next-door charm. Decades later, his life has moved far beyond that heartthrob era, shifting into new creative and personal chapters that may surprise fans.
The actor, who rose to fame in the television moviesJeremy and Ode to Billy Joe, keeps a low profile. He has stepped back from the spotlight in recent years, but continues to work as an actor, voice-over artist, and director.
In the 1970s, Benson was a film staple, and his soft-spoken voice, dark hair, and blue eyes made him a perfect teenage pin-up. Alongside Leif Garrett, Kristy McNichol, Shaun Cassidy, and Brooke Shields, Benson was part of a wave of young stars who defined teen idol culture during the decade.
Throughout the '70s, Benson appeared in the feature films Death Be Not Proud, Jory, Our Town, The End, Ice Castles, Walk Proud, Ode to Billy Joe, The Chosen, and Harry and Son. Additionally, he appeared as a guest star on One Day at a Time, wrote a soundtrack song for the film The Breakfast Club ("We Are Not Alone") with his wife, Karla DeVito, and completed voice-over work, along with numerous other guest appearances in both film and television.

Benson remained a working actor, musician, and voice-over artist for two decades before he was cast as the voice of the beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast (the animated character has blue eyes as a nod to his portrayer). That role led to a series of voice work projects for PJ Sparkles, Batman: The Animated Series, Wild West C.O.W., Lincoln, and The Legend of Prince Valiant.
While maintaining a busy career as a working actor, the former teen idol also stepped behind the camera, directing episodes of Evening Shade, Family Album, Monty, Muddling Through, Good Advice, Exosquad, Thunder Alley, Ellen, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Jesse, 8 Simple Rules, and Friends, among others.
View this post on InstagramMost recently, Benson appeared as Dr. Mauer on Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Severance. He told PEOPLE Magazine in March 2025, "I was very lucky that Rachel Tenner, who is the casting director for Severance, had a good idea to hire me. And so I did an audition on tape for Ben [Stiller], and it went well, and he was so lovely. I mean, he's such a good man."
Robby Benson has been married to songwriter Karla DeVito for 44 years. They wed on July 11, 1982. They have two children together; a daughter, Lyric (1983), and a son, Zephyr (1992).

7 Traits of People Who Prefer the Company of Dogs Over Humans, According to Psychologists
If you’ve landed on this page, you’re more than likely someone who prefers the company of dogs over humans, or know someone who does. Maybe this person constantly brings their pup everywhere, even places that aren't really pet-friendly. Or maybe they blow off plans with coworkers to take their furry friend out to a park. Even if it's not an extreme preference like that, you still might be curious about why some people have this inclination.
Whether you recently discovered that you’ve been spending more time with your dog than with your family or friends, or you have been doing so for several years, it's always good to learn more about yourself. You know: gaining a deeper understanding of your life, your relationship with your pet and more. That said, everyone is different, which is why it’s important to talk with a mental health professional if you have concerns or if you find yourself seeking additional clarity about your traits and any circumstances you may be wondering about.
Ahead, Parade spoke with some psychologists to learn the seven traits commonly shared amongst people who prefer the company of dogs over humans, plus why some people have that preference. Our experts also provide insights into whether it is harmful and how one can make "man's best friend" part of their lives in a healthy way.

What Do You Call a Person Who Prefers the Company of Dogs Over People? While there isn’t a specific psychological or scientific term to describe people who prefer the company of dogs over humans, Dr. Jennifer Dragonette, PsyD—a psychologist and clinical services instructor at Newport Institute—notes that many people (especially on the internet) have coined and have self-identified with the term “dogtrovert.” This is, of course, a cutesy play on the word "introvert" to be dog-centric (as they are).

7 Traits of People Who Prefer the Company of Dogs Over Humans, According to PsychologistsEven though many people who prefer the company of dogs over humans share these traits, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you or a loved one possesses them or will in the future, as each person is unique.
1. EmpatheticDr. Dragonette and Dr. Joseph Laino, PsyD—who is a psychologist and assistant director at Sunset Terrace Family Health Center at NYU Langone—both note that many people who prefer the company of dogs over humans tend to be empathetic.
“Because dogs communicate nonverbally, these individuals tend to be skilled at picking up on subtle emotional cues,” Dr. Dragonette explains.
While these individuals are likely often able to feel for other humans in their life, “folks may feel a sense of empathy for their pets’ emotions and needs,” adds Dr. Laino.
2. IntrovertedWhile this might seem obvious (especially based on the "dogrovert" mention above), Dr. Ernesto Lira de la Rosa points out that many people who prefer the company of dogs over humans may do so as a result of being more introverted and overstimulated by constant engagement with other humans.
“Dogs offer a connection without the same level of demand,” explains Dr. Lira de la Rosa, who is a clinical psychologist at Columbia Health and media advisor for Hope for Depression Research Foundation. “You can be quiet, you can just sit together, and that still counts as a connection.”
Dr. Dragonette agrees that people who choose to spend time with dogs rather than humans are more introverted.
“They’re often quite thoughtful observers of social dynamics, even if they don’t seek them out as often,” she adds.
3. AuthenticSince dogs tend to be authentic, those who have a preference for them over humans are usually authentic, too.
“These individuals may have limited tolerance for small talk or impression management and gravitate toward interactions that feel more direct,” says Dr. Dragonette. “They’re often very aware of when something feels performative versus genuine.”
Because of this, these individuals tend to gravitate towards authenticity, too, which is why they feel so drawn to dogs.
Related: People Who Sleep in the Same Bed as Their Pets Often Display These 10 Traits, Psychologists Say
4. They desire predictable relationshipsDr. Laino notes that, since sometimes human relationships can be unreliable, people who prefer the company of dogs over humans do so as relationships with dogs are often more predictable.
“Life with a dog is relatively straightforward, simple and consistent: walking, feeding, playing, etc.,” says Dr. Jan Miller, PhD, a licensed psychologist with Thriveworks in Athens, GA. “This can provide the type of structure and reassurance that isn’t always found in human relationships.”
5. Conflict-avoidantSimilarly, Dr. Laino notes that being conflict-avoidant can also cause people to favor the company of dogs over humans.
“As a result of being less complicated, relationships with our pets can be less conflictual than with humans, so people with a low tolerance for conflict may prefer relationships with pets,” he explains.
6. NurturingIt might not surprise you to learn that many people who would choose the company of dogs over humans are inclined to be nurturing.
“They show care through actions, consistency, and attention,” explains Dr. Lira de la Rosa. “Caring for a dog fits well with that [as] it gives them a way to express that part of themselves without worrying whether it will be reciprocated.”
7. They need dominance and controlWhile this trait might not be the most appealing one to read about at the outset, Dr. Miller explains that people who tend to favor the company of dogs more than humans often have an increased need for dominance and control within their relationships.
“This can be an adaptive way to exert dominance and control in relationships as it is more socially acceptable for a human to dominate and control, while the dog is submissive and obedient,” she explains.
Why Do Some People Prefer the Company of Animals Over People? There are several reasons why some people prefer the company of animals over people. Dr. Laino notes that animals’ non-judgmental nature often leads people to prefer them to humans, as these types of relationships tend to be less stressful.
“They [pets] don’t criticize how we look, our weight, our material possessions, or our political opinions,” he explains. “They give us love freely without regard to those things.”
Dr. Dragonette also notes that some people’s strong relationship with their dog can be attributed to biology.
“Interacting with dogs can increase oxytocin, which supports bonding and helps regulate stress,” she explains.
Dr. Miller adds that sometimes this dynamic forms because a person just really loves animals and is seeking unconditional love. Relationships with dogs may also be increasingly stable and predictable, leading to increased feelings of safety that want to be maintained.
Is This Preference Harmful?Dr. Dragonette notes that the preference to surround oneself with animals over people usually isn’t harmful. That said, there are some indicators to look out for if you feel your or a loved one’s preference has become detrimental to overall well-being.
“It becomes more clinically relevant if it starts to narrow someone’s world, if they’re withdrawing from necessary relationships, struggling to engage at work or school, or using that preference to avoid addressing something more difficult,” she explains.
While this isn’t always the case, Dr. Miller notes that if someone prefers dogs so much to the point where they are adding too many dogs to their household than they can afford or properly care for, neglecting their health and well-being (or the dogs’), then it may be harmful.
Furthermore, Dr. Dragonette explains that sometimes this preference develops as a result of past trauma in human relationships or from dealing with social anxiety when connecting with others. When that is the case, these individuals can find a therapist who can help them work through their issues and help develop healthier relationships with humans and animals.

MSC Cruises Just Banned a Major Hidden Travel Surcharge for Summer 2026
Planning a summer vacation lately has felt like navigating a budget minefield. Between unpredictable airfare spikes, climbing resort fees and surprise surcharges, everyday travelers are facing historic levels of sticker shock before they even pack a bag. The craving for predictable, all-inclusive pricing has never been higher—and MSC Cruises is stepping in to change the game.
The cruise line officially launched its massive new consumer-first initiative this week, a global summer commitment titled the "Best Holiday Ever." Designed specifically to capture vacationers who're feeling burnt out by the stress and rising costs of traditional land-based trips, the program positions the open ocean as the ultimate hassle-free, economically stable alternative to expensive hotels.
View this post on InstagramThe best part of the announcement tackles one of the most annoying hidden fees in travel: the dreaded fuel supplement. Driven by ongoing Middle East conflicts that have forced maritime vessels into longer, fuel-heavy detours around Africa, global oil prices have skyrocketed past $100 a barrel. Because fine print clauses in most cruise ticket contracts allow lines to slap guests with automatic fuel fees of $9 to $12 per person, per day—even after a trip is paid in full—a family of four could easily face an unexpected $300 to $400 bill right at embarkation. While select overseas carriers have already begun quietly adding these daily fees to summer bookings, MSC is drawing a firm line in the sand.
As part of the rollout, the cruise line is guaranteeing a complete ban on new summer fuel surcharges, ensuring total upfront price transparency from the moment you book. By eliminating the fear of unexpected operational costs shifting your bottom line, you can secure a warm-weather getaway with absolute peace of mind.
Related: 10 Cruise Etiquette Rules First-Timers Always Miss (And Regret Later)
Beyond the pricing freeze, the new program focuses heavily on removing the logistics-heavy mental load that routinely derails a relaxing vacation. For those who want a completely seamless journey, the line is highlighting its fully protected Fly & Cruise packages. These bundle commercial flights, dedicated ground transfers, and the cruise itinerary into a single, coordinated framework. If an unexpected flight delay occurs mid-transit, the cruise line's support team actively manages the logistics to ensure you safely connect with your ship.
If you prefer to skip the airport entirely, you can easily take advantage of a vacation that starts much closer to home. With convenient U.S. embarkation ports including Miami, Port Canaveral, Galveston and Seattle, thousands of travelers can simply hop in the car or take a short train ride to the ship. This drive-market flexibility means you can completely bypass airline security lines and enjoy zero limits on your luggage weight.
Combined with deposits starting at just $99 and highly flexible booking terms that permit free cruise changes up to 30 days before departure (on Fantastica, Aurea and MSC Yacht Club experiences), navigating your summer travel schedule has never been easier. After all, the best way to kick off a vacation is knowing exactly what you're paying upfront.

This summer, in honor of the United States' semiquincentennial, the Boston-founded beer brand is celebrating with two variety packs: the Brewer Patriot Collection and Star Spangled Variety Pack, each of which are packed with exclusive brews that fans won't find in any other pack.

Sam Adams said its Brewer Patriot Collection will be available as a four pack exclusively via the Give Them Beer website for $17.76 each, beginning today (May 28) but only while supplies last.
Its Star Spangled variety is available nationwide now in 12-packs (SRP: $17.99) and 24-packs (SRP: $29.99) at major retailers. To find it near you, try the official Sam Adams product locator.

Tina Fey Reveals the Emotional Behind-the-Scenes Moment That Made Hosting 'SNL UK' Feel 'Historic' (Exclusive)
Decades after George Carlin hosted the inaugural episode of Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey made history herself, becoming the first-ever host of SNL UK. Though following in Carlin's footsteps wasn't something that had crossed her mind at the time.
"Oh my gosh, I didn't think about it like that," she quipped in an exclusive interview with Parade. But, it certainly felt like she got to witness "something kind of historic."
"Hosting SNL UK was so much fun. I was so honored to be the first host," she gushed. "That cast is so talented, the writing staff. It was really kind of beautiful."
The UK adaptation of NBC's iconic sketch comedy show, which wrapped its 51st season earlier this month, debuted on March 21. Fey, a former cast member and head writer of the American version, wasn't the only SNL veteran involved in the lead-up to the premiere on Sky and NOW.

"I went there for like a total of three weeks to kind of help out a little bit. A bunch of the U.S. team came for those first couple shows," she revealed, including Saturday Night Live's head cue card holder Chris "Wally" Feresten.
"The cue card department had been trained by Wally, the head of cue cards from the New York show came," Fey continued. "[He] flew over and had trained them. They were all like super proud to show off how good they were at cue cards."
Wally's son was also on hand to help with training, which added another layer to the experience for Fey. "He's like, 'I'm Wally's son,'" she recalled. "I almost started crying because there's a lot of like familial and kind of institutional knowledge."

Since the premiere, Fey has continued watching SNL UK every week on Peacock, describing the show as "hilarious." The Emmy winner, who has hosted the American version six times to date, would be open to taking on hosting duties across the pond again.
"I would go anytime," she shared. However, Fey pointed out that the "plan was always for it to be really British now" and thinks the show "should probably just have" UK hosts for a long time.
Fellow SNL alum Will Forte agreed that the spinoff should be reserved for British hosts. "Except Will, you should go," Fey told him, before he began practicing a Beatles accent during their joint interview with Parade. "I take it back. I take it all back," she joked.
Forte praised SNL UK, saying it's "got an amazing spirit to it" and it's "really fun." For him, it was also "so fun to watch" his Four Seasons co-star host the London-based show. "That's the great thing about being a part of [Netflix's The Four Seasons], is like we're all big fans of each other," Forte said. "It's just this amazing collection of people, you get to see these amazing talents that they all have right up close, and it's just so fun. You also like hanging out with them. It's the best. What a job."
Season 2 of The Four Seasons premiered May 28 on NetflixEmily V. Aragones/Netflix © 2025
The Four Seasons, also starring Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani and Erika Henningsen, returned for its second season on May 28, with the group of friends continuing their tradition of taking seasonal trips together, while still grieving the loss of Nick and navigating relationships and friendships.

Season 2's heavier moments land so well alongside the comedy because, as Fey explained, that's "sort of how real life is." "That it's like never all one thing or the other," she said. "Humor is such a coping mechanism when things are heavy."
"Tina and the writers just do the best job of finding that grounded element of every situation and having the humor in it, it's like realistic," Forte added. "Most people when they're going through a scary moment or a sad moment, they might try to inject a little levity into it, and so like they just do such a good job of creating these moments that feel so real."
While her character Kate is questioning her purpose this season, Fey has a clear handle on her own these days, and The Four Seasons is a continuation of that. Reflecting on her purpose as she turned 56 on May 18, the Only Murders in the Building actress said, "To try to tell stories with my friends and hopefully bring those stories to other people who will feel comforted and entertained by them."
Season 2 of The Four Seasons is now streaming on Netflix.

'Criminal Minds: Evolution' Boss Reveals What's Next for Sicarius — and Why Season 19 Has 'Unfinished Business' (Exclusive)
The dark, psychological drama that is Criminal Minds: Evolution returns with our favorite members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) back on the hunt for the nation’s most twisted and dangerous killers, when Season 19 returns tonight.
In addition to the new chilling cases investigated by the BAU, this season will also see the return of Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), aka Sicarius, who no longer a sociopath, embarks on a path to atone for his past sins. But it won’t be easy, because he’s inspired a new serial killer to follow in his footsteps, named "The Fan," so Voit is called upon to aid the BAU as it tracks down the new nemesis.
“I always felt like we had this unfinished business from Season 1 with Voit,” showrunner Erica Messer tells Parade. “Every time he was on his computer and talking to these other people in his network, I kept raising my hand in the room and being like “you guys, we have all these killers that we have never caught. What if…” and then that becomes a huge idea of how many are there and are they still active?”
Voit, of course, has been locked away for several years, but the severe beating he took in prison caused him to wake up a changed man. And while the BAU thinks they caught the majority of Sicarius’ Network, they still need to make sure that that’s the case.
“I really felt it was important to dive back into that,” Messer continued. “This idea that there’s a Fan out there who maybe wants to emulate him – the copycat thing is very real in the serial killer world -- so, it felt like that was another avenue that we hadn’t been able to go down before.”
The 10-episode Season 19 will have a year time jump and will be a combination of cases of the week, combined with the overall season arc of tracking down The Fan.
“We wanted to have some of our character arcs live a little bit in the time between us seeing them on screen, most notably, JJ,” Messer explained. “She’s not still in the rawness of the grief of immediately losing Will, the aftermath of that that we felt in Season 18. Now it’s been a year and change when you consider he died in Episode 3. That will always be a part of her life, but now she has this other new chapter that she’s embarking on, which is sending a kid off to college and doing that without her spouse, who she thought would be there for those days. So, it was definitely keeping that idea alive of there’s something missing from this, but also life goes on, and now I’m going to have to adjust to sending my firstborn off to college.”
The time jump also allowed Voit to figure out who he was after his traumatic brain trauma, and how to survive in solitary, where he’s been confined as a result of his crimes. He is also having to learn to deal with his “fame,” because he’s now a well-known serial killer, like Ted Bundy, and he's doing interviews with Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) to document his story for the BAU, while David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) tries to keep his distance.
“One of the best things about Evolution is that we’re able to really spend more time with our heroes and their journeys and personal lives,” Messer said. “And it’s not even that we’re going home with them more; just that we learn more about them. And that is one of my favorite things about Evolution.”
And then there’s the good news. Criminal Minds: Evolution has already been picked up for its 20th season, so there’s more to come.
“When we wrote Season 19, we knew we wanted it to be not the same kind of cliffhanger we had done in the past, but definitely a ‘to be continued,’” Messer said. “So, there is a definite feeling like some things have been wrapped up and yet, there’s always going to be a case for us to solve.”
Criminal Minds: Evolution begins streaming new episodes today exclusively on Paramount+, with new episodes dropping each Thursday through the season finale on July 23. There are 10 episodes this season.
