When it comes to daily or weekly habits that can hurt your bladder, you might think about common mistakes like holding your pee and not peeing after sex. Some more surprising, yet very real, culprits of bladder issues include smoking and drinking too much water (yes, you read that right!). Certain foods and drinks, such as oranges, hot peppers, coffee and carbonated beverages, are can negatively impact bladder health, too. (*Sigh.*)

As far as what we can add to our lives, certain bladder-friendly workouts are on the list, such as “dead bugs” and Pilates. Doing pelvic floor exercises and stocking up on foods such as bananas, whole grains and eggs are great to incorporate as well. 

Changing our habits to be more bladder-friendly can be helpful for obvious reasons—like avoiding discomfort and constant bathroom trips—and also for other reasons, like wanting to stay active.

To provide further education, let’s talk about one unexpected and harmful thing you probably don’t realize affects your bladder. Spoiler alert: It’s been pretty big in the news.

Ahead, urologists share what that one thing is (and how to avoid it), how it hurts bladder health, symptoms it may cause and other surprising things that can do a number on your bladder.

The Surprising Thing That May Hurt Your Bladder Health

Microplastics—which are unfortunately everywhere—can harm your bladder health. To be clear, the research on this connection is still very new, and this is a “correlation does not mean causation” situation. Still, the potential for concern is worth considering.

“Research on microplastics is increasingly showing that we should be concerned, or at the very least, keep an eye on our consumption,” says Dr. Shaya Taghechian, MD, a board-certified urologist with Georgia Urology in Atlanta. “The way I see it, microplastics can cause several potentially problematic effects on the bladder.” 

Microplastics, AKA tiny plastic particles, are often consumed through what we eat and drink. The kidneys filter them, then they remain in the bladder. Further, they’ve been found in urine. But where’s the problem?

“The sensitive bladder lining can react poorly to contact with these particles, leading to chronic inflammation and oxidative stress,” Dr. Taghechian tells Parade. “These microplastics may even reduce the bladder’s ability to properly store urine, especially if its protective cellular barrier breaks down.”

She adds that she’s seen an increase in bladder health symptoms across the board, and finds it “entirely plausible” to suspect microplastics.

Microplastics aren’t the only concern, of course. “In my practice, I always remind patients that the bladder doesn’t respond well to ongoing irritation, whether it’s from infection, smoking, certain foods or potentially environmental exposures,” says Dr. Jason B. Carter, MD, a urologist and medical advisor with Aeroflow Urology. “We don’t have definitive evidence that microplastics directly cause bladder disease, but there’s enough concern that they're worth paying attention to as the research evolves.”

Microplastics Can Cause These 5 Bladder Symptoms

How do you know microplastics are hurting your bladder, and what kinds of symptoms can they cause? 

“Right now, we can’t say that microplastics cause specific bladder symptoms, but if they contribute to inflammation, they could potentially make existing bladder problems worse,” Dr. Carter says.

He and Dr. Taghechian list the following symptoms: 

1. Increased urinary urgency and frequency
2. Bladder pain and discomfort 
3. Higher risk of chronic, recurring UTIs
4. Urinary incontinence or unintentional leakage
5. Pelvic pain

If you notice these issues, it's better to see a doctor sooner rather than later.

How To Avoid Microplastics

This is the million-dollar question, according to Dr. Taghechian. While we can’t completely avoid microplastics, the urologists say, some simple habits can make a big difference. She and Dr. Carter suggest the following: 

• Swap single-use plastic water bottles (even BPA-free ones) for a stainless steel water bottle.
• Don’t reheat foods or drinks in plastic; instead, use a microwave-safe glass or ceramic plate and a steel cup.
• Use loose-leaf tea and a metal strainer instead of a teabag.
• Filter your tap water.
• Vacuum regularly. 
• Use a HEPA filtration system.
• Choose fresh foods over heavily packaged or processed meals whenever possible.

Again, while the microplastic factor is new, it’s worth keeping in mind. “While we wait for stronger scientific evidence, reducing unnecessary plastic exposure is a practical, common-sense step that may benefit your health in more ways than one,” Dr. Carter says.

3 Other Unexpected Things That Hurt Bladder Health

Dr. Taghechian says urologists “see how many people experience negative bladder effects from things they least expect.” She and Dr. Carter share a few examples beyond microplastics:

1. Chronic constipation

While the bladder and bowels are separate, they're close together and affect each other. 

“Most people don’t realize that when you’re constipated, the rectum sits right behind the bladder,” Dr. Carter says. “If it’s full of stool, it can put pressure on the bladder and make it harder to empty, leading to urgency, frequency, leakage and even recurrent urinary tract infections.”

Dr. Taghechian encourages talking to a urologist if you have trouble passing stools, noting that adjusting your diet, increasing your water intake and medication can help.

2. Dehydration

Do you ever drink less so you’ll have to hit the bathroom less? That’s not doing your body any favors.

“Concentrated urine is actually much more irritating to the bladder,” Dr. Carter explains. “I’ve seen plenty of patients whose urgency, burning or frequency improved simply by staying better hydrated.”

3. A tight pelvic floor

You’ve probably heard the strong push to strengthen your pelvic floor. While that’s good advice for some, it’s unnecessary (and even straight-up unhelpful) for others.

“Many of us would already be further strengthening already strong pelvic floor muscles, which can lead to hypertonic dysfunction or a tight pelvic floor,” Dr. Taghechian says. “If you are experiencing urinary issues, it’s important to visit a qualified urologist to determine whether your problem is due to a pelvic floor that is too tight or too weak—or something entirely unrelated.”

While bladder health as a whole can seem big and overwhelming, taking care of it doesn’t have to be. “Sometimes the simplest changes make the biggest difference,” Dr. Carter says. Consider limiting microplastic exposure as one of those changes.

Inspiration can strike from anywhere, and Yusuf Islam / Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken" was first penned as a religious children's hymn in 1931 before it became a hit folk-pop track.

The '70s had several musicians dominating the airwaves, and one of them was Stevens with "Morning Has Broken," as it landed him at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was his most successful single on the chart, which later became tied to his rendition of "Another Saturday Night."

According to reports, Stevens was inspired to write the track into a full-fledged song when he found it while browsing a bookstore. It's even possible that the musician had heard the original hymn before when he was a child.

“I accidentally fell upon the song when I was going through a slightly dry period and I needed another song or two for Teaser and the Firecat,” said Stevens, according to American Songwriter.

“I came across this hymn book, found this one song, and thought, this is good. I put the chords to it and then it started becoming associated with me.” 

Reports claim that Stevens' record label was hesitant to release the track due to its religious nature and feared it wouldn't perform well. "Morning Has Broken" was originally published in the early 1930's by English author Eleanor Farjeon. She was mostly known for writing children's stories when she was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex and set the hymn to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, "Bunessan."

When having created the track, even keyboardist Rick Wakeman was hesitant and humored the songwriter, believing "he’d give me extra money, so I acted extra keen." Stevens first worked with the hymn that only managed to be 45 seconds long when sung, and his record label insisted the track needed to be at least three minutes to work.

He heard Wakeman's working track of "Catherine Howard" and convinced the keyboardist to adapt his composition for "Morning Had Broken," despite the track being intended as a solo by Wakeman.

The track would go on to be covered by more than a handful of artists like Neil Diamond and Kenny Rogers. Despite Wakeman having been a part of the song, he was never credited upon its release. He claims to have agreed to perform it for $10 and was hurt to have not been credited, as well as never have been paid. Stevens would later apologize and have the record label pay him his dues, with Wakeman having given the money to one of his schools.

More than half a century after launching one of entertainment's most unlikely recording careers, William Shatner is stepping behind the microphone once again.

The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor announced that he will release a new spoken-word album Love & Other Mysteries on Aug. 21. The project features original material written by Shatner and his longtime writing partner, exploring themes inhttps://parade.com/news/star-trek-59th-anniversary-klingon-aicluding the healing power of music, the courage to be vulnerable, the beauty of art and nature, and the wonder of the universe. The album is available for pre-order now, and its first track, "The Great Mystery," has already been released.

One of the album's biggest surprises is who's behind the scenes.

Country music superstar Brad Paisley co-produced Love & Other Mysteries alongside Grammy-winning producer Luke Wooten. Paisley also contributed musical arrangements with Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith and acclaimed pianist Gordon Mote.

"This album has my heart, and it also reflects my deep friendship with my writing partner," Shatner said in a statement. "We're both very proud of this work, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. Brad has been a source of inspiration for me for a long time. I believe this album reflects the love and soul of everybody who contributed to this beautiful music."

Brad Paisley and William Shatner have worked together for decades

While the collaboration may surprise some fans, Shatner and Paisley's friendship stretches back more than 20 years.

Over that time, they've teamed up on multiple musical projects, appeared together in Paisley's music videos for "Celebrity" and "Online," shared the stage at the CMA Awards and even worked together during Shatner's Broadway show, Shatner's World: We Just Live In It.

The new album continues a musical partnership that has become one of the most unexpected in either artist's career.

Music has been part of William Shatner's career for nearly 60 years

Although generations of fans know Shatner best as Captain James T. Kirk from the Star Trek franchise, music has been an important creative outlet throughout his career.

His recording career began with 1968's The Transformed Man, a spoken-word album that paired dramatic literary readings with interpretations of contemporary pop songs such as "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Mr. Tambourine Man." While the unconventional project was widely mocked upon its release and later appeared on Rhino Records' Golden Throats compilations, it eventually developed a cult following and helped establish Shatner's distinctive spoken-word style.

Shatner has continued recording ever since, releasing projects including Has Been, Seeking Major Tom, The Blues, Bill and 2024's So Fragile, So Blue. Love & Other Mysteries adds another chapter to that long-running musical journey, arriving nearly six decades after his debut album.

Beloved actor Mandy Patinkin just shared that he'd like his body to be composted when he dies.

Patinkin, 73, rose to stardom as a talented theatrical actor. His legendary film roles, like Inigo Montoya in Rob Reiner's iconic film The Princess Bride and Avigdor alongside Barbra Streisand in Yentl, solidified his stardom. In recent years, he earned tremendous acclaim for his role as Saul Berenson in Showtime's hit series, Homeland. But it's his plans for his body after death that caught the ears of listeners.

In a new episode of his "Don't Listen to Us" podcast, Patinkin spoke to Robyn, a woman whose husband wanted to have an environmentally friendly burial. She shared how cremation is actually a toxic process. Patinkin revealed that due to his claustrophobia, he isn't keen on being put in a coffin.

"I'm very claustrophobic, very claustrophobic, and the idea of being put in a box, knowing that I'm going to be in a box when whatever I'm familiar with is drastically changed is just unacceptable to me. Period. Full stop," said Patinkin, who added, "Don't give me any business about, 'Well, you're not you, you're not here, it's a whole different thing.' Excuse me. Not OK."

He also noted that because of his Jewish faith, he cannot be cremated.

"The other idea of being put in an oven is seared into my heritage genetics of the crematorium in Auschwitz, which I've visited. I can't bear the idea of being burned," he shared.

Patinkin Loved The Idea of Human Composting

When Robyn shared that her husband followed the plan for human composting, Patinkin was enchanted by the idea. Also known as natural organic reduction, human composting is an eco-friendly burial option where the human body transforms into soil. Patinkin was so taken by the idea that he decided he'd like to do it.

"I can't deal with the oven and I can't deal with the box," Patinkin said. "I love this idea so much because I don't have to be burned, and I don't have to be claustrophobic. I'm naturally put in this encasement that you've just described. I'm free to go to the Olam Haba, the world beyond, as complete. And then the organic process turns me into, you know, mulch, food, soil. And I'm not in an oven … I just am ecstatic over this."

Timothy Olyphant bleached his hair and his eyebrows for his role in Alien: Earth, a science fiction horror series that is set two years before the events of the 1979 film Alien. When appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Olyphant spoke about his new look, which his wife, Alexis Knief, isn’t thrilled about.

“My wife’s not a huge fan of it,” he explained, stating that he covers bleached eyebrows with gel whenever they go out in public together. He later added, “I think actually she said, ‘You know, you could put makeup on.'”

“The reason I discovered the brow gel is because every time I would get dressed to go out with her, I invariably do that thing that I’ve never stopped doing for 35 years, which is like, ‘Honey, how’s this look?’ And then she would just look at me and go, ‘It’s just the eyebrows,'" he said. “So this year, it just occurred to me, I didn’t do it at all season 1. I just went around everywhere with white eyebrows. My apologies, honey. But this year I was like, ‘Oh wait, brow gel.’"

Olyphant met his wife when they were in college. They got married in 1991 and have been together for 35 years. When speaking about their marriage in a 2011 interview with Women’s Health, he said, “You have to be with the right person, and you both have to be willing to do the work, day in and day out, to make it happen."

The pair have three children together. During his Women's Health interview, he also spoke about the stress of raising children. When asked how fatherhood changed him, he said, “It f---ing exhausts you! That's how it changes you! My buddy on the show is expecting a baby. I said, 'Imagine I call you at midnight, and I hang up without saying anything. Then I call you two hours later, and I hang up again. This continues. Oh, and by the way, in between my calls, you're wondering if I'm dead.' That's what it's like.”

Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja, the record-setting mountaineer whose remarkable career inspired a Netflix documentary, has died following an avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak. He was 43.

Elite Exped, the guiding company Purja co-founded, confirmed his death Saturday, Aug. 1, as reported by The New York Times.  He was part of a 10-person international climbing team caught in the avalanche on Thursday.

Broad Peak rises 26,414 feet in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region. It is the 12th-highest mountain in the world and one of the planet’s 14 peaks exceeding 8,000 meters.

Nirmal Purja Dies in Broad Peak Avalanche

Purja and the nine other climbers had been missing since the avalanche swept across the mountain around midday on Thursday, July 30. The group included six Nepali climbers and mountaineers from Pakistan, Oman, the United States and China, according to Reuters.

"Today, it is with profound sadness and immense heartbreak that we confirm that Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja tragically lost his life following the avalanche on Broad Peak," Elite Exped said, as reported by The Guardian. "We have also received confirmation that other members of the expedition sadly did not survive," the company continued.

The company separately mourned Pur Bahadur Gurung, known as Yukta, and Nima Sherpa, describing them as Purja’s trusted climbing partners and guides.

‘14 Peaks’ Turned Nirmal Purja Into a Global Star

Purja became an international name in 2019 when he completed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter mountains in six months and six days.  The extraordinary feat became the subject of the 2021 Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.

Kristin Harila and Tenjen Lama Sherpa later broke his speed record in 2023, completing the same group of mountains in 92 days. Purja finished another historic run in 2024 when he climbed all 14 peaks without supplemental oxygen. He returned to Broad Peak this summer, hoping to move closer to becoming the first person to complete the entire group twice without bottled oxygen. Only Cho Oyu would have remained if he had reached the summit.

From British Special Forces to Mountaineering History

Long before his climbing career, Purja served for 16 years in the British military. He joined the Gurkhas in 2003 and later became the first Gurkha accepted into the Special Boat Service, the Royal Navy’s elite special forces unit, as per his official website.

His accomplishments continued well beyond his famous 2019 challenge. Purja joined the Nepali team that completed the first winter ascent of K2 in January 2021. He also took the viral 2019 photograph showing climbers waiting in a long line near Mount Everest’s summit, fueling a worldwide debate about overcrowding.

Elite Exped said he spent six years with the Gurkhas and 10 years with British special forces.

Before the Broad Peak expedition, Purja had completed 57 ascents of 8,000-meter mountains, including 29 without supplemental oxygen, according to Climbing.

Beloved blues musician Robert Cray has certainly earned legend status thanks to his illustrious career spanning more than five decades. Today, Aug. 1, 2026, he celebrates his 73rd birthday.

Cray was born on Aug. 1, 1953, in Columbus, Georgia. He started playing the guitar at the age of 12, according to a 2007 interview with Guitar Messenger. Inspired by music icons like The Beatles, Cray said that "everybody got a guitar" when the '60s rockers first entered the scene.

"I wanted [a guitar] as well. That’s what got me going," he recalled. "So you know with everybody playing guitar we sat around and listened to the radio and the kids in the carports and the garages would meet up and say 'oh, you know that song you learned. Show me that one.' So that’s what that was all about."

The "Right Next Door (Because of Me)" hitmaker took some formal music lessons in his younger years, but it was the "school of the road" that helped Cray develop his skills. At 20, he began touring with his band, The Robert Cray Band, formed in 1974, touring venues across the United States and playing covers of rock songs by bands such as Quicksilver Messenger Service and Blodwyn Pig, per Universal Music Group's digital magazine, uDiscover Music.

Who's Been Talkin' was Cray's debut album, released in 1980. His fourth studio album, Strong Persuader, released in 1986, was the record that catapulted Cray and his band to stardom. Strong Persuader peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Smoking Gun," reached No. 2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Rolling Stone ranked the album at No. 42 on its list of "100 best albums of the 1980s".

In 1988, the album took home the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Recording. Over the course of his 50-plus-year career, Cray has won five Grammys out of 16 nominations.

His accolades don't stop there. In 2011, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. He was also the recipient of the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for performance, per his website, further cementing him among the most influential blues artists of his generation.

Savannah Guthrie is marking six months without her beloved mother, Nancy Guthrie, with a deeply personal appeal for the information her family desperately needs.

The Today co-anchor shared a photograph of Nancy on Instagram Saturday, Aug. 1, one day after authorities released two purported ransom notes connected to her disappearance.

"This is our beautiful Mom," Savannah began her anniversary message. "Six months ago, someone took her out of her bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since," she continued.

Savannah said her family has tried to carry on with the strength and optimism Nancy taught them. Behind that effort, however, is a grief that has touched every part of their lives. She wrote that her family spends each day thinking about Nancy and searching for answers.

She added, “Cam and Kristine, Annie and Tommy, Mike and me — we spend every waking moment thinking of her, longing for her, looking for her. There is a hole inside us that can never be filled. There is an ache that cannot be softened. And there is a determination in us that cannot be quenched — to find out what happened to her, so that we can give her the dignity of a proper goodbye — a celebration of her remarkable life that she so deserves.”

The timing of the post carried its own significance. Savannah shared it at 1:47 a.m. in Arizona, the beginning of the window during which investigators believe Nancy was taken from her Tucson home.

Savannah directed part of her message toward people who may recognize the language in the newly released notes or may have noticed troubling changes in someone close to them. "We are begging for help. We are desperate. We need someone to come forward," she wrote.

She acknowledged that a person with information might feel frightened, conflicted, or reluctant to implicate someone they love. Savannah stressed that tips can be provided anonymously and that a reward remains available. "There is a way out – to tell what you know. You can do so anonymously. The reward is available. There is a way to end this situation and do the right thing," she said.

Nancy Guthrie Ransom Notes Released After 6 Months

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released the full contents of two communications on Friday, July 31. The first, sent Feb. 2, demanded $4 million in bitcoin and threatened to raise the amount to $6 million if an initial deadline passed. A second message arrived four days later and claimed Nancy had died soon after being taken. It also alleged that she had been buried outdoors.

Authorities have not verified those claims, Nancy has not been found, and no arrests have been made. The Associated Press reported that investigators released the notes, hoping someone would recognize the writer’s language.

The authenticity of the communications remains contested. Reuters reported July 1 that federal investigators did not believe the notes were genuine, citing an FBI official and another law enforcement source.

Family Will Not Stop Searching for Nancy Guthrie

Nancy, 84, was last seen Jan. 31 after relatives dropped her off at her Tucson home. Investigators believe she was taken early the next morning. Savannah also asked the public to remember that a real family is living through the case. "If you are following this story for entertainment or for profit, you are not on her side – you are part of the harm perpetrated against her," she wrote.

Despite six months of uncertainty, Savannah said her family remains guided by faith. "We will always be hoping and praying and believing in the best of our world – in spite of circumstance. This is what our faith makes possible," she wrote. "Please. Bring her home."

Geoffrey Britton turns 83 today. Britton was the drummer for Wings, the British rock band formed by Paul McCartney and his wife, Linda McCartney. Britton joined Wings in 1974. However, he only spent a few months performing with them before he was fired by Paul and Linda in 1975.

In an interview for the Wings Fan Club newsletter in 1974, Britton spoke about his audition for the band, revealing that he ended up on a short list of five people. “I had a 20% chance,” he said. “Then the office rang to say they’d like me to come back, I was on a shortlist of two. Unfortunately, the turnover rate for drummers in the band was quite high. According to The McCartney Legacy: Volume 2, when Britton was let go, he said, “Paul and Linda turned up and gave me the sack, as yesterday’s track hadn’t gone right. I wasn’t knocking them out. It was just based on that. Great guy, etc. At first, Paul wants me to move out the same day, then realized that’s mean and I can stay and sort things out.”

McCartney Productions Ltd also issued a press release around that time that said, “The parting is amicable. Geoff wants to work on his own project. It is a film about karate, and he hopes to start shooting it at the end of March. He is writing the musical score, which will be percussion-based. The film will be shot abroad, and Geoff’s involvement will be extensive. It was an opportunity he didn’t want to turn down, especially as it could open up a completely new career for him. Sid Wilson has reportedly received a pink slip and been permanently "kicked out" of Slipknot, according to TMZ, in a move that has stunned fans.

However, underneath those catchy beats and guest Cheryl Lynn’s powerhouse vocals lay a surprisingly simple trick. Toto took their song title, a classic children's rhyme, and repeated it 18 times, until listeners couldn't help but sing along.

"Georgy Porgy" was written by Toto's David Paich. The song was included on their self-titled debut album in 1978.

The song is so beloved by Toto fans that it was named among one of their Top 10 songs by the website Classic Rock History. The site ranked it at No. 7, calling it "captivating" and an "addictive pleasure" to listen to.

Genius Lyrics reprinted the song's highly repetitive words. Upon counting the number of times the song's title is said throughout, it is around 18.

Just before Toto's hit brought her further success, Lynn scored a massive hit with the disco song "Got to Be Real." It reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In a 1988 interview with Modern Drummer, Toto's Jeff Porcaro discussed developing the groove for "Georgy Porgy." He explained, "It's imitating Paul Humphrey heavily; it's imitating Earl Palmer very heavily."

He concluded, "When it comes to that groove, my biggest influences were Paul Humphrey, Ed Greene, Earl Palmer, and the godfather of that 16th-note groove, James Gadson. That 'Georgy Porgy' groove I owe to them."

Even if you aren't a die-hard Toto fan, you’ve almost certainly sung along to "Georgy Porgy" at some point without even realizing who sang it. While it wasn't their highest-charting track at the time, it quickly became a beloved radio favorite across both pop and R&B stations, proving the band had a rare gift for making songs that felt instantly familiar.

After "Georgy Porgy's" success, Toto kept the hits coming. They ultimately set the stage for the monster pop anthems that would define their career in the early 1980s.

However, by the time 1982 arrived, Toto was practically everywhere. Their smash album Toto IV gave fans radio classics like "Rosanna" and the unforgettable mega-hit "Africa," making the band a household name overnight.

“Time Has Come Today” was a 1966 rock hit released by the Chambers Brothers. The song spent five weeks at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, just missing out on the top ten, but it is now considered a landmark rock song of the era.

The Chambers Brothers consisted of four brothers. “Time Has Come Today” was written by two of them, Joe and Willie. According to SongFacts, they were inspired by one of the brothers taking LSD while sitting in on a class at UCLA.

In an interview with Psychedelic Science, Willie spoke about the creation of the song. “[Joe] had written about a two-and-a-half minute song. 'The Time Has Come Today.' I was lying in my bed one night in our band house, and all of a sudden I got this… Something came over me, and it said, and it says, 'Take the song to this part and just stay right there on that key and do some psychedelics.'"

He continued, "I went and got all my brothers, 'Hey man, let’s go down in the studio.' We had a two-story band house, and we had a basement. We had a rehearsal studio in the basement. We could play music 24 hours a day, and we couldn’t disturb anybody ’cause we in the basement. I went and knocked everybody up and said, 'Get up! We gotta go into the studio. I got an idea.'  I said, 'This is gonna be our contribution to psychedelic music.' And I turned the two-and-a-half minute 'Time Has Come Today' song into 11 minutes and some seconds.”

Willie also spoke about coining a new term in their hit song. “We used the phrase ‘psychedelicize,” he explained. “That was a word I never heard before. I don’t know where it came from. But my brother was writing that song, and he got to that point. He said, 'I’ve been loved and put aside, crushed by tumbing tides, and my soul has been…,' He couldn’t finish it. And I said, 'psychedelicized.' And he says, I can’t say that. What, you know, because of the church and God and religion, you can’t be messing around with religion and your soul and all this kinda stuff." However, they could not come up with any other words, so they stuck with the term.

Some of the band's other popular songs include their cover of “In the Midnight Hour” and “Love, Peace and Happiness.” The group disbanded in 1972 after completing an unreleased album.

Fred Coury says he's ready to get Cinderella back on the road, and he's not the only one.

The drummer opened up about a possible reunion during an appearance on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk. Coury explained that after years of working as a session musician, he's eager to perform live again, and he says bassist Eric Brittingham feels the same way.

The holdup, according to Coury, comes down to one person: singer Tom Keifer. Coury said he and Brittingham are ready to reunite "when Tom says, let's do it."

Cinderella hasn't toured since a 2014 stop on the Monsters of Rock Cruise, and Coury pointed out that time isn't on the band's side. He noted that everyone is getting older, and that Keifer's recent setback added urgency to the conversation. Keifer canceled his solo tour dates after suffering a severe vocal muscle strain that cost him his voice.

Coury made clear the band never officially broke up, just went quiet. He said he'd tour again regardless, telling Trunk he'd go out with someone else if a Cinderella reunion doesn't happen.

Keifer has kept busy fronting his own solo band and released two studio albums during the 2010s. Brittingham spent time with the supergroup Devil City Angels before joining Bret Michaels' band. Guitarist Jeff LaBar died in 2021 at age 58, leaving the band's classic lineup incomplete.

Keifer previously addressed the band's status back in 2016, revealing that unresolved internal issues dating back years came to a head in 2012, prompting the band to step back until things were resolved.

Coury seems optimistic that a reunion could still happen, even if it's brief. He said Keifer is happy with his solo band and doesn't want to disrupt that, but suggested a one-time Cinderella run wouldn't get in the way. Whether that happens still depends on Keifer taking the first step.

The Weeknd made sure fans in Germany knew exactly who helped shape his sound.

Before launching into "Odd Look," his 2013 collaboration with French electronic producer Kavinsky, The Weeknd paused to explain just how much the artist has influenced his own music.

This Pro Makeup Artist's Genius Eyeliner Trick: Microlining

Myles recommends "microlining" your eyes at the lash roots. "Instead of trying to draw one continuous line across your entire upper lid ... you gently nestle small micro-dots or micro-strokes directly into the gaps between your upper eyelash roots," she tells Parade.

Myles adds that the resulting effect "creates the illusion of a full, dense lash line without taking up any visible eyelid space."

And she explains, "This is especially useful for hooded eyes, monolids or small eyelids where traditional liner eats up all the mobile lid area."

How To Recreate Eyeliner Microlining at Home

Here's the makeup artist's step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Prep

Before you start anything, "ensure your eyelid and lash root area are dry and oil-free," says Myles.

Step 2: Use the right product

"To master microlining without creating messy smudges, precision is everything," says Myles. She recommends using an ultra-fine felt-tip liner like the MOIRA 24HR Pro Tip Ink Liner for better control.

Step 3: Anchor your hand

"Rest your elbow on a flat surface like a table and place your pinky finger against your cheek for stability," Myles says.

Step 4: Place dots and connect them

"Gently press the fine felt tip into the root space between lashes along the outer two-thirds of your eye," says Myles, adding that you can use a handheld mirror at chest level while looking down for added visibility. Then you can "gently flick the tip along the roots to merge the dots into a seamless, soft definition line."

How To Make Eyeliner Stay on Without Smudging or Fading

Myles says there's a few things you can do to prevent your eyeliner from migrating down your face or transferring into your eye crease. She recommends using an eye primer or even a matte concealer "from lash line to brow bone before applying any liner."

She adds that you can also set your liner with a similar matte eyeshadow color. "The powder
absorbs moisture and sets the pigment in place," she says, explaining that you can also use translucent setting powder under our lower lashes to prevent "natural facial oils from breaking down the liner underneath your eye."

"If putting liner in the lower waterline, dry the area first using a clean cotton swab before applying waterproof liner," she continues.

And if you're doing a wing with your liner, she recommends keeping "a pointed cotton swab dipped in micellar water or a bit of concealer nearby to crisp up winged tips."

How To Apply Eyeliner for Bigger-Looking Eyes

Myles says if you're looking "to open up the eye area visually," there are several eyeliner approaches you can take.

"Never apply dark black liner all the way along your bottom waterline, as this shrinks the appearance of the eye," she says, adding that you can instead use a nude or pale pink liner inside your lower waterline and then "place a tiny pop of champagne or pearl eyeshadow at the inner tear duct to draw light inward."

She says you should also start your top eyeliner at about the mid-pupil, sharing, "Keeping the inner third of the lid clean keeps the eye wide open."

And Myles adds that a wing pointing towards the tail of your eyebrow instead of straight sideways also helps give the eye a larger appearance.

Myles says it's important to tailor your liner style to your eye shape. If you have hooded eyes she warns that "a thick graphic wing ... can hide beneath the skin fold when looking straight ahead." She recommends flicking the eyeliner around the natural fold so that it can stay visible.

2. Using the wrong formula

"Liquid liner can easily smudge on hooded lids if it doesn't dry completely before you open your eye. Gel or quick-drying waterproof liquid liners work much better," she tells Parade.

3. Being heavy-handed

Myles says, "Encasing the entire eye in thick dark liner pulls the eye downward and makes it look smaller."

4. Leaving gaps

"Leaving a line of skin visible between your eyeliner and your lashes looks incomplete. Make sure to stamp liner right into the lash roots," she explains.

5. Pulling your eye

"Pulling your outer corner skin taut while drawing a wing distorts the natural shape," says Myles. "When you release the skin, the line warps into a step-like shape."

She adds that you should always be applying your eyeliner when your eyes are relaxed and open.
