If the hardest part of your morning routine is putting together a cohesive outfit, you may want to build a capsule wardrobe. It should be filled with versatile and timeless pieces so that you can effortlessly create various ensembles in just seconds. A basic long-sleeve top can go a long way in a capsule wardrobe. You can dress it up or down, and wear it alone or layer it under other pieces. This Gayhay Basic Long-Sleeve Shirt at Amazon is a prime example, and you can currently score it on sale for less than $10 for a limited time.

Normally retailing for $13, which is already an amazing deal, this basic long-sleeve is now marked down to as low as $7. Prices slightly vary depending on size and color. Most are on sale between $7 and $10, with a select few going up to $12. It’s available in 18 colors, including neutrals, pastels, vibrant tones, and moody hues. It offers ample coverage yet has a lightweight feel, preventing you from overheating. You can wear it alone or easily layer pieces over it when the temperature starts to drop.

Boasting a slim fit, this top will comfortably hug your body to create a sleek silhouette. However, shoppers noted that this top has a lot of stretch, which will keep you from feeling restricted. If you prefer a looser fit, you can always size up.

The style of this top is timeless, featuring a classic crew neckline. The hem length strikes the perfect balance, ending right below the waist. You’ll be able to pair it with both high-rise and low-rise bottoms.

This shirt is the definition of versatility. Depending on how you style the top, you can wear it for casual occasions, dressy events, and anything in between. Sam’s Club Shoppers Love This 10-Piece Kitchen Set So Much They’re Calling It a ‘Game Changer’

Why don't all mixing bowls come with lids? It feels like such an obvious upgrade, and yet somehow it's still not the standard. If I'm whipping up pancake batter the night before (purely in the name of not waking up earlier than necessary), I'd really prefer not to slide a wide-open bowl into the fridge and hope for the best. And sure, I could reach for plastic wrap or aluminum foil, but that always feels a little wasteful, and never quite as secure as an actual lid.

But it isn't just about prep. It's the after, too. The moment when dinner's over, and there are leftovers sitting right there in the serving bowl. Why am I transferring them into a separate container, creating even more dishes for my future self? A simple lid would solve all of this.

And yes, mixing bowls with lids do exist—but they're weirdly not the norm. You have to hunt for them, which feels unnecessary for something so practical. It's one of those small kitchen upgrades that makes a big difference, and once you think about it, you can't really unthink it, which is why I was thrilled to find this Member's Mark 10-Piece Prep and Mix Bowl Set at Sam's Club.

You get five bowls in different sizes—from really small to extra large—and each one comes with a lid. Whether you're chopping, mixing, marinating or just trying to stash leftovers without creating a pile of extra containers, it covers a lot of ground.

The lids are flexible but secure, so you can actually move things in and out of the fridge (or take a dish to a friend's place) without worrying about spills. And when you're done, everything nests neatly together, which is a small but very real win if your cabinets are already doing the most.

Whether you choose from the blue, gray or green, Sam's Club shoppers are loving this 10-piece mixing bowl set.

"These bowls are fantastic," wrote a customer in their review. "The size is different from other brands. They are very deep and the lids close great. We have used them just about every day! They are dishwasher safe and very durable. I love the unique size and shape of them. They can hold a lot and the way they stack inside each other is a game changer. Saves so much space!"

Plus, for just under $17, you really can't beat this deal for such a versatile and functional item. So grab one (or even two) sets the next time you're at Sam's.

New Report Uncovers Red Flags for the Nation's 401(k)s and IRAs

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 6:46pm

Financial powerhouse Fidelity has released its 2026 State of Retirement Planning Report. According to its findings, there are major red flags about how Americans feel about their retirement preparedness, highlighting a growing generational divide over what the future holds.

Unfortunately, the report appears to be a bit of a red flag about how financially stable many people feel and the economy, potentially hinting at growing uneasiness about money.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

No Generation is 100 Percent Confident About Retirement Prospects

The first thing to note about Fidelity's new report is how different generations feel about their retirement prospects. For example, 23 percent of Gen Z says they are confident they will be able to retire when and how they want. Meanwhile, 20 percent of Millennials and 36 percent of Gen X feel the same way. Oddly enough, 29 percent of Boomers say they aren't confident in their retirement prospects, despite the fact that the vast majority are already near or past retirement age.

Fidelity notes that it seems younger generations have greater confidence in their prospects than those closer to retirement age, raising questions about whether the younger generation is truly better prepared, or whether inflation is causing more retirees to worry about how their golden years will look. That may also be an indication that the nation's 401(k)s and IRAs aren't as robust as they once were, especially amid increased stock market volatility.

More People Are Worried About Rising Costs

Fidelity also examined how the different generations viewed the rising cost of living. Here, the age groups were almost entirely in lockstep, with each group saying that nearly half of their focus was on saving money to keep up with the cost of living.

That's right in line with the reason many people cited when it came to why they weren't confident in their ability to retire on their own terms, with 36 percent of Gen Z, 42 percent of Millennials, and 47 percent of Gen X saying they didn't think they'd be able to afford to retire.

More Americans are Expecting to 'Transition' Into Retirement

It used to be that you'd have your last day of work, everyone would gather around for some cake, and then you'd head home, never to return to work again. However, the Fidelity report states that 6 in 10 Americans plan to view their retirement more as a transition than a full stoppage. That includes the following breakdown:

  • 34 percent of those surveyed said they plan to reduce their hours instead of fully retiring
  • 30 percent say they plan to take on fewer work responsibilities
  • 18 percent plan to transition to a freelance or gig work type job
  • 32 percent say they will continue working as normal until they can retire

With so many working Americans deeply concerned about rising prices on everyday essentials, it's no surprise that fewer people view retirement as a "sure thing" anymore. While younger generations definitely feel more optimistic about the future, those getting closer to retirement age are likely starting to dip into their savings to cover rising costs and are more worried about what will happen once their earnings stop and prices continue to soar.

1984 Hit Breakup Anthem Deemed the 'Perfect Pop Song'

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 6:39pm

It's no mystery why some of the biggest hits in pop music history have been about lost love and relationship regrets...after all, lots of people have plenty of personal experience in the heartbreak department. That's why Chicago's 1984 hit "Hard Habit to Break" is still a fan-favorite over 40 years after it first hit the airwaves.

Released as the second single from the album Chicago 17, "Hard Habit to Break" tells the story of a man who realizes how much he loved a woman "just a little too late" and doesn't know how to go on living without her:

"Now being without you / Takes a lot of getting used to / Should learn to live with it / But I don't want to / Being without you / It's all a big mistake / Instead of getting easier / It's the hardest thing to take / I'm addicted to you, babe / You're a hard habit to break"

Peter Cetera and Bill Champlin share lead vocal duties on the track, delivering what music journalist Adam Reacher — otherwise known as The Professor of Rock — called "One of the most power-packed vocal duos of all time." Reacher, who also praised "Hard Habit to Break" as the "perfect pop song" and an "80s pocket symphony."

While Chicago wrote the majority of their own songs, outside writers Steve Kipner and Jon Parker penned "Hard Habit to Break" (Kipner also wrote "Physical" and "Genie in a Bottle," in addition to music for game shows like Family Feud).

As Champlin revealed in an interview with Reacher, Kipner still hadn't written a second verse to the song before they started recording.

Related: 1984 No. 1 Breakup Anthem Inspired by Real-Life Heartbreak Is Still Making Us Cry 42 Years Later

"Before we recorded, I called him up and said, 'Can we get a second verse?'" Champlin recalled.

"He says, 'Yeah, gimme a minute.' I said, 'No, you can call me back,' and he said, 'Just give me a minute.' One minute later, here it is! That's how good Steve is," he quipped.

Not bad for a song that went to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 (it was held back from the top spot by Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen” and Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You."

"Hard Habit to Break" also earned Chicago Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, and Best Vocal Arrangement, winning the award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Heavy Law Enforcement Presence Near Savannah's Mom's Home Explained

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 6:28pm

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing more than 10 weeks after she was abducted from Tucson, Ariz.—and local residents likely observed a heavy law enforcement presence near the 84-year-old's home in recent days. But why?

The answer is actually twofold.

On Thursday, April 16, a woman named Nancy Radakovich, 82, went missing near River Road and Campbell Avenue, KOLD reported. Radakovich left the area at roughly 3:40 p.m. and thankfully, was found before 8 p.m. that same day.

As law enforcement was searching for her, there was an increased police presence in the Via Entrada area—less than 2 miles from Guthrie's home. It was not related to Savannah's mom's case, despite KOLD receiving several questions about the law enforcement in the vicinity.

Update: Nancy has been located. https://t.co/bS6yuRL1J3 pic.twitter.com/pVX7Xz5ekK

Additionally, those who live in or around Guthrie's Catalina Foothills neighborhood might notice additional law enforcement patrols. That's because the Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) recently attended a homeowners' association meeting, where neighbors complained about a YouTuber "harassing" residents, KVOA reported.

The PCSD also confirmed that it received similar complaints from Nancy's other daughter, Annie Guthrie, who lives nearby. In response, the department increased patrols in both neighborhoods.

Nancy was last seen at her Tucson home on the evening of Jan. 31 before her family reported her missing on Feb. 1. As of writing, no suspect has been named in the case. The PCSD and the FBI continue to investigate, and Savannah has even offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy's recovery.

On April 6, Savannah returned to Today for the first time since her mother's kidnapping, although she was missing from the NBC morning show on Friday, April 17.

1940 Classic Film Named No. 1 Feel-Good Movie of All Time

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 6:22pm

Movie lovers in search of a feel-good film should look no further than The Philadelphia Story.

The 1940 romantic comedy is ranked at No. 1 on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of 170 Great Feel-Good Movies. To assemble the collection of films, the website’s staff posed the question, “What are the movies that, without fail, leave us feeling better than we did before we pushed play?” From there, the selected films were ranked by their Tomatometer scores, which are based on professional critic reviews.

The Philadelphia Story landed at the top of the list with its 100 percent fresh rating. With 104 critic reviews aggregated on Rotten Tomatoes, the website notes, “Offering a wonderfully witty script, spotless direction from George Cukor and typically excellent lead performances, The Philadelphia Story is an unqualified classic.”

As for fans’ opinions of the movie, it has received more than 25,000 reviews on the website, earning a 92 percent Popcornmeter rating.

The film centers around Philadelphia socialite Tracy, who is preparing to marry the wealthy George following her split from husband Dexter. Amid her impending wedding to George, she reconnects with Dexter and crosses paths with tabloid reporter Mike, leading her to have complicated feelings about all three men as she tries to figure out which one she truly loves.

The Philadelphia Story is based on Philip Barry’s 1939 Broadway play of the same name, in which Hepburn also portrayed the lead role. After securing the film rights, Hepburn staged her big-screen comeback via the adaptation after a series of box office failures.

The movie received six Academy Award nominations, with wins for Best Actor for Stewart and Best Writing (Screenplay) for Donald Ogden Stewart at the 13th Oscars in 1941. The film’s other nods included Outstanding Production (a category which is now known as Best Picture), Best Director for Cukor, Best Actress for Hepburn and Best Supporting Actress for Hussey.

Fifty-five years after its release, The Philadelphia Story was inducted into the National Film Registry by the National Film Preservation Board in 1995.

The legacy of The Philadelphia Story expands beyond the film itself. MGM later remade the movie as a musical titled High Society in 1956, with Bing Crosby as Dexter, Grace Kelly as Tracy and Frank Sinatra as Mike. It became one of the highest-grossing films of the year and went on to receive two Academy Award nominations of its own.

In 1980, The Philadelphia Story returned to Broadway in a revival starring Blythe Danner (Tracy), Frank Converse (Dexter), Edward Herrmann (Mike), Mary Louise Wilson (Liz) and Cynthia Nixon (Dinah). The then-14-year-old Nixon received a Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut performance.

Best-Selling Author’s Classic Inspired by John Lennon Ranked in ‘Best Books Ever’

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 6:18pm

Stephen King
is a maestro of horror fiction. He’s also a notorious music fan and guitarist.

In his memoir On Writing, King shares that he creates a “wall of sound” while working, blasting whole albums to stay in his creative-flow bubble. One of his favorites that is often cited is Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde, whose influence seeps into novels like Carrie, The Stand, and Christine.

In an unexpected twist, King has also drawn inspiration from John Lennon while writing what is widely regarded as his horror masterpiece, The Shining. The story of a recovering alcoholic and family man with a killer case of cabin fever borrows its title from Lennon’s optimism-infused lyric “We all shine on,” from the 1970 single “Instant Karma!”

According to Far Out Magazine, King was moved by the phrase and repurposed it as both the novel’s title and the supernatural motif used by Jack Torrance's son, Danny, subverting Lennon’s message of love and unity into something far more sinister. As for Lennon’s themes of peace and love, they don’t quite survive the isolation of the haunted Overlook Hotel.

The Lennon connection appears again in King’s sequel novel, The Shining: Doctor Sleep, in which references to The Beatles surface in subtle ways, reinforcing what the magazine describes as Lennon’s unexpected role as a creative influence in the series.

Originally published 1977, The Shining went on to become one of King’s defining works, frequently ranked among the greatest novels ever written across lists from Time, Forbes, Goodreads. Not to mention inspired the late visionary auteur Stanley Kubrick to make one of the greatest films of all time.

Trader Joe's $4 Find Has Returned — Why Fans Obsess Over the Easy Dinner

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 5:54pm

It's always satisfying when you find a hearty dish at Trader Joe's that costs less than $5.

Typically around this time of the year, a fan-favorite ravioli returns to shelves of the popular grocer. Customers are currently obsessing over the Sweet Corn, Burrata, & Basil Ravioli, which is now available at Trader Joe's locations, Allrecipes reports, for just $3.99.

"For this seasonal pasta selection, we wanted to focus on three flavors that evoke the very best of summer cuisine: fresh kernels of sweet corn, fresh cheese (creamy burrata and ricotta), and delicately savory and herby basil," the product's online description reads.

It continues, "Together, along with a supportive mix of Cheddar, Parmesan, and bread crumbs, these ingredients combine to create one delightfully flavorful filling that’s then packed into pockets of yellow-striped semolina pasta to create Trader Joe’s Sweet Corn, Burrata, & Basil Ravioli. Once cooked, each Ravioli is tender and cheesy, with a satisfying al dente texture that’s smartly accentuated by the pop of the whole, sweet corn kernels."

Check out a social media post below from this time of the year in 2025, when the ravioli had also returned to the popular chain's locations across the U.S.

Fans voiced their support for the $4 find in the post's comments section at the time. "I almost ate the entire package the other day," wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "I always buy like 4 when I see them!"

To prepare, simply place the ravioli in boiling water, reduce to a simmer and cook for five to six minutes. Plate it with a drizzle of your favorite olive oil, add a generous sprinkling of shaved or grated Parmesan, and serve it alongside a summery salad, per the online product description. And feel free to pair with it a nice, citrusy white wine.

To make it a complete entrée, Allrecipes suggests adding Rao's signature pasta sauce to the ravioli — for perhaps the "easiest two-ingredient dinner ever."

'90s Heavy Metal Band Reacts to Exciting Announcement

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 5:44pm

Metallica is giving credit where it's due.

The American rock band shared that their tour accountant, Chris Risner, was awarded the Road Warrior of the Year award at the 37th Annual Pollstar Awards in Hollywood on Wednesday evening. Risner has worked with Metallica for almost 18 years and is working with them during their ongoing M72 World Tour.

A tour accountant's job is to manage the entire financial operation of a concert tour, ensuring profitability by budgeting, tracking expenses and settling nightly show revenue with venue promoters.

In addition, Metallica won the Rock Tour of the Year award, which they acknowledged that "wouldn’t be the case without the #MetallicaFamily pouring into stadiums night after night."

"It was a great honor to have Lars, on behalf of Metallica, present our Tour Accountant, Chris Risner, with the 'Road Warrior of the Year' award," the band wrote as their Instagram caption. "In addition to everything you’d expect from someone in that role, Risner is also hugely instrumental in curating our Weekend Takeover Events and was the brains behind our #BleedingMe partnership with the American Red Cross. Congrats, Chris, on this well-deserved award!"

The Pollstar Awards are peer-voted honors recognizing excellence in the live entertainment industry, covering artists, tours, venues and industry professionals.

Throughout the tour, Metallica has started a blood drive to support the American Red Cross, which has led to almost 40,000 units of blood donated. According to Pollstar, Risner heavily drove this idea after seeing a Red Cross commercial and pitched it to the band, which they loved. To encourage donations, fans had opportunities to win exclusive goodies like T-shirts and even a custom guitar.

"It was amazing to see so many folks that were giving for altruistic reasons, but also just so happy to wear their fandom of Metallica while identifying as a blood donor at the same time, it was super special," says Darren Irby, a representative for the American Red Cross who partnered with Metallica. “One of the things we were really surprised by was that it was young people that were really motivated. They really leaned into wanting to do good and wanting to do that through Metallica."

In addition, Metallica has won 11 Grammy Awards, with the title track of their latest album winning Best Metal Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The current lineup includes Hetfield, Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo.

To support 72 Seasons, Metallica is currently on their M72 World Tour, which kicked off on April 27, 2023, in Amsterdam. They have had multiple legs in Europe and North America over the past three years, and the last leg will start on May 9 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. 2005 Hit Film Ranked Among 'Greatest Romantic Movies of All Time'

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 5:34pm

Heath Ledger andJake Gyllenhaal captivated both audiences and critics with their powerful performances in the 2005 neo-Western romantic drama. Directed by Ang Lee, the film dominated awards season, earned widespread acclaim, and is now regarded as one of the greatest romantic films ever made.

Brokeback Mountain is based on a short story by Annie Proulx, first published in 1997, which tells the poignant and complex love story at the heart of the film. Ledger and Gyllenhaal played the roles of cowboys, Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, as the film follows their story through the American West from 1963 to 1983.

The film starts in Wyoming in 1963 as the two cowboys are hired to herd sheep for the summer on Brokeback Mountain. One night, the two engage in sexual intercourse before parting ways and moving on with their lives, marriages, and families. Over the course of several years, the two men continue to reconnect, forming a complicated bond amid the constraints of their separate lives.

Variety tagged the popular film at No. 8 on their list of the "greatest romantic movies" of all time. They call the film a "breathtaking" adaptation of Proulx's short story and praise Ledger's ability to turn his character into a "living Metaphor for a love that cannot speak its name."

"The film dramatizes how prejudice can worm its way into the very fabric of people’s lives; it also demonstrates that the myth of the straight-as-an-arrow American macho he-man is just that – a myth. At the same time, our yearning for Ennis and Jack to make a life for themselves becomes overwhelming in its heartbreak," they said.

Brokeback Mountain was a box office success, having made $178 million worldwide against its $14 million budget. While having lost the Oscar for Best Picture, it won for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score. It also won five awards at the Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture- Drama.

Despite its popularity among critics, the film wasn't without its controversy over its LGBTQ storyline. It became the subject of censorship and received criticism from conservative media outlets, as well as losing the Oscar for Best Picture to the 2004 film Crash. Some instead praised the film for its honest portrayal of a same-sex relationship, bringing greater visibility to LGBTQ stories in the mainstream cinema.

The Ledger and Gyllenhaal-led film has since been preserved by the Library of Congress. It has even been recalled by outlets as one of the best films of the 21st century.

This Iconic 1973 Shoe Became an Instant Fashion Staple—and You Can Still Shop It Today

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 5:09pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Many of the fashion staples that we take for granted today were once new and exciting when they first debuted. Shoes, in particular, have a way of gradually becoming critical wardrobe building blocks, and all the while, we begin to forget about their humble beginnings. As our Parade Rewindseries continues this month, we're focusing on all the biggest moments of the 1970s and highlighting the historical moments, culture and fashion that shaped the decade. Today, we're exploring the iconic 1973 shoe that became an instant fashion staple: Kork-Ease buffalo sandals.

If you've ever worn a pair of cork wedges, you probably didn't realize that the popular shoe style caused quite a stir when Kork-Ease released its buffalo sandal in the 1970s. The shoe made its debut two decades after the brand was founded in the 1950s. Today, you can still purchase Kork-Ease's signature shoe at a variety of retailers.

To learn more about the brand and the iconic shoe style, Parade spoke with Kork-Ease Creative Marketing Director Angela Kay. She walked us through the lasting impact the brand's buffalo sandal has had on the shoe company as a whole and the various ways it influenced the fashion industry at large.

When Did Kork-Ease First Launch?

Kork-Ease was first launched as a comfort shoe brand in 1953. That year, the brand created its original cork wedge comfort sandal.

"In the 1960's, the simplicity, comfort and organic look of Kork-Ease designs epitomized the earthy, natural outlook and optimistic spirit embraced by the youth culture during the decade of love," Kay shares.

Following its initial popularity, the brand "rested dormant in obscurity" in the '60s, per Kay, until it was "hijacked as a fashion item by the counter-culture youth movement in the early '70s."

"Success did not find the brand until nearly two decades later, when the 'flower children' discovered Kork-Ease and adopted it as their own fashion brand," Kay states. "The brand wasn’t as much about fashion as it was 'anti-fashion,' which reflected the rebellious mood of the times."

What Are Kork-Ease Buffalo Sandals?

Around 20 years after Kork-Ease first debuted, the company released the buffalo sandal: platform wedges with thick leather crisscross straps.

And even though it has taken various forms throughout the decades, it has a reputation that hasn't waned.

"The iconic quarter-strap wedge—a pale beige, vegetable-tanned leather fresh out of the box—developed a deep, rich patina after several wears, giving the leather character and depth," Kay explains.

Patina is what forms on leather over the years, which is a tell-tale sign of high-quality leather.

"The patina feature was one of the ways the shoes could be identified as authentic," Kay tells Parade. "It gave the shoes character and was part of the brand experience."

What Was the Initial Response to Kork-Ease Buffalo Sandals?

As WWD has reported, thanks to the buffalo sandal, "one of the hottest shoe brands during the disco era was Kork-Ease."

Kay echoes that the buffalo sandal was a true trendsetter for its time.

"The sandal spawned numerous wannabees, as brands such as Baretraps, Impo and Famolare began to introduce similar styles," she tells Parade.

She notes that the brand's Bette buffalo sandal was the "sky-high wedge that put Kork-Ease on the map."

"We call it 'the shoe that stood in line at Studio 54.' Bette was an iconic fashion symbol of 1970s New York City," she states.

In 2020, Kork-Ease collaborated with Anthropologie to launch a limited-edition collection of the Bette sandal in four colors. Today, Bette is no longer produced, but similar buffalo sandal varieties are still sold by Kork-Ease.

The Lasting Impact of This Footwear Style

Like almost all trends, the buffalo sandal had its heyday, then its popularity faded.

"As quickly as the fad emerged, it disappeared," Kay shares. "Blame it on disco, or simply a shift in the fashion scene. The fact of the matter is the Kork-Ease craze died, and the entire lifecycle of the brand in the '70s lasted a total of about two and a half years, not including the 15 years it lay dormant as a comfort brand."

However, buffalo sandals have had a lasting impact on wedge trends.

"Our original looks spawned numerous other brands to emulate the trend and introduce similar styles," she points out. "It’s hard to speculate exactly who drew inspiration from these iconic looks, but today, the crisscross upper and posted ankle strap design can be found in nearly every footwear brand’s sandal offering."

In 1973, the buffalo sandal also joined the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's "Landmark Shoe Collection," which featured shoes dating back to the 14th century.

Where To Shop Kork-Ease Sandals in 2026

In 2006, HH Brown Shoe Co. acquired Kork-Ease. In 2026, Kork-Ease sells a collection of sandals, shoes and boots.

"Today, Kork-Ease designs reflect the origins of its past, combining clean uppers with unique outsole designs," Kay states. "Kork-Ease is specifically designed in a way that is relevant to the modern woman’s fashion sensibilities. Kork-Ease designers include iconic attributes such as cork, natural leather and suede season after season."

Kork-Ease still sells several buffalo sandal varieties on its website, including the Ava—a medium height wedge—and Myrna, the lowest wedge version.

1992's 'FernGully: The Last Rainforest' Set to Receive Unexpected Remake

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 5:03pm

Just over 30 years since its initial release to theaters, 1992's cult classic fantasy film FernGully: The Last Rainforest might soon see the live-action remake most viewers probably would have ever expected to see.

According to Deadline, producers at Amazon MGM Studios are moving forward with plans to adapt FernGully into a live-action remake. Right now, filmmaker Marielle Heller is attached to write and direct, while it's not yet known which stars might appear in the surprising remake.

As fans of the original version of the film might recall, FernGully: The Last Rainforest acted as an animated musical fantasy film that saw a group of forest-dwelling fairies attempting to save their home from a sentient pollution spirit bent on destroying it.

Starring Robin Williams, Samantha Mathis, Christian Slater and Tim Curry, the film was well-received upon its initial release in 1992, with many critics praising the timely environmental themes at the heart of the animated epic. However, the movie failed to make a lasting impression at the box office, grossing a mere $32.7 million against a budget of $24 million.

Nevertheless, FernGully has become one of the most popular children's movies of the 1990s, with many seeing it as a welcome addition to the late Williams' filmography.

"The animators did a lot of their sketches on location in the rain forest, and the visuals are very pleasing," offered celebrated movie critic Roger Ebert. "The story tells a useful lesson, the jungle inhabitants are amusing, and although the movie is not a masterpiece it’s pleasant to watch for its humor and sweetness."

In the years following the original movie's release, FernGully was followed by a straight-to-DVD 1998 sequel, FernGully 2: The Magical Rescue. However, as with most straight-to-DVD continuations, none of the original cast chose to reprise their roles for the sequel.

2003 Hit Film Ranked the 'Greatest Blockbuster Movie' of the Last 50 Years

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 4:31pm

Since 1976, Hollywood has released some incredible blockbusters. The publication Collider recently took on the nearly impossible task to narrow down the "10 greatest blockbuster movies of the last 50 years." The ranking featured beloved films like The Matrix from 1999, 1991'sTerminator 2: Judgment Day, 2008's The Dark Knight, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrialfrom 1982, and Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back from 1980.

2003's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, secured the ranking of the number one greatest blockbuster film released after 1976. The publication reported that the third film in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings franchise took home the title because it's a genuinely good film and grossed a total of $1,118,887,224 worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' Took Home the Oscar for Best Picture in 2004

Not only did The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King sell out theaters, but it's also critically acclaimed. The film, which has a rating of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, received the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 76th Oscars in 2004. The film beat out Lost and Translation, Seabiscuit, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Mystic River.

During his acceptance speech, Jackson, who also took home the Academy Award for Best Director for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, noted that it was quite a feat for a fantasy film to win the big award.

"This is just unbelievable. And I'm so honored and actually relieved that the Academy and the members of the Academy that supported us, that they've seen past the trolls and the wizards and the Hobbits and a recognizing fantasy this year. Fantasy is an f-word that hopefully the five-second delay won't do anything with," quipped the New Zealand director while on stage.

These Are the 3 Most Difficult Birth Months To Get Over

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 4:27pm

Some people leave a lasting impression, but certain birth months seem to carry extra emotional weight when it comes to moving on. Whether due to their personality traits, intensity, or the way they connect with others, relationships associated with these months often linger long after they've ended. Here are three of the most difficult birth months to get over, along with the reasons why they tend to stay in your heart longer than expected. Sometimes, those feelings take time to truly release.

Which Birth Months Are Most Difficult to Get Over?

Check for your birth month. Disregard your birth date.

March

People born in March often possess a dreamy and deeply emotional nature, making them truly unforgettable. They tend to form connections that feel almost otherworldly, drawing you into a space where vulnerability and imagination intertwine. Being around them makes everything feel more meaningful, even the smallest moments, which is why it can be so difficult to let go. It’s not just the person you miss; it’s the feeling they left behind. Whether you’re an intuitive Pisces or a bold Aries, March personalities leave emotional imprints that are hard to fade. After they’re gone, you may find yourself replaying cherished memories, wondering if you’ll ever experience that same depth of feeling again.

July

Those born in July often serve as the emotional anchors in relationships. They possess a nurturing and protective nature that makes you feel safe, seen, and deeply cared for. Being loved by someone born in this month can feel like coming home—warm, comforting, and steady. When your connection with their energy ends, it can leave a void that is difficult to fill. Their absence is not only emotional but also physical, making it feel as though something essential is missing from your life. Whether you are a sensitive Cancer or a radiant Leo, July-born individuals create irreplaceable bonds. Moving on from them often requires relearning how to feel secure on your own once again.

October

People born in October are known for their charm and emotional depth. They skillfully balance intellect and passion, making their relationships stimulating and intense. Being around them fosters a sense of constant evolution, where you find yourself learning, growing, and uncovering new aspects of your identity. This dynamic is quite addictive, which is why it's so hard to walk away. Even if the relationship ends, the mental and emotional connection often lingers. Whether you’re a magnetic Libra or an intense Scorpio, those born in October leave behind a sense of longing and fascination. Letting go isn’t just about moving on; it’s about untangling yourself from a transformative experience.

Beloved National Park in Tennessee Forced To Shut Down Areas Across the Park Due to the Amount of Bears

Fri, 04/17/2026 - 4:15pm

One of the most visited national parks, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is facing an unusual challenge this spring: too many bears.

Park officials have recently been forced to close multiple trails and backcountry areas due to increased bear activity, raising concerns for both visitor safety and wildlife protection. While seeing a black bear is often a highlight for visitors, the current amount highlights how quickly that excitement can turn into a serious safety issue.

Why Are Areas of the Park Closing?

According to the National Park Service, several trails, including Abrams Falls Trail and sections of backcountry routes, have been temporarily shut down due to bear activity.

These closures aren’t taken lightly. They’re put in place when bears begin frequenting specific areas or showing signs of aggressive or unpredictable behavior. In some cases, biologists actively monitor animals to better understand what’s driving the activity.

With over 12 million annual visitors, even a small increase in human-bear encounters can quickly become dangerous on both sides.

Why Are There So Many Bears Right Now?

The Smokies are actually home to one of the densest populations of black bears in the eastern United States, with about 1,900 bears living in the park.

So while bears aren’t new here, certain times of year bring increased visibility and risk. Spring and early summer are particularly active seasons. Bears are coming out of hibernation and searching aggressively for food after months of inactivity. This naturally brings them closer to trails, campsites, and roads.

But there’s a more concerning factor: human behavior.

When bears gain access to human food, whether from improperly stored camping supplies, trash, or from people feeding them, they begin to associate people with easy meals. Over time, they lose their natural fear of humans and can become bolder and sometimes more aggressive.

This growing issue has become serious enough that Tennessee recently passed new laws making it illegal to intentionally feed bears in certain areas.

How Bears Are Affecting the Park

The closures are just one visible impact. Increased bear activity can ripple across the entire park experience.

  • Trail access becomes limited, especially in popular hiking areas
  • Camping restrictions may increase, particularly in backcountry sites
  • Ranger presence rises, with more monitoring and enforcement
  • Visitor plans are disrupted, sometimes at the last minute
What To Do If You See a Bear

If you’re hiking or camping in the Smokies this season, knowing how to react to a bear encounter is essential. First, don’t panic. Most black bears are not aggressive and will avoid humans if given the chance.

Here’s what experts recommend:

  • Keep your distance: Stay at least 50 yards away
  • Do not run: Running can trigger a chase response
  • Make yourself look bigger: Raise your arms and stand your ground
  • Make noise: Speak calmly but firmly to let the bear know you’re human
  • Back away slowly: Give the bear space to leave

If a bear approaches you, remain calm and continue to back away. In very rare cases of aggressive behavior, standing your ground and making yourself appear larger is key.

For campers, proper food storage is critical. Use bear-proof containers and never leave food unattended, even for a few minutes.

The surge in bear activity at Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a reminder of what makes the park so special: it’s truly wild. As visitation continues to grow, so does the importance of respecting wildlife and following park guidelines. Seeing a bear in the Smokies can be an unforgettable experience, but only if it remains a safe one for everyone involved.
