Richard Thomas, the beloved actor best known as John-Boy Walton on The Waltons, is celebrating a milestone birthday. The actor turned 75 years old on June 13 and is now the same age as his TV grandpa, Will Geer, was when he filmed his final episode of the series nearly 50 years ago.

Thomas first played eldest Walton son and budding writer, John-Boy, in the holiday TV movie The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, which served as the pilot for The Waltons. The actor continued in the role on the CBS historical drama series for 124 episodes, from 1972 to 1978. Thomas won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Drama Series in 1973.

Thomas once told Closer Weekly that as a child, he was rejected for a commercial due to the large birthmark on his left cheek.

“When I was a boy, I auditioned for a Greyhound bus commercial and they took my dad aside and said, ‘He’s a nice boy, but unless you get that thing taken off his face, his chance for a career is very slim,’” the actor told the outlet. “So that just goes to show you what the industry knows!”

He also expressed gratitude for his life-changing role on The Waltons.

“It made me a star,” Thomas said. “It gave me the leverage that allowed me to work steadily my whole life. It will be ‘John-Boy Dies’ when I’m gone. That’s fine with me. There are worse ways to be remembered!”

After The Waltons ended, Thomas continued to work in TV as an actor and producer and as a performer on the Broadway stage.

And at 75, he has barely aged. In April, Thomas told Page Sixhe has never had any work done on his face, not even Botox, because as an actor, he wants to show expression.

“Come on!” he told the outlet. “[Foreheads] are one of the most expressive parts [of the face]. I don’t want to freeze any of it. I mean, it’s falling apart, but what the hell?”

I had the opportunity to try the Only Bean's sea salt, buffalo, and ranch flavors, and I came away impressed. Despite some reviewers describing the snacks as overly salty, I found the seasoning to be about right—enough to satisfy a craving for something salty without overwhelming the edamame's flavor.

The ranch flavor was perhaps the biggest surprise. As someone who typically isn't a fan of ranch-flavored snacks, I expected it to be my least favorite of the three. Instead, it ended up being one of the standouts.

The criticism that these snacks can be a little dry isn't entirely unfair, but it's also somewhat misleading. Because they're made from roasted edamame beans, eating them feels more akin to snacking on nuts than potato chips. They have a similar crunchy texture and the same slightly mouth-drying quality found in many roasted nuts and legumes.

What surprised me most, however, was how addictive they were. More than once, I grabbed a handful, put the bag away, and then found myself heading back for another. For me, they have the same "popcorn effect": it's easy to mindlessly nibble your way through a bowl while watching a movie or on a long drive. I did both.

The difference is that when I reached the bottom of the bag, I felt considerably less guilty than I would have after polishing off the same amount of potato chips or other snack foods. And that may be the strongest endorsement of all.

Neville says onboard credit can come from a cruise line promotion or as a perk for booking with a travel advisor. “My favorite is when clients book during a cruise line’s special offer for credit on the reservation,” explains Neville. “Because they booked with me, I can use my connections with the cruise line and our consortia to add even more onboard credits for them. I love being able to spoil my clients that way.”

Cruisers can use onboard credit for specialty dining, spa treatments, shore excursions or drinks by the pool. It adds an element of choice and flexibility, allowing guests to personalize their cruise experience and create memories that are meaningful to them.

It's also got a perfect score (100%) on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer and a 93% average on its Popcornmeter.

The documentarians interview those who believe her story and the skeptics convinced it was an elaborate hoax. It's the perfect binge for those who love docs that keep you guessing.

'Investigation Alien' (2024)

Investigation Alien is hosted by George Knapp, the journalist who basically put Area 51 on the map. He spends six episodes traveling the world to lay out 30 years of unexplainable evidence. Starring and narrated by a very young Dakota Fanning, Taken was nominated for four Emmys in 2003 and ultimately won for Outstanding Miniseries.

'Arrival' (2016)

Amy Adams masterfully plays a linguist the military brings in to communicate with alien visitors who've arrived on our planet. Essentially, the movie's premise centers on the exact question Disclosure Day asks: How would we actually handle first contact? If you love the Dunemovies, you'll definitely want to add this to your watchlist—Arrival was directed by Denis Villeneuve, who co-wrote, directed and produced the entire epic trilogy (Dune: Part Three is set for release on December 18, 2026).

'Project Blue Book' (2019–2020)

This History Channel series dramatizes the actual U.S. Air Force investigation of the same name, with Aidan Gillen playing the real-life astronomer who ran it. It also stars the incomparable Neal McDonough as General James Harding—the slick, calculating officer determined to keep the truth about UFOs buried—basically the human face of the exact cover-up Disclosure Day is about. (I have to say, McDonough has always been one of my favorite actors—and it's so crazy that he's known for playing villains because he's truly one of the nicest people I've ever met!)

'The Vast of Night' (2019)

I'd describe The Vast of Night as a hidden gem. With a 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, I'm shocked that it's not a more widely known film. The whole story unfolds over one night in 1950s New Mexico, where a teenage switchboard operator and a local radio DJ catch a strange frequency on the air and start pulling the thread. It's low-budget and slow-burn in the best possible way, with that same "OMG, what if this is real" dread Disclosure Day runs on.

'Contact' (1997)

Jodie Foster stars in this sci-fi classic, based on Carl Sagan's bestselling novel. In a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination, Foster plays a scientist who picks up a signal from deep space, then has to fight the government, the media and her own faith over what to do with it. But what sets Contact apart is that it's not just a government-cover-up story—it digs into deeper questions, like faith versus science and belief versus proof.

That tension makes it extremely compelling. Looking back, Sagan's story was ahead of its time because now—decades later—the question of what alien contact would mean for religion feels more urgent than ever. NASA even funded a Princeton program where two dozen theologians studied how the world's major faiths would react to discovering alien life—the same question Spielberg himself grapples with in Disclosure Day.

I mean, what's a better final selection than Steven Spielberg's 1977 classic? It's almost like Spielberg and Dreyfuss—fresh off terrifying everyone with Jaws just two years earlier—swapped the shark for aliens. The wonder, the lights, the everyday person swept up in something massive—it's the blueprint for everything that came after.

No, and when The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was first released in 2017, Taylor Jenkins Reid confirmed it herself on Goodreads.com. She responded to a fan question, writing, "There was no *one* Hollywood actress that Evelyn Hugo is based on."

The character is an amalgamation of various stars—including Liz Taylor, Rita Hayworth and Brigitte Bardot. "I will say, though, that the premise for the book came to me when I was reading Ava Gardner: The Secret Conversations by Ava Gardner and Peter Evans," she added. "I was very drawn to the idea of a classic film star spilling secrets, just like Ava did. So I made up a star of my own and went for it."

On June 1, 2026,Deadline broke the news that Anna Kendrick would be directing the highly anticipated film. While many know her from starring in the Pitch Perfect and Twilight franchises, the Oscar-nominated actress made her directorial debut in Woman of the Hour. She also starred in the Netflix film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023.

Fun fact about the film: Authenticity was priority number one for the director and his cast, who did all their own fighting. According to Den of Geek, Edgerton not only gave his all but he surrendered a ligament, too. 

“My shining moment was getting my MCL ligament torn on a grade three tear,” Edgerton said. “I had six weeks of rehab for that. Apart from that, the odd elbow or punch in the face. Everyone was getting knocked around. You couldn’t really be an actor in this process without getting knocked around.”

Hardy, whose level of commitment to a role is the same whether he’s acting oppposite Reese Witherspoon in a rom-com (This Means War) or Cillian Murphy in a ruthless gangster saga (Peaky Blinders), followed Edgerton’s comment with, “There wasn’t any room to act, was there? It was so annoying. [Laughs] I want to act, but he keeps hitting me! Not my face! As Gavin said, ‘It’s a f—in’ MMA movie! It’s not a f—in’ kite flying movie, now man up!’ But it hurts!”

Warrior — now the undisputed champion of best fight movies of all time — got a pinch of what it was due in 2012, when Nolte, who plays the brothers’ alcoholic father, was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role. If you ask us, Hardy was robbed — the English actor is a different kind of animal in the octagon.

With all the hoopla going on this weekend, do yourself a favor and carve out some time to spend with this prized film. Do it sooner rather than later, because what the free-streaming gods giveth, the also taketh away when you least expect it. You will not regret it.

A Brief History of Mahjong

Mahjong traces its roots to China, where historians believe it evolved from earlier card and paper-based games before eventually taking the tile-based form players recognize today. By the late 19th century, mahjong had arrived in the West and experienced a boom in the United States in the 1920s.

The game is played with tiles featuring different symbols and suits, requiring players to form winning combinations while tracking opponents' moves and adapting their strategies. Today, mahjong remains especially popular among older adults, thanks in part to its social nature and mentally engaging gameplay — making it one of the more underrated brain games for seniors.

Does Mahjong Help Prevent Cognitive Decline?

According to Dr. Lori Bohn, a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director at Voyager Recovery Center, the game's challenging demands are what set it apart. "When watching older adults play mahjong, it is clear to me how continuous engagement in the game demands their constant attention, memory, ability to recognize patterns, ability to make decisions strategically, and reading social cues for interaction with fellow players," Bohn tells Parade.

"There is research showing that participating in games such as mahjong on a consistent basis has an association with greater cognitive function, lower rates of cognitive decline and improved emotional states," she says. "However, most of this evidence is correlational instead of causal."

The Social Connection May Be Just as Important for Healthy Aging

Though Bohn notes that researchers have not yet clinically proven that mahjong directly prevents cognitive decline, a 2024 study found that adults age 60 and older who played mahjong reported a stronger sense of social connection and improved self-esteem.

"Research shows that social engagement is one of the strongest factors in protecting the aging brain," says Rachel Lambert, LPC, BCN, founder of Braincode Centers. "Mahjong requires interaction with others, which is a key reason it is so effective."

Katie Grigg, a dementia specialist and former NHS dementia practitioner, agrees. "Activities that challenge the mind and encourage social connection can be particularly beneficial, as social isolation is itself a known risk factor."

“Southern Cross” by Crosby, Stills & Nash appeared on the band's seventh LP, Daylight Again. Written by Stephen Stills, Rick Curtis, and Michael Curtis, the track blends the group's distinctive harmonies with reflective storytelling, following a journey of self-discovery set against an open-sea backdrop.

According to American Songwriter, "Southern Cross" was based on the song “Seven League Boots,” written by the Curtis Brothers. The original song tells the story of a magical pair of boots that allows the person wearing them to walk 21 miles with each step.

Weebly reported that the idea of the boots was first conceived by French author Charles Perrault in the 17th-century. They were spoken about in the fairy tale Hop-o'-My-Thumb where the magical footwear was stolen from a monster.

Stills told American Songwriter, “The Curtis Brothers brought a wonderful song called ‘Seven League Boots,’ but it drifted around too much.” He ultimately added his own lyrics, which reflected his life experience as he divorced his wife, Veronique Sanson. “I rewrote a new set of words and added a different chorus, a story about a long boat trip I took after my divorce."

“It’s about using the power of the universe to heal your wounds,” he concluded. “Once again, I was given somebody’s gem and cut and polished it.”

Michael Curtis discussed how his composition became a Crosby, Stills, & Nash classic. "Stephen Stills was on tour with CSN in Europe. Our good friend and publisher, Ken Weiss, was hanging with Stephen and driving him around."

He continued, "Kenny had the tape of some Curtis Brothers songs. JStephen heard 'Seven League Boots' and asked, 'What the heck is that?'"

"He asked if he could play with it. Since it was a throwaway song for us, we said sure."

"He had just gotten divorced and was all depressed and hanging around L.A. when a couple of his buddies said, 'You have to come sailing with us.' He sailed into the South Pacific, and when he got back, he's got these lyrics that he's not quite sure what to do with. He put the song together with all the sailing jargon," Curtis concluded.

Ironically, the song’s sailing imagery aligns closely with the Crux constellation. According to the European Southern Observatory (ESO), it is also known as the “Southern Cross” and was historically used as a key navigational guide for sailors.

"Southern Cross" was the last major hit by Crosby, Stills & Nash. The song reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Emiy and Gloria worked to write the music and lyrics for Basura: A New Musical, which runs from May 30 to July 12. Based on the true story of Paraguay's Recycled Orchestra, Basura tells the story of when "young artists turn scrap material into instruments and music into possibilities." It was inspired by the award-winning documentary "Landfill Orchestra."

"This is a story that has been close to my heart for several years since I first encountered the determination and ingenuity of the young people of Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra," Gloria Estefan said in a statement, Playbill reported. "Emily and I are thrilled for our music to be a part of telling their story in this original musical. We could not be more excited for Basura to begin its theatrical life in a city as influential and diverse as Atlanta with a theatre as consequential as the Alliance."

Long before a Bob Dylan song became a defining early-career moment, its inspiration arrived in the form of an unexpected sound at dawn.

In 1962, Dylan wrote the lyrics to "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right" after his girlfriend, Susie Rotolo, went on a trip to Italy and he was left in her New York apartment. According to Rolling Stone, one of the song's most iconic lines reveals a personal experience between the two.

“When your rooster crows at the break of dawn, look out your window, and I’ll be gone,” Dylan wrote as part of the song's lyrics. Rotolo explained that the couple lived near a poultry supplier in Greenwich Village, and the roosters would crow early in the morning.

In a story for The New York Times, Rotolo shared, "I've always had trouble talking or reminiscing about the 1960s because of my place close to Dylan, the mover and shaper of the culture of that era. The kind of adulation and scrutiny he received made that conversation awkward for me."

She added, "He became an elephant in the room of my life. I am private by nature, and my instinct was to protect my privacy, and consequently his."

In the liner notes for The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, the artist writes that "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right" isn't “a love song. It’s a statement that maybe you can say to make yourself feel better. It’s as if you were talking to yourself.” 

The LP was added to the National Registry by the Library of Congress in 2002.

The LOC wrote, "Any album that includes the first rendition of 'Blowin’ in the Wind,' the unofficial anthem of the 1960s, would have to be included in a registry of America’s most important recordings. And, so, based upon that merit and the remarkable other songs to be found on Bob Dylan’s second LP, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan was named to the National Registry in its inaugural year of 2002."

The album was originally titled Bob Dylan's Blues. He was only 22 when he recorded a volume of material that is widely known as one of the greatest folk albums of all time.

This band had 18 Top 40 hits in just four years and there's a pretty good chance that you've never even heard of them.

Herman's Hermits arrived in 1964 already running. Their debut single, "I'm Into Something Good," written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, went straight to No. 1, knocking The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" off the top spot. From there the hits didn't stop. Eighteen Top 40 singles in just four years, at a pace that almost no band today would survive.

At the peak of their popularity, Herman's Hermits weren't just popular, they were treated like one of the biggest bands in the world. Fans couldn’t get enough. In 1965 and 1966 they were grouped with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as music's "Big Three." In America, where the Manchester band found their biggest audience and greatest success, they even briefly outsold The Beatles.

And in the middle of all those sessions, one name kept getting called. Frontman Peter Noone later told the story himself. "Jimmy Page is next door doing the Honeycombs or something, let's get him and play a lick on this," Noone recalled being told in the studio. "How much does he want? Nine pounds." The song was "Wonderful World," and the guitarist who played its opening lick for nine pounds would go on to form Led Zeppelin.

Asked years later if it was true that future Led Zeppelin members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones played on Herman's Hermits records, Noone didn't hesitate to answer. "On many of them, yeah," he said. Two future members of one of rock's biggest bands, on a Herman's Hermits record, for the price of a few drinks.

The Beatles Lost To Them. Then History Forgot Them.

So what happened?

The pace that made Herman's Hermits so big was also the pace that broke them down. Bands in the mid 1960s were expected to put out music nonstop, bigger and faster every time, with little thought for what that actually took out of the people making it. By 1969 things had fallen apart. Their record label had lost interest and even advertised the wrong single. That was the last straw, and the split that followed was a mess.

Unlike The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits never got the chance to fully become the legends they were meant to be. They made the hits and then they got almost completely forgotten.

That hasn't slowed them down. Herman's Hermits, still fronted by Peter Noone, are right in the middle of a 60th anniversary tour running through 2026, sharing stages with The Beach Boys and The Lovin' Spoonful.

The British Invasion gets remembered as a handful of big names. But it worked the way anything that big works, through a ton of smaller contributions nobody ever talks about. Herman's Hermits sold over 60 million records, helped shape the sound of the era, and once paid two future Led Zeppelin legends nine pounds for an afternoon's work.

Sixty years later, they're still on stage performing.

1967 was a strange year for The Doors.

Their second studio album, Strange Days, was released just eight months after their self-titled debut album. “Light My Fire” had already become a No.1 Billboard Hot 100 hit by the time The Doors were booked on The Ed Sullivan Show, where their next hit, ”People Are Strange,” became their lead-in performance on live TV.

Written by Jim Morrison and Robby Krieger, “People Are Strange” featured a carnival-like organ riff and lyrics about loneliness. Sullivan introduced the song on his show with, “Now, The Doors…here they are with their newest hit record, ‘People Are Strange.’”

The “People Are Strange” performance segued into “Light My Fire,” but lead singer Morrison failed to follow Sullivan’s request that he change the line “Girl, we couldn’t get much higher.” The Doors were ultimately banned from Sullivan’s show following the famous performance, but "People Are Strange" would go on to reach No. 12 on Billboard in October 1967.

“People Are Strange” was inspired by Morrison's overnight visit to Andy Warhol’s Factory studio in New York. Doors band member Ray Manzarek once told the Ultimate Classic Rock Nightsradio show that Morrison got up at 5:30 in the morning to meet up with his bandmates.

“We’re staying midtown, he’s downtown at Andy Warhol’s Factory, starts walking back,” Manzarek recalled. “He said, ‘You know, the sun was just starting to come up … it was New York City, and it was nice.’ It was late spring or something, maybe early fall. He said, ‘New York is great – it’s like empty; it’s deserted; there’s nobody around.’”

“Little by little, out of the subways … people started coming up there, coming up and up and up," Manzarek said. "It was like creatures were crawling out from underground. … By the time he got to midtown, the city was packed. …  [‘People  Are Strange'] is "about the people coming out of the New York subway as Jim Morrison was walking back from Andy Warhol’s Factory to our hotel in midtown Manhattan.”

While “People Are Strange” was one of the Doors' biggest hits in the 1960s, the song found new life 20 years later—this time in the UK—thanks to an Echo & the Bunnymen cover that appeared on the soundtrack to the 1987 horror film, The Lost Boys. The cover featured Ray Manzarek on keyboards. The Doors legend also produced the track, giving it further credibility among fans.

According to Echo & the Bunnymen's website, the “People Are Strange” cover, which plays during The Lost Boys opening credits, was “re-released 3 yrs later, charting on both occasions,” due to the popularity of the film.

The men left in limbo from Taylor Frankie Paul’s cancelled season of The Bachelorette may finally get to see their love stories on screen.

The forgotten Season 22 cast took to Instagram on June 11 with a dance-off posted by contestants Matthew Carroll, Rod Strozier, and Johnnie Larossa, featuring all of the contestants and highlighting, “have faith, everything will work out for the best.” The men, who previously expressed their frustration with the cancellation after some quit their jobs, took leave from work, went through filming, and expected a national TV launch that never happened.

ABC decided not to air Taylor Frankie Paul's season of "The Bachelorette" in light of the controversy surrounding a video published by TMZ, of a domestic violence incident involving Taylor and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, back in 2023. The domestic dispute was filmed by Mortensen, as the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives alum, threw multiple metal barstools at him. The incident occurred in front of her 8-year-old daughter, Indy, who started crying.

The interaction ultimately led to Paul’s arrest for domestic violence. She later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Taylor's season of "The Bachelorette" was set to premiere in March on ABC, with her choosing a suitor from more than two dozen men.

In Johnnie’s video, the suitors inhaled and exhaled before breaking into dance and smiles, with the caption “Just breathe and wait to find out 🌹😉,” - LaRossa. In the video, the text reads the question on everyone's minds: “Is the show going to air🌹?!?” and “Us….” 

“It’s giving Magic Mike vibes.”

Fans reacted to the post with mixed reactions, such as one user commented: “honestly, just give these guys their own show.” Another commented, "They really should call it the bros from the mansion,” and  “it’s giving Magic Mike vibes.”

Some reactions weren't so positive: “I’ve never had the ick this bad,” and “please don’t quit your day job”, and ‘this is weird.”

Rumors of a possible return have circulated for months. While speaking to Deadline, back in April, ABC executive Rob Mills left the door open for the season to air. In May, longtime Bachelor insider Reality Steve claimed the season would air this summer on ABC.

Additionally, a source told Us Weekly in May that Paul “has been doing the work behind the scenes, taking accountability and is focused on moving forward in a more positive way.”

Maybe the bachelors will finally have their moment!

On June 13, 1991, country music fans witnessed a heartbreaking chapter in the life of one of the genre's most beloved performers. Financial troubles had caught up with Dottie West.

The Internal Revenue Service held a public auction of her personal possessions in an effort to recover more than $1.5 million in unpaid debts.

For an artist who had spent decades entertaining audiences and helping pave the way for future generations of country stars, the event was a sobering fall from grace.

West had become one of country music's most recognizable voices through hits such as "Country Sunshine," "A Lesson in Leavin'" and a string of successful duets with Kenny Rogers during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

By 1991, however, financial difficulties had placed her under intense scrutiny.

After authorities determined that valuable assets had not been properly disclosed, the IRS seized numerous personal items and put them up for auction.

Among the possessions sold were some of the items most closely associated with West's life and career, including her baby grand piano, which fetched $4,900 and her 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood. The auction attracted collectors, fans and curious onlookers, many eager to own a piece of country music history.

But what happened next revealed just how deeply West was loved by her fans.

Rather than simply purchasing memorabilia for themselves, some attendees bought items with a different goal in mind: returning them to West. Moved by her circumstances and appreciative of her contributions to country music, these supporters used the auction as an opportunity to help preserve pieces of her personal history.

Their gesture couldn't erase the financial difficulties she faced. Even after the auction proceeds were applied to her debts, West still owed substantial sums to the IRS.

A few months later on Sept. 4, 1991, West was in a car accident near Nashville, Tennessee. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her manager, and although she initially appeared to have relatively minor injuries, internal damage was later discovered, leading to emergency surgery; she died several days later at age 58.

The Metropolis skyline at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is getting a major superhero shake-up, and fans won't have to wait long to experience the first wave of the action. In a joint announcement by destination developer Miral and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, the massive indoor theme park on Yas Island unveiled plans for two brand-new DC Comics attractions, including an interactive spinning thrill ride debuting this summer and a massive, next-generation flying roller coaster slated for the near future.

The first attraction to cross the finish line is Kryptonite Collider, an immersive, high-energy experience launching on July 26, 2026. The storyline kicks off the moment guests step into the queue, where they are recruited as "test subjects" for Lex Luthor’s ambitious Everyman Project. Once strapped into the 32-guest centrifuge-style ride vehicle, riders are swept through a vortex of powerful motion, brought to life via synchronized onboard audio and striking lighting effects designed to simulate a chaotic surge of raw power.
