We all know Hollywood feuds can start over the smallest things, but when two comedy heavyweights clash over a single punchline, the fallout is pure entertainment.

During a recent appearance on Vulture's Good One podcast, Wanda Sykes pulled back the curtain on a hilariously awkward, post-Golden Globes confrontation with Bill Maher. What started as a writer-approved jab on stage quickly turned into a parking-lot standoff about what actually qualifies as "funny."

"The writers gave me that one," Sykes said, revealing that she had a different joke about Maher, but she was told it would ruin a punchline that was already in the show. After looking at a few options, the "Bill Maher, you give us so much. How about a little less? Try Less" stood out to her. While the audience laughed, Maher's face showed that he was less than thrilled.

A Parking Lot Confrontation

"He stopped me out in the parking lot -- not in the parking lot -- we were waiting for our cars," Sykes said. "He was like, 'What was that about?' And I was like, 'It's a joke, Bill.' He's like, 'Well, I mean, it wasn't even a joke.' I said, 'Oh, no, I heard laughter, it was clearly a joke.'"

The two continued debating whether it was a joke before Maher took things to the next level by calling it "stupid" and telling her that many people were texting him about it. The "stupid" remark set her off.

"I was like, okay, now you're going to get it. I was like, 'Well, I got a lot of texts telling me how great it was, and how they don't like you, and it was really funny,'" she recalled telling him. "I said, 'I guess, you know, that's the problem. You're watching Fox News, and I'm over here on MSNBC."

'Absolutely Not!'

While that seemed like the end of the conversation, his next question floored her.

"He asked me to be on his podcast," she said, referencing Club Random, the podcast Maher started in 2022. "I was like, 'Absolutely not!"

While Maher might still be debating the merits of the joke, it's safe to say fans shouldn't hold their breath for a Club Random reunion anytime soon.

How Do Cats Affect Our Mental Health?

Cats positively affect our mental and emotional health—and that’s research-backed. According to a 2023 study in Animals, this type of pet can reduce stress and boost mood. 

“Cats are natural therapists,” adds Dr. Juli Fraga, PsyD, a licensed psychologist who helps individuals struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety, maternal and childhood trauma, infertility and loss/grief.

Does Petting a Cat Reduce Stress?

Cats can have emotional advantages on people in various ways, whether it’s from hearing their purring, petting them or simply seeing them around your home. 

Dr. Fraga explains why petting a cat, in particular, can help with stress relief.

“It brings you into the present moment, and even the tactile sensation of feeling your cat’s soft fur against your hand can be soothing,” she explains.

Again, research suggests this, too. The above Animals study found that petting your cat can reduce cortisol, known as the “stress hormone.”

As mentioned, purring is also a stress-buster.

“Research even shows that the sound frequency of your cat’s purr (25 to 150 hertz) is the same frequency that’s often used in sound healing,” Dr. Fraga says. “These vibrations can instill calm, reduce pain and regulate your nervous system.”

Do Cats Help With Depression and Anxiety?

When we talk about the psychological benefits of owning a cat, we’re not just talking about run-of-the-mill stress and sadness (though those are super valid, too). We’re also talking about depression and anxiety.

“The presence of your pet can reduce loneliness, sadness and anxiety,” Dr. Fraga explains. “While cats beat to their own drum, their companionship provides a mood boost.” 

She also notes that research—such as a 2025 study in Applied Animal Behaviour Science—found that securely attached cats, especially, can increase levels of oxytocin (the “love hormone”). This is “why you may feel better after watching a kitten video, even if you don’t own a cat,” she adds.

Dr. Fraga gets more specific with the psychological perks of owning a cat, spelling each out below.

1. Steadying your nervous system

As mentioned above, “petting your cat can soothe your nervous system, which helps when you’re feeling stressed,” according to Dr. Fraga. It can relax your body and help you breathe more steadily, for example.

2. Teaching meditation and mindfulness

Cats remind us to be present by doing that themselves. Plus, “petting your cat can also slow down your breathing, helping you feel more relaxed,” Dr. Fraga adds. You’re able to have a more peaceful and pleasurable sensory moment, all thanks to your feline.

3. Increasing positive emotions

Do you feel better when you’re around your cat? While simple, it’s a real benefit.

“Spending time with your cat can increase positive emotions like joy and happiness,” Dr. Fraga states.

4. Encouraging self-care

Whether it’s finding a warm spot in the sun, grooming themselves or doing whatever they feel like doing, cats show their owners how to practice self-care.

“Cats are wonderful teachers because they know how to find warmth [and] they know how to take care of their needs, which models that we should do the same,” Dr. Fraga points out.

5. Reducing anxiety

Can’t stop worrying? Spending quality time with your cat can help.

“Petting a cat and listening to its purr can reduce feelings of anxiety,” Dr. Fraga notes.

That could be for many reasons—how it helps you stay present, how the sensations are calming or just spending time with a “loved one.”

6. Reducing loneliness

While a cat obviously isn’t a human, it still serves as a living companion.

“The presence of a pet, including a cat, can help reduce feelings of loneliness because you’re in the company of your adorable pet,” Dr. Fraga states.

7. Helping us practice patience

Anyone who’s owned a cat knows that cats can try your patience, whether it’s from knocking your keys off the counter, pouncing on you in bed or purring until you feed them. While that can be frustrating in the moment, it allows us to practice tolerating that frustration. 

“A relationship with your cat is an exercise in patience,” Dr. Fraga shares. “They have a mind of their own and ask their owners to follow their lead.”

8. Increases motivation

Getting out of bed can be hard sometimes—especially if you have depression—and having a living thing to care for can help.

“Cats require caretaking, which motivates us to tend to their needs,” Dr. Fraga explains. “This can help us take charge in other areas of our lives, too.”

She gives the example of having to get up early to feed your cat, then deciding to clean your house or tackle another task on your to-do list.

While owning a cat won’t “purrfectly” address your mental health, it clearly has many significant advantages that can accompany medication and therapy.

To round out the adorable baby boom, sharp-eyed visitors can also spot several new zebra foals prancing through the plains and a precious black bear cub named Artemis.

Next, ‘Song Sung Blue’: Cast, Plot, Trailer, Release Date and More on Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman’s New Film

In 1943, the British actor behind one of cinema's most controversial characters was born in Yorkshire.

Eighty-three years later, Malcolm McDowell remains one of the most influential and imitated villains in film history.

McDowell was born on June 13, 1943, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to a hotelier mother and publican father. His father’s service in the Royal Air Force moved the family to Bridlington, where he developed an early love of performing. He went on to train at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

At Cannock House School, McDowell discovered his calling, moving from acting classes to a spot as an extra with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It caught the eye of British director Lindsay Anderson, who cast him as school rebel Mick Travis in If.... (1968).

While Figures in a Landscape (1970) and The Raging Moon (1971) added to his resume, it was his debut performance that drew Stanley Kubrick. The legendary director had seen enough in McDowell to cast him as the lead in A Clockwork Orange. 

The film was adapted from Anthony Burgess’s novel of the same name, which follows Alex DeLarge, a violent young criminal forced to undergo experimental psychological conditioning.

The performance earned McDowell a Golden Globe nomination and recognition from the New York Film Critics Circle for Best Actor. Business Insider later included his portrayal on its list of the "Greatest Movie Villains of All Time."

Yet despite the critical acclaim, the film generated considerable controversy. A Clockwork Orange went on to become one of the most contentious films of the 20th century, banned in certain regions and associated with reports of copycat violence in the U.K. 

The movie made McDowell one of the most talked-about actors of his generation — but he'd be the first to tell you it didn't feel that way. Looking back in a conversation with Page Six, he said the whole experience was overwhelming.

“I don’t think I handled it particularly well, actually,” he admitted earlier this year. “It actually frightened me somewhat. Everybody’s pulling on you. They don’t allow you really just to enjoy it.”

Rather than enjoying the moment, McDowell was drowning in offers and pushed to say yes for projects he wasn’t interested in. When he raised concerns about the material, nobody wanted to hear it. "The script's very bad." "Well, who cares?"

If you’ve ever read about child development or are interested in the topic, odds are you’ve heard of Jean Piaget. He was a Swiss psychologist known for his research and writings on cognitive development and believed that educating kids was of the utmost importance. As Britannica reported, he was “the first to make a systematic study of the acquisition of understanding in children.” And that’s pretty appropriate, since our quote of the day includes his thoughts on how different—or alike—adults and children are.

Piaget was born on Aug. 9, 1896, in Switzerland. He initially had an interest in zoology; he got a doctorate in the subject, which he studied at university alongside philosophy. However, after college, he got really interested in psychology, even studying under Carl Jung in Zürich. He then studied at Sorbonne University in Paris, starting in 1919, where he became interested in the kinds of mistakes kids would make on reading tests he administered. This led to his lifelong study of cognitive development. 

While we understand today that kids have very different ways of thinking than adults do, according to VeryWellMind, that hasn’t always been the case. In fact, people used to think that children were just “mini-adults.” So Piaget’s research really blew open this concept that kids have their own thought processes that are “fundamentally different from adults’.”

As you can imagine, Piaget’s work was significant and influential not just in developmental psychology, but in other fields like sociology, education and more. And today’s quote can be taken many ways, but it really highlights that we are an extension of our childhood selves, even if we don’t think the same way we did back then.

“There is an adult in every child and a child in every adult…”

This quote appears in Jean Piaget’s book, The Moral Judgment of the Child, in Chapter 1 titled, “The Rules of the Game.” Specifically, it’s at the end of this chapter, under the eighth section called “Conclusions: Motor Rules and the Two Kinds of Respect.”

Before this quote, Piaget is describing experiments or studies in which they’re trying to see the difference between how children and adults make decisions. And of course, there are huge discrepancies between the two groups, as is his central thesis. 

Adults have more life experience, more knowledge and more common sense (their brains are just more developed) and can therefore make more complex choices. And again, as VeryWellMind reported, Piaget ultimately came up with a theory that stated children’s thinking is different from adults. 

But, he does still say in this paragraph that adults can still resort to child-like decision-making, especially in situations where extreme conformity is expected. 

“In certain circumstances where he experiments in new types of conduct by cooperating with his equals, the child is already an adult. There is an adult in every child and a child in every adult… There exist in the child certain attitudes and beliefs which intellectual development will more and more tend to eliminate: there are others which will acquire more and more importance. The latter are not derived from the former but are partly antagonistic to them.”

Deeper Meaning of Jean Piaget’s Quote—Personal Development and Your Inner Child

At first, it might seem like this quote contradicts the main point in his theories on human development. However, as he notes right after the quote, he’s not saying that adults and children are the same in their understanding of a situation or in the conclusions they make. He’s simply saying that there are echoes of children—maybe even your inner child—in every adult.

“It is, we may say, simply a question of the proportions in which they are mixed; so long as we remember that every difference of proportion is also a difference of general quality, for the spirit is one and undivided,” he wrote.

He is saying that even though there can be bits and pieces here and there of adult decision-making in kids, it’s not 100% and usually only comes up when they’re with equals (i.e., other kids). And simple—or even uniform—choices might bring out a little more of the kid in you, when it comes to adults. 

It’s important to note that the first half—“There is an adult in every child…”—is referring to choices and how understanding develops. So you obviously don’t want to take this at face value or on its own because it might be taken the wrong way without the context. He’s not saying that kids have the capacity to be adults or make adult decisions. But in connection with the second part of the quote, it’s sweet to think about who you were, your inner child and just how everything can be cyclical.

Ella Langley has added another major achievement to her growing list of career milestones.

The country singer’s hit single “Choosin’ Texas” has now spent a record-setting 28th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart dated June 13, making it the longest-leading hit by a solo female artist with no other credited recording artists since the chart became the genre’s main songs ranking in 1958.

The new mark pushes Langley past Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope,” which held the previous record after dominating the chart during 2020 and 2021.

According to Billboard, “Choosin’ Texas” earned 27 million official U.S. streams, 48.9 million radio audience impressions, and 8,000 sales during the tracking week of May 22-28.

The achievement further cements what has become one of the biggest country music success stories of the decade. Since reaching No. 1 in early December 2025, the song has remained at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart without interruption.

Only three songs in the chart’s history have spent more weeks at No. 1 than “Choosin’ Texas”: Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant to Be” with 50 weeks, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” with 45 weeks and Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” with 34 weeks.

The latest chart milestone adds to an already historic year for Langley.

For the entirety of 2026, “Choosin’ Texas” has remained the No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The single first reached the summit in December 2025 and has continued its streak week after week.

Just weeks earlier, the song tied Barrett’s “I Hope” for fourth place among the longest-running No. 1 hits in the chart’s history. With its 28th week on top, Langley now owns the record outright among solo female country artists.

The song’s dominance extends beyond country music. “Choosin’ Texas” also spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, helping transform Langley from a rising star into one of the genre’s most successful performers.

At the same time, she continues to occupy multiple positions near the top of the Hot Country Songs chart. For five consecutive weeks, Langley has held the chart’s top three spots with “Choosin’ Texas” at No. 1, “Be Her” at No. 2, and “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” featuring Morgan Wallen, at No. 3.

No other woman has achieved that feat for multiple weeks on the chart. Langley co-wrote “Choosin’ Texas” alongside Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert, and Joybeth Taylor. She also co-produced the song with Lambert and Ben West.

The track serves as a centerpiece of her second studio album, Dandelion, which arrived in 2026 and further expanded her commercial success.

Born in Hope Hull, Alabama, Langley first gained widespread attention through viral songs and years of steady touring before breaking into the mainstream. Her debut album, Hungover, helped introduce her to a larger audience, while “Choosin’ Texas” elevated her to a new level of stardom.

Speaking previously about the song’s success, Langley admitted she never expected it to reach such heights.

“It was such a crazy moment,” the Alabama native previously told Billboard about learning that “Choosin’ Texas” had reached No. 1 on the Hot 100.

“My label called, with my team on speaker, and it was just surreal. We loved the song when we wrote it, but none of us thought that it would be the song to do everything it’s doing. It keeps giving us a reason to celebrate new milestones.”

Those milestones have continued throughout 2026.

In addition to her chart success, Langley recently made headlines after winning seven Academy of Country Music Awards in a single night, setting a new record for the most ACM wins in one year.

With “Choosin’ Texas” still leading the Hot Country Songs chart and continuing to perform strongly across streaming, sales and radio platforms, the song remains within reach of climbing even higher on the all-time list.

For now, the record-breaking single stands alone as the longest-running No. 1 country hit by a solo female artist in Billboard Hot Country Songs history, marking another landmark moment in Ella Langley’s remarkable rise.

Most people assume that their taxes are reduced after retirement, but for many, that’s actually the opposite. What’s the culprit? Required minimum distributions (RMDs) can hit you with a tax bill you never expected. So who has to pay, and what can you do about it?

What Are RMDs and Why Do They Matter

If you’ve been sitting on your traditional IRA or 401(k) accounts and are are approaching 73 — or 75 if you were born in 1960 or later — the IRS requires you to begin withdrawing funds at that age under rules updated by the SECURE 2.0 Act. There’s a minimum you’re required to take each year, calculated for each individual account, and missing the deadline could incur heavy penalties up to 25%, says Kiplinger.

The RMDs are taxable, and it’s possible it could drive you into a higher tax bracket. This could trigger the taxation of Social Security benefits and drive up your Medicare premiums by thousands of dollars a year.

Social Security

The Motley Fool notes in a piece that RMDs can leave you open to taxation of your Social Security benefits. A single retiree receiving $3,000 a month in Social Security already exceeds the $25,000 combined income threshold where benefits become taxable. A $10,000 RMD on top of that can push them toward the 85% taxation threshold — meaning up to 85 cents of every Social Security dollar becomes taxable income. 

The thresholds for determining taxable income haven’t been indexed for inflation since 1984, states Instead in a piece about RMDs. This means that many retirees will find themselves with taxable Social Security once they begin drawing on their accounts.

Medicare Premiums

Income-related monthly adjustment amounts, or IRMAAs, can create surcharges that go above and beyond the standard Medicare part B charge. If your RMDs push you into a higher tax bracket, it’s not unrealistic to face IRMAAs based on your modified adjusted gross incomes (MAGIs) from two years prior. 

Medicare's IRMAA surcharges are calculated based on your income from two years prior — meaning a large RMD in 2026 won't affect your Medicare premiums until 2028, catching many retirees off guard long after they've forgotten about the original withdrawal. Talking with a financial planner can give you the opportunity to better prepare for when your monthly premiums change.

What You Can Do About It

If you’re between the ages of 59 1/2 and 73, then you can begin drawing on your IRAs and 401(k)s now to lower those accounts before RMDs kick in. Drawing on your accounts earlier may even help you defer benefits until the age of 70 when benefits will be at their highest. 

Other options include xecuting a Roth conversion — moving pre-tax money into a Roth IRA during lower-income years — so future withdrawals are tax-free and exempt from RMD requirements entirely. Health savings accounts are triple tax-advantaged — contributions go in pre-tax, grow tax-free, and can be withdrawn tax-free for qualified medical expenses Medicare doesn't cover. One important caveat: once you enroll in Medicare, you can no longer make new HSA contributions, so this strategy applies to pre-Medicare retirees or existing HSA balances.

You may not be able to avoid RMD tax hits completely, but a good financial planner will help you find all the ways to reduce your liabilities. No matter your age, there’s likely a strategy that will help you keep more of your money in your pocket.

From Indiana Jones to Catch Me If You Can, it's hard to decide which Steven Spielberg classic is the most entertaining.

Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor lead the thriller about a decades-long conspiracy to hide evidence of extraterrestrial life. Blunt, 43, plays Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City meteorologist who suddenly develops amazing and alarming abilities, like speaking in foreign languages and reading minds. O’Connor, 36, is Daniel Kellner, a mathematics whiz turned whistle-blower determined to reveal what he knows about a covert global cybersecurity force that’s quashed nearly 80 years of proof about extraterrestrial “close encounters.”

They both become targets of a massive, rip-roaring manhunt to round them up and shut them down. Then there's Colin Firth as Noah Scanlon, the head of the coverup, convinced that the mind-blowing reality about aliens would “tip the balance” of a world already on the precipice of nuclear self-destruction

Cody Johnson is keeping the momentum going after dropping a special treat for fans.

Amid his highly anticipated Live 2026 tour, the country star marks another exciting chapter through his newly released song.

The award-winning musician with five No. 1 hits under his belt proudly unveiled his brand-new single, “Horseback.”

Written by Randy Montana, Wyatt McCubbin and Paul Sikes, Johnson’s new song is part of his upcoming studio album Banks of the Trinity.

In an Instagram update, the singer-songwriter described the track as a playful contrast to a typical breakup song.

“Most breakup songs are about getting the girl back. This one’s about getting the horse back. My new single, “Horseback,” is out now. Listen to the link in bio,” he captioned his post.

Johnson's announcement sparked excitement among fans, who welcomed the news with enthusiasm and anticipation for his new single.

“Thank you Cojo, you crushed this,” one wrote.

“Can’t wait to listen,” a commenter added.

A fan hyped the country star’s new song, noting, “Great Song!! You knocked it outta the park!!”

“Absolute banger. Love this guy,” another said.

The same goes for a fan who commented, “I know there’s a bomb in this album. Just how many surprises do you have for us?”

Apart from the “'Til You Can’t” hitmaker’s announcement, Johnson is currently on the road for his U.S. and Canada tour.

The 38-year-old singer, known for his Grammy-winning tracks like “Dirt Cheap,” “Human,” “On My Way to You,” “Dear Rodeo” and more, kicked off his 25-date run in March in Arizona, followed by a series of performances in Missouri, South Dakota, South Carolina, Iowa, Michigan and more before concluding in September in Canada.

The list of his upcoming concerts also features multiple U.K. shows running from October through November.
