Craig Melvin is "safe and sound" following the Today show security breach incident that occurred on Thursday, July 16.

The day after an intruder made his way into the NBC morning show's New York City studio and confronted Melvin, the Today co-host took a "quick moment" to address the incident on air.

"You may have heard that unfortunately, an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A," Melvin said on the Friday, July 17, broadcast. "Thankfully, he was apprehended quickly; he was placed under arrest. We are cooperating fully with NYPD as they investigate the matter, and we are just very happy that everyone is safe."

"We want to make sure that you’re safe," chimed in Laura Jarrett, who was sitting in for co-anchor Savannah Guthrie on Friday's broadcast, as Melvin assured, "Safe and sound."

On Thursday, a man who has since been identified by the NYPD as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, allegedly broke into the Rockefeller Plaza studio around 9 a.m., where he is accused of yelling racial slurs at Melvin and asking for Al Roker after skirting security, as per NBC News.

He has since been charged with hate crime-burglary, hate crime-menacing, hate crime-criminal trespass, and harassment, as per the NYPD, but has not yet been arraigned.

Following the incident, Melvin broke his silence on Instagram, writing, "Hey everyone. I’ve heard from so many of you over the last few hours. I’m doing just fine. Thanks for reaching out. I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow."

Roker also addressed the security breach on social media. "A really heartfelt thank you to all who reached out over the last 24 hours to check in on my brother, @craigmelvinnbc,” he wrote on Friday. "We are both okay. It’s moments like these that serve to pull us together. You all, like Craig, said 'You come after one of us, you come after all of us.' We’ll talk about it this morning on @todayshow."

A beloved piece of Iowa Hawkeyes history is getting a fitting sendoff.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has unveiled an officially licensed, limited-edition bobblehead celebrating the iconic Hawkins Drive water tower, the familiar white structure that has watched over Kinnick Stadium for generations.

The collectible marks the first bobblehead ever created featuring the landmark, which has stood just outside the northeast corner of Kinnick Stadium since 1960. For decades, the towering structure has served as a backdrop for unforgettable Hawkeyes moments, from game days to family photos taken by fans returning to Iowa City.

The bobblehead recreates the water tower atop a green, grass-textured base and features the iconic Tigerhawk logo on one side and the Iowa logo on the other. Each bobblehead is individually numbered in a limited run of 2,026 pieces and is available exclusively through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum's online store. The collectibles are priced at $30 and are expected to ship in December.

The release comes as the Hawkins Drive water tower enters its final chapter. Removal of the nearly 70-year-old structure began July 10 and is expected to continue through the end of August. The tower is being dismantled section by section to make room for a new adult inpatient tower at University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital, a project that will expand patient care on campus.

Although the original tower is coming down, the University of Iowa has already constructed a new, larger water tower northwest of the football practice fields near Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Featuring the same black-and-gold Iowa branding, the replacement tower has a capacity of 2.7 million gallons, more than triple the approximately 750,000-gallon capacity of the original.

In recent weeks, hundreds of Hawkeyes fans, students and alumni have stopped by Kinnick Stadium to snap photos with the soon-to-disappear landmark before it becomes part of school history.

"We're excited to unveil the first bobble featuring the iconic Hawkins Drive water tower, which was a staple in Iowa City for nearly 70 years," National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said in a statement.

"Overlooking the northeast corner of Kinnick Stadium, the legendary structure made its presence felt and was a special part of the campus scenery. This bobble will be a must-have for those who want to fondly remember the beloved Hawkins Drive water tower."

The Hawkins Drive water tower is expected to be fully removed before the Hawkeyes open the 2026 football season against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5, making this commemorative bobblehead a nostalgic keepsake for generations of Iowa fans.

Bane will be teaming up with a hardcore heavyweight for a European tour.

After officially reuniting in 2023 following their 2016 breakup, the Massachusetts punk rock vets transitioned into a fully active touring act and have remained busy with live performances.

Keeping their calendar full, Bane will be joining forces with Terror as they prepare to "hit a ton of countries in Europe late 2026."

Joining the tour to deliver a "100% hardcore" experience are special guests Start Today, the youth crew hardcore band from Los Angeles and Peace of Mind, the hardcore and heavy metal quartet from Sonneberg, Germany.

The newly announced European tour kicks off on Nov. 18 in Paris, France, before making stops across Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium and more.

In addition, Germany and France are among the countries set to host multiple tour stops.

The co-headlining European tour will conclude on Dec. 6 in Nürnberg, Germany.

The exciting announcement came as Terror gears up for the Still Suffer European Summer Tour running from July to August.

As for Bane, they are set to embark on another co-headlining tour, this time with Quicksand.

The North American trek will begin on Aug. 3 in Norfolk, Virginia and conclude on Sept. 3 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Soul Blind will serve as the opening act on all dates except the Grand Rapids, Michigan stop.

Growing up in Louisiana, Tony Chachere’s seasoning was as essential to our kitchen as salt. It went on everything: eggs, gumbo, fried catfish and even popcorn. How To Make My Husband's (and Martha Stewart's) Easy Peel-and-Eat Shrimp

This peel-and-eat shrimp recipe is as simple as they come. If you like to cook with measurements, you can refer to Martha's recipe, but this is truly a recipe you can make using vibes, which is how we do it at my house. All you need is raw, shell-on shrimp, butter and Old Bay seasoning.

You start by melting a generous amount of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once it’s bubbling and fragrant, you toss in the shrimp—shells and all—and season them liberally with Old Bay. Stir occasionally, cooking just until the shrimp turn pink and curl up slightly.

The whole process takes about 8–10 minutes for a skillet full of juicy, tender shrimp coated in a rich, salty-spicy butter sauce. The shells trap the flavor, so when you peel each shrimp, your fingers get messy in the best possible way, and every bite is dripping with buttery goodness.

It’s a dish that works for everything from a casual weeknight dinner to a weekend seafood spread. Pile them high on a platter and serve them with paper towels, lemon wedges a bottle of hot sauce and cocktail sauce if you want to go all out. You don’t even need utensils—just roll up your sleeves and dig in!

Why These Peel-and-Eat Shrimp Are So Great

Old Bay brings its signature blend of celery salt, paprika and warm spice; the butter smooths and deepens the flavor; and the shrimp provide their own natural sweetness. You can absolutely build on this dish, though, by throwing in some garlic, a squeeze of lemon or even by serving the cooked shrimp over grits (my favorite) or a salad.

And if you’re someone who’s more Team Tony than Team Old Bay, just know that you can sub in your favorite Louisiana seasoning, and you’ll get a different (but equally delicious) version with that familiar Southern kick. For something totally unexpected, combine both the Tony's and the Old Bay, which we've done many times in our house!

Happy birthday to Queen Camilla!King Charles’ wife turned 79 on July 17, celebrating her big day with a royal portrait.

Fans flocked to the post, sending their birthday love to Camilla. And of course, her family also honored the Queen on this special day. Prince William and Kate Middleton shared the portrait of Camilla on their Instagram Stories, adding the title, “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy Birthday!”

Camilla posed in a classic royal blue dress, accented with a sapphire butterfly pin. Eagle-eyed royal watchers might remember this look (by designer Fiona Clare) from a 2024 meeting the Queen and her husband had with the Emperor and Empress of Japan at Buckingham Palace in June of 2024. According to recent reports, the new portrait was taken in the State Drawing Room at Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland last month. 

As it turns out, the brooch is more than just another fancy piece of jewelry. The butterfly was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at the Birmingham Spring Fair almost half a century ago, in 1977.

As her birthday post says, “Led by the National Literacy Trust, of which the Queen is Patron, the programme celebrates the National Year of Reading 2026.”

Camilla is a deeply involved children’s literacy advocate who has championed the cause through the National Literacy Trust, The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, The Queen’s Reading Room, and other charities/organizations.

The Duchess of Cornwall continued her literacy quest on the royal couple’s recent trip to the United States. Queen Camilla visited the New York Public Library, reading ‘Winnie the Pooh’ to schoolchildren and gifting the library a ‘Roo’ doll.

For fans of Laverne & Shirley, the show’s eccentric comedy duo Lenny and Squiggy were as pivotal to the series’ funniest moments as its leading ladies. Michael McKean, who portrayed the indelible Lenny Kosnowski, might be best known for his role on the iconic ’70s and ’80s comedy, but the actor, writer, and former SNL cast member is also an Oscar-nominated songwriter and performer.

For many fans, Michael McKean will always be Lenny from Laverne & Shirley, the goofy, well-meaning friend who became one of the most recognizable sitcom characters of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Will spent much of his time with DAAA (Dwarf Athletic Association of America), playing basketball—his favorite sport—and badminton, loving every minute of the competition and camaraderie."

More than five decades after forming in Sydney in 1973, AC/DC is climbing the charts once again.

The band's landmark 1980 album Back in Black has re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 167, marking another surprise return for one of rock music's biggest releases. The album has now spent 645 weeks on the chart and previously reached a peak position of No. 4.

The renewed chart activity arrives as AC/DC launches the North American leg of its 2026 "PWR/UP" tour, which opened in North Carolina on July 11 with a 21-song setlist packed with classic tracks. 

Five songs from Back in Black appeared in the show, including "Back in Black," "Hells Bells," "Have a Drink on Me" and "You Shook Me All Night Long."

The timing also comes just days after late frontman Bon Scott would have celebrated his 80th birthday.

Formed 53 years ago, AC/DC remains one of the world's biggest-selling bands, with more than 200 million records sold worldwide. Their 1980 comeback album continues to attract new listeners while longtime fans revisit one of hard rock's defining releases.

Released on July 25, 1980, Back in Black became a turning point for AC/DC. The album was the group's first release with singer Brian Johnson following the death of original frontman Bon Scott in February 1980. 

After Scott's passing, the remaining members briefly considered ending the band before deciding to continue and eventually bringing Johnson in as their new vocalist.

The record was written by Johnson together with brothers Angus and Malcolm Young and recorded in the Bahamas over seven weeks with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange.

The album quickly became a commercial powerhouse. It reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom and climbed to No. 4 in the United States, where it remained inside the Top 10 for more than five months.

Today, Back in Black is estimated to have sold around 50 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling album in music history. In August 2024, it received a 27-times Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America after reaching 27 million sales in the United States alone.

How Bon Scott Inspired AC/DC's Biggest Anthem

The title track remains one of the band's most famous songs and was created as a tribute to Bon Scott.

"The guys wanted it to be a good rock record in memory of Bon, but without all the slather, without all the mulch and the crap that usually goes with that," Brian Johnson told NME in 2020.

Johnson also explained that the song was never meant to become something sad or overly emotional.

Instead, the band wanted it to feel like "a celebration" of Scott's life.

The lyrics reflected that goal by focusing on Scott's fearless personality rather than his death. The opening idea came from the lines "I got nine lives / Cat's eyes," which helped shape the song's message about living life to the fullest.

Even so, the title itself carried a deeper meaning.

"They wanted the album to be black," Johnson later explained, referring to the band's decision to honor Scott while moving forward as a group.

The balance between grief and celebration helped turn "Back in Black" into one of rock music's defining songs.

AC/DC's 2026 Tour Is Fueling New Interest

The band's latest chart return also follows the launch of its 2026 North American tour.

Opening night featured fan favorites including "Thunderstruck," "Highway to Hell," "Shoot to Thrill," "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap," "T.N.T." and "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)."

The concert also included two songs from the band's latest studio album, Power Up: "Shot in the Dark" and "Demon Fire."

The current run of shows continues through the United States during July and August before wrapping up later this year.

More than half a century after AC/DC first plugged in their guitars, the band is once again proving that classic rock can still find new life on today's charts.

Marla Gibbs shared a heartbreaking goodbye to her longtime friend and 227 co-star, Hal Williams. The actor, who died on July 15 at age 91, played contractor Lester Jenkins, and Gibbs starred as his wife, Mary, on the 1980s NBCsitcom.

Gibbs, 95, posted a touching tribute to Instagram as she looked back on her long friendship with Williams—which started well before they co-starred together on 227. The legendary actress shared a series of photos and videos of her and Williams from over the years, along with a caption that detailed their close relationship.

“This is another difficult loss. ❤️🕊️ ,” Gibbs wrote. “My dear friend and TV husband, Hal Williams, has made his transition. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾."

“Our journey together began long before 227 came to television. Hal was part of the original stage production at our Crossroads Theater,” Gibbs shared, noting that her daughter produced the play.

“And Hal was always there to help. He even secured donated theater seats and helped organize the seating chart because he believed in supporting young artists. That’s just who Hal was, a generous man who freely gave his time, his talent, and his heart to the community,” she wrote.

That actress noted that when the play 227 was developed into a TV series, she “fought" to ensure that her character, Mary Jenkins, would have a husband.

“I’m so glad I did,” she wrote. “Hal, Regina King, and I became a television family that showed the love, strength, and stability of a Black family for five wonderful seasons.”

“But what I treasured most was our friendship,” Gibbs continued of her relationship with Williams. “Even after the show ended, Hal never stopped checking on me. We talked just a couple of weeks ago, laughing and carrying on like we always did…we still call each other Mary and Lester after all the years. I never imagined it would be our last conversation.”

Gibbs thanked Williams for his friendship, kindness, and for the “joy” that he brought to everyone around him.

“Sending prayers for your soul to be in the Light of God, for his whole family and everyone who loved him,” she wrote. “Rest peacefully, my dear friend. 💛.”

227 co-star Jackée Harry also paid tribute to Williams on Instagram.

“What a gentleman,” she captioned a photo featuring her alongside Williams. “Hal always carried himself with grace, and he always had me laughing. I’ll never forget him telling me to trade in my little Mercedes because, ‘You’re a star now!’”

“He was also a stand-up guy who believed Black fathers on TV should be loving, present, and compassionate,” she continued. “He helped show America what that looked like. I’m so lucky to have worked closely with him. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”

Williams died at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, Deadline reported. He was best known for his role as Officer “Smitty” Smith on the 1970s hit comedy Sanford and Son before co-starring with Gibbs, King, Harry, Helen Martin, Paul Winfield, and more on 227 from 1985 to 1990.

In 2020, Gibbs and Williams appeared on Today to look back on the success of their sitcom about a lovable inner-city family and their neighbors—and how it paved the way for future series.

“227 kind of set the bar a little higher because it was a totally intact family,” Williams said at the time. “It was a mother, father, daughter, and they were very positive. There were very few negatives. It addressed all kinds of social issues and it gave oncoming shows the opportunity to explore new avenues and new issues comfortably because the networks and production companies were open to that kind of a pitch idea.”

Rock icon Geezer Butler helped shape the sound of heavy metal as the bassist for legendary band Black Sabbath.

Celebrating an exceptional career spanning more than 60 years, Butler turns 77 on July 17. Born in Birmingham, England, he started playing the bass in 1968 after transitioning over from rhythm guitar when forming Black Sabbath — guitarist Tony Iommi didn't want to share the stage with another guitar player.

The switch to bass paid off, as Butler is highly regarded as someone who is at the top of his game. In 2022, Rolling Stone Australia placed him among the "50 greatest bassists of all time."

In addition to his groundbreaking bass playing, Butler also served as the band's primary lyricist. He was the brains behind many of Black Sabbath's greatest hits, including career-defining tracks like "War Pigs" and "Paranoid," along with the lyrics for the band's first-ever U.K. No 1 album, 13.

"We were all so proud of ourselves when we wrote 'Black Sabbath,'" he said of the band's debut album. "I think it took a couple of hours to write it from top to bottom. Tony played the riff and we all just joined in. Ozzy [Osbourne] spontaneously sang the lyrics. Then Tony topped it all by coming up with the menacing riff at the end. We knew it totally represented each one of us."

In 2023, Butler announced his retirement from active touring, making the realization that he was ready to close the curtain while touring with supergroup Deadland Ritual from 2018 through 2019.

"I don’t want to do anything anymore," he simply stated to Rolling Stone. "I didn’t realize how hard starting from scratch is, especially when you’re used to your own plane and staying at the Four Seasons and the Ritz-Carlton… and then you’re back in little clubs and getting on a bus together. It just didn’t suit me."

On July 5, 2025, Black Sabbath reunited for a one-off charity concert in the band's hometown of Aston, Birmingham. It was the first time that the band's original lineup had come together in 20 years. Billed as the band's farewell performance, the concert took place just 17 days before singer Ozzy Osbourne died.

At home, Bryan and wife Caroline Boyer are raising five children, including a nephew and two nieces they took in after family tragedy. He has often said Fridays are reserved for them.
