And it didn’t take long for Higgins to prove he had star potential, as he landed a role on the CBS sitcom, Petticoat Junction 1963, playing a beloved family pup known simply as “Dog.”

Throughout the seven-season run, Higgins became a fan favorite, performing remarkable tricks like sneezing, yawning and reacting on cue.

“In this case it isn’t a dog performing, but a dog acting, just as humans act,” Variety wrote, per Turner Classic Movies.

After Petticoat Junction ended in 1970, Higgins’ career continued. He appeared in the 1971 film Mooch Goes to Hollywood before settling into a well-earned retirement.

However, his biggest role hadn’t even happened. 

In 1973, filmmaker Joe Camp was searching for the perfect canine star for a movie he’d written about a lovable stray dog who helps rescue two kidnapped children and visited Inn’s property.

“I showed him 300 dogs,” Inn later said, per the LA Times, noting, “and he wasn’t very impressed. But as he was leaving, he spotted [Higgins] in the yard, and right away he said, ‘Now, that’s Benji.’”

And he was thrust back into the spotlight, despite his retirement status, playing the titular character in Benji, a film that hit theaters in 1974.

The family-friendly film became an unexpected box-office sensation, going on to earn a reported $45 million worldwide and ranking among the top-grossing films of 1974.

Higgins, a once-overlooked shelter dog, also became a household name and one of the most recognizable four-legged stars in Hollywood.

Sadly, he didn’t live long enough to enjoy the fame and fortune, as he passed away in 1975 at the age of 17 (though sources disagree on his exact age, as others note he was 19). 

Higgins’ legacy lived on, however, as it’s reported that his daughter, Benjean, took over the role in the 1977 sequel and several subsequent films in the series.

Her children are big reason why the One Night Only actress chose to partner with Pfizer for its “Living Through It All” campaign, which aims to encourage people to be proactive about their health while raising awareness to the infection/disease of pneumococcal pneumonia. The potentially serious bacterial lung illness can target even the healthiest of people, and has led to more than 1.2 million hospitalizations in the U.S. each year.

Noting that “it just seemed like a natural partnership,” Ringwald says: “I really try to keep myself as healthy as possible for me and for my kids.”

“I think that one thing that I’ve definitely learned is that sleep is really important and to make sure that I prioritize that. Luckily, I have a husband who—[I think we] co-parent together really well. He takes a lot of the early calls, which is is really helpful for me,” she shares. “I think taking care of my health and making sure that I’m staying up on my doctor’s appointments and staying up on my vaccinations and really looking at what’s going on with my immune system [helps me]. That’s all you really can do is make sure you go see your doctor and talk to your doctor about what’s right for you.”

Survivor 51 is here! Every week, Parade.com’s Mike Bloom will bring you interviews with the castaway most recently voted off the island.

It was Night 10 of Survivor 51. And Linnea Capobianco was getting screwed.

Five days ago, she could never have imagined she’d be in such a position. After all, the entrepreneur had helped lead the charge in her very first vote of the season. She, Sharonda Cox and Alexis Levine had all grown wary of Ana Sani after she began throwing them under the bus to each other. And so, while Savu had an easy boot teed up in Eric Macksoud, they were fit to be tied enough to orchestrate a blindside, ending the voice actress’s time in the (voting) booth.

What then occurred over the following five days was a series of incredibly improbable events that culminated in quite the change of position for Linnea. Carter Krull got chosen by random draw to go visit the other tribe’s camp the day after getting blindsided. Leaving his bag in the open, the Toka tribe went through his things, realizing there was an advantage hidden in their camp. A mad scramble ensued, and while Brady Booker was able to get his hands on the Extra Vote inside the tribe’s oar, he gave it to Maggie Nestor after she simply asked him to do so. Carter chose (or perhaps was forced) to stay with Toka, where he joined forces with Lewis Kelly to flip the vote and keep Daniel Kilby in the game.

At the tribe swap, Linnea was part of the new Dina sixsome, sent off to a new beach. But while they were forced to start over, it was very clear yellow and purple still ran through the red tribe. The two former Toka members, Kilby and Lewis, tried everything to stay in the game, including the latter attempting to fabricate a “Blood Ring” that he got on Exile Island. The two were bailed out by another advantage, though. Maggie’s tribe had won the challenge, and she was chosen at random to not only visit another beach, but give one person an Extra Vote. It just so happened that she also had another Extra Vote, meaning she had two ballots to give away. And two people who happened to be in desperate need of them.

Sitting at Tribal Council, Linnea and the other Savus believed the luck of the Irish was not in Lewis’s favor. But she was floored to find not two, not three, but four votes with her name on them. The Toka twosome used their new trinkets to incredible effect, forcing a 4-4 deadlock. And, when it came to the going to rocks, the Canadian “stood on business” to the business owner, refusing to flip against Lewis. After so many random draws got them to this place, the former Savus decided they didn’t want their game to lie in the hands of another one. So as Lewis and Kilby basked in the afterglow of a once-in-a-lifetime move, Linnea walked out of the game feeling quite the opposite of pleasured.

Now out of the game, Linnea talks with Parade about everything that went down at that wild Tribal Council, why she felt so hurt by Kilby turning on her, and why she feels the three-tribe format is dictated by twists, not social capital.

So of course we need to start with the absolutely ridiculous set of events at that last Tribal Council. When you saw that fourth parchment come around with your name on it, what was your reaction?
I thought I was good at math! I was in the math club in middle school. I’m good at math. The numbers just kept coming. I was truly flabbergasted. We started off four vs. two. Suddenly it was four vs. four. I mean, the math was not mathing, Mr. Bloom! And it was all because of an angel named Maggie. Not an angel for me, but an angel for the two people on the bottom of my tribe.

Talk to me more about that. I’m not sure if you even thought your name would show up on one parchment, let alone four. What was your reaction when you found out that Maggie wanted Kilby and Lewis to use her Extra Votes to specifically go after you?
Maggie, I’m so confused! The most interaction we had was a hug at marooning on the first day, and then a one-minute chat when she came and delivered those evil advantages to Lewis and Kilby. What was a girl to do?! I have no idea why she came for me. I understand I have a loud, projecting voice, which I definitely was using during challenges. Maybe she heard that. It was brutal. I don’t know why she came for me.

I want to talk about your reaction to Kilby specifically voting for you. You told him at Tribal Council how much that move hurt you. How sincere was that?
It was really sincere. Something they really did not show at all is my relationship with Kilby. He was my number one Day 1 alliance at marooning. Kilby was the only person that I bonded with for more than two minutes. We left everyone and hiked a mountain looking for advantages for at least 20 minutes. And when that helicopter came in, we actually had to run back. We were the last ones there. I had a serious relationship with Kilby, and it progressed to the point of Dina where we were thrilled to be on the same tribe. We were winking at each other during challenges leading up to tribe swap. The bond was there; the bond was real. And the betrayal was really painful.

How were you feeling about him by the time you had left the game? It seemed like you shrugged him off when he said he was sorry and offered a hug.
I’m a gracious gal. I did give him a hug. But while I was hugging him, he said, “I effed up. I screwed up.” And that sort of enraged me because I was like, “Really?! You can’t even own it?! But also, take it back. Please take it back. You have the opportunity. I don’t have to go get my torch snuff right now. Please take it back.”

Is that why you left your torch behind? Because you were hoping for Kilby to undo it?
[Laughs.] Exactly. Getting my torch snuff, I was trying to avoid that. That’s why I left it there.

What about Lewis? In the episode, it makes it seem like you were his only “option” among the former Savus. Talk to me about your relationship.
When I got to the Dina camp. Lewis was extremely ill. He was legitimately pooping his pants on the floor, asleep. And so I didn’t actually have the time to even approach a serious relationship with Lewis in any capacity in terms of an alliance. And so I just kept bonding with Kilby and my Savu members. So while I think the door was open when we first got to Dina, it did close. Because I just continued forming and fostering relationships with everyone else except for Lewis.

What was your reaction to his fake “Blood Ring” advantage? Did you believe it?
Okay, yes, my jaw dropped. Everyone saw my jaw drop for like every single thing this season. I had no idea I did that until watching this season. But no, we did not believe it. Cristian is a jewelry expert and convinced us immediately, “This is nothing to worry about.”

As the night went along, and the votes deadlocked, were you surprised to see Cristian, Eric, and Sharonda choose to not go to rocks?
Oof, I had a pit in my stomach for sure. I knew that Alexis, my number one, would have absolutely gone to rocks, and other people would have too. I loved my Savu alliance; they were a little softer than I expected during that moment. But I also get it. It was a three-to-one situation. So most likely, someone from my alliance would have gone home had they gone to rocks. So I get it. I wish my girl Alexis was there! She would have gone to rocks, and I think I would have too for any one of those people. It’s an exciting Survivor moment for sure.

You really would have gone to rocks for them if you were in that situation?
I would like to say yes. Particularly Sharonda. That’s who I was closest with at that point.

Let’s rewind back to your days on Savu. You seemed to be one of the people leading the charge at the last minute to take out Ana over Eric. Why did you decide to flip the votes against her?
It was the fact that Ana was coming for me rather than Eric was coming for me. And Ana was aligned with Carter and Rob, who really made it very clear that they did not want to work with me in the game. And so if I had to destroy an alliance, it was the evil three of those guys, rather than Eric, who was totally open to working with me.

Talk to me more about that. How were Ana, Carter and Rob making it seem like they didn’t want to work with you?
I had some awkward conversations with Carter, being like, “Let’s work together. How’s it going?” You can feel a vibe. The vibe was not there. I like him as a person. In the game, we were not aligned.

What’s interesting is that, speaking of Carter, the edit makes it seem like you overheard him tell Ori the crabs are “onto us,” which you mistakenly believe is about you. Was that really the case?
It’s valid in the sense that Carter was talking about me, Rob was talking about me, Ana was talking about me. Granted, yes, they were talking about crabs in that particular moment. But they were also talking about me a bajillion other times and ways. So the sentiment was there, but they were talking about crabs. I was the crabs for them.

You mentioned Alexis being your number one. Who were you working closest with by the time the swap happened?
Alexis was my number one, and Sharonda and Ori were up there too. And one of the reasons the tribe swap was so devastating for me is that my number one got separated from me. And I just want to explain the difference between two tribes versus three tribes with the social game. With two large tribes, it’s the social game that leads the chaos, right? It’s the backstabbing, it’s the manipulation. Whereas with three smaller tribes, it’s the advantages and the twists that lead the chaos. Because the votes can potentially be more predictable. The alliances are drawn more strictly, potentially, with a smaller tribe, and so it’s the twists that lead to the chaos. And some of your social game can go out the window even when you’re in the majority, which is exactly what happened to me. And I lost my number one, which was devastating.

Well, speaking of two tribes, let’s say the swap doesn’t happen, and the seven-person Savu tribe goes back to Tribal Council. Who do you think would have gone there?
It would have been so interesting. We were living in the Savu vibes at that point. We were a strong seven. The vibes were immaculate, which would have made the vote out all the more interesting. I actually don’t know which way it would have gone, because there were a lot of little groups in there. I had multiple things going on. It could have gone any which way.

Perhaps to that point of having “multiple things going on,” we hear Carter tell the Toka tribe that you and Sharonda were running the show on Savu. Were you aware of that perception? What’s your reaction to that?
I was aware of that. After the Ana vote, first of all, Rob didn’t come back to camp. He slept on the beach because he was so hurt…emotionally. And Carter came back, and the first person he wanted to talk to was me. I felt like I was kind of leading the conversation with him, and he was like, “I guess I’m on the bottom. I guess Linnea is running the show.” That was the sentiment, and I was worried that it was going to get back to the other tribe, and it did because Carter mutinied.

Speaking of the mutiny, it truly is ludicrous the number of things that had to happen in a particular way for you to be talking with me today, from Carter getting picked to mutiny to Toka going through his bag and finding the advantage to Maggie being the person randomly drawn to visit your camp and bring a deus ex machina of two Extra Votes. Is the fact that so much had to happen to get you out give you any solace? Or does it just fire you up even more?
What was a girl to do?! Literally, what was I supposed to do? No, none of the randomness makes it feel any better, potentially worse. I don’t like stuff like that. I like having the opportunity to be strategic, and a lot of that was stolen from me. So I’m devastated. So much randomness. And it’s Survivor; it happens. It’s sad, nevertheless.

Daft Punk may have called it quits more than five years ago, but the robots are getting ready to come alive again, this time in LEGO form.

The LEGO Group and Daft Punk announced a new partnership on Oct. 22 that will bring the influential electronic duo into the LEGO universe through products, content and other experiences, with the first major project already in development.

A fan-designed LEGO Ideas set based on Daft Punk’s famous pyramid stage from the duo’s 2007 Alive tour has officially been greenlit to become a LEGO set.

The design began as a lockdown project created by Luxembourg-based Patrick Harboun and his son, who bonded over their shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building. The model first won the Grand Prize in the LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020. It later reached the crucial milestone of 10,000 supporters on the LEGO Ideas platform.

Now, six years later, the concept is advancing into development as an official LEGO product.

“This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building,” Patrick said in a statement. “We never dared imagine it would take off in this way.”

He added that seeing their project become part of an official Daft Punk collaboration was “an incredible experience.”

The proposed set recreates the pyramid stage that became one of the defining images of Daft Punk’s Alive 2007 tour. LEGO stressed that the fan model revealed with the announcement is not the final product, so the eventual retail set could differ from the original design.

“The pyramid stage is one of the most recognisable expressions of Daft Punk’s visual world, so it feels fitting that this fan-created design will be centre stage of this partnership,” Daft Punk creative director Cédric Hervet said.

The LEGO set is only the beginning.

LEGO and Daft Punk said their new partnership will span products, content, events and other experiences combining music and LEGO building, with additional projects planned for 2027.

The companies kicked off the collaboration with a new film featuring LEGO minifigure versions of Daft Punk’s famous robot personas. The film uses two songs from the duo’s catalog: “Voyager,” from the 2001 album Discovery, and “Human After All,” the title track from their 2005 album.

Fans actually received their first clue one day before the official announcement.

On Oct. 21, viewers tuning in to Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7 encountered an unexplained 30-second transmission featuring a red 2×4 LEGO brick. Viewed from behind, the brick’s three internal tubes were positioned to resemble speaker woofers.

Daft Punk nation is absolutely over the moon about the new set. On Instagram, one fan wrote, “Oh my god my worlds are colliding YESSSSS LFG!,” and another fan wrote, “NO WAY!!! ITS HAPPENING!!!!🔥🔥.” A third added, “FIIIIIINALLY! Two of my all time favorite things.”

It may even get a whole new audience into LEGO, as one fan commented, “I have never built a Lego set…but this will definitely be my first one! 😍🔥.”

“What makes this partnership so special is the enduring appeal both brands share,” LEGO Group Chief Product & Marketing Officer Julia Goldin said in a statement. “Like the LEGO brand, Daft Punk inspires generations through creativity, innovation and a deep connection with fans.”

Goldin also teased that LEGO has considerably more planned for the collaboration.

“This is just the beginning of a bigger journey,” she said.

Daft Punk, consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, formed in Paris in 1993 and became one of the most influential electronic acts of their generation. Their albums include Homework, Discovery, Human After All and Random Access Memories, the latter of which won Album of the Year at the Grammys.

The duo announced their breakup in 2021 after nearly three decades together, but their distinctive robot personas and music have remained deeply embedded in pop culture.

Now those robots are being rebuilt, quite literally, one brick at a time.
