Television fans who know Brett Goldstein from his acting roles—most notably his Emmy-winning breakout performance as gruff footballer Roy Kent in the Apple TV seriesTed Lasso—might be surprised to learn how multi-faceted the London-born star's Hollywood career really is.

Sydney Towle is on hospice.

On August 4, Sydney's brother, Austin Towle, shared an update on his sister's health.

"Sydney has been moved to hospice and is surrounded by her friends and family. Thank you all for your love and support," he wrote, sharing a photo of Sydney's loved ones gathered around her hospital bed.

Millions of people have been following Sydney's story since she was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare bile duct cancer, three years ago. Fans who have become internet family have been cheering, hoping, and praying for Sydney as she underwent a variety of treatments in an effort to beat the disease. This latest update has left everyone heartbroken.

"My stomach dropped. Was hoping to never see this post. Sending love," one TikTok user commented on Austin's post.

"Austin, thank you for being such a good big brother and updating us. Please tell your sweet sister how incredibly loved she is and how much of a difference she has made in the lives of complete strangers," someone else said.

"I’m crying for someone I don’t know. We love you, Syd," a third comment read.

Throughout the course of her illness, Sydney was known for being upbeat and positive and always did her best to spread love through pain. She documented her ups and downs over the past several months, and has amassed more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok.

Sydney most recently shared a post from one of her favorite bands, Royel Otis, who dedicated a song to her during a recent concert.

More than four decades after U2 released their signature anthem "Sunday Bloody Sunday," the iconic track remains one of rock music's most impactful songs.

With a slew of standout tracks and chart-topping hits, the band's 1983 anthem earned a spot on the 10 Greatest Protest Songs in Classic Rock.

In a ranking released by Collider, the compilation highlights the most influential and powerful songs that convey social, political or anti-war messages.

From Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 song "Fortunate Son" and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Ohio" to Bob Dylan's "Masters of War," which claimed the top three spots, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" ranked No. 6.

Written by lead singer Bono while guitarist The Edge developed much of the music, the song was inspired by the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre in Derry, Northern Ireland, where 13 unarmed civil rights protesters were shot dead by British soldiers.

Although "Sunday Bloody Sunday" was a direct response to the massacre, Bono clarified that it was never meant to be a "rebel song," a point he famously emphasized with his iconic concert introduction: "This is not a rebel song."

Instead, it was the band's way of condemning the bloodshed and mourning the loss of innocent lives affected by the conflict.

The song also served as the opening track on U2's acclaimed 1983 album War.

At the time, it became one of U2’s most enduring songs,  despite never reaching No. 1, as the band opted not to release it as a commercial single.

Amid its enduring popularity, there was a time when U2 almost quit playing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" live.

Bono previously recalled that the band was scheduled to perform in Belfast, the heart of the decades-long conflict known as the Troubles.

At the time, the rock band was unsure how the audience would react and was ready to stop performing the song live.

“I walked to the microphone; I didn’t know what I was going to say,” he recalled as cited by Far Out Magazine. “In fact, what I said to them was, ‘If you don’t like this song, if you don’t like it, we will never play it again.’ At the end of the song, the crowd virtually pulled the concert hall down in the most joyful way that a concert hall could be pulled down. It was a joyful riot if you could imagine such a thing.”

The impact of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" has made it a timeless symbol of peace and resistance while cementing the band's legacy in rock history.

Juno Temple is one of the stars of Ted Lasso. She plays Keeley Jones, an iconic character who works as the Head of Marketing in the Apple TV series. Jones recently tied the knot with her partner, Michal Szymanski, whom she met on the set of the show.

Temple hasn’t spoken about her relationship much publicly. However, she did mention Szymanski in a 2024 interview with the Los Angeles Times. “My dialect coach, Liz Himelstein, did the original Fargo movie and has done every season since,” she revealed. “I started working with her while I was shooting Ted Lasso, which was interesting for my fiancé. He was like, ‘There’s a lot of people in this apartment right now—Keely, Juno and Dot.’”

Temple confirmed the wedding when appearing in an episode of TFI Unplugged along with her other costars, Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brendan Hunt. Temple shared, "I got married, we met on season two of Ted Lasso."

According to Hello! Magazine, Szymanski was working as a driver for her co-star, Waddingham, when the pair first met. "He was driving Hannah, and they had a secret code where I could go and meet them, and accidentally Hannah's appointment would run over," Temple revealed.

Waddingham admitted that she gave him a warning. "Look after my girl, or I will punch you square in the face,” she said before adding, “They are the greatest oxygen to each other in the universe."

Szymanski is also an actor. He has appeared in projects like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, First Love, and Signs. The pair have been seen walking red carpets together at the Critics Choice Awards in 2024 and the premiere of Venom: The Last Dance.

Ted Lasso recently returned for its fourth season, which will consist of ten episodes. They will be releasing weekly on Wednesdays. The season will follow Lasso as he starts coaching AFC Richmond’s new women’s team, The Lady Greyhounds.

Jimmy Fallon had some fun with President Donald Trump’s claims that the U.S. is holding peace talks with Iran, unveiling a hilarious “top secret” recording that supposedly proved the negotiations were real.

During his latest Tonight Show monologue, Fallon mocked the confusing back-and-forth surrounding Trump’s Iran comments, joking that the president released “secret audio” of talks after Iran denied they were happening. The comedian also took aim at reports that the U.S. military was seeking “creative” ways to pressure Iran, turning the tense international situation into a series of absurd punchlines.

Fallon opened the segment by joking about reports that the U.S. had used up much of its long-range missile supply, quipping that the country’s backup plan was to send Iran “thousands of Lime scooters” and hope they injured themselves.

He then shifted to Trump’s claim that the U.S. was engaged in peace talks with Iran — a claim Iran denied — and imagined the president releasing a “top secret” recording as proof.

“So he just released some top secret audio of the negotiations that he’s definitely been having,” Fallon joked before rolling into a fake clip parodying Trump’s alleged peace talks.

Fallon continued roasting the Iran situation by parodying reports that the military was looking for unconventional ways to pressure the country. He introduced a fictional General Ethan Thorne, who offered bizarre suggestions ranging from inviting Iran to dinner and giving them the cold shoulder to launching an “Operation French Toast Pillows.”

The fake general eventually abandoned the ridiculous ideas for a serious foreign policy response, prompting Fallon to mock him with repeated calls for a “diplomatic off-ramp.”

The jokes came as late-night hosts continued using Trump’s foreign policy statements and political controversies as material for satire. Fallon later switched gears, aiming at summer movies with a ridiculous Paw Patroltrailer parody and other entertainment jokes.

All four lounges impressed us, but Top of the World Lounge stole our hearts. This elegantly villain-themed hideaway lets members watch the Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks from a private terrace, with the show's synchronized soundtrack piped in for full effect.

“My favorite part of Top of the World Lounge is enjoying one of the best views of the Happily Ever After fireworks with minimal crowds, and it’s complimentary for eligible members,” said Disney Vacation Club member Christina Skowronek, a planDisney panelist.

We booked the Wicked Wind Down experience, a paid package that includes a table inside the lounge plus one drink, appetizer, and dessert per person—and it was one of the best meals I've had on Disney property. The portions are generous and the drinks are delicious. Our family shared a spread of herb-roasted shrimp, a hummus platter, two types of flatbread and a warm pretzel. And dessert was a showstopper: a towering slice of the chef's signature multilayered chocolate cake of the day.

Afterward, we stepped out onto the private terrace for a spectacular fireworks show. It was an evening our family will never forget.

As a family that often travels with kids, parents and grandparents, I've come to appreciate just how much a larger room can transform a trip. But it wasn't until I toured the Disney Vacation Club lodging at Disney's Riviera Resort and Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows that I realized how many configurations exist for families of every size. Studios, one-, two- and even three-bedroom villas are available at many resorts. My favorite was the three-bedroom Grand Villa at Disney's Riviera Resort: a jaw-dropping 2,530 square feet that sleeps up to 12 adults and is decorated beautifully. (Also, I want to live there.)

Non-members can technically book Disney Vacation Club properties through the standard resort system, but the largest villas are so popular they're released first to members (and some are reserved exclusively for member booking), making it much harder for non-members to snag one. If spacious accommodations are a priority, membership is the way to go.

I first noticed the real value of Disney Vacation Club membership this past June, when our server at Biergarten Restaurant in EPCOT mentioned that members received 40 percent off lunch.

That's a substantial discount, and it's far from the only one. Members regularly save 10 to 40 percent on dining, merchandise, annual passes and special events. During Welcome Home Weeks, several of our go-to table-service restaurants offered that same 40 percent discount, including Hollywood & Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Tusker House Restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Trattoria al Forno at Disney's BoardWalk.

I knew members had access to exclusive events, but I hadn’t realized how special they were until we attended one ourselves. Moonlight Magic at Disney's Hollywood Studios is a private complimentary nighttime celebration for members, featuring character interactions, short wait times, DJ dance parties, a special showing of Fantasmic! and complimentary snacks and ice cream.

At our event, we spotted Chewbacca and R2-D2 while wandering Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, spun through Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land and posed for photos with WALL-E, as well as Ian and Barley from Pixar's Onward. We snacked on Jack-Jack's Num Num Cookies, Mickey pretzels, churros and Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars. Especially during the sweltering summer months, there was something wonderfully refreshing about exploring a theme park at night without hats and sunscreen.

Moonlight Magic events typically take place eight to 10 times a year across different parks, and members can generally register for one event per season (winter, spring, summer or fall) so there are multiple options for members. On the bus to the event, we chatted with a family from Tampa who told us these private evenings are among their favorite parts of membership.

But long before it became a wedding staple, the hit almost didn't see the light of day. Bon Jovi liked the tune, but perhaps not enough for it to land on the band's third LP, Slippery When Wet.

“It wasn’t that I didn’t want to record it. But I wasn’t all that impressed on the day that we wrote it,” the Grammy winner told PEOPLE Magazine.

He added that the first thing they created was the "simple chord progression, the melodies and the lyrics." The track's enduring bass line "came to life in the demo studio, when we took it back to the band and worked it up. That's how it became what it is."

Bon Jovi concluded, "We knew what we wanted, we just didn't have it, and so I was like, 'Yeah, it's good. Good day. Good day at the office,' and I was wrong. It's one of the biggest songs in our catalog."

"Livin' On a Prayer" reached the No. 1 position on Billboard's Top 100 on February 14, 1987, two months after its December 1986 release. It remained at the top spot for four weeks.

Additionally, the singer and songwriter told PBS NewsHour the song "evolved" from what was originally put to paper with Sambora and Child. "It was a very simple chord structure, the melody, the lyric, we knew all that," he began.

"But it came to life when the band got in the room. Tico came in playing the drums, and that's when it popped. That's when the key change happened," he continued.

"It was written with an acoustic guitar and a piano," Bon Jovi concluded. "It wasn't the first single on the album. 'You Give Love a Bad Name' was the first single. 'Prayer' was the second single and was so different."

"Livin' On a Prayer" hardly feels like a relic from 1986. Nearly 40 years later, it’s still the one track guaranteed to pull everyone from kids to grandparents onto the dance floor together.

Kingdom of Giants, the melodic metalcore band, is celebrating a major career milestone as they announced a headlining tour across North America this fall.

In an Instagram update, the California band revealed the details of their 26-date trek from November to December, kicking things off in Washington and concluding the run in California.

Fans will get to see the metalcore veterans fronted by Dana Willax embark on their first headlining tour in nine years following their last headlining trek in 2017 for the All The Hell You’ve Got To Spare Tour, which celebrated the release of their third studio album of the same name.

Apart from that, the trek will also mark new bassist and clean vocalist JT Gutierrez’s first tour with the band after joining in June.

He replaced longtime member Jonny Reeves, who departed to join The Amity Affliction.

Adding to the excitement, Kingdom of Giants will share the stage with three special guests.

“When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)” was a popular Beach Boys song released in 1964. It was written by 21-year-old Brian Wilson and 22-year-old Mike Love. The song reached No. 9 in the US and No. 1 in Canada.

According to The American Songwriter, Wilson told Goldmine Magazine, ”I was inspired about what it was gonna be like to grow up. Will I like the things then as I did now? I wrote that in my early twenties. As I look back on that, I am happy with my life now, and I didn’t think I would be.”

In the memoir I Am Brian Wilson, he went into more detail about the song. He said, “I think about the crazy year of 1964, and I think about one of the most important songs from that crazy year, ‘When I Grow Up (to Be a Man).’ We did that song in early August, and it was out by the end of the month. That’s how fast everything went back then. The building was going up overnight. We did that song at Western, too, in room three, which was the best. We did almost 40 takes over six days. Can you believe that? 40 takes?”

He continued, “It’s exhausting to look at and to think of how far we went in search of the perfect thing. We didn’t know we were making history. But that’s what we were making.”

Love also wrote about the inspiration behind the song in Good Vibrations: My Life As A Beach Boy. He claimed it was inspired by Wilson's father, the band’s former manager. “Murry had bullied Brian for years," he said. "But he increasingly called into question his manhood. ‘If you were a man, you would tell Mike to stand closer to the microphone. If you were a man, you would tell [fellow Beach Boys] Carl and Dennis to brush up on their harmonies. If you were a man …’ Man came up all the time, which probably influenced Brian’s idea behind our 1964 song, ‘When I Grow Up (to Be a Man).’”

The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Some of their other big hits include “Good Vibrations,” “Surfin’ USA,” “I Get Around,” and “California Girls.”

Molly Ringwald could have had Demi Moore’s iconic Ghost role — but the ’80s teen queen turned it down and now admits she regrets missing out on the supernatural blockbuster.

Ringwald is famously known for passing on several major roles, including Pretty Woman, Working Girland The Silence of the Lambs. But during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she revealed that turning down Ghost is the decision she still thinks about.

“But Demi is great in it. So good for Demi, she did a great job,” Ringwald told a stunned Andy Cohen.

Cohen pointed out that playing artist Molly Jensen could have “changed the entire trajectory” of her career, prompting Ringwald to admit, “It was just not meant to be.” At the time, Ringwald reportedly said she passed on the film because she didn’t connect with the script or the material.

The actress has previously opened up about why she declined other high-profile roles, including Pretty Woman. “Julia Roberts was wonderful in it, but I didn’t really like the story. Even then, I felt like there was something icky about it,” she told The Guardian.

As for The Silence of the Lambs and Working Girl, Ringwald said she struggled to find the right opportunities after becoming a teen star. “I didn’t really feel like darker roles were available to me. The ones that I wanted to do, I didn’t get. I was too young for certain roles. I was at this weird in-between stage,” she explained.

During the Watch What Happens Live appearance, Ringwald also reflected on another iconic role, revealing the The Breakfast Club character she found the most frustrating to play.

“Claire in The Breakfast Club is kind of annoying,” she said, with Cohen agreeing: “She can be.”

Ringwald recently starred in the Off-Broadway revival of Are You Now or Have You Ever Been and is set to appear in the film One Night Only and the final season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

In the 1970s, Fonzie was a pop culture icon. Played by Henry Winkler on Happy Days, the character became the definition of cool with his leather jacket, perfect hair, and signature “Aaaay.” But one memorable scene pushed the Fonz beyond cool — making him seem almost superhuman. And it took place years before he jumped the shark.

The episode, titled "Three on a Porch," aired on Nov. 18, 1975, in the show’s third season, the first in which Fonzie became a central character. The storyline centered on Richie (Ron Howard), Potsie (Anson Williams), and Ralph (Don Most) trying to pick up girls at a lake resort, with Fonzie along to camp out with the gang.

In the closing scene, Fonzie tries to sleep under the stars but is kept awake by a chorus of noisy animals in the forest. As he rests his head on a log, footage is shown of birds, frogs, an owl, and a raccoon all making sounds. An irritated Fonzie soon sits up and lets out a two-word command: “Cool it!” The forest falls silent, and the Fonz lies down to rest with a final comment, “Let’s see Tarzan do that.”

The scene is pure Fonzie—and a step above the usual jukebox lyric and mirror/comb routine that helped define his cool.

Happy Days creator Garry Marshall once told The Guardian that he modeled the Fonzie character after a tough guy he knew as a kid.

“I grew up in the Bronx and patented him off a guy in my neighborhood called Anthony who could tie a rope to an ice truck and pull it along with his teeth. I always thought that was magical,” Marshall shared. “The furthest we took his ‘magic’ was when the gang went camping in the woods. All the crickets and owls were making loads of noise, and he says: ‘Cool it!’ And they stop instantly.”

Fifty years after the Fonzie silenced a forest, fans still talk about the moment on fan forums and social media.

“He’s so cool that even nature won't cross him,” one fan wrote in a YouTube comment.

“Nocturnal nature finds out Fonzie is in command as far as his surroundings, when sleeping outside!!!” another wrote.

“Cool it and the whole forest quits down ...now that’s power,” a third chimed in.

“It's 2026, have not seen this episode since it originally aired, I still think about this scene and laugh," added another fan.

“He went camping in his leather jacket and lies down to sleep but the wildlife and birds are keeping him awake so he tells them to “Cool It!” And they do, of course, because he’s the Fonz,” another fan recently wrote on Reddit.

Another fan called it the scene the show’s true “jump the shark moment,” writing, "He sits up and says ‘cool it’ and there is absolute silence. I think that was his first superhuman deed.”

Winkler once noted that he never wanted Fonzie to be a cliché cool guy, and he certainly wasn't.

"Everyone who's ever played a Fonz-like cool character has always done the same things: combed their hair, stuck cigarette packets up the sleeve of their T-shirt. I swore I wouldn't do any of that," Winkler explained to The Guardian. "I got the 'Heeeey' and the 'Whoaaa' from my favorite sport at the time: horse-riding.”

Seth Meyers may be on hiatus, but his Late Night team delivered a reminder that some Trump jokes never go out of style. The comedian’s old-school takedown of Donald Trump’s White House ballroom obsession still lands, proving that sometimes the joke writes itself.

In the resurfaced monologue, Meyers mocked Trump’s plans for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, questioning why the president was focused on creating a lavish addition instead of addressing the country’s bigger problems. The comedian took aim at the project’s massive size, rising costs, and the demolition plans that turned the proposed ballroom into a political battle.

“It would be bad enough if Trump’s biggest priority was building a gilded vanity project for himself,” Meyers joked. “But it’s so much worse because, to do it, he’s tearing down a somewhat well-known and beloved piece of property. You may have heard of it. The White House!”

Meyers also mocked Trump’s priorities, comparing him to a high school senior who had already been accepted into college and was more focused on planning prom than doing his homework. “That’s what you took away from your first term?” he cracked. "You left the country in ruins. There was a pandemic, a crime wave, a recession. You didn't want to fix any of that?"

The comedian then turned his attention to the price tag, noting that the ballroom was initially pitched as a privately funded project before Republicans pushed for taxpayer support.

After playing a clip of Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham arguing that private donations could be used for “china and stuff like that,” Meyers launched into a mock impression of the senator defending his dinnerware.

“They can use donations to buy china ’cause I ain’t giving ’em mine!” Meyers joked. “I need my china for my dinner parties, even though my meemaw keeps telling me no one’s ever gonna come to my parties.”

Meyers saved one of his sharpest jokes for Trump’s claim that the ballroom was “under budget” despite the project doubling in size. The comedian mocked the logic, comparing it to someone claiming they stuck to a diet while eating twice as many burgers. “If the price doubled, that’s not under budget,” Meyers joked.

My favorite Cape Cod trip was two weeks in one car with my husband and my daughter, and the thing I remember most is how little we had to plan.

We crossed the Sagamore and the rest just unfolded based on what we saw. We'd grab fresh lobster rolls from whatever shack appeared when we got hungry, would pull off for long walks on beaches we spotted from the driver's seat, and would snap lighthouse views any chance we got.

That's what makes the Cape so special. You don't have to drive far to stumble into a quaint town hugging a shoreline, cranberry bogs and shingled cottages and penny-candy stores. You can vacation at a pace slow enough that a seventy-year-old and a seven-year-old can both share in the enjoyment, and nobody is feeling rushed.

Part of the charm is the variety: the Cape is 70 miles long with 15 towns, all of which have something different and unique to offer. So I asked Angela Prout, co-founder of Shored Up Digital, what makes a town the right choice for not just a small family unit like mine, but one that includes aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, and more.

“A town works for three generations when it doesn’t force anyone into a compromise that will be unpleasant or uncomfortable, and options are accessible, with elements for everyone in the group to enjoy themselves," she says. "On the Cape, flat, short walks from parking to sand for aging knees and stroller wheels are ideal, plus enough going on that teenagers aren’t bored and toddlers aren’t overstimulated. It also needs a good selection of family-friendly restaurants that can seat a table of ten without a two-hour wait."

When I asked her which towns she'd recommend for this type of trip, she broke it down for us. So whether you're going for a long weekend or two weeks, these towns will give you the quintessential charm the Cape is known for in a routine that works for everybody.

Chatham

Everything in Chatham funnels to Main Street, and for good reason. "Chatham has a dense and walkable Main Street that keeps everyone entertained without a car," Prout says. Park once and work the rest on foot: the Chatham Candy Manor has been hand-dipping fudge since 1955, Yellow Umbrella Books is like straight out of a 90's movie, and the Ben Franklin five-and-dime sells the beach toys you most likely forgot.

Lunch or dinner is the Chatham Squire, the town's tavern. As a splurge, stay at Chatham Bars Inn, the 1914 grande dame above the fish pier, where, in early afternoon, the boats come in and seals crowd the observation deck. Friday nights in summer, bring chairs to the band concert at Kate Gould Park.

"Grandparents and young kids tend to peel off to calmer beaches or town centers by late morning, while teens and younger adults go find surf, kayaking, or bike trails, then everyone reconverges for dinner. Chatham handles this split especially well because it has both a walkable town center and beach access close enough that regrouping doesn't require a long drive," Prout says.

Falmouth

Falmouth has something no other Cape town can offer a mixed-age group—a way to cover far more ground without a single hill (a beacon for those 70+). The Shining Sea Bikeway runs 10.7 miles from North Falmouth to Woods Hole, and every foot of it flat and paved. You'll pass a cranberry bog and the Sippewissett salt marsh with a swim stop at Surf Drive Beach. Oddly enough, my daughter rode the whole thing without a complaint, which tells you a grandparent could too. The path ends where the Martha's Vineyard ferry leaves right from the village dock, and watching it go is a favorite activity for both kids and adults alike.

Back in town, give the kids an hour at Eight Cousins, the children's bookstore in the heart of Main Street since 1986, then get the surf-and-turf at the Quarterdeck, where the dining room is paneled in old maritime salvage. We stayed at the Coonamessett Inn, the old wedding inn on seven acres of gardens. Each room has iron beds, and you can't go to sleep without a slice of Eli's Tavern's famous carrot cake (which is big enough to split three ways).

Yarmouth

Yarmouth is one of Cape Cod's more budget-friendly picks, which is perfect for large groups. Route 28 runs through town with three straight miles of mini golf, fried clam shacks, and ice cream windows. Play the 18 holes at Pirate's Cove, where the course winds through caves and under waterfalls, then get a waffle cone at Cape Cod Creamery, whose flavors are named for Cape places. The Monomoy Mud Pie was my absolute go-to (I had it twice). When somebody wants a real meal, Captain Parker's Pub on the Parker River has won best chowder at the Cape's chowder festivals more times than any other kitchen. The Red Jacket Beach Resort sits right on the sand next to Smugglers Beach, the flat-sand, close-parking pick from Prout's list above, with pools for when the kids have reached their breaking point, and mom and grandma need some quiet book time.

Yarmouth is also one of the towns where a big group's rental budget goes furthest. "Yarmouth tends to have lower price points than Chatham or Orleans," Prout says. "In general, groups should be booking by March or April; the larger, well-located houses are largely gone as the season approaches. Also consider renting a block of adjoining rooms at a hotel or motel that is accessible to a downtown."

Orleans

Orleans has two very different beaches within ten minutes of each other, and between them they cover every age in the car. Nauset Beach faces the open Atlantic with real surf, real dunes, and the beach the teenagers will ask to go back to, while Skaket, on the bay side, suits the youngest and oldest. At low tide, the water pulls back to reveal a sandbar so flat you can walk for close to a mile, with tidal pools warm and shallow enough for a toddler to sit in and play. Just check the tide chart before hauling everyone to Skaket, though, because at high tide most of the beach disappears.

Everyone (locals and tourists) eat at Land Ho!, the tavern on Main Street that's been covered in license plates and business signs since 1969, and the Hot Chocolate Sparrow is the go-to for dessert, with hot chocolate, penny candy, and espresso for whoever's driving. The Little Inn onPleasant Bay, a bed and breakfast on a lawn that slopes toward the water, works if your group is small enough for a B&B. For larger groups, rent a house and remember Prout's March-or-April booking deadline. Orleans also borders the Cape Cod National Seashore, so you can hop over and explore the 40-mile coast at any speed.

Provincetown

Provincetown is the most famous town on the Cape and the least like the rest of it. Once an old Portuguese fishing port at the very tip of the peninsula has quickly became America's oldest art colony and one of its great LGBTQ+ beach towns, with drag marquees, gallery rows, and a smattering of fishing ports decorating the shore. Commercial Street is flat, benches face the parade, and the best entertainment in town is watching it go by, so grandparents and older adults can get time off their feet.

The Dolphin Fleet has run whale watches to Stellwagen Bank since 1975, and in peak summer, the humpbacks come close enough to hear them exhale. Get a hot sugar-rolled malasada at the Provincetown Portuguese Bakery, frying them since 1936. Marine Specialties, the cavernous army-navy shop down the street, is packed with enough odd treasures to keep a kid busy for an hour, most of it under five dollars. Dinner is at the Lobster Pot, the harborfront institution under the famous neon lobster sign, where the McNultys have run the dining rooms since 1979, the clam chowder has won the Cape Cod Chowder Festival four times, and the Portuguese soup, made with kale, linguica, red beans, is what the regulars order instead of the lobster.

Sandwich

Cross the canal and Sandwich is the first town you reach, which is fitting, because it's also where the Cape began. Settled in 1637, Prout picks it because it's slower and even more spontaneous. "I love Sandwich for its slower pace and the boardwalk that's genuinely stroller- and cane-friendly," Prout says. "And the boardwalk is where I'd start any morning here." It runs on old wooden planks across the salt marsh to Town Neck Beach, and the whole family can make the walk, with the grandparents at their pace and the kids racing ahead to count fiddler crabs in the mud below.

Stop into the grist mill on Shawme Pond after the Boardwalk, which has been grinding corn since 1654, and carry out a bag of meal ground that morning. At the Sandwich Glass Museum, a gaffer pulls molten glass from a 2,000-degree furnace while kids watch it turn into something tangible. Titcomb's Bookshop, in a barn on Route 6A, is the kind of store where three generations can easily disappear down three different aisles for an hour at a time. When it's time to eat, the Dan'l Webster Inn has been putting people up since the 1750s, when patriots met in the original tavern, over chowder and popovers in the glass-walled Conservatory. After dinner, take everyone up 6A to Twin Acres for ice cream after. And when the week ends, you're first back over the bridge, ahead of the Sunday traffic that punishes everyone who stayed farther out.

Know Before You Book

The mistakes that sink these trips happen months before anyone crosses a bridge, and Prout has watched all of them. “If renting a home, multigenerational groups might rent based on bedroom count alone and end up with one bathroom for 10 people, which is the fastest way to sour a vacation. Another mistake is over-scheduling, packing every day with activities instead of building in unstructured beach or porch time that lets different generations opt in or out," she says.

And when the weather turns, because at some point in a week, it will, she has the all-ages fallback ready. “The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster or the Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee gives young kids something hands-on while adults aren’t bored standing around," she says. "Ryan’s Family Amusements in Hyannis or The Lanes Bowl and Bistro in Mashpee offer great indoor entertainment. Pair that with a walk inside the Cape Cod Mall or at the Mashpee Commons, and there’s something to browse and something to taste that appeals to all age ranges without anyone needing significant mobility.”
