A year after The Killers performed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in honor of Warren Zevon, lead singer Brandon Flowers has reached a breaking point as he prepares to release his first solo album in 11 years. During his interview withThe Times, the 45-year-old frontman revealed he's gotten very close to quitting the music biz altogether: “I’m really going through it right now: How much longer do I want to do this, what does it mean, why am I doing it anyway?"

The Killers have been a synth pop rock music mainstay for 25 years, since their debut album Hot Fuss the Las Vegas act has made a neon-lit splash across the pond and around the world with countless hits such as "Mr. Brightside", "When You Were Young", "Human", "The Man" and "Shot at the Night" across a long catalogue of hit record releases. It's still fairly early on in their trajectory to take a step back, like My Chemical Romance before them, who stopped after 4 records to take a hiatus and aren't releasing new music as they tour The Black Parade for its anniversary.

For The Killers frontman, there's still creative gas in the tank, as his third solo album, inspired by his father's country roots, Thrasher, is set for release on August 21, 2026. For Flowers, the answer is found in the legends that continue to dominate the stage as they become aging rock icons. “Then I think of Mick Jagger and ask myself, 'What keeps him getting up on that stage?' Just a few months after their fairytale wedding, Donald Trump Jr. and his new bride, Bettina Trump, headed back to the Bahamas for a family fishing trip.

Bettina recently shared a cute carousel of pics, featuring herself, her hubby, and his children. But that’s not all! Donald Trump’s newest daughter-in-law also posted a snapshot of Don Jr. on her Instagram Stories with the title “Swoon. #HotHusband.” And based on the sweet sentiment, it looks like the couple’s honeymoon phase is far from over.

Even though Bettina is “swooning” over her guy, this wasn’t exactly a romantic couples-only vaycay. Unlike their last trip to the Bahamas, the most recent visit wasn’t all about kisses and cuddles. Instead, it was lobster, lobster, and more lobster.

Along with showing off their massive catch, Bettina also revealed a few rare family photos with Trump Jr.’s youngest daughter, 12-year-old Chloe, and 13-year-old Spencer. The dad of five’s other children (with ex-wife Vanessa Trump) did not appear to be with the couple on this vacation.

If you’re wondering where in the Bahamas the Trumps and their friends stayed, the post also includes an image of a note from the scenic private island…Little Pipe Cay (in Exuma). The handwritten letter reads, “Welcome home Mr. & Mrs. Trump! So happy to have our favorite newlyweds back. We hope you have yet another special weekend here.”

It's been a perilous summer if you love fast food. And with multiple foodborne illness outbreaks seemingly dominating the news cycle daily, it can feel like some of your favorite restaurants are constantly under the microscope.

Hot on the heels of a separate cyclospora outbreak linked to shredded lettuce, Chipotle is now stepping up as one of the first restaurants to take action amid an ongoing salmonella investigation. With jalapeños identified as a potential source of the illnesses, the chain is making immediate changes to stay ahead of the situation.

Chipotle Removes Jalapeños Amid Salmonella Investigation

In a statement, Chipotle announced that it had temporarily removed jalapeños from some of its restaurants after identifying the ingredient as a potential common source being investigated in the salmonella outbreak. The chain noted that it acted out of an "abundance of caution," swiftly removing the jalapeños and replacing them promptly with product from "different growers."

While Chipotle did not specify where the initial peppers came from, the chain did say that the jalapeños in question were sent across multiple states to several retailers. In addition, the Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed that its investigation is looking into several Mexican-style, quick-service restaurants, with 110 cases tied to the salmonella outbreak reported in the state.

What Is Salmonella?

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), salmonella are a group of bacteria that can cause foodborne illness with symptoms like diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and dehydration. While most people recover within a week, infections can be more severe for young children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Chipotle's cooperation and immediate action certainly help ease concerns surrounding the popular fast-service restaurant. Sure, it may be too soon to know if the outbreak will continue to spread, but it's reassuring to know that the chain values its customers by taking the necessary steps to identify the source. 

That said, having another outbreak to worry about so soon after the recent Taco Bell scare wasn't something we had on our bingo cards heading into the back half of summer. Here's hoping Chipotle has the situation contained and that the bacteria doesn't spread to more of our favorite restaurants. In the meantime, stay tuned for more details.

Rod Stewart, the '70s music legend behind the hit “Maggie May,” delivered disappointing news to fans.

Amid the rock icon’s One Last Time farewell tour, he announced major changes to his Aug. 4 show in Canada at the last minute.

In a post on his Instagram Stories, the 81-year-old singer abruptly postponed the one-night performance at Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, due to travel issues.

“Due to a mechanical fault with the aircraft's landing gear, Rod Stewart is regretfully unable to travel to Niagara Falls and must postpone tonight's performance at Fallsview Casino Resort,” the statement reads.

As for the British singer-songwriter, he expressed regret for the inconvenience but announced that the show has been rescheduled for next year.

“Rod is deeply disappointed and apologizes to fans for the inconvenience. He looks forward to returning for the rescheduled performance on Thursday, March 4, 2027, where he promises to make it up to his fans. Purchased tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled date. Existing complimentary reservations will be cancelled,” the statement added.

The show in Niagara Falls was announced as an additional date for Stewart in November 2025 as he continues his global tour, which began in 2024 and has been extended with dates running through 2027.

The run marks the music icon’s final large-scale global arena tour, but he clarified that he has no intention of retiring despite his age.

“This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire. I love what I do and I do what I love,” he mentioned on his Instagram back in 2024, adding “I’m fit, have a full head of hair and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79. I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not.”

Swing Fever was his latest studio album, which was released in 2024 and debuted at No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart.

Some of the most influential musicians from Seattle’s legendary ’90s rock and grunge scene are coming together this December for a one-of-a-kind experience that offers fans the chance to jam alongside the artists who created the soundtrack of a generation.

Announced today, via Blabbermouth, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, Kim Thayil of Soundgarden, and Dave Krusen of Pearl Jam fame are all signed on for Sounds of Seattle: Vol. 2, the latest offering from Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp founded by music producer David Fishof.

“Well, right on! The Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp is coming to Seattle this year!” Thayil said. “We’d love to welcome all the campers to head to our town from December 3-6 to play in our rock clubs and jam on our tunes with your best rock riffing! See you there!”

An immersive four-day event, the camp welcomes music fans of all ages to collaborate and play alongside some of the genre's greatest rock icons.​

The way the camp works is that participants are placed into bands, with each group mentored by a top touring musician. These musicians include Adam Kury (Candlebox), Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (former Guns N’ Roses), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath), Britt Lightning (Vixen), who also serves as the event’s musical director, and so many more.

The experience culminates in live performances at the historicCentral Saloon, where Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden all performed in their early days. Limited spots for the camp are available; registration can be found at rockcamp.com.

“Rock Camp is where musicians stop dreaming about playing with their heroes and actually do it,” Lightning said. “Watching campers grow in confidence over just four days—and then take the stage at legendary venues—is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever been a part of.”

Founded in 1997, the camp is celebrating 30 years of breaking industry barriers, instilling life-changing confidence, and uniting an unexpected cross-section of society—bringing together tech founders and corporate executives and professional athletes and politicians, all bonded by a shared love of music.

The enduring success of the rock camp has even spawned spin-offs, including a reality television show, a podcast, and the critically acclaimed documentary film, Rock Camp: The Movie.

For fans who grew up with posters of Alice in Chains and Chris Cornell on their walls and wore out their Ten cassette due to constant repetition of “Alive” and “Jeremy,” Sounds of Seattle: Vol. 2 offers the chance to go behind the legendary music and play the tracks that defined the decade alongside the rock stars who created them.

Few rock songs from the early 1970s were given as much room to grow as the Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post.” The song began as a roughly five-minute studio recording, but its famous live performance from 1971 stretched to 22 minutes and 40 seconds.

That version appeared on At Fillmore East, the Allman Brothers Band’s landmark live album recorded in New York. Released in July 1971, the album became the group’s major breakthrough, while “Whipping Post” became one of its defining performances.

The original studio version, written by Gregg Allman, runs 5:17 and first appeared on the band’s 1969 debut album, The Allman Brothers Band. The song was already a strong blues-rock number, but the group found much more space for it onstage.

By 1971, the Allman Brothers Band had developed a reputation for long, improvised performances. Their music mixed blues, rock, jazz and country, with two lead guitarists and two drummers giving the band a sound that could keep changing during a live set.

The famous performance was recorded at the Fillmore East during the band’s second show on March 13, 1971, per Ultimate Classic Rock. The original album recording is listed at 22:40, with the song taking up the entire final side of the LP.

The performance starts with Berry Oakley’s bass figure before Duane Allman and Dickey Betts enter on guitar. Gregg Allman then adds his Hammond organ and vocals.

The opening is also notable for its unusual meter. The introduction is commonly described as being in 11/4 or 11/8, creating an uneven rhythm that immediately separates the song from a standard rock track.

Around the middle of the live version, the music drops in intensity before gradually building again. The guitars move through quieter passages before the performance returns to its central vocal theme.

That rise and fall is one reason the 22-minute recording does not feel like the same section being repeated over and over. The band keeps changing the mood and pace.

The Allman Brothers Band’s official archive shows that other 1971 performances of “Whipping Post” also varied greatly in length. The March 13 first-show version ran 17:15, while another second-show version is listed at 22 minutes. A June 27 Fillmore East closing-show version ran 19:17.

The extended format was therefore part of the band's live approach rather than a one-time accident.

“Whipping Post” helped show why the Allman Brothers Band became so important to live rock.

Billboard included the song at No. 1 on its list of the 20 greatest Allman Brothers Band songs in 2024. The publication pointed to the song’s unusual opening, Gregg Allman’s vocal performance and the long guitar sections as key parts of what made it special.

The performance also became closely connected to At Fillmore East, an album that helped change the band's fortunes. Their first two studio albums had not been major commercial successes, but the 1971 live album became their breakthrough.

The band had recorded At Fillmore East over three nights, March 11, 12 and 13, 1971, according to Pitchfork. The album captured the group in the setting where its extended live style made the most sense.

The studio recording had already established Gregg Allman’s songwriting and the song’s blues foundation. The Fillmore performance showed what happened when the entire band was given time to explore it.

The recording also captured the original lineup at a critical moment. Later in 1971, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident at just 24 years old. Original bassist Berry Oakley died in a similar motorcycle accident the following year. Gregg Allman died in 2017, while Butch Trucks also died that year. Dickey Betts died in 2024. Jaimoe is now the only surviving original member.

Fifty-five years after the 1971 recording, “Whipping Post” remains an unusual rock landmark: a song that began as a five-minute studio track but became best known through a performance nearly four times as long.

Fans of one of the most legendary thrash metal bands in music history just got some exciting news amid the band's farewell tour. Megadeth announced at the start of August that they would be embarking on Breakout: Hibernation Of The Nations, the European leg of their ongoing farewell tour.

Set to start in March 2027, the band is returning with their first headlining tour in the U.K. in almost 12 years, while the tour will also extend to other parts of Europe. The last time Megadeth led a tour in the U.K. was in November 2015, when they co-headlined a handful of concerts with Lamb Of God.

The tour will start with a show in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on March 9, with stops in London, Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds in England, Cardiff in Wales, and Glasgow in Scotland.

Starting March 21, the tour will move into the rest of Europe, stopping in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The final show is set for Lisbon on April 13.

Some fans highlighted places left out of the European tour, wishing that Megadeth was coming to where they lived. A few notable exclusions were Greece, Sweden, Finland, and many Eastern European countries.

Despite this, the overwhelming feeling from Megadeth fans was happiness and excitement, with many already planning their trip to see the show.

He’s back at it again! Donald Trump trolling Bruce Springsteen, and vice versa, isn’t new. The feuding foes have a long history of trading barbs that dates back to at least 2016. And now the president is recycling a previously posted doctored AI photo of the rock legend on Truth Social, taking yet another surface-level dig at the star. 

Springsteen and Trump’s History

The celebs have never seen eye-to-eye, and neither was afraid to admit it. 

In 2016, Springsteen talked toRolling Stone about Trump, saying, “The republic is under siege by a moron, basically. Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy.” Of course, it didn’t end there.

The criticism kept coming, and in 2025 the musician said (during a performance in Manchester, England), “The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock ‘n’ roll in dangerous times.” Springsteen continued, “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.”

Trump replied to Springsteen, writing on Truth Social at the time, “I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States. Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy.”

The president added, “The dried out “prune” of a rocker (his skin is atrophied!) ought to keep his mouth shut until he gets back into the Country.” 

More recently, Trump said at the WHCA Dinner, “What about Bruce Springsteen? What happened to that guy? At a recent concert, Bruce, all he did was talk politics. He ought to run for office; that would be very interesting. But all he talked about, he made four political speeches in his three-hour show. The tour’s been renamed Bored in the USA.”

Fast forward a week, and Trump was back at it again. But this time it was on Truth Social. During a posting spree, the commander-in-chief shared a clearly doctored photo of Springsteen looking disheveled with brown, rotting teeth, reiterating his WHCA Dinner roast by titling the pic, “What Happened to Bruce Springsteen?” 

Based on recent pictures of the 76-year-old musician, the close-up looks almost nothing like the real Springsteen. But the rocker’s fans already knew that! 

It gets worse. This isn’t even the first time Trump has posted the pic. He previously shared the almost unbelievable image back in April. Could this be Trump’s new go-to when he wants to bash Bruce? 

Springsteen has not publicly acknowledged or replied to Trump’s recent post.

Anya Taylor-Joy shared a critical difference between how men and women approach acting.  

The 30-year-old actress has appeared in a variety of roles throughout her career. She first gained major recognition after appearing in the 2015 horror filmThe Witch and has since starred in projects such as The Queen's Gambit, Emma, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. 

She spoke to Complex News on July 29 about how she doesn’t see women drawn towards method acting. 

“If you’ll notice, women don’t method act because we have things to take care of, so we can’t completely lose our minds,” she said. “I see acting as a controlled psychosis in a way. You’re pretending to be somebody else and having their thoughts 16 hours a day and moving like them, in their house, in their clothes. It’s like having a sister or a roommate check in up [in my mind] for a little bit.”

Taylor-Joy believes that it’s important to be a good scene partner, and method acting can make that difficult. 

“I’m just very grateful that the people in my life understand that and know that,” she said. “Sometimes if it gets out of hand, they’ll call me by the character name and they’ll be like, ‘We need to check in again.’” 

She added, “But I can’t imagine keeping it up all the time because, again, you’re going to work with hundreds of people and it is your responsibility to be good to them and to help them do their best job. If you’re too invested in being an asshole, then that’s not gonna be very fun.”

The process must be working for Taylor-Joy, as she has two big upcoming projects: The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum and Dune: Part Three. 

She is set to star in The Hunt for Gollum as Seren. The film is currently being filmed and is expected to be released in December 2027. 

Taylor-Joy reprised her role as Alia Atreide in Dune: Part Three after joining the franchise in Dune: Part Two. The film will hit the big screen in December 2026.

There’s some bad news for fans of ZZ Top. The “Sharp Dressed Man” band has been forced to cancel two dates on their current tour with fellow ‘70s rock legends Cheap Trick due to “unforeseen personnel matters,” according to a statement released by the band’s spokesman.

The affected dates include the band’s Aug. 5 show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, which was officially cancelled on Aug. 4, about 24 hours before show time. This follows ZZ Top’s canceled date on Aug. 4 with Cheap Trick at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, Calif., near San Diego.

 In the case of both canceled gigs, ticketholders may get refunds at point of purchase, with all tickets, including transportation and parking passes, automatically refunded to the original payment method. No action is needed for fans to receive their refund.

Still, fans shared their disappointment in comments on ZZ Top’s official Instagram account and questioned the reasons behind the cancellations.

“Yesterday morning You canceled tour opener tomorrow night in San Diego with no explanation and add more dates but not reschedule???? ????,” wrote one disappointed fan in a comment to a post that advertised future tour dates with Cheap Trick and George Thorogood & the Destroyers that run through October. “yeah I’d like an explanation too,” another fan chimed in.

“ZZ Top management have just announced that the band’s concert with Cheap Trick at the Hollywood Bowl slated for tomorrow, August 5, has been cancelled,” reads the official announcement from the band’s spokesman. “The ZZ Top tour has unforeseen personnel matters that have forced the band to cancel its appearance at the Los Angeles landmark.”

When contacted by Parade, the band’s spokesman said he had nothing further to add.

It’s unclear if the band will play their next scheduled date on Aug. 7 at the Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center in Fresno, Calif. The band’s current “The Big One!” tour is scheduled to run through Oct. 9 in Port Wentworth, Ga. with the band hitting mostly secondary markets in Texas, Michigan, New York, Virginia, Tennessee and other states.

Best-known for the MTV-era hits “Gimme All Your Lovin” and “Legs,” the trio of singer-guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard and bassist-vocalist Dusty Hill launched their career in 1969 and gained fame with the early ‘70s classics “La Grange” and “Tush” on album rock radio. In the ‘80s, the trio reinvented themselves for the MTV era by employing synthesizers to the musical mix and sunglasses, long beards, and spinning guitars to up their visual appeal.

In 2004, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Bassist Hill died in 2021 and was replaced by his guitar tech Elwood Francis while drummer Beard has battled health issues in recent years with John Douglas sitting in on drums.

Faith Hill’s career was already thriving by the mid-1990s, thanks to hits like “This Kiss” and “Let Me Let Go,” but the release of “Breathe” cemented her status as one of the defining pop-country stars of her era. 

Released on September 27, 1999 as the lead single from her fourth studio album of the same name, “Breathe” became a major crossover hit for Hill, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Though the song didn’t top that chart, it remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for 53 weeks.

“Breathe” was also ranked as the number-one pop single of 2000 by Billboard, edging out “Smooth” by Santana and Rob Thomas and “Maria Maria” by Santana featuring The Product G&B, which finished third and fourth place, respectively. Additionally, Billboard , in 2025, ranked "Breathe" at No. 17 on it's list of "50 Favorite Country Love Songs of All Time."

Written by country singer-songwriters Stephanie Bentley and Holly Lamar, “Breathe” captures the overwhelming sense of euphoria that comes from being completely lost in a moment with the one you love. The intimate love song paints a vivid picture of two people becoming so immersed in their deep romantic connection that everything else simply fades away. 

In terms of the writing, Lamar already had the “Breathe” title before she brought it to Bentley, an old hometown friend from Georgia who had, like her, moved to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue a career in country music. 

"I brought [this] little riff that I had," Bentley shared of the two’s writing session, according to BMI.com. "We wrote it on seven Tuesdays — our regular writing day. We're both very picky and it took several times to get it right."

“Breathe” may not have topped the Billboard Hot 100, but it did reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, spending six weeks in the top spot. The song also went No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary charts.

Charts aside, “Breathe” won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and a BMI Award for Song of the Year. 

Meanwhile, the album Breathe went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Country Album, and became Hill’s best selling collection to date. The album also spawned additional hits “The Way You Love Me,” “If My Heart Had Wings,” and “Let’s Make Love,” a duet with Tim McGraw.

You may feel like it was only just yesterday you were Googling, "How to stop toddler tantrums." Then all of a sudden, your child is a teenager. But there's a whole decade in between that deserves attention. We often think of a child's first birthday and entrance into kindergarten as massive growth markers before teenagehood, and it can certainly go fast. But psychologists say that it's worth understanding general age-7 developmental milestones, too.

"Some common developmental milestones around age 7 include a more solid sense of time, along with dressing themselves, tying their shoes and doing their own dental care with brushing teeth and flossing," states Dr. Brandy Smith, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist with Thriveworks.

She says that, around 7 years old, kids become better at pronouncing words correctly and speaking in more complete sentences (but it was so cute to listen to your toddler say, "Me want fi-y crackor" instead of "I want fishy crackers, please"). Socially and emotionally, Dr. Smith shares that kids are making more friendships and attuned to others' feelings and their own. Another psychologist agrees.

"They are able to identify and name a wider range of feelings beyond the basics, like being happy or sad," Dr. Emily Guarnotta, Psy.D., PMH-C, a psychologist and founder of Phoenix Health, tells Parade. "They also understand that other people have different thoughts, feelings and experiences than they [do]."

However, psychologists emphasize that children need to actually learn certain emotional skills before this stage in order to develop them. But which ones? Psychologists share the most important emotional skill parents and grandparents should teach kids before age 7. They also explain tips for how to teach kids about feelings.

The ‘One Skill’: Why Psychologists Point To Emotional Regulation

According to psychologists, it's important to teach a child emotional regulation before age 7, stating it's a critical developmental milestone.

Emotional regulation allows people to manage their emotional responses, helping to problem-solve, make friends and cope with conflict. One way to teach how to regulate emotions is by helping kids name emotions.

The Brain Before Age 7: Why This Developmental Window Matters

It may help to go inside a child's brain to understand why emotional regulation is one of the key age-7 developmental milestones. Child psychology's understanding of emotional intelligence has evolved over the years. Here's what we know.

"The brain develops rapidly in early childhood," Dr. Guarnotta explains. "During the first few years of life, it’s building connections at a rapid pace, especially in the areas that are involved in regulating emotions."

Dr. Smith adds that major developments within a child's brain by age seven include building connections between the "emotions" and "logic" parts of the brain, so you may find yourself saying "no hitting" way less as your kid moves through elementary school.

"By age 7, children are expected to use words to express themselves rather than engage in physical acting out," she says.

To be clear, a person's brain development is far from over on their seventh birthday.

"The prefrontal cortex, which is the part of the brain responsible for impulse control, problem-solving and emotional regulation, is still developing well into young adulthood," Dr. Guarnotta explains. "Children, therefore, rely on their caregivers to help them regulate because their brains are not yet able to. This is why co-regulation is so important."

Co-Regulation vs. Self-Regulation: What's the Difference?

Psychologists say there are different types of regulation, and it often involves another person.

"Think about a toddler who falls down and immediately looks for a parent to pick them up, soothe them and help them feel safe again," says Dr. Holly Schiff, Psy.D., a licensed clinical psychologist. "That's co-regulation."

Indeed, expecting self-regulation is not how to stop toddler tantrums. It's useful to know top co-regulation techniques for parents and grandparents, like sitting with a child and comforting them. Dr. Guarnotta notes that it's developmentally expected for children not to be able to calm themselves down.

"They learn through repeated experiences of having a trusted adult support them through big emotions," she tells Parade. "Each time that a parent or caregiver responds with patience, helps a child name their feelings or models a coping skill, it strengthens the neural pathways in the child’s brain."

Eventually, those pathways lead to better self-regulation skills in children. But what does that mean?

"Self-regulation... is when children learn to regulate on their own," Dr. Guarnotta says. "Over time, they learn how to internalize these strategies and begin applying them without relying on adult support. Self-regulation is not something that children master at a young age. It takes time, and even adults continue to struggle."

5 Ways Parents and Grandparents Can Teach the Skill Today

It's important to understand how to teach kids about feelings, and it can start before a child begins to talk. Psychologists shared ways parents and grandparents can guide emotional regulation from birth.

1. Learn co-regulation techniques for parents and grandparents

Dr. Dara Houp, Psy.D., a licensed clinical psychologist with Pathways Psychological Services in NYC, says children need to co-regulate before they can self-regulate. They will lean on their caregiver (you) for that (perhaps literally).

"For example, when a movie ends, and the child is angry and yelling for more screen time, instead of matching the child’s intensity, a parent can soften their voice, get on the child’s level and speak slowly," she explains. "This models a different way of responding to intense emotions and helps the child understand that their big emotion isn’t overwhelming to you."

2. Be a role model for emotional regulation

Parents can role-model self-regulation in other ways beyond co-regulating with their kids. Remember, children are like sponges, absorbing everything so they can learn. So, next time you spill a bucket of water when you're using an actual sponge, use it as a teachable moment.

"If a parent takes a deep breath before responding and says, 'I'm feeling frustrated, so I'm going to slow down,' or demonstrates healthy coping strategies, children begin to understand what regulation actually looks like in real life," Dr. Schiff notes.

3. Name emotions for kids instead of dismissing them

Dr. Guarnotta stresses the importance of naming emotions for kids, as it can set the foundation for emotional regulation and intelligence.

"Children cannot regulate emotions that they don’t understand," she explains. "Learning emotional vocabulary helps them identify what they’re feeling and communicate their needs."

For instance, the psychologist advises against saying "You're fine" when a child gets upset. Instead, she suggests something like, "You're really upset that we have to leave the park."

"The goal is to validate the emotion and build their emotional vocabulary so they can start to name their own feelings," she explains.

4. Read books and stories that show how to do it

Toddlers don't learn from lectures the way some college students do, but they can "hit the books" with their favorite grown-ups.

Dr. Smith says that books and stories with themes about feelings provide "practical, real-life examples of people emotionally regulating." She says these books are natural ways to expose kids and grandkids to feelings from a young age, adding that the young main characters are often relatable to little ones.

5. Practice coping skills during calm moments, not meltdowns

Mid-tantrum is not the time to explain the benefits of diaphragmatic breathing. Your child may not even be able to hear you over their crying, let alone take a breath.

"When a child is overwhelmed, it’s nearly impossible to learn a new skill," Dr. Guarnotta states. "New skills need to be taught when the brain is calm. Introduce skills like deep breathing, a calm-down corner or drawing when children are feeling good."

Then, she suggests practicing with them and talking about why these skills are helpful and when to use them.

The Generational Shift: Getting Everyone on the Same Page

Parenting has evolved over the years, and teaching emotional regulation has become a greater priority. If grandparents are involved in children's lives, teaching emotional regulation may seem foreign. In fact, they may roll their eyes at gentle parenting scripts. However, psychologists say emotional regulation is still important for kids to learn, and it's possible to get everyone on the same page. Here's how.

1. Make it a "we" project

Dr. Schiff suggests leading with appreciation instead of correction.

"Most grandparents genuinely want what's best for their grandchildren," she says. "Starting with something like, 'I know you always want to comfort them,' makes people much more open to hearing a different approach than beginning with criticism."

Dr. Houp agrees, adding that lines like this one can also promote the idea that everyone is on the same team.

"Finding common ground may be a helpful starting point," she notes.

She suggests saying, "I know you want the best for Sammy just like we do. We’re hoping to teach him how to tolerate big emotions so he can make healthy decisions even when he’s mad.”

2. Acknowledge shifts in child psychology and emotional intelligence

Grandparents aren't "wrong." Times have changed, and Dr. Smith suggests that parents acknowledge generational differences and the changes that have occurred.

She cautions against acting judgmentally. Instead, she recommends letting grandparents know that "some of the ways we used to do still have merit." However, we've made improvements in some areas.

"Prioritizing emotional regulation is one of the improvements," she notes.

3. Stand your ground

If necessary, Dr. Smith says it's reasonable for parents to say, “I appreciate your concern, but I have to do what I think is best. My sense, along with the research, shows this is best, so I’m going to try this way. And if I see something that tells me to change it, I will make changes along the way.”

Matt Damon's Daughters Also Hit the Red Carpet

Joined by two of their daughters, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, the whole group showed off their makeshift hearts for the South Korean crowd. The couple's two older daughters, Alexia, 27, and Isabella, 19, weren't present for the big event in Seoul, but they've recently hit the red carpet with their parents for other Odyssey events.

Damon Is Training His Daughters in the Gym

Back in October, Damon shared with us that his daughters have him getting them up early in the morning to hit the gym together.

“By the way, my daughters have started training,” Damon told Parade. “They want to get up early in the morning and train. So I had to wake them up at 5:30, and that game went late, but there was no way I was turning it off. So I’ve been tired today, but they looked great, I just gotta say,” he said, referring to the previous evening’s New England Patriots game.

While life is chaotic with four daughters, Damon has made it clear he wouldn’t change a thing.

“It was very different, it’s true,” Damon previously told PEOPLE. “But I can’t imagine my life having not gone down that road. I can’t imagine what my life would be now. I don’t want to imagine it.”

Van Morrison has added 10 new U.K. tour dates to his busy 2026 schedule, giving fans more chances to see the rock legend perform live later this year.

The newly announced shows will take place across England, Wales and Scotland in October and November. The dates expand Morrison’s previously announced London residency and come as he continues to promote his latest album, Somebody Tried to Sell Me a Bridge.

According to Morrison’s official website, the new concerts include two shows at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, plus stops in Swansea, Bristol, Plymouth, Torquay, Brighton, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Tickets for the new dates will go on general sale at 9 A.M. on Friday. A Ticketmaster pre-sale begins at the same time on Thursday.

The new U.K. dates follow Morrison’s previously announced five-night residency at the newly unveiled British Airways ARC in London.

Morrison is scheduled to perform at the venue on Sept. 23, 24, 27, 28 and 29. He will also play the New Wimbledon Theatre in London on Sept. 26.

The New Wimbledon Theatre performance was added to the London run after strong demand for the residency.

The newly announced schedule is:

• Oct. 8 – Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool
• Oct. 9 – Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool
• Oct. 11 – Swansea Arena, Swansea
• Oct. 12 – Bristol Beacon, Bristol
• Oct. 27 – Plymouth Arena, Plymouth
• Oct. 28 – Princess Theatre, Torquay
• Oct. 30 – Brighton Dome, Brighton
• Oct. 31 – Brighton Dome, Brighton
• Nov. 2 – Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
• Nov. 3 – Usher Hall, Edinburgh

Morrison had already performed at major events during 2026, including the Montreux Jazz Festival. He also appeared at a concert with Faces and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood.

Now 79, Morrison remains active in both the studio and on stage.

Morrison is touring in support of Somebody Tried to Sell Me a Bridge, his 48th album. The record arrived digitally and on compact disc in January, with a vinyl edition following in June. The album features blues-influenced versions of songs connected to artists including B.B. King, Lead Belly and Buddy Guy.

Morrison first performed as a teenager in the late 1950s. In 1957, he formed his first band, the Sputniks, a skiffle group named after the recently launched Sputnik 1 satellite. By 1958, the young musician was performing at local cinemas.

He later played with several groups before joining Them in 1964. The Belfast R&B band helped Morrison gain international attention, with songs including “Baby, Please Don't Go,” “Here Comes the Night” and “Mystic Eyes.” The band's recording of “Gloria” later became a major rock standard.

Morrison began his solo career in 1967 and soon released “Brown Eyed Girl,” one of his best-known songs.

His 1968 album Astral Weeks became widely regarded as a classic, while 1970’s Moondance established him as a major artist. Throughout the 1970s, Morrison released a series of acclaimed albums and became known for his mix of rock, soul, blues, jazz, folk and rhythm and blues.

His career has continued across multiple generations. Since turning 70 in 2015, he has maintained a steady recording pace, releasing new studio albums and archival projects.

In 2026, Morrison was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jazz FM Awards, according to NME.
