Notable women have stood behind the mic during generations of rock music, with Courtney Lovesecuring a spot as one of the greatest frontwomen in the genre.

In a list compiled by BBC Music Magazine, Love landed at No. 4 on their list of female music icons who shaped music in their own way. According to the magazine's description of the Hole's frontwoman, she "fused rage, glamour, and chaos into an unforgettable stage persona" during a pivotal era of grunge/alternative music.

For die-hard fans, Love commanded the stage and her career, showcasing ferocious aggression parallelled with heartbreaking vulnerability. There's no denying that Love's career was also muddled with controversy from tabloid headlines, public relationships, and rage-filled outbursts. Despite this, the magazine calls out her ability to harness the drama into "artistry" that helped "define post-grunge and alternative rock, making her influence both enduring and uncompromising."

Love's music career began in 1989 when she formed the band Hole with guitarist Eric Erlandson after placing an ad to start a band. She's listed some of her biggest music influences as Big Black, Sonic Youth, and Fleetwood Mac. The music icon was inspired to name the band based on a line from Euripides' Medea and a conversation she once had with her mother.

Hole soon released their debut single titled "Retard Girl" in 1990, which later led Love and the band to release their album Pretty on the Inside. It was tagged by critics for being aggressive and caught attention for its graphic lyrics, but pushed Hole to gain notoriety in the grunge scene.

"I try to place [beautiful imagery] next to f*cked up imagery, because that's how I view things … I sometimes feel that no one's taken the time to write about certain things in rock, that there's a certain female point of view that's never been given space," said Love in an interview with Melody Maker in 1991.

With Love behind the mic, the band gained notoriety for hit tracks like "Celebrity Skin," "Violet," "Doll Parts," and more. "Celebrity Skin" became the signature track that landed them at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became an alt-rock anthem.

Along with the music, Love became famous in the spotlight for her marriage to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. The relationship slightly overshadowed her career, with reports stating many of Nirvana's hit tracks were inspired by Love. Following Cobain's death in 1994, Love would perform for the first time months later, which critics called "macabre, frightening, and inspirational."

In her career, Love has been known as the "Queen of Grunge" and has widened her horizons to include acting. She lands high on BBC's list of the greatest frontwomen alongside Janis Joplin,Christine McVie, Patti Smith, and Stevie Nicks.

Johnny Marrhas announced his latest solo album, The Age of Everything, set to be released on October 2, 2026.

The legendary British guitarist's fifth solo record features 10 tracks and will serve as a follow-up to his 2022 release, Fever Dreams Pts 1–4.

“This is the record that’s been the most cathartic. The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling,” the former Smiths guitarist said in a statement. “It’s all encompassing, but it’s not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.”

In tandem with the album announcement, Marr also unveiled its lead single, "Spin," alongside a music video. According to Setlist.FM, the musician has been previewing the track at concerts over the last few months.

The album was written in London and recorded in Manchester, Marr's hometown. Later this year, Marr is set to play some of the biggest shows of his solo career, including a mammoth homecoming performance at Manchester's Castlefield Bowl on July 9 and a stop at London's OVO Arena Wembley.

Marr's previous four solo albums have gone on to gain significant commercial success. In 2022, Fever Dreams Pts 1–4 peaked at No. 4 on the Official Albums Chart, making it his highest charting solo album in the U.K.

Over the course of his career, Marr has received several lifetime achievement awards in honor of his contributions to the music industry. In 2013, Marr won the NME "Godlike Genius" Award and, in 2018, he was honored with the GQ Lifetime Achievement Award.

"It’s a very nice thing to be getting this award and I am honored," he said during his acceptance speech for the "Godlike Genius" Award. "I guess it means that some things are alright with the world."

Kelly Ripa knows there are some things she can say on morning TV, and some things she apparently cannot even repeat.

During the Monday, June 15 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa revealed that she owns a shirt she enjoys wearing off-camera, but said the wording on it is too much for daytime television.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ripa said she could not share what the shirt says because she and Mark Consueloswould be "pulled off the air."

The Shirt Was Only the Beginning

Ripa did not reveal the phrase on the shirt, but the moment quickly moved into another candid topic.

The longtime Live host turned to the audience and asked whether there were any women over 50 in the crowd before opening up about a bodily change she had noticed. Ripa, 55, joked that something happens to the upper thighs after 50, describing it as a "clapping sound" when sitting down.

Consuelos did not seem to understand but the women in the audience sure did. Ripa joked that the sound from the audience was more like "a thunderous applause."

"It's not just me," she said.

Ripa turned it into a broader joke about aging, body changes, and the kinds of things women talk about when they are being honest with each other.

Ripa's Long Run on 'Live'

Ripa has been a fixture on Live since 2001, when she took over as Regis Philbin's cohost after Kathie Lee Gifford's exit. She later cohosted with Michael Strahan and Ryan Seacrest before Consuelos officially joined the show in 2023.

Earlier this year, Ripa marked 25 years with the franchise. While she has spoken openly about not planning to work forever, Ripa has also made it clear that she wants Live to continue beyond her own run.

Phish, the iconic jam rock band, delivered a major announcement ahead of their 2026 Summer Tour.

The quartet, composed of frontman and lead guitarist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell, unveiled the upcoming release of a digital box set.

In a social media update, the band revealed that the special collection will showcase the highlights from Phish: Live In Saratoga Springs 2025.

The soon-to-be-released digital box set will showcase recordings from the three-night concert run from July 25 to 27 at the Broadview Stage at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in New York.

The special box set, which will be available on June 26, includes 55 fully remixed and remastered tracks with Phish performing their original and hit songs, including "First Tube," "Bathtub Gin," "Devotion to a Dream," "The Well," "Birds of a Feather," "Strawberry Letter 23," "Lawn Boy," their biggest hit "You Enjoy Myself" and more.

“Phish: Live In Saratoga Springs 2025 celebrates an electric three-night stand across 55 songs from Broadview Stage at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a renowned music pavilion up near VT in an idyllic New York State Park that has hosted Phish 27 times between July 1992 and July 2025. The release includes part of Soundcheck from Sunday night. The shows were recorded by Vance Powell to multitrack, mixed by Jon Altschiller, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian,” the caption reads.

The announcement came after Phish revealed details regarding its forthcoming 21-date Summer Tour.

Kicking off the highly anticipated run on July 7 with two shows in Madison, Wisconsin, following performances in major cities across Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, New York and Massachusetts, the band will conclude the tour with a three-day show in Colorado.

Mary Stuart Masterson may have been a staple of the '80s, but the legendary actress has barely changed in 2026.

Masterson Still Loves Making Films

 Last year, Masterson opened up about the transformative experience of making a film. While the audience sees one final product, that has very little to do with the emotional journey the actor navigates while making it.

“Your experience of making it is one thing. It has nothing to do with what the audience experiences from it,” she told Louisville Public Radio. “Those are two separate things. The movie that exists for the viewer is completely different from the one you lived.”

What's Next for Mary Stuart Masterson?

It sounds like Masterson has an exciting project on the docket. Back in January, it was announced that she had signed on for a role in Sunny, a mafia thriller from Norwegian filmmaker Eva Sørhaug, Deadline reported. While it wasn't shared what role Masterson would play, word is that the film is led by Angelina Jolie and will also star Charlie Plummer, Jason Schmidt, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.

Off-Menu Chipotle Upgrades

If an item isn’t listed on the menu, sometimes the easiest thing to do is simply ask an employee. Menus are designed to streamline the process behind the counter, but small upgrades or substitutions are often fair game. With that in mind, there are still rules in place for employees, which means not every “hack” is as simple as it sounds. 

Take the internet-famous Chipotle "quesarito," for example. Basically just a rolled-up quesadilla, this off-menu item is something customers constantly request, but employees aren’t trained on how to make it and risk injury from hot melted cheese if it’s not handled the right way. Despite the risk, Chipotle employees are constantly coming up with their own off-menu creations, and the following are some of the most intriguing examples we found online.

Birria-Style Tacos

This is a popular employee-created hack that uses tortillas dipped in barbacoa juices, filled with cheese and meat, then grilled until crispy for a makeshift birria-style taco. Likely something you’ll only experience if you work at Chipotle, it’s easy to see how this could be a hit as an official menu item.

Similar in practice to Taco Bell’s Grilled Stuft Burrito, this simple upgrade involves pressing an already wrapped burrito on the grill or heating it in Chipotle’s TurboChef oven. The result? A satisfyingly crispy exterior with melted fillings inside, which seems to us like an easy add-on customers would be more than happy to pay for.

A true DIY-style mashup, this upgrade uses flattened crispy taco shells to recreate the famed Taco Bell Crunchwrap, layered with your choice of Chipotle fillings and folded accordingly before being grilled to perfection. Likely something you’ll never see hit the menu, this one is mostly enjoyed by employees.

Taking inspiration from traditional elote street corn, fans and employees alike have recreated a similar flavor by mixing roasted chili-corn salsa with queso blanco and sour cream. The result is a creamy, corn-based side that can be brightened with lime or cilantro, or enjoyed as-is.

Rounding out the list, Chipotle’s queso blanco has seen plenty of unofficial experimentation over the years, leading to a few surprisingly tasty variations worth trying. Popular mix-ins include Chipotle’s vinaigrette for an extra punchy salad dressing, or barbacoa, hot salsa and honey for a richer, more flavorful dip experience.

The Best Time to Ask for an Upgrade

The key to securing a successful menu upgrade is timing. Most employees will oblige reasonable requests, but if it’s during peak busy hours, chances are you’ll be met with resistance. On average, Chipotle typically experiences a break in foot traffic between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., making this the perfect window to get your requests in.

Of course, there is a caveat, as a big part of the process is having a friendly, respectful interaction. So long as you’re not asking for larger scoops, reaching over the glass or asking employees to check for more ingredients in the back, your request has a much better chance of being met with a “yes.”

Remember, restaurant workers are people just like us. Some days are more difficult than others, and you never know what kind of experience an employee might have had right before you walked through the door. A little kindness goes a long way, and you might be surprised what it gets you if you’ve got a foodservice friend in your circle.

Just after confirming that all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls would leave Netflix, fans were hit with some worse news. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is also leaving the streaming platform.

The latter's leaving is definitely a surprise. As the show is an Original series, nobody expected it to be removed from the platform, and there are plenty of questions about how this is all possible. It all comes down to the contracts and agreements set up 10 years ago.

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life dropped on Netflix? A decade is key when it comes to many licensed Netflix Originals, and that’s what this falls under. According to What’s On Netflix, which got the confirmation of the Gilmore Girls revival leaving, when Netflix commissioned the revival from Warner Bros., they only paid for an exclusive window, and that window is coming to an end.

It’s similar to Between, which is leaving Netflix in July due to the 10-year window coming to an end. Fans of Daredevil and Hemlock Grove have also seen the same thing happen, as there is more of a push for production companies to get their bigger content back to put on their own platforms.

The good news is that there’s still time to rewatch A Year in the Life multiple times. The four-part series will leave on November 25, 2026. It’s going to be a disappointing Thanksgiving period, but there is time this fall to watch. All seven seasons of Gilmore Girls are leaving on July 1, so you only have until June 30 to do your rewatch!

Once it leaves Netflix, it’s likely that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will head to HBO Max, as that’s the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer. That’s still to be confirmed.

What does this mean for a second season, though? Amy Sherman-Palladino kept the door open to continue the story, and there were certainly some loose ends that fans would like tying up. There’s no word on whether this is going to happen, and Warner Bros. may want to see how it performs on HBO Max first, as that’s who would commission the second season if it were to happen.

As fans of The Beatles are aware, the beloved British group wasn't afraid to write about a plethora of topics, ranging from octopuses ("Octopus's Garden") to a fictitious band ("Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"). So it shouldn't be all that surprising that one of the songs off of 1968's White Album was based on singer and bassist Paul McCartney's dog, Martha.

During a 1968 interview with Radio Luxembourg, McCartney shared some insight into penning said tune, titled "Martha My Dear." He explained he didn't intend to write a song that focused on the Old English Sheepdog.

"You see, I just start singing some words with a tune, you know what I mean. I don't ever write a song thinking, 'Now I'll write a song about...' I do sometimes, but mainly I don't. Mainly I'm just doing a tune, and then some words come into my head, you know. And these happened to be 'Martha My Dear, though I spend my days in conversation.' It doesn't mean anything, you know, but those just happened to come to my head," said the famed musician, now 83.

He clarified that the song "is about [his] dog" and suggested that some listeners have thought otherwise.

"So you can read anything you like into it, but really it's just a song. It's me singing to my dog," said McCartney with a laugh in the 1968 interview.

McCartney also revealed he came up with the song on the piano in his 1997 biography, Paul McCartney: Many Years from Now, written by Barry Miles, as reported by The Beatles Bible. According to McCartney, his piano skills on the tune came as a surprise to some.

"When I taught myself piano I liked to see how far I could go, and this started life almost as a piece you’d learn as a piano lesson. It’s quite hard for me to play, it’s a two-handed thing, like a little set piece," recalled McCartney while speaking to Miles for the book. "In fact, I remember one or two people being surprised that I’d played it because it’s slightly above my level or competence really, but I wrote it as that, something a bit more complex for me to play. Then while I was blocking out words – you just mouth out sounds and some things come – I found the words ‘Martha my dear.'"

When the “Queen of the Beach Read” gives a recommendation, you'd better pack the book for your next trip out to the shore. Elin Hilderbrand — the New York Times best-selling author behind novels like The Perfect Couple, Here’s To Us, and 28 Summers — recently gave some love to a new summer thriller, Lila Raicek’s The Plunge.

The Plunge is Lila Raicek’s debut novel, as she’s best known as a successful playwright.  This book came out of a dark period in my own life when I was grappling with loss and really thinking about the process of starting over,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in April. Raicek began writing the novel in 2021, four years after she broke off her engagement with Amazon executive Roy Price after a TV producer accused him of sexual harassment.

“I was in a period of grief and confusion trying to understand how to rebuild after loss,” Raicek told Bustle. “I set out to write a novel that really explored that murky and turbulent space of aftermath, which I feel like has not necessarily been addressed in literature, that isn’t linear, that isn’t ruly, that’s messy. And I found myself asking the question, how do we often have to plunge into a darker place to find ourselves again?”

The Plunge is out now, via Park Row/Harper Collins.  As for Elin Hilderbrand, she and her daughter, Shelby Cunningham, will release The Thoroughbreds, the follow-up to the NYT best-selling The Academy, in September via Little, Brown and Company/Hachette.

The Flaming Lips were forced to cancel their Vienna concert after frontman Wayne Coyne was hospitalized and put on bed rest.

The psychedelic rock band, known for hits like "Do You Realize??" and "She Don't Use Jelly", took to Instagram on Monday, June 15, to announce that their show scheduled for that night in Austria would not be going forward as planned due to Coyne's health scare.

"We are truly sorry, Vienna, but our show tonight at Gasometer is cancelled. Wayne has pneumonia and has been ordered to bed rest. All refunds will be available from your point of purchase," they wrote. "We hope to see you again, Austria!"

Alongside the announcement, the band included a photo of masked Coyne reclining in a hospital bed while attached to numerous monitors.

The band, which also includes Derek Brown, Matt Duckworth Kirksey, Tommy McKenzie and AJ Slaughter, is currently in the middle of a U.K. and European tour and is scheduled to travel across 11 countries this summer.

As of Tuesday, June 16, the band has not provided any additional updates on the tour schedule. The Flaming Lips are next scheduled to hit the stage on Thursday, June 18, at the Bonsai Garden in Bologna, Italy. They're then slated to play concerts in Prague, Belgrade, Zagreb, and Kallithéa before heading to the U.K. and Ireland next month.

New details have come out regarding the timeline of Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO's split after the news that the singer had filed for divorce.

TMZ reports that Jelly Roll filed the petition on May 18, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. And with that, he listed the date of separation as May 9, 2026, which was just a little over a week before he went on to file.

The two married on August 30, 2016, with a source telling TMZ that the divorce was a "mutual decision by the two and a private family matter.”

Hours after the news, TMZ posted photos of a moving truck outside the home the couple shared. In the photos, it was unclear exactly who was moving out, but neighbors who spoke with the outlet said it was the first time they had seen a moving truck at the house.

The singer also hinted at news of the split just hours before the news came out, with a video shared showing her lip-syncing and dancing to Nickelback’s breakup song, “How You Remind Me.”

The news of the split also comes just a few months after Bunnie XO released her memoir Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic, where she opened up about her relationship with Jelly Roll.

“J wasn’t the man he is today back in 2015,” she wrote, “when we met, and a year later, he was still bouncing couch to couch and living in his brown van, Bertha.”

“J wasn’t my type—I love tough guys, or goth, emo boys in eyeliner,” she added. “I wasn’t his type either. So why the hell was my soul telling me there he is the minute we met? I couldn’t explain it. And I didn’t know how he thought about me at all. I had a hunch, but I wasn’t sure."

The two ultimately got married at Las Vegas' Stained Glass Wedding Chapel in August 2016 and then went on to renew their vows in 2023. But, the two had a lot of ups and downs in their relationship.

Dr. Pimple Popper is opening up about one of the most frightening moments of her life. The dermatologist, whose real name is Dr. Sandra Lee, revealed that she experienced a stroke while filming her Lifetime series, Dr. Pimple Popper—and that she didn’t immediately go to the ER because her first symptoms felt “weird” rather than urgent.

The reality star said it wasn’t until the next morning, when she noticed weakness on the left side of her body, that she realized she was experiencing distinct stroke symptoms. Now, she’s sharing her story to remind others that when it comes to strokes, every moment matters.

After reflecting on how she doesn't like sharing her personal life on the show, she realized this time, it couldn't have been avoided.

"I had symptoms that were weird the night after a taping, but it was not until the morning that I actually felt like I had distinct symptoms of a stroke," Dr. Lee shared in an Instagram post.

She described having "Weakness on the left side of my body, and that is why I didn't go to the ER until the next morning," she continued. "It did indeed happen while I was taping episodes of the television show. I hope you watched tonight. Like I said, this is a reality show, but this is a very personal one, and thankfully I'm doing well now."

Lee added, "There are certainly days that I forget about this and what has happened, and in the beginning, I was reminded every, almost every minute of the day. Anyone out there that has had a stroke, action is timely."

She went on to share some footage from the Monday night episode that featured what happened when she had a stroke and the confusion around it. At one point, she thought she was having a hot flash, but when she lost her balance and felt weakness on the left side of her body, the alarm bells began to ring.

When it comes to Metallica, there are a handful of songs that always stand out first, and one of those is “Nothing Else Matters.”

This track nearly didn’t make it onto an album. In fact, James Hetfield didn’t even want to share it with the band when he first came up with it. While it didn’t make it to the top spots on the main music charts, it would go on to become one of the most hauntingly beautiful rock ballads of all time.

“Nothing Else Matters” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart, and it made it to No. 6 in the UK on the Singles Chart. Becoming the third single from their fifth studio album in 1991, this track was originally just something Hetfield was working on as a way to deal with his homesickness.

While on the road with the band in 1990, he was struggling to deal with being away from his girlfriend at the time, and there are stories of him writing through tears. Think of this as more like a journal entry rather than something that was supposed to become the staple in live performances that it is now. In a 2008 interview, Hetfield even said, “At first I didn’t even want to play it for the guys.”

He believed Metallica’s sound was supposed to be about fast cars, head banging, and destroying things. The songs should be about the four of them, so he kept the track to himself.

We can thank Lars Ulrich for getting “Nothing Else Matters” out to the world. He heard Hetfield tinkering with it, and when he eventually managed to really listen to it, he was completely stunned. While Hetfield thought everyone would laugh at his love song, Ulrich found it moving and profound. He knew from that moment on that it had to go on the upcoming album at the time.

However, it turns out that the band has trouble learning the song. Hetfield admitted that he had to relearn the intro so that he could play it live, and it would be removed from the track list and added back in as the band figured out how to play it. He said in a 2014 interview, “Once we put our sights onto whipping a song into shape and getting it together and ready to play, we're pretty good about putting it together and making it happen.”

The rest is history. “Nothing Else Matters” is now the track most people think of when it comes to Metallica. Well, that and “Enter Sandman,” which has its own dark backstory.

According to a new data study by luxury safari outfitter Go2Africa, which analyzed a mix of proprietary customer insights and global search trends, interest in independent journeys has hit its highest recorded peak ever.

In fact, global searches for "solo travel" hit a record-breaking 1.6 million queries in a single month at the start of the year—marking a whopping 230% increase over the last decade, with most people hunting down specific travel tips, group solo departures, and female-focused itineraries.

The report revealed that the United States represents over 55% of all global solo inquiries, making it the top source market in the world after seeing a massive 26% year-over-year jump in independent bookings.

But if you look closely at the map, certain states are packing their carry-ons far more than others. In terms of pure, raw volume, the powerhouse states of California, Florida, and Texas lead the country in producing solo travelers—which makes sense given their massive populations and major international airport hubs. New York and Illinois round out the top five slots for sheer volume.

However, when you normalize the data for population size to see where the actual solo travel obsession lives per capita, a completely different—and highly surprising—picture emerges.

The tiny but mighty District of Columbia comfortably takes the number-one spot in the nation, boasting 6.2 solo travel inquiries per 100,000 people. Right behind D.C. are Rhode Island, Nevada and Delaware, followed closely by New York. Experts suggest that these smaller, densely urbanized or highly mobile states have a much stronger appetite for independent, experiential travel, likely driven by fast-paced lifestyles, flexible remote work setups and an unwillingness to put dream trips on hold just because a companion can't tag along.

Interestingly, if you look at the sharpest spike in search curiosity rather than direct booking inquiries, states like North Dakota, Vermont and Arkansas are seeing massive waves of residents typing "solo travel" into their browsers this summer, indicating that the independent travel bug is quickly spreading into the heart of the country.

Ultimately, the boom proves that traveling solo has officially transitioned from a temporary trend into a permanent lifestyle fixture. It turns out the most rewarding way to see the world isn't waiting for the perfect group dynamic to magically align—it's locking in your own passport, setting your own schedule, and experiencing a dream destination entirely on your own terms.

Congratulations are in order for Tom Holland and Zendaya!

After months of speculation, Holland confirmed that he and the Euphoria actress have been secretly married for quite some time now.

While being interviewed by Esquire UK, the Spider-Man actor was asked about the widely circulated AI-generated wedding photos of the couple, with the outlet asking him if he had to tell his family members they were fake.

Holland responded, “No, because they were all there.”

When asked to elaborate on the top-secret wedding ceremony, the actor replied, “That's all you'll get on that.” 

The wedding reveal comes just shortly after Zendaya's longtime stylist, Law Roach, said in a viral March clip that, “The wedding has already happened. You missed it.”

Spider-Man fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hitting theaters on July 31, and a brand-new collaboration between Sony Pictures and Samsung is now offering fans a unique, immersive experience ahead of the movie.

Announced on June 16, this new collaboration puts a Spidey Tracker in the hands of fans, allowing them to locate and keep track of Spider-Man in an interactive campaign.

This immersive fan experience has a direct tie-in to Brand New Day, as audiences will soon see Peter Parker's best friend and "guy in the chair" himself, Ned Leeds, using a Spidey Tracker very similar to this one on the big screen. In the movie, Ned will track Spider-Man on his Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Watch, and while the real-life version has been slightly adapted for fan use, it will still bring this movie concept to life.

Carole King's "It's Too Late" was one of the songs on her masterpiece solo effort, Tapestry. The LP also included  “You’ve Got a Friend,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

The song ranked at No. 2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for the third full week of June, 1971. The song was also at the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100.

King's Tapestry was a collection of songs written after her split from Gerry Goffin. Their marriage and creative partnership ended in 1968. Following their split, King relocated to California and recorded the LP's songs in February 1971.

According to American Songwriter, King wrote "It's Too Late" as a final goodbye to her romance with Goffin. They met when she was 16, and he was 19 while students at Queens College, and married one year later. The couple welcomed daughters Louise and Sherry Goffin.

"It's Too Late," and other songs for Tapestry were recorded at A&M Studios in Los Angeles. Lou Adler produced the tune, and King and Toni Stern were its songwriters.

In an interview with CBS News, King shared that the song's lyrics were inspired not only by her own breakup, but also by Stern's split with James Taylor. “Those lyrics are by Ms. Toni Stern. And her lyrics really do speak for people going through divorces.”

Stern wrote the lyrics in 20 minutes. Ironically, Stern's ex-Taylor and his then-girlfriend Joni Mitchell contributed to Tapestry with guitar by Taylor and vocals by Mitchell.

King's most popular song on iTunes remains "It's Too Late." Her essential album is still listed as Tapestry.

Upon inducting King into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, Taylor Swift called one of her biggest musical influences "The Greatest Songwriter of All Time."
