This Brand-New Mega-Ship Features the Longest Dry Slide at Sea—And It’s a Total Visual Marvel

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 4:10am

The era of the mega-ship has completely changed how we think about a family vacation at sea. It’s no longer just about moving between destinations; it’s about the jaw-dropping architecture and the "how did they build that on a ship?" attractions that make you look up from your deck chair in absolute awe.

While waterslides have been a cruise staple for decades, the newest design frontier is all about the dry slide—giving guests an adrenaline-pumping, lightning-fast way to descend through the heart of the ship without needing to change into a swimsuit. And right now, MSC Cruises is preparing to debut a record-breaking centerpiece that doubles as a massive piece of public art.

The cruise line has just released a fresh look inside its upcoming flagship, MSC World Asia, which is currently under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in France. When the 6,700-passenger giant officially debuts on December 4, 2026, it will spend its inaugural winter season sailing sun-drenched, seven-night Mediterranean itineraries to bucket-list spots like Barcelona, Marseille, Naples and Valletta.

MSC Cruises

But while the ports are incredible, the real buzz is happening on the top decks. The newly unveiled images showcase The Spiral @ Tree of Life, a structural masterpiece that is officially locking in its title as the longest dry slide at sea.

Stretching a whopping 266 feet and twisting across 12 decks, the stainless-steel slide offers a wild, memorable drop that flings riders down to the ship's main promenade in a matter of seconds. What makes it truly special, though, is the design concept behind it. The slide wraps seamlessly around the "Tree of Life," an eight-ton, 32-foot-tall visual landmark positioned at the heart of The Harbour—the ship’s expansive outdoor family adventure district.

Theme park and travel insiders will immediately recognize the aesthetic inspiration. The design pays a gorgeous tribute to contemporary Asian cities, pulling its structural and artistic identity directly from the iconic, futuristic Supertrees of Singapore’s Marina Bay.

During the day, guests can use an elevated walkway that wraps around the tree, allowing families to gather, take photos and access the slide entrance. The structure itself is packed with over 492 feet of integrated LED lighting, meaning the energy and color profile of the space will constantly evolve as day turns into night. When the sun drops over the Mediterranean, the Tree of Life transforms into the focal point of the ship's evening entertainment, using synchronized lighting and music to create a high-energy, vibrant backyard vibe for families to enjoy an after-dinner stroll.

The slide links the upper family districts directly down to the World Promenade—a massive open-air space lined with ocean-view dining, shopping, and entertainment (including a dramatic 40-foot-long suspended dragon sculpture that ties into the ship's broader design theme).

Ultimately, MSC World Asia proves that next-generation cruising is all about blurring the lines between structural innovation and pure fun. It turns out the most exciting way to navigate your way down to dinner isn't waiting around for a standard elevator bank—it's stepping into a record-breaking spiral, chasing a Singapore-inspired light show, and leaning into a classic cruise vacation entirely on its own spectacular, gravity-defying terms.

1975 Classic Just Named the Greatest Breakup Album of All Time

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 3:52am

In 1976, an album dropped that turned heartbreak into great art in a way no one else ever has.

Bob Dylan's landmark 1975 release Blood on the Tracks was recently named the greatest breakup album of all time by BBC Music Magazine, which praised the record for capturing "the anatomy of heartbreak like no other record." The ranking placed Dylan's classic ahead of Fleetwood Mac'sRumours, Marvin Gaye'sHere, My Dear, Joni Mitchell'sBlue and Carole King'sTapestry.

According to the magazine, Blood on the Tracks stands above every other breakup album because it explores the full emotional spectrum of a collapsing relationship. The publication highlighted songs such as "Tangled Up in Blue," "Idiot Wind" and "If You See Her, Say Hello" as examples of Dylan examining love, regret, anger and acceptance from multiple perspectives.

Released in January 1975, Blood on the Tracks arrived during a turbulent period in Dylan's personal life and has long been associated with the breakdown of his marriage to Sara Dylan, though Dylan has repeatedly denied the album was autobiographical. One of the couple's sons, Jakob Dylan, famously described the songs as "my parents talking."

Dylan married Sara Lownds in November 1965. They share four children: Jesse, 60, Anna Lea, almost 59, Samuel, almost 57, and Jakob, 56. Dylan also adopted Lownds' daughter Maria, 64, who was four they got married. Dylan and Lownds divorced in 1977.

The album initially received mixed reviews but has since become widely regarded as one of Dylan's greatest achievements. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earned a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame and has regularly appeared near the top of lists ranking the greatest albums ever recorded. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 9 on its 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Rolling Stone described Blood on the Tracks as the album where Dylan turned "pain into musical splendor." The publication highlighted the raw emotion running through the songs, noting that the record transformed the collapse of a relationship into some of the most powerful songwriting of Dylan's career. Dylan himself seemed surprised by listeners' connection to the album, once saying, "A lot of people tell me they enjoyed that album. It's hard for me to relate to that... people enjoying that type of pain."

Related: 1964 Sam Cooke Classic Ranked in ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’ Became a Powerful Anthem

One interesting detail from the ranking is that Dylan was the only artist to appear twice. In addition to Blood on the Tracks taking the top spot, his 1974 album Planet Waves came in at No. 12. BBC described that earlier record as a portrait of a relationship beginning to fray, calling it a "prelude" to the emotional devastation Dylan would explore more fully on Blood on the Tracks.

More than 50 years after its release, Blood on the Tracks remains the gold standard for breakup albums. Whether listeners hear it as autobiography, fiction or something in between, its songs continue to resonate with anyone who has experienced love, loss and the complicated emotions that linger long after a relationship ends.

This Classic Rock Masterpiece Was Named the Album That Defined the Mood of 1968

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 3:38am

The year 1968 will go down in American history as one of the most turbulent years of the modern era. Amid widespread protests, political unrest, and growing distrust in institutions, the nation was shaken by the Vietnam War and the assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. As the country wrestled with uncertainty and division, musicians created some of the most emotional and socially conscious music ever recorded, the impact of which is still felt today.

In a recent ranking shared by BBC Music's Classical Music, the outlet named the best rock album of 1968—one that perfectly captured the mood and uncertainty of the era.

Classical Music highlighted 21 albums that reflected the psyche and emotions of the American public in 1968. The Doors'Waiting for the Sun was named the best rock album of the year, with the outlet noting that few records captured the tension of 1968 more accurately than the band's third studio album.

"By 1968, The Doors' vision of the American night had grown increasingly militaristic and grim. Waiting for the Sun features 'The Unknown Soldier,' Jim Morrison's direct, theatrical attack on the media's sterile presentation of the Vietnam War. With studio sound effects that mimicked a military execution squad and marching boots, the track brought the war directly into the living rooms of listeners."

How Waiting for the Sun Reflected America's Turmoil

Released in July 1968, Waiting for the Sun arrived at a moment when America was confronting war abroad and unrest at home. While the album features lighter-toned tracks such as "Hello, I Love You," it also reveals a darker and more politically aware side of the band.

The album became the Doors' best-selling album in the United States. The track "The Unknown Soldier" offered Jim Morrison's direct commentary on the Vietnam War, and the song's dramatic sound effects, including a simulated execution, confronted listeners with the realities of a conflict that was being broadcast into American living rooms through television news coverage.

Central to the album's significance was "The Unknown Soldier," one of the Doors' most overtly political songs. The track reflected the growing unease many Americans felt about the war and showcased the band's willingness to tackle controversial subjects through music.

Why Waiting for the Sun Still Matters Today

Waiting for the Sun captured the emotional exhaustion and paranoia that defined much of 1968. More than 50 years later, it remains one of the most influential albums in rock history.

The album offers a snapshot of a nation at a crossroads. Its political commentary and artistic ambition elevated the Doors' legacy while creating a lasting time capsule of one of the most divisive periods in American history. Through its blend of social commentary, experimentation, and memorable songwriting, Waiting for the Sun continues to resonate with listeners decades after its release.

‘Queen of Literary Twitter’ Turns 88

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 3:34am

Joyce Carol Oates has written enough books to fill a library.

With more than 60 novels and upward of 30 short story collections, as well as countless plays, poetry volumes, essays, memoirs, and abbreviated Twitter tales, the acclaimed author’s bibliography is massive. And at 88, she’s not finished yet.

Born June 16, 1938, in Lockport, New York, Oates discovered her passion for the written word early. At 14, she was given her first typewriter, setting her on a path that would take her from Syracuse University to renowned author.

Oates's first book, a collection of short stories called By the North Gate, was published in 1963, followed by her debut novel, With Shuddering Fall, in 1964. Four years later, she relocated to Canada to teach at the University of Windsor. It’s here that she established her signature pace, releasing two to three books a year.

Over the course of her writing career, her most acclaimed works include the National Book Award-winning novel them and bestseller Blonde, as well as fan favorites The Falls and We Were the Mulvaneys. Themes revisited throughout the pages of her books include violence, class, and family trauma, perhaps most notably in works like Black Water and Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?

Over her six-decade-plus career, Oates has collected nearly every major literary honor, from National Book Awards to the National Humanities Medal. One of the more unexpected titles she recently added to her trove? Queen of Literary Twitter.

In November 2025, Literary Hub crowned Oates the winner of its Literary Twitter bracket, celebrating Oates for her prolific, unpredictable, and endlessly entertaining online presence.

“It’s fitting that Oates is donning the Bracket Crown, not only as a true master of the short post, but as someone whose dedication to being online validates the entire project of Literary Twitter, whatever it was,” the outlet wrote. “Maybe if someone so talented and so celebrated is also So Logged On, there’s hope for the rest of us too.”

Today, as Oates celebrates her birthday and the release of her latest collection of short stories, The Frenzy, she remains one of the most productive and fascinating writers of our time. We can’t do anything but marvel.

Happy birthday, Joyce! You are truly a queen.

Amazon’s ‘Sturdy’ $87 Farmhouse Side Table Is ‘Excellent for Small Spaces’ and Offers ‘Plenty of Storage’

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 2:30am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you’ve ever tried to set up a small living room, you know how frustrating it can be to find furniture that actually fits. Everything either feels too bulky, too flimsy, or just doesn’t do enough — especially when you need it to serve as a surface space and extra storage. Before you know it, you’ve got remotes on the couch, books stacked on the floor, and nowhere to put the everyday stuff you need on hand.

Spaces where every inch counts tend to work best when pieces pull double duty. The Linsy Home Farmhouse End Table at Amazon does exactly that, combining a streamlined look with practical function that fits into tighter spaces. Even better, it’s currently 38% off, bringing the price from $140 down to $87.

This end table is “excellent for small spaces,” according to shoppers, measuring 23.6 inches deep, 13.8 inches wide, and 22.8 inches tall. It includes a built-in, hidden charging station so you don’t need extra power strips cluttering the floor, featuring three standard electrical outlets (for items such as lamps or alarm clocks) and two USB ports (for charging phones, earbuds, or other small devices that use a USB cable). The tabletop also has built-in grooves that help guide cords downward so they don’t take up space across the surface or get tangled.

Delivering “plenty of storage,” the inside of this end table is split into several sections so you can separate items instead of piling everything together. There’s a drawer for smaller essentials, a closed cabinet with a door for items you want out of sight, and an additional back display shelf for decor or frequently used items. A detachable holder can sit in the drawer to hold remotes, cups, or small accessories, and can be removed if you want open space instead. The table supports up to 118 pounds, making it substantial enough for books, vases, picture frames, and decorative objects.

Built from “sturdy” engineered wood with a waterproof surface, it’s designed for durability with a smooth finish that wipes clean with a damp or dry microfiber cloth. Metal drawer slides and handles help ensure smooth opening and closing, while reinforced legs provide added stability so it holds up well in high-use areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and entryways. Shoppers said this side table is “easy to set up,” with one reviewer noting, “The directions are very clear with drawings at each step. Everything is well labeled, and the tools required are included.”

It comes in three finishes, including brown oak woodgrain, washed grey, and matte black. The brown version is the most affordable at $87, while the grey is on sale for $99 and the black is $100, so even the higher-priced options provide strong value.

PayCheck is the son of outlaw country icon Johnny PayCheck, while Jennings carries the famous Jennings name associated with Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter.

According to information released alongside the collaboration, the track generated approximately 20,000 streams during its first week. The song focuses on themes of legacy, family expectations and creating an individual path despite growing up around well-known names.

Jennings has built a strong independent following since returning to music after his release from prison in 2016. His career includes collaborations with artists such as Jelly Roll, Adam Calhoun, Yelawolf, Tom MacDonald, Nova Rockafeller and Brantley Gilbert.

Among his best-known releases are the RIAA Gold-certified songs “Fall In The Fall” with Jelly Roll and “God We Need You Now” featuring Caitlynne Curtis.

Born William Curtis Harness Jr. in Nashville, Tennessee, Jennings began his music career in the early 2000s by selling mixtapes independently. He later became one of the original members of Yelawolf’s Slumerican label roster.

Over the years, he has released several projects, including The Widow's Son, Angels & Outlaws, Troubadour of Troubled Souls, Outlaw Shxt, Monte Carlo, El Camino and most recently Last Name.

The tour announcement also follows personal news shared earlier this year by Jennings and his wife, Tabitha. In January, the couple revealed they are expecting a baby in July 2026. The child will be Jennings’ eighth.

With a growing family, new music releases and an extensive tour schedule stretching across North America, Jennings continues to add new chapters to a career that has combined outlaw country influences, Southern rap and personal storytelling.

This '50s Music Icon Was Called 'The Real King of Rock N' Roll' by Elvis Presley

Tue, 06/16/2026 - 1:30am

For most people, the general conception of rock music is that it was pioneered in large part by Elvis Presley, but once once you dig into the history and learn about his career, you begin to understand the bigger picture that's present. Presley was more accurately the person who got the most recognition for pioneering rock music, when in actuality he was wearing some very clear influences on his sleeve that people weren't aware of, chief among them being the legendary Fats Domino.

Domino was among the first group of artists to be inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, which was absolutely a deserved honor. The multitude of artists he has influenced is practically responsible for an entire genre, including The Beatles and of course Elvis Presley, who said that Domino was "the real king of rock n' roll."

@rockhall

Fats Domino — an Inductee from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's inaugural class, who Elvis Presley himself called the real king of rock & roll — performed some of his greatest hits at Austin City Limits, including “Blueberry Hill,” “Ain’t That a Shame,” and “Walking to New Orleans." #fatsdomino #austincitylimits #neworleans #elvis #ACL

♬ original sound - Rock Hall

The Rock Hall recently commemorated this statement with footage of Domino's performance at Austin City Limits in 1986, the same year he would be immortalized by their institution. The song "Blueberry Hill" featured in the clips is arguably his most celebrated song, holding a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The song is so clearly influential, with the sound appearing all across rock music to come. "Lady Madonna" was reportedly written to emulate Domino's style, which is quite obvious once you listen to them together, as well as listen to Domino's cover of the song.

A lot of the lineage of rock music has been lost to public consciousness. The genre has its roots in black culture and music, specifically in early R&B music. This is something that Presley admitted himself, stating that "Rock 'n' roll was here a long time before I came along. Let's face it: I can't sing like Fats Domino can. I know that."

All these years later, Domino remains a legendary pioneer of the genre, and one of the greatest to ever do it. His music is full of life, rhythm, and a great feeling that makes you want to bob your head and dance.

Accepting my new scars has been one of the hardest parts of this injury mentally and it’s still a work in progress but I’ll get there. "

"Thank you Gucci for putting me in this incredible dress straight off the runway ❤️ I felt so Gucci 💃🏼," the athlete added.

The post marked another step forward for the decorated skier, who has spent recent months recovering from severe injuries suffered during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Vonn's Olympic campaign came to a sudden end in February after a devastating crash during the women's downhill event. The accident resulted in major injuries to her leg and ankle and required extensive medical treatment.

Vonn underwent eight operations following the crash. She later revealed that the surgeries were critical to saving her leg.

The physical recovery has been difficult, but Vonn's latest message highlighted the emotional side of healing. While the athlete has made public appearances in recent weeks, wearing a dress that exposed her scars represented a significant personal milestone.

The latest appearance comes during an active period of recovery for the skiing icon.

Just weeks earlier, Vonn attended the Monaco Grand Prix, where she was seen confidently walking through the Formula One paddock. The appearance followed another major milestone when she attended the Met Gala without crutches after months of rehabilitation.

Despite the setback from her Olympic injuries, Vonn has continued to receive recognition for her achievements in alpine skiing.

Earlier this month, she was named Athlete of the Year and Best Comeback for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard women's Alpine team at the Stifel Awards. The honors were voted on by teammates and staff members.

Before her season-ending crash, Vonn had enjoyed an impressive return to competition after coming out of retirement in 2024. She captured victories and podium finishes throughout the season and entered the Winter Olympics as one of the sport's top competitors.

Outside of skiing, Vonn has also remained active in the sports world. Recently, she shared a video message congratulating tennis legend Serena Williams following Williams' return to professional competition, saying: "Hey, Serena. Congratulations. So proud of you. The GOAT is back."

For now, Vonn's focus remains on recovery and adapting to life after one of the most serious injuries of her career.

1987 Power Ballad, an Overlooked Prom Anthem, Remains a Nostalgic Classic 39 Years Later

Mon, 06/15/2026 - 11:14pm

Bon Jovi’s breakthrough album, 1986’s Slippery When Wet, spawned several iconic hits, such as “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Livin’ on a Prayer,” and “Wanted Dead or Alive.”

Those songs inarguably helped define the ‘80s glam metal era. Yet, among the rock band’s string of successful singles, a fourth track on the project managed to leave a lasting impression on fans, earning massive radio play despite never being eligible to chart on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 because it was not sold as a commercial standalone single in the U.S.

That song is “Never Say Goodbye.”

The power ballad became available on June 15, 1987, and nearly 40 years later still resonates deeply with listeners due to its nostalgic lyrics, written by lead singer Jon Bon Jovi and bandmate and guitarist Richie Sambora

Featuring electric guitar licks, a steady drum beat, and a soaring and anthemic chorus, “Never Say Goodbye” makes for a fitting addition to any arena-rock concert setlist.

Lyrically, the track takes a heartfelt trip down memory lane as it tells the story of high school sweethearts holding tight to their precious memories and young love before being faced with the possibility of going their separate ways.

In the song, Jon Bon Jovi makes reference to epic prom nights, late-night drives, and skipping classes, capturing the nostalgic feeling of growing up and moving on after creating some of the best times with friends and loved ones.

“Never Say Goodbye” may not have been ranked at the top of any Bon Jovi “best of” list, and the undeniable power ballad has yet to win any major awards, but the track has gone on to become a timeless classic as an anthem for high school romances. The track, in 2024, was also listed by American Songwriter as one of the ‘80s power ballads that is still considered a “slow banger.”

Following its release, “Never Say Goodbye” peaked at No. 11 on the Mainstream Rock Chart and No. 21 on the UK singles chart.

’90s Hardcore Band Announces Update Amid 2026 Tour

Mon, 06/15/2026 - 11:13pm

Converge, an iconic metalcore band, announced an exciting update for the 2026 Saddest Day Festival.

The curated heavy-music festival organized by the Boston-based band is set to host another full day of aggressive underground music.

In an Instagram post, the band revealed the dates for the highly anticipated event.

From the one-day concert last year, the annual festival will expand, now having a two-day show set on December 12 and 13 at Roadrunner in Boston.

The post sparked excitement among fans, who couldn’t wait to see the lineup of artists and musicians participating at this year’s Saddest Day Festival.

Jacob Bannon of Converge performs at ArcTanGent Festival 2023 at Fernhill Farm on August 17, 2023 in Bristol, England.

Katja Ogrin/Redferns

“I heard the lineup is going to be CRAZY,” one wrote.

“hell yeah, let’s go!” a commenter said.

Others dropped the name of the bands they wished to see at the music festival.

“Neurosis, Deafheaven, Touche Amore, Portrayal of Guilt please!” a follower remarked.

“Neurosis please and thank you,” a fan added.

“Modern Life is War & Fiddlehead?” one asked.

The same goes for another Instagram user who said, “Converge-Universe bands? Neurosis, Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Mutoid Man etc. Stoked!!!”

As of this writing, Converge has yet to announce the artists and bands joining this year’s event.

View this post on Instagram

However, the iconic metalcore band is rumored to deliver a “special anniversary set” over the weekend, as mentioned by Lambgoat.

The upcoming festival is in celebration of Converge’s new album, Hum of Hurt.

The 12th studio album was released on June 5 under Epitaph Records and Deathwish Inc.

The four-piece group, fronted by Jacob Bannon, guitarist Kurt Ballou, bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller, had the inaugural Saddest Day Festival on Dec. 13, 2025, which took place in Converge’s home state at the Roadrunner venue in Boston.

According to the band, the name of the music festival was inspired by their 1996 track "The Saddest Day" from their second studio album Petitioning the Empty Sky.

The one-day event showcased not only showstopping performances from Coalesce, The Hope Conspiracy, Soul Glo, Year Of The Knife, Stress Positions, Wormwood, hard-rock band Touché Amoré and more but also featured a curated art exhibition from Jacob Bannon himself and other interdisciplinary artists.
