'No. 1 Party Anthem' Hits 1 Billion Streams After 13 Years

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:37am

Thirteen years after releasing their most commercially successful album, AM, Arctic Monkeys earned another major milestone as "No. 1 Party Anthem" continued to prove its enduring popularity by scoring a major streaming achievement.

Spotify, one of the world's largest music streaming platforms, unveils a list celebrating songs that have surpassed one billion streams.

For July, the rock band's 2013 track officially joined Spotify's Billions Club after hitting the one billion-stream mark, alongside popular singles like Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train," Pink's "What About Us," Blink-182's pop-punk anthem "What's My Age Again?" and more.

As a result, this also marked Arctic Monkeys' seventh entry into the exclusive club, joining "I Wanna Be Yours," "R U Mine?," "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?," "505," "Fluorescent Adolescent" and "Do I Wanna Know?" which has over three billion streams.

Written by lead vocalist Alex Turner, "No. 1 Party Anthem" is not a fast-paced club song but rather a melancholic indie rock ballad, the complete opposite of its title.

Rolling Stone Australia even described it as "one of the best late-night tales" that the Arctic Monkeys frontman has ever told.

As for Turner, he described it as a "kind of midnight where you feel like you're in this parallel universe."

In a separate interview, the 40-year-old musician spoke about the journey of writing the melody to sound natural and conversational instead of following a catchy formula.

"I was trying to get away from melodies that stick on something, and it was one of the first melodies that meandered around a bit," he told Uncut via Songfacts. "You get that on 'Do I Wanna Know?' and a couple of others, as well, on the melody and the bridge. It's almost kind of conversational more than melodic. It doesn't seem to follow a formula. You don't really know where the next line is going to move melodically, which is exciting for me".

"No. 1 Party Anthem" served as the sixth track on the band's fifth album, which was heavily promoted by its six official singles.

However, despite never being released as an official single, it has become one of the band's most beloved deep cuts, earning a devoted following over the years.

The song's timeless appeal also led to its massive resurgence, especially on TikTok.

With this, "No. 1 Party Anthem" finally made its debut on the Billboard Global 200, peaking at No. 177.

Top Ranked 1976 Album, Featuring Grammy Nominated 'Wild is the Wind,' Was Forgotten by Its Iconic Creator

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:33am

50 years ago the legendary David Bowie found himself within the maelstrom of bursting creativity, crippling drug addiction, and a newfound superstardom that made him a household name. Coming off of starring in his first film, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Bowie was in a powder keg of creative and personal turmoil that burst into one of his most universally beloved albums, "Station to Station."

Over the years the album has achieved a legendary status as one of the heights of Bowie's career. The album was ranked 52nd on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list, and the closing track "Wild is the Wind" was nominated for a Grammy. It's a near universally acclaimed and beloved expression of Bowie's talent. The interesting part of this is that Bowie doesn't remember any of his time making the album.

Throughout the production of the album, Bowie was heavily abusing cocaine, which is something he has spoken about very openly in the years afterward when he got clean. This is combined with the subsequent tour following the album where Bowie's addiction in combination with him falling deep into his album persona of the "Thin White Duke" caused him to have a series of controversial concerts where he reportedly was acting like a fascist sympathizer.

All of this is to show how improbable the success of this album is on paper. Bowie was going through a lot personally which would typically creatively derail a project of this size and anticipation. Bowie was no mere man however, and he managed to deliver one of his most iconic records of all time.

Featuring songs like the title track, "Word on a Wing", "Stay", and "Wild is the Wind" (my personal favorite), the album has some of Bowie strongest material, and carries a unique atmosphere of darkness, coldness, and coolness. It's absolute must listen material for any music fan.

1960 Song Hit No. 1 When Brian Hyland Was Only 16—and He Never Returned to High School

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:19am

“Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” was a 1960 song by Brian Hyland, a teen idol at the time. The song was a worldwide hit that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the years, the song was included in multiple films and television shows, including Doctor Who, Contact, Sister Act 2, and Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise.

In an interview with Gary James, Hyland spoke about how the song was originally created. “After recording some demos for Sammy Kaye's publishing company, I was signed to Kapp Records to record my first record, ‘Rosemary,’ which sold about 20,000,” he said. “While preparing to record a second session, the writers, Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss, brought in the Bikini song, which I learned over the weekend and then recorded. It was released within weeks.”

He went on to reveal he was still in high school when the song hit No. 1. “As it turned out, the ‘Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’ record came out and up the charts to number one in the Summer of 1960, and I was on the road in the Fall and never returned to high school. I finished at a school for professionals in New York City with actors like Patty Duke.”

Although he achieved fame when he was only a teenager, he started performing at a young age. He created his first band, The Delfis, when he was only 12. When speaking about his first band, he said, “Well, my group The Delfis was actually a Doo Wop vocal group for fun, and I played guitar. We made a demo tape and took the subway to make the rounds of record companies. We were young and basically dismissed, but I was persistent and ambitious, that's all.”

Hyland had other hits over the years, including “Sealed with a Kiss,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also recorded “Ginny Come Lately” and “The Joker Went Wild.”

Hyland is now 82. He still occasionally performs live. His son, Bodi, commonly performs with him.

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:16am

Earth, Wind & Fire postponed their San Francisco show on Thursday, Aug. 7, just a few minutes before taking the stage.

“We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band,” the group posted an Instagram. “As a result, tonight’s show with Lionel Richie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon."

"Ticket holders should retain their tickets, which will be honored for the new date, or refunds will be available at the point of purchase," they continued. "We sincerely apologize for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone's understanding."

There were no further details on which member suffered the medical emergency or how severe it was.

However, TMZ further reported that Mariano Elias, a rep for the SF Fire Department, told the outlet that a fire engine and a private ambulance were at the Chase Center ahead of the concert, responding to a "cardiac incident." Elias said that the ambulance transported one person to the local hospital and the patient is in critical condition.

The Easy Way To Make Sweet Corn 10x Better

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:13am

August is sweet corn season, and there’s simply no better time to enjoy one of summer’s greatest gifts. Farmers markets and roadside stands are overflowing with freshly picked ears, grocery stores are stocking local harvests, and backyard cookouts seem incomplete without a platter of steaming corn on the cob. While sweet corn is naturally delicious, there’s a surprisingly simple cooking trick that transforms it from great to unforgettable.

Most people cook corn the same way they always have: by dropping it into a pot of boiling water before serving it with butter and salt. It’s a classic approach that rarely disappoints, but it isn’t the only way to bring out the corn’s natural sweetness and tender texture. There’s an easy technique that generations of home cooks have relied on to create corn that’s exceptionally juicy, flavorful and worthy of being the star of any summer meal. Best of all, it requires very little extra effort and uses ingredients you likely already have in your refrigerator.

If you’ve been wondering how to make sweet corn even better, this simple kitchen trick is worth trying. Whether you’re planning a weeknight dinner, hosting a family barbecue or looking for a fresh way to enjoy peak-season produce, this method can elevate every ear of corn. After testing it out, we promise you'll never go back to the old way again.

The Secret Ingredient: The 'Milk and Butter Bath'

Courtesy Julie Andrews

The secret couldn't be simpler—boil the corn in a mixture of water, whole milk, butter and a small pinch of sugar.

The recipe looks like this:

  • 6-8 cups water
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, but recommended if the corn isn't at peak sweetness)
  • 6-8 ears of fresh sweet corn

Bring the water and milk to a gentle simmer—not a vigorous boil. Stir in the butter, then add the sugar. I also like to add a few pinches of salt too. Carefully place the husked corn into the pot, and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the size and freshness of the ears.

As the corn cooks, it bathes in a rich mixture that coats every kernel. While the kernels don't become saturated with butter like a sponge, the warm milk and butter cling to the surface and create an incredibly creamy, rich bite. Plus, the tiny bit of sugar and salt enhances the corn's own natural sweetness rather than making it taste sugary.

The result is sweet corn that's tender, juicy and incredibly flavorful before you even add your favorite toppings. I, for one, grew up eating sweet corn boiled in water, and while it was always a hit, I am truly floored at this method's success in making the most juicy, tender and flavorful ears of corn I've ever enjoyed.

The Culinary Science: Why Milk Makes It 10x Better

Courtesy Julie Andrews

So, why does boiling corn in milk and butter seem to make such a difference?

The answer lies in both flavor and texture. Sweet corn naturally contains sugars that begin converting into starch shortly after it's harvested. Fresh August corn still retains plenty of natural sweetness, but gentle cooking helps preserve its tender texture.

"Simmering corn in a mixture of milk, butter, water and a little bit of sugar will enhance its natural sweetness and result in a richer, more flavorful ear compared to cooking with plain water," says Chef Gabriella DiSanto, a Pennsylvania-based culinary art director.

Each ingredient brings a little something to the table, and when they work together, the result is milk-boiled sweet corn that tastes incredible.

Milk contains proteins, fats and natural milk sugars. During cooking, these components create a rich cooking environment that lightly coats the corn's exterior. Combined with melted butter, every bite feels creamier and more luxurious.

The butter contributes fat, which carries flavor exceptionally well. Instead of adding butter only after cooking, simmering the corn alongside butter means the kernels emerge already lightly coated and ready to eat. DiSanto says "the process works because the low simmer gently cooks the corn and allows the fats and sugars to coat the kernels while maintaining their crisp juiciness."

The small amount of added sugar isn't there to sweeten the milk. Instead, it simply boosts the perception of sweetness already present in the corn, especially if the ears aren't perfectly fresh. The generous pinch of salt I add to the milk and butter mixture also enhances the natural flavors of the corn.

Together, these ingredients produce corn that tastes richer, smoother and noticeably more indulgent than traditional boiling.

Traditional Boiling vs. the Milk Bath Method

Courtesy Julie Andrews

Both methods produce delicious sweet corn, but there are some noticeable differences. Traditional boiling is quick, simple and lets the corn's natural flavor shine completely on its own. It's an excellent option when you have exceptionally fresh, just-picked corn.

The milk bath method takes only a few extra ingredients, but it delivers a noticeably richer experience. The kernels feel more tender, every bite has a subtle buttery finish and the corn often requires less butter after serving.

DiSanto says the freshness of the corn determines the most appropriate cooking method. "I find that if I get my corn just picked from the market, it is generally sweet enough for a standard water simmer. I love that fresh corn flavor!" she says. "However, if the corn is out of season, simmering in milk, butter and sugar would be a great route to take to enhance the natural flavor and sweetness, making it taste more like its fresh-picked self again."

If you're seeking an extra-special corn eating experience, it's quite possible you've found the best method out there. The milk bath method gives your corn a restaurant-quality upgrade with almost no extra effort, perfect for backyard get-togethers and simple weeknight dinners. Once you try it, traditionally boiled corn may start feeling a little plain by comparison.

3 Compound Butters to Elevate It Even Further

Yummy pic / Getty Images

Even though the corn comes out rich and buttery, a homemade compound butter can make it even more memorable. To make it, simply mix together softened butter with fresh or dried herbs, spices and other flavorful ingredients, wrap it in plastic wrap or parchment paper, place it in a sealed container and refrigerate or freeze until ready to use.

Here are a few compound butter combinations that will win anyone over.

Elote Compound Butter

Inspired by Mexican street corn, this butter delivers bold flavor with minimal effort. Combine ½ cup softened butter, 1 teaspoon chili powder, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 teaspoon lime zest, 2 tablespoons crumbled Cotija cheese and 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro. Spread over hot corn, and finish with an extra squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Classic Garlic Herb

If you're looking for a timeless pairing, garlic herb butter never disappoints. Combine ½ cup softened butter, 2 cloves minced garlic, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, 1 teaspoon fresh chives, a pinch of sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. The fresh herbs complement the sweet kernels without overpowering them.

Honey Chipotle

For those who enjoy a balance of sweet and smoky heat, this combination is hard to beat. Combine ½ cup softened butter, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon chipotle powder, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika and a pinch of salt. The honey enhances the corn's natural sweetness while the chipotle adds a gentle smoky kick that pairs beautifully with grilled meats.

Final Thoughts

Courtesy Julie Andrews

Fresh sweet corn is already one of August's greatest pleasures, but a simple milk and butter bath can elevate it into something truly special. It's an easy technique that requires almost no additional effort, yet delivers richer flavor, tender kernels and a subtle creaminess that make every bite more satisfying.

Whether you're preparing dinner for your family or serving a crowd at a backyard cookout, this sweet corn hack is worth trying at least once during peak corn season. Pair it with salted butter or your favorite elevated compound butter, and you'll have a side dish that's just as memorable as anything coming off the grill.

If you've been searching for the best way to cook sweet corn, wondering whether milk-boiled corn on the cob lives up to the hype or simply looking for a new way to enjoy summer's freshest harvest, this method proves that sometimes the smallest cooking tricks make the biggest difference.

Whoopi Goldberg, 70, Revealed This Iconic Movie Role Was Supposed To Go to Bette Midler

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:07am

Whoopi Goldberg recently appeared on “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” and spoke about her iconic role in Sister Act. Although she received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the 1992 film, she revealed that she wasn’t originally meant to play the lead character.

“They wrote that for Bette Midler. That wasn’t mine,” she explained. “Every time I went looking for something, they were like, ‘Oh, no, no, no. This isn’t for you.’ So, I said to my agents, ‘Give me all the stuff that people have turned down.’”

Related:Barbra Streisand, 84, Just Announced a New Project

Goldberg revealed that this wasn’t the only film that was originally meant for someone else. She added, “I got Burglar that way because that was Bruce Willis’ movie. Jumping Jack Flash was Shelley Long’s movie. Um, there’s several, a whole bunch of movies I got [that way].”

In a Rolling Stone interview, Midler also spoke about the film. She revealed she turned down the role of Sister Mary Clarence “because I said, ‘My fans don’t want to see me in a wimple.’ And Whoopi [Goldberg] said, ‘Bring on the goddamn wimple.’”

Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit was released in 1993. It was loosely based on Iris Stevenson, a Crenshaw High School choir instructor from Buffalo, New York.

Sister Act 3 is currently in the works. According to Deadline, “Tim Federle has been brought on to direct with Madhuri Shekar writing the script on the sequel starring Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg will reprise her role as Deloris, the nightclub singer turned nun, and will also produce the pic along with Tyler Perry. Tom Leonardis is also producing.”

Unfortunately, the team was forced to make some changes to their plan after Maggie Smith died in 2024 at the age of 89. “We’re having to make some readjustments because we just lost Maggie Smith, as you know,” Goldberg explained, as reported by Variety. “And so, we will get it done. We will get it done. It just is a shift.”

Brandi Carlile Postpones Entire European Tour: 'I Have No Choice'

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 8:04am

Brandi Carlile has made the difficult decision to reschedule her tour dates in Europe this fall.

Due to what she described as "personal circumstances," Carlile announced via Instagram on Friday, Aug. 7 that the entire European leg of her tour has been postponed, with one date getting canceled altogether.

"To my friends in the UK and Europe, I need to let you know that due to personal circumstances, I have no choice but to reschedule my UK and European tour from this fall to the spring," she wrote to her fans on Friday.

She continued: "I have been so profoundly anxious about this decision and I’m aware that this change may be disappointing and inconvenient for many of you, especially those of you who were planning on traveling internationally, but I am hoping this gives you all enough time to adjust any plans."

Most of the shows on the tour have been rescheduled for new dates, while some of the venues have been changed, meaning fans with tickets to the original show will be refunded, and will have to participate in another sale to obtain tickets for the rescheduled date.

View this post on Instagram

"My team has been working really hard behind the scenes to reschedule the tour with as little disruption as possible. However, due to availability, a few of the venues have changed, but we thought it was more important to get back over there and play these shows as soon as we possibly could," Carlile continued in her announcement. "The good news is, this has also enabled us to add more shows which I couldn’t be more excited to play!"

Unfortunately for fans in Portugal, Carlile's show in Lisbon was unable to be rescheduled, and consequently has been canceled.

"I’m so sorry and I promise we will do everything in our power to get back to you as soon as we can," Carlile wrote to her Portuguese fans.

Carlile ended the Instagram post by telling her fans, "Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. I want nothing more than to see my friends across the pond and I have done everything in my power to avoid rescheduling this tour. I sincerely hope you’ll all come back and see me in the spring. I promise I will make it up to you and that it will be worth the wait!"

Why Weren't Lindsay Clancy's Fingerprints Found on Exercise Bands? (Exclusive)

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:51am

Lindsay Clancy's trial is wrapping up its second week, though some people who are following the case have been left with more questions than answers.

As evidence is being presented in front of a Massachusetts jury, there are some things that have stood out to the public, causing confusion. One piece of evidence in particular has caused a stir on social media, as forensic testimony revealed that Clancy's fingerprints were not found on the exercise bands that the prosecution says she used to strangle her three young children. Moreover, her fingerprints were also not recovered from a knife that the prosecution says she used to cut herself before jumping out of her bedroom window.

Parade reached out to retired FBI agent Jason Pack for some insight.

Was Lindsay Clancy's DNA Found on the Exercise Bands?

Pack explains that some people are confusing DNA with fingerprints. In this case, Clancy's DNA was found on the exercise bands.

"My understanding is that Lindsay Clancy’s DNA was in fact found on the exercise bands. I believe both sides agreed to that in court," Pack says.

"What investigators could not get were usable fingerprints, off the bands or off the knife in the bedroom. Those are two very different things, and I think they have gotten blended together in the coverage. In my experience, that is not surprising at all," he added.

Related: Read the Transcript of the 911 Call Made by Patrick Clancy

Why Weren't Lindsay Clancy's Fingerprints Found on the Exercise Bands or the Knife?

"I want to be clear I am not a lab guy. My background is working scenes on an FBI Evidence Response Team, not sitting at a bench," Pack says before explaining further.

"Fingerprints are fragile. You need a smooth surface and the right kind of contact. Rubber exercise bands are stretchy and textured, and that whole family had handled them for months," he tells Parade. "A knife gripped hard and covered in blood tends to leave a smear, not a ridge pattern."

Pack says that since Clancy has admitted to killing her children, neither side is using this evidence to prove that Clancy didn't commit the act. Because of this, a "missing fingerprint is not a crack in the case."

Why Is Lindsay Clancy on Trial?

Clancy is a former labor and delivery nurse who worked at Massachusetts General Hospital. On Jan. 24, 2023, Clancy admits to killing Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, inside their Duxbury, Massachusetts, while her then-husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands.

The prosecution alleges that Lindsay was of sound mind and that she knowingly murdered her children while the defense argues that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the murders. The defense is fighting to prove that Lindsay was not criminally responsible for her actions.

Country Star, With No. 1 Hit, Involved in First-Ever Announcement

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:45am

This country star has some refreshing news.

Ella Langley, best known for her hit "Choosin' Texas," revealed that her new collaboration with BUM Energy is now avaliable on TikTok Shop, as well as a retail launch on Sept. 1. The partnership with RAW Nutrition was originally announced last month. The new flavor, "Peaches & Honey," honors her Alabama roots and Southern upbringing. Fans who attended shows during her Dandelion Tour earlier this year already got a sneak peek and spotted BUM Energy trailers parked outside tour stops for promotion.

"It’s here!! Meet my new BUM Energy flavor, Peaches & Honey 🍑🍯," Langley wrote on her HQ Instagram, her account dedicated to sharing updates and behind-the-scenes clips to her fans. "Order exclusively online through the link in bio while supplies last or find it at retailers nationwide starting 9/1!"

Ella Langley performs during the 2026 CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium on June 04, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee.

According to Raw Nutrition CEO Domenic Iacovone, he shared on Instagram that Langley's manager originally gave him a "maybe" when his team came up to her for a possible collaboration. Over the span of a few months, Iacovone shared his vision for the drink and branding with the 27-year-old singer, and she eventually agreed.

"Ella spent the last few months dialing in a flavor that has never been done. I’ll be honest even I had major reservations on this flavor, but it was true to her and in order for partnerships like this to work, they need to be authentic. And the flavor is absolutely insane!" Iacovone wrote. "I’m so proud to say that we are constantly doing the things that people said couldn’t happen."

Langley released her second studio album, Dandelion, in April 2026 and will be going on the second leg of her Dandelion Tour starting next Thursday. The "Loving Life Again" singer started her professional music career in 2017 and had many songs go viral on TikTok during the early 2020s.

Her biggest hit, "Choosin' Texas," the second single released before the announcement of Dandelion, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 39 after going viral on TikTok. Co-written and co-produced by fellow country singer Miranda Lambert, it eventually hit the top spot on the chart and spent 16 weeks there. "Choosin' Texas" was also at the No. 1 spot on the publication's Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts at the same time, making her the first female country artist to achieve that.

"I can’t thank y’all enough for what you’ve done with this song, it blows my mind every single day," Langley shared on Instagram when she hit the major milestone. "Here’s to women & country music ♥️."

Ella Langley's "Peaches & Honey" collaboration with BUM Energy is out now on TikTok Shop. The beverage can be found in retail stores starting Sept. 1.

Cheese Listeria Outbreak in NY

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:43am

If you’re in New York and you recently purchased cheese for your favorite dish, check your refrigerator.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has assigned its highest-risk Class I designation to a recall involving multiple cheese products distributed by Clover Hill Dairy after they were linked to a Listeria monocytogenes outbreak.

According to the FDA, the ongoing multistate outbreak has sickened 12 people, led to 10 hospitalizations, and has been linked to one death. A Class I recall means there is a reasonable probability that consuming the affected products could cause serious health consequences or death.

The recall was issued after multiple cheese samples collected by the Maryland Department of Health tested positive for Listeria. The affected products include a wide variety of cheeses, including ricotta (requesón), cuajada, cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby, pepper jack, smoked cheddar, jalapeño cheddar, Old Bay cheddar, horseradish cheddar, and assorted cheese snack packs sold in a variety of sizes.

The FDA also warns that some of the recalled cheeses may have been sold under brand names including KESSO, QUESOS LA RICURA, IZALCO, DE MI PUEBLO, and RIO LINDO. Consumers who have purchased any recalled products are urged not to eat them. Instead, they should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria infection can be especially dangerous for pregnant people, newborns, adults 65 and older, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and gastrointestinal illness.

The FDA says its investigation into the outbreak is ongoing. Consumers can find the complete list of recalled products and additional updates on the FDA's website.

Elvis Presley’s Longtime Love Shares Rare Photos of Their Private Life Together

Preserving Elvis Presley's memory is a lifelong calling for those who loved him most.

Decades after his passing, Presley's ex-Linda Thompson has opened up her photo vault, giving fans a candid peek at the man behind the music. In an emotional tribute celebrating his enduring legacy and Elvis Week 2026, she shared a stunning set of personal photos that offer a rare glimpse into their everyday life together at Graceland and beyond.

Thompson shared a slideshow of twenty rare images on Instagram. She celebrate the King of Rock and Roll's legacy as fans descend upon his Memphis, Tennessee home, Graceland, for Elvis Week. She captioned the photos with the following series of statements.

"Each year in August, devoted fans from around the world convene in Memphis to celebrate and commemorate the life and legacy of the legend…the icon, Elvis Presley. I was incredibly blessed to be his love for 4 1/2 years, living with him at Graceland, and traveling with him on tour and leisurely for all those years," Thompson began.

"If you really want to know who spent the most time with Elvis during those last years of his life, all you have to do is look at the photo proof. All this before cell phones or social media," she continued.

"Most of the photographs are candids taken by fans or paparazzi, some in Las Vegas, all depicting the time and the love we shared. Way too many to post here," the songwriter and actress added.

"Some have tried to rewrite history, but the truth will always remain the truth. I’m looking forward to sharing some of these precious memories & truths with the most wonderful fans in the world who will be in Memphis August 8 through the 16th. I hope I get to say hi to you during that time. Sending love & gratitude always," Thompson concluded.

Fans responded to Thompson's post, echoing her importance to Presley throughout their relationship and beyond.

One fan responded, "Even though the main floor was changed, we still see Linda’s stained glass (Thompson helped design the P insignia over Graceland's front door and the music room peacocks). You can’t be erased, Queen!"

A second admirer penned, "So many people ‘claim’ to have known Elvis; very few did, and even some who did still didn’t share his life as close as you two did. Thank you for protecting him the way you do; he deserves that, and he is blessed to have a truly genuine person like you in his corner."

"True Elvis fans adore you, and I myself believe if you and him would have stayed together, he would have had a much longer life," wrote a third follower.

A fourth Instagram user concluded, "Beautiful couple. I always thought you would be a perfect wife for him."

Elvis Week 2026 will be held beginning August 8, 2026, and run through August 16. Graceland's official website reports that the multi-day gathering will feature musical tributes, discussion panels, and fan events centered around the late singer's career. The tribute culminates on the evening of August 15 with a solemn, long-standing Candlelight Vigil outside the estate gates. Thompson will be in attendance for the event.

Elvis Presley and Linda Thompson split in late 1976, months before his tragic passing in August 1977. Since that time, Thompson has always spoken of the music icon with profound tenderness, and sharing her personal photo collection serves as a comforting reminder of their relationship and private world away from the bright lights of the stage.

Why You Need a Protection Spell on Your Home This Halloween

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:19am

Halloween is known for haunted houses, carved pumpkins and flickering candlelight, but for many real-life witches, it's also one of the most spiritually significant times of the year. Known as Samhain in many witchcraft traditions, Halloween marks the beginning of the witches' new year—a season for protection, reflection and fresh starts.

“For witches, we regularly cast spells on our own homes and often, we are asked to cast spells over the homes of others—and there are quite a few different spells that can be cast over the home during Halloween, from protection to blessings to attracting harmony,” explains Lindsay Squire, an author and the witch behind @thewitchoftheforest, Lindsay Squire.

If you've ever wondered what kind spells a witch would recommend for your home during Halloween, here are three of the most meaningful.

Meet the Expert—Witch Lindsay Squire Real-life witch Lindsay Squire explains which spells you should consider for your home this Halloween season.

Lindsay Squire

1. A Protection Spell

“At this time of year, the most important kind of spell you can cast on your own home is a protection spell,” Lindsay says. “It's a good idea to create a protective energetic barrier around your home at this time of year. To do this, burn frankincense and rosemary incense sticks in the room you spend most of your time in,” she says.

According to Lindsay, the intention behind protection spells is to symbolically shield the home as Halloween's traditionally "thin veil" between the living and the dead approaches.

2. An Abundance Spell

Halloween isn't just about looking back—it's also considered the beginning of a new spiritual year, making it a meaningful time to focus on what's ahead. “As Halloween is known as the witches' new year, it's a good time for abundance spells to bring in good energy, luck and prosperity,” Lindsay explains.

Her recommended ritual is surprisingly simple: “To cast a simple abundance spell for your home,” she says, “burn out a yellow candle with the names of all those who live there carved into the wax.” In many magical traditions, yellow is associated with optimism, success and positive energy, making it a fitting color for welcoming prosperity into the home.

3. A Cleansing Spell

Just as many people deep-clean their homes before the holidays or the new year, witches often perform spiritual cleansings to symbolically clear away the energy of the previous year. “As witches begin their new year at Halloween, it's a good time to cleanse your home of any negative or heavy energy of the past year so you can make a fresh start,” Lindsay says.

“If you want to try a simple cleansing spell, burn rosemary on a hot charcoal disc or a rosemary incense stick and waft the smoke into every room of your home,” Lindsay advises. This ritual represents leaving behind anything that no longer serves the household while welcoming a fresh, positive beginning for the year ahead.

The Underrated Spanish City Outranking Barcelona for the 2026 Solar Eclipse

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:10am

Solar eclipse chasers and European wanderlust lovers, take note: one of the biggest natural spectacles of the decade is fast approaching, and the absolute best seat in the house isn't where most tourists are booking their tickets.

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will sweep across Europe, with Spain serving as the absolute prime viewing hub for millions of international travelers. While major gateways like Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid are expected to see massive crowds, new research reveals that a lesser-known Spanish gem actually takes the crown for the ultimate eclipse experience.

According to a new Solar Eclipse Index released by global travel booking platform Omio—which analyzed factors including eclipse totality duration, historical cloud cover, horizon visibility, and transport accessibility—the historic inland city of Zaragoza topped the nation's rankings with an impressive score of 88 out of 100.

View this post on Instagram

Beating out heavy hitters like Barcelona and Palma, Zaragoza stands out for its ideal combination of factors: low historical cloudiness, strong inland viewing conditions, and a generous 1 minute and 24 seconds of totality as the sun dips lower in the evening sky.

Beyond its prime skywatching conditions, Zaragoza offers everything travelers want in a classic Spanish city break. Visitors can spend the day "exploring the Basilica del Pilar, wandering through the historic old town or sampling traditional Aragonese cuisine before experiencing totality as the sun begins to lower in the evening sky."

Related: These Special Delta Flights Will Follow the Path of Totality

Best of all, getting there won't require renting a car or booking extra domestic flights. "Travellers arriving in Madrid can board a direct high-speed train and be in Zaragoza in just 95 minutes, making it possible to swap Spain’s capital for the country’s highest-ranked eclipse destination without hiring a car or catching another flight," with one-way fares starting from 23 euros.

For those planning a broader Spanish rail adventure, other top-rated viewing spots from the index include Palma, Mallorca for a "sea-facing sunset angle," and León, which recorded one of the longest periods of totality in the index at 1 minute and 44 seconds while benefiting from "favourable inland sunshine signals."

Whether you're an avid astronomy enthusiast or simply looking to build a once-in-a-lifetime skywatching event into your late-summer getaway, skipping the crowded coastlines for a quick train ride inland proves that "the best eclipse experience isn’t just about where you watch totality—it’s about choosing a destination that’s worth visiting before and after the skies go dark."

A Beloved 1995 Childhood Classic Was Just Immortalized in the Cutest Slippers at Five Below

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 7:05am

I've officially reached the point in life where I don't just experience seasons—I assign them a pop culture soundtrack. Summer isn't just summer; it's whatever movie montage or nostalgic playlist happens to be living rent-free in my brain. And fall? Fall has always belonged to the cozy classics that made the season feel magical year after year.

As soon as the air gets that tiny hint of crispness, my mind immediately goes to the Halloween specials and movies that turned pumpkins, falling leaves and spooky decorations into such a moment. Of course, there's It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, which is basically required viewing if you want to fully embrace autumn. But I also can't forget 1995's Casper, the sweet, slightly spooky movie that made a friendly ghost feel like the ultimate fall companion.

Casper Plush Slippers, $15 at Five Below

Five Below

Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but those movies had a way of making Halloween feel less about being scared and more about family nights, candy bowls and pure happiness. So naturally, when I spotted these adorable Casper slippers at Five Below, I couldn't help but feel like they were a tiny wearable piece of that childhood charm.

The slippers basically speak for themselves—identical happy Caspers with one for each foot. They're super plush and really cradle your tootsies, which is absolutely perfect for when the weather starts to get colder.

Funny enough, Casper didn't actually hit theaters in the fall of 1995, but rather in May. Still, it most often airs on TV during the Halloween season, therefore solidifying it as a Halloween movie for me. It starred a then-13-year-old Christina Ricci as Kat, who became chums with the friendly ghost. Three years later, in 1998, Hilary Duff would appear in the equally fun Casper Meets Wendy.

Five Below is fully embracing both Halloween and back-to-school seasons right now. It has "spooky" mini tumblers that rival larger Stanley 1913 drinkware, and almost everything you'll need to outfit a dorm. There's a luxe-feeling Mongolian faux fur rug and vintage-style cordless lamp that will add personality to any room (even one as cookie-cutter as a dorm). And don't forget about an antiqued mirror for all of those 'fit checks.

These bowls are a simple way to try the cottagecore trend without investing in anything too big or pricey. The sunny yellow petals would add warmth to any table or shelf, and because the bowls are both decorative and functional, you can use them during meals and leave them out as decor between uses.

One shopper called the bowls “cute and sunny” and said they use them to go with their sunflower theme during the summer. They gave the set five stars overall for both quality and style, plus four out of five stars for durability and value. The reviewer also said they would recommend them, which makes them an especially sweet pick for anyone decorating with floral pieces this season.

You could use the bowls for dips, sauces, nuts, candy, berries, or small desserts, then place them on an open shelf between meals. And since they’re microwave-safe, you could even warm a small serving directly inside, while the dishwasher-safe stoneware keeps cleanup easy afterward.

In 1983, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton Hit No. 1 With an Iconic Country Song Written by Disco Legends

Fri, 08/07/2026 - 6:56am

Pairing two of country music’s biggest superstars with the disco masterminds behind Saturday Night Fever sounded like an impossible gamble on paper.

Yet in 1983, that exact combination of talents produced pure magic when Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton released the song "Islands in the Stream." Written by the Bee Gees as an R&B soul track, the song defied all industry expectations by topping the country music and pop charts.

That year, Rogers was looking for a fresh sound after a series of successful recordings as a solo artist and collaborations with both Dottie West and Sheena Easton. He hired Bee Gees superstar Barry Gibb to produce his fifteenth studio album, Eyes That See in the Dark.

During the recording process, Gibb shared a song he had written with his brothers, Robin and Maurice Gibb. It was called "Islands in the Stream."

Parade Daily🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

The Atlantic reprinted an excerpt from Rogers' memoir, Luck or Something Like It, which revealed how the song came to be. “I had worked on ['Islands in the Stream'] with Barry for at least four days, something I was not used to doing. I finally told him I didn’t even like the song anymore,” Rogers explained. “Without breaking a stride, he raised one finger in the air and said, ‘What we need is Dolly Parton.’”

Forty-five minutes later, Parton appeared in the Los Angeles recording studio and began laying down the vocals for her half of the duet. The magic between her and Rogers was instant, and the song transformed into the familiar and beloved tune fans love today.

"Islands in the Stream," per American Songwriter, was originally envisioned by Gibb for soul singer Marvin Gaye. Additionally, Gibb also considered Diana Ross' voice for the track; he revealed on The One Show.

Fresh off dominating the late 1970s with the cultural juggernaut that was the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, the Bee Gees had firmly established themselves as pop royalty. As the decade turned, the brothers pivoted behind the scenes, channeling their songwriting gold touch into giant hits for other music icons.

That was true for "Islands in the Stream." The song topped Billboard's Country Music charts and the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1983, where it remained on each list for two weeks.

The chemistry between Parton and Rogers was so believable that rumors that they were in a romantic relationship continued for decades. In reality, they were just great friends whose voices blended seamlessly.

“Dolly and I have been accused of having an affair for the last 30 years,” Rogers told CBS This Morning. “And we never did. What we’ve done is we’ve flirted with each other for 30 years. I do it in front of my wife because I know it’s harmless.”

What started as a frustrating day in the recording studio for Kenny Rogers turned into one of the most celebrated moments in country music history. Barry Gibb's idea to have Dolly Parton rescue a stalled recording session created an unforgettable duet that still hits all the right notes, 43 years later.
