Jamie Lynn Spears is looking back on the terrifying day she thought she had lost her daughter Maddie in an ATV accident, and the "miracle" that she survived.

The Sweet Magnoliasactress, 35, reflected on the near-fatal accident her now-18-year-old daughter suffered in 2017 during an interview with PEOPLE published on Wednesday, June 17, revealing that a priest was even called to administer Maddie's last rites before she made an incredible recovery.

"That was the day I thought I'd lost my daughter," said Spears, who noted that "against all odds," her daughter "fought" to be here today.

It seemed like a normal day on the Louisiana property of Spears and her husband, Jamie Watson, when 8-year-old Maddie took a turn on her ATV and ended up underwater in a pond.

"We were watching her, and we still don't quite know if she was dodging a dog or what it was," Spears recalled. "She went in the water and me, my father-in-law and my husband [Watson] ran as fast as we could to go jump in to get her out, but she was stuck under the ATV."

Paramedics were called to free Maddie from under the ATV, but when they managed to pull her out of the water, Spears said it was "really not a sight anybody wants to see."

"At that point, she was not breathing," she recalled. "We thought that she had passed."

Maddie was airlifted to a hospital, where she remained in a coma for two days until a priest was called to her bedside to administer her last rites.

“He comes in, and she physically sits up in all her restraints and tubes,” the Zoey 101 alum shared. “I'm screaming for the doctors, like ‘Come in here now!' Even the priest was like, 'I've never seen anything like what's happening.' I knew she was in there and felt all of us praying. We were given a miracle, and I don't take it for granted."

Almost a decade later, Maddie told the outlet that she didn't remember the accident, but that her family's faith got "a lot stronger" through her recovery. "In the end, I think such a negative experience affected us positively," she said.

While publisher The Folio Society tried to hype people up for the Game of Thrones deluxe edition, the wait for The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin just passed a devastating and frustrating milestone.

June 16, 2026, marked 5,543 days since the fifth novel, A Dance with Dragons, was published. That wait is already bad enough, especially with hints here and there throughout that time that the sixth book would be published. Those hints have long since stopped, with Martin not even having an update on the progress.

However, that time is far more frustrating than it initially seems. It’s also the exact same amount of time between the publication of Game of Thrones in 1996 and A Dance with Dragons in 2011. Fans were quick to take to Reddit to share their annoyance as they realized that they got five books within that time frame, as well as the first season of the TV series.

Since then, Game of Thrones fans have sat through seven more seasons of the TV series, two seasons of House of the Dragon, and a season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The third season of House of the Dragon is set to premiere on June 21, 2026, and it’s clear that The Winds of Winter isn’t coming out during that time.

To make matters worse for fans, The Folio Society hyped up the release of the new deluxe edition of Game of Thrones, which will be released on July 14, 2026. As stunning as it is, it’s no consolation for the next part of the story.

The publisher did hint at something else coming soon. While fans hope that it’s some sort of update about The Winds of Winter, many others note that they’re probably delusional to even think about the sixth installment. So far, The Folio Society hasn’t announced what this Seven Kingdoms news is, and there are some predicting that it will be some sort of 30th anniversary deluxe edition, since the first novel was released on August 1, 1996. Instead, the focus has moved onto Moby Dick, which also has special editions being released.

Martin has previously looked back on the time that it took him to write some of his novels. The third book, A Storm of Swords, took just a year to write, despite being 1,000 pages, and Martin admits that he doesn’t really know how he managed it now.

He has also admitted that he doesn’t always feel in the mood to write Winds, especially with so many other projects that he’s working on. However, he knows that the sixth installment has to be the priority, saying in a 2026 interview, “I do think if I can just get some of these other things off my back, I could finish The Winds of Winter pretty soon. It’s been made clear to me that Winds is the priority, but … I don’t know. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for that.”

It’s not a hopeful update considering the recent milestone.

In a new photo posted to her Instagram page, the star smiled alongside her redheaded daughter as she celebrated her graduation from Northwestern University.

"Look at this Wildcat and her wonderful friends! Happy Graduation my Love. You. Are. Amazing. 💜," Hunt captioned the photo set, which also showed Makena on the big screen alongside her friends in caps and gowns. Makena's dad is Hunt's former partner, Matthew Carnahan.

Fans of classic rock and harmony-driven folk music have a new reason to listen closely.

Girl Named Tom, the sibling trio that made history as the first group to win The Voice, has released a live acoustic version of Kansas' enduring classic "Dust in the Wind," offering listeners a stripped-down take on one of rock's most beloved songs. The release serves as the first preview of Dust to Dust (Live Acoustic Versions), which arrives June 25.

The new recording revisits a song that already holds special significance for the Ohio siblings. Back in 2021, Bekah, Joshua and Caleb Liechty performed "Dust in the Wind" during "Dedication Week" on The Voice, delivering the song in honor of their grandmother Jean, who was living with dementia.

Their performance became one of the season's standout moments.

"This was magical," coach John Legend said after the performance, calling the trio's lead vocal "haunting" and praising their intricate harmonies. Coach Kelly Clarkson agreed, saying the group brought a darker, more emotional quality to the song and predicting they could go on to win the competition.

She was right.

Just weeks later, Girl Named Tom became the first trio ever to win the American version of The Voice, giving Clarkson her fourth coaching victory.

Why 'Dust in the Wind' Still Resonates Nearly 50 Years Later

Originally released by Kansas in 1977 on the album Point of Know Return, "Dust in the Wind" remains one of the most recognizable songs in classic rock history.

Written by Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren, the song began as a fingerpicking exercise before evolving into a meditation on mortality, time and the fleeting nature of life.

The track reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978, becoming Kansas' highest-charting single and eventually earning triple-platinum certification in the United States. Even today, it remains a staple of classic rock radio and one of the band's signature songs.

The song also marked a departure from Kansas' progressive-rock sound. While the band was known for ambitious epics and arena-rock favorites like "Carry On Wayward Son," "Dust in the Wind" succeeded with little more than acoustic guitars, violin and a deeply reflective lyric.

New Album Arrives June 25

According to Girl Named Tom, the upcoming collection of acoustic recordings helped bring the trio "back to the heart of each song."

The project follows the group's April 2026 album Dust to Dust and offers fans a more intimate look at the material through live acoustic performances.

The trio has built a devoted audience through its harmony-rich blend of folk, Americana and acoustic pop. Formed in 2019, the siblings first gained national attention with their four-chair-turn audition on The Voice before going on to win season 21.

Fans will have plenty of opportunities to hear the group perform live this year.

On its website, the band promises audiences an "unforgettable evening" featuring new songs, stories and fan favorites, while noting one compliment they hear often: "You sound even better live than you did on TV."

As the world mourns the loss of former child star Daveigh Chase, one of her family members is remembering the actress with a heartfelt message.

Chase's uncle shared an emotional tribute on Instagram following news of her death, reflecting on the many beloved characters she brought to life throughout her career.

"Some of you may know her as Lilo Pelekai, Samara Morgan, Rhonda Volmer or simply, Chihiro," he wrote alongside a photo of the actress.

The message referenced several of Chase's most recognizable roles, including Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, Samara Morgan in The Ring, Rhonda Volmer in HBO's Big Love and Chihiro in the English-language version of Spirited Away.

He went on to praise his niece's talent and share a heartfelt farewell.

"Daveigh, my ultra talented niece passed away last night," he wrote. "May the Heavenly Father take her in his arms and shower her with love and peace for eternity."

The tribute quickly drew responses from fans who grew up watching Chase's work, with many sharing memories of the characters that helped make her a familiar face to a generation of viewers.

"I'm really sorry for your loss she seemed like a wonderful person and definitely taught everyone the meaning of the word ohana," one person commented on the uncle's post.

"May her memory be a blessing," another added.

For many, Chase will always be remembered as the voice behind Lilo, the spirited young girl at the heart of Disney's beloved Lilo & Stitch franchise. Others recall her chilling performance as Samara in The Ring or her voice work in acclaimed animated films and television projects throughout the early 2000s.

News of Chase's death has prompted an outpouring of tributes across social media, with fans revisiting her performances and reflecting on the impact she had on their childhoods.

According to a GoFundMe campaign created by her boyfriend shortly before her death, Chase had recently been diagnosed with meningitis and multiple blood infections. The fundraiser stated that doctors informed the couple that treatment was no longer working and that she was nearing the end of her life.

Chase died on June 16 from complications related to meningitis and a blood infection. She was 35 years old.

Many people entering the retirement phase of life were able to purchase their homes before prices crossed the six-figure mark. Today, however, the median home is worth $370,320, and the median price hit $403,200 in the first quarter of 2026. Where Home Prices Are Headed

According to Zillow’s Home Value Index, prices on homes are already up 0.7% in a year. The median home value has risen drastically, but varies widely by state, according to a report by The Motley Fool. In West Virginia, the cheapest state, you can still pick up a home for under $200,000, while homes in the most expensive state, Hawaii, go for a median price of over $800,000.

Home values aren’t slowing down any time soon. The National Association of Realtors expects average prices to keep climbing as mortgage rates hover around 6%. A RenoFi study projects that the average home could reach $382,000 by 2030, and, based on roughly 3% annual growth, a home worth around $370,000 today could be worth somewhere between $600,000 and $700,000 by 2050. That’s just in time for Millennials to retire.

The Bigger Conversation

According to the National Association of Realtors' analysis of Federal Reserve data, homeowners have more than 40x the wealth of renters. The gap will only keep growing unless there is a change in housing supply. 

The Urban Institute shows that renters' housing-cost-to-income ratio has increased by about 5 percentage points over the past 30 years, while homeowners' ratio has decreased, widening the wealth gap.

Because of this wealth disparity and the increasingly difficult ability of renters to move towards homeownership, it’s worth considering how to help your children. Current retirees who bought into the housing market decades ago benefited from the head start that no longer exists. 

Practical Ways Retirees Can Help

Consider gifting the down payment. FHA down payments for first-time home buyers can be as little as 3.5%, and the gift tax as of 2026 is $19,000 for a single person and $38,000 for a married couple. Gifts at this amount, combined with the low percentage, can add up to an actual down payment in a few years. An added bonus: you don’t have to have perfect credit to apply for an FHA mortgage.

If you don’t have ready cash but do have equity in your home, you could consider downsizing to cash in on it. If you’d planned to downsize anyway, there may be enough to share with your adult children.

And if neither of those options is viable for you, helping your adult children with financial guidance is beneficial without requiring extra cash. Considering many people were never taught about budgeting, investing, and other ways to make money work for them, this could set them up for more than just a home in the long run.

A Narrowing Margin

The ability to build generational wealth through homeownership has always been part of the American landscape, but it is becoming significantly less accessible to younger generations. If you own your home now and have for a while, you got into real estate at a time when there were very few barriers to entry. 

The window hasn’t closed yet for younger adults to get on the ladder, but it is closing. By helping your children now, you’ll be setting them up for a more stable financial future. It’s a gift that will outlast you for a long time.

Savannah Chrisley has no problem with the age gap in her relationship—even if it took a little bit of convincing for dad Todd Chrisley to get on board!

The Chrisley Knows Best star, 28, opened up about dating her older boyfriend during the Tuesday, June 16, episode of Jana Kramer's Whine Down podcast, revealing that she's been dating her mystery man for a year now after meeting him "through the political world of D.C."

Savannah has yet to publicly identify her boyfriend, only saying that he was a "financial guy" who was "the calmest, sweetest human being in the entire world."

Despite the Growing Up Chrisley alum's insistence that her new guy could be "the one," she admitted that her dad was initially "not too fond" of the age gap between his daughter and her new beau.

Asked by Kramer if Savannah and her boyfriend have hit an 18-year age difference, the former pageant queen only answered that they were "up there," but that he was younger than her 57-year-old father.

"I love it because you’re not dealing with the insecurity of a younger guy who’s trying to keep up," Savannah said of dating an older man, calling her boyfriend her "biggest cheerleader" and praising him for not being "intimidated" by her success.

"I feel like so many women in today’s day and age are the primary breadwinners for their family, and they feel like they have to dim their light in order to make their partner feel better, and I’m like, 'No,'" she added. "First off, he does way better than I do, and I love that because I’m like, 'I don’t have to. You’re not intimidated by me. You think what I do is great. You don’t try to stifle me.' He’s built his businesses, so now he’s kind of loving life and now he’s like, 'You go do your thing.'"

Savannah also noted that she's in the "healthiest" relationship of her life, and that despite her dad's early concerns, the Chrisley family patriarch now "loves him."

Following the death of former child star Daveigh Chase, fans are looking back at the actress's final Instagram post.

The snapshot from nearly eight years ago that now serves as the last message left on her social media account.

Chase, best known for voicing Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch franchise and portraying Samara in The Ring, died on June 16 at age 35 after complications from meningitis and a blood infection.

As tributes continue to pour in, many fans have found themselves revisiting her Instagram page, where her final post dates back to November 2017. The image is of the actress posing next to a sign holding a mylar unicorn balloon.

"Unicorns DO exist," the caption reads.

At the time, there was nothing to suggest it would become her final public Instagram update.

In the wake of her death, her final post has become a gathering place for fans reflecting on those memories and the impact she had on their childhoods.

For many fans, Chase will always be remembered as the voice behind Lilo, the spirited young girl at the center of Disney's beloved Lilo & Stitch franchise. Others knew her from her chilling performance as Samara in The Ring or her voice work in the English-language version of Spirited Away.

"Rest in peace, my sweet niece," a relative wrote in the comments.

"Rest in paradise, beautiful," another commented. "Thank you for the beautiful memories I had growing up watching you..."

"You touched a lot of hearts on the brief time you were here, from loved ones to people you never knew," another chimed in.

In the years that followed, Chase largely stepped away from social media, leaving the post frozen in time as a reminder of a career that touched millions of viewers.

Tom Dreesen, a legendary stand-up comedian who made appearances on numerous late-night shows and opened for iconic musicians, has died at the age of 86, PEOPLE reports.

The news was shared by Dreesen's family in a statement to the outlet.

"For more than five decades, Tom Dreesen brought laughter, heart, and humanity to audiences across America. A proud native of Harvey, Illinois, Tom built a remarkable career through perseverance, talent,” they wrote.

“Beyond the stage, Tom was a devoted father, brother, grandfather, friend, mentor, storyteller, and motivator,” the statement added. “He gave generously of his time, supported countless charitable causes, and inspired others through his motivational speaking, his writing, and his personal example.”

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Dreesen went to work as an insurance salesman, where he met Tim Reid, and they formed a comedy team. From there, his career took off, with Dreesen making over 500 appearances on national television, including appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Late Show with David Letterman, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, while also filling in as a guest host on The Late Show. Dreesen also served as the opening act for famous musicians on tour, including Smokey Robinson, Tony Orlando, Gladys Knight, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr. 

As for his career on television, he appeared in shows including Murder, She Wrote, Columbo, Touched by an Angel, as well as having a role in Mel Brooks' 1987 film Spaceballs. 

“Tom Dreesen's legacy will live on through the laughter he created, the barriers he helped break, the entertainers he inspired, and the countless lives he touched," the statement concluded, with the family asking for privacy at this time and thanking fans for their "heartfelt condolences."

Actor Gary Sinise shared a heartfelt tribute to the actor following the news.

"This morning America lost one of our great comedians and patriots, and I lost a dear friend," Sinise wrote on X, adding that Dreesen was "hilarious, always could make us laugh, and such a good friend.

"I will miss him terribly. What a great long career he had in show business," he concluded. "Thank you, Tom. God Bless you my friend. Rest in Peace brother."

Joy Beharhad more to say about JD Vance after his tense appearance on The View, but one off-air comment may not be what viewers expected.

During an episode of the show's companion podcast, Behind the Table, Behar confirmed that she told Vance during a commercial break that he should run for president.

The comment came after Vance appeared on The View on Tuesday, June 16, while promoting his book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.

Joy Behar Confirmed the Off-Air Moment

Producer Brian Teta brought up the commercial-break exchange while speaking with Behar on Behind the Table.

Teta noted that Behar told Vance "that he should run for president because he has a good vibe," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Behar confirmed the comment, but quickly clarified what she meant.

"I think [he should]... for a Republican, I do," Behar said.

She also made it clear that the remark was not an endorsement. Behar said she was "not voting for him anyway" and explained that her own political views remain with Democrats.

Behar also said she did not think Vance was a "bad guy," despite her disagreements with him and the Trump administration.

Her reaction appeared to be shaped partly by Vance's memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which she said had an impact on how she viewed his background and personal story.

"I think if he were president, he'd go back to being a kinder person," Behar said, while also criticizing President Donald Trump.

Behar added that she expected Vance not to have a sense of humor, but said he did.

The Interview Was Still Tense

Vance's on-air appearance was not exactly friendly.

The vice president faced questions about immigration, the Epstein files, his faith and past comments, including his "childless cat ladies" remark.

Behar also took issue with part of his answer about previously calling Trump "America's Hitler," saying that was where she "draw[s] the line."

Producer Brian Teta said Vance smiled and joked with the co-hosts at points, but also "deflected plenty" during the interview.

Whoopi Goldberg Had to Step In

The interview also included a tense moment between Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro.

As Navarro continued pressing Vance while Goldberg was trying to throw to a commercial break, Goldberg shouted, "Ana, God, please!"

She then told Navarro, "Don't do that!" before the show cut to an ad break.

That moment became one of the most talked-about parts of the interview, along with Behar's later comments about what happened off-camera.

Below, experts guide you through a 15-minute Pilates flow you can easily add to your routine. According to Marsh, it emphasizes breath, strength and mobility in all planes of movement, delivering a safe and strong foundation to develop your Pilates practice.

1. Breathwork (1 minute)

“Breath is the foundation of Pilates,” says Ban. Proper breathing preps the body for controlled movement, helps soothe the nervous system and connects the core.

1. Begin lying flat on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the mat.
2. Take a deep inhale through your nose.
3. Take a controlled exhale through the mouth.
4. Continue your breath work for 1 minute.

2. Core connection/imprint work (1 minute)

Core connection and imprint work teaches beginners how to blend proper breathing with core engagement before adding any movement to their flow.

3. Roll-Ups (12 reps)

4. Reach your arms forward as you gradually roll your spine off the floor.

1. Lie flat on your back with your knees bent in a tabletop position.
2. Curl your shoulders, neck and head off the mat.
3. Place one hand on the shin of your bent leg and the other close to that ankle.
4. Extend the other leg to a 45-degree angle.
5. Hold for a moment before switching sides.
6. Complete 12 to 15 reps on each side.

Double-Leg Stretch (12 to 15 reps)

1. Lie flat on your back, hugging your knees toward your chest.
2. Lift your shoulders, neck and head off the mat.
3. Lightly place your hands on your ankles or shins.
4. Activate your core as you reach your arms overhead and lengthen your legs out to a 45-degree angle.
5. Hold for a moment, reaching long through your arms and legs.
6. Circle your arms around and hug your knees toward your chest once again.
7. Perform 12 to 15 reps.

Single Straight-Leg Stretch (12 to 15 reps per side)

1. Lie flat on your back with both legs extended toward the sky.

3. Press your lower back into the mat and brace your core.

3. Press through your heels to lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
4. Squeeze your glutes, holding at the top for a moment.
5. Use control to lower.
6. Perform 12 to 15 reps.

8. Side-Lying Kickbacks (12 to 15 reps per side)

Sideline kicks fire up the glute medius and glute max, both of which are essential for lower-body strength and hip stability.

1. Begin by lying on one side of your body with your legs extended and stacked.
2. Use your bottom arm to support your head.
3. Place your top hand on the mat in front of you.
4. Make sure your ribs stay stacked and your core engaged.
5. Lift your top leg to hip level.
6. Keeping it straight, sweep it slightly back behind your body.
7. Squeeze your glute at the back of the motion.
8. Return to the start position.
9. Perform 12 to 15 reps on each side.

How To Activate Your Deep Core During Pilates

One of the most challenging aspects of Pilates that many practitioners face is not knowing whether they’re properly engaging their deep core during each exercise. It’s essential to sync up your breathing with core activation in order to achieve real results. Don’t stress, because Marsh offers some useful feedback.

“Your body naturally balances out where you need to engage. If you listen to your teacher's instructions, breathe well throughout, your core muscles will engage as nature intended and support your movement. Avoid trying to brace too hard or holding your breath and enjoy your movement practice,” Marsh says.

When all is said and done, Pilates is an incredible training modality for beginners. It’s a stellar way to improve mind-body awareness while building foundational strength in your core, helping you tackle everyday activities with ease.

Vanessa Trump has a lot on her plate right now. While viewers might expect a “one-on-one” to mean a literal one-on-one match, this video isn’t exactly what you’d expect. It’s more of a one-on-one convo. So don’t worry, 56-year-old White did not get into an actual cage match with teenage Kai Trump. 

Dressed in a sporty red, white, and blue outfit, Kai kicks things off with an intro, saying, “All right, this is one-on-one with the one and only Dana White at the White House.” The recent high school grad nabs a Strawberry Refresher and takes a few photos with fans at Starbucks before bringing her viewers with her on a trip to Sephora. And no, this has absolutely nothing to do with Dana White. 

Instead, she picks up one of the coveted Touchland hand sanitizer sprays, sharing, “We need one of those. I can’t with people touching my hands right now. I’m like a germ freak if you guys don’t know.” 

And then it’s off to Wawa to get a protein bar before heading back to the White House. After a brief tour of the grounds, Kai meets White at a local gym.

One upper body workout later, Kai changes, does her hair, and gets ready for the rest of her day, walking out to “the Claw.” As she makes her way towards the superstructure on the White House lawn, AuntIvanka Trump and Uncle Jared Kushner pass by, telling Kai to have fun.

Kai reveals (of the Octagon), “One of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed. This is literally history ever. I don’t know if this will ever happen again. But it’s so cool to be here, see it live in action.” She then treats viewers to an up-close view of the rest of the day’s festivities, including the ceremonial weigh-in and a massive fireworks display.

The reality star talked about his life before and after the ABC show on the We Need to Talk podcast. He said he wished he had talked more about his sexuality on the show to make coming out later easier. But he thought he was offered the starring role for a bigger purpose.

"Why else would an opportunity like that fall into my lap?" Underwood said. "If not put there to sort of help me and like what I was telling myself is like, this is going to force me. I'm going to be so publicly straight that I will never be able to be gay again."

Underwood said he planned not to tell the producers about his virginity, but it came out on the first night. It took over his storyline, and the reason given for his virginity was his faith, but it largely had to do with his sexuality.

"I think there was always, like in the back of my mind, a little guilt of, like, why would I do that? Why would I go down that path with a woman if I know in my heart that I'm gay?" he explained. However, he considered that getting intimate with a woman could somehow make him straight.

Underwood said he kept trying to convince himself that he could change his sexuality. That included him getting engaged to a woman. He also said he hooked up with married "straight" men before the show for protection. They had something to lose and were less likely to out him.

The former football player is now married to a political strategist named Jordan C. Brown-Underwood. They had a baby boy named Bishop via surrogate in 2024.

Mary Shelley’s masterpiece, Frankenstein, is considered the world’s first true science fiction novel, but it wasn’t born out of a desire to write the story.

Instead, it happened due to a volcanic eruption on Mount Tambora, which is now in modern-day Indonesia. The eruption, which is still considered the most powerful volcanic event around the world, led to a global climate crisis.

Frankenstein was originally published as The Modern Prometheus under an anonymous name, and Shelley’s eventual husband, Percy Shelley, was originally believed to be the author. Eventually, his wife was accredited, and it’s been the source of many a story since. The name of the novel is actually that of the scientist — not the monster — with the monster simply known as “Frankenstein’s Monster.”

Yet, writing the novel wasn’t something that was planned for years. It all bore from the volcanic eruption on Mount Tambora, which led to so much sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere that it created a climate crisis. Many now know the next summer as “The Year Without Summer,” as crops failed, and Shelley was trapped indoors with her husband and some friends due to the gloomy rain.

To make the most of it, they decided to set each other a challenge: to write a ghost story.

Shelley didn’t quite opt for a ghost story. Instead, she wanted to tell the story of a scientist who created life only to be horrified by what he’d done. Deciding that she had a work of art, she published it in 1818 anonymously. The first time her name was attached was in 1831.

Since its publication, Frankenstein has been used as inspiration for a number of pieces of art. It’s also been adapted into TV shows and movies, and there have been other tales to tell the story of a younger Victor Frankenstein and the creature. The most recent of those movies is the Netflix release from 2025 starring Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi as The Creature and Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, and it is Certified Fresh with an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

As a side note, it wouldn't be the only classic masterpiece created that weekend. John Polidori wrote The Vampyre, which would become the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Love them or hate them, homeowners' associations (HOAs) are here to stay in the U.S., and while there are plenty of retirees who are pro-HOA and love the way that these associations take care of things like plowing snow and making sure your neighbor doesn't let their lawn get overgrown, many people still balk at the cost of belonging to these groups.

Now, a new report from Realtor.com says a controversial law may open the door to higher HOA costs, pushing homeownership costs to unaffordable levels for seniors and retirees on fixed incomes.

HOA Fees Were Already on the Rise—Now They Could Go Higher

While the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) is still being litigated in court, the controversial legislation could have serious effects on homeowners living in HOAs if it is determined to apply to these organizations. According to The Wall Street Journal, HOA fees were already on the rise before the CTA announcement.

In 2025, the median condo fee was $420, up 29 percent from 2019, the publication wrote, and HOA fees for single-family owners rose by 26 percent to $63 per month. But, when it comes to just how much they could go up, the answer remains unclear

The Law is Designed to Protect Against Fraud, but It's Raising Costs

The CTA was enacted in 2021, the type of financial fraud that plagues certain types of businesses, though HOAs argue they were never the intended target of the law. The CTA requires millions of financial entities and businesses to keep detailed records about their officers, beneficial owners, and more, which is then overseen by the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

The CTA was designed to curb the billions of dollars that the U.S. government says it loses each year to financial crimes. However, organizations like HOAs say that the cost of complying with the law is driving up costs, which are then passed on to homeowners, since many HOAs are non-profit entities. However, the legal system is still debating whether this ruling should apply to American HOAs, and a final decision is expected sometime in 2026.

The Biggest Problem for HOAs? They Run on Volunteers

The CTA would be especially hard for HOAs, which operate with volunteer boards. "It's not a typical filing requirement a corporation would have where they file their owners, and that's it," Dawn Bauman, the CEO of the Community Associations Institute, told Realtor.com. "Community associations have new board members every year at least, and often more often."

According to the Corporate Transparency Act and Homeowners Associations Fact Sheet, board members who violate the filing requirement could be subject to civil penalties of $500 per day (which will be adjusted for inflation, and currently stands at $591 per day), criminal penalties of up to two years in prison, and an additional fine of up to $10,000, if the courts decide to include HOAs.

HOAs are Still Valuable to Retirees

• If they are planning to leave a home to a loved one, they don't have to worry about the property's value decreasing, since strict community standards ensure neighbors keep up their homes.

• What is the HOA's yearly fee increase limit?
