Trump Has a Proposal to Help Retirees—Here's How Real Financial Pros Actually Feel About It

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:56pm

During the president's State of the Union address, he shared a series of new ideas for America. One idea in particular that stood out was a proposal for a government-backed retirement plan available to Americans without employer-sponsored plans, such as gig workers and freelancers. The plan would include a 50 percent government match, up to $1,000.

And while the proposal echoes previous "concepts of a plan" for the president, the idea that there could be a path for all Americans earning less than the national median income to access a government-backed retirement plan seems like a no-brainer. I reached out to a few financial pros to see what they thought about the possibility of something like this coming to fruition. Here's what they had to say.

The After-Tax Savings Account Could Help More People Save for Retirement

As many as 78 percent of businesses that have fewer than 10 employees don't offer employer-based retirement plans, according to Sara Wright, CFP® Professional with Domain Money, who notes that part-time employees and contractors are also out of the loop here.

"In total, that’s almost half of all private-sector employees, according to the AARP," she says, noting that incentivizing saving for retirement with the saver's match could be powerful enough to get more Americans to save for retirement.

It Doesn't Offer as Robust an Impact as Traditional Savings Plans

While it may be enough to jump-start retirement savings for some, Noah Lewis, Financial Analyst at Scholar Financial Advising, says the plan may not be as powerful as some more traditional options...whether you have an employer match or not.

“I think in theory it’s a good idea," Lewis says. "The main benefit compared to something like a Roth IRA is the government match. But it kind of stays more positive in theory, because the match is only $1,000, and that’s only if someone is actually contributing to the account."

He says this will really only work if people opt to use it, and even then, "it’s not going to be a massive game changer."

The Proposed Plan Comes With Some Risk

Another thing Lewis thinks the plan has going against it is the potential for long-term risk. "We’re already dealing with the Social Security trust shortfall, and we’re already running deficits while trying to fund that," he says. "So I don’t really see the logic of adding something new on top of that without fixing Social Security first."

In short, he doesn't think that this is a real solution.

Lower-Income Americans Will Still Miss Out

Trump's plan was to reach those lower-income Americans who will struggle to retire once they are eligible. However, George Dimov, CPA, Founder, and CEO of Dimov Tax, says that this plan still leaves most of these folks out in the cold.

"The big problem I see is that you have to put money into the account before you can get the match," he says. "For a family that is already struggling to make ends meet and is $80 short every month, getting a 50 percent match, on no money, is still no money. This is the part that people who make policies keep ignoring."

Whether you think this proposal sounds great or if you feel like it needs more work, one thing appears to be certain: Americans are looking for better ways to save for retirement. And while suggestions like Trump's could be a good start, it still doesn't seem likely to go far enough to help the people who need it most.

A Rare Natural Phenomenon Is Returning to This Beloved Tennessee National Park— Here's How to Experience It for Yourself

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:50pm

Every year, for just a few nights, something extraordinary happens deep in the forests of the Smokies. As darkness settles over the trees, thousands of tiny lights begin to pulse in unison, like a living constellation flickering across the forest floor. And now, travelers have something to plan for: the official dates for this magical event are here.

The National Park Service has announced that the 2026 synchronous firefly viewing event will take place from May 20 through May 27 in the Elkmont area of the park in Tennessee.

What Makes This Event So Special?

This isn’t your average summer firefly sighting. The species responsible, Photinus carolinus, is one of the very few in North America capable of synchronizing its flashes.

Instead of random flickers, thousands of fireflies blink together in waves, creating a rhythmic light show that feels almost choreographed. It’s a mating ritual, but to visitors, it looks like nature’s perfectly timed light display.

The phenomenon occurs only for a short window each year, typically late May or early June, and its timing depends heavily on temperature and environmental conditions. That unpredictability and its rarity are part of what make it such a bucket-list experience.

@revealedtravelguides

Rise and shine everyone! 💡 The 2026 Synchronous Firefly Viewing Event happening soon at Great Smoky Mountain National Park! 📅 Peak viewing typically happens late May into early June (exact dates announced soon) 🎟 Access is VERY limited and requires a lottery system to attend 📍 Viewing takes place in the Elkmont area of the park Learn more info here: https://www.revealedtravelguides.com/great-smoky/the-great-smoky-mountains-synchronous-fireflies/ #greatsmokymountains #nationalpark #nps #fireflies #findyourpark #Fireflies

If you’re imagining pulling up to a trailhead and catching the show, think again.

Due to overwhelming demand and the need to protect the fireflies during their mating season, access to Elkmont is strictly limited. The park issues just 120 vehicle reservations per night (960 total) through a lottery system.

How to Enter the Lottery

If you want a chance to see the spectacle, timing matters almost as much as luck.

Here’s how it works:

  • The lottery opens April 24 at 10 a.m. EDT and closes April 27 at 11:59 p.m. EDT
  • You must apply through Recreation.gov
  • There’s a $1 application fee
  • You can select two preferred dates
  • Winners are notified by May 6

If selected, you’ll be automatically charged a $29 reservation fee that covers parking and event logistics. Each reservation allows one vehicle with up to seven passengers.

A key tip: applying early doesn’t increase your chances. The system is randomized, so every entry has an equal shot.

@chasingbugs

Seeing the synchronous and blue ghost fireflies at Elkmont is a spiritual experience. #fireflies #synchronousfireflies #smokies #greatsmokeymountains

♬ M83 x Star Wars Theme MIX - Hannah What Happens If You Don’t Win?

Here’s the reality: most people won’t get a ticket. But that doesn’t mean your trip is over. There are still ways to experience the magic of fireflies in and around the Smokies:

  • Visit just before or after peak dates: Fireflies don’t disappear overnight. You can often catch smaller displays in the days leading up to or following the official event window, especially near Elkmont or surrounding areas.
  • Explore other areas like Cades Cove: While not synchronized, fireflies are still abundant throughout the park during late spring and summer.
  • Look for guided or private viewing experiences: Some nearby places offer guided firefly walks or small-group experiences on private land, offering a quieter, more intimate alternative.
  • Camp in Elkmont Campground: Campers with reservations may have limited access during the event period, offering another potential way in if you plan far enough ahead.

In a world of crowded viewpoints and overhyped attractions, the synchronous fireflies of the Smokies remain something rare: a natural event that still feels untouched, fleeting, and genuinely magical.

65 Years Ago, This Recorded Carnegie Hall Concert Led to the First Album of the Year by a Female Artist

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:49pm

On April 23 1961, Judy Garland stepped onto the stage at Carnegie Hall and delivered what many still consider one of the greatest live performances in music history. The concert was also recorded for a live album, which ultimately went down in history.

At the time, Garland was already an icon, beloved for her role in The Wizard of Ozand her unmistakable voice. But her career had been marked by personal and professional turbulence. This concert ultimately became her triumphant comeback.

Backed by a full orchestra and fueled by raw emotion, Garland captivated the audience with a setlist that blended classic standards, Broadway favorites, and deeply personal interpretations. She performed fan favorites like "Over the Rainbow" and "The Man That Got Away." Her ability to balance vulnerability with control created an electric atmosphere inside the hall, culminating in multiple standing ovations.

The resulting album from the recorded evening, Judy at Carnegie Hall, captured not only Garland's vocal brilliance but also the palpable connection between the artist and her audience. When it was released later that year, it became an instant success, spending weeks at the top of the charts. More significantly, at the Grammy Awards, the album earned Garland a historic distinction: it won Album of the Year, making her the first female artist ever to receive that honor.

This achievement was groundbreaking in an industry that, at the time, rarely recognized women at the highest level. Garland's win didn't just validate her talent; it helped pave the way for future female artists to be acknowledged as dominant creative forces. Her triumph resonated beyond music, symbolizing resilience and the power of reinvention.

Judy at Carnegie Hall showcases Garland at her most dynamic, with a setlist that blends Broadway, pop standards, and signature songs. Among the most celebrated performances are "When You're Smiling," "Almost Like Being in Love," and "This Can't Be Love," which highlight her vocal agility. She also delivers emotionally rich renditions of "Do It Again" and "Chicago," each infused with her trademark intensity.

Other standout tracks include "San Francisco," "Swanee," and a powerful medley of "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody."

Beyond winning Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards, the album earned multiple additional honors. It took home Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Engineering Contribution (Classical). Garland also received Best Soloist Performance (with Orchestra). Altogether, Judy at Carnegie Hall won five Grammys, cementing its legacy as one of the most awarded—and revered—live albums ever recorded.

Over six decades later, Garland's Carnegie Hall concert remains a cultural touchstone. Critics and musicians alike continue to cite it as a masterclass in live performance and proof that technical perfection alone isn't necessarily enough.

Something 'Strange' Is Happening to McDonald’s Happy Meals

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:41pm

Netflix and McDonald’s are collaborating to bring Stranger Thingsfans a brand-new Happy Meal in honor of the newly released animated spinoff show Stranger Things: Tales From '85.

Although Stranger Things concluded with Season 5, the larger universe has left stories to be explored, including in the Tales from '85 series, set between the second and third seasons of the original show. In this new story, the main kids (and some brand-new faces) are fighting back against new, terrifying monsters that are infiltrating Hawkins—something that is especially surprising considering Eleven seemingly closed the gate to the Upside Down in Season 2.

Faced with this mystery, the kids, led by Dustin Henderson, established the Hawkins Investigators Club to search for answers and a way to defeat this new foe, and now, they need the help of McDonald’s fans too. These very same creatures have infiltrated the Golden Arches, and by scanning the QR code on every Happy Meal, guests can enter an interactive game and help the gang save Hawkins once more.

The Tales From '85 Happy Meals include a custom Stranger Things: Tales From '85-inspired Happy Meal box, one of 12 collectible character toys from the show, a Stranger Things activity book and the previously mentioned QR code that will drop fans right into the action.

‘Happy Days’ Star Why Reveals He Was Almost Fired From the Show 50 Years Ago

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:35pm

Scott Baio’s time on Happy Days was nearly cut short. The actor joined the cast of the ABCsitcom at the height of its popularity in 1977, playing Fonzie’s (Henry Winkler) cousin Chachi Arcola. Baio appeared in 131 episodes of the classic TV hit, but early on, producers considered letting him go.

During an appearance on the Arroyo Grande podcast, Baio, 65, told host Ramond Arroyo that at one point in the late 1970s, he got too big for his britches and almost got fired.

“There was a moment in time where I got a big head, and I was doing two shows at the same," the actor shared. “One was on ABC, Happy Days, one was on NBC. And I started getting a big head because I had two shows on prime time at the same time.”

“And  I'll tell you something that a lot of people don't know is that the producers on Happy Days wanted to fire me because I was not doing my job,” Baio revealed. “I wasn't taking it seriously. I thought I was, you know, the greatest thing since sliced bread. I wasn't performing well. I just thought I could get by on being cute and, you know, and funny, and it doesn't cut it after a while.”

Scott Baio and Henry Winkler on 'Happy Days.'

Photo by ABC Photo Archives on Getty Images

Baio credited late Happy Days showrunner Garry Marshall for convincing the other producers to “let him get through it.” Marshall also went to Baio’s dad, Mario, to let him know what was going on.

“And my father came home to me, and he said, 'Listen, you got one shot at this, and you're blowing it,'" Baio continued. "He says, 'Shut up. You're blowing it. You want to go back to Brooklyn?' And I went, 'Uh, no.' He says, 'Okay, well, get your act together and get to work.' Now, when my father told me that, I had a lot of fear from my dad, which I think is a good thing.”

“So I was still the same guy, but my head got a little big and then everybody slapped it back,” Baio added.

‘Who's Watching the Kids?

Baio didn’t name the other show he was on, but in 1978, he was cast on the NBC sitcom Who’s Watching the Kids? The short-lived series about two Vegas showgirls living with their younger siblings aired from September 22, 1978, to December 15, 1978. Baio played Frankie “the Fox” Vitola in 11 episodes of the comedy series before it was quickly canceled.

Baio kept his spot on Happy Days and became so popular that he scored a spinoff with co-star Erin Moran, titled Joanie Loves Chachi. The series lasted two seasons, from 1982 to  1984, and Baio returned to Happy Days as Chachi for its final season.

Baio once admitted he should have skipped Joanie Loves Chachi. “I regret doing Joanie Loves Chachi because, you know it’s very exciting to have your own show but if I wouldn’t have done it I could have had, I could have done anything I wanted,” he once said in an interview. “So I probably would have had a full season or two-season order for anything I wanted to do after that. I was 22, 23. You want your own show but…”

Baio blamed “the setup” of the musical sitcom for its failure. “This is not taking away from Erin Moran,” the Happy Days alum added.

Best-Selling Author’s Debut Becomes 2026’s Biggest Must-Read Novel

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:32pm

There’s a new kid on the block. And he’s got everybody talking.

Meet Nelio Biedermann. The 22-year-old Swisswriter and University of Zurichstudent has quickly become one of the most talked-about new authors of 2026, thanks to his debut novel, Lázár.

A sweeping Gothic-tinged saga that blends magical realism with the upheaval of 20th-century Europe, Lázár was first published in German last year and in English this month, with critics and fans going nuts over the Lázárs, a Hungarian aristocratic family who live through the collapse of the monarchy and two world wars, tracing loss, resilience, and hope.

Inspired by Biedermann’s own family and interviews with his great-uncle, the book has drawn major critical acclaim. The Times called it a “twisted modern fairy tale,” while New York’s McNally Jackson Books praised it as a “page-turning historical epic that feels like an old master wrote it — epic in scope, but never slow.”

Critics have also noted the young author’s literary influences, from Thomas Mann to Joseph Roth, with comparisons to writers like W.G. Sebald and Bohumil Hrabal. Biedermann himself cites Christian Kracht and Toni Morrison as legends he loves.

But the buzz isn’t limited to literary critics. Singer-songwriter Patti Smith and playwright Daniel Kehlmann are among the high-profile fans praising the instant best seller as “exquisite” and “dreamlike.”

In conversation with McNally Jackson, Biedermann described his reaction to receiving a message from Smith: “It’s completely surreal,” he said. “She texted me on Instagram, and I almost fainted, of course, because what else are you going to do when Patti Smith texts you?”

So, yes, the hype is real. Lázár is quickly becoming the breakout novel everyone will be reading this year. Cue the movie deal — let's get Joe Wright on the phone.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Investigators May Be Working Suspects as Case Is ‘Anything But’ Cold, Retired Detective Says

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:29pm

Retired detective Bob Gilliam says Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains an active and evolving investigation, pushing back against speculation that the case has gone cold. Speaking during a recent panel discussion on The Interview Room, Gilliam said he believes investigators may be working potential suspects and pointed to forensic analysis as a key factor that could ultimately determine the outcome. While no arrests have been announced, he suggested the case could still move forward in the coming months—or potentially take longer to resolve.

"This is not a cold case, in my opinion," Gilliam said during the live panel. "I've heard a lot of people speculate whether or not this case has gone cold. I think it's anything but that. As I've said previously on this show, I think that FBI and the Pima detectives, the investigators on the task force, are working suspects, potentially, and it's come down to probably some form of forensic analysis that's going to make or break the case."

"Sometimes these things just take a while. I thought, initially, we would have seen arrests by now, but I'm not surprised that we haven't. And so, you know, we're just going to—I hate to say this—but we're just going to have to wait and see. And I think we will see. Probably sooner rather than later, within the next few months."

Gilliam also noted that it could even take "a couple years" for the case to be solved. "We just simply don't know," he said. Regardless, Gilliam feels confident that the case will, in fact, be solved.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Despite receiving thousands of tips, authorities have yet to name a suspect or make an arrest in the case. Moreover, Guthrie's whereabouts are still unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI (1-800-CALL-FBI).

Mystery of the ‘Golden Orb’ Found at the Bottom of the Ocean in 2023 Was Finally Solved

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:28pm

The ocean has always had a way of igniting the imagination. Sailors once believed sea monsters lurked beneath dark waves. Today, we have remotely operated vehicles and high-resolution cameras exploring the deep. Yet every so often, the ocean still delivers a discovery that feels almost mythic.

In August 2023, scientists aboard a research vessel discovered something strange while exploring the seafloor of the Gulf of Alaska. A small golden dome, smooth and glowing under the bright lights of a robotic submersible, sat attached to a rock nearly two miles below the surface. The object looked like something out of science fiction.

Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.

A Strange Discovery in the Deep Sea

The mysterious object was first spotted on August 30, 2023, during the Seascape Alaska expedition led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Scientists were using a remotely operated vehicle called "Deep Discoverer" to map deep ocean habitats when the cameras captured an unusual sight on a rocky outcrop roughly 3,300 meters below the ocean surface.

The object was about four inches across, dome-shaped, and had a shimmering golden color that stood out against the dark seafloor. Even stranger, it appeared to have a small hole in one side, which made scientists wonder if something had entered or emerged from it.

Related: 120,000-Year-Old Discovery Made in Cave Hidden Under Historic Welsh Castle May Rewrite History as We Know It

During the livestream of the expedition, researchers openly debated what it could be. Early guesses ranged from a sponge attachment to coral or even an egg casing from an unknown deep-sea animal. At the time, NOAA scientists could only confirm one thing with certainty. The orb was biological in origin, meaning it came from a living organism.

Eventually, the submersible's robotic arm gently removed the object using a suction sampler so it could be studied back on the research ship. The true detective work had just begun.

Years of Investigation Reveal the Truth

For nearly three years, the golden orb remained an ocean mystery. Initial DNA testing provided only vague clues, and scientists could not immediately link the sample to any known marine species.

The breakthrough came after more advanced genetic sequencing. Scientists eventually discovered that the orb was not an egg or a new species. Instead, it was a piece of tissue from a rare deep-sea creature called Relicanthus daphneae, a giant sea anemone species that lives in extreme ocean depths.

Related: Construction Crew Makes a 300-Year-Old Discovery While Excavating in Historic U.K. City

The golden structure appears to have formed from dead cells at the base of the anemone, which attach the animal to the rock surface on the ocean floor. When the anemone moved or shed tissue, the remaining mass stayed behind, creating the smooth golden blob that puzzled scientists, according to Alaska News Source. Relicanthus daphneae is itself a remarkable organism. This deep-sea anemone can grow tentacles more than two meters long, drifting in dark waters where sunlight never reaches, per Science Alert.

Why the Deep Ocean Still Feels Like an Alien World

To travelers who love the ocean, discoveries like this highlight just how mysterious the deep sea remains. The environment where the orb was found is incredibly extreme. At depths beyond about 1,000 meters, sunlight disappears entirely. The water temperature drops to around 4°C (39°F), and the pressure can exceed 100 times the pressure at Earth’s surface.

For those of us who explore coastlines or sail along open water, it is easy to forget that beneath the surface lies an environment more mysterious than many places on land. In fact, large portions of the ocean floor remain unmapped and unexplored.

When I first watched footage of the golden orb discovery, I remember thinking it looked cinematic. The glowing object sitting quietly on the seafloor almost resembled a lost treasure. But the real story turned out to be far more interesting.

What Travelers Can Learn from the Golden Orb

For travelers who love the ocean, this discovery offers a quiet reminder. Standing on a beach or sailing across open water often feels like a complete experience. Yet beneath those waves lies a world we are only beginning to understand. The deep ocean remains one of the least explored environments on Earth.

The golden orb mystery shows how exploration continues to reshape our understanding of the planet. Even with satellites, robotics, and advanced genetics, the ocean still surprises us. Every coastline hides stories beneath the waterline. Sometimes those stories take the form of a glowing golden orb resting silently two miles below the sea.

‘All My Children’ Made History 23 Years Ago Today With This Groundbreaking Daytime First

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:24pm

On this day in 2003, ABC daytime made history when All My Children aired the first same-sex kiss on a U.S. daytime soap.

The landmark moment featured  Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel), daughter of the legendary Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) and her love interest Lena Kundera (Olga Sosnovska). ABC promoted the scene at the time as “a moment of truth and love.”

While promoting the storyline, creator of the series Agnes Nixon said, “The theme of `All My Children' from the beginning is the belief that, as God's children, we are all bound to each other by our common humanity despite our many personal differences, the Bianca story is our latest effort to dramatize that belief."

In the episode, Lena prepares to leave town after quitting her job, heading to the airport. Bianca Rushes to stop her, asking “Lena, wait! Are you leaving because of me?” After an emotional conversation about their relationship, Bianca says goodbye, telling Lena, "You touched my heart, and I will always treasure that.” As they part, Lena leans in and kisses Bianca, making television history.

Speaking to reporter Christine Champagne of PlanetOut at the time about the scene, Riegel said, “It's that kind of old romantic airport scene in which the two lovers decide whether they can take the risk and take a chance on love -- only it's two women this time." Reflecting on the kiss itself, she added, “I think that moment felt really real.”

The couple remained together for about a yea, navigating multiple dramatic storylines, including Bianca’s sexual assault by Michael Cambias (William DeVry), her pregnancy, and the revelation that her child was believed to be stillborn.

In April 2004, Lena’s mother reached out and explained that she had developed liver cancer and wanted to return to Poland before she died. Lena reluctantly agreed and on April 28, 2004 left Pine Valley to accompany her mother.

The couple attempted a long-distance relationship, but ultimately the distance proved too difficult, and they chose to part ways.

Sosnovska would go on to appear on series such as Law & Order, Spooks, Criminal Minds, and the feature film Ocean’s Thirteen. Meanwhile, Riegel remained a part of All My Children off and on until it’s final cancellation in 2013.

'A League of Their Own' Stars Madonna and Geena Davis Reunite 34 Years Later at Coachella

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:20pm

Coachella weekend resulted in an unexpected reunion between the stars of A League of Their Own.Madonna andGeena Davis posed for a reunion photo after both stars were part of Sabrina Carpenter's headlining set over the weekend.

It's been 32 years since the two icons starred together in the 1992 sports comedy directed by Penny Marshall and starring Tom Hanks. On Davis's Instagram, she posted the reunion photo with her co-star, giving a shoutout to their old movie characters.

"Mae - so happy to see you again! Love, Dottie," she wrote.

A League of Their Own tells the story of a fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Davis played the leading role of Dorothy "Dottie" Hinson, while Madonna starred as "All the Way" Mae Mordabito. The film follows the events back in World War II as the Chicago Cubs owner persuades fellow owners to commission a women's baseball team, as Major League Baseball is in jeopardy of being shut down.

The film was a box office success, having made $134 million at the box office against its $40 million budget. In 2012, it was even selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. A League of Their Own was one of Madonna's on-screen hits after films like Who's That Girl and Dick Tracy.

Fans of the original film were over the moon seeing the two stars reuniting, with one fan commenting, "We're the members of the All American League. We come from cities near and far. Love this!" It's the official anthem of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that was featured in the film.

Tom Schwartz Just Unveiled a Major Step He Took With 'Dreamy' New Girlfriend

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:19pm

It's getting serious between The Valley's Tom Schwartz and his new girlfriend, Kiana Carroll! The brunette model supported her guy from the audience of Watch What Happens Live! on April 22, and Schwartz made a surprising admission about a huge step they've recently taken in their relationship.

Host Andy Cohen said he was "so happy" for Schwartz after the TomTom founder confirmed he's officially been with his "dreamy" girlfriend for "seven months" now, then got a little more info on just how close they've gotten with another surprising question.

"Other than your infamous bubba and LVP tattoos, do you have any other tattoos or piercings that we'd be surprised by?" asked Cohen. After joking about having a NSFW piercing, the Vanderpump Rules star spilled the real tea.

"I have a tattoo... we have a sentimental one," he said, pointing at Carroll in the audience, who was nodding and beaming. "You have matching tattoos?! Wow! Seven months in?!" asked an incredulous Cohen. "We do, yeah."

Later on, Cohen asked about the most women Schwartz had ever kissed in a night, to which he bashfully admitted it was probably "like six" while partying in Cancun years ago. He looked nervously at Carroll, who covered her eyes and shook her head while laughing.

So, how are Schwartz and his ex-wife Katie Maloney getting along nearly four years after their divorce? "Great!" he told Cohen, adding, "I love to see her thriving. Her boyfriend's cool as hell, and we're in a great place."

Carroll has made a few rare appearances on Schwartz's social media, and he's taken those opportunities to talk about how he feels about the model.

"Let’s go to one [of my] favorite places in the world, NYC, w/ one of my favorite humans in the world [Kiana Caroll]," he wrote on Instagram in November 2025 while promoting an episode of his Detox Retox podcast featuring his lady. "She's got charisma, moxy, and is as funny as she is beautiful."

Schwartz finally made his first appearance on Carroll's Instagram feed in April 2026, when she included a blurry photo of them together in a carousel. "I made it to the grid!" he wrote, with a flaming heart emoji.

1967 Classic No. 1 Hit Ranked Among ‘Best Inspirational Songs’ of All Time

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:15pm

Nearly six decades after its release, (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson is still capturing pure, unfiltered joy.

The timeless tune, referred to as "possibly the greatest feel-good song of all time" by Time Out, was ranked No. 7 on the publication's roundup of the 37 best inspirational songs of all time, and it's clear to see why.

Landing in the Top 10 on the list published in May 2025, Wilson's nostalgic anthem is receiving fresh recognition, and Time Out agrees it is a fitting honor for a track that practically radiates optimism. "Possibly the greatest feelgood song of all time, this tune is three minutes of pure happiness and will fling you straight into summer. There are loads of cover versions knocking around, but – surprise surprise – the joyous original still wins hands down," the article noted of the song's inclusion.

Released in August 1967, “Higher and Higher” arrived during a pivotal moment in Wilson’s career, and helped spark a late-’60s comeback. Written by Gary Jackson, Raynard Miner, and Carl Smith, the song blended Chicago soul polish with Wilson’s electrifying vocal delivery, per Michigan Rock and Roll Legends.

Backed by top-tier session musicians—including members of Motown’s famed Funk Brothers—the recording carried a fullness and urgency that matched its uplifting message.
From its opening horns to its soaring chorus, the song doesn’t just suggest happiness—it insists on it. And audiences responded immediately.

On the charts, the track became one of Wilson’s biggest crossover hits. It climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B chart and surged to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing its place as both a soul staple and a pop favorite. Its success didn’t stop there, either: the song later found new life internationally, reaching the Top 20 in the UK during its 1969 release and again during a 1987 revival.

But chart numbers only tell part of the story. Over time, “Higher and Higher” has become shorthand for feel-good resilience—featured in films, commercials, and countless celebratory moments. Its enduring legacy was further cemented with induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Its staying power is also attributed to several covers, including Rita Coolidge's 1977 pop-country rendition—another Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit, peaking at No. 2—and Alabama Shakes leader Brittany Howard's version for Amazon Originals.

Overall, Wilson's career accolades included a stunning 54 US Hot 100 and 49 R&B singles chart entries, according to uDiscover Music.

'Temptation Island' Star Reveals Secret Bonfire Clips, 'Not What I Actually Saw'

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:14pm

The bonfires are the juiciest parts of Temptation Island. The couples are split into separate villas and are spending time with singles. They see what's going on in the other villa at the bonfire.

Season 2 showed a clip of Jack Mason cheating on Shyanne Blankenship, and she almost left the show. But another cast member revealed a secret about the Netflix series.

‘Temptation Island’ Episodes Show Bonfire Clips the Cast Didn’t See Scarlett and Cole on 'Temptation Island'

Scarlett Bentley was on season 2 with Cole Mueller. She was repeatedly disappointed by his lack of effort in bonfire clips. Sadly, we didn't see the real ones, according to her.

"A lot of the clips that you see on those bonfires that's not what I actually saw," Scarlett said on Reality Steve. "And so I'm seeing the bare minimum. I'm seeing that he doesn't even want to be there. That he doesn't want to participate. I'm also hearing him say a lot of the things that I've heard him say a million times. And so it was just nothing new."

She said some of the clips in the episodes weren't at the bonfire at all. The lack of depth in their relationship was constantly mentioned in the episodes. But she felt like communication was their biggest problem.

Her breaking point was his admission that he read her journal at the final bonfire. The season ended with Scarlett deciding to leave the island alone. However, Scarlett said that was also manipulated for the episode.

"I say I respect you and I respect this relationship enough to not make a final decision here," Scarlett said on the podcast. "I just want to leave alone and we can figure it all out in San Diego."

Part one of the season 2 reunion was released on The Viall Files. Scarlett and Cole revealed they are back to dating. Mikey Bivens also claimed that clips of him that were shown to Sydney McGregor at the bonfire were misleading.

Russell Brand Confesses to 'Exploitative' Behavior Amid Ongoing Assault Allegations

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:12pm

Amid his ongoing sexual misconduct case, Russell Brand, 50, has admitted to having sex with a teenage girl. Brand—30 at the time of the incident, to which he confessed—allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old girl.

On the "Megyn Kelly Show," the actor—who, in London's Southwark Crown Court in February, pleaded not guilty to a nearly two-decade-old count of sexual assault and another count of rape—admitted that he has indeed made regrettable choices regarding his sexual conduct.

"The plain fact of it is, in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I'm from, the age of consent is 16—and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30," he told Kelly, in the episode released on Wednesday, April 22. "But when I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old."

Brand acknowledged the "strong power differential" as a "famous man" who allegedly had "consensual sex with lots of women," calling his sexual conduct "exploitative."

"I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish," he continued. "I did not apply enough consideration—barely any, I suppose—really, to how that sex was affecting other people."

Recognizing the importance of the age of consent, Brand—who is now sober—blamed his addiction and fame for fueling an "opportunity for endless consent," which has turned him into a self-proclaimed "hedonist and a fool and an exploiter of women."

Brand is currently facing seven charges of sexual offences in the UK related to six women, including counts of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault. The alleged incidents occurred between1999 and 2009.

Brand, who has pleaded not guilty on all counts, has argued that he did not have sex with women without consent. However, his promiscuity, he has said, needs to be "redeemed and addressed and atoned for."

In an Instagram reel posted in December—following the two most recent charges of sexual assault and rape—he told followers that it was "a time of great darkness."

"I feel so blessed that I have the opportunity to atone for the many things over the years that I did wrong and the opportunity to ensure that people understand the truth of my situation and scenario," he said in the video. "I pray, Lord, that anyone I've harmed or hurt in my years of mindlessness and sin would be healed… And I pray, Lord, for the absolute truth of who I am to be abundantly revealed."

Fitness Influencer, 38, Drowned While She Was Swimming in the Texas Ironman Competition

Thu, 04/23/2026 - 12:09pm

38-year-old Mara Flávia Araújo, a fitness influencer with over 60,000 followers on Instagram, drowned while competing in the Texas Ironman competition on April 18. According to the official website, the triathlon consisted of three portions. “Athletes will start their journey in The Woodlands with a 2.4-mile, spectator-lined lake swim, cruise at their own volition for a 112-mile ride on mostly closed roads, and embrace the Texas faithful on one of the most spirited 26.2-mile runs in North America,” they stated.

Araújo drowned during the swimming portion of the competition, and was pulled to the surface by the Woodlands Fire Department.

View this post on Instagram

Araújo’s sister, Melissa, has just spoken out about the loss. “You lived life intensely,” she wrote in an Instagram post, which was reported on by People. “You were always synonymous with determination, with courage—with a strength that seemed too vast to be contained within you. You never did anything halfway; perhaps that is why you left such a profound mark on the lives of everyone who crossed your path.”

She continued, “A piece of me is gone, and I will have to learn to live without it. And it hurts in a way I cannot even explain. It is a strange silence, a void I knew existed all along—as if the world itself had lost a little of its color. Somehow, I know you will still be with me: in my decisions, in my courage whenever my strength falters, and in those little daily moments that only the two of us truly understood. I will carry you with me in everything I do. Rest now, my sister. It will hurt down here, but I will honor your life every single day.”

Ironman Texas also released a statement about her passing on their Facebook page. They said, “We are saddened to confirm the death of a race participant during the swim portion of today’s Ironman Texas triathlon. We send our deepest sympathies to the family…and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance.”
