Andie MacDowell Just Landed One of the Biggest Honors of Her Career

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:25am

Over the years, legendary actress and activist Andie MacDowell has maintained her household name status, thanks to iconic roles in just as equally renowned films and television shows, such as St. Elmo's Fire, Sex, Lies and Videotape, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Maid, and Hallmark Channel's The Way Home. The 68-year-old Hollywood celebrity has also graced our TV screens as a L'Oreal Global Ambassador for over four decades and is a proud grandmother and mother to actresses Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Rainey Qualley (Mad Men), and real estate agent Justin Qualley.

And this May, the four-time Golden Globe nominee will become the recipient of a once-in-a-lifetime honor — the Gracies Icon Award. The Gracies Icon Award is presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) to women with an exceptional "body of work that defined by authenticity, resilience, and an unwavering sense of self in an industry that rarely makes space easy."

Following the announcement of MacDowell's latest career achievement, AWMF President Becky Brooks stated, "Andie MacDowell belongs in the company of the legends who have carried this award before her. She has shown us what it looks like to lead with integrity, to grow with intention, and to stay fully, unapologetically herself, and she has done it in a way that has opened doors for women across the industry. We are honored to recognize her at the 51st Annual Gracie Awards."

MacDowell joins a distinguished list of celebrated names who have received their own Gracies Icon Award in past years, such as former TODAY show co-host Katie Couric, NBC News Chief Washington correspondent Andrea Mitchell, and Academy Award-winning actress/comedian Carol Burnett.

Fans can also expect to see a lot more of MacDowell, particularly in various TV and film roles, including A Grand Biltmore Christmas, The Right Side, The Token Groomsman, and the fourth and final season of The Way Home.

The 51st Annual Gracie Awards Gala will take place in Beverly Hills, California, on May 19.

Your May Social Security Check Won’t Be ‘On Time’—Here’s When You’ll Actually Get Paid

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:23am

The U.S. government sends out monthly Social Security payments to recipients. However, exactly when those deposits arrive will vary from month to month, depending on a variety of factors, including the day you were born.

That's why many people find themselves wondering when their checks will arrive each month, even though they've received the stipend for a while now. Curious when your May Social Security payment will arrive? Keep reading to learn when direct deposits will be sent to different recipients.

When Will May's Social Security Payments Be Sent

The Social Security payment schedule website lists when each of its payments will be sent. According to May's schedule, payments will go out:

  • May 13 for those born between the 1st and 10th of the month
  • May 15 for those born between the 11th and 20th of the month
  • May 28 for those born between the 21st and 31st of the month

When Will Those Receiving SSI and Social Security Receive Their May Payments

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is sent out on a different date. Those receiving this payment can expect their May direct deposit to arrive on the 1st of the month.

As for those who started collecting Social Security payments prior to May 1997, or folks who receive both Social Security and SSI, your May payments should also arrive on the 1st of the month.

What Should You Do if Your Social Security Payment Doesn't Arrive on Time

After the U.S. government phased out the majority of their paper check payments, many people started receiving their Social Security funds with a bit more regularity. However, that doesn't mean that payments don't occasionally arrive late...or not at all.

If you believe that you are owed a payment that hasn't arrived, the Social Security Administration (SSA) suggests reaching out to your bank directly to see if there was an internal delay with your payment. After you speak with your financial institution, you can call the SSA's national hotline at 1-800-772-1213 for additional help.

Those who live in an area with a local Social Security office can also reach out to their community office, which may be faster than calling the national number. That's because the SSA is experiencing higher-than-normal call volume due to several layoffs in 2025.

Some Social Security Offices Are Closed

Before you head in to meet with a local SSA representative, check the agency's website to make sure your regional office is open and accepting in-person meetings. The SSA has had to close a number of offices in April, with some remaining closed for virtual or phone appointments until further notice.

You can visit the SSA website, click on the letter that corresponds with the name of your state, and then search for closures or delays in your area.

Legendary '70s Guitarist Named Among 'Greatest Living American Songwriters'

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:22am

Nile Rodgers’ influence on modern music just got another major stamp of recognition.

The legendary guitarist, producer, and hitmaker—whose career started back in the early 1970s playing with the Sesame Street band and for talents like Aretha Franklin at the Apollo Theater—has been named among The New York Times’ list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters—a prestigious honor voted on by critics and more than 250 industry insiders.

Listed in no particular order, the outlet compiled the lineup featuring artists from a wide range of genres—from rock and pop to hip-hop and rap.

As Parade reported, Rodgers explained his approach to creating a hit in a video interview with the publication. “I can have a terrific idea, in my mind, to start with, by the time I finish with it, I’ve rewritten it three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 times,” he said. “So that’s how I think of myself, that I’m an arranger, and because of my arrangements they become the foundation of the song.”

A Career Built on Timeless Hits

For decades, Rodgers has been the architect behind some of the most recognizable songs in pop, disco, and R&B history. As co-founder of the band Chic, Rodgers helped define an era with No. 1 classics like “Le Freak” and “Good Times”—records that didn’t just top charts but reshaped the sound of dance and funk music.

His songwriting and production resume reads like a blueprint of excellence. Rodgers played a key role in crafting hits for icons including Diana Ross (“I’m Coming Out”), Madonna, David Bowie, and Daft Punk, whose Grammy-winning album Random Access Memories introduced his signature groove to a new generation.

Rodgers’ signature guitar style—clean, rhythmic, and instantly recognizable—has influenced countless artists across genres. It’s part of why he’s earned six Grammy Awards and inductions into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

More than just hits, his work has had lasting cultural impact. “Good Times,” for example, became one of the most sampled songs ever, helping lay the foundation for hip-hop and modern pop production. He was also named the No. 1 Singles Producer in the World by Billboard in 1985, per Ticketmaster Discover.

The Real Reason Why Traveling With Your Grandkids Is the Top Vacation Trend of the Year

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:19am

Family reunions are getting a modern upgrade. Instead of gathering in backyards or banquet halls, families are increasingly turning these moments into full-scale vacations, bringing grandparents, parents, and kids together for shared travel experiences. Known as multigenerational travel, this trend is quickly becoming one of the defining movements in the travel industry in 2026.

A Growing Trend Backed by Data

According to recent research, nearly half of hospitality professionals are seeing a rise in trips involving three or more generations, signaling a major shift in how families vacation.

This surge is also tied to changing priorities. Families are placing more value on time together, especially after years of disrupted travel. In fact, milestone-driven trips, like anniversaries, graduations, and reunions, are becoming a key reason people travel at all.

The article from Shaw Local reinforces this idea, emphasizing that the success of these trips comes down to one thing: creating a “diversity of experience” that allows every generation to enjoy the vacation in their own way.

Why Families Are Choosing Vacation-Style Reunions

There are several reasons why traditional family gatherings are evolving into destination experiences.

  • Meaningful connection over convenience: Modern families are prioritizing connection over logistics. Instead of a few rushed hours together, vacations offer extended, uninterrupted time to bond. Whether it’s storytelling over dinner or shared adventures, these trips create lasting memories across generations.
  • Celebrating milestones in a bigger way: Travel has become the go-to way to celebrate life events. Rather than hosting a party at home, families are choosing to mark milestones with experiences, turning birthdays or anniversaries into weeklong getaways.
  • Built-in activities for every age: One of the biggest challenges in multigenerational travel is balancing different interests and energy levels. The solution? Trips designed with flexibility. Cruises, resorts, and large vacation rentals are particularly popular because they offer multiple activities happening at once, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the trip on their own terms.

Related: The New ‘Silent Travel’ Trend: Why Some Travelers Are Choosing Destinations With No Wi-Fi

Tips for Planning a Multigenerational Trip

While these trips can be incredibly rewarding, they do require thoughtful planning. Here are a few tips to make it successful:

  • Plan for flexibility: Avoid overpacking the schedule. Leave room for downtime and let different groups split off when needed.
  • Choose the right accommodations: Look for spaces that balance togetherness and privacy, like villas, large rentals, or suites.
  • Involve everyone in the planning: From kids to grandparents, giving each person a say can make the trip more enjoyable for all.
  • Budget transparently: Discuss costs upfront to avoid confusion. Multigenerational trips often involve shared expenses, so clarity is key.
  • Focus on shared moments: Not every activity needs to include everyone, but plan a few anchor experiences, like group dinners or excursions, that bring the whole family together.

Multigenerational travel reflects a deeper shift in how people view vacations. As families continue to prioritize connection, celebration, and meaningful experiences, the line between “family reunion” and “vacation” will continue to blur.

This ‘Y2K Teen Bedroom’ Trend Is Everywhere—And It’s Pure Nostalgia

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:15am

For many of us, the resurgence of the “Y2K bedroom” as a retro interior decor style is, well, humbling. Seeing our own teenage bedroom decor rebranded as a trending TikTok aesthetic hits a little too close to home, but below the surface, there’s a clear reason as to why the sparkly Lisa Frank and Juicy Couture outfitted spaces are resonating.

It’s not necessarily the bubblegum pinks and zebra print linens that are making the aesthetic crop back up, but rather the feeling that those carefree early Internet days evoke.

Why Y2K, Why Now?

“As a luxury designer, a mother and a fan of nostalgia, I'm having fun seeing the Y2K bedroom trend take off as it's colorful, playful, bold and incorporates personality,” says Wendy Glaister, CEO, Founder and Principal Designer at Wendy Glaister Interiors.

“For years, bedroom spaces were influenced by clean neutrals and calm aesthetic, which many still want, but we are finding that many young people want to personalize their room as an expression of themselves,” she adds. “They are pulling items from the 90s and they are being influenced by what they are seeing on platforms like TikTok and Pinterest—the colorful lava lamps, inflatable chairs, fun furniture, the pixel-inspired graphics and the bright aesthetic that pops on camera are resonating and bringing joy and happiness into one's space during this time of uncertainty.”

View this post on Instagram

Another reason this trend is taking off is that it is easy to recreate without spending a fortune. “Thrift stores, online marketplace and discount stores all sell items that fit this trend,” says Glaister. “In addition, this trend is modular, so you don't need to fully commit to it—one can pull a few pieces to add to a room to make it pop, making this trend easier to adopt and less risky.”

From a psychological perspective, the retro-leaning Y2K aesthetic offers a unique comfort in the sustained uncertainty in the world today. “In addition to being visually stimulating, elements such as LED strips, shiny chrome finishes, inflatable furniture, beaded curtains and glossy plastic organizers appeal to what I refer to as hyper-visual comfort,” explains Dr. Lori Bohn, a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director at Voyager Recovery Center.

“This aesthetic reflects many early Internet visual styles (i.e., MySpace), but have been re-imagined with an emotional tone that is less complex and playful than today's digital landscape.”

View this post on Instagram

According to Dr. Bohn, people seek to regain some level of control over their environments by creating spaces that reflect aspects of their personality. “For younger adults, they create bedrooms that can be described as virtual mood boards and blend irony, nostalgia, and self-expression for a space that is at once highly personal and algorithmic.”

But it’s not just for teenage bedrooms anymore. The Y2K bedroom taps into that in a very specific way. It’s nostalgic, yes, but more importantly, it’s expressive. “Layered bedding, playful color, a mix of finishes, maybe something a little glossy or a lot sparkly, personal collections on display. It feels lived in and a bit unfiltered, which is exactly what people are leaning toward right now,” says Terri Brien, Interior Designer, Terri Brien Interiors.

“Early 2000s design reminds a lot of people of a simpler, more optimistic time, especially for millennials who are now creating homes of their own. In a world that feels a bit heavy at times, there’s something grounding about pulling in elements that feel familiar and a little carefree,” she adds.

How to Achieve the Y2K Bedroom Trend in 2026

Photo by AnnaStills on Getty Images

According to Brien, Y2K design gives people permission to have fun again. To take a few risks. To bring in something just because they love it, not because it fits into a perfectly curated palette.

“The best version of this trend isn’t a literal recreation of a 2002 bedroom. It's more of a nod,” says Brien. “Maybe it’s the color palette, maybe it’s the mix of materials, maybe it’s the slightly playful edge. When it’s done well, it layers into a space that still feels elevated, just with a little more personality and ease.”

At the end of the day, this trend is less about looking back and more about moving forward with a different mindset. One that prioritizes comfort, individuality and a home that actually feels like you want to be there.

Beastie Boys’ Mike D, 60, Sends Fans Into a Frenzy Performing Classic Hit: ‘It’s 1992 All Over Again’

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:15am

What year is it? Those attending the Ojai Valley Women's Club earlier in the month had a blast to the past, all the way back to the early 1990s. Taking them on this wild ride was none other than Mike D of Beastie Boys, who jumped on stage and grabbed the mic to perform some of the hip-hop group’s classic hits.

In footage taken of the Apr. 11 performance, Mike D (aka Michael Diamond 60) can be seen rapping “So What’cha Want,” taken from 1992’s Check Your Head, with the band Very Nice Person. Other clips have Mike D rapping his verses from  “Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun” from 1989’s Paul’s Boutique (along with what sounds like “Car Thief,” though one fan on Instagram said Mike D also did “High Plains Drifter”)

View this post on Instagram

Though the concert took place earlier in the month, footage of Mike D’s performance was recently resurfaced, alerting all those who may have missed it.

“It’s fantastic to see Mike onstage killing it. I really missed this,” commented one fan on Instagram. “Does anyone have a time machine? None of us knew!” wrote another one. The performance also brought out waves of nostalgia. “I miss the Beastie Boys so f--king much,” wrote a fan. “I am LOSING MY MIND- what an epic night for those of you lucky enough to be there!” said another, while a third remarked that they “Would have lost my damn MIND” if they had seen this in person.

This wasn’t Mike D crashing a show. It was more a moment of father-son bonding: Very Nice Person is a pop/electronic duo featuring brothers Skyler and Davis Diamond, the sons of Mike D and Tamra Davis.

View this post on Instagram

Mike D—alongside Ad-Rock and the late MCA—was part of the biggest hip-hop/alternative rock acts of all time. First forming as a hardcore punk band in 1981, the Beastie Boys shifted more towards hip-hop, releasing their landmark album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986. The band achieved mainstream success with Check Your Head in ’92 and Ill Communication in ’94.

However, they never lost their rock roots, as they fused punk and metal into songs like “No Sleep till Brooklyn,” “Gratitude,” and “Sabotage.” The group also released a couple of instrumental projects, like The In Sound from Way Out! and The Mix-Up.

Beastie Boys’ final album was 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. The band permanently broke up the following year after Adam “MCA” Yauch died from parotid cancer.

In 2015, the surviving members submitted a trademark application under the Beastie Boys name for “live performances by a musical group.” The Guardian noted that a representative for the band clarified that there “will never be Beastie Boys live performances without Adam Yauch.”

H Mart's $10 Fan-Favorite Product 'Finally' Arrives in Stores for a Limited Time

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:14am

H Mart shoppers are finally able to get their hands on a seasonal favorite treat.

The official account for the Korean supermarket announced the "seasonal gem you've been waiting for" is back with the return of Naturally Berry Sweet: Zespri RubyRed Kiwi.

Customers will be able to "experience a burst of vibrant color and berry-like sweetness" when indulging in the limied time offering.

The fruits have become a fan-favorite over the years due to their sweet flavor profile and  "beautiful red core," making them a less-tart option than green kiwis, with a more berry-like profile.

View this post on Instagram

Much like regular kiwis, they are also a great grab when you're looking for a little health boost.

The irresistible treat is nutrient-dense, with each kiwi "packed with antioxidants and vitamins," including vitamin C, to leave you with a "healthy glow" that's essential for the spring months.

However, the deep red center serves a larger purpose other than being aesthetically pleasing, as it provides anthocyanins (the same compounds found in berries like blueberries), which help fight oxidative stress and support overall health, per Fresh Fruit Portal.

The product of New Zealand is also well-priced, with a 2-lb bag ranging from $8.99 to $10.99 at stores, depending on your location, with many currently being offered at 15% off.

The return comes after a successful test launch the previous year, bringing expansion to the kiwi category, with Bianca Fiedler, Zespri’s Trade Marketing Director, North America, revealing, "The excitement from shoppers was immediate."

"RubyRed Kiwi’s vibrant color, naturally sweet taste, and sensory experience delivered strong consumer resonance and excitement at shelf," she added.

The RubyRed Kiwis can also be purchased online at H Mart, while supplies last.

The grocer previously went viral for its steak-shaped and fruit-shaped ice cream that remains a must-try.

‘Wayne’s World’ Star Tia Carrere, 59, Is More Stunning Than Ever Almost 35 Years After the Film

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 10:03am

Tia Carrere looks better than ever on the red carpet, almost 35 years after she rose to stardom in Wayne's World.

The beloved actress, 59, who is best known for her role as Crucial Taunt frontwoman Cassandra Wong in the iconic ’90s comedy Wayne’s World opposite Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, has had a four-decade career in Hollywood that includes hits like the original Lilo & Stitch and the film’s new live-action remake. But in a new appearance at the 2026 Scientific and Technical Awards at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Carrere made it clear she's only getting better with age.

How Was Tia Carrere Discovered?

Carrere always hoped to be in the entertainment business and was frequently spotted singing around town as a kid growing up in Hawaii. But it was a day at the grocery store that turned into her big break.

“I was at the Waikiki Food Pantry, which sold ‘white people food,’ and these were really fancy people, the parents of a producer were there,” she told PEOPLE. “They came up to me and said, ‘Darling, you’re gorgeous! You should be the female lead in our son’s movie!’ “

She had already started modeling, and was glammed up from a job, and wearing a lei of flowers on her head. Dressed in a bikini and a t-shirt, she already looked like a “Polynesian goddess,” Carrere recalled. But the event was enough to get her in to meet with a casting director. She ended up with a role in a film.

“It changed my life. It was called Aloha Summer, and honestly it’s gotten more press from me talking about it than anything else,” Carrere laughed.

How Did Wayne's World Change Tia Carrere's Life?

Carrere went on to explode with her role in Wayne’s World, and the actress was always grateful to Myers for casting her.

Wayne’s World was the movie that changed my life,” she told For Women First last year. “It was incredible to come up at that time, and thank God that Mike Myers wrote my role as an Asian character. I always joke that it could have otherwise gone to Cameron Diaz or Drew Barrymore, but I auditioned a number of times, and I sang and told them I had been in rock bands when I was younger, and I think that helped. I was able to identify with the character in a realistic way.”

We Asked 3 Pilates Instructors How To Get That ‘Flat Abs’ Look—and They All Said the Same Thing

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:59am

Real talk: You likely always leave the Pilates studio feeling much better than you did when you walked in. Whether you’re performing leg circles, rowing pulls, swan lifts or hundreds, Pilates is a stellar way to reap the benefits of an invigorating full-body workout. A consistent Pilates practice can improve posture, mobility, flexibility and muscle tone while strengthening the muscles deep inside your core, including the transverse abdominis (TVA). Plus, regular exercise serves as an incredible natural mood booster.

Now, if your main goal is to achieve a sculpted, flat abs aesthetic, there are certain exercises, tips and techniques to prioritize during your practice. In fact, we asked three Pilates instructors how to get the look—and they all said the same thing.

“Pilates is so effective for creating a flatter midsection because we focus on proper TVA engagement in every exercise,” explains Sophia Holm, certified Pilates instructor at Studio 6 Pilates and Wellness. “We work from the Powerhouse: your deep core muscles, glutes, inner thighs and back. Every movement originates in the powerhouse, and every movement is built on proper alignment. The deep focus on intentional movement, control, precision and breath is what makes the Pilates method so unique and so effective in achieving the strong, toned ab look.”

According to Holm, the TVA works with the diaphragm and pelvic floor to provide stability to the spine and manage intra-abdominal pressure. It wraps around the torso and connects the pelvis and ribs, channeling an “internal corset.”

“When clients say they want flat abs, they are looking to connect to the TVA to better manage pressure transfer in the abdomen during core muscle engagement, preventing the belly from bulging and creating the flat ab look,” Holm adds.

Now, let’s dive into the technique Pilates instructors agree is essential for achieving flat abs.

The Best Move for Flat Abs, According to 3 Pilates Instructors

If you want to get flat abs, make sure to do the “Pilates Scoop” in each session. This technique calls for you to draw the deep abdominals in and up toward the spine, establishing a hollow, “scooped-out” sensation in the tummy. It’s the essential internal corset type of engagement Holm previously referred to.

“Some common cues for that include scooping abs in and up into the ribcage; taking an 'ice cream scoop' to the low belly,” she says.

The goal is to exhale completely and wrap the ribs down while lifting your lower abdominals in. This is not simply to “tighten your core,” but to also coordinate your breath to actively pull your ribcage down and inward, says Daisy Zhang, pilates instructor and founder of Mind Pilates.

In order to understand why this technique works, it’s important to first understand the muscles within your core. The TVA is the deepest abdominal muscle that wraps around your torso. Above it sit the internal obliques, then the external obliques, which are close to the surface. The front of your abs house the rectus abdominis, which are commonly known as the “six-pack” muscles.

“The Pilates Scoop is so effective because it engages all layers of the abdominals, most importantly the deepest layer, the Transverse Abdominis,” says Jill Drummond, pilates instructor and vice president of fitness at BODYBAR Pilates.

The Role Breathing Plays in Proper Deep Core Engagement

It’s a common mistake in Pilates to pull your stomach in and hold your breath. However, effective core training actually requires the exact opposite.

“The goal is to engage the deep abdominal muscles while continuing to breathe naturally and consistently. Breath and movement must work together—because you can’t sustain functional core engagement if you’re holding your breath,” says Drummond. “Learning to connect breath with core activation allows for better stability, control and strength throughout every movement.”

Your breath is the most solid connection to your deep core muscles. When you take a deep breath in, your diaphragm contracts downward, placing pressure on the pelvic floor and TVA, prompting them to lengthen. When you exhale, your diaphragm relaxes, causing the pelvic floor and TVA to contract and tighten, Holm explains.

“That tightening of the TVA is the scooping sensation, or internal corset that flattens out the abs,” she says. “Without our breath, we cannot properly transfer pressure in the abdominals, which can result in decreased core stability and impaired diaphragm function.”

According to Zhang, proper breathing also keeps your belly from protruding outward.

How Proper Core Engagement Can Impact the Belly’s Appearance

Successful core engagement and alignment can improve the appearance of your midsection without having to lose weight.

“When we connect to the deep core properly, our alignment improves, as does our posture,” Holm tells Parade. “In Pilates, we focus on lengthening the spine and body just as much as strengthening. As a result, we hold ourselves taller, our midsections appear leaner and our bodies move through space more effortlessly.”

2 Pilates Exercises To Achieve Noticeable Flat-Abs Results

Below are a couple of expert-approved Pilates exercises to prioritize in your practice.

1. The Hundred

This exercise promotes endurance and activates the deep core.

According to Holm, “[It] challenges your ability to hold the abs in and up while breathing for 100 counts.”

  1. Begin seated on a mat.
  2. Roll back, bring your chin to your chest and hover your shoulders above the ground.
  3. Extend your legs to form a 45-degree diagonal, bringing them together and pointing your toes.
  4. Reach your arms ahead of you.
  5. Keep your lower belly gently drawn in as you begin to pump your arms.
  6. Breathe in a rhythm—inhaling for 5 seconds, then exhaling for 5 seconds—without allowing your abdomen to bulge.
2. Planks with Pilates form

Performing a plank with proper Pilates form can help you build complete core integration, Zhang tells us.

  1. Begin by placing your hands under your shoulders on the mat.
  2. Press into the pads of your fingers and hug your inner arm in toward your armpit.
  3. Walk your feet out to hip-distance apart.
  4. Gently lift through your pelvic floor and draw your waist in.
  5. Focus on lengthening from your head to your heels as you hold the position.

If you want to achieve flat abs, Pilates is the way to go. Practice your Pilates Scoop, sync it up with your breath and you’re on a surefire path to success.

King Charles Has Quick-witted Response To Comedian's Impression Of Him During U.S. Visit

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:55am

King Charles has got jokes.

During his visit to the United States this week, the monarch was greeting guests at the White House and came across comedian and impressionist Matt Friend.

Friend, who's known for his spot-on impressions of Donald Trump, Howard Stern, and Andy Cohen took his chances during a quick moment in the receiving line to show off his best King Charles to the royal himself and shared the encounter on Instagram.

"Hello, it's an honor to meet you," Friend said in his normal speaking voice before switching over to a British accent.

"I've been working on an impersonation of you, it's not bad, I've been trying to study you," he said.

To which King Charles replied, "Keep trying. We'll award you marks of merit."

The comedian who was ultimately a good sport after the the royal's quip, took to the comments of his post saying, "He didn't miss a beat!"

And while the comments section as a whole had no shortage of applause emojis, fans also commended Friend for his gutsiness as well as the King for his funny retort.

"Dude, you just impersonated the King to the King. Much respect to you," one said.

"That was quick of the King. Royal sense of humor…" another said.

"Well done!" simply said another.

Southern State Dubbed Most Dangerous Place To Drive in During Summer

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:53am

Summer road trips have a special kind of magic. Windows down, playlists queued, and the long ribbon of highway stretching toward somewhere new. But behind the romance of the open road lies a quieter reality. Some parts of the United States are simply more dangerous to drive in during the summer months than others.

A recent study highlighted a surprising statistic: Mississippi ranks as the most dangerous state for summer driving in the U.S. The finding raises important questions for travelers planning road trips through the American South. The data also tells a broader story about rural highways, summer traffic patterns, and the way geography shapes road safety.

Your next trip starts here—get curated travel stories when you sign up for our newsletter.

Why Mississippi Is the Most Dangerous State for Summer Driving

Mississippi may be rich in blues music, river towns, and historic highways, but statistically, it has the highest summer road fatality rate in the country. According to research analyzing traffic fatalities from June through August, the state recorded 1.88 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, the highest rate in the nation.

To put that into perspective, Massachusetts, the safest state for summer driving, recorded only 0.67 deaths per 100 million miles during the same period. The difference is dramatic. Mississippi’s fatality rate is nearly three times higher.

The causes are not mysterious. Researchers point to several structural factors that shape the risk. Southern and western states often have long rural highways, higher speed limits, and fewer divided roads. Trauma centers can also be far apart, which means emergency response times may be longer when accidents occur. Mississippi is not alone on the list either. Other high-risk states include West Virginia, South Dakota, Arkansas, and Montana, all places with similar road networks and geography, per Travel & Leisure.

The Hidden Danger of Summer Road Trips

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day lies what safety experts often call the “100 Deadliest Days” on American roads. During this period, traffic spikes as families travel, teenagers drive more frequently, and tourism surges nationwide.

Data from recent studies show that over 10,000 people died on U.S. roads during the summer months of 2024, averaging about 113 deaths per day. Even though overall fatalities have declined slightly in recent years, the summer season remains the most dangerous stretch of the calendar, per Money Geek.

More drivers are on the road for vacations and weekend trips. Warm temperatures increase the likelihood of tire problems or vehicle stress. Distracted driving also rises as travelers juggle navigation apps, music playlists, and unfamiliar roads. Teen drivers add another layer to the equation. With school out, younger drivers spend more time behind the wheel, and crash rates for this age group tend to increase during the summer months.

Smart Road Trip Habits That Make a Real Difference

The good news is that many of the risks associated with summer driving are manageable.

Experts emphasize a few simple habits that dramatically improve safety, according to Travel & Leisure:

  • Take breaks. Even professional drivers say stepping out of the vehicle for a short walk can restore alertness and reduce fatigue during long drives.
  • Temperature also matters. Keeping the car slightly cool helps prevent drowsiness during long highway stretches.
  • Another tip is to limit distractions. Phones, navigation systems, and entertainment screens compete for attention on unfamiliar roads. Even a moment of distraction can be dangerous when traveling at highway speeds.
  • And finally, seatbelts remain one of the simplest lifesaving tools available. Studies show they reduce the risk of fatal injury by roughly 45 percent in serious crashes, according to Corradino & Partners.

The Joy and Responsibility of the Open Road

Driving remains one of the most beloved ways to explore the United States. According to Travel & Leisure, nearly three-quarters of Americans say they plan to drive on their next vacation, making road trips one of the defining travel experiences in the country.

Knowing which regions pose higher risks helps travelers plan better routes, choose safer stops, and stay alert during long drives. Mississippi may hold the unfortunate distinction of being the most dangerous state for summer driving, but with awareness and careful planning, travelers can still enjoy everything the region has to offer.

‘The Love Boat’ Star Exposes One Man on Set Who ‘Was Not a Good Human’

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:50am

Jill Whelan played the captain’s daughter on The Love Boat, which premiered in 1977. Although she “has fond memories of [the] cast and crew,” she admitted that she wasn't a fan of everyone who worked on set during an appearance on theStill Here Hollywood podcast.

"Not so fond memories of Doug Cramer,” the actress said, referring to one of the show’s producers, who passed in 2021. “Doug was a misogynist and I've never talked about it. But he's passed now and his children are passed as well. So I feel safe in saying, but he was not an advocate of women, at all."

"He was not a good human," Whelan continued. "When we would come, Lauren Tewes, who played Julie McCoy, we would come to a wardrobe fitting at a new season, to get new uniforms and new evening gowns and new loungewear, and he would call the wardrobe department and tell them to buy everything one or two sizes smaller than we are so that we would come in and be embarrassed in fittings about things not fitting.”

Related:1955 ‘I Love Lucy’ Episode, Starring William Holden, Was Ranked No. 1 in the Entire Series

Whelan said that when she tried to lose weight, and was working with “a crazy doctor” who had her consuming only 400 calories per day, she was still punished for her size.

"I just learned this information from a dear friend of mine, who was his executive assistant,” she revealed. “She said we were in dailies one day, and for people who need to know what that is, once you shoot a day, at least in film, on the set the next day, the editor prepares everything, all the takes and everything, that the director has said print to. And the producers and the director and everybody that needs to, watches it on the big screen."

She continued, "There's a scene where I come out of an elevator and the doors open into a purser's lobby, and I'm in an evening gown with a sweetheart neckline and she said, 'You looked great.' It was a full-body shot, and Doug said, 'Oh, no, I don't want that shot. I don't want to see her looking thin. I'm pissed off she was fat in the first place. Neck up only.'"

Although Whelan did not have a positive experience with Cramer, she has spoken highly about her castmates, like Fred Grandy, Bernie Kopell, and Ted Lange.

“We enjoy each other's company and we enjoy each other's intellect—whether we have it or we don't,” she said. "But we all love each other's sense of humor and we know each other so well. When we work together, there is a shorthand that is super satisfying.”

Here’s Exactly What To Eat at McDonald’s if You Have Fatty Liver Disease

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:50am

Being diagnosed with fatty liver disease can make you question everything you put in your mouth. Is it OK to eat certain foods you previously loved, or should you avoid them going forward? If you’re craving fast food, it’s fair to wonder what—or even if—you can eat at McDonald’s if you have fatty liver disease.

It’s important to point out that McDonald’s should be an occasional thing if you have fatty liver disease. “McDonald’s, similar to many fast food chains, isn’t an optimal place for liver-healthy options,” says Jessica Cording, RD, author of The Little Book of Game-Changers. “But if you’re there, you can absolutely make choices that are at least more balanced and less likely to work against your goals.”

Related: The Cooking Oil To Avoid if You Have Fatty Liver Disease, According to Gastroenterologists

Keep in mind that this is also true if you’ve been diagnosed with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, or MASLD. “We don’t use the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease terminology anymore,” says Dr. Hatef Massoumi, MD, director of clinical hepatology, transplant hepatologist, and gastroenterologist, at Montefiore Einstein. “The name has been changed to MASLD.” The reason: Some in the medical field felt there was too much stigma associated with “fatty liver,” although Dr. Massoumi admits there’s been confusion among patients as a result of the name change.

Whether you’re currently at McDonald’s or planning a special trip, it’s fair to wonder what’s OK for you to eat. Experts recommend keeping this in mind.

What To Eat at McDonald’s if You Have Fatty Liver Disease

There’s no one food at McDonald’s that’s ideal for people with fatty liver disease, according to Dr. Anthony Martinez, MD, hepatologist and associate professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo. “If you’re at McDonald’s, think simple and portion-controlled—a basic hamburger or an Egg McMuffin is reasonable,” he says.

Cording agrees, although she explains that you can make the Egg McMuffin healthier if you remove the Canadian bacon. “In general, go light on sauces, creamy dressing and crispy and fried items,” she adds.

But Dr. Martinez recommends that you “skip the extras,” meaning avoid the fries, sugary drinks and large portions. “Water, black coffee or unsweetened beverages are always better choices,” he says.

Why Diet Matters With Fatty Liver Disease

Diet plays a big role in the management of fatty liver disease, according to Dr. Martinez. “Fatty liver is largely driven by what we eat—especially excess calories, refined carbs and processed foods,” he says. “The liver acts like a metabolic filter, and when it’s overloaded with sugar and unhealthy fats, it starts storing fat instead of processing it.”

Every food choice you make either helps your liver recover or adds to the burden, he explains.

But Cording stresses that one meal is unlikely to make or break you. “It’s all about the big picture,” she says. “One meal high in sugar, refined carbs and/or saturated fat is not going to automatically damage a healthy liver—nor will one healthy meal magically heal a liver already affected by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It’s about long-term diet patterns.”

Related: The ‘Healthy’ Drink That’s Silently Damaging Your Liver, According to Hepatologists

The Best Diet for Fatty Liver Disease

A Mediterranean-style diet is considered best for fatty liver disease, according to Dr. Martinez. “Focus on real, whole foods—vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, legumes and healthy fats like olive oil,” he says. “Cut back on sugar, especially sugary drinks and ultra-processed foods — they are major drivers of liver fat.”

Cording suggests prioritizing lean protein and fiber to stabilize your blood sugar and keep you full. “Limit high-fat meats, fried foods and processed meats,” she says. “Keep calories in a place that supports weight maintenance or healthy weight loss, depending on your needs.”

Overall, Dr. Martinez says it’s crucial to keep a long-term pattern in mind with your eating vs. stressing over one day or one meal. “If you improve what you eat most of the time, your liver will respond,” he says. Cording agrees. “One fast food meal won’t cause fatty liver disease—but habits over time matter,” she says.

New Research Shows Travelers Are Spending a Quarter of Their Travel Budget on Non-Travel Items

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:41am

A new wave of travel research is reshaping how we think about vacation spending, and it turns out flights and hotels are only part of the story. According to a recent study highlighted by Expedia Group, travelers are dedicating a significant portion of their budgets to purchases that go beyond traditional travel expenses. In fact, the findings reveal that travelers spend roughly 25% of their total trip budget on non-travel items, averaging about $500 per trip.

Research and Methodology

The study surveyed 3,500 travel decision-makers across seven global markets, making it one of the more comprehensive looks at traveler behavior in recent years. The respondents represented a range of demographics, helping researchers understand not only how much people spend, but also when and why they make purchases beyond flights, accommodations, and transportation.

One key insight is that these purchases aren’t random; they are closely tied to the travel experience itself. From the moment travelers begin planning their trips to the time they return home, spending extends into categories that support, enhance, or commemorate the journey.

The methodology also highlights a broader shift in consumer behavior. Travel is no longer a standalone expense; it now triggers additional spending across industries such as retail, beauty, electronics, and financial services.

What Travelers Are Spending On

So what exactly counts as “non-travel” spending? The research points to several key categories:

  • Clothing and accessories: Many travelers shop for new outfits specifically for their trips. Whether it’s beachwear, hiking gear, or city-friendly fashion, these purchases are often justified as part of the experience.
  • Beauty and personal care products: Travel-sized toiletries, skincare, and cosmetics frequently make the list, especially for longer or international trips.
  • Electronics: Items like headphones, portable chargers, cameras, and even new phones are common pre-trip purchases.
  • Experiential add-ons: While technically tied to travel, things like guided tours, event tickets, or special dining experiences may fall outside core travel bookings.
  • Souvenirs and gifts: Spending doesn’t stop during the trip; many travelers allocate money for keepsakes or gifts for friends and family.

Interestingly, younger travelers are even more likely to make these purchases, with higher participation rates among Gen Z and Millennials. This reflects a growing trend where travel is seen as an “all-in” lifestyle experience rather than just transportation and lodging.

Related: The New ‘Silent Travel’ Trend: Why Some Travelers Are Choosing Destinations With No Wi-Fi

Why This Trend Matters

This shift has important implications for both travelers and the broader economy. For travelers, it means the true cost of a trip is often underestimated. Many people budget for airfare and hotels but overlook the additional $500 (or more) they’re likely to spend elsewhere.

It also reflects a psychological trend: people are increasingly willing to spend money to enhance their experiences. Even as budgets tighten, travel remains a priority, and spending is simply redistributed across categories.

Budgeting Tips for Smarter Travel

If you want to stay in control of your finances while still enjoying your trip, a few smart strategies can make a big difference:

1. Build a “hidden costs” category: When planning your budget, explicitly set aside money for non-travel purchases. Treat it as a fixed category rather than an afterthought.

2. Add a buffer: Experts recommend adding a 10–15% cushion to your overall travel budget to cover unexpected expenses. This can help absorb impulse purchases without causing financial stress.

3. Plan purchases in advance: Instead of buying everything last minute, make a checklist of what you’ll need, clothes, gear, or accessories, and shop strategically to avoid overspending.

4. Set daily spending limits: Breaking your budget into daily allowances can help you stay on track, especially for things like shopping, dining, and activities.

5. Prioritize experiences over impulse buys: Ask yourself whether a purchase will genuinely enhance your trip or just add clutter. This mindset can help you spend more intentionally.

6. Track spending in real time: Use a budgeting app or simple notes on your phone to keep tabs on your expenses throughout the trip.

This new research makes one thing clear: travel spending extends far beyond flights and hotels. With a quarter of budgets going toward non-travel items, understanding these hidden costs is essential for better planning. By recognizing where your money is really going and budgeting accordingly, you can enjoy your trip without the post-vacation financial hangover.

Ivanka, Eric, and the Rest of the Trump Family Go Glam for the Lavish White House State Dinner

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:27am

It’s an affair fit for a king, literally. King Charles and Queen Camilla enjoyed a luxe state dinner at the White House on Tuesday evening. And while all eyes were on the royals, when it comes to going glam, the children of President Donald Trumpdid not disappoint.

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 28: U.S. President Donald Trump makes remarks in the East Room during an official state dinner at The White House on day two of the State Visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the United States of America, on April 28, 2026 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Samir Hussein/WireImage) Getty Images Did All of Donald Trump’s Children Attend the State Dinner?

No, not all of the President’s children attended the White House state dinner. Donald Trump has five children: Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. (with ex-wife, the late Ivana Trump), Tiffany (with Marla Maples), and Barron (with current wife, Melania Trump).

Only three of the Trump children were seen at the dinner—Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany.

Ivanka Trump

Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, attended the state dinner for King Charles and Queen Camilla with her husband, Jared Kushner. Ivanka seemed to channel her fashion icon mother, Ivana, in a floor-length, gauzy baby-blue Reem Acra gown with gold sequined-embroidered accents. Smoky eyes, long, loose hair, and dazzling diamond earrings completed the look!

Only one of Trump’s sons attended this event. And while Eric is Trump’s child, his wife got all the attention. Lara Trump chose a sleek, classic, body-hugging, off-the-shoulder white gown.

Tiffany Trump attended the event with business executive Michael Boulos. Trump wore a fitted, strapless, pastel-yellow dress with a detailed bodice and a flowing, pleated skirt, turning heads. According to royal protocol, shoulder-baring gowns are typically a no-go for formal events. But given that the dinner was at the White House and not Buckingham Palace, the elegant option wasn’t a major misstep.

Like her sister, Tiffany opted for long, flowing blend waves with a major old-school Hollywood vibe.

Of course, the star-studded dinner guest list included plenty of other famous faces. Notable names in attendance were Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Bezos, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Supreme Court  Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy and his television personality wife Rachel Campos-Duffy, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, First Lady Melania Trump’s father Viktor Knavs, two-time Masters winner, professional golferRory McIlroyand his wife Erica McIlroy, Stephen Miller and his pregnant podcaster wife Katie Miller, former NFL player Keith Poole, Marco Rubio, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Vice Presdient JD Vance and his pregnant wife Usha Vance, and journalist Maria Bartiromo

Who Didn’t Attend the Event with King Charles and Queen Camilla?

One member of Trump’s close staff was noticeably missing from the photos. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made an appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. The very pregnant soon-to-be mom of two did not attend the state dinner, leaving the public to wonder if she had already given birth.

Costco Makes First Change to Iconic Hot Dog Combo in 40 Years

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:20am

For decades, Costco’s beloved $1.50 hot dog and soda combo has remained virtually untouched, earning a cult following among loyal shoppers who value the warehouse giant for its budget-friendly grocery and household options.

But recently, the membership-only retailer made a notable change to the offering—a first in more than 40 years.

Fans don't have to worry, as the price of the combo meal remains unaffected, which has long been seen as a symbol of Costco's commitment to value.

The hot dog itself, which has been a food court staple since the 1980s thanks to co-founder Jim Sinegal, will not be impacted. Instead, the change focuses on the drink portion of the combo, which longtime customers may immediately notice.

While the combo has typically been offered with your choice of soda, it will now come with the option of purchasing a combo with a bottle of water.

In June 2025, it was announced that the warehouse would be phasing out its partnership with Pepsi to begin offering Coca-Cola products in its food courts.

The change was spotted by Costco Aisles, revealing that customers who are more health-conscious or not fans of soda can now choose a 16.9-ounce bottle of Kirkland Signature water to wash down their beef frank.

View this post on Instagram

"I love that Costco is now also offering the hot dog combo with water!" the post declared, though reactions to the change have been pretty mixed.

"There’s a water button on the fountain drinks. So hmmmm," one wrote, as another emphasized environmental concern, "Why use more plastic when water is available in the soda dispenser?"

Someone else flagged a change, writing, "This doesn’t make sense. I noticed they removed the bottled water vending machine that was 25¢ so shouldn’t it be $1.25? Just sayin’ 🤷🏼‍♀️."

Another countered, "I rather get the water tbh," as many prefer the taste of bottled water over fountain water.

One thing remains clear, however: the new combo offering allows customers to choose the option that works best for them, while remaining one of the most affordable food deals around.

Val Kilmer’s Beautiful Daughter Advocates for Using AI-Generated Version of Her Late Father in New Film

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:17am

Val Kilmer's beautiful daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, is opening up about why she's in favor of using AI-generated versions of her late father in films.

Mercedes, 34, was glowing during a Tuesday appearance on TODAY as she spoke about her father, who rose to stardom in films like Top Gun and The Doors. An AI-generated version of her father appears in the upcoming film As Deep As the Grave, and Mercedes went on to say that her dad "wanted to do this" out of a desire to create "structures for actors to own their licensing and to have rights."

Kilmer passed away from pneumonia after he had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014.

“My dad was very passionate that this is the time, before these laws are written, to make sure that there’s a structure for compensation, to make sure that actors get paid on par with what they would get paid if they were physically doing it, and if it creates more jobs in that way, that’s wonderful,” Kilmer explained to Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie.

“I think this is a really historic precedent, and I’m really proud of him,” she continued. “It started off as something to overcome the limitations of his illness, but then it evolved into something that he really was like, ‘Oh wait I have a chance to actually set precedent.’”

Did They Use AI in Top Gun: Maverick?

Yes! Kilmer made his last film appearance in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, reprising his role as Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazansky from the original 1986 film. The project reunited him with the movie's iconic star, Tom Cruise. However, since Kilmer had already lost his voice at the time, they used a "voice engine" to teach a voice model how to speak like Kilmer, Fortune reported.
