People Who Live In This 'Blue Zone' Swear This Type of Soup Is the Key to Living to 100

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 6:25pm

Many of us think of minestrone soup as a comforting first course at an Italian restaurant or an easy weeknight meal that our kids may or may not eat. But what if we told you that eating minestrone soup regularly could help you live to 100?

In the "Blue Zone" (or region of the world with a high amount of centenarians) of Sardinia, a family of nine siblings whose collective age was 851 (the oldest was 109) told educator and Blue Zones author Dan Buettner that they ate the same meal every day. What was that meal, you ask? Minestrone soup, a slice of sourdough bread and a glass of red wine.

Yes, you read that right: Regularly eating this delicious combination of foods for lunch or dinner is associated with longevity. But why is minestrone soup so good for you? What about the sourdough and red wine factor? Here's what to know.

Why Minestrone Soup Could Help You Live to 100

To put it simply, minestrone soup—which is made up of a wide variety of vegetables, beans and some kind of pasta—is just really good for you.

"Minestrone is packed with plants and offers a wide variety of health-promoting nutrients including fiber, protein, potassium, vitamin A, iron and phytochemicals," says Edwina Clark, MS, RD and founder of Edwina Clark Nutrition. "Eating a wide variety of plants is associated with a myriad of health benefits such as reduced risk of cardiovascular, some forms of cancer, type II diabetes, all-cause mortality and age-related cognitive impairment."

In other words, a diet that regularly includes minestrone soup is great for fighting and preventing disease.

But Wait—What About Sourdough Bread and Red Wine?

Minestrone soup may be the star of the show, but the sourdough bread and red wine shouldn't be ignored. "Sourdough has a lower glycemic index than other forms of bread because of the acid in the starter culture," Clark explains. "This means that it typically doesn't spike blood sugar as much as more refined bread options. Sourdough also tends to be lower in gluten because some of the gluten is digested by the starter culture during the fermentation process."

As for red wine, the jury is still out on whether any amount of alcohol is good for you, and the World Health Organization's official stance on it is that no amount of alcohol is safe for your health. That being said, there is some research to suggest that of all the alcohol types you can consume, red wine is probably the best.

"Research suggests that moderate red wine consumption (one glass per day for women and two glasses per day for men) is linked with improved heart health, reduced inflammation and better blood glucose control," Clark explains. "These benefits have largely been attributed to the abundance of polyphenolic and anti-oxidant compounds found in red wine."

These benefits may be canceled out by the risks associated with alcohol consumption, however. A large 2022 study of more than 36,000 adults concluded that light and moderate drinking could reduce brain volume. Yikes.

While we're not 100% sold on red wine as a predictor of longevity, we're all for regular minestrone soup and sourdough bread consumption. As a nice bonus, you probably already have all or most of the ingredients in your kitchen, because who doesn't have a few cans of beans, a handful of veggies and a little bit of pasta?

Kelly Osbourne and Her Date Turn Heads With Puzzling Grammys Looks

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 6:16pm

Kelly Osbourne is in the house for the 2024 Grammys with boyfriend Sid Wilson, and the duo is definitely commanding attention on the red carpet.

The British singer and TV personality showed up to the prestigious award show on Sunday, Feb. 4, while making her red carpet debut with Wilson, a musician known for being the turntablist for the heavy metal band Slipknot.

The couple raised some eyebrows during their red carpet photocall, especially since Wilson, 47, had his face completely covered by a leather mask—though fans of the band will know that his strange attire is unsurprising for the Slipknot member, as the band has long been known for performing on stage and doing gigs with masks on.

But even Osbourne's garb for the evening seemed to turn some heads, as the 39-year-old was giving major witchy vibes while wearing all black, save for her hair, which was dyed a bright shade of violet. Wilson also added a colorful scarf with purple accents to his look, matching perfectly with Osbourne's vibrant hair.

As far as her outfit, the former reality star was clad in a partially sheer floor-length black gown, which featured a pointed neckline with a spider web-like design.

The body-hugging gown featured a mermaid-style skirt and was accessorized with a pair of open-toe black heels and a bedazzled purse designed to look like a retro radio.

Sunday's appearance at the Crypto.com Arena marks Osbourne and Wilson's first time posing on the red carpet together since beginning their relationship in January 2022. The couple welcomed a child together less than a year later, becoming parents to a son named Sidney in Nov. 2022.

Miley Cyrus Drops Jaws in Risqué Dress Made Entirely of Safety Pins on the Grammys Red Carpet

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 6:05pm

Miley Cyrus has proven time and time again that she can't be tamed.

The Disney Channel alum stepped up and stepped out at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, where she hit the red carpet in an outfit made entirely out of what looked like gold safety pins.

The artsy yet risqué garment showed off her toned figure and collection of tattoos, with rows of pins making up a mock collar, giving the illusion of a cold-shoulder style, and circling over her chest to give the appearance of a pair of breastplates for modesty. The pins were linked together to create an edgy, jagged hemline, and to keep her lower half covered, they formed into what looked like a looped belt.

She paired the bold look with yellow and gold stilettos and wore her hair in a voluminous feathered style, keeping her makeup neutral.

Cyrus garnered six nominations this year, up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Flowers," Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Endless Summer Vacation, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Thousand Miles" with Brandi Carlile.

Cyrus was quickly crowned the winner for Best Pop Solo Performance, and she even changed her outfit before going on stage to make her acceptance speech.

The "Used To Be Young" singer slipped into a glittering black jumpsuit to accept the award, which was presented to her by none other than Mariah Carey. Cyrus' second outfit featured a halter-style neckline with a plunging cutout, though she was still rocking the super teased hairstyle that she sported on the red carpet.

Cyrus' godmother, Dolly Parton, is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for "The Last Thing on My Mind" this year, and fans are excited to see the two reunite for the occasion.

The "Jolene" songstress previously expressed her pride in the younger artist's nominations, hoping for her to "win as many as she can."

In fact, with how big "Flowers" was this year, Parton hopes to see her sweep her categories, though she'll "be happy for her with whatever she does win.”

In an interview with People, she fawned over the "Jaded" singer and her accomplishments, adding, “She's my little sweetheart. You know? My little goddaughter, so I feel very close to her.”

But, like all family, she's not afraid to take a little dig at her, either, once roasting her for her cooking abilities. "I doubt I’d eat much of anything that Miley cooks ‘cause it would have no taste," joked Parton. "Even if she cooked me something, I’m sure I’d have to doctor it up a little for myself. I would have to have some bacon grease."

Paris Jackson Owns the Grammys Red Carpet in Little Black Gown With Daring Cutout and Thigh-High Slit

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 5:55pm

Paris Jackson turned the 2024 Grammys red carpet into her own personal runway on Sunday, Feb. 4, smoldering at the camera as she posed outside of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The only daughter of the late Michael Jackson, Paris is following in her father's footsteps and has several singles under her belt so far, though she has yet to garner her own nomination from the Recording Academy.

Still, the 25-year-old stepped out in style for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, rocking a little black gown that featured a daring cutout showing off most of her abdomen and a thigh-high slit that put her long left leg on full display, showing off her strappy black heels.

Perhaps even more jaw-dropping than the sultry dress, though, was the fact that her countless tattoos had disappeared for the occasion—a process that the musician gave a sneak peek at on Instagram, showing how she used CoverFX foundation to completely hide the ink normally decorating both arms, her hands, and part of her chest and upper abdomen.

She accessorized with a pair of mismatched earrings, two nose rings, a gold bangle, several rings, and a little black clutch, keeping her blond hair down in loose waves. For glam, she opted for a neutral eye shadow with a swipe of bold mascara and soft pink lip gloss.

Paris is known for rocking bold cutouts and risqué slits, showing off her legs earlier this week in a burnt orange corset dress with a ruffled, asymmetrical skirt and a hip-high slit. In Sept. 2023, she hit another red carpet with her very well-behaved Doberman, where she shined in a glittering, champagne-colored gown with a chest cutout and a thigh-high slit.

Jack Antonoff’s Net Worth From Working With T. Swift and More

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 5:13pm

Jack Antonoff’s net worth has to be astronomical, right? Not only is he an accomplished musician in his own right, as the lead singer of Bleachers and the guitarist and drummer for Fun., but he’s also an extremely successful record producer. Antonoff has earned awards and acclaim for his work on multiple Taylor Swift albums, including 1989, Reputation and Folklore. Oh, and he got married last year to actress Margaret Qualley, who happens to be Andie MacDowell’s daughter. He must be doing something right!

At the 2023 MTV VMAs, Swift called Antonoff “one of my best friends in the world.” She added, “I'm so lucky I've been making music with him since we worked on an album called 1989. We'll continue working together til' 2089."

With all that success, plus close connections to Hollywood royalty, le'ts take a look at Jack Antonoff’s net worth in 2024.

How did Jack Antonoff get his start?

Jack Antonoff has been performing almost his whole life, having attended the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. In November 1998, during his sophomore year in high school, Antonoff formed his first band, Outline. In early 2000, the band released a self-titled EP through a friend’s record label, Lifetime Records. The band ended their time together in 2002.

Antonoff formed another band alongside friend Scott Irby-Ranniar called Steel Train. They recruited two members of Random Task, Evan Winiker and Matthew Goldman, to join them on this endeavor and the band secured a recording deal with Drive-Thru Records. Steel Train found a good deal of success, performing at such high-profile festivals as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Coachella, and on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Show with David Letterman and as the first musical guest on Conan. Their most popular song is arguably 2010’s “Bullet.”

However, it was not until 2008 that Antonoff’s road to super stardom really came into view. He was asked by Nate Ruess to join him and Andrew Dost in forming the new band Fun. Their debut studio album, Aim and Ignite, was released the following year in 2009. But it would be their next album, 2012’s Some Nights, that would produce the band’s first number-one hit single, “We Are Young.” The single put the band on the map and they would go on to win the 2013 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Song of the Year (for “We Are Young”).

2013 also marked the beginning of Antonoff’s highly lucrative collaboration with Taylor Swift as they worked together on the song “Sweeter than Fiction” for the film One Chance. Antonoff’s work with Swift helped to propel him into another level of fame and success, as the partnership has been very fruitful for them both on a critical and financial level.

Antonoff has been a member of several prominent bands: Steel Train, Fun. and Bleachers. Bleachers is the solo project Antonoff launched to great acclaim in 2014 separate from Fun., though he is still a member of both bands. He is also a member of the band Red Hearse, which debuted in 2019.

In addition, he has worked on many albums as a producer and co-writer with well-known artists like Lana Del Rey, Lorde and—most prominently—Taylor Swift. He has collaborated on multiple songs (and albums) with Swift, including on several of her best-selling albums such as 1989, Reputation, Lover, Evermore, Midnights, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version) and Folklore, with Antonoff acting as a producer and oftentimes songwriter alongside the superstar.

How much money does Jack Antonoff make?

Jack Antonoff has not publicly revealed how much money he earns. However, it has been estimated that he earns an average of $2 million annually. Of course, the amount Antonoff makes each year depends on the projects he undertakes and their respective successes.

What does Jack Antonoff do for Taylor Swift?

Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift have been collaborating on music together since 2013, when the two co-wrote and produced the song “Sweeter Than Fiction” for the movie One Chance. Since then, the two have not only formed a strong friendship, they have continued to collaborate professionally as well. Antonoff has co-written and co-produced multiple songs on several of Swift’s best-selling albums, with Antonoff even earning two Grammy Awards for Album of the Year for Swift’s 1989 and Folklore due to his work as a producer on both of the albums.

Antonoff has co-written and co-produced several of Swift’s best-known songs, including “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Getaway Car” and “Dress”.

Antonoff has nothing but praise for his highly successful professional and personal relationship with Swift. In a 2014 birthday post honoring the singer, he wrote, “happy birthday to @taylorswift — an amazing friend and my favorite collaborator. stayed out later than I thought my body could ever handle. it was THAT good a night. ps hope you like the tom waits records....”

What Taylor Swift albums has Jack Antonoff produced?

Jack Antonoff has produced several albums as part of his famed collaboration with friend Taylor Swift. The first of Swift’s albums that Antonoff helped to write and produce was 2014’s 1989. After the massive success of the album, Antonoff has continued to co-write on and produce all of Swift’s albums from Reputation to Midnights. That means the two have collaborated on the following Taylor Swift albums altogether: 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights. In addition, Antonoff has helped Swift with all of her re-recorded Taylor’s Version albums so far, including: Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

In addition to his co-writing and producing help on Swift’s albums, one of Antonoff’s past romantic relationships even inspired one of Swift’s songs. Antonoff was in a longterm relationship with Girls star and creator Lena Dunham from 2012 until 2017 and their bond inspired the song “You Are in Love,” according to the blonde phenomenon.

When referring to the line “You are my best friend” from the song, Swift explained, "Yeah. I’ve never had that, so I wrote that song about things that Lena has told me about her and Jack. That’s just basically stuff she’s told me."

Which artists does Jack Antonoff produce for besides Taylor Swift?

While Jack Antonoff’s most famous producing work may be for his friend Taylor Swift, he’s actually a highly sought after music and record producer. In fact, as of the end of 2022, Antonoff had produced around 300 songs in total. Of course, Antonoff has produced music for his own bands, Steel Train, Fun., Bleachers and Red Hearse.

Other prominent artists Antonoff has produced music for include:

Carly Rae JepsenLordeLana Del ReyKevin AbstractSt. Vincent, ClairoFifth HarmonyBrooke CandyHow to Dress WellSiaSam DewChristina PerriThe 1975RZAGrimesFlorence + The MachineThe ChicksSt. LuciaBrittany HowardPhoebe BridgersWeyes BloodH.E.R.Diana RossTame ImpalaFKA twigs

It would appear Antonoff is adding new collaborators all the time, so who knows what new faces will be added to that list very soon!

In addition to his work as a producer, Antonoff has also written and co-written songs for many notable artists, including a lot of the names listed above. He famously co-wrote Sara Bareilles’s hit 2013 song “Brave” as well as “Chasing the Sun,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu” and “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” Rachel Platten’s “Stand by You” and Tegan and Sara’s “How Come You Don’t Want Me” —just to name a few!

How much does Jack Antonoff make touring?

Jack Antonoff has not revealed how much money he makes touring with his multiple bands, Bleachers, Fun. and Red Hearse. However, it has been widely reported that the majority of musicians do make most of their money from touring versus from album sales. But as Antonoff is a highly successful songwriter and record producer with multiple collaborations with other prominent artists, in addition to his success as a musician, he may earn more from music sales than the average artist due to those other sources of income.

Interestingly enough, Antonoff has been openly critical of the touring industry and music venues. In November 2022, the Bleachers frontman tweeted, “While we are having the discussion can venues simply stop taxing merch of artists? This is literally the only way you make money when you start out touring. The more we make it tenable for young and small artists to make a living on the road the more great music we will get. Touring is one of the most honest ways to make a living. Some of the hardest and most heartfelt work you can do. So why must [they] f— artist[s] so hard?”

He continued, “[Simple] solutions, stop taxing merch, stop lying to artists about costs of putting on shows, include artists in more areas of revenue. The stories I could tell from my years of touring are bananas. Young artists on tour are the last to see any money.”

How many Grammys has Jack Antonoff won?

As of this writing, Jack Antonoff has won 8 Grammys out of 24 nominations. He is currently nominated for 6 Grammys for the upcoming 66th Grammy Awards which will take place on Feb.4, 2024.

Dua Lipa's Net Worth In 2024 Is So High, It May as Well Be Levitating

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 3:49pm

Dua Lipa's net worth in 2024 comes from hard work, even when she could coast her current success: She's a pop star, a movie star, a model and an icon.

Lipa told The New York Times that her parents' struggles as immigrants to the U.K. from Kosovo influence her work ethic. "What's maybe the immigrant mentality … this thing I have in my head where I know that, if I don't work hard enough, the rug could just be pulled from under my feet," she said.

Part of that work ethic is keeping immaculate records and schedules to maintain her sanity.

"I don't even want to show you my phone [calendar], because I'm embarrassed about it, but it's really down to the minute: where I'm going, what I'm doing: 'Wake up, glam, prep for podcast,'" Lipa said. "I have to watch Succession, so I’ve got to schedule that."

She added that she even schedules her showers, and on the rare occasion that she's behind schedule, she is apologetic.

"If she's two minutes late—literally, if it's 12:02—there's a text: 'Sorry, running five minutes late,'" Mark Ronson, who worked with Lipa on "Dance the Night" from Barbie, told The New York Times. "That's not superstar behavior, you know? She still works with the mindset that she hasn't [made it] yet."

We love a Type A, humble queen. Find out Dua Lipa's net worth and how she made it.

How did Dua Lipa become famous?

Dua Lipa was born in London on Aug. 22, 1995, to Anisa and Dukagjin Lipa. She had music in her blood: Father Dukagjin is the former singer of the Kosovan rock band Oda, and she credits him for helping her pursue her music career from a young age.

"My father was a musician, so I've always been really inspired by him and living in a really musical household," she told Glamour U.K. "Those are the things that really inspired me and I feel like it was inevitable to fall into this as a career. My parents listened to a lot of Bowie, Bob Dylan, The Stereophonics and StingThe Police, Radiohead."

Her family moved to Kosovo when she was 11, and four years later, she moved back to London solo. She began performing covers on YouTube when she was 15 years old to use "as a portfolio," she explained, rather than hoping to go viral. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, a prestigious performing arts academy that counts Nicholas Hoult, Emma "Baby Spice" BuntonRita Ora, Leona Lewis and the late Amy Winehouse among its alumni.

When Lipa turned 18, she signed a record deal with Warner Music. She became a star in Europe, Australia and New Zealand with her second single, "Be the One," in 2015, but it would be two years before she charted stateside with "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)," which peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Top 40. Her debut album, Dua Lipa, dropped in June 2017, and her hit "New Rules" propelled her to full-on pop stardom, and her 2020 follow-up, Future Nostalgia, sent her star soaring into the stratosphere.

What also helps Lipa remain successful is that she has a sense of humor about herself. After her dancing became a meme, she got to work on her moves, but still paid homage to said meme in her live shows:

And Lipa's done it all without selling her personal life to her fans (i.e., with Easter eggs, hidden messages in lyrics and other Taylor Swift methods), which she says is deliberate, though she never mentioned Swift by name.

"I think it’s a marketing tool: How confessional can you be?" Lipa told The New York Times. "I also don't put so much of my life out there for people to dig into the music in this weird, analytical way."

While Demi Moore and Bruce Willis reunited to celebrate their youngest daughter Tallulah's 30th birthday on Feb. 3, all three of their daughters also had some sibling bonding time by themselves, getting glammed up for a cute photo.

On her special day, Tallulah marked the occasion by sharing a photo of herself with older sisters Scout and Rumer on her Instagram feed with the sweet caption, "willis girlies 😙." In the photo, each of the sisters rocked a different hair color, with Tallulah's an orange-red color, while Scout contrasted Rumer's blond with her dark brown.

Tallulah crouched in the bottom corner of the image, wearing some sort of fuzzy top, while Rumer wore a strappy black outfit that criss-crossed at the front, and Scout had on a similarly elegant black ensemble. As they stared into the camera together, the resemblance between the sisters was obvious.

14 Phrases That Signal a Person's Unhappy, According to Psychologists

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 3:20pm

Unhappiness is an uncomfortable feeling—whether it’s for a few minutes during a hard day or a few months after a negative life event has taken place. But at times, it might feel even more uncomfortable (and could make you feel powerless) to watch a friend, partner or loved one be unhappy. You know that something isn’t quite right with them, but you haven’t seen crystal clear signals that they’re miserable either.

That’s why it can be helpful to be on the lookout for phrases they might say that could signal their unhappiness.

Related: 50 Positive Affirmations To Boost Your Confidence (And Change Your Life)

What Exactly Is Unhappiness?

Aura De Los Santos, clinical psychologist, M.A., defines unhappiness as a constant state of sadness, worry and experiencing a feeling that something is missing in life.

“Unhappiness is the inability to feel happiness because there seems to be no reason to be happy,” De Los Santos explains. “What people feel and what their external environment offers them seems to be insufficient for them to reach the state of happiness.”

Hannah Yang, Psy.D.
, founder of Balanced Awakening, says that unhappiness can be characterized by viewing the world from a lens of pessimism or negativity.

“Unhappiness tends to be associated with a more chronic emotional state that can encompass feelings of sadness, hurt, hopelessness or even anger,” Dr. Yang observes. “I tend to think of unhappiness as a state someone gets ‘stuck’ in when they experience negative emotional states for a long period of time. Being ‘stuck’ in these negative emotional states tends to then skew the person’s day-to-day perceptions and worldview so that the person’s focus is on what’s going wrong in their life, what’s wrong with the world or anything else deemed to be negative.”

Related: Is Someone You Love Dealing With Anxiety? Here Are 4 Actionable Ways to Help Them

What Are Some Things That Might Make Someone Unhappy?

De Los Santos outlines some of the things that might make a person unhappy. They include:

  • Comparing their life to everyone else’s
  • Feeling that they haven’t gotten what they deserve
  • Opinions others may have of them
  • Only seeing the negative aspect of any situation

Dr. Yang agrees that there are several things that can trigger a cycle of unhappiness. She says, “In adulthood, some common triggers are chronic stress, such as continuing to go to a job that is high stress or having extreme caregiving responsibilities with not enough support or suffering a loss, such as death of a loved one or loss of identity through a job loss.”

How To Help Someone Who's Unhappy

If you feel that your partner, family member or friend is unhappy, especially if they say any of the phrases ahead, De Los Santos recommends gently, and kindly, approaching them and asking for more information about the phrase they said.

Listening to others is a way for them to express themselves so they feel less alone and that someone is showing them importance,” she adds.

To potentially pull someone out of a funk, Dr. Yang suggests taking the person out to do a fun activity together, such as taking a walk in nature or going dancing. “One of the best treatments for depression, which is similar to unhappiness but follows an entirely different diagnostic system of its own, is behavioral activation,” Dr. Yang says. “Behavioral activation is simply about having more positive experiences in day-to-day life. They are having so few positive and joyful experiences in life that they are stuck in the unhappiness cycle.”

As touched upon, there are key differences between general unhappiness and diagnosable depression. If you sense that a friend or a loved one is depressed, talk to them, encourage them to pursue therapy and direct them to their doctor or a psychiatrist for any medical treatments and/or a formal diagnosis.

14 Phrases That Signal a Person's Unhappy1. “I feel like I’ll never be able to achieve my dreams.”

De Los Santos says that this phrase is indicative of unhappiness because “something that usually fills others with joy is feeling that they will be able to achieve their dreams and celebrating when they have achieved it.”

2. “I’ll never feel better.”

Dr. Yang says that an unhappy person tends to be stuck in the past, more so than being able to see present and future possibilities. “They tend to project their past experiences onto their future and expect that how they have felt is how they will continue to feel,” she explains.

3. “Why does this always happen to me?”

Dr. Yang says that this phrase indicates that the person is focused on things that aren’t going well for them instead of things that are, “which is an indication of the worldview of someone who is unhappy.”

Related: 10 Ways To Become Someone Who Avoids Negativity, According to Psychologists

4. “I have the feeling that things are going to go wrong.”

This phrase shows that a person is unhappy because, according to De Los Santos, they’re always thinking that things are going to go wrong—this doesn’t give them space to imagine a positive outcome, which ultimately can impact a person’s state of happiness.

5. “Nothing interests me.”

“Unhappy people tend to feel a lack of engagement in activities that could bring them the experience of more positive emotions,” Dr. Yang says. “A chronic lack of engagement or interest in things indicates a state of unhappiness.”

Related: 10 Simple Tips To Have Your Biggest Glow-Up in 2024, According to Life Coaches

6. “I feel that others don’t accept me for who I am.”

De Los Santos says that when we feel that we are not accepted by others, we experience sadness and worry, explaining, “Something that generates a lot of happiness is to feel that others accept us for who we are."

7. “Everyone around me is doing better than me.”

“Thinking that others are always better than you is a symptom of unhappiness because people see themselves as inferior to others, that everyone is doing better and that they are stagnant, which generates dissatisfaction,” De Los Santos explains.

8. “I don’t contribute anything to others’ lives.”

De Los Santos says that this is a phrase that reflects unhappiness because people feel that they don’t have some kind of value, and this can make them feel bad about themselves.

9. “I could never have that.”

“An unhappy person tends to have a low opinion of themselves mixed with a lack of drive to go after things in life, like passion or goals,” Dr. Yang shares. “That can fuel a belief that perhaps they are unworthy of having something nice or positive in life.”

10. “What I’m going through isn’t fair.”

“When a person feels that what they’re going through isn’t fair and that they don’t deserve it, they are experiencing unhappiness,” De Los Santos explains. “It’s normal to feel that from time to time, but it’s also a sign that we are not happy.”

11. “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do that.”

Typically, an unhappy person usually lacks the belief that they deserve something, plus the drive to get there, Dr. Yang says.

“If they see someone doing something cool, that perhaps took some work to get there, they are more likely to think that they don’t deserve it plus the drive to do it isn’t present,” she explains.

12. “I’m not comfortable with who I am.”

“When someone expresses not feeling comfortable with their self-concept or self-image, it’s a sign that they feel unhappy,” De Los Santos shares. “Unhappy people may not feel comfortable with who they are, which can affect other areas of their life.”

13. “Nothing ever seems to work out for me.”

Dr. Yang says that this is another phrase that indicates that the person has their focus on all the things they feel aren’t going well versus the things that are.

14. “I don’t care.”

If a person says this phrase multiple times in response to questions or circumstances, it can indicate a sense of indifference.

“Someone who is unhappy is missing that ‘zest’ for life that fuels having preferences and expressing those preferences,” Dr. Yang says.

Patrick Mahomes' Father Pat Arrested for DWI Ahead of Super Bowl

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 3:03pm

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested in Tyler, Texas, on suspicion of DWI, Parade can confirm.

Local media outlets reported Sunday afternoon that Mahomes Sr., 53, was held at Smith County Jail following the arrest. According to public record, the Tyler Police Department booked him into the facility on Saturday, Feb. 3. His listed charge was driving while intoxicated for the third time or more. Bond was set at $10,000.

Parade reached out to the Tyler Police Department by phone and email on Feb. 4 for comment.

Online jail records indicate Mahomes Sr.’s second DWI arrest was in 2018. Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to the 2018 charges in February 2019, and was sentenced to 40 days in county jail.

The arrest and reported DWI charges come just days before Mahomes Sr.’s son is due to play against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl on Feb. 11. This will be the younger Mahomes’ fourth time playing in a Super Bowl in just six NFL seasons as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. It’s also the team’s fourth Super Bowl appearance in just five years.

The quarterback’s father, a former professional baseball pitcher, has been visible at Chiefs games throughout this NFL season. He’s weighed in on the whirlwind romance between pop star Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, whose relationship has generated a significant amount of attention for the NFL since Swift began attending Chiefs games last fall.

The elder Mahomes has said Kelce is “like another son to me.” After meeting Swift for the first time, he described the “Blank Space” singer as being “down to Earth” and “very nice and genuine.”

“She was genuine every time I've hung out with her,” Mahomes Sr. said in a TikTok video last month. "She just acts like a normal person."

Parade reached out to the Chiefs for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Taylor Swift Fans Are Convinced She's Announcing 'Reputation TV' at the Grammys

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 2:35pm

Along with the singer's numerous Grammy nominations, Taylor Swift's devoted fans are hyped up for the 2024 Grammys on Sunday, Feb. 4—because they're almost certain she's finally announcing a long-awaited project: Reputation (Taylor's Version).

A Swiftie took to TikTok on the morning of Feb. 4 to talk about a subtle change in Swift's social media accounts, calling it a "Swiftie emergency," as the "Gorgeous" singer happened to change her profile picture to a black-and-white image from the Midnights album photoshoot.

While it might seem inconsequential to some, Swift has proven to be meticulous with her planning and planting Easter eggs for her fans to find, and this social media move feels like it could be a sign.

The fan on TikTok, whose username is @alexantonides, said, "We all know what this means. Reputation (Taylor's Version) is imminent...I'm shaking, beyond belief. It's happening." They theorized that Swift could make the announcement during the Grammys award show, or even on Feb. 5.

Many other fans were equally convinced that the announcement would come in the next few days, with one referencing lyrics of the song "...Ready For It?" from the original Reputation album, writing, "BABY LET THE GAMES BEGIN."

"I USUALLY THINK WE'RE BEING DELULU BUT I REALLY THINK THIS IS IT," read a top-liked comment, referring to the many theories going around over the past few months about when the album would be announced.

"I THOUGHT I WAS READY BUT NOW OM SCARED," said a nervous fan, while another cheered, "NO EXPLANATION JUST REPUTATION."

Someone else further analyzed the profile picture, wondering if it hinted at a surprise drop of Swift's album at a certain time: "BLACK AND WHITE PIC FROM MIDNIGHTS = REP TV OUT AT MIDNIGHT ??????"

Despite the many theories still swirling about Reputation (Taylor's Version), only time will tell what the "Mastermind" singer is planning for the new album.

Why Sportscaster Erin Andrews Is ‘Beyond Grateful’ to Taylor Swift

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 2:27pm

Sportscaster Erin Andrews is backing Taylor Swift against the “dads, Brads and Chads” upset over the “Blank Space” singer’s appearance on NFL broadcasts—but she’s especially “grateful” to Swift for supporting women and small businesses.

"You want me to hate her? I’m not gonna do it,” Andrews said on a Feb. 1 episode of Calm Down, the podcast she cohosts with sports commentator Charissa Thompson. “I’ve always loved her, and I love her freaking more now. And I just am so appreciative of her.”

Swift’s appearance at NFL games has generated mixed reactions since she began attending games to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, last fall. While Swifties love seeing Swift in NFL stadiums, there are many football fans who are frustrated with the NFL for panning over to her box during game-day broadcasts for reaction shots.

The latest surge in frustration came after the Jan. 28 AFC Championship game, when Swift greeted Kelce on the field at M&T Bank Stadium following the Chiefs’ victory over the Baltimore Ravens. As broadcasters focused on the couple’s sweet moment on the field, fans quickly took note of the jewelry Swift was sporting—including a Chiefs necklace sold by Andrews’ line of jewelry.

Andrews pointed to the necklace’s $45 price tag as an example of Swift “being relatable” when the “Lover” songstress could afford to wear more expensive pieces.

“She freaking supports small business, she supports women, and I couldn’t love her more for that,” Andrews told Thompson. “She was so great and gracious, and I am beyond grateful, and I could cry.”

Earlier in the podcast, Andrews mentioned recent comments by Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd, who defended Swift during his The Herd radio show. Cowherd labeled those who dislike seeing Swift at NFL games “insecure men” in a rant that quickly went viral.

Andrews agreed that those who think Swift is “ruining” the NFL should “calm down.”

“How bad is it now that we have young girls that want to watch the NFL?” Andrews asked. “I think it’s freaking awesome.”

Is 3 Hours a Week Enough Exercise? Here's What Trainers Say

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 1:25pm

We all know that fitting in time to exercise is important, but we also know that it definitely isn't always easy (despite what a lot of celebrities with a ton of personal wealth, assistants, maids, nannies and on-call trainers say). Let's face it, most of us aren't training for the Olympics—we just want to feel good and for our clothes to fit. How much exercise can you get away with in a week while remaining healthy? Trainers weigh in.

Related: What Happens to Your Body if You Exercise for 15 Minutes a Day

Is Three Hours a Week Enough Exercise?

For most normal people, yes, three hours a week is fine—but that all depends on what your goals are.

"Three hours a week of exercise is sufficient if your goal is to keep moving and maintain one’s physical state," Jenny Liebl, CPT, and senior content director at the International Sports Sciences Association, tells us. "And, let’s face it, for some people, three hours a week is all they can fit in or muster up! That is a perfectly realistic goal for exercise duration."

Cara D'Orazio, CPT, founder, owner and fitness instructor at C.G.M. Fitness, says that if you're exercising in your target heart rate zone for half an hour five times per week, "It would be just enough to stay healthy and in shape combined with the correct diet. This is equivalent to about two and a half hours per week." By those metrics, three hours would be even better, if only by a little bit!

Related: The Best Cardio Workouts

What's the Minimum Amount of Exercise Someone Can Get Away With Each Week and Still Be Healthy?

Make no mistake: Even a little something is better than nothing at all.

"I want to be clear, any exercise is good and counts towards your health," says Eric Cohen, CrossFit L1 trainer and competitive CrossFit athlete. "I spend a lot of time convincing people that a 15-minute walk or video class counts. Do it. Don't think that if you don't have 30 or 60 minutes to work out, it's just not worth it. It is."

"If you can get in four to five 30-minute walks per week, you'll build muscle and improve your cardio-respiratory system," Cohen adds. "Done regularly, this routine will improve many if not all of your biomarkers such as blood pressure and AC1."

Marshall Weber, CPT, and owner of Jack City Fitness, says most people can get away with three days of exercise per week, but you should aim for a bit more if possible.

"This is the least you would want to work out a week and still be able to maintain your health," he explains. "If you work out less, you won't be making a big difference, and hopefully you find time to work out more than three days a week to reach your fitness goals."

Related: How Many Steps You Really Need to Take a Day to Lose Weight

Is Three Hours a Week of Exercise Enough to Lose Weight?

D'Orazio says that it's possible to lose weight by exercising three hours per week, but there are some factors to consider.

"If you can stay in [your] target heart rate zone, weight loss is possible with three hours of exercise per week! However, you need to eat the appropriate amount of calories for your weight," she advises. "Staying in [your] target heart rate zone for a half hour six days per week and eating the right amount of calories will create the deficit needed to potentially lose weight."

If you're not sure how many calories you need to consume to stay healthy during your weight loss journey, talk to your doctor—they know you best.

Related: The No. 1 Workout Mistake That's Sabotaging Your Weight Loss

Is Three Hours a Week of Exercise Enough to Build Muscle and Improve Strength?

Put simply, it depends.

"If someone is trying to build strength, I would say three hours a week of exercise both is and is not sufficient," explains Josh York, CPT, founder and CEO of GYMGUYZ. "How you build strength depends on your age, your activity level and the types of exercise you are doing. Three hours a week can be enough for some people, but it might not be enough for everyone."

Strength and muscle gain goals typically require more training volume and, in the case of strength, a relatively high training intensity. These two training variables require a decent amount of training time each week! For this reason, three hours per week of exercise is likely not sufficient to see measurable strength or size gains.

Weber says that to get those gains, you'll want to up your time to at least five hours per week of strength training.

That said, Pruitt says it is possible, with a few caveats.

"Three hours a week can be effective, particularly if focused on targeted strength training and progressive overload," he says. "However, muscle gains also heavily depend on proper nutrition, recovery and the intensity of workouts."

Related: Personal Trainers' Favorite Phrases to Help Get You Through a Tough Workout

Are There Any Exercises That Can Cut the Time Required to Work Out?

Weber says that in theory, this is doable, but it may not be too enjoyable.

"Doing supersets can cut your workout time down. To perform these, you need to be set up to do two different strength exercises, and you perform them in succession without taking a break," he explained. "If you did these throughout your whole workout, you would cut your workout time in half, but would be completely exhausted."

If you're looking for a fast workout option that doesn't require equipment or a gym membership, you're in luck.

Cohen recommends going for a walk or run (depending on your fitness level) and stopping every two minutes to do five pushups and 10 squats. This way, he says, "You'll get the benefits of both resistance training and aerobic training."

Trevor Noah's Net Worth From 'The Daily Show' and What He Gets Paid for Hosting the Grammys

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 1:03pm

Trevor Noah is a comedian and political commentator known in the U.S. for hosting The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022. He’s also done stand-up tours around the world, which he’s focusing on now in addition to his new podcast.

Noah’s had a great deal of success from a young age, landing The Daily Show and a seven-figure contract deal at just 31 years old. Although he still has yet to turn 40, he can already count himself among the richest comedians in the world.

Here’s a look at how much Trevor Noah has made over the years and his total net worth in 2024.

How did Trevor Noah get his start?

Trevor Noah started out with small, public-facing gigs in his home country of South Africa, hosting an educational show on local TV and the radio show Noah’s Ark. When he was 22, he performed stand-up at a nightclub on a dare from his friends, which turned into a string of comedy club performances and TV roles as his popularity grew.

“I always felt an innate joy making people laugh,” Noah said in an interview with Harvard Business Review. “I always loved performing. And then somebody paid me to do it—as a profession. But I loved it before I earned any money, so I think it was always going to be my natural course.”

By the late 2000s Noah was selling out comedy shows, and in the early 2010s he hosted his first talk show, Tonight with Trevor Noah. In 2012, he decided to see if he could replicate that success in the U.S.

“South Africa is a wonderful place to begin a comedy career, but it’s a small country. At the time we’re talking about—though it’s changed dramatically in the years since—there was only so much you could do, only so many spaces to perform,” he said. “My goal was to do as much comedy as I could, and I’d always dreamed of performing elsewhere in the world. So I went to Australia, the U.K., Europe. But the one place that has a truly sustainable stand-up comedy market is the United States. It’s where you can do comedy full time, as your job and as your life.”

What is Trevor Noah's net worth in 2024?

Trevor Noah has an estimated net worth of $100 million in 2024, according to Celebrity Net Worth. He earned a large portion of it from his work on The Daily Show, but has also racked up millions from various comedy tours and specials, real-estate flips, his bestselling memoir and his new podcast on Spotify.

And a good chunk of his money predated his professional success in the United States. Long story short: He’s been rich for awhile.

“People don’t understand that I came to America from a country where I was really successful,” Noah told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019. “And I’m proud of South Africa because that’s where I made my fortune. I had my homes and my cars and my nice things, and my country gave that to me. So I wasn’t escaping anything. I’m here because I want to be here.”

What did Trevor Noah make at The Daily Show?

When Trevor Noah succeeded Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show in 2015, it surprised a lot of people—including him. He was extremely young compared to peers in similar positions and only a few years into his American comedy career.

Perhaps this is why he started out with a salary between $5 and $8 million per season, much lower than Stewart’s $25 million salary.

“I remember I said, ‘I’ll have to figure out how I’ll manage with taking a pay cut,’ and they were like, ‘What do you mean a pay cut? You’re going to become host of The Daily Show,” Noah told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I go, ‘Yes, and I know this is hard for an American to process, but you can be very successful working in the rest of the world. Please don’t think I’m belittling you. … I just have to make sure I’m not giving up the world I’ve built for myself for something that somebody else controls.'”

Despite taking a pay cut, it speaks to Noah’s success that by 2017 he was able to negotiate a new contract with a reported salary of $16 million, which he made every season until he exited the show in 2022.

Does Trevor Noah have any Emmys?

Noah has been nominated for 18 total Emmy Awards and won two. In 2023, he won for Outstanding Talk Series for his work on The Daily Show. He also won in 2017 for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series, for The Daily Show - Between the Scenes.

How much did Trevor Noah get paid for his memoir?

Trevor Noah’s memoir, Born a Crime, was published in 2016 and recounts his childhood as the son of an interracial couple in South Africa—something that was illegal under apartheid. The book became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and scored Noah a seven-figure deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter, although the exact figure is unknown.

What does Trevor Noah make for hosting the Grammys?

Noah hosted the Grammys in 2021, 2022, 2023 and is set to host this year as well. While his exact pay isn’t known, Forbes reported in 2017 that Grammy hosts are paid at least $5,000, per SAG-AFTRA rules, but probably make closer to $20,000.

This amount may be peanuts to someone like Noah with a $100 million net worth, but he clearly believes it to be worthwhile as he prepares to host the music awards show for the fourth consecutive time.

What's Trevor Noah doing now?

Noah was prolific for his stand-up shows before ever stepping foot on The Daily Show set and continues to perform today. He’s currently making his way across the U.S. (with pit stops in the UAE and Bahrain) for his Off the Record tour, which wraps up in L.A. in May.

Aside from touring, Noah’s also taken up the mantle of podcast host with his new deep-dive interview show on Spotify, titled What Now? With Trevor Noah.

In an interview with Variety, he explained that the show would feature famous and non-famous people alike and focus on long-form, engaging discussions.

“I’m not going to create an echo chamber… It’s a space for dynamic conversations,” he said. “There’s no denying that many of us, and I mean on many levels—creators, public figures and individuals—have created echo chambers in their lives. We cease to have conversations with people we don’t agree with. We don’t interrogate our own ideas because we’ve grown comfortable with them. That limits our ability to think and grow over time and create connections with other people.”

In comparison with his experience on The Daily Show, Noah likes that What Now? isn’t beholden to commercial breaks or time limits. He’s also not afraid to explore serious topics, and doesn’t feel the need to force the comedy aspect of his content.

“I always find myself laughing with a person,” he said. “That doesn’t mean the conversations are frivolous or trite. When I was growing up [in] South Africa, there were terrible times but I don’t remember a time when we weren’t laughing… That’s the paradox of living.”

Kylie Kelce Shares Plans for Husband Jason’s ‘New Hobbies’ After NFL Retirement

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 12:47pm

Jason Kelce hasn’t announced a final decision on his NFL retirement timeline just yet, but his wife Kylie recently hinted at some of the tasks she hopes he’ll embrace when the time comes.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Kylie said she believes her husband will find success in “whatever he does” next.

“I’m not just saying that because I’m his wife,” she said, adding that Jason’s personality gives her confidence in his ability to succeed.

When he does decide to retire, Kylie has some ideas for how he can spend his free time.

“I think that he’ll have enough time on his hands to sort of pick up some new hobbies,” she told Good Morning America in an interview clip airing Feb. 3. “Maybe he’ll be the new breakfast guy.”

Jason, 36, has played with the Philadelphia Eagles since he was drafted by the team in 2011. The center fueled retirement rumors after the Eagles’ NFL season ended last month when he reportedly told his teammates he wouldn’t be returning.

Jason walked back those comments days later while speaking on New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Jason told Travis he hadn’t made any announcement “on purpose” following the Eagles’ Jan. 15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and still wasn’t sure what his immediate future would look like.

When he does make a decision about his future in football, Jason said he will make an announcement “in a way that’s definitive and pays a lot of respect” to the people who “have meant a lot to me and led to the career I have."

Since his team’s season ended, Jason has spent some of his free time cheering on his brother as the Chiefs advanced in the NFL playoffs. While both Kelce brothers made it to the Super Bowl in 2023—marking the first time two brothers competed in the big game on opposing teams—Travis is the only one who made it to the final game of the NFL season this year.

Jason is expected to join other members of the Kelce family at the Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 to cheer for Travis at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium.

Taraji P. Henson, Robert Downey Jr., Julianne Moore and More Attempt Performance of Taylor Swift's 'Blank Space'

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 12:15pm

As popular as Taylor Swift has been over the past year, it might be surprising that many celebrities aren't familiar with her music. Case and point: Taraji P. HensonRobert Downey Jr.Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, Justin H. MinColman DomingoLily Gladstone and more participated in a performance of the pop superstar's 2014 track, "Blank Space."

On Saturday, Feb. 3, W Magazine published a "lyrical Improv" YouTube video featuring a slew of celebs attempting to sing/dramatically read Swift's lyrics.

Jodie Foster prefaced her contribution with a disclaimer, confessing, "You know I don't know a single Taylor Swift song." (Despite her claim, Foster later called out an incorrect lyric on the sheet.)

When asked if he knew "Blank Space,'"Min replied, "Oh, of course, who doesn't know that song?"

"You'd be surprised," someone off-camera said, to which Min declared, "That's blasphemy!"

"I'mma do my best, Taylor!" Henson promised.

The result is highly satisfying—even if it's painfully obvious which celebs don't know the song. Check it out!

When it came to the bridge, Min, Phoebe Dynevor and Talia Ryder totally carried. Honorable mentions go to Henson, Gladstone and Domingo for knowing the tune to "Blank Space" as well.

YouTube users reacted in the comments, with one person writing, "I didn't know that Phoebe Dynevor could sing like that! It was nice!"

Another person commented, "That was so fun, I love this segment!"

Meanwhile, someone else begged, "PLEASE RELEASE THE FULL TALIA ONE PLEASE."

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis Reunite to Celebrate Daughter Tallulah's 30th Birthday

Sun, 02/04/2024 - 11:42am

Demi Moore and her ex-husband Bruce Willis got together for a special occasion, as their youngest daughter Tallulah turned 30.

The Ghost actress shared a snap of herself with her ex-husband and the birthday girl on Instagram, with the trio standing outside while smiling in sunny Los Angeles, Calif. They all wore casual clothes as they hung out together, with both Moore and Tallulah rocking sunglasses while Willis had on a baseball cap to block out the sun.

Moore posted the snap—along with one of herself, daughters Tallulah and Scout, and Tallulah's partner, Justin Acee, all cuddled up—on Instagram on Feb. 3, captioning it, "Showering our @buuski with love today on her 30th birthday ♥️." Willis and Moore also share daughter Rumer, but she was not in the photos.

A video posted to Moore's Instagram Stories revealed that they also went to a nice restaurant to celebrate the big day, with the meal ending with a flashy dessert.

Many were happy to see the family together, with comments like, "What a beautiful family!! ❤️🌷," and "Such a special family ❤️happy birthday."

Others were happy to get an update with Willis, with one saying, "Thanks for this photo. Haven't seen Bruce in such a long time.😍," while another commented, "🔥looking great Bruce🔥Love❤️."

Moore recently shared some poignant words on how to care for someone in your family dealing with a health battle like Willis'. The family announced that he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in early 2023.

"I think the most important thing I could share is just to meet them where they’re at," she said on a radio show. "When you let go of who they’ve been, or who you think they [should be], or who even you would like them to be, you can then really stay in the present and take in the joy and the love that is present and there for all that they are, not all that they’re not.”

While Moore and Willis divorced in 2000, the former couple has appeared very amicable over the years, especially throughout the family's current crisis, with the whole family, including Willis' wife Emma Heming Willis and their two daughters, spending Thanksgiving together last year.
