Who Got Voted Off ‘Survivor 50’ Tonight? Plus, MrBeast’s Game-Changing Twist Explained

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 9:00pm

Since we saw the Survivor 50 trailer last December, there's been one particular question that's been lingering on the minds of fans for the past four months. Why is MrBeast in Fiji, and what does he have in that briefcase? Finally, in this week's episode, the mystery was resolved, as the legendary YouTuber crashed this season's auction with an enigmatic offer no one could refuse. But the mere fear of the unknown got these group of returning players spun around, producing the most chaotic afternoon of the game to date. And that pandemonium spilled into the evening, as the fires of Tribal Council had one particular player feeling the heat, as they made one decision that would change their fate — and the game — forever.

Here's our spoiler-filled recap of tonight's episode of Survivor 50, including who went home and the new advantage MrBeast brought into the game.

Who got voted off on Survivor 50 tonight? Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick on 'Survivor 50'

Robert Voets/CBS

Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick

Sixteen years have passed since Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick last played Survivor. And the Palau standout was adamant to show that becoming one of the most popular players of all time in her first season was not her reality TV zenith. Unfortunately, the woman who was once labeled as a "Survivor jinx" was having some big strokes of bad luck the first half of the season, as the majority alliance she had formed on her initial tribe was all taken out in a variety of circumstances.

Luckily, Stephenie was able to adapt, finding a new haven among some of the more old-school-minded players like Jonathan Young and Joe Hunter. But a large reason why Stephenie was done in actually lies at the feet of the old-schooler she was most familiar with coming in: Cirie Fields. After playing Snake in the Grass and Traitors together, the six-time player could easily clock whenever Stephenie was lying. So when she attempted to go to Cirie, claiming that her number one Ozzy Lusth was on the chopping block, Cirie turned her sights on Stephenie for not being faithful.

It also didn't help that Rick Devens blew up Tribal Council in the first few seconds, calling out that Jonathan and Stephenie were conspiring to get out Ozzy. Even more havoc ensued when the "MrBeast Super Beware Advantage" caused any plans against Rick to scuttle. But whether a flip of a coin had anything to do with Stephenie's departure, her fate was as sealed as a briefcase. And, while this was the third time she had been voted out across nearly 100 days of playing Survivor, she surprisingly said this one hurt the most.

Were any idols or advantages found or played on Survivor 50 tonight?

Oh, absolutely! Rick was the first-ever recipient of the "MrBeast Super Beware Advantage," which we'll get into below. And, in a moment of desperation, Stephenie chose to play the "Steal-a-Vote" she received on a journey. While she was able to grab Rick's vote, it was ultimately for naught, as everyone else voted against her.

What is MrBeast's Survivor twist?

MrBeast first showed up in this week's Survivor episode at the end of the auction. As a consequence for paying for the "comfort" of letters from home, the cast would receive "chaos" in the form of a new twist the YouTuber would unleash on the game that night. At a certain point during the Tribal Council proceedings, Jeff Probst brought in MrBeast, who finally opened the briefcase he had been holding onto the whole day...and it contained quite the prize.

The "MrBeast Super Beware Advantage" was comprised of one simple coin flip that a player would do. If they correctly called what the coin would land on, they would earn three rewards. They would not only be safe from Tribal Council, but they'd also earn an idol they could use in a future round. But arguably the biggest thing worth playing for: The prize money would double to a whopping $2 million. However, if the person failed to call their shot, the pot would remain at $1 million. And they absolutely would not be winning safety, as it would culminate in them getting automatically eliminated from the game, without a vote even occurring.

Feeling on the bottom, and embodying his wife's words to "embrace the spirit of playfulness," he chose to put his fate into his own hands by flipping the coin. And, astoundingly, the 50/50 chance paid off handsomely! Rick won the coin toss, giving him both much-needed immunity and an idol. And, no matter how they felt about him in that moment, everyone patted him on the back for being responsible for doubling the prize pot, something that has only been done once before in Survivor history.

The auction returns...again!

Over the past decade, the Survivor auction has essentially been a relic. While we've seen the old-school staple come back a couple of times in Seasons 45 and 47, it says something that only four of the remaining ten players have ever actually participated in an auction during their time on the show. But everyone was happily surprised to come around the corner on Day 19 and see a very familiar gavel.

Unlike recent instances of the auction, this time had no "new era" bells and whistles attached. Nobody was forced to spend all of their money, and nobody suffered the consequences of losing a vote. There weren't even any advantages that were up for grabs. Instead, players and fans alike were in for a classic Survivor auction, full of plenty of foods for the starving competitors to gorge themselves on.

Perhaps the biggest twist to the auction came in this "comfort vs. chaos" theme that Probst teased from the beginning. A couple of items involved two people performing an uncomfortable task to earn their prize. For instance, Aubry Bracco had to down two grubs in two minutes to earn cookies and milk for her and Rizo Velovic. Jonathan, on the other hand, had to eat a sea slug in the same amount of time solely to let Ozzy Lusth get to eat friend chicken and mashed potatoes. No matter what, it's safe to say nobody was hungry by the end of the proceedings!

1984 Hit Single Ranked 'Best Motivational Song' of All Time Was Originally Written for a No. 1 Movie

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 8:47pm

In 1984, Glenn Frey was already one of the most famous musicians in the world...as a member of the Eagles. As a solo artist, on the other hand, Frey was yet to have a breakout hit. Thankfully, the year's most popular movie (and an Academy Award-winning songwriter) changed all that.

The producers of the 1984 comedy blockbuster Beverly Hills Cop made a smart choice when they called on Keith Forsey to conjure up a hit song for their movie, which famously starred Eddie Murphy. Former drummer Forsey had already co-written "Flashdance...What a Feeling" for the movie Flashdance, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1984.

With Forsey and fellow songwriter Harold Faltermeyer in place, the producers just needed a singer. According to American Songwriter, after inviting Frey to an advance screening of Beverly Hills Cop, they sent him a demo of "The Heat Is On." The rest is music history.

"The Heat Is On" became the breakout hit from The Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Decades later, it's still considered one of the biggest hits of Frey's solo career. The bestselling track was even ranked the #1 "Best Motivational Song" by Time Out New York.

Indeed, the lyrics — along with that "blaring saxophone riff" — definitely get the "adrenaline going," as Time Out put it:

"The heat is on, on the street / Inside your head, on every beat / And the beat's alive deep inside / The pressure's high just to stay alive / 'Cause the heat is on"

Beverly Hills Cop, meanwhile, was the highest-grossing movie of 1984 in the U.S.

Glenn Frey didn't think he would get a song in 'Beverly Hills Cop'

As Frey explained during a 2012 interview with Tavis Smiley, while he was definitely in need of a hit when "The Heat Is On" came along, the caliber of talented individuals who showed up to the advance screening of Beverly Hills Cop was so intimidating he didn't think he had a chance.

"The Eagles are broke up and it's in the middle '80s, and Irving Azoff, my manager, calls me up and said, 'Glenn, you got to come to a screening. We're going to show this movie, this Eddie Murphy movie. It's going to be huge. You've got to get a song in it. Come on,'" Frey recalled.

"So I went to the screening and I'm sitting there...and we're waiting for the movie to start, and I look over my shoulder — Quincy Jones. Okay. I look over my shoulder — Stevie Wonder. Look back over here, it's the Pointer Sisters. I'm sitting there going, 'I'm dead. There's no way I'm getting a song in Beverly Hills Cop.'"

According to Frey, everybody at the screening knew the movie was "going to be huge."

"But I never thought I'd get a song in it," he admitted. "So a month or two goes by and then all of a sudden somebody says, 'Hey, we're going to send you a song. See if you maybe want to sing it. It's written by these guys, Keith Forsey and Harold Faltermeyer, the guys in Munich that do the Donna Summer records are going to send you something. See if you want to sing it."

When Frey heard the demo, he thought it sounded like a "Huey Lewis thing, the saxophone in it. Kind of sounded like something I might do. So I said, 'Okay, I'll do it.'"

"So I met the guys, I came in, I sang it one day, I played guitar and did background vocals the next day and I got a small check, I think 15 grand. I had a little Christmas money, and I was happy."

Not a bad Christmas present, to be sure.

Best-Selling Author’s Novel Ranked Among the ‘Best Books’ of All Time Was an Instant Hit

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 8:40pm

There aren't many novels that have made an impact as immediate or as lasting as One Hundred Years of Solitude.

The bestselling work by Gabriel García Márquez has been ranked among the best books of all time on Goodreads, based on votes from readers, a reflection of its unending popularity and major influence across generations of readers. When it was first published in 1967, the novel was an instant hit, quickly selling out and establishing Márquez as one of the most important literary voices of the 20th century.

Set in the fictional town of Macondo, the novel follows multiple generations of the Buendía family, weaving together history, memory and myth in a richly layered narrative. It is widely credited with popularizing magical realism, a genre that blends the extraordinary with the everyday, creating a world where the impossible feels entirely natural.

"It was based on the way my grandmother used to tell her stories," Márquez told The Paris Review of the book. "She told things that sounded supernatural and fantastic, but she told them with complete naturalness. When I finally discovered the tone I had to use, I sat down for eighteen months and worked every day."

Beyond its inventive storytelling, the book explores themes of solitude, fate and the cyclical nature of time, ideas that continue to resonate deeply with readers around the world.

"Ultimately, literature is nothing but carpentry," Márquez explained. "Both are very hard work. Writing something is almost as hard as making a table. With both you are working with reality, a material just as hard as wood. Both are full of tricks and techniques. Basically very little magic and a lot of hard work are involved. And as Proust, I think, said, it takes ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration."

The novel reached a new audience when it was adapted into a series by Netflix, which premiered in 2024. The project marked the first time the story was brought to the screen, a significant milestone given that Márquez had long resisted adaptations during his lifetime. The series aimed to faithfully capture the scope and spirit of the original novel while introducing Macondo to a global streaming audience.

More than half a century after its release, One Hundred Years of Solitude remains both a literary cornerstone and a cultural phenomenon.

"The letters I find most interesting are from [readers] who ask me where I got this theme or that passage or such and such a character. Because they feel it is about something or someone they know," Márquez told The New York Times. "They will say: So and so is just like my aunt. Or: I have an uncle just like him. And: that episode happened exactly like that in my village. How did you know about it? People from all over Latin America wrote such things, especially after One Hundred Years of Solitude. They felt it was part of their lives."

Its place among Goodreads' top-ranked books, and its continued evolution into new formats, proves that its story is not only enduring, but truly timeless.

Award-Winning ’90s Actress, With Best-Selling Novel, Turns 71

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 8:39pm

For audiences who grew up in the ‘90s, Kate Mulgrew was celebrated for her versatility, portraying bold and remarkable characters that are impossible to ignore.

From her career-defining role in Star Trek: Voyager to her standout performance in the hit Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, she consistently delivered a commanding presence that left a lasting impression on viewers.

As she marks her 71st birthday, the award-winning actress remains a compelling figure whose work continues to resonate across generations.

Born on April 29, 1955, she revealed that her first love was not acting but poetry. However, after hearing her perform, her mother believed she had much stronger potential in other areas, such as acting, rather than as a writer.

“She said, ‘You can either be a mediocre poet or a great actress,’ and what she meant was, ‘I choose this for you: I think you should go into the theater and you should start now,” she said in an interview with Publishers Weekly. “You will be the one to carry it for me, Kitten, the thing I couldn’t do for myself because I’ve been burdened by all you little irritating kids.”

At 17, she was accepted into the highly prestigious Stella Adler Studio of Acting and moved to New York City to pursue her studies.

However, the journey leading up to this was not easy. Despite her mother’s full support, her father never wanted her to become an actress, but that did not stop her.

“So in order to get to NYU, which had a collaborative program with the Stella Adler Conservatory, I had to lie to my father, which I’ve been doing ever since!” she shared on her website, Totally Kate. “So I said, ‘Daddy, I want to go to New York University. I must seek an academic career. I think I will major in philosophy.’ He said, ‘Now you’re really full of it.’ That was the deal. In order to attend Stella Adler Conservatory, I had to go to NYU.”

Mulgrew only stayed for one year and left early after landing her first major acting role as Mary Ryan on the soap opera Ryan's Hope.

The ABC series ran for 13 seasons from 1975 to 1989 and won various awards, including Outstanding Drama Series twice at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 1977 and 1979.

Years later, Mulgrew achieved her breakthrough after joining the cast of the Star Trek franchise.

In 1995, she made history as the first female lead captain with her role as Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager.

Despite the series ending in 2001, she reprised her role in the film Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002, returning as Admiral Janeway for a cameo role and later appearing in the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy in 2021, voicing both a Training Hologram and the "real" Vice-Admiral Janeway.

Another career-defining moment for the actress came off-screen.

Another career-defining moment for Mulgrew came off-screen with the release of her bestselling memoir, where she offered a deeply personal and unfiltered look into her life, struggles and journey to success.

In 2015, she released her best-selling bookBorn with Teeth, which highlights her personal and professional life. From growing up in an unconventional Irish Catholic family to giving up her daughter for adoption when she was 22.

Four years later, she released her second book, How to Forget: A Daughter's Memoir, which centers on her return to her hometown in Dubuque, Iowa, to reconnect with her parents.

With patio season coming up fast, Target just cut its Costway Set of 4 Patio Dining Chairs in half, bringing the price down to just $220 from $440. Each chair measures 23 inches long by 25 inches wide by 34.5 inches high, with a 16.5-inch seat height, and can hold up to 400 pounds. They have fixed arms, non-slip foot pads, curved legs, a reinforced X-shaped support structure, and a breathable woven seat. This set is perfect if your outdoor table still needs chairs before the weather gets warmer. Four matching seats can make a deck or patio feel much more pulled together, especially if you’ve been using old folding chairs or a random mix of pieces from past summers. They’re also cushion-free, so there’s one less thing to bring inside every time rain is in the forecast.

One reviewer described them as “beautiful and sturdy,” noting that they’re “easy to put together.” Another said, “The chairs are comfortable to sit in,” despite lacking cushions, while a third shopper noted they're “very well-made,” predicting they “should last a lifetime.”

You could use these around a wooden patio table, or you could even split the set up. Two could go on a balcony with a small table between them, while the other two could sit near a garden, pool area, or fire pit. Since the frame is natural and the rattan is a mix of browns, the chairs would look especially cohesive with beige, black, white, terracotta, or green accents.

1980 Hit Ranked the 'Greatest Classic Rock Song That Completely Define the Genre'

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 8:22pm

Arguably, to be considered a classic rock band, a musical group has to release at least a handful of memorable hits. Therefore, music fans can't usually give a definitive answer as to what's the best classic rock song, as the genre is chock-full of impactful and beloved tracks. That being said, the publication Collider released a ranking of the "10 greatest classic rock songs that completely define the genre."

The ranking, published in May 2025, included rock hits like The Beatles' 1967 song, "A Day in the Life," "Gimme Shelter" byThe Rolling Stones from 1969, 1971's "Layla" by Derek and the Dominos, and The Doors' "L.A. Woman," released in 1970.

AC/DC's 1980 song, "You Shook Me All Night Long," was crowned as the best classic rock song that "defined the genre." According to Collider, the song, off the band's seventh album, Back in Black, should be recognized for its cheeky lyrics and incredible guitar, played by none other than Angus Young.

Collider reported that Back in Black marked the band's first album since singer Bon Scott died in February 1980. Scott was replaced by Brian Johnson, who originally performed with the Newcastle band Geordie.

In a 2011 interview on the Howard Stern Show, Johnson, now 78, shared that Scott had told his bandmates about him before he had died. According to Johnson, he was called in to audition for AC/DC shortly after Scott's death. After his audition, the band agreed he was the right fit, and they began working on Back in Black, which took six weeks to complete.

He also said that the first song he penned for AC/DC was "You Shook Me All Night Long." In the Howard Stern Show interview, Johnson said that he immediately knew the song would be a hit. According to Johnson, he told his bandmates that he believed "that's about the best rock and roll song [he had] ever heard in [his] life" upon first listen.

70's Rock Icons Announce Major 2026 Tour Update 53 Years After Classic No. 1 Party Anthem

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 8:07pm

The ’70s was a great decade for songs about the excessive touring lifestyles of rock stars, and why not? Decades later, these party anthems still make the perfect soundtrack for a night out.

That's why Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American Band" remains the ideal listen for anybody who's ready to "party it down." And now, over 50 years after the track hit #1 in 1973, fans have the chance to see Grand Funk Railroad play the classic song live onstage again.

As Ultimate Classic Rock reported, Grand Funk Railroad recently added a number of summer concert dates to their current Still Shinin' On tour (named after their 1974 album, Shinin' On).

The new dates kick off on July 2 in Dalton, Georgia, and include stops in Columbus, Ohio and Washington, Pennsylvania before wrapping up on Sept. 24 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

More information can be found on Grand Funk Railroad's official touring website.

Max Carl is retiring from Grand Funk Railroad

Along with the announcement of the additional tour dates came the news that Max Carl, Grand Funk Railroad's singer since 2000, is retiring from the band.

"Effective immediately, and due to a recent medical issue, Max Carl has made the difficult decision to retire from touring and performing with Grand Funk Railroad," the group said in a statement.

"Max has been an integral part of this band for 26 years," the statement continued. "For over two decades, his soulful vocals and stage presence have helped keep the Grand Funk legacy alive and vibrant. We are deeply grateful for the immense talent and enthusiasm he brought to the stage night after night. More importantly, Max has been a kind, loyal friend to us all, and a warm, gracious presence to the countless fans he has had the pleasure of meeting over the years."

The statement went on to explain that founding member Don Brewer, "the voice behind some of the band's biggest historic hits," and longtime bandmate Tim Cashion take over on lead vocals.

King Charles Connects With Kids at an After-School Urban Farming Program in Harlem

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:52pm

It certainly looks like the royals are enjoying their tour of the U.S. The day after attending a lavish White House state dinner with President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and a star-studded guest list of famous faces (including Trump’s adult children and two-time Masters winner Rory McIlroy), King Charles and Queen Camilla spent some time in New York City.

King Charles visited the after-school farming program Harlem Grown, while Queen Camilla went to the New York Public Library.

Upon arriving in Harlem, the King was greeted by the young students who participated in the program. He spent just under one hour learning about Harlem Grown and exploring the world of urban farming. Ever the hands-on monarch, Charles even fed a few chickens!

Ephiphany Adams, the first student and graduate of Harlem Grown, told ABC 7 NY, “He was like, 'I want to come here. I want to learn about farming. I want to see how it’s done.’ And for me, when I heard that, it went from him being King Charles to just Charles.”

Before he left, King Charles gifted the program a jar of honey made by bees at Highgrove House (his Gloucestershire residence).

The Royal Family Instagram account posted a series of photos documenting the visit. Along with pictures of the King learning from the children, the carousel also included a sweet snapshot of a handwritten note. The letter, presumably from one of Harlem Grown’s young students, read, “Dear King Charles, We would like for you to come to Harlem Grown. There are a lot of plants, and we heard that you like nature. Please come help us make the world a better place.” And that’s exactly what he did!

While her husband enjoyed some time communing with nature (that is, nature in the city), Queen Camilla was at ther New York Public Library. Actress Sarah Jessica Parker, fashion icon Anna Wintour, Jenna Bush Hager, and guests from the literary world greeted Camilla. During the event, she gifted the library with a Roo doll from the classic tale, A.A. Milne’sWinnie the Pooh.’ As it turns out, the library has an extensive permanent collection of teddy bears that belonged to the author’s son. The new doll replaces a previously missing Roo.

Of course, the King wasn’t the only royal to impress some of the family’s youngest fans. While visiting the library, Queen Camilla read to a group of school children, sharing her love of books. Camilla later spoke to the adults in the group, delivering a heartfelt message: “Books are the best friends you can have, in good times and in bad.”

‘Perfect Match’ Season 4 Trailer Teases Multiple Reality TV Pairings

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:35pm

Netflix releases season 4 of Perfect Match on Wednesday, May 4. Reality stars will try to find a romantic match to stay in the show's house and test their compatibility in challenges. The winner of these challenges have the power to set up other cast members on dates in hopes for them to find someone, or to break up a strong couple.

The trailer is out, and we get a glimpse of some matches in the new season.

‘Perfect Match’ Season 4 Cast’s Matches

The trailer shows excited singles ready to make out and find love. It starts with DeMari Davis of Too Hot to Handle Season 6 kissing Alison Ogden of Building the Band. However, the rest of the cast watched, and the kiss was probably the first party game to get the party started.

It looked like Alison, 24, might match with Danny Spongberg of Temptation Island Season 1. DeMari, 29, later stood next to Marissa George of Love Is BlindSeason 7 at a compatibility challenge, which would make them a match.

The challenge clip exposed more matches. Yamen Sanders stood next to Temptation Island Season 2's Natalie Cruz. Vanderpump Rules' Ally Lewber was beside Jimmy Presnell of Love Is Blind Season 6. Sophie Willett from Love Is Blind UK Season 2 stood in front of Married at First Sight: Australia'sDave Hand. The last pairing was Jimmy Sotos and Alison.

Of course, these matches could change the more time they spend with the singles. DeMari was surprised to see his ex, Bri Balram, among them.

The matches compete for a free romantic trip. They have the tough job of convincing the singles outside of the house that they're worth their vote.

2004 Hit Film Ranked Among ‘Most Shocking Wins’ in Best Picture Oscar History

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:34pm

For nearly 100 years, the Academy Awards have delivered plenty of unforgettable moments. Sometimes, the Oscar winners are predictable, but shockers do pop up from time to time. One particular win that came over two decades ago is still one of the most talked-about upsets. The 2004 movie Crash snagged the Best Picture win at the 78th Academy Awards, and it is still considered a controversial decision.

The Oscar nominees for Best Picture that year included:

  • Brokeback Mountain
  • Capote
  • Crash
  • Good Night, and Good Luck
  • Munich

Acting icon Jack Nicholson was the presenter for the Best Picture category that year. When he announced that Crash had won, his facial expression conveyed shock, and he could be seen mouthing “whoa.” Many viewers at home felt the same way.

The BBC suggested that Crash winning the Best Picture Oscar was perhaps the "most controversial decision ever.”

The favorite to win Best Picture that year was Brokeback Mountain, which starred Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Both Crash and Brokeback Mountain were about topics that could be divisive with moviegoers.

Brokeback Mountain told the complicated love story of two cowboys who fell in love while working in Wyoming in 1963.

Crash, on the other hand, focused on the complexity of racial tensions in Los Angeles, California. Several stories were woven together, and each had a race-related component at its center. The film starred an ensemble cast that included the likes of Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Thandiwe Newton, Brendan Fraser, and Tony Danza.

Even Bobby Moresco, a co-writer and producer of Crash, “just assumed” the Oscar for Best Picture would go to Brokeback Mountain, he admitted to the BBC.

In 2023, Variety did a roundup of what they considered to be the worst Oscar winners. Crash landed in the second spot.

The top spot on Variety's list went to Will Smith for winning Best Actor for King Richard in 2022. Smith winning wouldn't have been particularly controversial on its own. However, the win came on the same night that he slapped presenter Chris Rock on stage.

A recent list of the 10 worst Best Picture Oscar winners created by USA Today also put Crash in the second spot. The top honor on their list went to the 1929 movie The Broadway Melody.

Of Crash, the outlet noted that the cast was “amazing." However, the writer felt that the movie “fumbles a bunch of chances to deal with racism and multiculturalism in a real way.”

In addition, Rotten Tomatoes ranked all 98 previous Best Movie Oscar Winners from best to worst. On their list, Crash managed to avoid being in the very last spot. Interestingly, The Broadway Melody earned that honor on that list, as well.

Crash was ranked 90 out of 98 winners on Rotten Tomatoes. “A raw and unsettling morality piece on modern angst and urban disconnect," was the consensus of the critics.

The criticism over the Crash win also came from movie buffs. In a Reddit post with over 3,000 comments on the worst Oscars win, Crash popped up a handful of times.

One Reddit user quipped, “Crash was an R rated after school special.”

Another Reddit user noted they were in film school when the movie was released. “I thought there was something wrong with me that I couldn’t understand how it was considered such a good movie,” they admitted.

A commenter in a similar Reddit thread shared, “It’s very important to me that people understand that not only was Brokeback Mountain a much better movie than Crash, but literally every other movie in that category was too.”

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:30pm

On Tuesday, April 28, ChetHanks visited the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonto promote the new season ofRunning Point.

The Netflix sports comedy premiered on February 27, 2025, and stars KateHudson as Isla Gordon, Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Scott MacArthur as Ness Gordon, and Drew Tarver as Sandy Gordon.

The series was co-created by MindyKaling, ElaineKo, David Stassen, and Ike Barinholtz and is co-directed by Michael Weaver, Thembi Banks, James Ponsoldt, and David Stassen.

Running Point follows 30-something Isla Gordon after she is suddenly put in charge of reviving her family’s business, the Los Angeles Waves basketball team franchise.

“I didn't want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it,” he said. “I didn't want to do that again, and I didn't want to furnish it. So I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels, and that gets really old because I just like having my own space.”

Hanks recently moved to Nashville to pursue country music. After his arrival, he went on a solo road trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea.

“I stayed in an Airstream trailer, and I really loved it,” he said. “I was like, ‘Man, I want one of these…' So I did. I got a trailer.”

He currently lives in a Jayco Eagle in Nashville. The actor knows his residence of choice might get a negative reputation, but he reassured Fallon he has everything he needs. The trailer is equipped with a kitchen and a walk-in shower, which Hanks called a “big deal.”

“It's not what you think, you know? You think, oh, you're gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous. It's all just, like, retirees, you know? Great people,” he said.

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:29pm

Lorenzo Lamas is gushing with praise for his new girlfriend, Heather Locklear.

Lamas, 68, who got his start on Falcon Crest, is widely known for his role as a cop framed for murder on the popular TV series Renegade. Locklear, 64, rose to fame as Sammie Jo Carrington on Dynasty and the wild Amanda Woodward on Melrose Place. The dynamic duo, who confirmed they were dating back in April, made their first public appearance as a couple this weekend at the Chiller Theatre Expo in New Jersey. Now, Lamas is speaking out about his new lady love.

When asked if he ever imagined his relationship with Locklear would come full circle four decades after they first met, Lamas said he never predicted this.

"The short answer is no," Lamas told Fox News Digital. "I mean, I’ve been through a lot of trial and error, and she is the most amazing woman that I think I’ve ever met."

The couple first met back in 1983 during their TV days while shooting the cover of Playgirl magazine.

"I cannot believe that this was 43 years ago! Side note, speedos on request only," Lamas tweeted back in December.

The dynamic duo made their first public appearance as a couple last weekend at the Chiller Theatre Expo in New Jersey. Both in black leather, the hot duo was a hit with the crowd as they walked in through the kitchen in classic Goodfellas style. Locklear waved at the camera as they walked in and were greeted by a room full of eager fans.

Back in December, Locklear spoke candidly about her hopes to find love again in the near future.

Asked about her holiday wish for the season, Locklear shared a touching message that included wishes for health and happiness for her mother, daughter, and friends. But she also spoke about her optimistic perspective on finding love again after her two divorces.

“I pray about my family every night, and my mom especially, and my daughter being happy, and especially my dog staying alive,” Locklear shared. “But honestly, what I want is for God to direct me towards who I’m supposed to be with, because I can’t always make good decisions, and, um, that’s my immediate one.”

Costco Stocked a New Olipop Variety Pack That's Giving Major Spring Vibes

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:25pm

A new prebiotic soda pack just landed at Costco, and shoppers are running. Costco is known for rolling out seasonal finds that feel perfectly timed, and this latest release is no exception. Bright flavors, pastel cans and warm-weather energy are all part of the appeal. Plus, it features a brand-new flavor that's only available for a limited time.

User @costcobestie shared that the new limited-edition variety pack features three standout flavors: Strawberry Vanilla, Shirley Temple and the newest addition, Raspberry Sherbet. Together, they deliver a mix of creamy, fruity and classic soda shop vibes that feel made for spring and early summer. The pack is priced at $19.99 and contains 15 cans, equaling about $1.33 per can. Other retailers typically charge between $2 and $3 per can, making this a cost-effective Costco buy.

Strawberry Vanilla is already an Olipop fan favorite. It's often described as dessert-like, blending juicy strawberry flavor with smooth vanilla cream. Many fans rank it among Olipop's best flavors, and it continues to earn high ratings online. If you love drinks that taste like a melted strawberry shake but with less sugar, this one checks the box.

RUN to Costco for the limited edition @OLIPOP spring variety pack! Raspberry sherbet, Shirley temple, and strawberry vanilla. This is their best pack yet. 🍓✨ #costcofinds #olipop #springvarietypack #limitededition #healthysoda

Shirley Temple Olipop has also built a strong following. The flavor went viral earlier in 2026 as one of the most talked-about beverage launches of 2026. Inspired by the classic mocktail, it delivers a sweet, cherry-forward taste with a hint of pomegranate. Its nostalgic feel and low sugar content made it especially popular during Dry January, and it continues to show up in social media hauls and reviews.

Raspberry Sherbet Is the Breakout Star

While the entire Costco Olipop pack feels fun and fresh, Raspberry Sherbet is the flavor stealing the spotlight. Released in late April 2026 as part of this limited-edition spring lineup, it's quickly becoming a "run to Costco" favorite. Fans describe it as creamy, sweet and slightly tart, almost like melted sherbet in a glass.

Each can of this new Olipop flavor contains just two grams of sugar, around 30 calories and six grams of fiber. Like other prebiotic sodas, it's designed to support gut health by adding beneficial bacteria to the digestive system. Prebiotics can help balance the gut microbiome, improve digestion and support immune health. That makes this feel more like a functional drink than a traditional soda.

This limited spring variety pack at Costco combines all of that in one colorful box. Whether you're stocking up for warmer weather, hosting a backyard get-together or just want a sweet treat without the guilt, this new Costco find is giving major spring vibes.

Psychologist Says if You Need Background Noise To Focus, You Likely Have These 7 Traits

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:11pm

There are lots of things people turn to to help them focus. They might strive for a clutter-free desk or set a timer as they work for a certain amount of time. And then there are those of us who need background noise to focus on a task, whether it’s a Spotify playlist, coffee-house chatter or white noise. There’s something about background sounds that help you get into the zone.

Although there can be many types of people who require something in the background while they work, the preference does tend to vary among age groups. For instance, according to 2019 research from Poly, more than half of the Gen Z individuals surveyed said they’re most productive when they’re working around noise in an office, while 60% of Baby Boomers said that they’re most productive when it’s quiet.

People who need background noise to get their work done can have specific personality traits, and ahead, a psychologist details those common characteristics.

Why Is Background Noise Beneficial to Some People?

Licensed psychologist Lienna Wilson says that one of the evolutionary functions of our nervous system is to be on the lookout for stimuli (i.e., sights, noises) that present danger.

“Even when you are relaxing and quietly reading a book, your brain is scanning for subtle noises that might present danger,” she tells Parade. “Imagine how you would react if you suddenly heard a firetruck siren outside, while you are quietly reading a book. The more you pay attention to external stimuli, the more difficult it is to focus.”

As a result, she says that background noise, such as white noise, helps eliminate intruding sounds, making it easier for the brain to focus on the task at hand or to relax—that’s why some people use background noise to fall asleep

Mental Health Conditions and Background Noise

There are certain mental health conditions that are tied to needing background noise. For example, Dr. Wilson says that people who have anxiety often don’t like to sit in silence.

“Since their mind often races, silence can exacerbate their racing thoughts and can bring a lot of unwanted intrusive thoughts to the surface. White noise can help them calm their minds,” she explains.

“Additionally, people who have ADHD, especially the inattentive presentation, are typically more easily distracted by outside noises. Stable background noise, like white noise, can eliminate those unwanted distractions,” she adds.

Dr. Wilson also observes that since people on the autism spectrum tend to be very sensitive to sounds, they may benefit from consistent background noise, like white or brown noise, to mask distracting environmental sounds. But there is a caveat.

“Even a consistent background noise may be too stimulating for some individuals on the spectrum, in which case they might prefer noise-canceling headphones,” she says.

And lastly, Dr. Wilson says that people with bipolar disorder who are in the manic state may be more sensitive and can be easily bothered by various noises.

“That’s why having stable background noise, like white noise, can help in those situations,” she explains.

7 Common Traits of People Who Need Background Noise To Focus, Psychologist Says1. You’re creative

Dr. Wilson points out that people who are creative tend to dislike repetitive tasks and find them boring. “Having some background noise, like your favorite soundtrack, can make boring tasks more tolerable,” she says.

2. You’re high-energy

“People who are high-energy and who like to move around as opposed to sitting quietly tend to prefer background noise,” Dr. Wilson says.

Related: The Surprising Morning Drink That Boosts Focus Better Than Coffee

3. You’re adaptable

If you prefer to have some background noise, you might be a lot more flexible than the average person. As Dr. Wilson says, “People who are flexible tend to be adaptable to various situations, like loud neighbors or living next to a train station. During the time of building their adaptability toolkit, they typically incorporate background noises that tend to block out the unwanted sounds.”

4. You’re a multitasker

You likely excel at multitasking. Dr. Wilson says, “People who like to multitask tend to enjoy background noise. They are used to quickly moving from one task to the next, and silence can make them feel that it’s slowing them down.”

Related: Eliminating This 1 App From Your Phone Can Double Your Focus, According to Cognitive Experts

5. You’re extroverted

“Some people by nature are more extroverted and are looking for frequent social stimulation and interactions,” Dr. Wilson says. “They may have a difficult time tolerating complete silence and tend to gravitate towards background noise, such as music or TV in the background.”

6. You grew up in a loud family

You may have grown up “in a large, loud family,” as Dr. Wilson says, who adds that you may crave a reminder of what feels familiar and comforting and often gravitate to having background noise.

7. You’re afraid to be alone

“There are some people who are afraid to be alone because it brings up acute feelings of loneliness,” Dr. Wilson says. “Having background noise in those cases can help.”

Related: Psychologist Says Individuals Who Grew Up as ‘Pushovers’ Often Develop These 9 Traits as Adults

Other Things That Help Focus

If you’ve tried background noise and it doesn’t seem to help you focus, you may just need the opposite—in this case, you may need to block out distracting sounds through noise-canceling headphones or earplugs, as Dr. Wilson recommends.

“Additionally, some people really benefit from reducing clutter in their work area,” she says. “When the work environment is visually cluttered, it can be visually distracting and can increase anxiety because it may become more difficult to find certain things that you need for your project. Creating a clean, organized desk space can help with mental focus.”

Or you just may need a change of scenery.

“Sometimes, a change of location can be really helpful,” Dr. Wilson says. “If you find that you cannot concentrate at home because you are easily distracted by certain tasks or people, you may benefit from going to a coffee shop. If the noise starts to bother you, try going to a local library or another quiet location.”

When Background Noise Becomes a Problem

Although background noise can be helpful to many people, there are those times when it actually becomes detrimental to your productivity. You may notice that your need for background noise starts to interfere with your life—it can become a coping mechanism for poor focus, it could throw off your deep focus or the wrong type of noise (i.e. loud rock music) might negatively affect your productivity.

Other negative outcomes may include, as Dr. Wilson says: “You always need background music while you work, but you forgot your headphones at home, and you have not been able to concentrate all day. Or perhaps your co-workers are starting to complain that you are always wearing headphones, and therefore seem unavailable when they need to speak with you.”

For this, Dr. Wilson advises seeking a mental health consultation.

“A consultation with a mental health professional can help determine whether you have a condition that drives you to seek background noise, or help you develop other coping skills when you don’t have access to background noise,” she says.

Amazon’s 'Luxurious' $55 7-Piece Ruffle Comforter Set Works With Every Aesthetic and Comes in 15 Colors

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:10pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Decor preferences tend to evolve over time. One minute you’re fully committed to farmhouse with a wood dining table, a rustic console, and a distressed bench at the foot of the bed. Next, you’re all about coastal, eyeing a woven rattan cabinet, a breezy linen sofa, and a ceramic table lamp that looks like it belongs in a beach house. Give it a little time, and now everything feels too busy, so you’re drawn to a sleek upholstered bed and a clean-lined nightstand instead. It’s less of a straight line and more of a rotation.

That’s why it makes sense to be a little more strategic with the pieces you use every single day. Things like towels, sheets, and especially your bedding should be able to shift with you, not lock you into one specific look. The Bloomhaven Queen 7-Piece Ruffle Comforter Set at Amazon is a good example of that kind of flexibility. It has just enough texture and detail to feel styled, but it’s neutral enough to work across different aesthetics. Even better, it’s currently on sale for as low as $55, marked down 33% from $75.

This set makes things easy right from the start. It comes with seven pieces total — one comforter, one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, two shams, and two pillowcases — so you’re not stuck mixing and matching to get a complete bed together. The overall look leans soft and slightly romantic, with ruffled edges along the comforter and shams that add texture. Underneath, the sheets bring in a charming floral pattern that adds just enough contrast to keep things from looking flat, giving the whole setup a more layered, styled feel. There’s also a small but genuinely useful detail built in — a side pocket on the fitted sheet where you can tuck a remote, your phone, or a book so it doesn’t disappear into the abyss of your bed.

It’s made from microfiber, which gives it that smooth, lightweight softness that feels comfortable without being too heavy or stiff. It’s breathable enough for everyday sleeping but still has that cozy, slightly plush feel you want from a comforter. Maintenance is straightforward, too — you can throw the whole set in the washing machine, and a quick tumble dry helps the comforter fluff back up after unpacking or cleaning. It’s also Oeko-tex Standard 100 certified, which adds an extra layer of reassurance when it comes to materials and overall quality.

The set comes in 15 colors and patterns, ranging from soft neutrals to jewel-tones to brights, so it’s easy to match whatever direction your space is going. Size-wise, it's available in Twin XL all the way up to oversized King, so whether you’re working with a dorm bed, a standard frame, or something larger, there’s an option that fits without awkward gaps or overhang. Prices vary depending on the size and color you choose, but every option is discounted, so you get a great deal no matter which one you go with.

Shoppers described this “comfy” and “cozy” set as “luxurious,” “soft,” and “fluffy,” with many calling out how it evokes design elements from the “shabby chic,” “farmhouse,” “vintage,” and “romantic” aesthetics.

1979 Pop Classic, Among Longest No. 1 Hit Songs of All Time, Became a Timeless Anthem

Wed, 04/29/2026 - 7:08pm

In 1979, a song with an irresistible groove and unforgettable hook took over the chartsand held on long enough to become one of the longest-running hits of the deacde.

"Ring My Bell," performed by Anita Ward, became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, where it debuted in the top spot and remained for two weeks. It went on to stay at the top of Billboard R&B Chart for 5 weeks, cementing its place among the longest-running chart-toppers of the era.

Written by Frederick Knight, the track was originally intended for a younger audience, but it ultimately found its voice through Ward's smooth, confident delivery. With its blend of disco rhythms, shimmering instrumentation and a now-iconic electronic drum sound, the song captured the energy of late-'70s dance floors at their peak.

"I personally didn’t like the song," Ward confessed to WREG. "But I like ballads." Fortunately for Ward, she decided to record the song anyway.

"Ring My Bell" quickly became a global sensation, dominating radio airwaves and dance clubs alike. Its catchy chorus and upbeat tempo made it instantly recognizable, helping it stand out even in a crowded era filled with disco hits.

"I had started doing substitute teaching while we were waiting to see if the music was going to take off," Ward told Goldmine. "I didn't have to wait very long. I subbed for four months and then the song went gold after two weeks."

The song's chart success was remarkable, not just for reaching No. 1, but for its staying power during a time when competition was fierce. Its extended run at the top placed it among the most enduring hits of the decade and contributed to its legacy as one of the defining songs of the disco era.

More than four decades later, "Ring My Bell" continues to resonate, regularly appearing in films, television and nostalgic playlists. Its influence can still be heard in modern pop and dance music, proving that its appeal extends far beyond its original moment.

Today, the track stands as a timeless anthem, one that captured the spirit of its time while securing a lasting place in music history.
