Country Music Legend David Allan Coe Dead at 86
David Allan Coe, the country music singer known for hits such as “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” has died. He was 86.
Rolling Stone confirmed Coe’s death on Wednesday, April 29. His cause of death was not known by the outlet at the time of publication.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on Sept. 6, 1939, Coe spent much of his young adulthood serving time in correctional facilities for a variety of crimes. His stints behind bars helped him cultivate the outlaw persona he would carry with him into his music career.
After making his way to Nashville in 1967, Coe initially achieved recognition as a songwriter when Tanya Tucker’s rendition of “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)” hit No. 1 in 1973. The song’s success led to Coe being signed by Columbia Records.
Coe ventured fully into country music with his 1974 album, The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy. The following year, he recorded his own version of “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)” for his 1975 album, Once Upon a Rhyme, but it was another song on the album that became a career-defining top 10 hit for Coe: “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.”
The track includes several memorable lyrics—for instance, the spoken word portion where Coe refers to it as “the perfect country and western song.” Elsewhere, he name-checks himself, singing, “But the only time I know I’ll hear ‘David Allan Coe’ / Is when Jesus has His final judgment day.”
Throughout his career, Coe made a point to mention himself in several of his songs, including 1976’s “Longhaired Redneck,” 1977’s “Willie, Waylon and Me” and 1986’s “Son of the South.”

While the height of his success came in the ‘70s, Coe enjoyed a comeback in 1983 with his album Castles in the Sand, which featured the popular single “The Ride.”
Outside of his own music, Coe was well-known for his songwriting for other artists. In addition to Tucker’s “Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone),” he famously penned the 1977 No. 1 hit “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck.
In the later years of his career, Coe continued to release his own new albums and perform live.
Despite his place in country music history, Coe was not without his controversies. He incited backlash for his use of racial slurs and misogynistic language on his albums Nothing Sacred in 1978 and Underground Album in 1982, though he later claimed the projects were meant to serve as parodies.
Decades later, Coe found himself in legal trouble, pleading guilty to impeding and obstructing the administration of Internal Revenue laws in 2015. The following year, he was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay nearly $1 million in back taxes to the IRS.
As for his personal life, Coe married his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings, in 2010.
Coe is survived by his wife and his children.

1941's 'Citizen Kane', the Greatest Film of All Time, Is Returning to Theaters
Orson Welles' Citizen Kane is celebrating its 85th anniversary in a big way.
The classic film, which is largely regarded as one of the greatest movies of all time, will be returning to theaters this summer.
The 1941 drama will land in major chains including AMC, Regal, Emagine Entertainment and B&B Theatres in early July.
Citizen Kane was not a box office success, but was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Actor for Orson Welles.
It won the award for Best Original Screenplay.
In 2015, a BBC critics poll named Citizen Kane the greatest American film ever made, beating out Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 gangster film, The Godfather. The film has twice been named as the greatest American film ever made by the American Film Institute in its annual "100 YEARS…100 MOVIES" ranking.
"Classic and popular re-releases are an important theatrical programming category, and the curated movies Fathom Entertainment brings to the big screen continue to be embraced by filmgoers of all ages," Fathom CEO Ray Nutt said, according to Variety. "The 2026 Fathom’s Big Screen Classics slate is filled with anniversary celebrations from some of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time and showcases a wide breadth of iconic hits and award-winning films. Fathom is also thrilled with the return of Leonard Maltin, casting a spotlight with exclusive introductions for these cinematic treasures."

1999 Rock Classic, Among Longest No. 1 Hit Songs, Became a Timeless Anthem
In 1999, a surprising music pairing changed rock and pop history. Santana, a legendary guitarist known for classic hits from the 1970s, teamed up with Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, a younger rock singer from a different generation.
The collaboration between the two artists was part of Santana’s comeback album Supernatural. The goal was simple but risky: bring Santana back to radio success after years away from mainstream charts.
Before becoming a hit, “Smooth” almost didn’t happen. Early versions of the song were rejected and reworked many times. The track originally started as an idea called “Room 17,” but it needed new lyrics and a stronger direction before Santana agreed to record it.

Music executives even questioned whether the song would work at all. The pairing of a Latin-rock legend and a modern pop-rock singer seemed risky in a chart dominated by boy bands and teen pop stars.
But once released in June 1999, everything changed.
“Smooth” quickly climbed the charts and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for 12 consecutive weeks. Its success made it one of the biggest hits of its time and one of the longest-running No. 1 songs in Billboard history.
The song also became a defining crossover hit, mixing Latin rock guitar, pop vocals, and modern production into one sound that stood out from everything else on radio.
“Smooth” was more than just a chart hit; it became a cultural moment. It is often described as one of the last major songs that united listeners of all ages, from teens to adults, across different music styles.
The song’s impact was so strong that it is still remembered as one of the most successful singles ever recorded. According to music history rankings, it stands among the top-performing songs of all time on the Billboard Hot 100.
Its popularity also came from its unforgettable opening line, which later became a meme and pop culture reference across generations.
The song’s success helped Supernatural become a multi-platinum album and brought Santana back into global fame. It also strengthened Rob Thomas’s career as both a performer and songwriter.
What started as a risky collaboration became one of the most recognizable songs in modern music history, one that still plays today and still gets the same reaction: nostalgia, surprise and recognition.

49 Years Ago, Glen Campbell Took a Song He Didn’t Write All the Way to No. 1
On April 30, 1977, Glen Campbell reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with "Southern Nights." He didn't write the song, but Campbell made entirely his own.
Originally penned and recorded by Allen Toussaint in 1975, "Southern Nights" had a very different feel in its first incarnation. Toussaint's version leaned into a dreamy, atmospheric sound inspired by childhood memories in Louisiana. When Campbell came across the track, he saw the potential to reimagine it for a broader audience.
The result was a brighter, more upbeat arrangement that blended country, pop and a touch of Southern soul, which was perfectly suited to Campbell’s crossover appeal. By the time it hit the airwaves, the song had transformed into an irresistible singalong, complete with its now-iconic "ba-ba-ba" chorus.
Campbell’s version quickly gained momentum, climbing the charts and eventually landing at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart. It also topped the country chart, reinforcing his status as one of the few artists who could seamlessly move between genres and dominate both.
At the time, Campbell was already a major star, known for hits like "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Wichita Lineman." But "Southern Nights" showcased something just as important—his ability to interpret a song and connect with listeners in a way that felt fresh and immediate.
Nearly five decades later, "Southern Nights" remains one of Campbell’s most recognizable hits. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the magic of a song isn’t just in who writes it, but in who brings it to life.

1985 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Entertaining Movie of the 1980s'
Movie enthusiasts will agree that there were quite a few captivating box office hits released throughout the 1980s. For instance, Collider recently compiled a list of the "10 most entertaining films" from the decade.
The ranking, released on April 29, featured popular '80s films like Aliens from 1986, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, released in 1989, 1987's The Princess Bride, 1989's Do the Right Thing, andStar Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back from 1980.
The Robert Zemeckis-directed time travel movie, Back to the Future, released in 1985, was named the "most entertaining" '80s movie. Collider reported that the movie has an interesting, off-the-wall plot and iconic characters, specifically Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, and Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox.
Back to the Future, which spawned two sequels, has a score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Back to the Future Part II (1989) has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 63 percent, while Back to the Future Part III (1990) has a score of 79 percent.
Michael J. Fox Opened up About the Unusual Way He Got the Role of Marty McFlyWhile some Back to the Future fans might have a hard time picturing anyone else playing the guitar-playing high school student, it's no secret that the original Marty McFly was actor Eric Stoltz.
In a 2001 interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Fox noted that he was starring in Family Ties as Alex P. Keaton when the film was starting production. According to Fox, Zemeckis and his co-writer for Back to the Future, Bob Gale, had approached the creator of Family Ties, Gary David Goldberg, to let them cast Fox as Marty, unbeknownst to the actor. Goldberg told Gale and Zemeckis that Fox was unavailable for the role as he needed to be on the Family Ties set.
Due to Fox's unavailability, Stoltz was hired for the role, but ended up getting fired after a few weeks of filming. According to Fox, Stoltz, whom he described as "a terrific actor," wasn't "really ready to embrace" the film's "goofiness."
Eventually, Goldberg let Fox know that Zemeckis wanted him to replace Stoltz and let him see the script. Fox said he was immediately interested in the role and began filming Back to the Future "within a week" of accepting the job. However, he also had to film Family Ties.
"I was doing both jobs. I'd do Family Ties in the daytime and I do Back to the Future at night. And I was working 18, 19, 20 hours," recalled Fox in the 2001 interview.
He also noted that starring in Back to the Future "changed [his] life" and career trajectory.

Amazon Exploring ‘The Apprentice’ Revival With Trump Jr.
The hit 2004 reality show The Apprentice, hosted by DonaldTrump, just might be getting revived.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is looking into a reboot of the series that would live on Prime Video. The updated show would have a small, two-letter change: jr., instead of Donald Trump hosting, his eldest son, DonaldTrumpJr., would be center stage.
Amazon didn’t comment on the show directly, but told the newspaper, “Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for TheApprentice as a property.”
The WSJ reported Amazon MGM Studios head, MikeHopkins, and fellow executives at the company were exploring the possibility of a reboot, noting that Hopkins and his team “began talking about the reboot idea internally early last year, around the time Trump was being sworn in for his second term, according to some of the people familiar with the talks.”
Currently, Amazon co-owns the rights to the series with Trump’s production company, Trump Productions. Originally, The Apprentice aired on NBC but was produced by Trump Productions and MarkBurnett Productions, in 2014 MGM purchased the company. Amazon acquired MGM in 2022.
The original show ran from 2004 to 2017, with Trump hosting the first 14 seasons. Amazon has streamed the reality series, and over time it has been sold into syndication and syndicated streaming
The Apprentice was a competition-based show where contestants were evaluated by their business skills. The ultimate goal was to secure an apprenticeship. Episodes ended with Trump telling the eliminated contestant the famous catch phrase, “You’re fired.”
Varietyreported that insiders say the series is currently “not in development.” Adding that there have not been “any discussions with anyone outside the company” about creating a future version of the show.
The Apprentice was nominated for nine Emmys while on air. It created multiple spinoffs, including Celebrity Apprentice and The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.
Donald Trump was fired from The Celebrity Apprentice in 2015 after he made remarks about Mexican immigrants.
In 2015, the network issued a statement, "At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."
Arnold Schwarzenegger took over the final installment of the series, which aired in 2017.

Country Icon Forced To Cancel Multiple Shows Amid 'Severe' Health Issues
LeAnn Rimes is hitting pause on her tour after a sudden health scare.
The country icon was forced to cancel two upcoming stops on her 30 Years of Blues tour due to what she described as a “severe illness.” In a message shared with fans on social media Wednesday, April 29, Rimes explained, “Due to severe illness, I am unable to travel & perform this week. I'm sorry to share that the upcoming shows in Spokane and Seattle will be rescheduled.”
The April 30 show in Spokane has now been moved to May 31, while the Seattle performance originally set for May 1 will take place on June 2. She explained that original tickets will still be honored at the rescheduled dates, and in the event fans can’t attend, they can get a full refund.
A screenshot of Leann Rimes' Instagram Story on April 29.“I am truly heartbroken to have to reschedule, and I am so very grateful for your kindness and continued support as I recover,” she added. “I look forward to [being] back on stage and seeing you very soon. Love, LeAnn.”
While Rimes did not specify the exact nature of her illness, the 43-year-old has been open about ongoing health issues. She previously revealed she's been dealing with intense jaw tension tied to her “perimenopausal, menopausal journey,” even undergoing a deep jaw release procedure to help alleviate the issue.
In a video, she shared a look at the experience, which was anything but subtle.
During the session, Rimes was breaking down into sobs as the pressure released. “Healing isn’t always quiet. Sometimes it’s a physical letting go of things we didn’t even know we were carrying,” read the caption accompanying the clip. At one point, she was even encouraged to say, “That part of my life better be over.”
Afterward, Rimes appeared relieved and said, “Oh my God, you just don’t realize how much tension is in there.”
Jessi Draper Files Declaration of Support for Taylor Frankie Paul Ahead of Court Hearing
TheSecret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jessi Draper is showing her support for Taylor Frankie Paul amid her ongoing legal battle with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.
According to court documents obtained by People, Draper filed an affidavit on Wednesday, April 29 in Paul and Mortensen's case over their competing protective orders. The affidavit was filed in support in support of Paul a source told People.
Additionally, Paul filed her own affidavit along with new exhibits titled “Kicking Admission” and “Abusive Texts." Mortensen submitted supplemental exhibits in response to Paul's request for a protective order.
Paul and Mortensen are scheduled to appear in Utah court on Thursday, April 30 to address the competing protective order requests as well as determine a custody agreement for their son Ever, 2.
Paul has alleged that Mortensen stalked her and slammed her head into the dashboard of his car. Mortensen then submitted photographs of scratches and other bodily injuries he allegedly sustained during altercations with Paul.
Both the Draper City Police Department and the West Jordan Police Department have opened domestic violence cases against Paul and Mortensen in February. In April, The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office and the Draper City Prosecutor both declined to file charges against Paul. They cited insufficient evidence to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt as a reason. On April 7, Mortensen was granted custody of their son with Paul receiving up to eight hours per week of supervised visitation.
Season five of The Secret Live of Mormon wives resumed production in April after filming had been paused in March. Paul and Mortensen will both be absent from the upcoming season as several cast members refused to work with Paul according to People.
If you are experiencing domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or go to thehotline.org. All calls are toll-free and confidential. The hotline is available 24/7 in more than 170 languages.

Her recovery journey has been long and painful since Feb. 8, 2026, when she crashed just 13 seconds into her women’s downhill run at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The impact caused a complex tibia fracture in her left leg, forcing medical teams to airlift her from the mountain to a hospital.

Vonn underwent multiple surgeries, with doctors at one point nearly forced to amputate her leg due to complications from compartment syndrome. She has since had a total of five surgeries while continuing intense rehabilitation.

— mydzn (@MadelaineDizon) April 30, 2026Even with the challenges, Vonn has continued to share updates with fans. Vonn’s recovery has not only been physical but also deeply emotional. Nearly three months after her crash, she has openly shared the mental struggles that came with her injury.
In an interview with People, she described how difficult the experience has been, especially after losing her independence during her hospital stay.
“It’s definitely been up and down,” she said of her mental health as she continues her rehab process. “I’d say in the last month, it’s definitely gotten better, but of course there were really low moments. I hate being dependent on people, and was pretty much 100% dependent for everything. It was quite a challenge, just being in the hospital alone for two and a half weeks. Being completely immobile for that extended time period was so rough.”
Vonn also revealed that at one point during treatment, she was in extreme pain that left a strong emotional memory of the experience.
“Halfway through, I started sweating. I was just in such extreme pain. I screamed at the top of my lungs: Get me out,” she told Vanity Fair.
“It just wouldn’t dissipate. It wouldn’t let up. It’s seared into my brain.”
She also revealed the emotional toll of her recovery, including periods of depression, while continuing to fight through rehabilitation.
Even while recovering, Vonn has remained active in other parts of her life. She is currently involved in advocacy work and public campaigns, including Invivyd’s “Antibodies for Any Body” campaign.
She is also preparing for a major public appearance as the commencement speaker for the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism on May 15.
While she is still far from returning to competitive skiing, Vonn has said she is beginning to see progress in her recovery timeline and believes she is moving closer to a more normal life.

Donald Trump Reveals His Mother Had a 'Crush' on King Charles During Speech on the South Lawn
President Donald Trump has an affinity for the royal family, and he revealed that his mother, Mary Trump, did, too.
The president divulged his mother had a “crush” on a young King Charles, previously the Prince of Wales, during a speech given on the South Lawn of the White House on April 28.
“My mother, I just see it so clearly, she loved, I told the King that she loved the royal family and she loved the Queen,” the president began, going off script from his speech to share the anecdote about his Scottish-born mother, who died in 2000 at the age of 88.

The president recalled his upbringing in New York City, remembering how his mother had loved the traditions of the British royal family, specifically those of Queen Elizabeth II.
“Any time the Queen was involved in the ceremony or anything, my mother would be glued to the television, and she’d say, ‘Look, Donald, look how beautiful that is,’” he continued before remembering his mother had eyes for Charles.
“She really did love the family, but I also remember her saying very clearly, 'Charles, look, young Charles, he's so cute,’” he said, getting a chuckle from the crowd. “My mother had a crush on Charles. Can you believe it? Amazing, how I wonder what she’s thinking right now.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla embarked on a four-day state visit to the US starting on April 27. The diplomatic move was intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, but it also occurred at a time of heightened tension between the two countries. President Trump has been publicly critical of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and the U.K. and the US have differed on several issues, including the Russian-Ukrainian war, the conflict in Iran, and more.
Charles spoke about the “indispensable partnership” between his country and the US during an address to Congress on April 28.
“The challenges we face are too great for any one nation to bear alone. But in this unpredictable environment, our alliance cannot rest on past achievements, or assume that foundational principles simply endure,” the monarch said, per AP. “We must not disregard everything that has sustained us for the last eighty years. Instead, we must build on it.”
Charles pointed to the “common ideals” of the countries, including “liberty and equality.”
“The rule of law: the certainty of stable and accessible rules, an independent judiciary resolving disputes and delivering impartial justice. These features created the conditions for centuries of unmatched economic growth in our two countries,” Charles said. “This is why our governments are concluding new economic and technology agreements – to write the next chapter of our joint prosperity and ensure that British and American ingenuity continues to lead the world.”
Charles urged that the countries’ “alliance will continue,” adding, “To defend our shared values, with our partners in Europe and the Commonwealth, and across the world, and that we ignore the clarion calls to become ever more inward-looking.”
“The story of the United Kingdom and the United States is, at its heart, a story of reconciliation, renewal, and remarkable partnership,” he said. “From the bitter divisions of 250 years ago, we forged a friendship that has grown into one of the most consequential alliances in human history.”
Hairstylists Say This Budget-Friendly Curl Cream Gives Instant Bounce, Moisture and Shine
Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
If you've ever stood in the hair care aisle staring at seventeen different curl products and wondering which one is actually going to give you the bouncy, frizz-free, touchably soft curls on the bottle, you already understand the conundrum of looking for the best curl cream.
The category is ridiculously overwhelming—and it's made more confusing by the fact that curl creams, gels and mousses are often shelved right next to each other with very little explanation of what makes them different, or why it matters for your specific texture. Spoiler: it matters a lot.
Curl cream is its own thing. It's not trying to do what gel does, and it's not competing with mousse. According to the stylists who work with curly hair every day, curl cream is fundamentally about moisture and softness first—it defines your curl pattern while keeping the result touchable rather than crunchy, hydrated rather than structured. For some people and some textures, that's the whole story. For others, it's the foundation of a layered routine that also involves gel or mousse for added hold.
What makes choosing the right one tricky is that curl creams are not one-size-fits-all. A formula that transforms thick, coily hair into defined, gorgeous spirals might flatten fine waves entirely. A lightweight cream that's perfect for a 2B wave pattern might not deliver enough moisture for a 4C coil.
The ingredient list, the formula weight and even the application technique all shift depending on your texture—which is exactly why we went straight to the people who do this for a living. And trust us, these hairstylists/angels delivered!
We talked to four experts—Rogerio Cavalcante, founder of Brazil Edition; T Cooper, professional hairstylist; Brendnetta Ashley, hairstylist and curly hair expert; and Stacy Gray, hairstylist—about what curl cream actually does, which ingredients to prioritize and which 12 formulas they reach for across every curl pattern (including a top budget pick that genuinely delivers bounce, moisture and shine without spending a fortune). Win-win-win!

What Does Curl Cream Do?The clearest way to understand curl cream is to understand what it's not. Gel gives you structure—sometimes a firm cast that you scrunch out once the hair is dry. Mousse gives you volume and a lighter hold with an airier finish. Curl cream, as Cavalcante explains, "is really about moisture and softness first. It defines the curl while keeping it touchable."
Ashley breaks it down further: gel creates a cast for medium to firm hold and frizz control, mousse gives volume and a lived-in look, and curl cream delivers moisture, softness and definition without stiffness. Cooper adds that the hold from a cream is noticeably softer—which is the whole appeal for people who want defined curls that still move naturally.

The ingredient list is where you can predict how a formula will actually perform on your hair before you even open the jar. Gray says there should be humectants like glycerin and aloe vera for moisture retention throughout the day; emollients like shea butter, argan oil or coconut oil for smoothness and shine; proteins like hydrolyzed silk or keratin to strengthen strands prone to breakage; and polymers like polyquaternium for locking in curl definition without crunch.
Ashley specifically flags shea butter, soy protein, silk amino acids and coconut oil as her go-to indicator ingredients. Cooper echoes the shea butter and aloe, adding avocado oil and glycerin to her list. The thread running through all four experts: hydration has to be the priority, and the formula weight needs to match the texture it's going on.

How To Use Curl Cream for the Best Curl DefinitionApplication technique is where a lot of people quietly go wrong—and fixing it can make a bigger difference than switching products.
First, according to Ashley, you need to detangle with a detangling leave-in spray. Brush from ends to scalp with a curl brush.
Then, apply the cream to wet or damp hair. Work it through evenly, scrunch or finger-shape the curls. According to Cooper, working through sections and either scrunching or finger-coiling will encourage the natural curl pattern. Gray's technique for maximum definition involves the "praying hands" method—sandwiching sections of hair between your palms and smoothing downward—followed by scrunching.
Then leave your hair alone and let it air dry or use a diffuser on low heat. And resist the urge to fidget with the curls while they're setting as touching the hair while it's drying is the primary cause of frizz.

Can Curl Cream Replace Gel or Mousse? For the right person and the right curl goal, absolutely. Cavalcante says if you're after soft, natural curls with movement, cream alone is completely sufficient.
But if you need more hold, "curl cream gives curls softer definition, but if you want a hold that lasts, layering with a gel or mousse is ideal," Cooper explains.
Ashley's take is the most texture-specific: she'd reach for gel over cream when she wants lasting hold, mousse over cream when volume is the priority. When she wants moisture and hold working together, she layers cream with gel. Fine curls, she notes, may actually find cream too heavy on its own.
The practical answer is to start with cream alone and see how your hair responds. If you want more definition or longevity, layer a gel on top while the cream is still wet. That combination (cream for moisture and softness, gel for structure and hold) is what many curl stylists consider the gold standard.

12 Best Curl Creams, Tested by HairstylistsBest Budget: Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Defining Cream, $5.50CVS
Shop It at CVSBoth Cavalcante and Cooper land on this one independently, which is a meaningful endorsement at this price point. Cooper calls it "an OG product" that's affordable, widely available and delivers "consistent definition across curl patterns."
Cavalcante loves that this budget option gives great bounce and definition without any stickiness. For a formula you can use generously without doing math every time you reach for it, this is the one.

Best Overall: Rizos Curls Curl Defining Cream, $24Amazon
Shop It at AmazonCooper's go-to across wavy and curly patterns, and the reason is the balance it strikes. "This cream gives amazing curl definition, moisture, and shine without weighing the hair down," she says. For an overall pick, versatility is everything—a formula that works across a range of curl types without requiring a different technique for each one is genuinely valuable.
Best for Fine Curls: Ouai Curl Crème, $30Amazon
Shop It on AmazonFine curls have one enemy above all others: weight. Cooper loves this one specifically because it defines curls without flattening them—a balance that's harder to achieve than it sounds.
Cavalcante echoes the principle: fine curls need lightweight formulas, otherwise they simply fall flat. This one delivers definition and softness without the heaviness that causes fine hair to lose its shape by midday.

Best for Thick Curly Hair: TPH by Taraji Twist & Set Moisture Rich Twisting Cream, $13Amazon
Shop It on AmazonThick curly hair needs a formula with real substance—something that can penetrate dense strands and deliver moisture without sitting on top of the hair. Cooper specifically chose this for its ability to hydrate and control frizz even on the thickest textures.
Richer formulas with more oils and butters are exactly what thicker hair needs, Cavalcante says, and this one delivers that without being so heavy it becomes impossible to distribute evenly.
Best for Wavy Hair: Bumble and Bumble Curl Light Defining Cream, $32Amazon
Shop It on AmazonWavy hair occupies a tricky middle ground: enough texture to benefit from a curl cream but often fine enough that the wrong formula kills the wave entirely. Cavalcante specifically recommends this one for waves because it's "very light, enhances waves without making them heavy." It's the kind of formula that works with the natural movement of the hair rather than trying to impose curl definition on a texture that doesn't need that level of intervention.

Best for Coily Hair: Mielle Avocado & Tamanu Anti-Frizz Curl Perfector, $14Amazon
Shop It on AmazonTighter curl patterns need moisture, definition and stretch—and Cooper's pick here delivers all three. She loves how this formula "is highly moisturizing, gives strong definition, and stretches tighter curl patterns" without leaving any heavy residue. Avocado oil is a particularly well-suited ingredient for coily textures because it's a heavier, more nourishing oil that coily hair can actually absorb rather than having it sit on the surface.
Best for Frizz Control: Kinky-Curly Curling Custard, $23Target
Shop It at TargetCooper's holy grail for frizz, and the custard texture is part of why it works so well. "It smooths frizz while defining curls and adding luster," she says. The formula coats each curl consistently, which is key to frizz control—gaps in coverage are where humidity sneaks in and causes flyaways.
For anyone who lives in a humid climate or whose curls tend to expand throughout the day, this is the formula to keep in rotation.

Best Hydrating: Briogeo Curl Charisma Leave-In Defining Cream, $12Amazon
Shop It on AmazonCavalcante recommends this one specifically for its hydration payoff, and Cooper adds that it "hydrates hair, gives consistent curl definition, and helps improve elasticity." That elasticity piece is worth paying attention to—curls with good elasticity spring back into shape instead of stretching out and staying limp.
For anyone whose curls feel dry, brittle or lack that snap-back quality, a hydrating cream that also works on elasticity is the more targeted fix.

Best for Wash-and-Go: Mizani True Textures Curl Define Pudding, $26Amazon
Shop It on AmazonThe wash-and-go category demands a formula that can do a lot with minimal effort—define, hold and moisture all in one shot without requiring multiple layering steps or a complicated application process. Cavalcante's pick here delivers "great definition with enough hold for low-maintenance styling," which is exactly the brief.
If your ideal morning routine involves washing, applying one product and walking out the door, this pudding-texture formula is the closest thing to that dream.
Amazon
Shop It on AmazonThis is Cavalcante's recommendation for compromised curls because most curl creams work on the outside of the strand; this one works on the internal bond structure, strengthening while defining.
For curls that have been through bleaching, color services or heavy heat styling, that structural support is what separates a product that just makes hair look better temporarily from one that actually helps it recover. It smooths, seals and leaves curls noticeably softer than before.
Best Lightweight: Living Proof Curl Definer, $38Amazon
Shop It on AmazonCavalcante describes this as "very airy, defines without buildup"—which is high praise for anyone who has experienced the way heavier curl creams can leave a residue that compounds over wash cycles.
This formula is genuinely weightless in application while still providing enough definition to be useful. For fine or low-porosity curls that tend to reject heavier products entirely, this is the formula that proves lightweight doesn't have to mean ineffective.
Best for Curl Definition: Pattern Styling Cream, $29Amazon
Shop It on AmazonCooper's pick for anyone who wants curls that look intentional—defined, shiny and soft without feeling product-heavy. "This cream is great for providing shiny, defined curls with a soft, touchable finish," she says.
For curls that tend to look undefined no matter how much product gets applied, the issue is often formula choice rather than application technique. A cream specifically engineered for definition, like this one, tends to be the fix.

'Jeopardy!’ Champ Calls Out Immigration Policies After Shocking Defeat
Jeopardy! contestant JamieDing’s winning streak ended on Monday, April 27. The contestant earned $882,605 across 31 straight games. He is now ranked fifth for most consecutive games won and highest all-time winnings in regular-season play.
After his loss on the game show, Ding told People, “As an immigrant and a person of color, I was able to become part of the history of an American institution."
"Jeopardy! really is an institution and America's turning 250 years old and the federal government is going after immigrants in a way unlike anything that we've seen in the recent past," he added. "So I hope that immigrants can be seen in a positive light too."
His return week after week meant Jeopardy! viewers began to expect Ding. He built a community of fans.
"I kept hearing how it was bringing people together, and I love that very much. I've heard people say, 'It's nice to have something positive on TV!'" said Ding.
The long-running champion’s last game was a unique one. He lost to GregShahade by 13,990 points.
"I think my last game is unusual, because I was a super champ, but I also lost in a runaway, which I feel like is the first time that ever happened," he said. "It almost makes me feel better about the thing because there wasn't really one clue or whatever that everything hinged on."
Ding shared the other surprising benefit of being unable to come back from his loss.
“It being a runaway means that I got to write a goodbye message instead of nothing at all. I wouldn’t have done that if there had even been a chance of me coming out with the victory.”
Instead of answering final jeopardy, Ding wrote "TTFN" (ta ta for now), signaling he plans to make his way back to the Jeopardy! stage.
While the former contestant would have enjoyed keeping the streak going, he is grateful for his 31 games.
"Part of me is not OK and thinks that it would've been nice to go for more games. But on the other hand, it could have ended much earlier than it did," Ding said. "There were several people who were really strong and played well, and had a couple of things broken differently, I would have been done for weeks ago. So I'm both upset and pleased. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened kind of thing."

Remember the days when furniture really only needed to serve one purpose? Maybe it was to provide a place to sit or store things, or perhaps it was a desk to work at or a table to set out dinner. Life seems to be asking more and more from us each day, and we're passing that same demand onto the very stuff that outfits our homes.
Right now I can't even begin to tell you how many things I have plugged in next to my bed. At the very least there's always my phone charger, lamp and a tower fan, but sometimes there's also a laptop being charged and a white noise machine. It's ... a lot.

Depending on the piece, it can feel modern, vintage or even a little Art Deco, but overall it just gives off an elevated look.
Target shoppers love this piece, and now is your chance to get it on sale. They say it's sturdy and pretty darn spacious.
"It holds everything I need it to," says a customer in their review. "Even my large laptop with room to spare. The drawers flow very fluidly."
