The 2026 Met Gala Is Already Stirring Buzz—Here’s Everything We Know
We’re not the first to say it, but it’s true: The Met Gala is fashion's Super Bowl, Oscar night and New Year's Eve all rolled into one impossibly glamorous Monday in May. For 2026, the first Monday falls on May 4, and the theme has already sparked debate among fashion insiders for being either brilliantly open-ended or frustratingly vague, depending on who you ask. (At least it’s not boring!) "Costume Art" is the exhibition theme, with a dress code of "Fashion Is Art"—which could mean anything from sculptural gowns that look like museum installations to archival couture pulled from fashion house vaults. It all sounds thrilling to us and we’re already stocking up on snacks.
What makes this year particularly exciting is the return of Beyoncé(!!!), who's co-chairing the event—marking her first Met Gala appearance in about a decade. As we all know, when Beyoncé shows up to anything, it's an event, darling. When she returns to the Met Gala after years away? That's history, honey! She'll be joined by fellow co-chairs Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and the ultimate gatekeeper Anna Wintour, who continues her reign as the gala's longtime organizer and makes the final decision on the guests who'll be admitted through those famous museum doors.
The guest list is always kept secret until the red carpet unfolds, but approximately 450 people will receive the coveted invitation. Based on the host committee and past attendance patterns, we can make educated guesses about who'll show up—from host committee members like Sabrina Carpenterto highly-anticipated regulars like Rihanna, Zendaya and Kim Kardashian. The exhibition itself will feature roughly 400 objects exploring the relationship between fashion and the human body, which means we should expect body-focused couture, molded silhouettes and garments that blur the line between clothing and sculpture.
Here's everything we know so far about the 2026 Met Gala.
When Is the 2026 Met Gala?Mark your calendars for Monday, May 4, 2026.
The Met Gala always takes place on the first Monday in May and it's a tradition as reliable as Anna Wintour's signature bob and sunglasses. The timing isn't random—it kicks off the opening week of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibition. This year, it will run from May 10, 2026 through Jan. 10, 2027.
What Time Does the 2026 Met Gala Start? The red carpet typically begins around 6:00 p.m. ET and celebrity arrivals generally continue for the next two hours. After the carpet wraps, guests go inside for dinner and a private exhibition preview. If you're planning to watch the livestream, set your alarm for just before six o'clock so you're settled in once things kick off.

What Is the 2026 Met Gala Theme? The exhibition theme is "Costume Art" with a dress code of "Fashion Is Art."
The theme explores the relationship between fashion and the human body, examining how clothing functions as a form of artistic expression across history. The accompanying exhibition will feature roughly 400 objects—about 200 garments and 200 artworks—displayed in pairs to highlight the connections between fashion and visual art.
The exhibition will also dive into representations of the body in art, aging and maternity in fashion, and broader concepts of anatomy and identity. It's an ambitious curatorial concept that fashion historians will love and celebrities will have to interpret through what they wear on the red carpet.
The dress code "Fashion Is Art" is intentionally broad, which has sparked mixed reactions. Some critics have called it the "laziest ever" and too vague, while others believe the open-ended nature could lead to the most creative red carpet looks we've seen in years. Fashion insiders are predicting sculptural garments, wearable art pieces, museum-inspired looks and archival couture that makes a statement about fashion as fine art.

Who Is Co-Chairing the 2026 Met Gala?Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour are this year's co-chairs.
The biggest news is Beyoncé's return. As co-chair, she'll be front and center for the first time in about a decade, making her one of the most anticipated arrivals of the night. When Beyoncé commits to an event after years away, you know the looks will be legendary.
Kidman brings her history of taking fashion risks on red carpets, while Williams represents the athletic-meets-high-fashion crossover that the Met Gala increasingly celebrates. And of course, Wintour continues her role as the gala's longtime organizer—if you're there, it's because she approved your invitation.

Who Is on the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee? The host committee includes major names across music, fashion and sports.
Confirmed members include Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, LISA, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Zoë Kravitz and Anthony Vaccarello (Saint Laurent's creative director). Additional committee members include A'ja Wilson, Misty Copeland, Lena Dunham, Alex Consani, Gwendoline Christie, Elizabeth Debicki and Paloma Elsesser.
Host committee members are confirmed to attend the gala and help promote the event, which means you will see all of these stars on the red carpet.
Who Will Be at the 2026 Met Gala? The full guest list is never released ahead of time, but about 450 people receive invitations.
Between the co-chairs (Beyoncé, Kidman, Williams and Wintour) and the host committee (Carpenter, Doja Cat, LISA, Smith, Kravitz, Wilson, Copeland, Dunham, Christie, Debicki, Elsesser, Consani, Taylor and Anthony Vaccarello), there are already nearly 20 confirmed attendees.Jeff Bezosand Lauren Sánchez Bezos will also be there as honorary chairs and lead sponsors of both the gala and the exhibition.
As for the rest of the 450-person guest list, that remains a mystery until the red carpet unfolds. Historically regular attendees expected to return include Rihanna (who's basically Met Gala royalty at this point!), Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Kardashian and Pharrell Williams—though none are officially confirmed yet. Harry Styles is also rumored to return for the first time since 2019, as he's currently in the middle of a major album promotional tour. And with Venus co-chairing, fans are hoping sisterSerena Williamsmight make an appearance as well!
With The Devil Wears Prada 2 hitting theaters just days earlier on May 1, we're also expecting to see cast members from the film and are hoping to see "Runway" performers Lady Gaga and Doechii on the carpet.
The mix typically includes movie stars, musicians, fashion designers, athletes, models, politicians and tech figures. Basically, if you're influential in culture right now and Anna Wintour approves, you might get an invite. Ooh la la!
Who Are the Celebrities Banned From the Met Gala? While the full "banned" list has never been officially confirmed, Anna Wintour named one person she would never invite back during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden: Donald Trump. Other celebrities who are rumored to be banned include Tim Gunn—who shared an unflattering story about the Vogue legend—and Kanye Westfollowing his antisemitic remarks. The newest rumored name on the list is said to be Nicki Minaj, who did not receive an invite to the 2026 gala.
And some previous attendees have spoken out against the annual event, only to return years later. For example, in 2018, Demi Lovato toldBillboard she had a terrible experience. "I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink," she shared. However, she came back in 2024.
Demi Lovato described the Met Gala as "very cliquey," but gave it another shot in 2024.Other stars who didn't have the best things to say include Gwyneth Paltrow—who also returned in later years—and Amy Schumer,Tina Fey and Zayn Malik.
How Much Does It Cost to Attend the Met Gala? The cost to attend has skyrocketed in recent years. In 2024, individual tickets hit $75,000—up from $50,000 in 2023 and $35,000 in 2022. A standard 10-person table starts at $350,000.
But most celebrities don't actually pay for their own tickets because fashion houses and brands will purchase tables and then invite celebrities to sit with them, with the expectation that those guests will wear one of the brand's designs. The gala is also a fundraiser for the Costume Institute. In 2024, the event raised over $26 million in a single night.
Where Does the 2026 Met Gala Take Place? The event itself happens at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, specifically benefiting the museum's Costume Institute. The famous red carpet unfolds on the museum's front steps (you've seen the photos!), while the exclusive dinner and exhibition preview happen inside. (And, of course, all the cool girls hang in the bathroom!)

Who Is Sponsoring the 2026 Met Gala?Saint Laurent, Condé Nast and major donors—including Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos—are backing the event.
The financial support from luxury brands and high-profile donors helps fund both the gala itself and the Costume Institute's exhibitions throughout the year. Saint Laurent's involvement as a primary sponsor means we'll likely see the brand heavily represented on the red carpet.
How To Watch the 2026 Met GalaVogue has confirmed that its sixth annual Met Gala livestream will kick off at 6:00 p.m. ET on May 4 and will stream live across its digital platforms—including YouTube and TikTok. Emma Chamberlain will return as Vogue's red carpet correspondent, while Ashley Graham, Cara Delevingne and La La Anthony will serve as livestream hosts.
The livestream is free and covers the arrivals, giving you front-row access to every look, interview and moment as celebrities make their way up those famous museum steps. It's the closest most of us will ever get to actually attending—but honestly, watching from your couch with commentary and close-ups of the details might be better than being there. Plus, there's popcorn!
The Smoky Mountain Dream That Dolly Built Turns 40 Today
On May 3, 1986, a small theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, underwent a transformation that would change the travel landscape of the South forever. That was the day Dolly Parton officially opened Dollywood, realizing her lifelong dream of bringing world-class family entertainment—and thousands of jobs—to her "Tennessee Mountain Home." Today, as the park celebrates its milestone 40th anniversary, it stands as a global powerhouse that has never lost its local soul.
The story of how the park got its name is quintessential Dolly. Before it was Dollywood, the site was a small attraction called Silver Dollar City. When Dolly decided to partner with the owners, she brought her trademark wit to the rebranding. As she shared on her official website:
"A few years back, when I first started seeing the Hollywood sign, I kept thinking how cute it would be if I could change the H to a D—and see how long it would take anybody to notice. It just popped into my mind that it would be a good name for a park."

Forty years later, tourists from all over the world flock to the 160-acre destination for more than just the roller coasters. While the park is home to award-winning thrillers like Big Bear Mountain and the wooden wonder Lightning Rod, it’s the sensory experience that keeps people coming back.
The scent of the legendary Grist Mill Cinnamon Bread is a tourist attraction in its own right—fans often wait in line longer for a warm loaf of pull-apart bread than they do for the rides.
As Dollywood cruises through its landmark 40th anniversary, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. The park is currently gearing up for its most ambitious expansion yet in 2026 with the debut of NightFlight Expedition. Representing a staggering $50 million investment—the largest for a single attraction in the park's history—this new experience promises to elevate the Smoky Mountain adventure to new heights.

But if you ask any regular visitor, the true "secret sauce" of Dollywood isn't the food or the thrills; it’s the hospitality. The park is consistently ranked as one of the friendliest on the planet.
Unlike the frantic, high-pressure energy of many mega-resorts, Dollywood leans into a slower, more authentic pace. On Reddit, one guest perfectly captured why the park has such a dedicated following: "The park is beautiful, extremely clean, the staff is friendly, the food is actually really good, and the rides are so wholesome and well decorated. I sort of expected the performers and craftsmen/artisans to be kind of cheesy but the shops at Dollywood felt significantly more authentic to the mountain culture than walking the Gatlinburg strip. Everything was such a pleasant surprise."
Whether you’re there to explore the replica of the two-room cabin where Dolly grew up or to experience a world-class music festival, Dollywood remains a testament to the power of a local dream. Happy 40th to the "Friendliest Town in the Smokies."

1978 No. 1 One-Hit Wonder Has a Sad Backstory—But There's More To It
In 1978, Nick Gilder had a No. 1 hit with the single “Hot Child in the City.” The song, which appeared on the singer’s second solo album, City Nights, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Oct. 28, 1978, following a long climb to the top that lasted 21 weeks,
While Gilder had previously had a 1976 hit, “Roxy Roller” as lead singer of the Canadian glam band Sweeney Todd, “Hot Child” was his first and only chart-topping single as a solo artist—and it didn’t come easy. According to The Billboard Book of No. 1 Hits, “Hot Child in the City” once set the record as the song that took the longest amount of time to reach No. 1.
Written by Gilder and his former Sweeney Todd bandmate Jim McCulloch, the song also came with controversy due to its title and lyrics. Gilder once told Rolling Stone the song was inspired after he saw the many young prostitutes on the streets in Los Angeles after he moved there from Canada.
"I've seen a lot of young girls, 15 and 16, walking down Hollywood Boulevard with their pimps,” he told the outlet, per Stereogum. “Their home environment drove them to distraction, so they ran away, only to be trapped by something even worse. It hurts to see that, so I tried writing from the perspective of a lecher -- in the guise of an innocent pop song."
The outlet questioned the creepy tone of the song and suggested that Gilder could have called it "Hot Girl In The City" in lieu of “Child.”
Speaking with the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Gilder backed away from the prostitution backstory. “In Los Angeles, you see every walk of life ….You see a lot of would-be actors, the adventurous, the disenfranchised,” he explained. “[The song is] a celebration of life, ultimately, of going out and finding yourself. L.A. was a magnet for people trying to find themselves. I wanted to write this song about what I’d experienced and seen.”
Nick Gilder wrote ‘Hot Child in the City’ fastIn an interview with Classic Bands, Gilder said it didn’t take “very long” to write “Hot Child in the City.” “I just sat down and wrote the lyrics one day,” he shared. “I think I sang the bass line riff to Jim and then he picked up the ball and carried it and we put the song together. I think it was almost completed within the first day of starting it.”
He also shared that “Roxy Roller” was written in a similar way, but that it was about a different type of working girl.
“Well, really it's about a gal who worked at a movie theatre and was showing people to their seats, an usherette,” he said in 2014. “But I've heard so many interpretations, you think, I don't know if I want to talk about what songs are about because some of the explanations are hysterical. ‘Did she wear roller skates?’ ‘Roller blades?...’Was she a high roller?’ It never ends. And that's when you know you've got a good song, when people's ears perk up and they've got questions, I guess.”
Of “Hot Child in the City’s” success, Gilder expressed regret that he didn’t jump on it more by writing more songs like it.
“It was a really big hit that summer,” he recalled. “It was the song that took the longest to get to number one. But it actually, finally did make it to number one. It was around in the early spring, and it went to number one towards the end of October. It was there all year, gradually climbing up the charts, which is kind of neat.”
The Virginia Landmark That Became a Premier Destination for Coaster Enthusiasts Turns 51 Today
On a 280-acre plot in Doswell, Virginia, a new era of East Coast travel began more than five decades ago. Arriving as a "sister park" to Ohio’s Kings Island, Kings Dominion was designed to be a massive undertaking that would change the Mid-Atlantic landscape forever.
One of its earliest claims to fame was the Rebel Yell (now known as Racer 75). This wooden titan was more than just a ride; it was a pop-culture icon. It was so famous in the 1970s that it served as a primary filming location for the 1977 suspense movie Rollercoaster, cementing the park's status as a national destination.

As the official park history records, the vision was a success from day one: "It didn't take long for King Dominion to be recognized as the perfect family destination location in the Mid-Atlantic region." When the gates officially opened on May 3, 1975, the park offered fifteen original attractions, including a 1/3 scale replica of the Eiffel Tower and the twin-track racing coaster that started it all.
In 2018, as part of a park-wide "revitalization" effort, the ride was rebranded as Racer 75. While the name change coincided with a broader national conversation regarding Confederate-themed iconography in the South, the park leaned into the coaster’s heritage for its new identity.
The moniker is a clever triple tribute: it honors the ride’s 1975 debut, reflects its classic "racer-style" twin-track design, and gives a stylized nod to ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts). The organization was actually founded in 1978 following a legendary coaster marathon on this very attraction (hence the rACEr styling). To keep the legend alive for another 50 years, the park has committed to ongoing track replacements, ensuring the "new" Racer 75 offers a much smoother experience than its predecessor.
Today, the park remains a mecca for thrill-seekers, housing Pantherian (formerly known as Intimidator 305). As one of the world's most intense 'giga-coasters,' it reaches speeds of 90 mph and stands as a testament to the park’s evolution from traditional charm to high-octane modern engineering.
But for many travelers, the park's soul is still found in its original 1975 roots. On Reddit, fans often point to the unique setting of the grounds; as one commenter put it, "KD is heavily surrounded by Virginia forest... the greenery adds a ton of character, and there's enough isolation from I-95 that you can feel like you're somewhere special." Others agree that the park has "maintained a lot of its charm" over the decades, noting that the "vibes at KD are fantastic," whether you're racing through the trees or simply watching the log flume go by from a rocking chair.

Whether you’re there to conquer the 300-foot drops or just to enjoy the "Old Virginia" section of the park, Kings Dominion remains a cornerstone of American summer road trips. Happy 51st to the park that put Virginia on the coaster map.

Quote of the Day: Psychologist Carl Rogers on Self-Acceptance, Change and Personal Growth
Known as “one of the founders of humanistic psychology,” per the American Psychological Association (APA), Carl Rogers developed the person-centered, or client-centered, approach to psychotherapy. This type of therapy is probably what most of us are used to, as it’s therapy where “the therapist acts as a facilitator in sessions, per VeryWellMind. And not only did Rogers create client-centered therapy, but he also believed that therapists should accept clients without judging them, which is called “unconditional positive regard.” And for Parade’s quote of the day, Rogers’s words about self-acceptance really hit on a good therapeutic approach.
Rogers was born in 1902 in Oak Park, IL, as the fourth child of six children. His father was a civil engineer, and his mother was a housewife. Rogers went on to do very well in school, even skipping two grades—kindergarten and first grade. Initially, he was going to go to college for theology, enrolling in a seminary college. However, he started to question his faith after attending a student seminar on religion, and was inspired to make the move over to psychology after taking a course taught by Leta Stetter Hollingworth, who is best known for researching “gifted” children and studying the psychology of women.
That switch made history, as Rogers went on to become one of the most distinguished minds in psychology, even becoming APA President in 1947. In addition to client-centered therapy and unconditional positive regard, some of his most influential theories included self-actualization, the development of self, congruence and the “fully-functioning person,” per VeryWellMind. Similar to Erik Erikson’s stages of development, Rogers believed that developing a “health self-concept” was an ongoing process that was molded by someone’s life and what they experience.
So in today’s quote, Rogers speaks about the concept of accepting yourself where you’re at in that growing process. And in doing so, you’re able to continue evolving and changing.
Quote of the Day by Carl RogersCanvaPro/Parade
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
This quote comes from Rogers’s book On Becoming a Person: A Therapist’s View of Psychotherapy. It’s in the first chapter, called “This Is Me,” under Part I, “Speaking Personally.” In this chapter, he talks about the “development of [his] professional thinking and personal philosophy,” and it combines two of his talks that he considers “very personal.”
This work was first published in 1961 and is one of his best-known books. It’s a collection of “essential essays” by Rogers and touches on several of his main theories.
Related: Quote of the Day: Psychologist Angela Duckworth on Effort, Talent and ‘Unmet Potential'
Deeper Meaning of Carl Rogers’s Quote—Self-Acceptance and Personal GrowthBefore this quote, in the book, Rogers shares a “learning,” or lesson: “I find I am more effective when I can listen [acceptingly] to myself, and can be myself.” In listening to himself more, he is better at figuring out how he feels in any given situation or moment. Essentially, he’s better off and can accept himself more easily when he lets himself “be what I am,” Rogers writes.
Right before the above quote, he writes that “this must seem to some like a very strange direction in which to move.” But he then explains that it “seems” to him “to have value,” because: "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
He then says that, thanks to his clients and through his own experiences, he learned: “That we cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.”
So, with his beliefs and the meaning behind his main theories as context, this quote means exactly what it says: you can’t continue to learn and grow if you can’t accept yourself for where you are right now. With all your flaws and failures, in your incompleteness and humanity, you need to accept yourself for every bit of it. Because once you’re honest with yourself about where you are and who you are, you’ll know what work you need to do to transform. You can change and evolve into a better version of yourself once you know what you need to work on.

More Quotes from Carl Rogers- “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right-hand corner.’ I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
- “The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change.”
- “What is most personal is most universal.”
- “What I am is good enough if I would only be it openly.”
- “a person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.”
- “I'm not perfect... But I'm enough.”

1976 No. 1 Hit Ranked Among Best 'Bangers to Help You Move on' Was Fueled by a Painful Divorce
Breaking up is hard to do, but a little bit of humor can help. That's what Paul Simon discovered, anyway, and it sent him straight to #1.
"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" wasn't just the only chart-topping single of Simon's late-1975 album Still Crazy After All These Years, it was the only song of his solo career to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (which happened on February 7, 1976). Simon wrote the tune after his divorce from first wife Peggy, and while he later said she wasn't the "lover" in the song, it's definitely about someone who's ready to move on from their relationship.
As Simon told author Timothy White, he came up with the idea for the song one morning in his Central Park apartment.
"The opening words just popped into my mind," Simon said, per The Independent. "'The problem is all inside your head, she said to me...'. That was the first thing I thought of."
Simon got the idea for the comedic verses while playing a rhyming game with his 3-year-old son, Harper, ad-libbing the suggestions for extricating oneself from a situationship: "Slip out the back, Jack / Make a new plan, Stan."
'50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' reflected the rising divorce rates of the time"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was — and is — a refreshing change from the usual love-gone-wrong song. That's why when TIME included the track on a roundup of 30 Best Breakup Songs of All Time, it was in the category of "Bangers to Help You Move on."
Tom Breihan of Stereogum called it the "single silliest divorce song ever put on record," acknowledging its influence on listeners at the time.
Paul Simon and son HarperPhoto by Hulton Deutsch on Getty Images
"The divorce rate was skyrocketing by the mid-'70s, so maybe that had something to do with the song's popularity," he wrote.
"A whole lot of the baby boomers who'd gotten married straight out of college — as well as those who, like Simon, were slightly older than the boomers — were starting to figure out that they didn't have to stay with the same person for their entire lives. Heard from a certain perspective, '50 Ways To Leave Your Lover' works as a celebration of that ability to get yourself free, and of the loss of stigma around it."
As Simon sang...no need to be coy.

2007 Blockbuster Named 'Funniest Movie Ever' Was Inspired by Nostalgic Hits
"I am McLovin!" is perhaps the only family-friendly one-liner from an iconic 2007 comedy still celebrated today.
The R-rated Superbad was released back in 2007 to both critical and commercial acclaim, ultimately making $170 million globally against a budget that was just $20 million max.
Added to all the fan and critics' appreciation, OnBuy Movies once compiled IMDb data to ultimately determine that Superbad is the "funniest film of all time," according to Cinemablend.
View this post on InstagramThis August will mark 19 years since the teen sex comedy hit theaters, and fans have certainly seen it play over and over again on TV in the years since — but hopefully on channels like HBO, where the constant F-bombs don't have to be edited out. And in this modern age, viewers can probably find the coming-of-age film on various streaming platforms for an equally expletive-laced experience.
Millennials can probably recite entire scenes from Superbad — starring Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and more — by heart, even to this day and even if they haven't seen the raunch-fest in years.
For anyone from the baby-boomer generation, meanwhile, seeing Superbad might have felt a bit nostalgic.
“We were setting out to make another Dazed and Confused, or Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” Hill, 42, once told the Orlando Sentinel at the time of the film's release. “Fast Times we looked up to as being particularly real.”
“And American Graffiti, with underage guys trying to buy liquor and all this other stuff happening in one night, that’s obviously another inspiration,” Cera, 37, also told the newspaper. "A whole generation was able to relate to what they saw in that as a true version of their experience at that age."
The film, directed by Greg Mottola, is also based on Rogen and co-writer Evan Goldberg's high school experiences and was reportedly a passion project for the duo.

1988 Record Ranked Among ‘Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time’ Contained the Band’s Only No. 1 Hit
There’s no question that Poison has several iconic songs that have stood the test of time. Take, for example, the sultry song “Unskinny Bop,” the party anthem “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” and the lustful “Take Dirty to Me.” Surprisingly, however, none of those tunes ever became a No. 1 hit.
The only song that topped the charts for the ‘80s glam metal band was “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” which has been widely regarded as their signature song. Written as a collaborative effort by the classic members of the group, made up of C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall, Bret Michaels, and Rikki Rockett, the power ballad appears on Poison’s second studio album — and most successful — titled, Open Up and Say… Ahh!
Officially released on May 3, 1988, though some sources claim April 27th as the drop date, the full-length project followed Poison’s debut LP, Look What the Cat Dragged In. Although the collection, produced by Tom Werman, wasn’t the band’s formal introduction to the world, Open Up and Say… Ahh! Made a big statement. So much so that retail stores like Walmart refused to sell the product due to the distasteful cover art, which was deemed inappropriate, according to UltimateClassicRock.com.
These days, that likely wouldn’t be the case, but at the time, the image featured a demon-like figure with a protruding tongue. Censored versions of the album art were later released, showcasing a revised cover that hid the offensive portions of the figure’s face.
And, though the album’s art was once controversial, the project has gone on to become the band’s biggest, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard’s 200 chart. The collection also went platinum in its release year and hit 5x platinum by 1991. Additionally, Rolling Stone ranked Open Up and Say… Ahh! at the No. 26 spot on their 2019 list of ‘50 Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time.’
Featured songs from the album, “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” “Fallen Angel,” and a Loggins and Messina cover of “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” all reached the Top 20, while “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Emo Rock Star Responds to Taylor Swift Name-Dropping Him in New Interview
Taylor Swift recently named some of her biggest influences when it comes to songwriting, giving a special shoutout to Dashboard Confessional.
While sitting down with the New York Times for a new interview about songwriting, Swift explained that she was heavily impacted by the lyricism in emomusic. She specifically mentioned Chris Carrabba, the lead singer and primary songwriter for Dashboard Confessional, who has now responded to Swift's comments.
Carrabba reposted a clip from Swift's interview on X (formerly Twitter) to say, "Swift has been "so kind to me over the years."
"To hear her express how my songs affected her was a lovely surprise," he continued, while adding, "Everything is connected. I feel fortunate to be a link in the chain."

Beloved ’80s Actor and Brother of Popular Newscaster Turns 80
David Suchet was one of the notable actors who shaped British drama following his iconic character in the hit series Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
As he turns 80, here’s a look back at the most significant highlights from his decades-long acting career.
Born on May 2, 1946, in Paddington, London, being in front of the camera was nothing unusual in the Suchet family, as his mother, Joan Patricia Jarché, was a stage actress, while his older brother John Suchet is a renowned British broadcaster, author and journalist.
Although his mother had a background in the performing arts, acting was strongly opposed by his father, who dismissed it as “playing games” rather than a serious career.
However, at the age of 16, he joined the National Youth Theatre after being encouraged by a teacher who recognized his potential.
David Suchet’s early acting career was rooted in theatre, where he trained for years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before spending another four years in repertory theatre, where he made his professional debut in 1969 at the Gateway Theatre in Chester.
It was in the early 1970s when he joined the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), appearing in productions such as As You Like It, The Tempest, and playing Iago in Othello and Richard II.

At the time, he was also transitioning to on-screen projects with his TV debut in a guest role in the series Public Eye.
In the mid-1980s, David Suchet had his breakthrough role portraying Sigmund Freud in the mini-series Freud, followed by another memorable performance in the 1985 cult comedy Blott on the Landscape.
David Suchet Says His Brother John Suchet Urged Him Not to Accept Poirot OfferFrom being a theatre actor to a rising star, David Suchet further cemented his status on screen after landing his now-iconic role as Hercule Poirot in Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
However, before accepting the role, the actor previously revealed that his older brother had warned him not to take the offer.
"When I was first offered the job that came through, I wasn’t sure because my only acquaintance with the character had been through other depictions on film or television and they tended to be rather light and slightly comical,” he recalled, as cited by media organization RTÉ. “I didn’t know quite whether this should be the next move for me. I rang my brother John, and I said to him this is what I’ve been offered. He said, 'Hercule Poirot? Dave, you are a classical theatre actor. Will you take my advice? Don’t touch it with a bargepole.’”
Despite John Suchet’s strong warning, he carefully weighed the decision and studied the character.
It was then that he realized that the role had never been portrayed in a way that would truly show the depth and complexity he found in the books.
"I thought I would read every single novel and very soon I realised that the character of Hercule Poirot was somebody that I’d never properly met, and if I hadn’t met him then I didn’t think that his readership had either or the future television audience,” David Suchet explained, adding, "I had a mission, and my mission was to become the Hercule Poirot for Agatha Christie."
Lo and behold, his bold decision to accept the role earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 1991 BAFTA TV Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Television Society for his outstanding performance in playing Hercule Poirot for 24 years.
