Julie McCullough’s time on Growing Pains was cut short.

In the late 1980s, the actress played Julie Costello, the girlfriend-turned-fiancée of Mike Seaver (Kirk Cameron) on the ABC sitcom for two seasons. But when she showed up to shoot her character’s wedding episode, she found out she was no longer going to be on the show.

In a clip from The Patrick Labyorsheaux podcast uploaded in August 2026, McCullough, 61, revealed she was blindsided when she discovered she was written out of the hit comedy series.

In the interview, McCullough recalled returning to the set after a break and seeing something that stunned her.

“So, my next episodes we’re supposed to be getting married, and I’m like happy to see everybody,” she shared. “And I noticed they had my set… I had a set, I had my own apartment on the show, and they were breaking my apartment stuff down. And I thought that wasn’t right.”

“So I see that. I get the script and I  go off, you know. And I’m sitting reading the script, and I read the script, and I’m written off the show,” she revealed. “Right before the table read. No words to my managers, no words to my agents, nothing. Literally, we didn’t know. I didn’t know. And that’s how I found out. I had to read the script to find out on the set.”

McCullough recalled that when she auditioned for Growing Pains “everything was great.” But after Christmas break in the fall of 1988, her co-star Cameron became a born-again Christian.

“And it was like he it’s like he wouldn’t talk to me,” she claimed. “Like, he wouldn’t talk to anybody, and it was just completely a different person, you know?”

McCullough alleged that Cameron continued to distance himself from her, and things worsened when old photos from her 1986 Playboy Playmate of the Month photoshoot resurfaced amid her Growing Pains fame.

“We came back from break, and Playboy had asked me to do a pictorial, and I said no,” she shared. “So, they just used old pictures. So, I didn’t pose for it. It was just that they just used old stuff. So, then it’s all over the news, all over the press and the tabloid junk and stuff.”

McCullough appeared in 11 episodes of Growing Pains as the wholesome nanny/college student/fiancée Julie. She received the shocking news about her role while filming the 1989 episode “Mike and Julie’s Wedding,” which ended with Julie leaving Mike at the altar.

McCullough told Hollywood Chicago that she was “heartbroken” over the abrupt end to her Growing Pains role.

“I was written off the show very abruptly because I had posed in Playboy and I was very upset about it,” she shared. “But I had no backbone at the time. I wouldn’t talk about it publicly or to anyone in the press. I just cried to my friends about it. I have good friends and good family.”

In an interview with Wingman magazine, McCullough said that despite her Growing Pains firing, she had no regrets about posing for the magazine.

“I love that I did Playboy. I am proud that I did Playboy,” she said. “I have no misgivings about it whatsoever, and no bad stories about doing it whatsoever. I look back at it even more now with a retro feeling of pride that I did it- especially at a time that was so conservative in the 80’s.”

In addition to sunblock and swimming trunks, The Hollies are bringing their decades-spanning catalog back to the stage—and with it, one song in particular that not only left guitar legend Eric Clapton completely awestruck from its first note, but went on to influence generations of musicians and fans.

1967 Rock Hit Featured in a Manson-Inspired Movie Ranked Greatest Needle Drop Ever

According to Far Out magazine, Clapton is a massive fan of The Hollies’ version of “The Air That I Breathe.” Written by songwriting duo Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, and originally recorded by Hammond for his 1972 debut studio album, It Never Rains in Southern California, Phil Everly later covered the track for his solo album Star Spangled Springer.

It’s Everly’s cover that caught the attention of The Hollies.

“Eric Clapton once said that the first note of ‘The Air That I Breathe’ had more soul than anything he’d ever heard,” Alan Parsons, the legendary recording engineer who worked with The Hollies during those sessions, said.

With The Hollies’ version, the band completely transformed the Hammond original into a soaring power ballad at Abbey Road Studios. With electric guitar by Tony Hicks and acoustic rhythm guitar by Terry Sylvester, the track was then elevated by an orchestral arrangement courtesy of Christopher Gunning and enormous tom-tom overdubs via Bobby Elliott.

1970 Rock Classic, Written About Another Man’s Wife, Became a Timeless Anthem

Released in 1974, the song became a global hit. Climbing to No. 2 in the U.K., it reached No. 6 in the U.S. and No. 2 in Australia. It also reached the Top 10 across several more countries, including South Africa and Canada, selling millions of copies worldwide and becoming The Hollies’ last major hit a decade after their initial British Invasion peak.

A masterpiece of structural tension, pioneering studio production, and raw emotional resonance, the slow-build track reached another generation of rock musicians nearly two decades later.

Radiohead‘s 1992 debut single, “Creep,” borrowed elements of “The Air That I Breathe,” including its chord progression and melody. It sounded so much like the original that legal action resulted in Hammond and Hazlewood being added as co-writers of “Creep.” Hammond later said Radiohead had been honest about the similarities, allowing the matter to be settled amicably.

“Radiohead agreed that they had actually taken it,” Hammond said, via Guitar World. “Because they were honest, they weren’t sued to the point of saying, ‘We want the whole thing.’ So we ended up just getting a little piece of it.”

The Hammond/Hazlewood/Radiohead copyright issue even made its way onto the big screen in 2024 with A24‘s high-concept horror film Heretic, which cheekily uses the song’s cross-generational history as a narrative driver.

Since its inception, “The Air That I Breathe” has been covered by numerous notable artists. Beyond The Hollies, Everly, and Radiohead, The Mavericks gave the track a country spin in 2003, Simply Red added their soulful color in 1998, and Belinda Carlisle released a vibrant pop version in 2025.

But it’ll be The Hollies’ signature song fans will soon be singing along to again.

What originally began as a radio series, English author Douglas Adams conceived the premise while he was writing the first episode. The radio sitcom ran between 1978 and 1980, and the first novel in the series, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, was published in 1979. Within the first three months, the book sold a quarter of a million copies and was established as a defining title in the science-fiction genre.

At long last, Netflix is taking us back to the most chaotic performing arts academy Nickelodeon ever envisioned. It’s all about Hollywood Arts, the spinoff of the 2010s iconic series Victorious.

Since picking up the series at the end of 2025, Netflix has been extremely quiet about the teen series. In fact, it took a Yahoo copy of a Teen Vogue article that helped to clarify the release date and schedule.

When Will ‘Hollywood Arts’ Come to Netflix?

There isn’t much longer left to wait, but I will say that October is about to get extremely busy. Not only is the broadcast schedule returning in full swing, but that’s when Hollywood Arts will debut on Netflix.

The first 13 of 26 episodes will drop at once on Oct. 15, 2026. Release times are at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on the day, and we know that some of you are going to be staying up all night to watch this one!

It’s rare that a streaming series gets such an order. This could link to the fanbase that it’s connected to, but it could also show the support Netflix is giving the Victorious spinoff. 

On top of that, it’s slated to have a Nickelodeon and Paramount+ release, and this could have safely helped to negotiate a longer first season. After all, it’s produced by Paramount Television Studios for Netflix with the Nickelodeon branding. There is a lot to unpack!

The 13 episodes include the special two-part pilot episode. This was originally filmed as two episodes, but has been combined into one 50-minute episode. The remaining episodes will drop down to half-hour installments. The remaining 13 episodes will be released at a yet-to-be-determined date.

What To Expect in the Return to Hollywood Arts

Fans are heading back to high school with Trina Vega, with Daniella Monet reprising her role. She comes back as a — rather unqualified — substitute teacher, and for someone who is a struggling actress, it’s both exciting and daunting. Erwin Sikowitz has stepped aside to retire, and Trina wants the students to help kickstart her floundering career.

The hardest part is clashing with the new generation. They’re all just as ambitious as Trina and her friends were back in the day, but this generation could have other ways to get to Hollywood and find their path to stardom. We all know this new generation and the digs they make towards those older and the “has-beens,” so fully expect that sort of attitude in Hollywood Arts.

They may just find their stride together, though, as Monet shares, that “Trina’s not afraid to go for it. That’s a really great skill when it comes to opening up the minds of kids who are looking to explore their own talents.”

Co-creator Jake Farrow has shared that Trina isn’t the same teen that Victorious fans grew up with. “She’s matured, and she’s become a better and more likable person.”

How To Transition Your Fragrance Wardrobe From Summer to Fall

Every season has a very specific vibe, so switching fragrances at the end of summer makes total sense.

“Fall is a transitional season. September is very different than November, so you need fragrances that are weather flexible,” Drosopoulos says.

The fragrance pro says patchouli-centered scents work well for fall, as do oakmoss and orris.

“Fall is a unique time of the year as it’s the best season to experiment with layering perfumes. If summer fragrances feel too fresh in fall but you don’t want to part from your bottle, layer them over heavier more winter scents (like woody, spicy gourmand scents) from your collection,” he notes.

How Cooler Weather and Lower Humidity Affect Your Scent’s Longevity

“Cooler temperatures and lower humidity have opposite effects on fragrance performance. Typically, lower temperature would mean less projection and longer staying power. However, lower humidity does exactly the opposite and fragrances evaporate faster,” Drosopoulos says.

A scent’s longevity often has a lot to do with where you apply it on your body.

“When people apply fragrance on the wrists or the neck, what happens is that you get a bit less power but at the same time, the sillage is stronger,” he continues. “Of course, if you live in a humid climate, the scent stays relatively close to the skin so in that case, the fragrance would perform more intimately but of course also last much much longer.”

The Best Fall Fragrance Family for Mature Skin (And Notes To Avoid)

Finding the right fragrance family for fall for mature skin is easier than you may think. Drosopoulos says the chypre family is ideal for the season.

“Chypres combine fresher top notes with heavy base notes, which render them ideal for the time of year. Chypres also come in many different shades so you can experiment with green chypres or lean more towards the spicy/gourmand spectrum and even woods, without going all in yet,” the fragrance pro says.

As for which fragrance notes you might want to avoid, Drosopoulos has some empowering advice.

“Personally, I’m not fond of the idea of a ‘perfume police.’ I really don’t think there are any sound/objective reasons why certain notes should be avoided by anyone,” he says. “At the end of the day, excluding certain notes or styles of perfumes from one’s wardrobe shouldn’t be based on any other grounds than one’s personal aesthetics.”

News of Hayden Panettiere’s death at 36 years old has continued to send shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry, with Panettiere’s many fans and co-stars continuing to take to social media to express their grief and pain over this sudden loss.

Joining those who have posted tributes on social media is Disney Channel child actor Alyson Stoner, who shared a tearful tribute to Panettiere on Instagram. Although Panettiere and Stoner did not have overlapping parts, both actors played the character Kairi in the Kingdom Hearts video game in different installments of the franchise.

Stoner referenced this and more in their video, which seemed to depict them struggling to get through the message they wanted to convey because of their raw emotions over the news. In the video, Stoner said, “I wanted to acknowledge Hayden’s passing. I’ve worked with Hayden. I worked with Hayden’s brother, Jansen [Panettiere]. And from one Kairi to another, I just wanted to acknowledge the tremendous loss, not only for the Kingdom Hearts family but, of course, all of the close loved ones and the millions of lives that Hayden reached.”

They continued, “Sending so much love to Hayden’s family. I’ll be thinking of Hayden and the legacy that she has left. And sending lots of love to the Kingdom Hearts community, too, and how we’re sharing in this loss.” Stoner ended by telling everyone to take care of themselves.

Stoner’s reference to Hayden’s younger brother represents yet another Panettiere family tragedy, as Jansen also passed away at a very early age. His death in 2023, when he was just 28 years old, and her grief as a result are among the things that Hayden wrote about in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, which was released earlier this year. The memoir also addressed Hayden’s experiences with addiction and postpartum depression.

And while barbecue-flavored chips are hardly new territory for Lay’s, adding brisket to the equation makes this release a whole lot more interesting.

The new chips take their inspiration from brisket, the low-and-slow barbecue staple prized for its smoky flavor. It’s a natural next step for a brand that already offers several takes on barbecue, including classic Barbecue, Honey BBQ, Wavy Hickory Barbecue, Sweet Southern Heat Barbecue and Kettle Cooked Mesquite BBQ varieties.

This time, however, Lay’s isn’t simply putting another spin on barbecue seasoning. As shown in the Instagram post by SnackGator, the name on the bag specifically calls out Barbecue Brisket, bringing one of the stars of the smoker into the snack aisle.

The chips are a limited-edition release, so don’t necessarily expect them to become a permanent addition to the Lay’s lineup. They’re already being spotted in stores; however, this means curious snackers can start hunting for a bag now. Retail listings for the new flavor are currently live at both Target and Publix.

Very few songs capture real magic.

In 1965 John Sebastian asked, “Do You Believe in Magic?” and the world responded. The first single released by The Lovin’ Spoonful was an infectious two-minute pop anthem that soared up to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and put the new electric group on the map.

At just 21 years old, frontman Sebastian was already deeply entrenched in the thriving Greenwich Village folk scene. Born and raised in New York City by a noted classical harmonica player and a writer of radio programs, his young life was surrounded by the likes of Woody Guthrie and Burl Ives, whose purely expressed and masterfully crafted songs instilled in Sebastian an appreciation for the art.

Sebastian departed NYU early to pursue his music career, armed with the confidence reserved for the truly gifted. And the proof was in the pudding.

The ambitious and driven singer and songwriter Sebastian played with the Even Dozen Jug Band and The Mugwumps before joining forces with guitarist Zal Yanovsky, bassist Steve Boone and drummer Joe Butler to form The Lovin’ Spoonful. Quickly, the four musicians found their sound in a mixture of folk, jug band, and rock. They were ready to take on the world. Unfortunately, record companies disagreed.

Led by The Beatles, the British Invasion was in full throttle and record execs of the day couldn’t imagine that the Spoonful’s folk-influenced sound would attract a significant fan base.

“We were turned down by every record company in New York City,” said Sebastian in a 2008 Mix Online interview. “But we’d play each night.”

The Spoonful had not yet found their audience. Then one night, from the stage at the Night Owl Cafe in Greenwich Village, Sebastian and Yanovsky noticed a teenage girl enthusiastically dancing among the club’s typically older folk crowd. Something had changed.

“We looked at each other, and without saying a word shared a common thought: Our moment had arrived!” Sebastian said. “Sure enough, the following week the audience had changed. Those 50-year-old beatniks had drifted off, replaced by a horde of 16-year-old girls.”

Inspired, Sebastian went home and began writing “Do You Believe in Magic.”

The song that emerged was an undeniably catchy testament to the transformative and magical power of music. In essence, “Do You Believe in Magic” was a celebration of rock n’ roll itself.

Recorded at Bell Sound Studios in New York, the song became something no one expected, least of all the record execs who had rejected it in the first place. “Do You Believe in Magic” was released in the summer of 1965 on Kama Sutra Records and climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 that fall. And the hits kept coming.

The song was just the first in an extraordinary streak of seven consecutive Top 10 singles for the Spoonful. Songs including “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” “Daydream,” “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?” and the eventual No. 1 smash “Summer in the City” turned the Lovin’ Spoonful into one of the era’s defining American groups.

And the magic persisted way beyond the 60s.

The Lovin’ Spoonful was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Shaun Cassidy recorded a hit cover of “Do You Believe in Magic” in 1977, while Aly & AJ later recorded their own version.

A full sixty years later, “Do You Believe in Magic” still sounds like exactly what Sebastian intended: the pure, irresistible feeling of discovering just how powerful a great song can be.

There’s no denying that Henry Winkler will always be known as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli on Happy Days, but the actor admits one role after the series meant so much more.

In the early 1970s, Winkler found himself auditioning for Happy Days as a still-unknown actor. After a costume and voice change and a callback, Winkler landed his breakthrough role as Fonzie and would play the role for all of its nine seasons. Despite the fame that came with the sitcom, Winkler was still making his way as an actor outside of the show.

Speaking with People, Winkler reveals that the first non-Happy Days role he landed in 1991 “was amazing.” He believes it was one of the first roles after sitcom stardom that he felt fans saw him as an actor away from the leather jacket.

“It was like nine years later I did a television movie that was a real story about a husband that had to go to the Supreme Court to choose between his wife and his baby that she was pregnant with,” Winkler recalled. “She was in a car accident, and they wanted to let the wife die in order to preserve the baby.”

The role was in Absolute Strangers that was a made-for-TV movie and was by no means a major hit. The CBS docudrama starred Winkler’s return in his first major TV role since the sitcom based on Marty Klein’s real-life story. It focused on Klein’s controversial decision to have his wife get an abortion to save her life following an accident that left her in a coma. The film’s title came from a real phrase said in court, as two anti-abortion activists tried to take custody of the fetus and become guardians of the wife.

Absolute Strangers was met with controversy over its storyline from anti-abortion activists, with Planned Parenthood instead advocating for its broadcast. Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Jennifer Hetrick starred alongside Winkler in the role of the wife, Nancy. Patty Duke, Richard Kiley, and Karl Malden were also part of the cast.

Following the 1991 film, Winkler continued acting, appearing in the short-lived 1994 series Monty with David Schwimmer, before his Friends role. He also starred in the TV film One Christmas alongside Katharine Hepburn in her last on-screen role.

Lamar Odom is getting real about the first time he entered a rehab facility, and it wasn’t on his own accord. While still married to Khloe Kardashian, Odom remembered meeting a woman and inviting her to Big Bear. Along the way, they did drugs together. But apparently, the amount of drugs Odom took frightened the woman, so much so that when Kardashian called Odom and he was unable to answer in his state, the woman answered his phone and spoke with Kardashian.

“She lets my wife know where we’re going to be at. First, she lets my wife, obviously, know what I’m doing,” Odom said during an appearance on the Nothing’s Off the Table podcast. “I get back to the girl’s house, put some coke on the table, I’m sniffing a line, and I just see a head come around the corner, and the lady says, ‘Lammy!’ And it was their mother [Kris Jenner].”

Odom says Jenner had already arranged for him to be transported to a rehabilitation facility. “I was f–ked up. They took me straight to San Diego [to rehab]. It was like six SUVs outside because I’m doing drugs, and they probably didn’t know what they were going to run into. They were trying to protect me.”

Odom and Kardashian also recalled the incident in his Netflix documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom. Kardashian admitted she was initially unaware of Odom’s addiction, and that when she learned of it, she naively believed he had it under control. She spent years covering up his addiction from the public and recalled incidents of when Odom would leave rehab early and go on binges. 

After four years of marriage, Kardashian filed for divorce. She halted divorce proceedings in 2015 while he recovered from a near-fatal overdose, and she helped nurse him back to health. Kardashian filed for divorce a final time a little over a year later, after Odom relapsed, and cut contact with him for nearly a decade.

Actress Kristen Stewart‘s response to a question about a popular meme from the Twilight film franchise has fans divided.

In the August 12 episode of Watch What Happens Live, hosted by Andy Cohen, Stewart, accompanied by her The Wrong Girls castmate, Alia Shawkat, responded to a question from an audience member who inquired about social media’s fascination with a Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) line from The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009).

“My question is what was your reaction to the ‘Bella, where the hell have you been loca’ meme? And did you speak about it with any of your co-stars?” asked the fan in the WWHL audience.

Stewart, who played Bella Swan throughout the five Twilight films, had a simple response, stating, “No.”

Shawkat then reminded her that they had recreated the Twilight Saga: New Moon moment during their promotion for The Wrong Girls.

“It was really cute,” said Shawkat.

Stewart suggested she was a bit confused by why she was asked to recreate the scene.

“And I was like, ‘Wait, what is that?’ And they were like, ‘Everybody loves that.’ And I was like, ‘Oh okay!'” said Stewart.

After Cohen asked her if she knew about the New Moon scene turning into a popular meme, she replied, “It was brought to my attention, but it took me a while.”

The clip from the August 12 episode of WWHL was uploaded on the talk show’s official TikTok page. Several fans gave their thoughts about Stewart’s response to the audience member, with some sharing their disapproval.

“Why is she being weird about it?” wrote a commenter.

“What an off-putting response,” added another.

“It’s like she’s ashamed of Bella when that literally started her career,” stated a TikTok user.

Quite a few commenters, however, came to Stewart’s defense, noting that the original Twilight movie premiered in 2008.

In a 2024 appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, host Amanda Hirsch mentioned that the line had been “going viral” on TikTok. Stewart suggested she found the New Moon line perplexing, stating, “What in the world?”

“I wonder if that was in the script. What is that? Is that in the book? Maybe it’s in the book,” continued Stewart, in reference to Stephenie Meyer‘s Twilight book series.

Is there a Boston renaissance on the horizon? The band that rose to meteoric fame seemingly overnight is marking the 50th anniversary of its self-titled debut album, and fans are now clamoring for some commemorative recognition.

Barry Goudreau, former guitarist for the multi-platinum band, stirred the pot about reunion buzz when he recently took to Instagram and Facebook to share an archival photo of the group soundtracked to a live rendition of 1976‘s “Something About You.”

“Hard to believe we’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of the first Boston album and when all the Boston madness started,” Goudreau wrote on Aug. 4. “We went from little clubs to really big venues almost overnight when the album was released. Here’s a live clip of ‘Something About You’ from 1976 at the Philadelphia Spectrum. Pretty good audio on this.”

The post was promptly followed by fans flooding the comments section on both platforms with approval of the band and the song, while also sharing memories of seeing Boston perform live. But beyond the sharing of nostalgia, there was a call to action: Fans are requesting another remaster, a tour, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, something that celebrates this monumental milestone.

“How about a tour, Barry? One last time,” one fan wrote.

“Just THE BEST!! It’s ridiculous that you guys aren’t in the R & R Hall of Fame!” another shared.

“Three weeks from today is the 50th! I am sure Tom will have some big things to say; like a Live DVD will be coming out. LOL,” another joked.

Boston debuted on Aug. 25, 1976, and became a massive success. Producing three Billboard Hot 100-charting singles—“More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Foreplay/Long Time”—the record climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, carving out 138 weeks on the tally and eventually earning 17x Platinum certification by the RIAA.

As Goudreau implied, Boston absolutely went from unknowns to rock stars almost overnight.

In his post, the guitar legend focuses on one of the album’s lesser-known songs, “Something About You.” Recorded in Philadelphia Spectrum, it’s an explosive melodic classic rock deep cut that actually comes second to last on side two of the album. Still, it was instrumental in landing the band a record deal as one of six songs on the demo tape that attracted Epic Records.

“I made so many tapes and sent them out, and I’d get all the rejection slips back,” Tom Scholz, founder and the only constant original member of the band, told Louder in 2023, adding that the final tape had six songs on it, including “Rock & Roll Band,” “More Than a Feeling,” and “Something About You.” “All of these demos were done in the same way. My friend Jim Masdea played drums, and I would overdub all the instruments; Brad Delp would overdub all of the singing parts.”

Eventually, Epic made them an offer.

Now, 50 years later, fans want to hear it and all the other tracks from the Boston debut live. Especially since the idea of a reunion tour was teased last year.

Speaking with the Metal Mayhem ROC podcast in July 2025, guitarist Gary Pihl discussed mastermind Tom Scholz‘s ongoing studio work. He expressed hope that Boston would return, essentially saying his fingers were crossed that there would be another album and tour. He ended the buzz by telling fans they’d have to “wait and see.”

Hopes for a reunion became more complicated, however, when longtime lead singer Tommy DeCarlo died at age 60 on March 9, 2026, following a battle with brain cancer. In late 2025, a GoFundMe revealed that DeCarlo suffered a sudden brain bleed, leading to emergency surgery that uncovered melanoma masses on his brain and lungs. Interestingly, he passed away on the same calendar date as the band’s original lead vocalist, Brad Delp, in 2007.

Boston’s most recent concert tour, the Hyper Space Tour, was in 2017, and their last album, Life, Love & Hope, was released in December 2013 by Frontiers Records. Though the lineup has shifted over the years, Scholz remains the central figure. But beyond Goudreau’s post and Pihl’s teaser, there’s been no further talk of getting the band back together.

Still, Boston’s impact over the decades has been enormous. 1976 was an extraordinary year for classic rock, with Boston and their future greatest hits, including “More Than a Feeling,” becoming some of the decade’s and genre’s defining moments.

So, yes, the 50th anniversary is officially here. Former members have reminded everyone just how extraordinary that original explosion was. And classic rock fans clearly want more. But for now, they’ll just have to wait and see whether Scholz has anything special in store.

Kevin Smith has spent three decades trading stories with actors on convention floors and film sets and most of those encounters end up making him a bigger fan. One did not. On a recent episode of Jay & Silent Bob Are In The Hizzouse, Smith told cohost Jason Mewes that Kelsey Grammer, the actor behind Frasier Crane on both “Cheers” and “Frasier,” gave him one of the coldest receptions of his career.

The story dates back to a stretch when Smith produced quick celebrity bits for “The Tonight Show,” then the highest rated show in late night. He and a producer he worked with would travel to the Aspen Comedy Festival and the Sundance Film Festival to grab three or four minute segments with stars in town for the events, most of whom were happy to play along for a few quick, joke filled minutes on camera. Smith remembered meeting John Goodman this way, an encounter he says later helped lead to Goodman’s role in his film “Red State.” He also recalled bumping into Kelsey Grammer at one of these same stops, expecting a similarly easy conversation with an actor he had admired for years.

Grammer was a different story. Smith said the actor showed no real interest in participating once the cameras started rolling, responding to the pitch with flat indifference instead of the enthusiasm most guests brought to the segment. Mewes, listening to Smith recount it, summed up the mismatch simply: “Buddy, just say no.”

 He “almost came off like Frrasier except he didn’t have Fraiser tone,” Smith said. “Like Frasier sounds smart. This guy didn’t sound smart. He just sounded like a bully.”

Smith said the interview yielded almost nothing usable, just a few seconds of Grammer reacting to a line, and that the entire exchange left him surprised given how recognizable and beloved the Frasier Crane character already was by that point.

Grammer originated Frasier Crane on “Cheers” in 1984, then carried the character into his own long running spinoff, “Frasier,” which aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004 and became one of the most decorated comedies in Emmy history. He later revived the role for a Paramount+ continuation that debuted in 2023, running two seasons before the streamer opted not to move forward with a third.

Smith has built a career, and now several podcasts, out of turning offbeat industry encounters into stories audiences want to hear. He and Mewes have spent years narrating their nearly four decade friendship across shows including “Jay & Silent Bob Get Old” and now “Hizzouse,” and brief, prickly run-ins with stars remain some of their most requested material. Grammer’s five minutes, by Smith’s account, still stands out among them.

Bonnie Tyler’s funeral featured a touching choral performance of her biggest hit, “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

Tyler, a beloved Welsh singer known for her husky voice, died at the age of 75 on July 8 in a hospital in Portugal. After her coffin was transported to her former home, family and friends gathered at her private funeral in Swansea, while mourners outside watched on a screen in nearby St David’s Square, The Guardian reported. But inside the church, performers stood and gave a heartbreaking choral rendition of Tyler’s legendary song, “Total Eclipse of Heart.”

Tyler’s Family Announced Her Death

Early on Thursday, July 9, Tyler’s social media account announced the death of the “Holding Out For a Hero” singer.

“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” the statement shared. “We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”

In early May, a representative for the singer told Entertainment Weekly that Tyler was in an induced coma.

“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her 

well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please,” manager Matt Davis told EW. “We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

That announcement followed their statement that the singer had undergone emergency surgery in Portugal and was recovering.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” said a statement published to her website. “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”

The statement continued, “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Additional reports shared that Tyler had gone into cardiac arrest after her doctors attempted to bring her out of the precautionary coma.

In June, a representative for Tyler told The Sun that the singer had woken up from her coma, “but remains seriously ill.”

Devon Sawa has a new magical project set to premiere.

The former child star and ‘90s heartthrob, whose breakout was the title role of the friendly ghost in Casper, is set to appear in a new Disney series that has fans of all ages buzzing with excitement.

Arriving on Oct. 1, just in time for peak spooky season, is Coven Academy, described as a supernatural dramedy from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series creator Tim Federle. 

Sawa, who is also known for horror projects such as Chucky and Final Destination, recently shared a first look (set to Olivia Rodrigo’s “brutal”) at the upcoming series on his Instagram, which will also star ’90s icon Tiffani Thiessen of Saved by the Bell.

“Welcome to Coven Academy 🔮 The brand-new series premieres October 1 on Freeform, next day on Disney+ and Hulu,” he wrote.

His return to the magical realm will be in a guest-starring capacity as Mr. Cole, an “effortlessly cool teacher who’s tired of watching teenagers mistake talent for readiness.”

“He’s the adult who can clown you and protect you in the same breath. A good man and a brilliant warlock. It’s just another year at Coven Academy until Mr. Cole and the rest of the faculty are rocked by a surprising new student who threatens to upend everything,” the description on Deadline notes.

Fans Say They’ll Watch Coven Academy for 2 Reasons Only

Unfortunately, fans didn’t get a snippet of Mr. Cole in the trailer, but it didn’t stop them from absolutely declaring their desire to tune in alongside their children for the vibes and nostalgia.

“Finally, something for the millennial parents and their older kids can watch together. My kids told me about it and said, “Some of your people are going to be in it.” They know me so well,” one fan wrote.

“Tiffany amber thiessen is coming back to tv?!?!? 😍 And Devon Sawa 🪦😍” and “This is so up my alley can’t wait!!! 😍” comments also poured in.

“Seated for Devon! So exciting!” another chimed in, with someone else noting, “Kelly Kapowski?? Sign me up! ❤️.”

Another pointed out that there’s a Final Destination franchise reunion, as Keegan Connor Tracy from Final Destination 2 will star as Tamora, writing, “Both him and Keegan were both on final destination so it’s going to be exciting especially with the final destination maze attraction going to be at six flags fright fest this year in late September or early October.”

What’s Coven Academy About?

Fittingly set in New Orlean, the YA series follows a “trio of teenage witches-in-training who are bound by destiny to guard their city against dangerous, ancient forces.”

“Between unraveling dark secrets, mastering volatile magic, and facing off against distractingly cute rivals, they must also navigate the heartbreaks and deep bonds that come with growing up,” the synopsis notes.

Thiessen will play Miss Graves, who guides the witches, starring alongside Malina Pauli Weissman as Briar, Malachi Barton as Jake, Louis Thresher as Ollie, Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, and Ora Duplass as Tegan.

Recurring guest stars also include Brendon Tremblay as Alexander and Swayam Bhatia as McKenna.
