Justin Hayward had a memorable voice during the late 1960’s, and in 1978, he lent his vocals to record a hit track, “Forever Autumn,” that became one of the most loved soft rock love songs of their generation.

Some songs that have stood the test of time for decades have interesting backstories, with “Forever Autumn” created by Jeff Wayne in 1969, long before it became famous. The track was actually intended for a completely different purpose, as it was an instrumental jingle created for a Lego commercial.

Wayne called the track a “very acoustic, near-Simon and Garfunkel melody” and didn’t have any lyrics attached. Instead, session singers/songwriters Paul Vigrass and Gary Osbourne simply hummed a tune that sounded like “Mrs. Robinson,” and it led listeners to want to buy the track.

It wasn’t until years later, in 1972, that Vigrass and Osbourne got back together and released their album Queues and turned “Forever Autumn” into a full three-minute soft rock orchestral number. Their track had more success overseas in Japan than in the U.S. Six years later, “Forever Autumn” would become a hit love song thanks to Hayward from The Moody Blues.

During recording sessions for Wayne’s classic 95-minute double album, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, the producer had no intention of including the popular track.

“I tried everything in my composing power not to include Forever Autumn on The War Of The Worlds. I wanted it to be one hundred per cent brand new,” he said, according to LouderSound.

Due to the album’s storyline concept and Wayne’s inability to develop a new track, “Forever Autumn” became the only suitable choice as the needed love song. Wayne felt Hayward’s vocals, famous for “Nights in White Satin,” were perfect and was “very proud” the singer was willing to do it.

Hayward remembers recording the track, and Wayne having created a perfect atmosphere and had the “mood right.” Over the next few weeks, he recorded the project and reportedly lamented having taken a fee up front for doing the song.

“I’d done a lot of those things before and nothing had ever happened, and so I got used to saying, ‘Yeah, great. Of course you’d like my voice on it. I’ll have the money upfront.’ Which is what I did, because I couldn’t work out who was going to buy it. I knew the music was great, but I thought, ‘Who the hell’s going to buy it? Who’s going to try and sell this and who’s going to buy it?” he explained.

“In ’76 I recorded it, and in ’78 it came out, and actually it was bought by a lot of young kids – nine, ten year old kids – first of all. And then suddenly it appeared in the charts, and then the record company called and they said, ‘Would you go on Top Of The Pops? Your song is the hit from it.’ So it was wonderful, really, I went all over the world with it, it was a hit all over the world.”

Hayward’s version landed at No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 20 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It also landed at No. 5 on the UK Singles chart and was a hit in Europe and Canada.

The Sausage Wrap Rolls, otherwise known as pigs in a blanket, are now available at Publix locations, with the social media post further teasing, “more retailers coming this fall!

Boasting “homestyle goodness,” the Sausage Wrap Rolls feature “buttery and soft Parker House rolls filled with seasoned sausage,” along with 9g of protein per serving.

News of the Southern staple’s comeback made waves online as customers rejoiced over the long-awaited news.

“FINALLY 🫶🏻 we can resume our gatherings and holidays like the good ole days….” one wrote, as another emphasized, “NO I LITERALLY ASKED!!!!!!”

“Brb running to the store immediately! Yum!!” someone else expressed.

Many noted that the fall timing couldn’t be more perfect, adding, “Praise the Lord! Just in time for tailgating!!

“On the way to Publix hallelujah,” “PRAISE BE!!!! 💫🎉🤩” “BEST 👏 NEWS 👏 EVER! 👏” and “God is good,” comments also graced the timeline, underscoring just how joyous the announcement was.

The Instagram confirmation came ont he heels of Marzetti, Sister Schubert’s parent company, making the officially announcemnt during the Business Council of Alabama’s annual conference earlier in the month.

Clarence Mingo, Marzetti’s vice president of corporate affairs and government relations, said, in a response to a question posed by Governor Kay Ivey, per All Recipes.

“I have a question for Marzetti,” she wrote, adding, “Look, we all love AND MISS Sister Schubert’s Sausage Wrap Rolls. How quickly can we get those back on the shelves?” 

Mingo exclaimed he’d be “the wealthiest man in Alabama” if he had a nickel for every time he was presented with that question, before noting that in the coming weeks, stores would be restocking shelves with the beloved product.

Discontinued in 2021 due to production and business reasons, Kristy Gross, a representative from Sister Schubert’s consumer services department told Garden and Gun at the time, “Typically, we discontinue an item when it isn’t selling well, which is what was happening with the sausage rolls,” noting that they were switched out with sausage pinwheels, which naturally did not go over very well with customers.

Sister Schubert’s, the Alabama-born frozen roll brand with products available across all 50 states, has become a holiday staple in many Southern and Midwestern households.

At just 16, Peter Noone scored his first big hit with “I’m Into Something Good,” a song written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin. The 1964 single launched Noone’s music career and quickly turned Herman’s Hermits into one of the young acts to watch during the British Invasion. 

Noone was already an experienced young performer by then. He had appeared as Stanley Fairclough on the British soap opera Coronation Street and was singing with a Manchester group called the Heartbeats. 

The Heartbeats evolved into Herman and His Hermits, with the band’s quirky name coming from a rehearsal at a local pub. Noone recalled that the group performed several Buddy Holly songs, and he would put on horn-rimmed glasses whenever he sang them. 

“The pub owner came over and said, ‘What are you doing?’ and I said, ‘Don’t you realize, it’s Buddy Holly?’” Noone told Spotlight Central. “And he goes, ‘You don’t look anything like Buddy Holly. You look like Herman from The Bullwinkle Show!’” 

The pub owner meant Sherman, the cartoon character from Rocky and Bullwinkle, but the name stuck. “He said ‘Herman from The Bullwinkle Show,’ and off we went,” Noone recalled. The group soon shortened its name to Herman’s Hermits.  

Manager Harvey Lisberg discovered the young group performing at The Collingwood Club in Urmston in the summer of 1963. By the following year, the band was ready to make their first record.

For their debut single, they turned to “I’m Into Something Good,” which had already been recorded by Cookies member Earl-Jean. Her version reached No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 42 on the Cash Box chart. 

Herman’s Hermits cut the song in July 1964, with the single released in the U.K. on August 7. Noone later recalled that the A- and B-sides were recorded in “about 20 minutes.” 

“We went up there and we had no expectations, because we didn’t know anything about the process — you either failed or you succeeded and, luckily, we succeeded,” Noone told Spotlight Central. 

The song quickly proved to be the latter. “I’m Into Something Good” reached No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart in September 1964, where it stayed for two weeks. It later peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 7 in Canada. 

The success surprised the group, particularly because Noone initially wasn’t thrilled with the recording. In a 1965 interview with Music Business, he admitted, “I felt sick when I first heard it. I went flat on one of the notes in the song. Wanted to go over it again, but when I discovered it would be another four hour session, we had to leave it as it was.” 

Noone explained that he changed the perspective of the original female version to suit a male vocalist. “The nature of it was perfect, because we were just boys and it was a boys’ song — you know, I rewrote it from a girl singing it to a man singing it — and it instantly worked,” he said. 

King was also pleased with the band’s version. In another interview, Noone recalled performing the song while King and Goffin were in the audience. “Carole loved it,” he said.

“We did a concert once, and they were both in the audience together. And when we played it, they looked at each other and smiled, which was a great feeling.”

King later said the song was influenced by another major pop act. “I make no bones about it, that song was influenced by Brian’s music,” she said of Brian Wilson. 

“I’m Into Something Good” was only the beginning for Herman’s Hermits. The group became one of the biggest-selling acts of the British Invasion, scoring additional hits including “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat” and “Henry VIII.” 

Herman’s Hermits went on to sell more than 80 million records worldwide and earn numerous gold albums and singles. And in 1965, they even outsold The Beatles in the U.S.

As soon as Outer Banks premiered on Netflix, it was clear that there was a wealth of backstory to uncover. However, the YA series kept the focus on the Pogues and their adventure across the seas.

As Outer Banks gets ready for one final run later this month, all eyes are on what’s next. Do we really need to leave Kildare Island in the past? It turns out that we could return, but to a different time.

Since around 2023, the Outer Banks creators, Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, have played around with an idea of a prequel to the series. While the seed of the idea was there, it’s taken three years to get it to the point where they could run with it, and now it’s in formal development at Netflix, according to Deadline.

The trio wants to explore the deep social divide that has plagued Kildare Island for at least the last 20 years. Outer Banks just scratched the surface by giving us a look at the wealthy homeowners and the working-class members of society, but how did that start? When did it start, and what happened to lead to such animosity between the two sides?

Pate shared, “It really is the story of how the island split — and it’s particularly relevant in our country right now — how it split into the haves and have-nots, how the Kooks and the Pogues started. How did this rift start?”

Burke added, “And seen through the stories of some of the characters you know and some new characters. But they’re 20 years before, so it’s the parents’ generation.”

Why now? With the flagship series coming to an end this month, the trio has had more time to work on the prequel idea. Pate shared that they are now working on the script, and they’re working with partners at Netflix to ensure it’s the best possible project. So far, the project is called Kildare, but titles can always change as the full story is developed.

As it’s a prequel series, it means a time before the current Pogues and Kooks we’ve followed for five seasons. However, their families still play an important part in the story. It’s them we get to follow, as they’re the ones who created such a huge divide, so we should get to see the younger versions of Big John, Ward, Luke, Mike, and Heyward. There will also be some newer characters to help flesh out the story.

The backstories from Outer Banks have already set up a potential story. Ward originally lived on The Cut before he amassed his wealth and worked his way up to becoming a Kook. The fourth season revealed that JJ’s late mother was born into a wealthy family, while there have been some teases of Pope and Kiara’s parents and grandparents.

The prequel series isn’t yet officially greenlit to series, but there are high hopes as we get ready to say goodbye to the Pogue Life.

Jill St. John will always be known as a Bond girl, but the beauty looks better than ever as she turns 86 alongside her husband, Robert Wagner.

St. John played the iconic role of diamond smuggler Tiffany Case opposite Sean Connery‘s James Bond in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever. 51 years later, the star is a devoted wife to Wagner, 96. He starred in early series like It Takes a Thief and Switch, continued on TV in Hart to Hart before appearing more recently on Two and a Half Men and NCIS. He also had a successful film career, with roles in the Austin Powers trilogy and several other popular films. (He’s also widely known as the former husband of Natalie Wood.)

But these days, Wagner and St. John are more devoted to each other than ever. Wagner honored St. John with a fun vacation throwback photo and a touching message.

“Wishing the happiest of birthdays to my beautiful wife Jill. I’m so blessed to love you and to do life with you. Happy Birthday, beautiful 💕,” Wagner wrote.

Wagner and St. John made it clear they’re more in love than ever when they celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in May. In a sweet shot, Wagner kissed his wife, who looks better than ever. Now that’s aging gracefully!

“36 years of love and laughter with my beautiful Jill. Happy Anniversary, my love 💕,” Wagner captioned the photo.

Back in February, Wagner reunited with Stefanie Powers, his beloved costar from Hart to Hart. While Powers got her start in the entertainment industry in the series The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., she’s best known for her role as Jennifer Hart on the classic mystery series. The duo occasionally reunites, particularly on Wagner’s birthday. Powers didn’t miss an opportunity to reunite with her old friend.

“When Jonathan and Jennifer reunite, it’s always something special. ❤️ Thank you, Stefanie, for the beautiful birthday visit,” Wagner captioned a sweet photo of the duo with their arms wrapped around each other.

Former POTUS Bill Clinton is celebrating his birthday on August 19. This leaves only one living president/former president under the age of 80. 

Born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas, Clinton actually wasn’t his first last name. If you’re wondering what the former president’s name was back on this day in 1946, it was William Jefferson Blythe III. Sadly, his father died in an auto accident just three months after his birth. Years later, he took his stepfather, Roger Clinton’s, last name. 

Clinton has a storied past that started with a degree from Georgetown University in 1968. Following graduation, he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford and later earned a law degree from Yale (in 1973). 

The then-would-be president briefly taught law at the University of Arkansas before campaigning for Congress in 1974. Although he failed to win that election, he became Arkansas Attorney General two years later. In 1978, he was elected governor of Arkansas. Clinton famously defeated Republican President George H.W. Bush and became the 42nd President of the United States on January 20, 1993. 

Of course, his time as POTUS didn’t end there. Clinton was re-elected four years later, making him the first Democrat to sit for a second term since Franklin D. Roosevelt. 

Clinton’s recent milestone birthday leaves former POTUS Barack Obama as the only living U.S. president under 80. Current president Donald Trump celebrated his 80th on June 14, George W. Bush turned 80 on July 6, and, at 83, Joe Biden is the eldest. 

Obama also just celebrated his birthday, turning 65 on August 4. His wife, Michelle Obama, publicly sent her husband a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing, “65 never looked better. Every day, you make me a better person, and I’m thankful for all the ways you show up for our family and our country.” 

Not to be outdone, Hillary Clinton also shared a sweet post on her husband’s Bday, “Happy birthday, dear Bill. Eighty years in to your extraordinary life, I feel very lucky to have spent over 50 of them with you. Here’s to more dancing, talking, and laughing together in the years to come. Hillary also included a series of sentimental throwback snapshots, featuring pics with a young Chelsea Clinton and a photo from the couple’s wedding.

Liza Minnelli is opening up about one of the darkest periods of her life, sharing a deeply personal account of addiction, rehab and the people she credits with helping save her.

In a Facebook post, Minnelli, 80, shared an excerpt from her memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, explaining that many had asked her to describe what “hitting bottom” looked like.

The account is candid.

Minnelli writes that while living in New York, she surrounded herself with people who either encouraged her drug use or did little to persuade her to stop. She also acknowledged being reckless with money and giving away possessions to people who admired them.

She described having favorite Manhattan bars where bartenders would serve her whenever she arrived, as well as keeping pills and bottles of alcohol in her apartment.

“With no one watching, I self-medicated myself to foggy perfection,” Minnelli wrote, describing a period when she wanted to feel as though nothing and no one could hurt her.

When she later moved to California, she said she found herself repeating the same destructive patterns.

“It was the same old bulls—, this time with more sunshine,” she wrote.

Eventually, Minnelli said, she checked herself into rehab because she was “out of options.”

“And I was f–king scared to death!” she added.

Minnelli also revealed that her memoir goes into greater detail about just how dangerous those years became.

“My book reveals how many times I nearly died,” she wrote.

Rather than focusing solely on the difficult memories, however, Minnelli used the post to thank the people who stood by her when she needed help.

She specifically named four people whom she says played a crucial role in saving her life: her sister Lorna Luft, her longtime friend Michael Feinstein and his husband Terrence Flannery, and her doctor, Lawrence D. Piro.

Minnelli’s account includes an especially unexpected story involving Luft, 73, and legendary singer Frank Sinatra.

According to Minnelli, Luft was instrumental in getting her to her first rehab treatment.

In a detail that sounds almost unbelievable, Minnelli said her sister had to buy her a hot dog to persuade her to board Sinatra’s private jet for the trip.

“Lorna how the hell did you put up with me?” Minnelli wrote.

The moment offers a glimpse at the lengths her sister went to help her during a frightening period.

Minnelli has long spoken about her close relationship with Luft, who is also the daughter of Judy Garland and producer Sidney Luft.

The sisters grew up in one of Hollywood’s most famous families, but Minnelli’s latest comments focus on Luft not simply as a sibling, but as someone who helped get her through one of the most difficult periods of her life.

The post gives fans a glimpse at the story Minnelli plans to tell in Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, her memoir about her extraordinary life and career.

Police visited the home of Hayden Panettiere’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson’s family on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Photos obtained by TMZ show police knocking on the door, while another walked up their driveway. The outlet adds that it’s “unclear why they paid the Hickersons a visit … or if anyone ultimately let them in.”

Brian was in the Greenville, South Carolina residence when Panettiere was found dead, with his brother, Zach Hickerson, finding her unresponsive on Sunday, Aug. 16. The actress was suffering from cardiac arrest, and first responders attempted life-saving measures, but they couldn’t resuscitate her. According to TMZ, Brian was sleeping at the time, but woke up when she was found and became “overcome by emotion when emergency medical personnel officially pronounced her dead.”

The family has yet to speak out publicly, but Zach was photographed on Tuesday picking up food.

TMZ also reports that police are “not satisfied” that the actress’s death was an overdose of prescribed meds and are currently investigating to see if there is any criminal conduct behind it. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that they are “conducting a death investigation to see if some illegality is behind the 36-year-old’s death.”

An autopsy has been completed, but a toxicology report is being conducted and the results are pending.

Netflix’s Bridgerton has captivated fans since its first season, and Nicola Coughlan has been an integral part as Penelope Featherington and Lady Whistledown. The actor revealed she is stepping back as her popular character for Bridgerton Season 5.

Coughlan is undoubtedly one of the most well-loved roles in the Regency-era series that has told a separate Bridgerton sibling love story each season. The actor’s character arc has taken quite a few juicy turns, from a friend-to-lovers story to the reveal of her alter ego as the ton’s gossip writer, Lady Whistledown.

Following Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) Season 4 love story, Netflix announced Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) would lead the fifth season in the series’ first main LGBTQ romance. While it’s customary for the main cast of characters to return in some capacity each season, Coughlan told E! News she won’t be returning as fans would hope.

She told the outlet it was an “incredible experience” to have led Bridgerton Season 3 and be an integral part of each installment. For Season 5, she admits it was “so nice and low pressure” to have a much smaller part to play.

“It’s bittersweet,” Coughlan said. “I feel like, God, I had such an epic run. I think that’s part of the beauty of that world is it keeps reinventing itself. Every season being a new story—it takes on a different guise.”

Have no fear, Coughplan will still appear, but she has other projects on her plate that are pushing her career forward. She was announced to join Only Murders in the Building alongside Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez for its sixth season as a recurring character. The mystery storyline is headed across the pond to London. The Derry Girls star says she felt “lucky” to still be a part of the Netflix series while working on her new series.

“I feel very lucky,” Coughlan said. “It’s the best of both worlds, because I’m currently filming on Only Murders, but I still get to pop back to Bridgerton now and then and see everybody, and it’s just like coming home. You’re like, ‘Oh, hey guys, how you doing?'”

Her limited role in Bridgerton Season 5 doesn’t mean she’s gone forever, as she adds she’s always willing to “pop back to Bridgerton if they want me” and “If I can be set dressing, I’ll be there. No problem.”

With the fifth season slated for 2027, fans will still get to see Coughlan in new roles until then as she stars in The Magic Faraway Tree, hitting theaters at the end of the summer. The film was a no-brainer for the actor after reading the script and thinking she “desperately” wanted to do this, which is “quite a rare feeling as an actor.”

Police is Greenville, South Carolina, are reportedly conducting a death investigation following the shocking death of actress Hayden Panettiere.

According to TMZ, “police are not satisfied Hayden Panettiere’s death was a tragic overdose of prescribed meds.”

Parade has reached out to the Greenville Police Department for further comment.

This new information comes on the heels of reports that two Greenville police officers showed up at the family home of Panettiere’s boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach Hickerson, on Wednesday morning. According to Page Six, the officers knocked on the doors of the home, but no one answered. They returned about an hour later for a “welfare check,” but no one answered. The outlet was able to confirm that Zach was home at the time.

“Hayden’s death was unexpected. She was only 36,” a law enforcement source told TMZ.

The Greenville Police Department shared an update on the investigation on its website on Monday, Aug. 17.

“The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office,” the update reads, in part. “The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call. At this time, no further details are available for release.”

Panettiere was found unresponsive inside an apartment in Greenville on Sunday, Aug. 16. Authorities have confirmed that both Brian and Zach were at the apartment with the Heroes star when she died. Shortly after her death, an autopsy was conducted.

“No signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” read a statement by coroner Mike Ellis following Panettiere’s autopsy (via People). “The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.”

A toxicology report is still pending.

National City is sandwiched in between, offering an unexpected day trip away from the world-famous San Diego Zoo and incredible beaches tourists flock to year-round, including Coronado, where Marilyn Monroe famously filmed Some Like It Hot. If you squint, you can even see the famous Hotel del Coronado from National City’s shoreline.

Despite its low profile today, National City has a long connection to Hollywood’s golden era. In its heyday, it served as a common pit stop for Hollywood’s elite, including Bing Crosby and Clark Gable, along with Errol Flynn, who made Café La Maze, which opened in 1940, a popular stop on the way to Tijuana.

Back in the 1930s and ’40s, Tijuana was an easy escape from Hollywood, roughly a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. The Caliente Racetrack became a playground for the rich and famous, and Café La Maze gave them one last place to eat, drink and even gamble before crossing the border.

National City officials are pushing for the city to become more of a tourist destination, but being the county’s only waterfront city without a beach can be a hard sell, especially with its “Nasty” reputation.

Food is now one of National City’s biggest draws. In addition to Café La Maze, the revamped old-school Napoleone’s Pizza House is opening a new Italian market, and there’s no shortage of Filipino eateries and a bustling new food hall taking over a downtown space left vacant for years.

The city’s culinary reputation has even caught national attention. Famed “bizarre” culinary expert Andrew Zimmern once featured National City’s Filipino food scene, including Kalye Hits, on Bizarre Foods America. While Kalye Hits has since closed, Tita’s Kitchenette — later featured on Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations — is still dishing out Filipino favorites today.

But for a literal taste of history, there’s no better spot in National City than Café La Maze, especially as the city looks toward the future, with officials hoping it becomes more of a waterfront destination, with plans for two new hotels, an RV resort, expanded waterfront recreation, restaurants, and shops.

While Matthew Rhys didn’t expect to fall in love with his co-star Keri Russell while filming The Americans, the actor recently explained it was unavoidable.

“I remember at the time going, ‘Oh no,'” he said during an interview with The New York Times, speaking about the pair’s relationship. “I wouldn’t advise it.”

The actors, who starred on the Hulu series that aired from 2013 to 2018, played on-screen love interests, in the form of KGB spies, and developed real-life relationship off camera. The two have been together since 2013 and share a son, Sam.

However, Rhys says he did approach their potential romance hesitantly, recalling he thought, “Hold on, let’s be very serious about this” as Russell already had two children, River and Willa, whom she shares with ex-husband Shane Deary.

“Keri had two kids, and it wasn’t something I was going to enter into lightly,” he shared. “Sometimes you can’t fight it. You know, it’s ordained. It was, and it was going to happen, and it did.”

While dating rumors swirled in 2013, the couple confirmed their relationship a year later, according to People.

These days, Rhys explained that managing their family is “a circus.”

“We both we both have Moleskine planners,” he shared, explaining how they keep their schedules in order. “We sit down with little nubs of pencils. That’s how we do it. But it’s one of the hardest elements of, you know, the circus life.”

When it comes to work, Rhys and Russell also have their hands full. This year, they’re both nominated for Emmys. Rhys has two nominations, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay and Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix’s The Beast in Me. Russell is nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Netflix’s The Diplomat.

As for whether the duo will ever appear on screen together again? Rhys hopes so, but the two may have different ideas of what characters they’d want to play.

“Without question 100%,” he answered when asked if he hoped to work with Russell again. “I want to do something like Heart to Heart, or Moonlighting — although she’d probably want to be Bruce Willis.”

When I think of soft rock, I don’t typically associate it with shredding guitar solos. But the truth is, great music can’t be confined to a label or box. Still, for a soft-rock anthem to not only compete with, but surpass, the likes of Jimmy Page‘s and David Gilmour‘s finest works, is truly saying something.

Rolling Stone magazine recently named the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time in May 2026, and among a sea of talent, placed The Eagles‘ 1976 hit “Hotel California” at No. 3—above Pink Floyd‘s “Comfortably Numb” (No. 4) and Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway to Heaven.”

The magazine credits the dueling work of Don Felder and Joe Walsh on the track for giving it the high accolade, highlighting the push-and-pull the competitive pair constructed for the mysterious song.

“There was always a little competition between Felder and I. We always tried to kind of one-up each other … ‘Oh yeah? Listen to this!’” Walsh reportedly said in the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles.

According to Ultimate Guitar, neither guitarist Felder, singer Don Henley, nor producer Bill Szymczyk can agree on how the legendary dynamic solo actually came to be.

Felder states that he wrote the solo on a 12-string guitar in his Malibu home, influenced by a Latin-tinged progression, and passed a cassette to Henley and Glenn Frey that also included several other instrumental ideas. He further claimed that in it, he envisioned himself and Walsh playing dual roles. Henley claims the song really took shape while he was driving around L.A. listening to Felder’s tape.

Szymczyk stated that The Eagles recorded “Hotel California” three times before finalizing the track. The initial recording was an instrumental draft in Miami, followed by a vocal version in Los Angeles that proved too high for Henley’s vocal range. The band returned to Miami to cut the final version, lowering the key to B minor with choruses in G major to match Henley’s voice.

Felder claimed that the now-famous twin-guitar solo appeared on those tapes before they hit Miami, but when Felder and Walsh set out to record, they put the demo aside and began to improvise before Henley stopped them. According to Felder, Henley demanded that they stick to the demo tape note-for-note, but that was problematic as Felder had left the demo tape behind en route to Miami.

Szymczyk’s completely different version tells a tale of the two guitarists and himself trading notes for two days before settling on the final arrangement.

Though in the end—no matter the exact details—it produced one of the greatest solos of all time, the disagreements were the beginning of the long end for The Eagles, who ultimately fired Felder in 2001.

Ruben Studdard is showing off his incredible weight loss after tipping the scales at 462 pounds.

Studdard, 47, skyrocketed to fame on the second season of American Idol. Known for his soulful voice and lovable vibes, the singer became a star on the circuit, releasing several albums and parlaying his talents into an acting career. When he arrived on NBC’s The Biggest Loser in 2013, he weighed in at 462 pounds and ended up dropping 120 pounds. But in a new appearance alongside Bewitched child star Erin Murphy, the talented singer made it clear he has slimmed down even more since his run on the controversial reality show.

“Heading to the Boys & Girls Club with American Idol winner Ruben Studdard! ❤️ We had the best conversation. His favorite Bewitched character is Endora,” Murphy captioned the photo, which showed a slim Studdard smiling in the car.

Weighing in at 462 pounds during his 2013 appearance on The Biggest Loser, Studdard found out he had Type 2 Diabetes. But his success on the show was significant, and he dropped 119 pounds.

“I (did) this for me; this was for my life,” he said after the season finale, Today shared. “I’m so excited I got to take the time and do this. It was something I could do for me, and nobody else. This show has given me a second chance to live the best life I can live. I am going to be the healthiest Ruben Studdard I can be.”

Studdard added that he was committed to his fitness regimen, even after he left the series.

“I’ve been working out every day and have really made a positive change in my life,” he said. “I got some shocking news this season when I found out I was type 2 diabetic, so I’ve been working hard every day to change that.”

Kane Brown‘s wife, Katelyn, couldn’t attend his recent show in Albequerque, New Mexico, which meant he had no one to help him sing their hit country duet, “Thank God.”

Fortunately, a young fan named Aubrey and her family were in attendance at the Aug. 12 concert at Sandia Casino Amphitheatre, and the little girl was up to the task of filling in for Katelyn in her absence.

“You’re filling in for a very special person. Kate, my wife, is not here. So you are filling big shoes,” Brown told her, making sure she felt comfortable before reassuring the crowd, “She’s confident.”

“I’m right here beside you,” Brown added, kneeling to be on eye level with the 8-year-old as they launched into the song.

Unfortunately for Brown, she kind of stole the show. The duet quickly became more of an Aubrey solo, and Brown seemed thrilled to allow her to take his spotlight. How could he not when she knew every single line?

The country star was stunned watching her do her thing, asking her at the end of the song, “Do you know how brave you have to be to come up here and sing in front of all these people? And you’re only eight years old. That’s so brave!”

The audience agreed, giving Aubrey a roaring cheer as she went back to her mom in the crowd.

“Thank God” was released as a single four years ago, as the fourth single from Brown’s Different Man album. It was the most-added song on country radio in its first week and quickly became a smash hit, grabbing the No. 1 spot on the Country Airplay chart in February 2023. Fans couldn’t get enough of the romantic duet, which was Katelyn’s first entry into country music.

It’s been a whirlwind summer for Brown, who was nearly taken out by a golf ball in June. The mishap resulted in a mild concussion and 23 stitches for the country star. He has since recovered and has been playing sporadic concerts this summer, with more planned for the fall.

It’s not surprising that Brown is really great with kids, because he has three of his own at home, including a nearly-7-year-old daughter named Kingsley. He’s also a proud papa to 4-year-old daughter, Kodi and 2-year-old son, Krewe.
