Jamie-Lynn Sigler Reveals Truth Behind 2009 Split from 'Entourage' Star: 'He Deserved More'

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:35am

Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler has been open about her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis since making it public years ago. Having dealt with MS since the early 2000s, she revealed how it ultimately took a toll on her relationship with Entourage star Jerry Ferrara and led to their split in 2009.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Sigler's new book, And So It Is….: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope, details how her MS changed the dynamics of the actors' relationship. The two met on the set of the drama series, where both Sigler and Ferrara's on-screen characters dated for various episodes. The on-screen romance soon translated into real life, where the couple dated for over a year and quickly got into the "rhythm of a serious relationship."

Having previously been married and divorced, Sigler realized her relationship with the Entourage actor was entering into serious territory. It soon came time to breach the topic of her MS, which she was diagnosed with in 2002, with Ferrara. She felt it was only right for the actor to understand what she was going through and its possible impact on their relationship.

"At this point, if I was going to be in an intimate relationship with someone, they had to know," she wrote in her book. "It also became a test: 'Do you really want to be with me?'"

Ferrara passed with flying colors when he told the actor he wanted to be with her, and her MS didn't change how he felt. Soon, Ferrara proved he could be Sigler's "anchor" and helped her understand "that acting could be joyful, he reminded me of my talent, and he lightened my darkness. He taught me that someone who loved you wouldn’t just leave you if you fell apart."

At this point in Sigler's career, she had no intentions of revealing her diagnosis, but it began to take a bigger toll physically. Sigler began to see a future with the actor and was welcoming the idea of marriage again when she experienced one of the worst flare-ups of her autoimmune disease. It soon had an effect on her relationship.

In her book, she explains that Ferrara took on the role of a caretaker, and she knew he was feeling "overwhelmed." The Sopranos alum began to "resent" her situation, and the couple started to bicker.

"I found myself picking fights with Jerry just to push him away," she explained. "I think that I was trying to spare him from what I knew I was about to enter: a deep depression spiral, and I didn’t want to take him with me. He was too good for that. He deserved more."

The two would ultimately end their relationship in 2009. Sigler went on to marry former baseball player Cutter Dykstra, with Ferrara marrying Breanne Racano in 2017. Ferrara hasn't spoken publically of their relationship, but has praised Sigler as an actor.

'View' Host Alyssa Farah Griffin Reveals Her Baby Had Emergency Surgery: 'Hardest Thing I've Ever Been Through In My Life'

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:35am

The Viewco-host Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed this week that her son, Justin Jr., born in February, had to undergo emergency surgery over the weekend.

While she didn't disclose the details of her nearly 3-month-old's health scare and subsequent procedure, she shared on The View's podcast "Behind the Table" on Monday that she and her husband, also named Justin, spent the weekend in the ICU.

"I felt incapacitated," she said. "Last week I was going through the motions and just in prayer knowing he had this procedure ahead of him and thank the Lord it went beyond well..It's the hardest thing I've probably ever been though in my life."

"You love them with every fiber of your being," she added. "You love them more than you could possibly love yourself, you would give your life for them a thousand time over, so to watch a baby be helpless but also have to entrust him into someone else's hands, it took every amount of strength that I had just to get through it."

Griffin, thankfully had a happy update as "12 hours" after the procedure, Justin Jr. was "back, he's better...he's smiling, he's flirting with nurses...he's okay."

She also credited Justin Jr.'s pediatrician for recommending that they see a specialty doctor after suspecting something was wrong.

"If not for her flagging this it could have been a far worse outcome then it was," she added.

And as for Griffin being able to compartmentalize while still appearing on the morning talk show, she said that "being at work was probably better for me." She notably did not talk about it with her fellow co-hosts.

Griffin also referred to her husband as "the strength" in the scary situation.

"He was so much braver," she said. "I always thought that I was the tougher of the two...I can be fearless in certain things [but] he had to be the strength, he had to be the one comforting me."

Justin Sr. and Griffin tied the knot in 2021 and announced they were expecting a new addition in October of 2025.

Why Your Social Security Benefits Might Be Taxed for the First Time Ever

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:31am

Social Security payments were designed to help seniors supplement their income, giving them a little extra money to help make their retirement savings and other investments seem more robust once they stop working.

However, many people have found themselves with only Social Security to rely on in retirement, making it important to ensure every dollar of that benefit reaches your bank account. But tax laws make that harder for some people, who say they are seeing their benefits taxed for the first time ever. Here's why the pros say that's happening, and what you can do to keep more money in your wallet.

'Tax Creep' May be to Blame

The reason your Social Security benefits are being taxed may have to do with your other income, according to D'Andre Clayton, Co-Founder at Clayton Financial Solutions. "This is less about having higher income in a traditional sense and more about structural tax creep," he explains, noting that Social Security taxation is driven by provisional income and not taxable income.

"For instance, many seniors believe that municipal bonds aren't taxable because they are tax-exempt; the same is true for rental income, etcetera," he continues. "Tax-exempt is different from tax-free; the key differentiator is the adjusted gross income (AGI)."

Another problem Clayton says people are facing is the fact that the thresholds were set in 1983 and 1993, but were never indexed to inflation, and they are:

  • $25,000 for a single person and $32,000 for a married person, which can cause up to 50 percent of your income to be taxable
  • $34,000 for a single person and $44,000 for a married person, which can cause up to 85 percent of your income to be taxable

What Can You Do to Prepare

When you're on a fixed income, every penny counts. That's why Sherman Standberry, CPA, and CEO of My CPA Coach, says it's important to prepare ahead of time so you don't get a shock come tax time.

"All seniors over the age of 65 should review their qualifications for the new $6,000 bonus deduction passed under the Big Beautiful Bill," Standberry says. "This deduction can be used to offset taxable portions of social security benefits, or other forms of income."

Clayton says you can also try to manage the timing of alternative income streams. "Consider a Roth conversion as early as possible," he says, adding that the more distance you can put between distributions and Social Security payments, the better.

He also suggests:

  • Filling those lower-income brackets earlier
  • Sequencing your withdrawals from other types of accounts
  • Blending taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-free income buckets
  • Considering other forms of income, like reverse mortgages or home equity lines of credit (HELOCs)

While death and taxes come for us all, the advice from these pros may at least help you delay how much tax you have to pay on those all-important Social Security benefits.

2000s Horror Director Teams With Paris Hilton for New Movie About Reality TV

Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:25am

One of the most iconic horror franchises in the modern era can be spelled out in just three letters.

Saw hit theaters back in 2004 and has spawned nearly 10 sequels and spinoff films — and who knows what else is to come. The first film shocked the cinematic world, especially scary-movie fanatics, and Saw II (2005) effectively built on the fictional universe with a broader scope of characters and villainous accomplices.

The sequel, along with some other Saw follow-ups, was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. And on Tuesday, May 5, Deadline confirmed that he has now teamed up with none other than Paris Hilton's production company on a new horror feature.

Bousman, 47, will direct Road To Reality, which is reportedly set within the “imploding world of a long-running reality television franchise” and will “take aim at a culture in which relevance is capital, identity is performance, and public collapse is repackaged as entertainment," per Deadline.

Bousman shared the news on his Instagram Tuesday morning. "Excited to be back in the trenches with @parishilton! Let’s GO!" he wrote in the caption of his post. See below.

View this post on Instagram

Fans have already shared their excitement in the comments section of Bousman's post. "Ahhhh how cool!!!" wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, "Love this."

The film is scheduled to start production in July 2026. Bousman and Hilton, 45, previously worked together on Repo! The Genetic Opera, Deadline also noted.

“I couldn’t be more excited to re-team with Paris Hilton,” Bousman said in a statement. “We’ve stayed close for over two decades, and when a script set in the world of reality TV landed in my hands, there was only one person I wanted in the trenches with me. Paris doesn’t just understand that world — she helped define it — and she’s always approached it with a sharp, subversive sense of humor that people underestimate. She’s fearless, unpredictable, and brings an energy that elevates everything around her.”

'Full of Heart and Wonder': GMA Book Club Names a Genre-Blending Must-Read for May 2026

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:20am

The GMA Book Club has named Homebound by Portia Elan its May 2026 selection. One of the most highly anticipated books of the year, Elan’s debut novel is ambitious in scope while exploring deeply human themes at the intersection of literary fiction and science fiction. A story about connection across multiple generations, Homebound offers a hopeful view of the future while spanning six centuries and three timelines to create one remarkable narrative.

Homebound is already one of the most talked-about books of 2026. Ruth Ozeki, New York Times bestselling author of A Tale for the Time Being, gushes, "A big, bold, ecstatic world—full of heart and wonder."

"A joy...and a hauntingly beautiful exploration of what makes us human. It kept me up all night!" says Madeline Miller, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Song of Achilles.

What Homebound Is About View this post on Instagram

At the center of Homebound is Becks, a 19-year-old grieving the loss of her uncle in 1980s Cincinnati, who discovers a half-finished video game he left behind. As she sets out to complete the game, Becks realizes her actions ripple into the future.

The novel unfolds across multiple timelines, connecting Becks to several characters, including a scientist, a sentient automaton, and a sea captain living hundreds of years later. Each character is linked by a shared search for meaning and belonging.

At its core, the story explores how small human actions—and the stories we leave behind—can shape lives across generations.

Why Genre-Blending Fiction Like Homebound Is Trending View this post on Instagram

While romantasy and thrillers may dominate BookTok algorithms, GMA’s pick of Homebound signals another major trend in publishing: genre-blending fiction has never been more popular.

Books that combine multiple genres are gaining traction because they offer expansive, imaginative worlds paired with relatable human stories. Novels like Homebound explore technology and the future without losing emotional depth and character development. Their flexible storytelling across timelines and perspectives allows readers to engage with high-concept ideas through personal, character-driven narratives.

    The Cultural Relevance of Homebound

While many books that tackle themes of technology and the future lean toward dystopian visions, Homebound stands out for its hopeful perspective. The novel emphasizes empathy, human connection, and the lasting impact of individual actions—values that remain deeply relevant in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Prince William Sick Over Prince Harry’s Oprah Bombshell Interview: Author

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:16am

A new book claims that Prince William was sick over remarks made by Prince Harry in his 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Author Christopher Andersen, who previously penned several royal family books including The King: The Life of Charles II, Brothers and Wives, Game of Crowns, and William and Kate, has released a new book detailing the life of Kate Middleton.

The book titled Kate! The Courage, Grace and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen reveals that the Princess of Wales worried about her husband in the week leading up to Harry and Meghan Markle's interview. Page Six shared an excerpt from the non-fiction work.

Andersen wrote that William was physically ill before the interview aired in March 2021. He wrote that Kate “could hear her husband retching in the bathroom.” The future king was reportedly “too distracted to think of food.”

This story appears to back up claims as reported in 2023 by Charlotte Griffiths, editor-at-large for the Mail on Sunday, who said the same thing about William. The Mirror reported those claims.

RELATED: The Royal Twist Behind Kate Middleton, Prince William’s Choice for Princess Charlotte’s Name

She said, "What I find quite surprising, and I've heard this for a long time now from many different sources, is that in the lead-up to that Oprah interview, William was quite literally sick with worry."

"He was not eating, and he became not reclusive, but he definitely was hiding away. He went to a royal residence for a period of time to cut himself off from the world. He was just in bits basically," Griffiths claimed.

RELATED: Prince William Shatters Royal Tradition

She concluded, " And what Kate was doing was standing by her man. Kate was like: 'I've got to stick up for this guy and protect him. He's being destroyed by this,' and that probably made her quite steely, even though she has this reputation for being shy. But when it comes to protecting her husband, she's going to step in and protect him."

During the interview, Harry and Meghan claimed that they experienced racism from the press and within the royal family, and Meghan shared her mental health struggles. These elements, among others, led to the couple's decision to leave their roles as senior royals and move to the United States to create a life away from the House of Windsor.

Prince William followed up his brother's remarks with one statement, as reported by Decider in 2021. “We are very much not a racist family," William said, adding that he hadn't spoke to Prince Harry after the interview.

Once and for All, Here’s Exactly How to Tell If an Avocado Is Ripe

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:15am

If you've ever sliced into a seemingly ripe avocado only to find brown, sludgy innards or a hard green mass, you know one of the most frustrating produce-related disappointments. After all, plans to make guacamole or avocado toast are rarely flexible. If you need it, you need it now!

But let's face it. Despite their delicious flavor, incredible health benefits and undeniable versatility, avocados are the drama when it comes to the ripening process. They don't ripen on the tree, unlike most other fruits. They become their best, creamiest, yummiest selves only after they've been harvested.

Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to avert disaster. Is that avocado ripe and ready for scooping, mashing or slicing? Pssst. Don't worry, we've got the answers! Here's everything you need to know to tell whether or not an avocado is ripe.

How to Tell If an Avocado Is RipeCheck Under the Stem

Before you even place an avocado in your shopping cart, peek under the stem (also known as that woody little nub at the top of the avocado). Is it brown? Skip it! The avocado is almost certainly brown throughout. Find one with a stem that comes off and is still green underneath, and you've got an avocado that's ready to eat.

    Peep the Color and Feel

While color is a useful visual cue for determining whether that avocado is ready for prime time, it's not always the best indicator. After all, we're looking for the dreamiest possible internal consistency.

Here's what the folks at Love One Today (of the Hass Avocado Board) suggest:

    • Step 1: When glancing over a pile of avocados, look for those that are darker in color, which can indicate ripeness. Check the outer skin for any large indentations, which can indicate bruises.
    • Step 2: Hold the avocado in your palm.
    • Step 3: Check for firmness by gently squeezing but not with your fingertips, which can cause bruising. The avocado will be in one of these three stages of ripeness:
    Firm (Not Ripe)

If the fruit doesn't yield to gentle pressure at all, it is still in the "firm" stage—and likely bright green—and has four to five days left to ripen.

    Breaking (Almost Ripe)

Avocados can vary in color at this stage, so don't forget to see how it feels, too. Breaking avocados feel soft but don't completely yield to firm, gentle pressure. The seed can be difficult to remove at this point, and the inside flesh will be firm and tough to mash (read: not ready for guac!). Breaking avocados still need 1 or 2 days at room temperature to ripen.

    Ripe (Ready to Eat)

Hooray! We've finally hit the sweet spot. When the avocado yields to a firm, gentle squeeze, it's ready to enjoy. Ripe avocados may be darker in color, but the feel of them also matters. They should feel lightly soft but not mushy. And you probably already know this if you've ever dilly-dallied with a ripe avocado, but it's typically perfect for just a day or two, so get moving!

    Overripe (Past Ripe)

When an avocado is past its prime, it nearly caves in when squeezed. It may have indentations, brown or yellow internal flesh or even a rancid or squash-like odor. Moral of the story: Dig into your avocados before they reach this point.

Pro tip: You don't necessarily have to trash that overripe avocado! Mash it up and use it in an all-natural, DIY face mask.

4 Birth Dates Who Make the Best Cat Parents

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:07am

Individuals who choose to be cat parents are often more emotionally intelligent and intuitive, prioritizing a connection based on trust. Cat owners tend to be imaginative, curious, and sensitive to subtle emotional shifts in their surroundings. Like their feline companions, they value independence and appreciate quiet companionship. Above all, a true cat parent has a great deal of love to give. There’s nothing quite as comforting as a purring cat resting on your lap or being selected by a mindful pet that is discerning about who they choose to share their affection with. According to birth datenumerology, four birth dates stand out as the most likely to make great cat parents.

    RELATED:

Which Birth Dates Make the Best Cat Owners?

Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.

Born on the 6th — The Affectionate Caretaker

People born on the 6th of any month are known for their affectionate energy. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love and attraction, animals are often drawn to their warm presence. Rather than chasing after companionship, they naturally attract it. Timid creatures, like sweet kittens or shy cats, feel safe in the company of these nurturing individuals. Their quiet presence builds trust. A cat owner with this birthday will spend hours doting on their purrfect pet, ensuring they devote plenty of time to cuddles and cozy moments to fulfill their feline's need for affection. Their cats know they are loved, cared for, and protected.

Born on the 11th — The Devoted Nurturer

There’s something soothing about those born on the 11th. Numerologists recognize 11 as a Master Number, which is associated with heightened spiritual gifts and intuition. Ruled by the Moon, our celestial guide for nurturing, this birth date tends to encourage introspection. Cats are naturally drawn to your subtle demeanor and compassionate aura, ensuring that your feline friend will purr every time you enter a room. Why wouldn’t they? Similarly, you appreciate the value of peering beneath the surface. You have a strong connection to your intuition and inner knowing. With these keen perception skills akin to an alert cat, you share a deep bond with a feline companion. You see them not just as animals, but as beings with a spirit within their small bodies. 1976 Horror Classic Is Getting a 50th Anniversary Release With Foreword by Leigh Bardugo

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:03am

When it comes to vampire stories, there are a few that have stood the test of time. One of those is Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, which was adapted into the 1990s movie starring Brad Pittand Tom Cruise. The latest AMC series has proved that people still want more from this universe, with the third season, The Vampire Lestat, coming soon.

However, there is still a lot of love for the original novel, and it turned 50 on April 12, 2026. While the 50th anniversary edition hasn’t been printed in time for the exact date, the timing is perfect. The new novel will be published on October 6, 2026, and there are some exciting additions.

A New Foreword and Afterword for ‘Interview with the Vampire’

There’s a new foreword attached to the novel, written by Shadow and Bone author Leigh Bardugo. There aren’t any details about what to expect just yet. Bardugo has recently made headlines due to her new Six of Crows short story, which is a collection of letters from Ketterdem to join in with a detective to solve a mystery.

It’s not just a new foreword to enjoy, though. Christopher Rice, Anne’s son who is an accomplished author in his own right, has written the afterword. That’s sure to make the deluxe edition worth getting.

Not enough to convince you to get it just yet? How about some bonus never-before-seen bonus pages? Not everything Rice wrote made it to her novel, and this 50th anniversary edition brings pages from her original manuscript to the story.

The entire edition has been given a makeover. One thing that is sure to stand out is the blood-red edges on the book. Those pages are enclosed in a black hard cover with foil prints. The backs also have our favorite characters printed in the gold foil, bringing the heart of the story to life.

We also can’t overlook the beautiful artwork on the inside of the front and back pages. The black, gold, and red swirls are entrancing ways to fall in love with this iconic horror story once more.

The 50th anniversary edition will be available on October 6, 2026, and now is the time to pre-order to make sure you’re not too late!

The Surprising Ingredient Eva Longoria Adds to Her Guacamole

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 10:00am

Eva Longoria is a woman of many talents. We know her best from the hit television show Desperate Housewives, where she enamored audiences as Gabrielle Solis for eight incredible seasons, but Longoria's love for entertainment extends behind the camera too.

She owns her own production company, UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, and served as a producer on the first John Wick movie and several episodes of Jane the Virgin and Black-ish.

But when she’s not entertaining the masses, Eva Longoria has made it clear she would like to be spending her time in the kitchen. In 2011, Longoria released her first cookbook, which included 100 of her favorite dishes, many of which were treasured family recipes.

One recipe that stood out to us immediately was her guacamole, which calls for one really surprising ingredient: lemon juice.

Why You Should Add Lemon Juice to Guacamole

To some, this revelation may not be all that new of an idea, and you may have even tried it when you were out of limes. To put it scientifically, citric and ascorbic acids (which are found in lemon juice) will help lower the pH levels of avocados, preventing them from turning brown so quickly.

Lemon juice is also the key to the tastiest guacamole that's perfect for Cinco de Mayotaco Tuesday, and so much more. Using lemon juice instead of lime juice in your guacamole will add a bright and citrusy flavor, plus a hint of sweetness to the already delicious avocado dip.

How to Make Guacamole Like Eva Longoria

Use your favorite guacamole recipe, or follow Eva's recipe. Eva’s guac calls for 3 ripe avocados, 2 ripe tomatoes, 1 large white onion, 1/4 bunch of cilantro, 1/2 of a serrano pepper (deveined with seeds and stem removed), 2 lemons and kosher salt.

Chop the vegetables and place them all in a mixing bowl. Add 1/4 cup lemon juice and mix gently. (Longoria prefers her guac chunky, but if you like a smoother guac, you can mash up your avocados.)

Season to taste with salt, then give the dip another stir. Crack open a bag of your favorite tortilla chips and dig in.

“I’m happy to announce new North American dates on my upcoming tour, alongside some shows in Europe," Rundgren, now 77, shares. "Fan pre-sale starts tomorrow at 10am local, use password VICTORY26. General sale starts this Friday at 10am local. For more information, head to the link in my bio.”

Rundgren, a staple of 1970s classic rock, first rose to fame in the 1960s with psych-pop band Nazz, before launching a solo career in the ’70s. His debut album, Runt. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren, included hits like “Be Nice to Me” and “Denny and Jean.” His highest-charting solo hit came in 1973 with “Hello It’s Me,” off his critically acclaimed double album, Something/Anything? The single soared to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Though he hasn’t achieved a No. 1 (just yet), he did produce the stellar track from Grand Funk Railroad, “The Locomotion,” which went all the way to the top in 1974, helping cement his legacy as a rock legend and influential producer.

It’s no surprise that fans are reeling over the news, with comments flooding Rundgren’s comments section with excitement and requests for additional cities to be added. With more dates potentially on the horizon, keep an eye out to see if he adds your hometown. You might be hearing "I Saw the Light" and "Couldn't I Just Tell You" IRL.

1982 Rock Classic, That Spent Two Weeks at No. 1, Was Released 44 Years Ago

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:55am

By 1982, the Steve Miller Band was already at the height of its career. The American rock band released a lead single from their twelfth album that would go on to become a classic in the pop-rock genre.

The early '80s were full of chart-topping rock hits like "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett. The Steve Miller Band would add to the long list of tracks that would cement themselves as classics among fans with their hit "Abracadabra." It became a worldwide hit when it was released in May 1982 and battled against another popular track.

"Abracadabra" became the band's third No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 after "The Joker" and "Rock'n Me," and it maintained its position for two consecutive weeks. The track even managed to kick Chicago's soft rock track "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" off its No. 1 post during its reign at the top of the charts before returning to the top two weeks later.

In an interview with Vulture, Miller explained that he had been working on the song for a long time. It had started as an instrumental before becoming a "gypsy-blues" kind of tune, but Miller admits he wrote and recorded a "bad set of lyrics." Despite going back to the track again and again, "I just couldn’t get the bad lyrics out of my head. They rhymed terribly, and they were just engraved in my brain."

What led to the hit track? It was Diana Ross. Miller explained that he saw the singer at a resort in Idaho and became inspired. He recalled the time he performed on the variety show Hullabaloo in 1965, with Ross and her group, the Supremes, also there.

“I was thinking about Diana when I went home for lunch, and I just thought about what the Supremes would do with this song,” he told Guitar Player. “After that, I wrote the lyrics to ‘Abracadabra’ in 15 minutes. I just sat down and I could see them saying, I want to reach out and grab ya."

Like many classics, it wasn't well received by the record label, which thought it wouldn't be a success and would end Miller's career. When the band was abroad performing, Miller was stunned to see "Abracadabra" go No. 1 and would do the same later in the U.S.

The track became one of the band's signature hits that has been covered and sampled by other artists over the years. Even Eminem interpolated the song in his 2024 single "Houdini" and has been used in a few series and films.

Sabrina Carpenter Turns Heads in Look That Pays Homage to Audrey Hepburn’s Classic Film

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:52am

Sabrina Carpenter has arrived at the 2026 Met Gala, and her outfit is a glamorous nod to Old Hollywood.

Wearing a custom Dior slit tulle dress by Jonathan Anderson, the look pays homage to Audrey Hepburn’s classic film Sabrina. The dress is wrapped in rhinestone film strips, which Vogue said includes film stills of Humphrey Bogart and William Holden.

This year’s event marks Carpenter’s fourth time at the Met Gala. However, this time she’s back as a member of the host committee, alongside celebrities like Teyana Taylor, Gwendoline Christie, Doja Cat and more.

Carpenter made her debut at the Met Gala in 2022, wearing a stunning full-length skirt with a matching gold bandeau for the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme. In 2025, she wore a Louis Vuitton bodysuit, which Elle called “a red carpet twist on the office siren aesthetic.”

“My look for every year has been totally different,” Carpenter told Vogue last year.

Ahead of her appearance at the Met Gala, Carpenter released a star-studded music video for her song “House Tour.” Starring Carpenter alongside Margaret Qualley and Madelyn Cline, the video immediately caused a buzz among fans, receiving over 1 million views in under three hours.

Stunning in lingerie, the video finds Carpenter and her friends in a vintage-decorated house. Carpenter attributed the creative direction of the video to her co-star, Qualley.

“I’m so grateful to my beautiful brilliant partner in crime [Margaret Qualley] for directing this adventure of a video with me, and of course to my darling [Madelyn Cline] for bringing her excellence and charm to every frame,” Carpenter said on Instagram. "We shot on vista vision in the Hollywood hills very late into the night.. this was a very ambitious hardworking crew i am incredibly grateful for.”

The ‘Healthy’ Lunch Staple That's Silently Spiking Your Blood Sugar, According to Dietitians

    Tue, 05/05/2026 - 9:50am

We often notice marketing ploys when scrolling through social media, driving down a highway, looking at billboards or watching TV. But registered dietitians warn that it's vital to recognize the sneaky tactics we come across when shopping at the grocery store. Many processed foods use buzzy words that make them seem healthier than they are, leading to various health issues, including with blood sugar.

"This 'health halo' can give a food a one-note stamp of wellness, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Take an acai bowl: it may be labeled 'organic,' 'whole,' or 'all-natural,' yet still include ingredients that can spike blood sugar quickly," explains Kaitlin Hippley, M.Ed., RDN, LD, CDCES, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator in Cleveland, Ohio. "Looking at the full picture is the best way to decide if it truly fits your personal needs and goals."

Let's back up for a second: It's completely normal for blood sugar to rise after meals. "Your blood sugar naturally rises and falls throughout the day, so it’s not like we’re looking for a completely flat line," Amanda Sauceda, MS, RD, a registered dietitian, tells Parade. "Rather, you want to eat food that causes a gentle rise and fall in your blood sugar. This type of eating pattern helps you healthily fuel your body and gives you sustained energy."

Lunch isn't always the slowest time of day and can present a special challenge. You may be working or on the go, so you want something easy. Unfortunately, convenience foods are more likely to be processed and high in sugar. Still, registered dietitians say you'll want to opt for foods that truly nourish your body, and they say there's one "healthy" lunch staple that consistently spikes blood sugar. The good news? There are some delicious alternatives.

The ‘Healthy’ Lunch Staple That's Silently Spiking Your Blood Sugar, According to Dietitians

    Catherine Falls Commercial/Getty Images

"Flavored yogurts often have 20 to 25 grams of added sugar, similar to a candy bar," reveals Theresa Link, RD, a registered dietician at Virta Health. "That added sugar is what drives the spike."

Hippley echoes these sentiments, sharing that flavored yogurt can rapidly increase blood sugar.

"Yogurt can be a great addition to a meal, snack or ingredient swap, but it can spike blood sugar when it’s high in added sugars or low in protein and fat," she says. "Flavored and fruit-on-the-bottom options are common culprits, often packing more added sugar than you’d expect. Even some nonfat varieties digest more quickly, leading to a faster rise in blood glucose."

Sauceda gets it—plain yogurt can be boring. "When I first had plain yogurt, I didn’t love it and ended up adding a bunch of strawberry jelly," she says. "It turned out more jelly than yogurt and more sugar. This is why you also want to look towards your toppings, because that may be spiking your blood sugar."

Yep, even the DIY version of flavored yogurt can send your blood sugar on a rollercoaster. For context, the American Heart Association suggests limiting added sugars to 6 to 9 teaspoons daily. Sauceda notes that 4 grams of added sugar is about 1 teaspoon. So, if your flavored yogurt has 20 grams of added sugar, you're already at 5 teaspoons—in a single serving at lunch time.

What Happens When Your Blood Sugar Spikes

Here's a look at how your body responds to a sugary lunch like flavored yogurt. "After you eat carbohydrates, your body breaks them down into glucose—sugar—to use for energy," says Mckenzie Dryden, RD, a registered dietitian with HonorHealth. "Glucose circulates in the bloodstream before being sent to the cells for immediate energy or the liver for storage."

Dryden shares that when you eat a meal with a ton of carbohydrates, especially ones that break down quickly (like the simple sugars in flavored yogurt), your blood glucose levels go up and your pancreas has to work harder to raise insulin levels to bring your blood glucose back down. What goes up must come down—so you'll soon experience a drop in blood sugars (and may feel more irritable or tired). In the long term, frequent spikes and crashes can pose significant health concerns.

"Chronic spikes and dips can lead to an increased risk of developing insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease," Dryden says. "Uncontrolled high blood sugar can also cause nerve and organ damage."

If you're already living with type 2 diabetes, Link says regular blood sugar spikes and crashes can make it harder to manage it.

5 Tips for Choosing a Yogurt That Won’t Spike Blood Sugar

Yogurt isn't off the table if you love eating it for lunch. Dietitians say that the key is to become label-literate so you can choose a blood sugar-friendly alternative to flavored yogurt. Here's how to shop for yogurt like a dietitian.

    1. Start with added sugar

First things first, ignore the jargon on the front of the yogurt container and flip to the nutrition label on the back. Dryden says you'll want to focus on "added sugar."

"Flavored yogurts tend to have higher amounts of added sugar, so I recommend looking for a product with less than 10 grams of added sugar per serving," she says. "You can also opt for plain yogurt without added sugar and top with fruit and/or nuts to add flavor. Yogurts that use alternative sweeteners are another option that contain little or no added sugar."

    2. See the total carbohydrates

Sugar isn't the only carbohydrate yogurt contains. If you need to count carbs because you have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, you must look at "total carbohydrates," rather than just "sugar" or "added sugar."

"This provides a more complete view of how the yogurt may affect blood sugar as part of your overall meal or snack," Hippley says.

    3. Check the fat content

Dryden shares that your approach to fat will depend on your needs and goals.

"A yogurt higher in fat can help you feel full and satisfied, and could help improve the taste if there is no added sugar," Dryden says. "Low-fat yogurt is typically lower in calories, and the American Heart Association recommends low-fat options for heart health."

    4. Peep the protein

Protein can also make a big difference in how satisfying a yogurt is. The more satisfying a low or no-sugar option is, the less you'll miss the added sweet stuff.

"When I am looking for a satiating snack, I want the yogurt to have at least 15 grams of protein," Sauceda says. "I’ve been enjoying Skyr yogurt more often because it can have more protein per spoonful, and I like the thicker texture. Plant-based yogurts tend to be lower in protein, so make sure to read the label."

    5. Go with your gut

Research suggests a possible link between imbalances in gut bacteria and increased type 2 diabetes risk. But some yogurts can really support gut health.

"Fermented foods, like yogurt, can be a source of probiotic bacteria which could help your gut," Sauceda points out. "Choose a yogurt that has live and active cultures so you can get those benefits."

Related: I Asked 3 Nutrition Experts What Habit Matters Most for Metabolism—They All Said the Same Thing

How To Make Plain Yogurt Taste Better—Without Spiking Glucose

Sauceda was once cold on plain yogurt, but now it's a staple in her fridge. Here's how she—and other RDs—say you can warm up to the less-sugary option.

    1. Buy small and sample a few. Sauceda suggests taste testing different yogurts. "Buy a single cup before committing to a pack or a tub of yogurt," she says. "This way, you don’t waste food or money. I find that every brand of yogurt has its own texture and taste profile."
    2. Jazz it up with fruits, seeds, nuts and spices. Hippley says that berries, chia seeds, nuts and nut butters add satisfying fiber, protein and healthy fats to slow glucose absorption. She adds that a sprinkle of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla adds sweetness—not sugar.
    3. Try something savory. If you aren't hankering for something sweet, you can still enjoy the plain yogurt in your fridge for lunch. "For a savory twist, use Greek yogurt in place of sour cream for the same tangy flavor," Dryden says. "You can also mix it with savory herbs and spices like lemon, dill, garlic and onion to use as a dip or salad dressing."
