Chris Stapleton‘s performance of the national anthem at the 2023 Super Bowl will go down in history as one of the best of all time. But don’t ask him to do it again — he says he’s done.

Talking to Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the Dirty Mo Media podcast last year, Stapleton admitted that he studied hard leading up to the big day because he didn’t want to mess it up.

“I don’t get nervous to play, necessarily, [but] that one, I’m going to make sure I’m as prepared as I can be,” he said. His ultimate goal? “To get through it to a degree where I executed the national anthem without insulting the national anthem.”

Stapleton’s rendition went off without a hitch — some would argue it was just as good as Whitney Houston’s, which is an all-time great — but it was such a nerve-wracking experience that it’s a one-and-done for the “Broken Halos” hitmaker.

“I would have people ask me to sing the national anthem for various things, and I jokingly always said, ‘No, I’ll just do it when it’s time to do it at the Super Bowl,'” the country star reflected to Earnhardt Jr. “And I just turned it down a lot.”

“… and I do say now that I’ve officially retired from it, as well,” Stapleton said flat-out.

He will acknowledge his talent and knows it was a successful performance, he’s just not eager to give it another go. “I’m not saying my version wasn’t good. I think it was good,” he continued, modestly giving most of the credit to “TV editing.”

As for whether it was as good as Whitney’s? “I’ll defer,” Stapleton told TODAY in 2023.

Jason Kelce would definitely be on Team Stapleton if he were asked to vote on the best anthem rendition ever. He played for the Eagles in that year’s Super Bowl (against his brother Travis on the Chiefs), and he was seen in tears as Stapleton sang.

Three years later, the country singer has stood by his word, and there have been no new national anthem performances since that February football game. He’s sticking to smaller stages and is currently on a headlining tour, with dates booked across the United States (plus one in Canada) into October.

Patti LaBelle released the ballad “You Are My Friend” in 1978. The song was included on her first solo album after leaving the band LaBelle, known for their classic hit, “Lady Marmalade.”

 “You Are My Friend” became one of LaBelle’s signature songs, which she frequently performs at concerts. She even performed it at her mother’s funeral in 1978. However, it never reached No. 1 on the charts. It peaked at 61 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart.

“You Are My Friend” was written after LaBelle read a journal entry written by her husband, Armstead Edwards. He had scribbled the words in his journal after an emotional day with their son, Zuri. Noticing he was upset, his son tried comforting him by stroking his forehead and saying, “It’s okay, Daddy. You my friend.”

When LaBelle eventually read the entry along with her musical director, James “Budd” Ellison, her husband was furious. “We had no right to invade his privacy,” LaBelle said in Don’t Block The Blessings: Revelations Of A Lifetime, her 1996 autobiography. “Later, when Armstead cooled off, we all wound up agreeing that his words were the makings of a beautiful song. While I was in the kitchen cooking, Budd was at the piano composing. By the time we finished dinner, the three of us had finished the song Zuri inspired: ‘You Are My Friend.'”

Her son, Zuri, is now her business manager. As she told Philly Mag, “I trust him, and it’s wonderful. We have lots of fights — he’ll tell me I shouldn’t wear something I want to wear, or he’ll tell me not to try something I want to try. Do this. Don’t do that. But I usually win.”

LaBelle had other hits over her career, including “If Only You Knew,” “Stir It Up,” and “New Attitude.” She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

LaBelle is currently 82. She is still actively touring across the United States.

Darth Maul has been chasing his revenge since 1999, and Star Wars just confirmed when fans get to watch him keep chasing it. At D23 2026 in Anaheim, Lucasfilm gave the former Sith apprentice’s animated series its first real release window, ending months of speculation about when the story would pick back up.

The confirmation came during the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord panel at D23, where head writer and executive producer Matt Michnovetz told the crowd that Season 2 will arrive in 2027, adding simply, “Get ready for it.” Welcome news for fans (like me) as it’s the first concrete release information since the show was renewed even before the first season finished airing. Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni announced the renewal on StarWars.com just four days ahead of the April 6, 2026 premiere, a vote of confidence that paid off once the show aired.

Season 1 followed Maul, voiced by Sam Witwer, as he rebuilt his criminal network during the early days of the Empire, only to lose many of his allies along the way. The ten episode run closed with Maul escaping the planet Janix with help from Solo‘s Dryden Vos, agreeing to help him seize control of the Crimson Dawn syndicate in exchange. That alliance sets up the central tension of Season 2, along with unresolved threads involving Devon Izara, the Jedi Padawan Maul looks to train, and the fate of Captain Brander Lawson, who stayed behind at the end of the season to protect his son.

Sam Witwer had already hinted the wait wouldn’t be long. In a May 2026 interview, the actor said, “It’s not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too, too long,” noting the team had already been developing the new season for some time.

The 2027 window promises Shadow Lord’s return in a packed year for the franchise, which marks its 50th anniversary. Lucasfilm has already confirmed Ahsoka Season 2 for January, a limited theatrical re-release of the original 1977 film in February, and Ryan Gosling and Shawn Levy’s Starfighter in May, among other titles. An exact premiere date, episode count, and whether the show keeps its two-episodes-per-week release pattern have not yet been announced.

If you have perennials in your garden, you know how much TLC certain plants can need. From pruning to deadheading to cutting back, there are endless ways to manage your perennials throughout the growing season.

That said, are there any perennials that need to be cut back in late August? And any that should not be cut back in late August?

To find out, we consulted with two expert gardeners: Sam Niemann, a horticulturist and the founder of houseplant fertilizer company Bleume and landscape design firm Grown by Design, and Bruce Hellerick, a master horticulturalist and the Co-Owner and President of Hellerick’s Adventure Farm.

“There are NO perennials that should be cut back to the ground until the tops have been killed off by cold weather and they have stopped growing,” Hellerick tells Parade. When that happens, it will be “time to ‘deadhead’ or remove spent blooms and/or old flower stalks.” But in late August, all you’ll want to do is partially cut back certain perennials.

It’s important to note that cutting back does not mean the same thing as deadheading. Deadheading is when you completely remove a plant’s seed heads, spent blooms and old growth, according to Penn State Extension. Meanwhile, cutting back a plant involves trimming off stems and buds during the growing season, with a goal of encouraging more robust blooms to pop up later in the season, per Extension Master Gardener Volunteers from Durham County, N.C.

9 Perennials to Cut Back in Late August 1. Daylilies

Once your daylilies have stopped flowering, you can cut them back, says Hellerick.

“Follow the leftover flower stem to the base of the plant and cut off around 2 to 3 inches from the ground,” he explains. “If the stems are brown and dried, a gentle tug on the stem and the stem will easily come away from the base of the plant.” You can then chuck the cut stems in your compost pile.

2. Salvia

Plants in the Salvia genus, such as sage and rosemary, “bloom throughout the summer but often begin to look a little tired by August,” says Niemann.

“I recommend cutting back spent blooms to keep your Salvias looking fresh,” he advises. “I don’t recommend cutting the plant back to the base, but you can remove the top third of the plant to remove the spent blooms.”

3. Tickseed

Flowers in the Coreopsis genus, like calliopsis and tickseed, can flower all summer long and even into the fall. However, they “sometimes looks tired come August,” says Niemann.

“If your plants are starting to look a little past their prime, you can prune back the top third of the plant,” he advises. “If your Coreopsis still looks nice, you can wait to cut it back till late fall.”

4. Shasta daisy

By August, most Shasta daisy plants are done blooming—and looking “quite tired,” according to Niemann.

“Although they won’t rebloom, I find that cutting back Shasta daisies helps keep the garden looking tidy,” he says. “I recommend cutting off the top third of the plant, removing the spent blooms but leaving the majority of the foliage.”

Hellerick also recommends deadheading shasta daisies this time of year.

“Follow the stem below the dead flower and look for the second leaf,” he says. “Cut the stem below the second leaf. This will prompt the plant to begin to grow and produce more flowers in a month of so.”

5. Catmints

Catmints, part of the Nepeta genus, are typically overdue for a trim by late August, according to Hellerick.

“Most catmints have been blooming since Memorial Day,” he says. “At this point they may look a bit ratty and not blooming. Remove the long gangly stems and then cut the outer 4 to 6 inches off the whole plant. By fall it will begin to rebloom.”

6. Hardy geraniums

“By late summer, hardy geraniums are often looking a little overgrown,” says Niemann. “I recommend cutting back spent blooms or wayward branches back to the main part of the plant,” as this can “help encourage more blooms.”

7. Butterfly bush

“At this time of year, butterfly bush has been blooming for about 2 months,” says Hellerick. “Find the dead flower spikes and follow the stem back to the third or fourth leaf behind the dead flower and cut there.” This will help the plant start to grow more flowers and side shoots.

8. Roses

“If you haven’t been able to stay on top of deadheading your roses, August is a great time to cut them back,” says Niemann. “If your roses have gotten too large for their space, you can also give them a late summer prune to keep their size in check. Deadheading or pruning back your roses in August will often encourage a fresh round of blooms in the fall.”

9. Yarrow

“Yarrow blooms throughout the summer but may look messy by August,” explains Niemann. “If your yarrow plants have spent blooms or are oversized, you can cut them back in late summer.”

He adds that in many cases, cutting back yarrow can result in a second flush of flowers.

5 Perennials You Shouldn’t Cut Back in Late August 1. Hydrangeas

According to Niemann, August is when hydrangea blooms typically hit their peak. Because of this, he recommends “leaving hydrangea blooms standing into winter to enjoy their full show and let them provide winter interest.”

2. Black-eyed susans

Black-eyed susans are typically in full bloom in August and should be left alone. “Cut them back in early spring before new growth begins,” Hellerick says.

3. Lilacs

“Lilacs bloom on old wood, so cutting them back in August will just remove next year’s blooms,” Niemann explains. “Instead, I recommend pruning lilacs back immediately after they flower in the spring.”

4. Chrysanthemums

“Chrysanthemums are getting ready to bloom in the fall, so it’s important not to cut them back,” says Niemann. If you do, you’ll just be removing the blooms that were getting ready to open up.

“Instead, I recommend cutting them back in early summer to encourage branching and more blooms,” he advises.

5. Peonies

“Peonies that have bloomed in spring should have a lush set of deep green foliage at this time of year,” Hellerick explains. “As the foliage dies back in the fall, the energy from the leaves is transferred to the roots of plant to produce beautiful flower in the spring.”

Because of this, Hellerick warns, you should never cut back peony foliage. Instead, in early spring, just before new growth starts, you can cut the dead stems to be about 3 inches tall.

Celine Dion is revealing what it takes to get back onstage after years of navigating stiff-person syndrome, from intense workouts to ongoing rehabilitation.

The Grammy-winning singer, 58, detailed her health and preparation for her upcoming five-week Paris residency in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar. Dion, who was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022, has performed publicly just once in the past six years, at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her Paris shows begin Sept. 12.

But Dion’s comeback training looks very different from what fans might expect. Instead of simply focusing on her voice, she is putting her body through an intense regimen designed to rebuild her strength and mobility.

During a recent session at a Las Vegas recording studio, Dion worked through 90-minute Pilates sessions, ballet exercises and rehabilitation as she prepares for her five-week Paris residency. At one point, she stretched into a wide split while working at a ballet barre — a striking display of how far she has come since stiff-person syndrome left her struggling to walk and perform.

Dion has performed publicly only once in the past six years, taking the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her Paris residency, which begins Sept. 12, marks her most significant return to live performance since the neurological disorder forced her to cancel shows and suspend her 2023 European tour.

Her preparation goes well beyond Pilates. Dion told Harper’s Bazaar that her rehabilitation includes new medications, physical therapy, vocal therapy and immunotherapy. She also takes ballet classes with a local company twice a week in addition to her Pilates sessions three times a week.

“Instead of questioning life, can you live life? So I’m living my life, girl. I’m living the life,” Dion said. But she’s also looking forward to returning to the stage and connecting with fans. “It’s been so long, I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” she said.

Can you believe Carrie Underwood‘s “Before He Cheats” never reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart? That’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s true.

The song — which was released 20 years ago, on August 19, 2006 — is considered her career-defining song. It was a massive success by definition, but somehow only peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, an all-genre chart that measures sales, streaming and radio airplay, then ranks the results.

Released as the fourth single from Underwood’s debut album, Some Hearts, “Before He Cheats” is a gritty, rageful breakup song that showed the girl next door’s range as an artist at a time when she’d only released sweet songs (“Jesus, Take the Wheel,” “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” “Some Hearts”).

She was still pretty fresh off of her 2005 American Idol win when she dropped “Before He Cheats” and essentially tore the roof off of country music like an EF5 tornado. The music video is wild, too — she got to wear smoky eye makeup and smash up her cheatin’ man’s truck with a baseball bat!

While the content feels tame all these years later, in 2006, it was edgy, especially in country music. It served as proof that no, Underwood was not necessarily the pure, wholesome gal from Oklahoma she was being painted as — she was a force to be reckoned with.

Despite not topping the Hot 100 chart, “Before He Cheats” did remain there for a really, really long time (64 weeks). To date, Underwood is one of the most successful country music artists of all time.

Underwood has kept a tight grip on her popularity in the 21 years since we met her on American Idol. Though she’s not touring as heavily as she once was — she and her husband Mike Fisher are raising two sons in Nashville — she’s still very much around. Look for her to perform at the Grand Ole Opry this week (Aug. 21 and 22) ahead of a one-off show in Lenox, Mass. on Aug. 29 and a music festival appearance in early September.

This past spring, the country megastar returned to the judges’ table on American Idol, but it has not yet been revealed whether she’ll be back again for 2027.

Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, was photographed in New York City with his wife Rachel Danis on Thursday, Aug. 13.

TMZ published photos of Patrick and Rachel, who were said to be having a “tense” interaction while seated outside in the outside area of an apartment. An eyewitness told the outlet that the couple “spent roughly 30 minutes on and off their phones and appeared visibly stressed.”

This marks the first time that Patrick has been photographed in public since he testified in his ex-wife’s ongoing murder trial. Lindsay has admitted to killing the former couple’s three young children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

Why Is Lindsay Clancy on Trial?

According to the court proceedings, Lindsay strangled her three children in the basement of her home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023 while Patrick was out running errands. She then slit her wrists and her throat before jumping out a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt.

Lindsay has been charged with three counts of first degree murder, but her trial isn’t meant to determine whether or not she’s guilty. The defense claims that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was overmedicated, which led her to do the unthinkable while the prosecution claims that she was of sound mind when committing the murders.

What Has Patrick Clancy Said About Lindsay Clancy?

Patrick, who got remarried sometime over the past three years, has openly supported his ex-wife.

“Our marriage was wonderful and diametrically grew stronger as her condition rapidly worsened. I took as much pride in being her husband as I did in being a father and felt persistently lucky to have her in my life,” he wrote on a GoFundMe page; the campaign, intended to help Patrick pay for “medical bills, funeral services, and legal help,” raised more than $1 million. “She loved being a nurse, but nothing matched her intense love for our kids and dedication to being a mother. It was all she ever wanted. Her passion taught me how to be a better father.”

“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace,” he added.

In the past year, Southwest Airlines has undergone some major changes, from introducing Starlink Wi-Fi to eliminating one of its longtime signature offerings and assigning passengers specific seats on flights. Today, it’s also celebrating a big milestone, marking the first anniversary of its Getaways program.

Announced on August 19, 2025, Getaways by Southwest allows customers to book an entire vacation package through Southwest—not just their flights. The end-to-end vacation packages can include flights, hotel, car rentals, and ground transportation, all bundled together, and because it’s all done through the same program, customers earn Southwest five Rapid Rewards points per dollar of spending. While weight and size limits apply, Getaways customers can also check two bags for free (Southwest eliminated its free checked bag policy in 2025). 

One year after its inception, the most popular destinations for the program have been revealed, with Las Vegas, Nevada in the top spot, followed by Cancún, Mexico, and Orlando, Florida.  “Customers booking Getaways are looking for flexible, easy-to-book packages that offer value, savings, and policies designed with them in mind,” said Phil Gouel, Vice President Product Development at Southwest Airlines, in a statement shared exclusively with Parade. “Las Vegas continues to be our most-booked Getaways destination thanks to our robust flight schedule, wide selection of hotel partners, and the incredible variety of experiences customers can enjoy while they’re in town.”

Inkcarceration Tattoo & Music Festival has teased fans with a major update for its highly anticipated 2027 return.

Following the massive success of its 2026 event, hosting a sold-out crowd of 90,000 concertgoers, the major heavy metal festival will be returning to the iconic Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield.

In an Instagram update, the festival announced the official dates for the three-day event.

“Inkmates… your sentence continues. We’re heading back behind the walls of the Ohio State Reformatory July 16 to 18, 2027,” the caption reads.

Accompanied by a haunting clip, the announcement quickly drew excited reactions from followers who couldn’t wait to see the intense performances and thrilling band lineups.

“Excited!” one wrote.

“Lockup!” another added.

The same goes for a follower who said, “You don’t even know how excited I am for this!!! I’m ready for my sentence!! 4th year going.”

“Yeah, buddy. The planning has begun,” a fan echoed.

Others are also looking forward to seeing their favorite bands.

“Let’s see @systemofadown,” one said.

“Please bring Limp Bizkit,” another added.

As one of the biggest heavy metal festivals in Ohio, Inkcarceration will begin its ticket presale for subscribers on Friday, Aug. 21 at 12 p.m. EST, while general ticket sales will start on Monday, Aug. 24 at 12 p.m. EST.

In addition, the festival also offers different packages, including three-day GA, Camping and VIP options. The VIP package includes full three-day VIP access, an air-conditioned lounge, elevated stage viewing, fast-track VIP entry to the festival and more.

The venue has been the Inkcarceration Tattoo & Music Festival’s location since its inaugural event in 2018.

For years, fans have witnessed high-energy performances from bands on three main performance stages, while the indoor setup also features a tattoo convention showcasing more than 100 tattoo artists.

In 2026, more than 65 bands performed across the three stages, headlined by Disturbed, Bad Omens and Limp Bizkit.

Adding to the excitement, music veterans and rising talents took the stage, including Papa Roach, Ice Nine Kills, A Day to Remember, Lorna Shore, Machine Head, Poppy, Starset, Jinjer, Hatebreed, Sleep Theory, Fit For A King, Memphis May Fire, Jutes, Dying Wish, Sanguisugabogg, Lacuna Coil, Escape The Fate, Alien Ant Farm, PeelingFlesh, Spite, Norma Jean, Silent Planet and many more.

As for Inkcarceration 2027, fans will have to wait for more details to be announced in the coming months.

“Fairytale Of New York” was released by The Pogues in 1987. According to The Telegraph, it is the most played Christmas song of the century. It took two years for Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan to finish writing the song. “Every night I used to have another bash at nailing the lyrics, but I knew they weren’t right,” McGowan told Nine. “It is by far the most complicated song that I have ever been involved in writing and performing. The beauty of it is that it sounds really simple.”

When it came to the singers in the song, singer and songwriter Kirsty MacColl was chosen to perform alongside frontman Shane McGowan. Steve Lillywhite, who produced the final version of the song, said, “To be honest, they weren’t 100 per cent convinced that Kirsty was the right person. I spent a whole day on Kirsty’s vocals. I made sure every single word had exactly the right nuance. I remember taking it in on Monday morning and playing it to the band – and they were just dumbfounded.”

However, McGowan loved her from the start. “I was madly in love with Kirsty from the first time I saw her on Top of the Pops,”  he said. “She was a genius in her own right, and she was a better producer than he was! She could make a song her own, and she made Fairytale her own.”

Despite its popularity, the song has never reached the No. 1 spot in the US or UK. However, Spider Stacy told NME, “It doesn’t need it. ‘Fairytale of New York’ not being Number One is a bit like how neither [acclaimed footballers] Johan Cruyff nor George Best won a World Cup!”

The Pogues had a few more hits over the years, including “Dirty Old Town,” “A Pair of Brown Eyes,” and “A Rainy Night in Soho.” The band also received a lifetime achievement award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in 2006.

Unfortunately, MacGowan died in 2023 at the age of 65. The surviving members of The Pogues went on tour after this time.

Frank Beard’s name seemed almost too perfect for ZZ Top.

The longtime drummer, who died Monday, Aug. 17 at 77, was the only member of the legendary Texas rock trio who didn’t wear the massive facial hair that became synonymous with the band.

But there was actually a reason Beard didn’t have the famous ZZ Top look, and it wasn’t necessarily part of some elaborate joke.

Beard joined ZZ Top in 1969, alongside guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill. The trio would go on to become one of rock’s most recognizable bands, with their music and distinctive appearance helping define their image.

Ironically, however, Beard was the odd man out when it came to facial hair.

Beard explained that he actually had a beard earlier in his career in the documentary ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas. But when ZZ Top reunited after a period apart, Gibbons and Hill had grown considerably larger beards.

Beard decided to shave his.

“I had a beard, but it wasn’t (even) near the beard they had,” he recalled. “So I shaved it pretty right after we got back together when I saw they (had much more beard than I had).”

Gibbons apparently wasn’t bothered by the irony. In fact, he saw an upside to his bandmate being the only clean-shaven member.

“Frank didn’t mind being beardless,” Gibbons said, noting that Beard could still go to the shopping mall without being interrupted.

The facial-hair contrast eventually became part of ZZ Top’s identity. Gibbons and Hill became famous for their extraordinarily long beards, while Beard’s name provided an amusing counterpoint.

And despite not sharing the band’s signature look, Beard remained behind the drum kit for more than five decades, helping anchor the band’s blues-rock sound on songs including “La Grange,” “Tush,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs.”

ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Beard’s death was announced Aug. 18. He died in hospice care at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Panicking, Chandler tries to play it off as a friendly goodbye habit he picked up abroad — and doubles down by kissing everyone else in the room too.

It’s one of Chandler’s most delightfully chaotic moments, and a perfect example of how far he’d go to keep their relationship secret safe. Of course, the cover-up only made things more obvious and hilarious.

3. ‘The One with the Blackout’ (Season 1)

In Season 1, Friends gave fans their first real taste of the self-deprecating humor that would become Chandler Bing’s trademark for the next decade. In “The One With the Blackout,” he gets trapped in an ATM vestibule with Victoria’s Secret model Jill Goodacre when a citywide blackout hits New York.

Starstruck and nervous, he fumbles his way through their time together, unsure whether to call the outside of the bank a vestibule or an atrium. It’s one of Chandler’s most delightfully chaotic moments, and a perfect example of how far he’d go to keep his cool under pressure. Of course, keeping his cool never quite worked out.

This episode was Perry’s favorite, per PEOPLE Magazine. “The interesting thing about that episode was I didn’t speak much; it was mostly in voiceover,” Perry told Entertainment Weekly in 2004, as reported by PEOPLE. “We prerecorded what I said, and I had to react.”

2. ‘The One with All the Rugby’ (Season 4)

In Season 4, Chandler reunited with his on-again, off-again ex Janice (Maggie Wheeler) and, desperate to avoid getting pulled back into their relationship, tells her he’s being transferred to Yemen for work. The lie backfires spectacularly when Janice insists on helping him pack and refuses to leave his side until he’s actually boarded the plane.

Few running bits are as hilarious as Chandler’s increasingly absurd attempts to dodge Janice, and this one remains the gold standard. The bit ends with him boarding the plane and asking an older woman if he could stay with her when he arrives in the country.

1. ‘The One with the Proposal, Part 2‘ (Season 6)

Chandler spends the second part of “The One With The Proposal” pretending he’s not ready for marriage. However, in the Season 6 episode, he’s been secretly planning to ask Monica to marry him. It backfires beautifully. However, convinced he’s not serious about their future, Monica decides to propose to him first.

She gets down on one knee, but the moment overwhelms her, and she can’t get the words out, so Chandler gently takes over and finishes. Through tears, he tells her she makes him happier than he ever thought he could be, and it remains one of the most quietly devastating, tender moments the show has ever given fans.

Today, on what would have been Matthew Perry’s 57th birthday, the best way to celebrate is the way Friends fans do best: firing up a rerun, laughing at the one-liners, and remembering just how much joy he brought into our living rooms.

Shakira, often referred to as the “queen of Latin music,” is using her influence for a good cause with a major move to help her home country.

Following the devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Colombia, the pop star is showing her full support for efforts to rebuild schools that were severely affected by the disaster.

In an Instagram post, the 49-year-old singer shared her experience as she personally visited the affected area in Quibdó, the capital of the department of Chocó, where roughly 40 schools were destroyed by the disaster.

Shakira also met educators, students and Chocó’s governor, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, as well as Quibdó’s mayor, Rafael Bolaños, to better understand the region’s needs.

In a social media update, the Colombian singer pledged to donate a combined $1 million through $500,000 from FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and $500,000 from Live Nation contribution to support education in the country.

Moreover, Colombians also expressed how proud they are of the award-winning singer for setting a good example.

The organization’s focus is to provide daily meals, clothing and psychological support, as well as build public schools to provide children with better access to education.

That announcement? The revival of the Yeti that hasn’t worked for years on Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. During the star-studded Disney Experiences panel, Disney finally announced it would be working to repair the massive Audio-Animatronics figure of the Yeti that used to swipe its gargantuan claws at riders as they reached the finale of the ride. 

During the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress Disney Experiences panel, Thomas Mazloum, Chairman, Disney Experiences, excitedly exclaimed, “We’re bringing the Yeti back to life inside Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!”

As the crowd cheered, a disco ball lowered into the Honda Center arena, and thousands of Disney fans were treated to a live performance of “I Will Survive” by the iconic Gloria Gaynor. This was obviously a nod to Disney fans’ nickname for the frozen Yeti Audio-Animatronics figure, Disco Yeti. The name was given thanks in part to the strobe light placed near the Yeti to make it look more ominous, even though it was no longer moving. 

The approximately 25-foot-tall Yeti inside Expedition Everest was one of Disney’s most complex Audio-Animatronics created by Walt Disney Imagineering at the time. Former Imagineer Joe Rohde has said in the past that the issue has never been that there are no solutions to fix the Yeti; it’s more about timing and opportunity.

In an X post from 2023, he said, “The issue is a complex interface between finance, operations, marketing, design, timing, engineering, narrative, and guest satisfaction. All of these need to line up to make a viable solution. There are solutions. There are not opportunities.”

Now that Disney is getting ready to add three new attractions to Disney’s Animal Kingdom with the opening of Tropical Americas, it seems the operations and timing side of the Yeti problem may be fixed thanks to an increase in the park’s attraction capacity.

Currently, Disney’s Animal Kingdom only offers six rides and two shows. Once Tropical Americas opens, the park will have nine rides, including new attractions themed to Indiana Jones and Encanto.

Disney did not share a timeline for Expedition Everest’s closure or when the Yeti will come alive again.

There is no denying that “Hotel California” is one of the most iconic rock songs of all time

Released in 1977, it was the second single off their album of the same name and is best known for its two-minute and 12-second electric guitar solo played between Don Felder and Joe Walsh.

However, “Hotel California” was almost named something completely different due to its influences from Latin and reggae music. Felder, who wrote all the music for the song, explained the creative process to MusicRadar in 2012.

“I would write track ideas — introductions, verses, choruses, solos — and I’d put them on a cassette and give them to Don and Glenn. I did this with the songs for ‘Hotel California,’ and I said, ‘If there’s anything you like on these cassettes and you want to finish writing, let’s do that,’ he shared. “Henley said, ‘I like that song that sounds like a Mexican reggae or Bolero.’ So he liked the one that became ‘Hotel California.'”

So, the first working title for “Hotel California” was actually “Mexican Reggae.” They went on to name the song after the album, which was inspired by the band’s drive into The Golden State.

“Nobody was from California, and if you drive into L.A. at night […] you can just see this glow on the horizon of lights, and the images that start running through your head of Hollywood and all the dreams that you have, and so it was kind of about that […] what we started writing the song about,” Felder added.

The song went on to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, win the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1978, and is widely regarded as one of the best rock songs of all time.

Don Henley, who wrote the lyrics for “Hotel California,” opened up about the song’s true meaning in an interview with CBS News in 2016.

“Well, I always say, it’s a journey from innocence to experience. It’s not really about California; it’s about America,” Henley explained. “It’s about the dark underbelly of the American dream. It’s about excess, it’s about narcissism. It’s about the music business. It’s about a lot of different…. It can have a million interpretations.”
