Jed York is making headlines for reasons far removed from the football field, following his recent arrest in Ohio. According to TMZ, the San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO was taken into custody on Sunday, Aug. 23, on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. He was released on $5,000 bail.

York, who became the 49ers team president in 2008 and the principal owner in March 2024, was back in court on Monday, Aug. 24 where he pleaded no contest to possessing criminal tools after “prosecutors amended the original engaging-in-prostitution count to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.”

Shortly after the news went public, TMZ reported that York filed for divorce from Danielle York (nee Belluomini), whom he’d been with for well over a decade.

According to SF Gate, Danielle used to work as a teacher at a public school. She and Jed have two sons together, Jax and Brixton.

While Danielle has largely stayed out of the spotlight, she has occasionally supported Jed at 49ers events and shared glimpses of their family life online. Her social media presence is limited, however, and she appears to have made a conscious effort to keep her day-to-day life separate from the attention that comes with being married to an NFL team owner.

For the most part, the Yorks keep have kept their relationship—and subsequent split—completely private, and not much else is known about Danielle. She does appear to have an Instagram account, though it’s private. She also has an account on X, but she hasn’t posted on the platform since 2021.

As for Jed, he is the son of Marie Denise DeBartolo and John York, the former president of the San Francisco 49ers. His uncle, Edward J. DeBartolo Jr., is the former owner of the NFL franchise. Jed has an estimated net worth of $100 million, according to The Richest.

Jan said: “I absolutely love Selena. She took the lead right away. Her eye is very entertaining.”

Kym said: “And we want entertaining.”

Mark added: “On the first night, she was in my Top 4. She made a huge impression on me. She was amazing.”

Gleb said: “I felt as if I was back into my competition days with Adele. Because she’s so well trained in ballroom, she will be able to create that choreography that is authentic to the style. I wish there could have been a wow moment in the routine.”

Shirley teased: “But she definitely left you with a wow moment then, eh?”

Gleb responded: “100 percent. I am flying private jet right now, not even a Rolls Royce.”

Witney said: “I enjoyed the entire process. [Allen]’s so nice to dance with but I think he needs to work on believing in himself a little bit more and that will allow him to really make the choreography pop.”

Mark added: “Allen does need to bite down on the mouthpiece and come fighting for it because this is a hard job.”

Rylee said of AJ: “At the beginning, I felt that lightheartedness, but I will say that he’s kind of intense.”

Mark commented: “I’m concerned with the AJ feedback.”

Rylee added: “I don’t know if he’s going to be able to give affirmation to somebody. It was like constant critiques.”

Shirley said, “So under pressure you see how you would handle yourself.”

Kym added: “And there’s nothing like the pressure of Dancing with the Stars.”

Few songs bridge generations quite like Neil Diamond’s breakout 1969 release “Sweet Caroline.”

The track has somehow managed to outlast every music trend of the last 50 years. Even veteran newsman Dan Rather gave it a nod recently, singling out the recording as one of the few songs guaranteed to lift your spirits on impact.

In a new Substack, Rather discussed the song and its continued impact on listeners, 57 years after its debut. He called it an “enduring love song that became a worldwide phenomenon.”

Rather wrote, “Over the years, Diamond revealed the two-pronged inspiration of ‘Sweet Caroline.’ The emotional lyrics are about his then-wife, Marcia.”

He continued, “But he points to a charming magazine photo of Caroline Kennedy with her pony, Macaroni, flanked by her parents, President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, as the reason he chose her name for the song.” Additionally, Rather called the song a “reason to smile.”

Diamond set the record straight about the song’s inspiration in a 2007 Associated Press interview [per The Hollywood Reporter]. He recalled being a “young, broke songwriter” when a magazine photo of the president’s young daughter sparked the tune’s idea.

“It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony,” Diamond recalled. “It was such an innocent, wonderful picture, I immediately felt there was a song in there.”

He wrote the words and music to “Sweet Caroline” while visiting Memphis, Tennessee. The song was created in less than an hour.

“It was probably the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration,” he told the outlet. “I’m happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy.”

He concluded, “That song was written years ago, so I am just overwhelmed by the fact that it has returned and that, more importantly, people have taken it into their hearts for so many years.”

“Sweet Caroline” peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 4 in August 1969. It remained on the charts for a staggering 14 weeks.

The song’s transformation from a late ’60s pop single into a timeless cultural staple is precisely why it remains relevant today. Whether echoing through packed baseball stadiums or bringing people together at weddings, its staying power remains unmatched.

For Dan Rather, “Sweet Caroline” remains a song that continues to bring people together, making the classic track more than just nostalgia, but an enduring, necessary “reason to smile.”

In the age of true-crime obsession, another narrative series is coming down the pipeline over at HBO.

It was previously announced that Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) is set to star in The Trial of Louise Woodward, based on the shocking crime story dating back to the real-life woman’s trial in 1997.

Now, Deadline is reporting additional casting, with Catriona Chandler (Disney+’s Rivals) set to play the titular role. Fans will also recall seeing the 24-year-old actress in other recent projects such as Enola Holmes 2.

And for the Downton Abbey die-hards out there, Joanne Froggatt has also been cast, with Deadline reporting on Monday, August 24 that she’ll portray Louise’s mother, Susan. Froggatt, 46, won a Golden Globe and was Emmy-nominated three times for her standout role as Anna Bates, head housemaid at Downton Abbey.

More recently, the British actress has more recently been seen starring in Guy Ritchie’s MobLand and is now filming a role alongside Matt Dillon in the MGM+ series The Magnificent Seven.

Here’s the synopsis of HBO’s upcoming true-crime series, per Deadline: “The Trial of Louise Woodward tells the shocking true story of how, in 1997, an 18-year-old British au pair was accused of shaking to death a baby left in her care by her American host family, setting off an international media firestorm as the trial unfolds in full view of both the British and American public.”

The project reunites Fahy, 36, and Susanne Bier, who is also an executive producer and reportedly directs all episodes, following their star-studded Netflix mystery thriller The Perfect Couple.

“The trial of Louise Woodward raised profound questions about childcare, working mothers, class and the role of an emerging 24/7 media,” show creator Matthew Barry told Deadline last month. “Thirty years later, those questions feel more urgent and relevant than ever. I’m grateful to be working with Susanne and our partners at HBO to bring this story, in all its complexity, to the screen.”

Bret Michaels is no stranger to the stage or to the occasional change in his touring plans.

With the Poison frontman, 63, making headlines again over his 2026 tour schedule, fans may be surprised to learn that Michaels has had to cancel, postpone or step away from performances several times over the years.

From sudden hospitalizations to scheduling conflicts, here are five other times Michaels had to change his plans.

In June 2022, Michaels was scheduled to perform with Poison in Nashville as part of The Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

But shortly before the June 30 performance, Michaels was hospitalized following what he described as an “unforeseen medical complication.” Poison ultimately canceled its set.

Michaels later said he was grateful for the medical staff who treated him and hoped to return to the stage soon.

In December 2023, Michaels performed at Del Lago Resort & Casino in New York despite struggling with dehydration and his diabetes.

After the show, he went to the hospital. The following night’s performance had to be canceled and was rescheduled for a date at Mohegan Sun.

Michaels later thanked fans for understanding as he recovered.

Not every cancellation has involved a medical emergency.

In November 2023, Michaels’ Fall Parti Gras Holiday Show at Detroit’s Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel was postponed from Nov. 22, 2023, to fall 2024.

His official website cited a decision made out of respect for fans and casino employees and offered refunds to ticket holders.

In January 2024, Michaels announced that his Jan. 26 show would not take place as scheduled.

The reason given at the time was simply “unforeseen circumstances,” with the concert expected to be rescheduled for 2025.

Michaels was also forced to adjust his 2025 schedule.

In March, his Big Birthday Bash in Charles Town, West Virginia, was moved from March 15 to April 11 because of a scheduling conflict. Tickets for the original date were honored at the new show.

Later that year, he also told fans that managing his diabetes had affected his ability to maintain an especially demanding touring schedule. After performing in Pennsylvania with his blood sugar at 39, Michaels acknowledged that some upcoming dates might need to be rearranged.

Despite his private personal life, Bob Dylan has never made his admiration for other artists a secret. Dylan has always been an artist who wears his influences proudly for all to see, and has never backed down from giving other musicians a shoutout. One of these occasions of praise happened to come about during a 2017 interview on Dylan’s website where he gave a shoutout to one of music’s most tragic stars: Amy Winehouse.

“I liked Amy Winehouse’s last record,” Dylan said, and when questioned further he stated that “she was the last real individualist around.” This is high praise that is also pretty understandable from Dylan’s point of view. Winehouse is absolutely the sort of artist he would gravitate towards, as they both pull from similar influences of American jazz and blues music, as well as the classic pop hits of the 1960s.

Winehouse is equally remembered as one of music’s most gifted singers, as well as one of music’s most tragic stories. Winehouse suffered from a tumultuous alcohol addiction that would eventually take her from this world at the age of 27. She is survived by one of the most singular singer/songwriter records of the 2000s however, that being the record Dylan referenced, “Back to Black.”

I think it’s a real testament to Winehouse’s talent that this anachronistic, somewhat antiquated record went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time when it released. It’s an incredibly unique album that blends all sorts of nostalgic songs into this incredibly dark atmosphere that is heightened by Winehouse’s incredible deep voice. It’s an incredibly authentic album that is completely unafraid to be itself.

Winehouse is greatly missed, and Dylan’s appreciation of this album is shared by so many others. It’s a painful and powerful hit that will be appreciated for many years to come.

Saturday Night Live has a long history of impressive talents trying out for the show, including such world-renowned comedians as Jim Carrey, Kevin Hart, Donald Glover and Lisa Kudrow, among countless others.

While rejection from the show is never easy, one notable SNL hopeful revealed the arduous process behind his rejection from the series, as discussed in length on a 2025 episode of Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast.

Though today known for his work as a successful stand-up comic and acclaimed comedic actor, Andrew Santino revealed that he initially tried to make a name for himself in the industry by auditioning for SNL prior to the 2013/2014 season.

At the time, Santino was testing opposite Pete Davidson, with the comedian believing he left a favorable impression on SNL producer Lorne Michaels, as evidenced by the fact that he received a call from Michaels inviting him back to New York for a one-on-one meeting. 

“I flew to New York, and I was like, is this it?” Santino recalled thinking. “Am I going to move to New York? Like, this is wild.”

Arriving at 30 Rock, Santino and Michaels sat in the latter’s office, where “we talked for an hour about Chicago. He loved talking about Chicago because he knew I was from Chicago. He ate popcorn.”

Following this, Michaels then brought Santino out to meet a number of people involved with the show. “And so I walked around and met all the writers,” Santino continued.

While all of this seemed like a promising set-up for an eventual job offer, Santino’s hopes were promptly crushed when Michaels delivered his rejection.

“I think you’re going to have a great career,” Santino remembered Michaels telling him. “I don’t think you’re the puzzle piece I’m looking for.”

Reacting to the story, Spade expressed disbelief that Michaels would go through all of that trouble only to reject Santino’s audition. “It’s like meeting the family of the girl who breaks up with you,” the former SNL player observed.

Fortunately, Santino explained that he doesn’t have any ill feelings about the rejection, explaining that he wasn’t surprised that Michaels ultimately settled on Davidson.

“Yeah, [Davidson[ is like a decade younger than us,” Santino said. “He was a kid. So I was like, ‘Yeah, they’re gonna pick this malleable, cute kid whose dad died in 9/11 versus a vulnerable redheaded crackpot.’”

Janie Bradford helped build Motown from the ground up.

One of the songs she co-wrote eventually found its way into the hands of The Beatles.

Bradford, an early Motown songwriter who co-wrote “Money (That’s What I Want)” with label founder Berry Gordy, died Aug. 21 at a Los Angeles hospital following an extended illness. She was 87.

Bradford joined Motown in 1958 as a receptionist after being introduced to Gordy through singer Jackie Wilson. Her role soon expanded beyond answering phones, and she became involved in the creative work that helped establish the fledgling label.

In 1959, Bradford and Gordy co-wrote “Money (That’s What I Want),” which was recorded by Barrett Strong. The song became Motown’s first major hit and helped put the young label on the musical map.

Four years later, The Beatles recorded their own version.

“Money” appeared as the closing track on the group’s 1963 album With the Beatles, giving the song a new life during the band’s rise to international fame. The group reportedly discovered Strong’s recording through a record shop connected to manager Brian Epstein.

The Beatles weren’t the only major group to record the song.

The Rolling Stones also put their spin on it, further demonstrating the influence Motown and American rhythm and blues had on the British rock explosion of the 1960s.

Bradford’s songwriting legacy extended beyond “Money.”

She co-wrote “Too Busy Thinking About My Baby,” first recorded by The Temptations and later made famous by Marvin Gaye, and wrote songs for artists including Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Mary Wells and The Marvelettes.

Gordy remembered Bradford as one of the “original Motown family” and an unsung figure who helped make the company what it became.

Long before Ted Danson became one of television’s most beloved stars, all it took was one laugh to change the course of his life.

According to an exclusive interview with People, the Cheers icon recently reflected on the television moment that first made him dream of becoming an actor while attending the Television Academy’s 2026 Hall of Fame ceremony. 

It all started with an abandoned television.

Recalling his college days at Stanford University during his Hall of Fame acceptance speech, Danson said he found an old television someone had left outside his dorm.

“Someone didn’t want it, but it still worked,” he recalled. “So I took it up to my room. It was my first TV.”

When he plugged it in, he happened to catch one of the most iconic openings in television history.

“I turned it on, literally just in time to see Dick Van Dyke trip over the ottoman.”

Danson wasn’t describing a random episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show. He had tuned in just as the sitcom’s famous opening credits played, showing Van Dyke’s character, Rob Petrie, walking into his living room and stumbling over the ottoman before greeting viewers.
The brief bit of physical comedy became one of television’s most recognizable opening sequences — and for Danson, it became life-changing. 

“It was magic,” Danson said. “I was hooked.”

Not long afterward, he auditioned for a campus production of Bertolt Brecht’s Man Is Man, landing what he jokingly described as “the smallest part you could get and still be in the play.”

“But the light bulb had turned on,” he said. “I was an actor, and it made all of my life make sense all of a sudden.”

More than five decades later, Danson has built one of television’s most celebrated careers, starring in Cheers, Becker, CSI, The Good Place and, most recently, Netflix’s A Man on the Inside, which has already been renewed for a third season. 

And remarkably, the actor who first inspired him could still become part of that journey.

During the same conversation with People, Danson was asked whether his longtime friend Van Dyke, who has publicly said he’d love to appear on A Man on the Inside, might eventually make a cameo.

Danson’s answer was immediate.

“If I were in charge, it would happen immediately.”

While acknowledging the decision ultimately belongs to creator Michael Schur and the show’s writers, Danson didn’t hide his admiration.

“Oh, I love that man,” he said, adding that he and his wife, Mary Steenburgen, recently visited Van Dyke at his home to record a podcast together. “It was one of the best days of our lives. It was so cool.” 

It’s a fitting full-circle moment.

While there are many romance novels out there that touch our hearts, some become standout classics that everyone has to read. Nicholas Sparks’ debut novel, The Notebook, is one of those.

It’s hard to believe that the book is turning 30 this year. It was published on Oct. 1, 1996, and in 2004, the movie starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling was released. In fact, it was this movie that put the two of them on the map to stardom, and it brought one of the biggest romance tropes TV shows and movies would recreate: the kiss in the rain.

The Notebook took six months to write, and it was based on a real love story. Sparks took inspiration from the marriage of his now ex-wife’s grandparents, one that lasted more than 60 years. It’s no wonder that it became an instant commercial success, and within the first week of its release, it hit The New York Times bestseller list.

While this would become Sparks’ first published novel, he wrote two novels in the 1980s that would go unpublished: The Passing in 1985 and The Royal Murders in 1989. And despite The Notebook becoming one of the biggest hits of its generation, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion that it would even be published.

The Notebook told the story of Noah and Allie’s relationship. It starts in the present day, with a man sharing the story with the woman we would late realize is his wife with Alzheimer’s Disease, and it would soon become clear that this was their story of how they met, fell in love, broke up, and found their way back to each other. Told through the eyes of the past and the present day, it brought a heartfelt tale of real love and not just romance.

This originally hit the “slush pile” at Theresa Park’s agency. She read the story and immediately became Sparks’ literary agent. The rest feels like history, going to show what it means to have the right person in your corner.

With the success of the novel, it was only a matter of time before it was transformed into a movie. In today’s world, it may have happened sooner, but it took eight years for the movie to be released, bringing the story of Noah and Allie to life on the screen. With a modest budget of $29 million, it wasn’t clear if this would succeed, but it became a worldwide sleeper hit, grossing $115 million, and it has gone on to cement itself as a “must-watch” movie for romance fans.

Since then, the story has been adapted into a Broadway musical, which debuted in 2024. There was an attempt to get a TV adaptation off the ground, and it was set to air on The CW network. In the end, the project was quietly abandoned due to creative differences.

Since his success with his debut, Sparks has gone on to publish 25 novels and two works of nonfiction, with 11 of his works being adapted into major motion pictures. His most recent novel was Remain, which he co-wrote with M. Night Shyamalan, who Sparks initially wanted to direct The Notebook. Remain has already been adapted into a movie, set for release on Feb. 5, 2027.

Long before it became a Yacht Rock staple, “Undercover Angel” began in the quiet hours of a Los Angeles apartment.

Fresh off writing hits for other artists, including “Angie Baby” for Helen Reddy and “Rock and Roll Heaven” for the Righteous Brothers, songwriter Alan O’Day sat down to construct what he dubbed a “nocturnal novelette,” a fictional, late-night tale about a lonely man visited by a dream woman. O’Day never expected this imaginative tune to take over pop radio, but its breezy groove struck an instant chord with listeners in the summer of 1977.

In an interview with Classic Bands, O’Day discussed the song’s inspiration. He explained that the song’s title had a little-known genesis.

“Looking back on it, I think the word angel was invoked because of Charlie’s Angels, the TV show, but I didn’t really know that then. I just put the two words together, and I loved what it said, and I’ve got to write a song with the title, ‘Undercover Angel,'” he explained.

O’Day added, “I started writing the story before I knew the title. “Crying on my pillow, lonely in my bed, then I heard a voice beside me, and she softly said, wonder is your night light…” I get this idea, a little bit like “Angie Baby”, that it was an out-of-body experience or something spiritual or mystical as well as sexual, but I didn’t know what the main point of the song was.”

He concluded that writing “Undercover Angel” probably took “a couple of weeks.”

Songfacts quoted the songwriter calling the tune a “nocturnal novelette.” The website added, “Released in February 1977, it went to No. 1 in America in July. Some radio stations refused to play it because of its sexual nature, but that helped create a buzz and send it up the charts.”

In an interview with the Soft Rock Cafe, O’Day shared, “You know, ‘Undercover Angel’ is kind of a corny song, and it’s kind of a sexy song, and it’s kind of an infantile song, and it sold two million copies.”

He added, “I think it’s a good song, and I am proud of its success. It was banned in Peoria, Illinois, as being too sexual, and I’ve always worn that as a badge of pride [laughs]. I had no illusions that I was creating great art; I’ve just always loved the idea of the little three-minute movie.”

The song’s cheerful, high-energy melody helped it cross over into modern pop culture decades later, landing spots on high-profile film soundtracks including 2000’s Charlie’s Angels and the 2011 thriller Super 8.

Alan O’Day died at 72 in May 2013.

Former child star Raquel Lee Bolleau (née Raquel Lee) has come forward with allegations of having been repeatedly sexually assaulted by a former Disney employee while filming The Poof Point in 2001.

According to People, the actor, 39, filed a civil negligence lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company on Friday, Aug. 21. Lee claims in the lawsuit that an unnamed middle-aged man had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions while filming the Disney movie when she was 14.

She also added that the former Disney employee had supplied her with alcohol and assaulted her in the hotel the cast and crew were staying at in Salt Lake City. Her claim also details an assault having taken place on a flight back to California.

According to the lawsuit, Lee also alleges that Disney had failed to protect the actor at the time, despite signs of something being wrong. It details that personnel had instructed the actor to “bond” with the unnamed employee, and production had separated her from her guardian. As a result, the actor was not properly supervised when the alleged assaults occurred.

Further details reveal that the employee would make inappropriate comments to Lee on set, like “last night was so good” and claims that Disney failed to intervene. Lee recounts how the alleged abuse drastically changed her behavior on set, and how she looked sick and intoxicated. She commented on how there was a “stark difference from the dedicated, studious, and diligent child actress who had joined the movie.”

Her lawsuit also alleges that Disney failed to protect her and blamed her for her deteriorating performance. The company reportedly called her “out of control,” which resulted in her upcoming role being cancelled instead of investigating the matter.

“Over the last decade, countless child actors have come forward to bravely share their experiences of abuse by adults in entertainment. As former government prosecutors, our message to the entertainment industry is simple: This conduct is inexcusable, and those involved — directly or indirectly — must be held accountable,” said Lee’s attorneys, Douglas Wigdor and Jane Kim.

The exact amount Lee is unknown, but the lawsuit is seeking damages for economic loss and emotional distress. It’s also seeking punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and other costs.

The 2001 film during which the alleged assaults occurred was a science fiction comedy movie based on a children’s novel of the same name. It starred Mark Curry, Dawnn Lewis, Tahj Mowry, and Lee, as the two parents enlist the help of their children as their experiment goes terribly wrong.

Besides The Poof Point, Lee was known for having appeared on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show during its first season. Fans will also recognize her voice as Nubia Gross in The Proud Family from 2001 to 2005. She reprised her role in 2022 for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Previously, The New York Times made quite a few headlines when their list of the best thrillers of the 21st century.

Drawing on the opinions of many of the publication’s most talented critics, the list was met with an unsurprisingly polarized response from readers, many of whom were quick to add their own titles to the list of candidates worth considering.

To counterbalance the list from their critics, The New York Times has just unveiled a brand-new readers’ choice list for the best thrillers of the 21st century, utilizing readers’ votes and collective feedback.

At the very top of the list, readers selected Stieg Larsson’s 2005 thriller, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, translated from original Swedish by Reg Keeland.

The first official novel in Larsson’s posthumous Millennium series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follows a struggling magazine writer and a genius computer hacker who work together to solve the decades-old mystery of a missing young woman.

Providing the basis for a 2009 film and a subsequent 2011 Hollywood adaptation starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was incredibly well-received at the time of its release, kicking the Millennium series off in grand fashion.

“Larsson’s Millennium juggernaut began here, with one of the more indelible literary creations of the 21st century: a goth-punk Swedish computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander whose technical brilliance is matched only by her antisocial tendencies,” The New York Times wrote in their description of the book.

“She’s an unlikely match for the middle-aged journalist Mikael Blomkvist, but when the pair are thrown together to research the long-ago disappearance of a wealthy industrialist’s great-niece, the cold case becomes a hot pursuit of truth and justice in a vast, spidery conspiracy,” the outlet continued.
