1977 Power Pop Classic Was a Total Flop—Then It Became a Top 10 Hit

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 8:00pm

In some cases, live performances of songs never quite live up to the original, studio-recorded release. But in others, the true power of a song is only fully realized when it's being played live onstage...in front of thousands of screaming fans.

Perhaps one of the most famous examples of this particular phenomenon (if not the most famous) is Cheap Trick's signature song, the classic "I Want You to Want Me." Originally released as the first single from Cheap Trick's second album, In Color (1977), the studio version didn't even make the charts.

But when a second take on the song from the band's smash live album Cheap Trick at Budokan was released in 1979, it absolutely exploded, peaking at #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (and hitting #1 in Japan, where it was recorded). What changed? Well, anybody who's listened to both renditions can tell you immediately: The live version rocks, the studio recording...not so much.

As Cheap Trick bassist Tom Petersson told Classic Rock years later, guitarist Rick Nielsen drew from pop and disco hits when he was writing "I Want You to Want Me."

“My recollection is that he just did that song as a bit of a joke, because at the time when we had done that song there was a lot of pop music on the radio — ABBA, and all sorts of things, disco,” Petersson explained.

"He thought: ‘I’m just going to do an over-the-top pop song. I just want to do one that’s so silly — total pop — and then we’ll do a heavy version of it,'" he continued. "He didn’t know what was going to happen with it. The idea was to have it like a heavy metal pop song. Cheap Trick doing ABBA — except a very heavy version.”

Cheap Trick wasn't happy with the original production on 'I Want You to Want Me'

Unfortunately, the studio version of "I Want You to Want Me" "was not produced in the way we would have done it.” Petersson said. “And we’ve never done it since like that anyway — with a little ‘Shakey’s Pizza Parlour piano’ and twinky little sounds. It was like, ‘Ugh!’.”

While the crowd can clearly be heard going wild in the live version of "I Want You to Want Me," Petersson says the song wasn't more popular than any of the others they played during that legendary concert at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.

“That in particular was no more of a hit than anything else," he recalled. "We had, for some reason, had several hit singles over there, so they were just going bonkers no matter what we did. It wasn’t that they were sitting there politely applauding, and then all of a sudden 'I Want You To Want Me' came on and they went wild, they were going wild no matter what.”

So it was a "surprise" for Cheap Trick when the song became their biggest hit up to that point, but a welcome one. And decades later, they still aren't tired of playing it live, according to Nielsen.

“We play to a different audience every night, so it’s not like you’re playing it to somebody who’s heard it every night like we have," he said. "It makes people clap, smile and have fun. Gee, if we were certain bands we wouldn’t do it. But we’re Cheap Trick — it’s good to get applause.”

Barbie Pascual Ignites Jealousy and Crew Chaos Moments After Joining 'Below Deck Down Under'

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:59pm

Below Deckstew Barbie Pascual is back — and despite insisting she wasn’t there to stir the Below Deck Down Under pot, she wasted no time whipping up chaos within hours of stepping aboard.

Though relieved to have a quick replacement for deck/stew Mike Durrant, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher immediately knew she needed to proceed with caution after learning Barbie was friends with galley hand Elena “Ellie” Dubaich. Ellie had already been pushing Daisy’s buttons, with Daisy admitting Ellie’s insubordination could ultimately get her fired.

Barbie previously appeared on Below Deck Season 11, so Daisy reached out to close friend Chief Stew Fraser Olender for insight. According to Daisy, Fraser confirmed her biggest fears. “Not my favorite employee,” he texted back. “She’s stubborn. Good worker though.”

And Fraser’s assessment quickly proved accurate. After hearing Ellie was clashing with the crew, Barbie immediately slipped into ride-or-die mode — starting with second stew Jenna Woudberg. Barbie quickly became convinced Jenna disliked her from the second she arrived on board the boat.

“Massive resting bitch face,” Barbie quipped in a confessional. “Girl hates me.”

When Jenna and Barbie finally had a moment alone together, Jenna immediately staked her claim on some of the men aboard the boat — namely Chef Ben Robinson and deckhand Eddy Hounsell.

View this post on Instagram

That instantly made Jenna Barbie’s first target.

While getting ready for a crew night out, Barbie told Ellie that Jenna “gave me a weird look when I first got on here,” adding that Jenna also made a face when she hugged Ellie. As Ellie and Barbie gossiped about the crew, Barbie admitted she liked the way Eddy “says my name, he has a very nice accent.”

In a confessional, Barbie said, “Jenna is not a humble person. And its not actually all about you. I will respect her as my superior, but maybe I'll just flirt with Eddy and piss her off.”

She later told Ellie, “I'm going to hook up with everyone!”

That likely won’t end well for Jenna, who admitted in a confessional that she’s “an extremely jealous person” who has “problems.”

After initially giving Eddy the cold shoulder in favor of Ben, Jenna circled back to flirting with Eddy while Barbie ended up in the galley drinking and flirting with Ben. Flirting with both crew members quickly came back to haunt Jenna after Ben and Eddy compared notes, with Ben feeling like he’d been “played.”

At dinner, Barbie cozied up next to Eddy while Jenna struggled to hide the annoyed look on her face.

“Is it just me or is there a lot of tension at this table?” Barbie asked Ben as she sat between him and Eddy.

“Jenna is quite obviously threatened by Barbie,” Daisy observed in a confessional. “Feel it but don't let everyone know you feel it.”

Eddy, meanwhile, said in a confessional that he could practically see the “steam coming out of Jenna's ears,” adding, “I don't really care.”

Ben was also fed up with Jenna’s behavior.

“I like Jenna but what kind of person are you?” he asked, concluding that she needs “attention from at least two guys at the same time.”

He later pulled Jenna aside and suggested they “cool” their relationship because “it's too much drama.” Ben then revealed that Eddy had shared Jenna’s text messages with him. Although Jenna attempted to explain herself, Ben first tried to friend-zone her, and then ultimately walked away from the conversation.

Meanwhile, Barbie continued bonding with Eddy, telling him he could “do a thousand times better” than Jenna.

Below Deck Down Under is on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.

These work well for days when flip-flops are too casual but dressier sandals aren’t quite the vibe either. The double straps give them a more put-together look, while the adjustable back strap helps keep them from sliding around on errand runs, travel days, or warm-weather plans that involve more walking.

One reviewer described them as “cute and comfy,” noting that the sandals “go with everything” and are “well made” and “very comfortable." They added, "The band across the toes actually stretches, so no pinching!” Other shoppers also rated the sandals five out of five stars.

You could wear them with a tank and shorts during the day, then keep them on with a breezy dress or button-down for dinner. And if your summer closet has a lot of navy, white, beige, chambray, or lighter colors, these should be a breeze to wear often.

1956 Ballad That Won the Oscar for 'Best Original Song' 70 Years Ago Was Recorded in One Take

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:34pm

Even though it's been 70 years since it first came out, most people are familiar with Doris Day's signature song, "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)." But music lovers who don't know the tune's history might be surprised to learn that the breezy, cheerful track was originally on the soundtrack for a suspenseful thriller...and it even won an Academy Award.

Penned by successful songwriting partners Ray Evans and Jay Livingston, Day sang "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" in Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 remake of his 1934 film The Man Who Knew Too Much. The song serves a crucial purpose in the movie: Day plays a retired singer who gets mixed up in an assassination plot along with her husband (James Stewart) and little boy; at one point, Day uses the song to rescue her son from an attempted kidnapping.

As Livingston explained years later, Hitchcock gave him a set of very specific parameters to work with.

"We got a call from Alfred Hitchcock," Livingston told Paul Zollo in an interview featured in the book Songwriters on Songwriting.

"And he told us that he had Doris Day in his picture, whom he didn't want," Livingston continued. "But MCA, the agency, was so powerful that they said if he wanted Jimmy Stewart he would also have to take Doris Day and Livingston and Evans. It was the only time an agent got us a job that I can remember. Hitchcock said that since Doris Day was a singer, they needed a song for her. He said, 'I can tell you what it should be about. She sings it to a boy. It should have a foreign title because Jimmy Stewart is a roving ambassador and he goes all over the world.'"

"Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" was a major success both commercially and critically. Not only did it win the Oscar for Best Original Song, but it also peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

Doris Day didn't originally want to record 'Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)'

Even though it would go on to become her signature song, Day didn't even want to record "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" in the first place, according to Livingston, because she thought it sounded too much like a children's tune.

"She didn't want to record it but the studio pressured her," Livingston said. "She did it in one take and said, 'That's the last you're going to hear of this song.'"

Day couldn't have been more wrong about that one. Not only did she sing the song again in the movie Please Don't Eat the Daisies, but she even used it as a theme song for her sitcomThe Doris Day Show.

'Sex and the City': An Anthony 'Politically Incorrect' Line Wasn't Planned

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:22pm

Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone) often surprised Sex and the City fans with his blunt lines. The character didn't fear hurting any of his friends' feelings. Cantone, 66, revealed one of his lines in the first movie wasn't planned, but was given to him because no one else could say it.

Anthony's Line About Samantha's Gut in 'Sex and the City' Wasn't Scripted

Cantone appeared on Still Here Hollywood With Steve Kmetko to talk about his career. He revealed the one Anthony line that was unexpected.

"When Samantha goes back and she's gained weight, she comes through the door and I'm like, 'What's with the gut? Forget about the puppy, what's with the gut?'" Cantone said.

Samantha (Kim Cattrall) gained weight after her breakup with Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis). Her friends were shocked when they saw her for the first time in a crop top.

"[Michael Patrick King] gave me that line on the spot because he's like, 'I'm the only one that can get away with it,'" the actor continued. "And even when And Just Like That... came along I was like, 'Give me everything that's politically incorrect.'"

The writers tried to balance out the unfiltered character's lines to avoid him getting "canceled." Cantone was also surprised that Anthony married Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) in the second movie.

Anthony had to move on in And Just Like That... and Cantone assumed he would be hooking up with his Hot Feelas employees. "You don't sh-t where you eat, you've evolved," King told Cantone.

The character got a new boyfriend, Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi). Cantone said he became good friends with Pigazzi while working together. Sadly, the spinoff ended after three seasons.

Psychologists Say if You Were Told To 'Toughen Up' as a Kid, You Likely Have These 7 Traits

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:21pm

The words used towards kids can have a lasting impact as they grow up, especially the negative words. This is why psychologists warn against telling your child to "toughen up," because it can lead to an array of problematic traits in adulthood that often hinder individuals in various ways. Parade consulted two psychologists on the topic: licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Patricia Dixon and licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Natalie Feinblatt.

Dr. Dixon, who operates a Florida-based therapy and counseling practice, says that parents need to remember that "how you react when children share their feelings with you will impact how they manage their emotions as adults." If they get shut down and are told to be tough, that can cause a lot of problems down the line.

Dr. Feinblatt specializes in helping those from high-control or abusive family systems. She notes that the kids who were told to "toughen up" can turn into adults who are "high-functioning on the outside, [but] dysregulated underneath." She adds that "even if they appear successful or 'put together'... [they can] internally feel overwhelmed, anxious or disconnected."

That's just the tip of the iceberg, though. There are seven common traits seen in adults who were told to be tough as children, according to Dr. Dixon and Dr. Feinblatt. Keep reading to learn more.

Related: People Who Break ‘Toxic Family Cycles’ Often Develop These 7 Rare Traits, a Psychologist Says

Is It OK To Tell Kids To Toughen Up?

Dr. Dixon says, "This phrase is training your child that their feelings aren’t valid or important." She adds that it "makes kids less likely to talk about their emotions."

And Dr. Feinblatt notes that telling your child to be tough may even have the opposite effect.

"Instead of building resilience, it often creates confusion and shame around having feelings at all," she says, adding that it "teaches [kids] to disconnect from their internal experience rather than learn how to regulate it."

Do you need to ‘toughen up’ a sensitive kid?

"Kids don't need to be less sensitive; they need support in understanding and moving through what they feel," Dr. Feinblatt says. "That’s what actually builds emotional strength over time."

She says that, in particular, boys "are often socialized to suppress vulnerability early on," adding, "The message becomes [that] certain emotions are unacceptable. Over time, that can lead to a very limited and rigid emotional range."

Why Is It Detrimental To Tell a Boy To ‘Toughen Up’?

CoolFinger/Getty Images

Dr. Dixon says she sees this phrase most often used with boys.

"I’ve seen grown adults kneel down to a crying three-year-old boy and tell him, 'Stop crying; be a man.' He’s trying to be a toddler," she tells Parade.

This communication in childhood can have a lasting impact.

"Messages like that breed toxic masculinity later on in life by teaching boys to bottle up emotions instead of discussing them," she says. She adds, "This, long term, affects them into adulthood on how they deal with relationships and emotions. You see lower quality emotional communication within partners and friendships."

Related: People Who Didn’t Receive Positive Reinforcement as Children Often Develop These 14 Traits as Adults, Psychologists Say

7 Common Traits of People Who Were Told To ‘Toughen Up’ as Kids, Psychologists Share1. Anger

"Many men I work with weren’t taught how to process emotions," Dr. Feinblatt says. She adds that they often end up "relying on anger as one of the only 'acceptable' feelings."

2. Hyper-independence

Dr. Dixon says this childhood experience can lead to adults who "learn to do everything themselves and never ask for help."

"[This] can create people who don't lean on others and tend to shoulder more responsibility," she adds.

3. Avoidance

"If something upset them as a kid, they were told to grin and bear it... they learn to diminish or suppress conversation around those subjects," explains Dr. Dixon. She adds that avoiding "taboo" or "triggering subjects" is common for them.

4. Self-invalidation

Dr. Feinblatt says it's not unusual for these adults to "automatically dismiss their own feelings... because they were taught their emotional experience wasn’t valid" when they were growing up. Phrases like "I’m overreacting" or "It’s not a big deal" are common indicators of this.

5. People-pleasing

"People-pleasing behaviors tend to be more heightened [for these adults]," shares Dr. Dixon. She says they'll often try to "keep others happy and avoid getting yelled at or ignored, like they may have as children."

6. Misunderstanding their own needs

"It’s not just hard to express needs; they often don’t know what they need, because they learned to tune out their inner signals," says Dr. Feinblatt.

7. Being closed off

Ultimately, being told to be tough can lead to closing off as an adult.

"If expressing feelings meant you were weak, they grow accustomed to shutting down when they encounter a situation that warrants emotions," says Dr. Dixon.

Dr. Feinblatt shares that this can manifest as shame, because "they feel like there’s something wrong with them for having those emotions in the first place."

What Are Better, Healthier Alternative Phrases To Use?

Instead of telling a child to be tough, Dr. Dixon says it's important to help kids "identify what they’re feeling" without dismissing their emotions. She suggests phrases like, "That sounds really upsetting to you," "Tell me what you’re feeling right now," "What’s causing you to feel that way?" or "How can I help you when you’re feeling this way?”

She says that this language "acknowledges how they feel and allows them to share more. You’re teaching them to pinpoint their emotions instead of suppressing them."

Dr. Feinblatt shares that you also want kids to know that they can work through their emotions. She suggests saying, "I can see this is really hard for you, let’s figure out what you need to get through it."

"This keeps the focus on support and problem-solving, rather than shutting the child down," she adds. "It teaches kids that emotions are manageable, not something to be feared or avoided."

1980 Rock Classic Became a No. 1 Hit After The Singer's Death

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:10pm

The death of the Beatles icon, John Lennon, has gone down as one of the most heartbreaking moments in music history. Shortly before he died in New York City in 1980, Lennon released a pop-rock track that would soar on the charts a few months later.

By 1975, Lennon had left the music industry and was living in the city with his wife, Yoko Ono, and his son. "(Just Like) Starting Over" became the first new recording by Lennon since he stepped away and felt like the track was appropriate as his first single following his five-year absence. The track was part of his Double Fantasy album, with Ono's "Kiss Kiss Kiss" serving as the track's B-side.

According to American Songwriter, the track was written while Lennon was in Bermuda and was originally titled "Starting Over." It was changed after Lennon realized its similarity to Dolly Parton's song "Starting Over Again." The track was later recorded at The Hit Factory in New York City in August 1980, with him referring to it as his Elvis/Orbison track.

"All through the taping of ‘Starting Over,’ I was calling what I was doing ‘Elvis Orbison," said Lennon. "It’s like Dylan doing Nashville Skyline,’ except I don’t have any Nashville, being from Liverpool. So I go back to the records I know—Elvis and Roy Orbison and Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis."

Related: 1978 Hit Disco Track Ranked Among ‘Greatest Dance Songs of All Time’ Won an Oscar 47 Years Ago

The track's lyrics represented Lennon's feeling of returning to the industry, but would have a deeper impact later on. "(Just Like) Starting Over" was released on October 23, 1980, just two months before Lennon was murdered on Dec. 8. The track would land at No.3 on the US charts and later reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 1 in December following the singer's death.

"(Just Like) Starting Over" became Lennon's biggest solo hit in the US. The track has a moderate response in the UK, with it having fallen to No. 21 on the charts. Following Lennon's death, it skyrocketed to No. 1 for two weeks before it was replaced by his track "Imagine."

Lennon's Double Fantasy album would become his last released project in his lifetime. Sad to say that the album received mixed reviews from critics, but it only gained worldwide commercial success following his death. It went on to win the 1981 Grammy Award for Album of the Year

1994 Hit Television Drama Show, Once Ranked No. 1 Hit in United States, Is Suddenly Climbing the Charts 32 Years Later

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 7:08pm

The 1994 medical drama ER is once again in the spotlight after being ranked by TV Guide among the best TV shows available on Hulu.

The renewed attention comes as viewers who enjoyed modern medical dramas are turning back to ER, a series often credited with shaping the genre. The show originally premiered on Sept. 19, 1994, and quickly became one of the most-watched programs in the United States. At its peak, it reached No. 1 in national rankings and drew tens of millions of viewers per episode.

Created by Michael Crichton, ER followed the fast-paced lives of doctors and nurses working inside the emergency room of the fictional County General Hospital in Chicago. The series ran for 15 seasons and produced a total of 331 episodes before ending in 2009.

From the very beginning, the show stood out for its realistic style and fast storytelling. The pilot episode, titled “24 Hours,” introduced audiences to key characters like Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), Dr. Doug Ross (George Clooney), Dr. Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield), Dr. Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle), medical student John Carter (Noah Wyle) and head nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies).

Unlike many modern shows, the first episode focused on a single 24-hour shift in the ER. Patients came in quickly, cases moved fast and doctors had very little time to rest. That format helped shape the show’s identity and made it stand apart from other medical dramas.

Over the years, ER became known for its strong storytelling and emotional intensity. It also explored real-world issues such as HIV/AIDS, poverty, racism, organ transplants and mental health. At its peak, it was watched by more than 30 million viewers per episode and frequently ranked among the top shows in the United States.

According to TV Guide, ER stands out as a top-tier medical series for streaming audiences. The publication noted that viewers who enjoyed The Pitt and want more intense emergency room stories can find over 300 episodes of ER to watch.

Interest also increased after discussions about Noah Wyle’s early career, since he began his acting journey on ER before starring in newer projects. Fans have also pointed out that The Pitt was originally planned as an ER revival concept before becoming its own series.

During its original run, ER became one of the most awarded television dramas in history, earning over 120 industry awards and multiple Emmy wins. It also helped launch the careers of several major actors, including George Clooney, who became a global star after appearing in the series.

Even after 32 years, ER is proving that a well-written story about human lives in crisis can still connect with audiences, no matter when it is watched.

That favorite tee you’ve been defending in your head? It’s not “vintage.” It’s just tired. You know the one — the shirt that used to sit perfectly, but is now stretched thin beyond belief, the crewneck with a mystery stain, or the one with holes you’ve lovingly rebranded as “breathable.” You need a replacement, and we know just the deal to get it done.

Walmart currently has the Time and Tru Slub V-Neck Tee on sale for just $4. Originally $8, this staple tee is now even more affordable at up to 50% off select colors. It works as an easy, everyday essential that pairs effortlessly with just about everything already in your closet, whether layered under a jacket, cardigan, sweater, or blazer, or styled on its own.

This relaxed-fit T-shirt leans into a lived-in look, with subtle construction details that give it more dimension than a basic tee. Made from a soft blend of 57% cotton, 39% modal, and 4% spandex, the fabric has a lightweight drape with just enough stretch to move comfortably without losing its shape.

The slub texture of this tee creates faint natural variations throughout the material, giving the surface a slightly heathered, almost sun-washed appearance that adds depth and softness. The V-neck is cleanly finished with narrow ribbed trim that blends seamlessly into the body of the shirt, while the stitching along the sleeves and hem stays understated and tonal for a polished, minimal look.

Because of its easy drape and lightly textured finish, the tee is versatile and can shift between casual and more styled looks depending on what it’s paired with. It naturally complements denim, whether that’s relaxed boyfriend jeans, crisp white capris, or cutoff shorts, but also works tucked into linen trousers or flowy midi skirts for a more elevated warm-weather outfit. The lower neckline also makes it ideal for showcasing delicate jewelry like layered chains or pendant necklaces.

It’s available in 26 colors, ranging from easy neutrals and soft pastels to brighter shades and deeper jewel tones, making it simple to build out a rotation or stock up on a few favorites. Sizes run from extra small through XXX-large with a built-in generous fit designed for easy, relaxed wear. Prices vary depending on the color and size you choose, so it’s worth double-checking the final cost before adding it to your cart, but the most you'll pay is just $8.

Shoppers praised this “super lightweight” and “very soft” V-neck in the reviews section, calling it the “perfect summer staple.” One shopper wrote, “The material is substantial, not see-through, and I love the slub texture,” adding that they “came back to purchase more colors.”

This Daytime Legend's 1983 Reunion Became One of Daytime’s Most 'Devastating' Twists 43 Years Ago Today

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:30pm

Coming into 1983, General Hospital's leading man, Luke Spencer, played by Daytime Emmy-winner Anthony Geary, had spent the year being presumed dead following an avalanche, but on this day in 1983, everything changed as he returned to town, only to have his world turned upside down.

Luke had spent 1982 figuring out how to move on after the presumed death of his wife, Laura Spencer (Genie Francis). While on a camping trip of self-exploration, Luke met Holly Sutton (Emma Sams), skinny dipping in a lake.

Luke immediately became smitten with her, and the two eventually hooked up, but unbeknownst to him, Holly was actually a professional schemer and was working to grift the residents of Port Charles out of their money with the promise of making it ‘big’ with an oil rig.

Eventually, Holly admitted the truth; however, she was kidnapped, forcing Luke and his best friend, WSB Agent Robert Scorpio, to help save her. The two were successful and helped get the residents of Port Charles their money back.

However, the damage to their relationship had been done; thus, after an argument, Luke packed up his bags and went up to the mountains to reset for a few days. Meanwhile, Holly found out that she was expecting her and Luke’s child and was facing deportation.

While camping, an avalanche occurred, and Luke was presumed dead. Fearing that Holly and Luke’s child would be forced to leave the country, Robert offered his hand in marriage to honor Luke’s memory. Only shortly after their wedding, Holly suffered a miscarriage and lost her child.

Months passed, and what began as a relationship of convenience evolved into real feelings for each other as Robert and Holly developed.

Viewers watched as the chemistry and feelings between Robert and Holly deepened, while Luke recovered from injuries sustained in the avalanche. Now fully recovered, Luke decided to reunite with his loved ones, specifically Holly.

So, on this day in 1983, Luke made his way back down off the mountain and returned to Port Charles. He met Jimmy Lee-Holt (Steve Bond) at the local diner Ruby’s, where he believed Holly was staying. Jimmy explained that he now lived there. So Luke decided to check in with his pal Robert to find out exactly where "his girl" is.

Meanwhile, Robert had planned a romantic evening for Holly at his apartment. Just as the couple sat down for dinner, Robert got a phone call for a job that he was working on and had to leave for Boston. “There's one thing I'm learning, though, that it's not easy being the wife of a commissioner and ex-agent,” Holy began. “But I wouldn't have anybody else,” she declared while kissing him.

Robert left for Boston, and Holly went upstairs to change as the doorbell rang. Holly asked the maid if she wouldn’t mind grabbing the door, and that was when Luke entered the household. The maid excused herself and explained she would get “Ms. Scorpio” for him.

Moments later, Holly was shocked to see Luke, alive and well, standing in her living room. “You married Robert? No, wait a minute, that's a mistake. You tell me that's a lie. Tell me that's a lie,” he said. But while Holly tried to explain, it was too little too late, and Luke stormed out of the apartment, leaving Holly devastated and alone.

As the story progressed, the love triangle between Luke/Holly/Robert would take center stage throughout the Summer of 1983, with Holly ultimately choosing Robert. This would leave the door open for Luke and for back-from-the-dead Laura to reunite, as the year came to a close.

Over the following years, Luke and Holly’s relationship would remain close, and the two would eventually conceive and have a child, Ethan Lovett (Nathan Dean), but they would never reunite as they once were prior to the avalanche.

Did you enjoy Luke and Holly’s relationship? Or were you more team Robert and Holly? Sound off with your favorite memories in the comments.

Rock Legend’s Son, 53, Channels His Father in Emotional Live Performance: 'What a Voice'

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:28pm

Devon Allman, 53, the son of late rock great Gregg Allman, is every bit his father’s son. Fans were completely awed by the younger Allman’s talent, which is so similar in style and tone to his father’s bluesy Southern rock influence that they were sure they were seeing double.

At a recent live performance, Devon Allman treated music lovers to The Allman Brothers Band’s 1972 hit “Melissa.” On stage, Devon eerily resembles his dad, down to the long blonde hair so strongly associated with Gregg Allman.

Devon Allman!! So authentic, do talented and what a voice! #allmanbrothers #devonallman #sweetmelissa #blues #allmanbrothers

Listening to Devon’s performance with eyes closed easily takes you back to the early ’70s. His vocal tone and soulful guitar phrasing conjure classic rock notes synonymous with The Allman Brothers Band.

Without the risk of appearing like a Gregg Allman tribute act, Devon Allman relies more on his own skills as a musician and vocalist while still giving a nod to his father—arguably one of the greatest voices in classic rock. With a look and sound so similar to his father, it would be hard for Devon to avoid comparisons. Instead, he embraces his father’s style while completely making it his own.

This is talent recognizing talent, and what a loving and emotional tribute it is.

“Looks just like his dad!” gushed one fan. Another added, “Love this song.. long live Gregg Allman’s spirit.”

While being the child of a legend as iconic as Gregg Allman might cause fans to scrutinize even harder, these music fans are completely celebratory of Devon’s take on “Melissa,” as shown by the supportive comments flooding social media.

“Devon is making it on his talent and not the famous name,” wrote one fan, echoing the sentiments of many.

Devon Allman’s Career and Musical Legacy

An American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer known for blending Southern rock, blues, soul, and Americana into a modern sound, Devon Allman continues to embrace his family’s musical legacy while building a successful career through solo projects and collaborations.

Over the years, Devon Allman has released multiple albums and toured extensively, earning praise for his soulful vocals, expressive guitar playing, and roots-driven songwriting. The son of Gregg Allman’s first wife, Shelby Blackburn, Devon Allman didn’t learn about his famous father until later in his childhood.

Despite the early distance, Devon eventually developed a relationship with his father and continues to embrace the musical influences that naturally connect them.

Though Gregg Allman died in 2017 at the age of 69 from complications of liver cancer, his legacy continues to live on through his timeless music and his son’s celebration of his blues-rock style.

1986 Film Written in Just 6 Days Ranked Among Best Rock Movies of All Time

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:21pm

“I want to do this movie about a kid who takes a day off from school and ... that's all I know so far,” John Hughesreportedly told a Paramount executive back in the ’80s. Six days later, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was an official screenplay, the draft written in haste to avoid a looming writers’ strike.

What emerged was not only one of the defining teen classics of the decade, but also a film packed with instantly iconic music moments. So, it’s no wonder Ultimate Classic Rock later named the comedy the best rock movie of 1986.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

John Hughes created three famous scenes out of diverse music in Ferris Bueller's Day Off,” UCR writes. “But the most evocative was when Hughes placed The Dream Academy's instrumental cover of The Smiths’ ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’ as the three principles stared at Georges Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte at the Art Institute of Chicago.”

The other two moments the outlet is referencing are when Cameron, played by Alan Ruck, and Ferris, played byMatthew Broderick, summon Cameron’s father’s fiery-red Ferrari from his vintage car garage to the tune of Yello's "Oh Yeah." And the other one happens later in the film when Cameron, Ferris, and Ferris’ girlfriend, Sloan, played by Mia Sara, hit up a parade in the streets of Chicago with Ferris boarding a float to lip-synch Wayne Newton's “Danke Schoen” and The Beatles’ “Twist and Shout.”

As manic as the writing process was, production hit a similar key. With Rat Packer and frequent Hughes collaborator Emilio Estevez turning down the role of Cameron, the part went to a nearly 30-year-old Ruck. Despite the age gap, Ruck captured Cam's misery brilliantly. Meanwhile, Molly Ringwald wanted to play Sloan, but Hughes told her the part was too small for her. And lastly, several of the film’s actors were falling in love. With each other.

Jennifer Grey stars in the film as Ferris’ perpetually irritated sister, Jeanie. But behind the scenes, sparks were flying between the actress and Broderick, who got engaged shortly before the movie’s release. They ultimately called it off in 1988. Ferris’ on-screen parents, meanwhile, found lasting chemistry of their own. Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward married after filming wrapped and later welcomed two children together before divorcing in 1992. Still, it’s safe to say love was certainly in the air on that set.

Today, Ferris Bueller's Day Off feels so much bigger than a fun teen comedy romp about ditching school. Its eclectic soundtrack transformed scenes into lasting culture moments, while Ferris’ carefree philosophy became part of pop culture itself. Decades later, there is still one line that hits just as hard: If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Right? Here's your sign to give Hughes' best film ever a rewatch.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is streaming on Paramount+.

Even with six tiers, the rack has a slim, space-saving design. It measures just 27.8 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 48.5 inches tall, making it easy to tuck into a closet, hallway, bedroom, dorm room, or apartment entryway without taking over the space. Each shelf can hold up to four pairs of shoes, plus there’s extra room underneath the bottom shelf for additional storage.

The 6.7-inch shelf height gives you plenty of room for everyday footwear, from slippers and sandals to sneakers, heels, and ankle boots. The design is also detachable and stackable, so you can customize it over time. If you need extra space for taller boots, you can simply remove one of the shelves. It also comes with five side hooks, perfect for keeping bags, hats, umbrellas, or keys within easy reach.

Another reason shoppers love it? Assembly is quick and tool-free, so you won’t spend an hour fumbling with complicated instructions. Beloved '00s Rock Band Plays Rare Hidden Track During Nostalgic Festival Performance

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:13pm

Elder emos had their moment Sunday night when My Chemical Romance transported Welcome to Rockville straight back to 2006.

Headlining the final night of the Daytona Beach festival on Sunday, May 10, My Chem celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade by performing the album in full—including one rarely played hidden track.

Right after the group played the reprise from “The End,” the performance transitioned into “Blood,” the hidden track which plays after “Famous Last Words” on the album. The band leaned fully into the theatrical, dark-comedy energy of the performance, with a black-and-white clown character appearing onstage and doing a little striptease while lip-syncing the track. He pretended to “kill” band the members in the process—which included Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, and Ray Toro—fake blood and all.

In one of the night’s most over-the-top (and extremely edgy) moments, the clown ripped open his shirt to reveal a fake explosive vest underneath, moments before a massive onstage explosion effect closed out the chaotic sequence.

But the show wasn’t over yet. The band returned for an encore that included fan favorites “I'm Not Okay (I Promise),” “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na),” “Boy Division,” and a crowd-screaming finale of “Helena.”

“Greatest show in Rockville history hands down,” one Instagram user claimed.

“MCR as the final headliner was genius,” another noted.

A third shared, “best show of my entire life.”

Originally released in 2006, The Black Parade instantly became one of the defining alt-rock albums of the 2000s. Songs like “Teenagers” and “Mama” were on every MySpace profile at one point or another, and the album’s famous military-style outfits and marching band aesthetic became an emo kid staple.

The group’s Rockville appearance is part of an exciting run of festival and stadium performances this year. MCR came out of retirement in 2019 after six years by announcing a one-off show in Los Angeles that December. A reunion tour was announced shortly after, which, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, had to be rescheduled until 2022. The band has been active ever since, kicking off their The Black Parade 2026 World Tour in January to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The performance also capped off a weather-filled weekend at Welcome to Rockville, which experienced several storm delays throughout the festival. Despite the disruptions, organizers kept fans updated on social media, adjusting sets accordingly to accommodate most performers.

The legendary festival, which celebrated its 15th year, featured performances by iconic bands like Ice Nine Kills, Turnstile, and Simple Plan, with headliners like Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, and Bring Me The Horizon.

1967 One-Hit Wonder Was Banned From the Radio Before Becoming a Sunshine Pop Classic

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:07pm

Nowadays, it's pretty rare for a song to get banned from the radio, but back during the '60s, the practice wasn't all that uncommon. The reasons usually had to do with a track being too suggestive, or political, or because it might have been hiding references to drugs...even though that oftentimes wasn't even the case, as with a particularly cheerful one-hit wonder from the Summer of Love: "Yellow Balloon."

Penned by songwriter Gary Zekley, "Yellow Balloon" was first recorded by Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean (while Jan Berry was recovering from a car accident). Zekley wasn't a big fan of Torrence's take on the tune, so he recorded his own version featuring himself on vocals, Mike Post on guitar, Tim Gordon on drums, and Mike Rubini on harpsichord, according to American Songwriter.

Zekley's rendition of "Yellow Balloon" was a much bigger hit, peaking at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May of 1967 (the Jan & Dean recording only made it to #111).

Helping to boost the popularity of "Yellow Balloon" was the surprising controversy surrounding the tune. The year before, in 1966, Donovan's classic hit "Mellow Yellow" was banned by some radio stations because people believed the song was about smoking banana peels to get high (referred to byAtlas Obscura as the "greatest drug hoax of all time"). Despite the fact that "Mellow Yellow" wasn't actually about smoking anything, when "Yellow Balloon" came out, some radio stations assumed it, too, was about drugs, and banned it just to be safe. (Naturally, that just made people want to hear it even more.)

All these years later, the scandal seems more ridiculous than ever, of course, especially considering that the lyrics are about as kid-friendly as you can get:

"I never felt this way before / It's a feeling that I can't explain / There's one thing that I know for sure / I can tell you're feeling it too / 'Cause when I'm walking with you in the rain / It's like a yellow balloon / It's like a yellow balloon / On a rainy afternoon / And that's a yellow balloon"

"Yellow Balloon" got so popular, in fact, that requests started pouring in for live performances. Alas, there was no real band behind the song, as the musicians who played on the track were simply colleagues of Zekler who happened to be available at the time. In an attempt to capitalize on the offers, Canterbury Records exec Ken Handler asked Don Grady to step in as the drummer.

Don Grady was a '60s sitcom star

While Grady was already well-known, it wasn't for music: He played Robbie Douglas on the classic sitcomMy Three Sons. While playing with The Yellow Balloon band, he wore a disguise and used a pseudonym (but word still got out).

The Yellow Balloon went on to record one self-titled album, but parted ways after that. Grady's career in music wasn't over, however; he composed the theme for The Phil Donahue Show, scored the 1991 film Switch and released two solo albums, according to Music Minds.

MCU Star Involved in Tense Biking Altercation

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 6:06pm

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange in multiple Marvel movies, was recently involved in a heated altercation while biking.

In a video shared by TMZ, Cumberbatch can be seen and heard engaging with another cyclist, both of whom were speaking with elevated voices. The video begins with the pair further away, but both Cumberbatch and the other cyclist involved eventually come closer to the person filming, at which point the other cyclist can be heard calling Cumberbatch "deluded" and accusing him of lying.

Cumberbatch, in turn, alleges that the other cyclist was "verbally abusing" him. At one point, the other cyclist accuses Cumberbatch of repeatedly breaking the law, seemingly referring to something that happened on the road, to which Cumberbatch can be heard saying, "I did once, and I've admitted to it," although it's unclear what he is referring to at that point.

Per People, the specific allegation made against Cumberbatch by the other cyclist was that he had run red lights, but it isn't confirmed that Cumberbatch was specifically admitting to that accusation when he said he "did once."

Cumberbatch has appeared in multiple Marvel movies, beginning with the 2016 movie Doctor Strange, for which he was the titular lead. Since then, the star has appeared in a sequel to that movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as the last two Avengers movies, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Cumberbatch also played a key role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the most recent Spider-Man installment ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is releasing on July 31, and he had a brief appearance in Thor: Ragnarok as well.

Interestingly, there have been contradictory reports, including from Cumberbatch himself, regarding whether he will appear in the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters later this year, on December 18. Many suspect that he is in the movie but that his appearance is being kept under wraps for now, although that remains to be seen.

Why NBC is Delaying Reboot of the ‘Greatest TV Series of All Time’

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 5:53pm

Fans of private detective Jim Rockford will have to wait a bit longer than expected for his return to screens.

The 1974 seriesThe Rockford Files has an upcoming reboot on NBC, but the release date is being pushed to midseason.

The original show aired for six seasons, from 1974 to 1980. It starred James Garner as the titular character and was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell.

The show saw success with five Emmys and 18 nominations. It was ranked one of the “Best TV Series” byRolling Stone.

The Rockford Files followed Jim Rockford after he was falsely convicted of a crime. The private detective works to solve crimes, often with the help of his ex-con friends. For Rockford, investigating often involved a fight. The action drama was a huge hit.

On Monday, May 11, Variety reported NBC’s fall schedule, announcing that The Rockford Files reboot will be pushed to January.

According to LisaKatz, president of scripted content at NBC & Peacock, the decision to hold the show is to give it the best chance to succeed.

“It’s largely because of the time periods they’re going into. We are putting TraitorsThursday at 8, and we also think that is a great time period for ‘Rockford,’” she said.

The network doesn’t have any 8 p.m. slots available in the fall. By pushing the reboot to January, “it’s an opportunity to put it where we think it’ll get the biggest and best audience,” said Katz.

The Rockford Files remake has seen quite a bit of buzz since it was announced as one of the first NBC pilots to be picked up. The new series will star DavidBoreanaz, Michaela McManus, FelixSolis, and JackiWeaver.

The detective drama isn't the only show to be delayed until midseason. Upcoming comedy series, Sunset PI, is now set to premiere in February. The show is from the Brooklyn Nine-Nine team and stars Jake Johnson.

Jenna Elfman, 54, Is a Blonde Beauty on the Red Carpet 24 Years After the End of ‘Dharma &Greg'

Mon, 05/11/2026 - 5:51pm

Jenna Elfman has barely changed, almost 25 years after her iconic sitcom, Dharma & Greg, went off the air.

Elfman, 54, rose to stardom on the hit ABC series, which followed Elfman and Thomas Gibson as a sweet couple who married on their first date despite being polar opposites. The show ran from 1997 to 2002, and earned a flurry of awards for its comedy.

Since the show concluded, Elfman has kept herself plenty busy, taking on roles in other comedy series, like Accidentally on Purpose, but also hitting dramas like FX's Damages and AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. Last year, she did a 10-episode stint on Shifting Gears opposite Tim Allen, followed by eight episodes on Dark Winds. But this time, Elfman is heading back to the TV screen all on her own. The blonde beauty, who has an exciting new show in the works, attended the 2026 FOX Upfronts at New York City Center this week. Looking every bit the power queen in a crushed pink power suit, Elfman made it clear that she's simply getting better with age.

What is Jenna Elfman's New Show About?

Elfman's presence at FOX upfronts is an important signal that she's got a high-profile new show in the works. Elfman is to play Stephen Fry’s boss and handler in the Fox drama series The Interrogator, Deadline reported earlier this month. Set to premiere with a 12-episode run during the 2026-27 season, the show will feature Fry as a former MI6 agent named Conrad Henry.

According to the description, "Elfman plays Woodrow, who was a rising star in the CIA until a mission gone awry sent her tumbling down the ladder. Now she finds herself at the D.I.A. as a handler for Henry’s group.  She sees it as a demotion — the first step on her climb back up to where she fell from. She supervises Henry’s cases, pushes him, and often quarrels with him — Conrad is always seven steps ahead, and Woodrow is rarely more than five steps ahead. But the pair have a grudging mutual respect that makes for a fun, strange-bedfellows partnership.”

Luke Kleintank and Michael Beach will also star in the series.
