BunnieXo is moving on from JellyRoll.

After 10 years of marriage, the couple recently called it quits. Jelly Roll filed for divorce on May 18. The news became public on June 16.

Now, the 46-year-old Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic author is locking lips with a 24-year-old reality TV star.

Bunnie Xo was spotted kissing Dylan Wolf, a star on Netflix’s new show Calabasas Confidential, in Jelly Roll's bar, according to a video obtained by TMZ. 

The bar, Jelly Roll's Goodnight Nashville, opened in February 2025. The four-story venue includes a full dining experience, a pop-up tattoo parlor, and a rooftop. The second floor is called “XO Bunnie’s” and honors Bunnie Xo with a large portrait of the Dumb Blonde Podcast host.

The duo was caught on the Fourth of July. Bunnie Xo and Wolf were in the rooftop's VIP section.

They were seen watching the firework show together while Wolf smoked a cigarette, coupled up next to Bunnie Xo.

The pair also recently appeared in a TikTok together.

They mouthed along to an audio that said, “She thinks I owe her an apology! Good thing she don't get paid for thinking.” The onscreen text stated, “@ everyone thinking they’re connecting the dots,” and the caption read “Undeleted Pod coming soon @Bunnie Xo 🪄  #fyp #bunniexo.”

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jelly Roll filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo, with sources noting that it was a “mutual decision by the two and a private family matter.”

In an episode of theDumb Blonde Podcast, released Thursday, June 18, Bunnie Xo revealed that Jelly Roll has “started dating.”

Adding, "Daddy Roll is probably in his finest season, right? He's feeling himself. He looks so good. He is healthier than he's ever been," she said. “Don’t be scared. Shoot your motherf—ing shot. I will be the ex-wife, okay? And we’ll have a great time.”

Admittedly, whenever I compliment something a friend is wearing, my mind wonders how much they spent on it. And that doesn't only go for wearable items like clothes, shoes and jewelry—I'm always curious to know what people spend on things like furniture, cars, concert tickets, workout classes, hair appointments, plane tickets and even their rent. And I'm often tempted to ask.

But, thanks to common sense and social decency, I usually keep those questions to myself. That said, is it really rude to ask how much someone paid for something?

To get a nuanced answer, I reached out to an expert: Maryanne Parker, founder and executive director of etiquette company Manor of Manners and author of multiple books on etiquette. And according to Parker, there's one key thing to consider before you ask someone a question such as "how much did that cost?"

"In the world of etiquette, there is one important rule that should never be overlooked: learn to read the room," she tells Parade. "This simple observation can shape the course of a conversation—either leading to a meaningful exchange or, on the other hand, making people feel uncomfortable."

Is It Rude To Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something?

According to Parker, the answer to this question varies depending on a number of factors, which will be discussed below. But in general, yes, it can be rude to ask how much something cost.

"In many situations, asking someone the price of an item may be perceived as intrusive, offensive or even patronizing," Parker tells Parade.

But at the same time, "asking about cost is usually not inherently rude. Whether it is appropriate depends much more on context, relationship, purpose and how the question is asked than on the topic itself," per Parker. That's because in some circumstances, the question "can be genuine, thoughtful and practical. The difference lies in the context, the relationship between the people involved, and the intent behind the question."

On What Occasions Is It Appropriate To Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something?

It's all about context. If you have a legitimate reason for wanting to know the cost of something and you ask in a respectful way, you can probably get away with broaching the topic. For instance, if you're asking for practical reasons—like if you're considering buying a similar product or service—it's usually appropriate to ask.

The same applies in regards to asking people what they charge clients, such as asking a travel agent the cost of a vacation or asking a contractor the cost of a home renovation, Parker explains.

Who you're speaking with also makes a difference

The relationship between you and the other person is also a major factor when considering asking what something cost. If discussing money with each other is normal, go right ahead and ask.

"If we are close enough, I may feel comfortable asking a wide range of questions," Parker says, regardless of if the person is a relative, friend or colleague.

"People who know us and have interacted with us over time generally understand how far they can go because an established rapport already exists," she explains. "Some people are naturally very direct and have fewer personal boundaries, while others are more reserved, classy, polite and refined in the way they communicate. Recognizing and respecting those differences is an important part of navigating conversations appropriately."

5 Ways to Politely Ask How Much Someone Paid for Something

Parker notes that social norms around discussing finances vary across cultures. But in general, here are a few exact phrases she suggests using:

1. "Would you mind if I asked how much it was? I am looking for something similar."
2. "I really like this! I'm thinking about getting something similar for my son. Would you mind telling me where you got it and about how much it cost?"
3. "This is really nice. If you don't mind me asking, what price range is it in?"
4. "I'm considering buying one myself. Would you be comfortable sharing what you paid for it?"
5. "This looks fantastic! I love it, but I'm not sure whether it's within my budget. Was it fairly expensive?"

And no matter how you phrase your question, always make sure to ask it "without implying approval, disapproval, envy or judgment," advises Parker.

What To Do if Someone Won't Tell You What Something Cost

If you ask someone what something cost and they don't immediately answer, Parker says "it's generally best not to press the issue." Just respond with something like, "No worries— thanks for letting me know where you got it" (if they did tell you where they got it).

"That approach respects their privacy while still giving them an opportunity to share if they're comfortable," Parker explains. "In many cases, if someone doesn't mind discussing the price, they'll tell you without hesitation. If they prefer not to, gracefully moving on helps keep the conversation comfortable for everyone."

Ultimately, whether or not it's rude to ask how much someone paid for something—as well as how you phrase the question—will come down to your gut instinct.

"From my personal experience, I have learned to be mindful of where I am, whom I ask and how I ask," Parker tells Parade. "It is not always the question itself that matters, but the way it is asked. Our tone, our curiosity and our intentions all play an important role in how our message is received and the responses we receive."

Just weeks after a child exited a log while riding Disneyland’s Tiana’s Baryou Adventure, a cast member monitoring the attraction noticed a child leave the log. TMZ reports the cast member immediately initiated an emergency ride stop. The incident took place over the Fourth of July holiday weekend on Saturday, July 4. The ride was temporarily shut down in the aftermath.

Following the incident, the attraction was inspected the following morning by officials with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. It was approved to be re-opened.

Last month, a 13-year-old exited a log on the ride, causing a fall down the 50-foot waterfall. The guest was transported to a local hospital. Miraculously, he did not suffer any serious injuries and was later released. The terrifying ordeal was caught on camera phone video and shared with the media.

Globe Magazine reports a guest shared a video on Instagram on June 29 of people appearing to try and exit the log on the same ride while in motion. In the video, a cast member can be overheard warning the rider, “Remain right where you are.” In the caption of the Instagram user’s reel post, they wrote, “The Disneyland version of this ride doesn’t have lap restraints like its counterpart in Florida and riders sit in a single row. We were stuck for over 30 minutes after the party in front exited their ride vehicle!”

Tiana's Bayou Adventure officially replaced the iconic Splash mountain.It opened at Disneyland in November 2024. Along the interactive ride, guests join Princess Tiana and Louis the alligator on a search for musicians to play a Mardi Gras party before the big 50ft drop.

Another iteration of the ride officially opened to the public at Walt Disney World in Florida in June 2024. When riders exit, they enter a general store filled with merch they can purchase.

Many know the Rolling Stones for their rocker sound that defined an era, but the band has more than enough emotional ballads that showed a softer side to them, like "Fool to Cry," which was released during a pivotal time of their career.

Mick Jagger,Keith Richards, and the rest of the band were stunned when Mick Taylor announced he was leaving the band after having joined in 1969 as lead guitarist. He released a press statement in December 1974 just as the Rolling Stones were working on their 13th album, Black and Blue.

Taylor said in his statement that his time with the band was the "most inspiring" and had nothing but admiration for his bandmates. After almost six years, it was time for him to move on. According to UDiscoverMusic, Jagger had no idea he planned to leave when they met weeks prior, and “He obviously has a lot of troubles – personal problems – but they’re nothing to do with us. I don’t even know the true nature of them.”

With no lead guitarist, Richards insisted their music would feel incomplete and needed a replacement. As a result, Black and Blue became an experimental opportunity for the band to find someone new and release tracks that differed from what fans knew them for. One track was a hit rock ballad titled "Fool to Cry" written by Jagger and Richards.

Looking for a new guitarist led Wayne Perkins to play the part on the track alongside Richards. The track was seen by critics and fans as a bit off the beaten path for the Stones, with the ballad focused on a narrator feeling saddened by the world, with his daughter, friends, and lover trying to lift his spirits.

According to American Songwriter, Jagger revealed the inspiration dating “from the period when I had a young child, my daughter Jade, around a lot, calling me ‘daddy’ and all that. It’s another of our heartmelting ballads, a bit long and waffly at the end maybe, but I like it.”

While Jagger developed its backstory and lyrics, he wasn't convinced it was worth being released as a single and was told otherwise. Despite its mixed response, "Fool to Cry" ranked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list and in multiple Top 10 lists across the world. It became a classic thanks to Jagger's honeyed falsetto, which Richards said he was "glad somebody in the band could sing" it.

“I got a pretty good falsetto myself. But when you got a singer and he can hit those notes, baby go for it. And Mick was always fascinated with the falsetto soul singers like Aaron Neville. That’s crafty stuff, you know what I mean?" he explained.

The track was later recorded by Ween for an Uma Thurman film that was later rejected for another one of their tracks. Lena Dunhamcommissioned Tegan and Sara to record the track for HBO's Golden Globe-winning show Girls.

Released on Jan. 6, the song uses the anniversary of the Capitol riot as a starting point for a broader reflection on division and the search for unity.

“Behind every Amy Grant song, there’s a heartfelt story that complicates a question … usually one about how we treat one another while we still breathe on this Earth,” the outlet wrote. “In a warm arrangement that foregrounds Grant’s quietly resilient voice, she nods lyrically to Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, and Marvin Gaye, at first seeming to contrast the lost idealism of the ’60s with the violence of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.”

The song was written by Nashville songwriter Sandy Emory Lawrence, a longtime friend of Grant’s. And it came to her as she was leaving for a West Coast tour.

“My suitcase is in the front hall, and I opened the door, and there was Sandy holding a strumstick,” Grant told USA Today. “She wanted to play a song for me and I said, ‘I’m leaving for the airport, but let’s go to the bedroom, and I can film it on my phone.' I was so intrigued by the strumstick and the song that when I came back (from the tour), I asked her if I could record it.”

The folk-pop track was released as a single and featured on her latest album, The Me That Remains. With its date-driven imagery tied to Woodstock, it prompts reflection on cultural unrest.

“Grant, here treating Sandy Emory Lawrence’s songwriting with tenderness, doesn't merely sing a protest song, but asks us to participate,” NPR added. “Each line is loaded with the history of a people who have ‘lost [their] way.’ A masterclass in what it means to be—and how we can be—American.”

The Me That Remains marks Grant’s first collection of original songs in 13 years and a reflective return to the songwriting roots that helped define her decades-long career. The track uses nostalgia as a framework for asking questions about modern division and how to sit with societal tension.

“We are all trying to find our way,” Grant shared on Instagram. “This song begins my story of sitting in unrest and growing throughout. It's not just the beginning of the stories of 'me' but how we can become a 'we.'”

“Maybe there is hope to come together and find the way forward through the unrest," she added on TikTok. "I believe in that hope. I hope this song brings you some, too."

Zooey Deschanel's golden hair in Elf has been part of the Christmas classic's charm for more than 20 years. It turns out it was never the plan.

Appearing on the Zach Sang Show podcast on Monday, July 6, the 46-year-old actress explained that her blonde look in the 2003 film came from a completely different project, one that never saw the light of day.

Before she landed Elf, Deschanel did a screen test for a movie about a pop star in the vein of Britney Spears. She said producers thought she did not look the part, so they went all in on a makeover.

"They dyed my hair blonde and they put these extensions in, they gave me a tan, a whole thing," Deschanel recalled. The pop star movie fell apart. The hair color stuck around.

'You Need to Look How You Looked in the Audition'

The Elf audition came soon after, while she was still blonde. Because dyeing her dark brown hair had been "a long process," she decided to leave it. Once she got the part, she asked if she could go back to brown.

The answer was no. "You need to look how you looked in the audition," she was told. And so Jovie, the Gimbels department store worker who catches Buddy's eye, stayed blonde.

"It was really random," Deschanel said.

A Role That Almost Went to Someone Else

The hair story is one more twist in Deschanel's winding path to the film. She has said the role of Jovie was first offered to Katie Holmes, who exited over a scheduling conflict before Deschanel stepped in opposite Will Ferrell's Buddy, blonde hair and all.

Valerie Bertinelli still has not made peace with the end of Hot in Cleveland, and she is not keeping quiet about it.

More than a decade after the TV Land sitcom premiered, the 66-year-old actress said that its 2015 ending still stings. She felt the show had plenty of stories left to tell. "I'm still more than grateful for the experience," Bertinelli expressed, "and I'm still pissed off for cancelling us a year too early in my mind."

A New Podcast Brings the Cast Back Together

Bertinelli is channeling that fondness into Still Hot in Cleveland, a "nostalgia-cast" she co-hosts with the show's former executive producer, Todd Milliner. Each season of the sitcom gets its own two or three episodes, with guests that include former co-stars Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves plus the writers and crew who built it.

Hot in Cleveland ran from 2010 to 2015 and followed three Los Angeles friends whose flight to Paris makes an emergency landing in Ohio, convincing them to start their lives over in Cleveland. The late Betty White played the sharp-tongued caretaker of their new home.

Could There Ever Be a Revival?

Bertinelli is not ruling it out, though she admits White's absence complicates the math. White died in December 2021.

"I know Wendie's not crazy about that idea, because she's right, without Betty, how is it Hot in Cleveland?" Bertinelli said.

She believes the podcast, recorded in her home wine cave, is its own kind of reunion. It debuts first for members of her fan community, Valerie's Place. For now, that is as close to a Cleveland reunion as fans are going to get.

Pocket Potters: Little Guides is a collection of 32-page, authorized companion guides to the iconic universe, each one complete with fun facts, details, and colorful illustrations dedicated to its designated character. For Dobby, illustrated by Helen Brady, this means fans will get insight into the Malfoys and why socks are so important to the loyal house-elf; for Hagrid, illustrated by Olia Muza, fans will learn more about the contents of the warmhearted half-giant's pockets and why he cares so much for magical creatures.

These latest offerings mark the sixth and seventh guides in the Pocket Potters series from Bloomsbury Publishing, which also includes titles on the core three, among others. This mini-franchise supplements the original seven-book series, with Harry Potter and the Cursed Childserving as the script for a stage play.

The two new Pocket Potter books arrive ahead of HBO Max’s episodic retelling of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. With this adaptation, the first season will premiere globally on Christmas Day, stream exclusively on the platform, and span 10 episodes, with new seasons releasing through 2037.

The news also follows the announcement of Audible’s Full-Cast Audio Editions, which are cinematic listening experiences, featuring massive productions with more than 200 performers, including Hugh Laurie and Matthew Macfadyen, of the original seven books.

Since the first book’s release in June 1997, Rowling's world of Harry Potter has become one of the greatest book series of all time.

“With over 600 million copies sold worldwide, the Harry Potter series has become a literary phenomenon,” Forbes wrote, “and has been translated into numerous languages, inspiring a generation of readers and an equally lucrative film franchise.”

Midland has some exciting news for its fans.

The legendary country rock band announced via Instagram on Tuesday that they will be hitting the road all summer and fall across the United States, performing in various cities around California, Montana, Utah, Nevada, Texas, Arizona and more, from this month to mid-November. Titled the Stages Tour to support their most recent studio album with the same name, the lineup of shows is set to kick off on July 16 in Bakersfield and conclude in Waco, Texas, on Nov. 14.

"We’re hitting the road this summer and fall on the Stages Tour. Where will we see you?" they wrote in their caption.

The country rock trio has a busy year ahead of them. In between their shows for the Stages Tour, they are also set to open for Kacey Musgraves and her Middle of Nowhere Tour, starting on Aug 20 in Chicago. In addition, Midland is set to co-headline a national tour alongside Clint Black in October, starting in North Carolina.

Despite what many may perceive as a grueling schedule, the three members of Midland — Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cameron Duddy — have told multiple outlets that touring for them "never gets old."

"We wanted to create a business out of touring," Duddy told Pollstar back in 2019 when they were on their Let It Roll Tour. "We like to play for people, and we felt we have more than No. 1s to offer ... It felt really scary locking into a business plan that doesn't feel anything like us."

Midland was created by the trio in 2014 in Texas. Since their formation 12 years ago, the group has released two EPs and five studio albums, with their most recent being Stages on June 12. Seven of their singles have reached the Billboard country charts, one of them being their first single, "Drinkin' Problem," which charted on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay upon its debut and garnered Midland two Grammy Awards in 2018.

"One of the greatest thrills of doing this is getting to meet people who were there in the heyday of the music that we love," Wystrach told 24 Hour Fitness in a feature piece. "It’s just about exploring these stories from the past when you were able to get away with crazy [explicit] and not go to jail."

Charles Spencer is looking back on fond memories with his late sister, Princess Diana.

The younger brother to the late royal, took to Instagram on Tuesday with a black and white photo of him and his sister from their childhood.

"Summer moment, 60 years ago," he captioned the adorable picture where the two were playing on a swing set.

Fans of Diana of course loved to see a different side of her and were delighted to see a photo of her in a happy time in her life.

"A great photo. Thanks for sharing. Always in our hearts. With longing and love," one said.

"Lovely photo!!! Princess Diana will always be remembered for her timeless fashion, kindness, and incredible humanitarian. Her legacy lives on," another added.

"I see so much of Diana in her son Harry," observed another mentioning Diana's youngest son who has become estranged from his family. "She was taken from us far too soon. I think of her every day and still miss her."

Charles sporadically posts photos and tributes of his older sister who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997. She would have been 65 on July 1 this year.

Last year he took to social media to commemorate the day she died on August 31.

“Flowers we cut this morning from Althorp’s gardens for the Island,” he captioned a photo of flowers. “Always an impossible day.”

In October, he spoke onThe Rosebud Podcast, and recalled his writing process for his sister's eulogy, which he gave at her high profile memorial service at Westminster Abbey.

"I jotted a few things down, very traditional eulogy, almost, you know, 'She was very good at this as a child,' and all that, and then I thought, 'Well, this is ridiculous, that's not who she was,' and then overnight I must have been chuntering away, and I realized that my job actually wasn't to do that, but it was almost to speak for her."

Three of his daughters, Diana's nieces, Kitty, Amelia, and Eliza regularly, but perhaps indirectly, pay homage to their aunt with their fashion.

In an episode of his podcast Bussin’ With the Boys, former Tennessee Titans lineman Taylor Lewan revealed that he wasn’t invited to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding on July 3.

Lewan and Kelce have been friends for over a decade, and the Kansas City Chiefs player was featured on an episode of Bussin’ With the Boysin 2024. However, on today’s episode of the podcast, Lewan went on a rant about how he was snubbed from the wedding invite list.

“Going into the weekend, I thought, ‘Oh, good. Didn’t get an invite,'” Lewan said. “Checked my AOL account, reactivated that. No invite in there. And I was just making sure.”

Lewan mentioned that guests like Benson Boone, Bowen Yang and Fox Sports rules analyst Dean Blandino were all in attendance. Lewan said that George Kittle, a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, was also there.

“When I saw George Kittle and Claire, I was like, ‘Oh, awesome. Tight end and friends. You should absolutely be there,’” Lewan recalled. “But then I saw George Kittle’s mom and mother-in-law.”

When one of Lewan’s co-hosts mentioned that Kittle and Kelce are close, Lewan argued back, “They’re close, but like yo, we’re boys.”

“I’ve known you for over 10 years,” Lewan said, referring to Kelce. “We text and call each other. ... I’m gonna take the high road. Okay. But I’m just thinking, dude, I’m clearly doing something wrong in our friendship, clearly something wrong. … There’s clearly a blind spot I’m not seeing.”

Lewan said he’s not taking away from “how amazing this wedding probably was,” and said that he’s happy for Kelce and Swift. He just wants to know why he wasn’t invited.

Another friend who didn’t make the list was Will Compton, who played in the NFL for nine years. Compton was “flabbergasted” that he didn’t get an invite.

“All of these photos I keep seeing. I see [Fox Sports rules analyst] Dean Blandino got an invitation? Is that real?” Compton asked on an episode of the Wake Up Barstool podcast.

Although Compton said he didn’t think much of it at the time, he’s shocked he was snubbed from the invite list.

Thirty-five years after the 1990 film swept the 1991 Academy Awards, winning Kevin Costnerboth Best Director and Best Actor Oscars, Dances With Wolves is finally getting a much-needed restoration. Costner's epic Civil War-era film about a soldier who befriends a tribe of Lakota Indians is getting a 4K update, and those attending the 2026 Locarno Festival will be the first to view the film with sharper, clearer images.

A Historic Premiere at Locarno

The 80th anniversary of the festival will take place from August 5 through August 15 in Locarno, Switzerland. The updated Dances With Wolves will take place on August 7 in the 17,000-square-meter open-air Piazza Grande. Along with an extra 30 minutes of never-before-seen footage, audiences will see the movie as Costner originally envisioned. The Zurich-based laboratory Cinegrell worked with the Festival's Locarno Heritage project to restore the film.

"Costner’s western epic, which won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, helped redefine the western at the turn of the 1990s and drew global attention to the historical plight of Indigenous peoples on the American continent," the Festival wrote in a press release.

Mystery Surrounding the New Footage

It's unknown what new footage this version will feature. An extended version was already released on VHS in 1994, DVD in 2003, and then a 20th Anniversary Blu-ray edition in 2011. That rendering lengthened the 181-minute film to 236 minutes, adding 53 new or extended scenes and including alternative scenes omitted from the theatrical version.

In 2004, Costner told Entertainment Weekly that he had nothing to do with the extended editions that had been released. "I didn’t work on the long version of Dances With Wolves,” he insisted. He claimed what he was a fan of was extras, such as alternative endings and deleted scenes.

”I release the versions I want," he explained. "They are long, so I don’t need for ’em to be any longer."

For over 33 years, Brad Bell has been running the writers' room and headwriting the CBS soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful. Now the award-winning storyteller has shared how often stories evolve from where things initially begin.

Bell was interviewed on the SOAPY podcast, hosted by Greg Rikaart and Rebecca Budig, in honor of the podcast's first-year anniversary.

During the conversation, Rikaart asks the Daytime Emmy-winner how often storylines change during the writing process from where they begin to where the storyline eventually ends on-screen.

Bell answered the question honestly and directly, “Most of the time.”

He elaborated that this is why, when actors come up to him and ask where the storyline is going, he typically avoids answering in detail. Bell shared a recent example of telling an actor a storyline in a bit more detail and how it changed.

“I told Crew Morrow, I said, ‘You're joining a motorcycle gang and you're going to really go downhill because you lose Electra.’ And he's like, ‘I'm so excited for the motorcycle gang.’”

Bell added that things quickly changed for him, about four hours later to be exact, so he pivoted the storyline in a different direction. A week later, the showrunner admits to running into Morrow again, who shared, “I've been thinking about motorcycles.” And he had to explain that it was no longer a thing.

Bell shared that stories are “always in flux, always changing.”

Budig added that, having worked in the industry for decades, she always says the same thing when she hears rumblings about storylines. “I'm like, I'll wait till I see it. I'll wait till it's out there because, as you said, things change.”

The Rolling Stones recently made headlines when they revealed a song on their forthcoming album features a surprise guest spot by an unlikely collaborator.

At a press event to drum up promotion for the Stones new album, Foreign Tongues, due out July 10, Mick Jagger revealed that the Stones collaborated with Robert Smith, frontman of veteran post-punk band the Cure. Smith contributed guitar, synths, and backing vocals to the songs “Divine Intervention” and “Never Wanna Lose You.”

“There’s this man with his back to me with this long gown on,” Jagger recalled at the event about his random meeting with Smith at the recording studio the Stones were working at. “When he turned around, he was covered in lipstick. And I said—I’ve never met him before-- ‘You’re Robert Smith of the Cure.’ And he said, ‘Yeah.” We’ve never met. And I said, “Well, while you’re here then you better go and do something.” That’s how collaborations work sometimes. “Go out and sing the backing vocal.”

While the pairing of goth-rock icon Smith with the Stones seems kind of unlikely, it was strangely predicted—sort of--in the 2011 film This Must Be the Place, which stars Sean Penn as a mope-rock character clearly modeled after Smith.

In the star-studded but little-seen film, Penn plays a retired goth-rocker who’s lost his groove after apparently two hardcore fans committed suicide after listening to one of his depressing songs.

If Sean Penn dressed like Robert Smith isn’t bizarre enough, the character Cheyenne turns Nazi hunter after the death of his father and goes on a search for a SS officer who tormented his late father.

In one scene, Penn’s Smith-like character encounters the granddaughter of the alleged Nazi, portrayed by Kerry Condon. “Now I remember you,” Condon’s character says in the film. “You sang with Mick Jagger once.”

Penn’s Smith-like character responds, “Actually, Mick Jagger sang with me.”

So, This Must Be the Place didn’t actually predict the Stones-Robert Smith collaboration but set the stage that such a collab could exist. Since we only discovered and watched the film after the Stones-Smith collaboration was announced, we found the coincidence stunning.

Also, while we’re not sure we’d call This Must Be the Place a fine film, it is worth a watch for the casting of Penn in the role as well as an all-star cast that includes Frances McDormand as the wife of Penn’s character, as well as appearances by Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson, Judd Hirsch, and David Byrne as himself.

Byrne’s appearance in the film makes sense since his 1983 Talking Heads classic serves as the film’s title and Byrne performs the song in the movie before having a lengthy conversation with Penn’s character about the pressures of being a rock star.
