1969 One-Hit Wonder, Covered by Sonny & Cher, Was Originally From a Band That Wasn’t Together When the Song Became a Hit
“More Today Than Yesterday” was a 1969 hit song released by the pop band Spiral Staircase, who are known as one-hit wonders. The song reached number one on the KHJ Boss Radio survey and No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also made it onto Billboard’s list of Top Hot 100 songs of 1969.
The song was written by Pat Upton, who was also the lead vocalist for the band. According to RebeatMag, when speaking about the creation of the song, Upton said, “I’d had the title ‘More Today than Yesterday’ for a couple of years before I ever wrote the song. I was jamming with a friend, and he showed me a passing chord that I loved. I knew I would never use that chord with the stuff we were doing at the time, and decided the only way was to write a song and use it, and I did. When the chorus came around, those words ‘I love you more today than yesterday’ just fell right into place.”
Candy Kaye, who is the wife of band member Harvey Kaye, said her husband knew they had a hit because, “We were staying at the Bali Hai Motel in Las Vegas, where we were performing as the house band in the Flamingo Sky Room. To test it out, we would play the song just to see if people would dance to it. Every time we played it, people would ask who originally did the song and where could they get it, so we knew we had a hit on our hands.”
Unfortunately, the group wasn’t doing well when the song came out. “We were breaking up and were not together as a band when ‘More Today Than Yesterday’ came out and became a hit,” Upton said. But then “‘More Today Than Yesterday’ started playing on the radio and everybody jumped back on board.”
Unfortunately, the band broke up about 18 months after the release of the song, around 1970.
Upton died in 2016 at the age of 75.

Check the activity level. “Understand the pace, including how much walking is involved and how much leisure time there is,” says Acharya.
Know what’s included. “Get a clear list of what’s included and what costs extra, especially meals, excursions, transfers and gratuities,” says Ahmadi.
Ask about the single supplement. “To avoid paying extra for a single room, look for promotions that waive the supplement, ask about roommate matching or invite a friend,” says DeYoung.
Don’t overpack. “You may need to carry your suitcase to your room, so make sure you can,” says Orr.
Count the hotel changes. “Check how often you change hotels. It can make a big difference in how the trip feels,” says Ahmadi.
Consider travel insurance. “Travel insurance is a must to protect your vacation investment, covering trip cancellations, interruptions and emergency medical needs,” says DeYoung.
Plan your arrival. “Arrive a day or two early so a delayed flight doesn’t cause problems,” says Acharya.
Try something new. “Be open to meeting new people and trying optional activities outside your comfort zone,” says Orr.

Robert Durst was convicted in 2021 of killing his friend Susan Berman; 21 years after she was shot in her Benedict Canyon home, a judge gave him life without parole
Being the son of real estate magnate Seymour Durst would be enough to attract media attention, but being a convicted murderer and serial killer takes it to another level.
Robert Durst, who was the eldest son of Seymour and Bernice Herstein, grew up with three younger siblings in Scarsdale, New York, about 20 miles north of Manhattan. When he was seven years old, his mother died from suicide, and he claimed that he saw her stand on the roof (though one of his brothers, Douglas, denied this in an interview with The New York Times). He also went to therapy, where his psychiatrist diagnosed him with personality decomposition and possibly schizophrenia.
He attended the local high school and went on to study economics at Lehigh University, where he was also a member of their lacrosse team and business manager for the student paper. Years later, he enrolled in a doctoral program at UCLA, where he met Susan Berman, but he eventually dropped out and moved back to New York in 1969.

Who was Susan Berman?Susan Berman was the daughter of organized crime figure and mobster, David Berman, who eventually wrote about her realization of her father’s role in organized crime. She was a student at UCLA working towards her undergraduate degree when she met Durst. Though she was receiving millions of dollars due to her father’s interests in casinos and other properties, Berman was an author and a journalist; and she had two memoirs published in 1981 and 1996.
On Christmas Eve in 2000, Berman was found murdered, executed with a 9mm handgun, in her rented home in Benedict Canyon, about 13 miles away from central Los Angeles. Investigators believed she was killed a day prior. Her killing was left unsolved for years, until Durst was arrested in New Orleans on March 14, 2015 on a first-degree murder warrant. Two days after his arrest, Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said that, if convicted, Durst could face the death penalty in California for “special circumstances of murder of a witness and lying in wait.”
As investigations were taking place on Berman’s murder, Durst was called by the Los Angeles Police Department when he was asked to confirm that he sent Berman $25,000 before her death. Investigators also asked Durst about his missing wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, who disappeared in 1982. He then declined to be further questioned.
After being tipped off by his sister Wendy that the McCormack investigation had been reopened in 1999, Durst went into hiding and moved to Galveston, Texas, disguising himself as a mute woman to avoid police inquiries. Cathy Scott, who wrote about Berman in a biography, has asserted that Durst killed her because she had incriminating knowledge about his wife’s disappearance.
Robert Durst is sentenced on October 14, 2021 in Los Angeles, California.On March 14, 2015, Durst was arrested by FBI agents in New Orleans. When searching his belongings, they recovered weed, his birth certificate and passports, maps of Louisiana, Florida and Cuba, where he had plans to flee to after The Jinx, the TV docuseries that delves into the strange history of Durst and unsolved disappearance of McCormack, was released. A second season was released in April 2024, and all 12 episodes of The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst can be streamed on HBO Max.
After many months of trials that were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and health issues Durst had, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole on Oct. 14, 2021 for Berman’s murder. Two days later, he tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on a ventilator.
Durst passed away at 78 years old due to cardiac arrest. At the time of his death, he was in custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul listed his Los Angeles house for $10 million and moved his family to Paris; more than a year later he sold it for $7.5 million
Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, best known for playing Jesse Pinkman in the hit AMC crime drama series, made a major real estate move, selling his historic Los Angeles home for nearly $7.5 million after more than a year on the market.
The 47-year-old actor moved to Paris with his family in early 2025 before listing the property for almost $10 million in July that year.
The estate was ultimately sold for about $2.5 million below its original asking price.
In April 2019, Paul purchased the historic Los Angeles home, originally commissioned by Charles Seyler in 1922, a prominent insurance company president who lived there with his wife, Marie.

Located at 2666 Aberdeen Avenue in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California, the property was designed by renowned American architect Stiles O. Clements. It was also among the first private homes built in the foothills above Los Feliz.
The iconic Los Angeles property boasts approximately 4,000 square feet and sits on about 1.5 acres of terraced land just below Griffith Park.
The home features four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, along with a classic Spanish Colonial design featuring soaring wood-beam ceilings, hand-painted surfaces, arched windows, stained glass, vintage tile and iridescent copper detailing.
Another unique feature of the house is a secret passage behind a vault door that leads to a former speakeasy, adding an intriguing historical detail to the property.
Beyond its distinctive design, the Seyler House has had several notable owners over the years. This includes NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Curry, Noah Wyle, Robert Pattinson and Jim Parsons, from whom Paul bought the nearly 1.5 acres of land for $6.95 million in 2019.
For years, the three-time Primetime Emmy Award winner had called Los Angeles home but the devastating Southern California wildfires in January 2025 prompted him and his family to reconsider their future in the city.
“When the fires happened in LA, we just knew that we were done with LA, so we sold our house in L.A. and moved to Paris,” he told the Daily Mail.
Although his family had long dreamed of spending a year abroad, the wildfires became the turning point that pushed them to make the move.
In addition, Paul later explained that he and his wife wanted their children to experience another culture and learn a new language.
“We have always dreamt of doing a year abroad, specifically in Paris,” he said, as cited by Travel + Leisure. “Love the food, the history, the people. Every time I came to Paris, I never wanted to leave. We wanted our kids to learn another language and be surrounded by another culture. It was very important to us.”
After listing the Los Angeles home for $10 million in July 2025, Paul reduced the asking price to $8.2 million in January 2026 after several months on the market without a buyer.
The property ultimately sold for $7.5 million on Oct. 6, according to property records cited by Realtor.com.

61-Year-Old ‘The Outsiders’ Actor Stuns Fans With New Photo
For fans of Francis Ford Coppola‘s iconic 1983 film The Outsiders, the Greasers and Socs will forever be frozen in time.
Four decades after the movie helped launch an entire generation of Hollywood stars, 61-year-old actor Darren Jack Dalton has shared a new photo that connects him to his film roots. Dalton played Soc member Randy Anderson.
On Instagram, Dalton posted a photograph alongside his family who attended a Broadway performance of the musical The Outsiders. He captioned the image, “A night enjoying a few of my favorite things. I love my family, and I love The Outsiders Musical.”
The Outsiders musical opened April 11, 2024, on Broadway. The story is set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, and follows 14-year-old orphan Ponyboy Curtis and his tight-knit gang of Greasers. As they navigate brotherhood and survival, they find themselves locked in a bitter, ongoing war with their affluent, upper-class rivals, the Socs.

Dalton’s character, Randy, serves as a crucial bridge between the two groups. Originally self-serving, Randy is profoundly changed after the death of his friend Bob (Leif Garrett), ultimately realizing that the endless cycle of violence between the rival groups is completely pointless.

Guitar Legend, 81, Books 4 Nights at Royal Albert Hall After Illness Kept Him From Buddy Guy’s 90th
Some musicians have a favorite venue. One of rock’s most celebrated guitarists has something closer to a second home, a London concert hall he has played more than 200 times, and he is going back next spring.
Eric Clapton, 81, will play five concerts in England in May 2027. The run opens May 17 at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, followed by four nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 20, 21, 23 and 24. The dates were announced on Clapton’s Instagram, with a fan club presale Oct. 15 and general tickets on sale Oct. 16.
The news comes less than two weeks after Clapton missed a night that had billed him as its biggest guest. He had been announced for Buddy’s Got the Blues, a 90th birthday celebration for blues great Buddy Guy at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Oct. 1, but Guy told the crowd Clapton had fallen ill on short notice. The stage filled anyway, with John Mayer, Derek Trucks, Billy Gibbons and Joe Bonamassa among the guests.
The absence stood out because the two guitarists are closely linked. Clapton has long named Guy among his chief influences, and many of the same players had shared a stage with both men days earlier at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Austin, Texas. No details about the illness were given.
For Clapton, the Royal Albert Hall has long been a personal venue. He first played there in December 1964 as a member of the Yardbirds, and he has since performed at the venue more than 200 times, once likening it to “playing in my front room.” In 2018, he was among the first 11 people honored with a star on the hall’s Walk of Fame, alongside figures such as Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein.

The hall has seen some of his biggest moments, including the 24 Nights concerts of 1990 and 1991, Cream’s 2005 reunion and a seven-night run in May 2015 celebrating his 70th birthday. The May 2027 shows will arrive about 62 years after that first appearance.
The dates cap a busy stretch. Clapton began his 2026 touring with two warm-up shows in Guildford in April, toured several European countries in the spring, played a six-city U.S. run in September and hosted his seventh Crossroads festival. Fans will hear previously unreleased recordings sooner: The Road to Escondido: Enhanced Edition, marking 20 years since his album with J.J. Cale, arrives Nov. 20 with three previously unreleased songs.
At 81, Clapton remains the only artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, as a solo act and as a member of both the Yardbirds and Cream. Next May, he returns to the venue most closely tied to that legacy.

DWTS Pro Brandon Armstrong Says Ciara Miller’s Scrapped Dedication Night Dance Would Have Been ‘Unbelievable’
Ciara Miller didn’t make it to Dedication Night on Dancing With the Stars Season 35, but if she had, viewers would have been in for a one-of-a-kind tribute.
The Summer House star, who also works as a model, had planned to honor one of the most meaningful parts of her life with a nod to her past work as a New York City intensive care unit nurse.
Miller’s DWTS partner Brandon Armstrong told People magazine that the reality TV beauty was “really in the mix” as an ICU nurse during the onset of the COVID pandemic in early 2020.
While Miller and Armstrong were eliminated from the ABC ballroom show in Week 4, they had planned to pay tribute to nurses during the Week 6 Dedication Night dance had they continued in the competition.
Armstrong revealed that he and Miller had already workshopped a nurse-centered routine based on the history of Florence Nightingale. In the 1850s, the Victorian-era nurse was known as “The Lady with the Lamp” during the Crimean War because she would check on wounded soldiers while holding a light in her hand, per the National Army Museum.
Of Miller’s now-scrapped DWTS dance, Armstrong told People it would have been “really special.”
“We were going to do this dance with this little light thing that people were holding and invite other nurses to come in,” he shared.
“I was really excited for that because I think sometimes life gets so glamorous and so fast,” the DWTS pro added. “But at the end of the day, the things that are important to you are your health and your family, and that’s what should be important to you. These people are making sure that those things stay around, your health and your family. So we wanted to dedicate it to the seams of society, the people that hold this all together.”

Miller’s plan to focus on nurses would have shown viewers a new side of her rarely addressed on reality TV. Before joining Bravo’s Summer House in 2020, Miller graduated from Chamberlain University College of Nursing, then worked as an ICU and travel nurse for years.
In early 2026, Miller told The Squeeze podcast that she experienced major “burnout” during COVID and decided to “take a break” from nursing to film her first season of Summer House in the summer of 2020. She returned to nursing afterwards, but things changed when patients started to recognize her from reality TV.
In 2024, Miller appeared on the It’s Me, Tinx podcast and admitted it bothered her to distract patients or their family members from critical situations. “I never want to take away or be a distraction as to what’s going on in the unit,” she said.
Miller has said she feels like she may be “done with bedside” care but has not ruled out a return to nursing at some point.
“I think there’s a purpose for me outside of bedside, still in the nursing world,” the DWTS alum said on The Squeeze. “I still love the education and everything.”
Dancing with the Stars’ Dedication Night airs Tuesday, Oct. 20 on ABC and Disney+, with next-day streaming on Hulu.

Aldi has announced its Thanksgiving 2026 meal deal and it includes everything you need to feed up to 10 people—including a 16-pound turkey—for under $39.
Aldi’s Thanksgiving dinner shopping list includes a 16-pound turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, cranberries, peas, carrots, celery, pumpkin pie ingredients, milk, and whipping cream, for less than $4 per person.
“Our goal is to make Thanksgiving shopping simple, affordable, and delicious, so families can spend less time chasing deals and more time enjoying the holiday with loved ones,” said Scott Patton, chief commercial officer at Aldi, in a press release. “This year we put together a classic, easy-to-compare feast at a price that only Aldi can offer.”
From Oct. 14 through Nov. 25, Aldi shoppers can purchase products to craft their Thanksgiving meal according to Aldi’s menu by looking for items clearly marked with an Aldi turkey logo on store shelves. New this year, customers can add the entire shopping list to their cart online for curbside pick-up or delivery. You might be recounting a stressful moment from your workday while your partner nods distractedly, their thumb rapidly scrolling through a social media feed. Or perhaps the moment you enter a room, your partner reflexively tilts their phone screen away, shielding their notifications from view. While it can easily be brushed off as a harmless habit of the digital age, psychologists classify this subtle form of “micro-ignoring” as a significant red flag that can quietly destroy relational intimacy from the inside out.
Unlike a heated argument—which, despite its volatility, still signals that both partners are actively engaged in the interaction—screen-hiding communicates a profound withdrawal. It creates a dynamic where one partner feels invisible, secondary and dismissed. Over time, this passive form of rejection builds a wall of quiet resentment that is far harder to dismantle than the aftermath of a loud disagreement.

“It is beyond unhelpful for intimacy to leave the presence of your spouse feeling unwanted. What might be worse is being in the presence of your partner feeling unwanted,” licensed marriage and family therapist Kara Kays—who is also the owner of Gleam Therapy and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor—explained in that past Parade article.

“Smartphones give us access to endless amounts of information and people,” Kays stated. “If you’re feeling the need to hide your screen from your partner, or they’re hiding their screen from you, there is likely a reason.”
Even if there is nothing scandalous happening on the device, the physical act of turning the screen away triggers hyper-vigilance in the ignored partner, forcing them to question what is being kept from them.
Why ‘Phubbing’ Can Be Harder To Heal Than Active ConflictIn screaming matches, the issues are out in the open. Anger is loud, explicit and demands an immediate response. Micro-ignoring, by contrast, operates in the shadows of everyday routine. It is a slow leak in the foundation rather than a sudden fracture.
Because looking at a screen is so normalized in modern culture, the partner doing the snubbing often responds with defensiveness or minimization when confronted, saying things like, “I’m just checking an email,” or “I can hear you while I’m scrolling.” This invalidation leaves the hurt partner feeling as though they are overreacting to a minor issue, leading to a toxic cycle of silence.
When emotional bids for attention are repeatedly met with a screen rather than eye contact, partners stop trying to connect altogether. The relationship drifts into a state of roommate-like detachment, where genuine conversation is replaced by passive coexistence.

Ariel and Sebastian Take the SternOne of the sweetest traditions in the Disney Cruise Line fleet is the golden character sculpture adorning the stern of every vessel, giving each ship its own visual identity.
For Disney Imagination, the honor goes to Ariel from The Little Mermaid. In a whimsical tribute to her curious spirit and longing to explore the world, the sculpture will show Ariel alongside Sebastian and friends from under the sea, playfully carving out the ship’s name using her trusty “dinglehopper” fork.
Natacha Rafalski, President of Disney Signature Experiences, noted that the ship marks an exciting new chapter for both brands: “Today’s announcement of the Disney Imagination marks a significant milestone in the continued expansion of Disney Cruise Line and in our long-standing relationship with Oriental Land Group. We are honored to extend the magic of Disney cruising to fans in new markets and create opportunities for Japanese guests to experience a Disney vacation at sea.”

The reveal immediately sent the Disney cruise community into planning mode in the comments. Frequent cruisers were quick to add the trip to their travel goals, with one fan commenting, “Adding Japan to my bucket list! So excited!” while another wrote, “Looks like I’m going to Japan in 2029 as well. Let’s set sail 🚢✨” Others echoed the rush to pack, posting, “Our bags are packed!” and “Packing my suitcase as we speak.”

Patricia Altschul Has a Message for ‘Southern Charm’ Fans Who Think She ‘Married Rich Husbands
Patricia Altschul, considered the grande dame of Southern Charm, may give off the impression that she married rich and built her socialite status around her husbands, but she recently revealed that couldn’t be further from the truth.
In a new interview on Southern Charm costar Ryan Albert‘s podcast, You’re the Shift, Altschul said she has always worked, joking that men are “the most work.”
“I mean, it’s never mentioned; most people think that I didn’t do anything except marry rich husbands, but I’ve always worked,” she shared. “And as I just mentioned, men are the most work.”
She continued, “I would say that always goes unnoticed or that I have an excellent education and library. So I think a lot of people just think I’m a fluff bunny that landed on a reality TV show and had a couple of rich husbands.”
View this post on InstagramAltschul is one of the few cast members who has remained on Southern Charm since Season 1. Her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith, created the series and currently serves as an executive producer and cast member.
Despite her long-running role on the Bravo reality show, Altschul said she isn’t particularly concerned about what would happen if Southern Charm were canceled.
“If somebody asked me, ‘Oh dear, what will you do if Southern Charm gets canceled?’ I’ll just go on to the next thing, whatever it is, whatever presents itself, or whatever I make for myself,” Altschul said. “A lot of times you can’t just wait for something to happen to you. You have to make it happen.”
Still, Altschul isn’t ready to leave the Southern Charm world behind just yet.
“I still feel like there’s some more mischief to be had,” she said.
In the meantime, Altschul also had some blunt dating advice for women on and off the show about dating.
“I’ve had so many questions on how you get a man,” she said. “And I have a lot of stop answers, like don’t be accessible,” adding, “Make yourself interesting, have something to talk about, get busy.”

Just 15 seconds long, the trailer gives fans a look at the moment time stood still for viewers who didn’t know what to expect when the King of Pop took the stage at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
As video footage from the performance aired, text flashed across the screen. It read, “For the first time. The halftime show that revolutionized Super Bowl history. Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl. Premiers February on Hulu and Disney+.”
Rolling Stone reported that the documentary will feature Jackson preparing for the performance. Additionally, it will show just how influential his vision was years later.
The publication wrote, “Landing at Number 16 on Rolling Stone’s rankings of Super Bowl halftime shows, Jackson’s show opened with a voice-over introduction from James Earl Jones, after which the King of Pop was launched onto the stage via trapdoor. He then stood there, silent, for nearly two minutes, as the crowd cheered.”
The entertainer’s set list included the songs “Jam” (with an intro of “Why You Wanna Trip on Me”), “Billie Jean,” “Black or White,” “We Are the World,” and “Heal the World,” where he was joined by a choir featuring thousands of children from Los Angeles.
As the NFL prepares for Super Bowl LXI, this new look back at 1993 reminds viewers of the moment sports and pop culture collided. Viewers can catch Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl when it streams on Hulu and airs on ESPN in February 2027.

I’m Over 60 and Rarely Get Surprised by Cruises—Then I Took a President’s Cruise
I cruise a lot. I’ve sailed on multiple cruise lines, many different ships, and to destinations around the world, and to be honest, I’ve sailed with Celebrity Cruises enough times to reach Elite status in the Captain’s Club. So when I boarded Celebrity Xcel for the annual Celebrity Cruises President’s Cruise, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect.
I was wrong in the very best possible way.
The President’s Cruise isn’t simply a Celebrity cruise with a few extra cocktail parties and a let’s get dressed up and have a fancy dinner thrown in. This special cruise is a once-a-year celebration created specifically for Celebrity’s loyal guests, and let me tell you, they pull out all of the stops. There are special events, exclusive excursions, dinners, entertainment, and experiences that you won’t find on an ordinary sailing. More importantly, there’s a feeling throughout the cruise that you’re part of something very special. And it all begins before you even step on board the ship.

It All Began in AthensI flew into Athens two days before the cruise and stayed at the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne, right in the heart of the city. If you’re going to begin a special Mediterranean trip, this is certainly the way to do it. Celebrity had made all of the arrangements for their President’s Cruise guests that included surprises from the moment we landed at the Athens airport, and staying at this classic 5-star hotel was about to set the scene for an experience of a lifetime.

My pre-cruise stay included an extraordinary Benaki Museum experience with privileged access to a private collection that is rarely open to the public. I love experiences like this because they allow you to see a destination beyond the usual checklist of attractions.
Rather than simply saying, “I went to Athens and saw the sights,” I had an opportunity to get closer to its history, culture, and art. While the Benaki (which is housed in the magnificent Benakis mansion) is open to the public, we were privvy to collections that are rarely seen by the general public. As someone who actively seeks out museums when I travel, this is an opportunity that, for a museum buff, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
That evening, we headed to Dionysos Restaurant, where the setting almost competes with the food.
Almost.

Dinner came with an incredible view of the Acropolis, and world-class entertainment by the quartet Amadeus, who transformed the evening with their violins, cello, piano and amazing voices, and helped set the backdrop to an evening of Greek food, music, visuals, along with the entire Celebrity Cruises executive team interacting with guests. There are certain travel moments when you stop talking for a second, look around and think, “THIS is why I travel,” and this is certainly one of them.
Sitting in Athens at night with the illuminated Acropolis seemingly right there was one of those moments.
And the cruise hadn’t even started yet.
Not Your Typical Celebrity Xcel Sailing
Once aboard Celebrity Xcel, it became apparent very quickly that this wasn’t going to be a typical cruise. The President’s Cruise happens only once a year, and Celebrity creates special experiences specifically for the sailing.
That’s part of what makes it so much fun for loyal cruisers.
We know the ships.
We know what we love.
And yes, we love it when Celebrity shakes things up.

There were parties, shows, special dinners, and surprises throughout the sailing, but one of the things I appreciated most was something that couldn’t be put on a menu or printed in the daily schedule: all of the guests on board had opportunities to interact with members of Celebrity’s executive team.
For loyal guests, that matters. It gives passengers the chance to talk with the people making decisions about the ships, itineraries, and onboard experience. It also gives Celebrity’s executives the opportunity to hear directly from the people who spend a LOT of time aboard their ships.
That relationship between Celebrity and its repeat cruisers is really at the heart of the President’s Cruise.

Getting My Hands Dirty in Turkey
One of my favorite days was in Ephesus, Turkey, where I joined the President’s Cruise exclusive Artisans of Anatolia. Ceramic & Carpet Crafting excursion.
And this was not a “stand there and watch someone else make something” experience. We got involved.
I learned how to use a loom for weaving, tried my hand at a traditional kickwheel for pottery, and painted my own tile.
I have always loved meeting artisans when I travel because what they create tells you so much about the culture and history of a place. But actually sitting down and attempting these centuries-old crafts myself gave me an entirely different appreciation for the skill involved.
Watching an expert work a loom is one thing. Trying to do it yourself is quite another.
The same goes for pottery. Let’s just say there is a very good reason that master potters make it look easier than it actually is.

And painting my own tile gave me something even better than another souvenir from Turkey. I had something connected to an experience and a memory. Those are the things I want to bring home from my travels.
Of course, seeing all of the beautiful Turkish rugs and a belly dancer to end the day was just icing on the Turkish Delight.
Santorini, Swimming and a Sunset I Won’t Forget
Santorini delivered two completely different experiences during my trip.
First, I got to swim at the new Royal Beach Club in Santorini. There is something wonderfully decadent about spending part of a Mediterranean day simply swimming and enjoying the surroundings. Sometimes the best cruise excursion isn’t about seeing how many historic sites you can squeeze into six hours. Sometimes you just need to put on your swimsuit and enjoy Greece, and the Royal Beach Club allowed us to do just that.
Well, that, and a welcome to all by the President of Celebrity Cruises, Laura Hodges Bethge.
After getting in a little beach time and watching people horseback ride on the beach (thinking back, it’s something I should have done), we found an incredible array of Greek food and drink waiting for us. With a live group playing while we took in the balmy breezes and delicious food, this is a great way to experience what the Greek Isles are really about, and while Celebrity made it special for those of us on the President’s Cruise, it is also available to all passengers as an excursion for those visiting Santorini with Celebrity Cruises.
ORBut that evening was something else entirely. We were invited to the special Elite Plus event at the Santo Wines Winery for dinner, wine, and one of the most beautiful Santorini sunsets I’ve ever experienced.
Santorini has no shortage of places promising a beautiful sunset, but watching the sky change over the island with a glass of wine in hand and dinner ahead of us felt particularly special, especially as we stood on the cliffs, watching the water beneath with beautiful music and entertainment.
The combination of the setting, the wine, the food, and the company turned it into one of my favorite evenings of the cruise. It’s the kind of night that makes you understand why people become so obsessed with returning to the Greek islands.
A Taste of Malta With Celebrity’s PresidentMalta brought another experience that simply wouldn’t happen on an ordinary sailing. We were hosted by Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge for A Taste of Malta’s Countryside, which included learning to cook at a family farm, getting up close and personal with animals, and the beauty of the countryside of Malta that most people miss when they simply leave the ship in Valletta to explore the city.
Again, that is part of what makes the President’s Cruise so unusual. You aren’t simply seeing the destination. Celebrity’s leadership is there, experiencing parts of the journey alongside the guests.
We learned to make pastizzi, a delicious golden dough filled with either peas or rice that are as flaky as croissants and as delicious as can be.
I may not have been the BEST at making them, but it was a lot of fun (and I’m still hoping that the ones they served at our lunch were NOT the ones that I made, although by the looks of them they weren’t).
There’s something very different about chatting with company executives when everyone is away from offices and conference rooms and instead sharing food, exploring a destination, or simply enjoying the day together. It makes a very large cruise company feel surprisingly personal, and you come away knowing that they really care about passenger feedback.
A President’s Cruise Just Feels Different
Of course there were special touches to some of the experiences that you can have on Celebrity, like my favorite go-to coffee shop, Cafe al Bacio, which offered drinks in edible cups.
Captain Kirk put on an amazing concert (which he does every now and then). I had only met him as captain of the ship, and this was the first time I saw him in concert, and wow, that man can shred on a guitar. He can also SING and got the audience singing right along with him.
A fun cooking competition where three guest finalists got to compete that was judged members of the executive team and the executive chef.
A performance by the internationally acclaimed Los Vivancos, an all-male flamenco troupe.
There’s also Swag. Lots and LOTS of Swag. And it’s not the swag that you want to toss because you already have it; it’s Swag that not only reminds you long after you’ve come home that you have probably had one of the best cruises of your life. It’s the swag you’ll use again and again and again. And there is so much that you may need an extra backpack or tote (which of course, they gave us) to bring it all home in.
I’ve cruised enough to know that luxury isn’t always about having the fanciest room or ordering the most expensive bottle of wine. Sometimes luxury is access.
It’s being invited somewhere that is rarely open to the public. It’s sitting down with an artisan and learning a craft that has been passed down through generations. It’s sharing an excursion with the president of the cruise line. It’s a private event at a winery as the sun goes down over Santorini.
It’s walking into an event aboard a ship you already know and discovering that Celebrity has created something completely new for this particular group of passengers. And sometimes it’s simply feeling recognized for your loyalty. That may be what Celebrity Cruises understands best about the President’s Cruise.
These passengers have chosen Celebrity again and again. Many have spent hundreds of nights aboard Celebrity ships. They know the crew, the restaurants, the ships and, in many cases, one another. The President’s Cruise feels a little like Celebrity throwing a giant annual party for that extended family.
Only this particular family reunion happens to involve the Mediterranean, Santorini sunsets, Greek wine, Turkish artisans, and a very beautiful ship.
Is the Celebrity President’s Cruise Worth It?
If you’re already a Celebrity cruiser and you’re wondering whether the President’s Cruise is really that different, my answer after experiencing it is a resounding yes.
You could certainly book another sailing on the same ship and enjoy Celebrity’s restaurants, entertainment, service, and destinations. I have many times. But that’s not really what you’re paying for when you choose the President’s Cruise.
You’re choosing the extras. The special events. The exclusive shore experiences. The surprises. The access to Celebrity executives. The opportunity to spend a week surrounded by other people who love cruising as much as you do. And, perhaps most importantly, you’re getting a version of Celebrity that exists for only one sailing each year.
Once it’s over, it’s over.
And About Next Year…Now for the part that has me particularly interested.
I heard a rumor while onboard that next year’s President’s Cruise will be sailing from my home port of Fort Lauderdale aboard the refurbished Celebrity Reflection in May.
Fort Lauderdale is my home port, and Reflection happens to be one of my favorite Celebrity ships. The idea of seeing what Celebrity could do with a newly refurbished Reflection for its biggest loyalty celebration of the year? Well, let’s just say they wouldn’t have to twist my arm very hard to get me onboard.
After experiencing this year’s President’s Cruise, I finally understand why loyal Celebrity cruisers get so excited about this particular sailing. Celebrity could simply host a cocktail reception, hand everyone a glass of Champagne, and call it a loyalty celebration.
They don’t.
Instead, for one cruise each year, they take the experience several steps further. From exclusive cultural experiences and private dinners to special entertainment, destination events, and access to the people running the company, the President’s Cruise is designed to thank the people who keep coming back.
And after Athens, Santorini, Ephesus, Malta, Celebrity Xcel, and more food and wine than I probably care to admit?
I’d say they throw one heck of a thank-you party.

2 Haribo Candies Once Only Available Overseas Are Now in U.S. Stores
Haribo quietly dropped two new fruit-inspired candies in the U.S. back-to-back, and they both look just like international offers that fans have been hunting down for quite some time.
After opening its first U.S. plant in 2023, the iconic German confectionery company has made more treats more widely available than ever before, reinforcing that it’s not just a gummy bear brand but a source of sweet (and sour) innovation. Over the last three years, Haribo has been busy introducing all-new flavors, textures, seasonal offerings, limited-edition collaborations and internationally adored mixes to market, and it’s pacing to close out 2026 strong with two fruity additions: Haribo Bananas and Haribo Happy Cherries Sour.
Both new offers have been previously available in select international markets and they’re landing in the U.S. just in time to satisfy some of the hottest consumer trends right now: texture and experiential flavor.
Haribo Launches New Multi-Textured Banana Gummies and Brings Its Happy Cherries Sour to the U.S. for the First TimeAccording to an official description, Haribo Bananas “pack bold banana flavor into every bite” with an “anything but ordinary” texture that features a sweet, sugar-dusted crunchy shell and a soft, foam-like center with the “perfect chewy finish.” Reviewers call it a “dangerous” find.
“Oh these are dangerous!” influencer Snackolator wrote alongside a photo of the candies, joking that “Haribo has gone Bananas” with this new treat. “These have a really soft, marshmallow texture on [the] inside!”
“My husband and son love these,” a different Facebook user replied, noting they “have not been able to find them outside of Europe,” until now, anyway.
“If a circus peanut and a peep made a baby that was supposed to taste like the banana runts, this would be it,” a third shared. Their opinion, though, was apparently popular. Another social media user described it similarly, noting in a Reddit post that, since they like Peeps and Circus Peanuts, they liked these as well.
As for Haribo’s Happy Cherries Sour, the brand describes it as the classic cherry flavor fans know and love from its Original Happy Cherries with a “fresh-picked flavor” and “bold sour bite.” Consumers agree, with several from the U.S. and abroad commiserating in a Reddit thread from a few months ago about the trouble of tracking down their sweet-and-sour fave, which was once much harder to find.
Another called it the “perfect treat.”
“The texture is [a] tough bouncy gummy that won’t stick in your teeth,” one more suggested. “And [they] are lightly sour but full of cherry flavor.”
Where Are Haribo Bananas and Happy Cherries Sour Available?The new Haribo Bananas first arrived at Dollar Tree stores a few months ago, but now the item appears to be undergoing an expanded rollout, as the new flavor is also available at Five Below stores (prices may vary).
Bags of Haribo Happy Cherries Sour have also started to pop up at Dollar Tree for about $1.25 each. Whether the treat will expand to other retailers remains unclear, but as we’ve seen in the past, it’s not unheard of.
