One scared and scruffy stray dog recently took shelter on the windowsill of a young family's home. He was too timid and fearful to let them get close, so they watched the sweet pup through their window and accidentally fell in love. What happened next is nothing short of an incredible example of what a little love can do.

Fitness influencer Jordan Syatt, his wife, and their two young girls fell head over heels for the little guy through the window. They left food, water, and a cozy bed for the rescue pup—whom they named Chewy—and he began to let his guard down.

A couple of days later, Chewy trusted them enough to go inside, take him to the vet, and gradually incorporate him into their everyday lives.

With no microchip and no one looking for the precious boy, Chewy became an official member of the family, where he gets endless walks, playtime with his human siblings and Golden Retriever brother Curtis, and most of all, love. It's evident in his very first grooming session that left him looking like a whole other dog!

How Dogs Choose Their People

Stray dogs who suddenly appear on your windowsill aren't there by chance. At least, that's not what I believe. They gravitate toward certain people based on a combination of the pups feeling safe, wanting to trust, and having a positive feeling or connection to calm energy.

Stray pups who are tired of surviving on their own seek out low-stress interactions that might include food, water, and a bed, just like Chewy received.

His story reminds me of Pluto, the Cocker Spaniel, who walked up to a gym and chose his new mom. Whether you believe in fate or not, it's an amazing responsibility to be chosen by a dog in need. You have the power to change their life.

If there's one thing the world needs to know about dogs with puppies, it's that she does not play about her babies. Dogs who have always been sweet as pie and easy to work with will absolutely try to take down anyone who gets too close without her permission, and I love that!

One German Shepherd mom recently had to show that she meant business, and she wasted no time. The one who got a little too close didn't do it on purpose (or at least, they weren't trying to upset her), and her reaction was extreme, immediate, and a little bit awesome:

Jassera Nichole is no stranger to raising puppies, but Nikki the German Shepherd really took things to a whole new level. She was not willing to let the other GSD, Rolie, near those pups. He's their father, too! She couldn't care less. Those are her babies, and no one else should be touching them!

They were still very young at that point: they're still in their whelping box/puppy pen. This video is a little bit of a throwback: now they're grown up, some of them have moved onto their forever homes, and they are allowed to have others within a 50-foot radius. Even dad!

German Shepherds Are Protective of Their Puppies

If you have a German Shepherd, whether she has puppies or not, you'll know that these dogs are extremely protective. They won't let anything threaten their loved ones. If it's their babies they're protecting, it's even scarier.

When a German Shepherd has puppies, you need to proceed with caution. In order to avoid a biting incident or just generally freaking them out, make sure you:

• Keep mama and her puppies in a quiet, low-traffic area.
• Offer her the chance to take a break and get out, but never force her to leave them.
• Approach their whelping box or pen slowly and calmly.
• If she looks uncomfortable or snaps, try again later.

You should avoid causing her unnecessary stress at all costs. Just ride it out: it'll only be a few months before she starts letting them venture out! Nikki the GSD even lets her baby daddy play with them now!

Service dogs are incredible, and they do so many essential jobs for the humans they work for. With their ability to see or smell things more acutely than humans, their life-changing care alerts people to issues well before any signs or symptoms can be seen by the human eye. On April 29, TikToker @kennedyst1djourney shared a video of a young lady named Kennedy and her service dog Kona. Kona appears to be a black-and-white Bernedoodle or another Poodle mix, and while he's incredibly cute, he's also hard at work. He's a service dog for Kennedy, who has Type 1 diabetes, and he's been trained specifically to keep Kennedy safe. 

In this video, we see exactly how Kona works when he detects a change in his human's blood sugar, before anyone else knows. Hovering close to his mom and Kennedy, the incredible service dog refuses to relax, standing totally focused and on guard while Kennedy checks her blood sugar. When the reading is confirmed by the finger poke, he stands to wag his tail—he was right again!

In the comments, people praised Kona for his incredible work alerting to the blood sugar change.

How Service Dogs Detect Blood Sugar Changes Before Humans Notice Symptoms 

Kona is such an incredible dog, and he's doing a very important job with his favorite human. It's really amazing what some pups can do, like Kona, who can detect a drop in blood sugar. But how exactly do they do that? Well, that's very interesting, too. 

According to the American Kennel Club, dogs trained as lifesaving diabetic alert dogs can detect chemical changes and alert someone to them. The club explains that dogs like Kona can smell subtle chemicals released when their human's blood sugar is either too high or too low. Humans don't have that ability, but a dog can detect that change in a person's sweat or breath. 

From there, the service dog does what we see Kona do in the video clip. They'll alert someone who knows what to watch for, like their human or a family member, using "specially trained behaviors, such as pawing, licking, vocalizing, or even fetching a blood glucose meter." 

These specially trained dogs can detect these changes, often much sooner than a wearable device can, or before their person feels any physical symptoms from a change in blood sugar. It's a literal lifesaver, and we're so thankful for Kona and other dogs like him doing this incredible work.

Ellie Mae had a very interesting afternoon. And her emotional support lemon was there for all of it.

This mischevious little pup accidentally got into a 10mg Vyvanse capsule—ADHD medication that humans take to focus. What it did to Ellie Mae? Made her extremely, intensely, almost cosmically aware of absolutely everything and nothing all at once. She was locked in like nobody’s business.

The TikTok shows Ellie Mae in what can only be described as a state of profound contemplation. She's sitting. Staring. Processing. Her eyes are locked on something invisible. Her body is still, almost in a meditative state. On the other hand, her mind appears to be operating at speeds previously unknown to canine neuroscience.

What to Do If Your Pet Accidentally Eats Medication

Ellie Mae's story has a happy ending because her human acted fast and monitored her behavior very carefully. But accidental medication ingestion is serious business and requires immediate action.

According to FHE Health, 66 percent of poison-related calls to pet hospitals each year involve human drugs. With nearly 50 percent of Americans taking at least one prescription medication, pets have plenty of opportunities to get into things they shouldn't—drugs included.

If you think your pet consumed some medication:

First thing is first, call a vet immediately. Contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control helpline right away. Time matters.There’s no time to second guess yourslef.

Try to figure out and identify what they ate. Try to determine the specific medication, dosage, and quantity consumed. If you don't know the exact amount, that's fine—but vets will definitely want to proceed with extra caution so always let them know as much as you know.

Follow professional guidance. If the medication poses a danger, your vet will most likely instruct you to bring your pet in to be seen immediately. They may use activated charcoal to induce vomiting and prevent further absorption of the drugs.

Monitor all vital signs. Watch breathing, heart rate, and behavior closely while getting help. Ellie Mae's human checked her every hour—that attention and vigilance likely made all the difference.

Never try home remedies in this situation. Time is of the essence. Don't attempt to induce vomiting without the help of a veterinary professional. Internet remedies can make things exponentially worse.

Dogs are more likely than cats to eat medications (cats are pickier), but smaller pets face higher overdose risk due to their smaller stature. Your quick action can be the difference between a scary story with a happy ending and a terrible tragedy.

Prevention tips:

• Store all medications in secure containers on high shelves
• Take pills standing over a sink or counter, not near the floor
• Keep prescription bottles clearly labeled and don’t put meds in random bottles
• Never leave medications sitting out

Ellie Mae got very lucky. Her human caught what happened immediately, monitored her closely, and thankfully, Ellie Mae, recovered completely. But not every story ends with a dog pondering the universe with her support lemon and walking away unharmed.

If your pet gets into medication, act fast. Call your vet. And just maybe invest in an emotional support lemon, just in case.

At first, rescuers could barely tell what was covering the tiny kitten’s body. The 6-week-old cat was stiff, sticky, and almost completely coated in industrial-strength adhesive after somehow ending up trapped in a vat of glue.

But thanks to one good Samaritan and hours of careful rescue work, the tiny kitten now has a second chance and an unforgettable name: Elmer.

The heartbreaking rescue story was shared by CBS News and reported by ABC News after the kitten was brought to the Humane Society of North Texas, covered almost entirely in industrial glue.

Cassie Davidson, senior director of marketing, communications, and public relations for the Humane Society of North Texas, told ABC News that staff members immediately jumped into action the moment the kitten arrived.

“We immediately sprang into action. We didn't even ask questions. We were just like, ‘Let's go!’” Davidson recalled.

According to the report, four staff members worked for 7 hours straight, massaging nearly 2 gallons of canola oil into the kitten’s fur in an effort to safely break down the adhesive. During the rescue, they paused to feed the tiny kitten and eventually wrapped gauze around his body to help the oil continue soaking into the hardened glue.

Thankfully, much of the adhesive has now been removed.

The kitten was later named Elmer, which honestly feels like the only possible name after surviving something this bizarre.

Honestly, it's hard to imagine how frightened and uncomfortable such a tiny kitten must have been during the ordeal. But it's equally hard not to feel emotional seeing how quickly complete strangers rallied around him to help.

And the patience involved in sitting for 7 hours carefully working glue out of kitten fur, honestly, says everything about the people involved in animal rescue.

Mossy Cottage Maine Coons is the most perfect name for a cattery full of stunny, fairy-core kittens. As the caption suggests, this boy is made of soft cream and sunshine: both of them blend together to create this soft, yet still vibrant color.

His eyes kind of match: they're a little bit of a deeper brown color, but they pair so well with his coat. The entire litter of kittens he's part of is like this, too, though they're not quite as vibrant. Luckily, though, he loves them anyway, and they all love to play together.

This cat is about a year old, so he's not part of the same litter... And although he's literally massive, he's still a baby. He's still got at least 3 years left until he's full-grown. Maine Coons are so crazy to me.

TICA recognizes at least 80 coat variations when it comes to the Maine Coon, and more are constantly being presented. Some are more common than others, though, such as:

• Red (orange).
• Orange Tabby.
• Brown Tabby.
• Grey.
• Black.

Most variations are built off of those colors, like Black Smoke, which is slightly rarer and occurs with a genetic mutation in Black Maine Coons. You can also find Blue Smoke, Tortie, and just about any other color your heart desires if you look hard enough! I think my heart desires these butter yellow ones now, though!

While Ryder's over-the-top adorableness was completely eye-catching, the bright green casts on his legs are what made you stop and stare. “Ask for simple things your dog already knows, reward generously and keep sessions easy,” Wooten says. “This isn’t the time to drill obedience or focus on what the dog is doing wrong. It’s the time to remind them that interacting with you feels good.”

The sweet dog-cat friendship is so charming, especially during these legendary cuddle sessions.

It's amazing when some dogs become obsessed with their cat siblings. So why do some dogs like cats more than others?

A lot of their affection for cats is based on instinctive behavior.

Dogs, which are descendants of wolves, have always been interested in smaller animals.

Now, yes, they may see cats as prey, but they may also see them as playmates.

But even though dogs may see kitties as prey, because dogs are now domesticated and (hopefully) well fed, their cat siblings are more fun playmates.

Especially with the agility and sneakiness of cats, these kitties make for great and stimulating playmates.

But also remember that dogs are pack animals, and hopefully they look at cats as part of the pack and not intruders in their territory.

Clearly, Bennett, the Frenchie, views this beautiful Sphynx kitty as part of his pack!

Why Some Dogs Become Obsessed With Their Cat Siblings

Dogs and cats can also have strong emotional bonds if they are both properly socialized early on in their lives.

The fact that we see this cat remain calm even though Bennett is almost smothering her with love is a sign that she is fond of her canine companion.

According to Stephanie Gibeault, CPDT, certain dog breeds, such as the toy group and sporting group, are more likely to develop strong bonds with cats.

Clearly, this Frenchie is also part of that group!

As dogs get older, it's hard not to notice when their energy or spark starts to fade ever so slightly. The vibe shifts a bit, and everything feels a little quieter than before.

The TikTok video, shared by @cooperandmollygoldens, shows Cooper, a very beautiful older Golden Retriever, sitting on the couch with his tennis ball. Then, quickly, we see several other clips of the pup over time, each one with him sitting on the couch, eyes looking either really sleepy or sad. 

The video's caption reads: "Just get the second dog," and about halfway through, we meet Molly, a Golden Retriever puppy and Cooper's new little sister. And instantly, the clips we see in the video change the mood from sad to so full of energy. Cooper is having the best time of his life, even when the little puppy invades his space.

Now he has a playmate and a cuddle buddy, and people in the comments quickly fell in love with the two siblings. 

One person wrote, "I’ll never forget the joy my girl felt when we pulled Knox out of the backseat. They’ve been best friends ever since."

Another shared, "My mum's dog was so sad before we got my pup. Now he's as happy as a kid with candy."

Someone else added, "I got a second and somehow ended up with five."

How To Introduce a Puppy to Your Senior Dog

It really is so special to see how much happier the senior dog is with a new puppy to love and play with. If you're thinking of doing the same in your family, to get a younger pup when you have a senior dog at home, it's important to read up on some essential points you should consider first. Also, it might be good to check in with your senior dog's veterinarian, too, who might be able to weigh in on the potential. From there, introducing a puppy to your senior dog requires some planning, too, according to the experts. 

Whole Dog Journal says that introductions are vital if you want both dogs to be their happiest and healthiest, which is a given, obviously. There isn't a one-way checklist you can follow that'll work like a charm every time, but there are some pretty standard ideas. They explain that the overarching importance of introducing the dogs is to ensure both pups are at the forefront of their parents' minds. This includes ensuring they both feel safe, which is why they recommend introductions be conducted via see-through barriers rather than being held. This ensures both are safe, but it also allows them to move closer without being able to physically interact (yet), so they can get used to what they're seeing and their new sibling's scent, too. 

From there, Whole Dog Journal says pet parents need to remain patient and not rush the situation. When neither dog shows any negative body language cues, the pups can slowly have those barriers moved closer together and expect this to take days or weeks, not hours.

The slower the process goes, and the more you're really watching their body language, the smoother things will go when you're able to remove the barrier.

On a typical day, Elvis is the most adorable garden fairy who loves showing off his knitted hats, which serve two purposes: 1) They help stabilize his head enough to help him focus on a task (like weightlifting!), and 2) They make us all fall in love with his epic style!

Cerebellar hypoplasia affects the part of the brain that controls coordination and mobility, which can make cats walk with a wobble, but that doesn't mean they can't "practice" concentrating on their movements to get around and/or play.

Elvis and his tiny dumbbells show one way these incredible kitties can work on mobility with something they're already doing—playing! With enough traction to keep them safe, using training aids or toys can serve as physical therapy and help build their confidence. Even a simple feather wand is a good tool for ensuring they get enough exercise while strengthening their leg muscles.

CH can be mild or extreme, and some wobbly cats might need the help of a wheelchair or ramp to get around. Balance training—like setting up padded rails they can walk between—is another good way to encourage movement.

The nonprogressive condition might be frustrating for some kitties, but with a few lifestyle modifications and some sweet workout gear like Elvis', these cats can become unstoppable!

Some dogs and cats in shelters wait longer to be adopted than others. It can be due to age, health, or even size. In other cases, an animal may have a very traumatic past and is still trying to recover emotionally. The healing process takes time and often hinders a shelter dog or cat from showing their true personality.

Skippy the black cat waited over two years at the NAWS Humane Society in Illinois for someone to give him a chance at finding forever family — and then it finally happened.

The TikTok from @franflight shared Skippy's story, where the black cat was often passed over for adoption since he was emotionally closed off due to past trauma.

"Skippy continuously shut down at the shelter, which made him very hard to adopt," the onscreen text shared. "All he wanted to do with us was hide away."

Thankfully, a lovely couple opened their hearts to the feline fur baby and officially made him a member of their family.

"Skippy has waited 899 days to find his forever home," the story explained as the NAWS staff member lovingly held Skippy in her arms. "On his 900th day, someone finally saw him. Our sweet boy was finally going home."

Skippy Has a New Life

The feline fur baby settled into his new home and is now enjoying a life of love and security. The video featured clips of Skippy lounging in his cozy cat bed, playing with his feline brother, and pawing at a cat toy.

"Things are so different now that he found his patient and loving home," the text continued. "A home where he can be confident. A home where he has a big brother to help him grow his confidence. A home where he can finally be himself."

It is so, so easy to get annoyed with your pets. When they've stepped on your organs one too many times, or you're trying to do something that requires zero pets and suddenly there's still a pet in your face, it's just so hard not to get frustrated!

It's important to remember that they just want to be with you! There's really nothing else to it: we are their entire world. If you don't believe me, just look at this video. Moonbun and Fig are the cutest Ragdoll cats ever. Moonbun (government name: Moon Bunny) is the kitty in this video: she and her mom were having Girl Time in the bathroom. She's apparently never seen anyone do their hair before, because she was completely mesmerized.

She loved it. It seems like her favorite part was when her mom flipped her hair over: that's important for volume, but it's also important for kitty enrichment. I bet she would've loved to get her paws in it when her mom started flipping!

If you have a Ragdoll cat or you want to get one, you need to know that they're very high-maintenance when it comes to affection. Some cats love sitting in a corner by themselves... Not Ragdolls. They love to:

• Sit on you.

• Jump on you when you're in the middle of something.
• Sit and observe you.
