Most of the dogs I know clock in for work with a serious face. Marco reports for duty like the pasture just gave him a promotion and a birthday party.

In the video, Marco, the Livestock Guardian Dog, is hanging close to the horses, and there's no mistaking how happy he is to be there. He nudges one horse's nose like he's checking in with a coworker, then launches into big joyful circles. Not frantic or bossy. Just pure, fluffy job satisfaction.

Another person pointed out that Great Pyrenees types are often some of the purest, goofiest souls, which feels like the perfect description for him. Livestock Guardian Dogs can be serious workers, but Marco is a reminder that "serious job" and "absolute silly goose" can live in the same giant white body.

My dog is still new to farm life, but she is loving it. We don't have horses, but she loves the chickens, and I can already see how quickly animals can decide a new routine is their whole personality. Marco has clearly decided the horses are his friends, his workplace, and his emotional support coworkers. Honestly, if the chickens ever gave my dog this much attention, she would become unbearable.

Cowboy and Cactus did not need a long play session to make their first meeting memorable.

It started with a cautious sniff, and soon, two wagging tails followed. Cowboy, the little puppy, has already been through so much change, but meeting a gentle dog like Cactus will ensure he gains more confidence.

Cactus and his dad, Mike, have been fostering six puppies and their mother, Honey, for almost two weeks. Yesterday, Cactus had his first encounter with one of the puppies, Cowboy.

Cowboy, a Possible Foster Fail?

The clip of Cactus and Cowboy clocks in at less than 30 seconds, but the internet has already decided that these two should be together forever.

In the video, Mike approaches Cactus holding the small puppy and says, "Hey, Cactus. You want to meet a baby puppy?" Cactus leans in and sniffs Cowboy carefully as his tail starts to wag.

"Be nice, Cactus. Be nice. That's a puppy," Mike says at one point.

The comments noticed the chemistry between Cactus and Cowboy, hoping these two stay together.

One commenter said, "He's so gentle with him! I think he senses he's just a little baby and knows to be good and gentle." Another got straight to the point, "I think Cowboy should be a lil bro for Cactus. I think he is already your favorite."

And then there were funny comments like, "Cowboy & Cactus, starring in their all-dog western movie -- now that would be a movie worth seeing."

Cowboy and His Littermates Have Been Through a Lot

Cactus and his littermates are in foster care through Positive Beings, a Miami-based rescue organization. When the organization reached out, Mike didn't hesitate to volunteer.

In an earlier video, he explained, "When we got word from our friends at Positive Beings about a mama dog and her six puppies living in a run-down home with no proper medical care or clean place to stay, we knew we had to help."

The family arrived in rough shape. Mike bathed them, treated the flea infestation and gave each puppy a color-coded collar. That is how they got the names Scallop, Coral, Minnow, Scuba, Guppy and Cowboy. Mike named the mother, sweet as she is, Honey.

How to Introduce a Puppy to a Resident Dog

Cactus handled the first meeting as well as any dog could, but not every introduction goes that smoothly.

The most important factor in introducing puppies to an older dog is neutral territory. Bringing a new puppy directly into the resident dog's home puts the older dog on alert from the start. A front yard, a sidewalk or a nearby park gives neither dog the territorial advantage going in.

Start with scent before contact. Let the resident dog sniff a blanket or toy the puppy has already used to reduce the intensity of the meeting. By the time the puppy arrives in person, the older dog is already familiar with their scent.

Keep the session short, five to 10 minutes. Long introductions can overwhelm a calm dog. And don't let the puppy roam freely around the senior dog.

Finally, always give the resident dog an exit. If an older dog cannot walk away from an interaction on their own terms, that trapped feeling can quickly escalate to an unmanageable situation.

Where Cactus and Cowboy Go From Here

Cowboy and his littermates are still in foster care, but by looking at Mike's videos, it's clear Cowboy is his favorite.

The fans have already decided. As of now, the Western movie remains in pre-production. Will they remain together? Let's wait and see.

As you can imagine, there were a lot of comments about this sweet Dachshund having a lovely water day and his very cool crocodile life jacket.

"Gonna need one in size 190 cm. Don’t ask questions," one person wrote.

"The chin float needs to be patented!" another said.

Many commenters also wanted the life jacket for themselves (clearly it would need to be bigger).

It does look quite comfortable, as most life jackets don't have a place for you to recline your chin.

Do Dogs Need To Wear Life Jackets?

Though this makes for a very cute dog video, do all pups need life jackets?

The answer is: it depends.

For some smaller pups who aren't natural swimmers, like Dachshunds, life jackets allow them to enjoy the water when they otherwise probably couldn't.

However, for skilled swimmers like Golden Retrievers and Labradors, a life jacket may not be necessary, especially in a pool.

However, for long boat trips or even short ones where there's the chance of an emergency, investing in pet life jackets isn't a bad idea, as it could save your pet's life.

Cats are naturally drawn to warm places, and a sunny patch gives them an easy source of heat while they rest.

Why Do Cats Love Sunbathing?

In the video, Penny's mom says, "Penny, your sunbath is ready" as the cat stretches on the floor. Her mom jokingly writes in the caption, "Thank god, you kept me waiting."

Her behavior is more than a cute habit. Cats love warm places, and a sunny patch provides the heat they need while they rest. Cats also seek out warm places like laps, radiators, and recently occupied beds. Because they spend most of their day sleeping, they need a comfortable spot to help them stay warm.

Their sunbathing behavior traces back to wild ancestors who needed to preserve energy between hunts.

How Much Sun Is Too Much

Cats can regulate their temperature and will seek shade before they overheat. However, pet parents should keep an eye on elderly cats and dark-coated cats. They absorb heat faster than others.

If your indoor cat loves staying close to the windows, add a shared spot nearby as an option and make sure to keep fresh water available as well.

Penny has the arrangement figured out. As her "human butler" said in the video, the rooster's crow is her timer, and it will come back again in two hours. By that time, Penny needs to be out of the sun.

Otis is a stunning brindle English Mastiff. "Brindle" means he has stripes all over his body: in most cases, brindle is a coppery color, but it can really be anything. Not all English Mastiffs are brindle, though it is one of the most common coat colors.

Should You Train Mastiffs?

It's easy for dogs to find something in common with other dogs, and it's only a little more challenging for many of them to find common ground with cats (especially cats they've grown up with). What Makes Unlikely Animal Friendships Work?

We've all met dogs and cats who struggle to get along with other dogs and cats, and that's fine — some animals just prefer to be alone and unbothered. But then, there are dogs like this gal, who meet a totally different species and they just click.

According to The Conversation, research has shown that the reason behind why some inter-species friendships just work isn't totally understood, but it stands to reason that both animals need to have a few things going for them, personality wise.

For example, a dog would need to have been very well socialized from puppyhood to get along with a cow like this, and a cow would likely have to have a more nurturing personality to bond with a dog.

I have a Maine Coon, so I thought I knew what a big cat looked like. Then I met Loki.

This absolute mountain of a Maine Coon is so enormous that if I saw him strolling down my sidewalk, I'd probably assume someone's miniature black panther had escaped. As impressive as Loki looks on his neighborhood stroll, the best part of the video is actually his harness and leash. Even confident cats are safest exploring the outdoors under supervision. How Cats Adjust to a New Baby in the Home

When planning to introduce a cat and a newborn baby, one can only hope it goes as well as the greeting in this video. However, there are a few important things you can do to help make the adjustment to the baby as smooth as possible for your feline friend.

Before a baby comes home for the first time, help you cat acclimate their senses. Play videos of babies crying so they are used to the abrasive sound and bring something with the baby’s scent home first, such as a onesie or a blanket, for the cat to sniff. This can help your cat feel more comfortable and relaxed around the new baby. Additionally, make changes in the home early on. Any rooms that are going to be off-limits, like the nursery, should be blocked before the newborn arrives to prevent aggressive behaviors. Set up new baby furniture and toys long before the baby comes home so the cat is not surprised by these changes.

When the time comes to bring the newborn home and introduce them to the cat, always supervise, but remain calm. You don’t want to leave the cat and baby alone at first incase there is a negative reaction. Furthermore, remaining calm helps to reduce stress for your cat, making them feel more relaxed and open to the baby.

Throughout the ordeal of preparing to introduce a cat and newborn, reward your cat with treats to reinforce any positive behaviors associated with the baby. You cat should continue to have their own space to retreat to when they want to be away from the baby, such as a bedroom or closet where they feel comfortable and safe.

Remember that not all cats are the same, and you may have a different reaction when you introduce a newborn to a cat. Everyone hopes their cat is as good a boy as this gentle, orange boy!

Trev was not expecting this, and even more unexpectedly, there was actually another calf he didn't see at first. There are two Angus-Mini Highland cows running around! They both look exactly alike: black, fluffy, and absolutely teeny-tiny.

Someone in the comments wanted to know if this cow would be considered a "quarter pounder." Rude! He doesn't need to worry, though: he's a baby! He's got a long time left with his mom, and hopefully, he gets to move on and live a long and full life.

Losing weight is a challenge for most people and can be especially difficult for dogs. Canines need to stick to measured nutritious meals, exercise every day, and avoid treats and table scraps when trying to shed some pounds. While some pet lovers enjoy giving dogs extra food as a loving indulgence, it can actually hinder an overweight dog from achieving their weight-loss goal.

Bella is a street dog who was rescued last year by Niall Harbison, founder of the Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. She got essential medical care and treatment at the sanctuary for being dangerously overweight, but took some steps backward after returning to her neighborhood.

The Instagram post from @wearehappydoggo told Bella's story and described her medical condition when she arrived at Happy Doggo.

"She came to us last year severely obese and struggling to walk," the on-screen text read. "She was diagnosed with a thyroid condition but with 3 months of meds and care, she started her road to recovery."

After major improvements in her health, Bella returned to her neighborhood but soon got off track due to people overfeeding her.

"We sent her home with a strict routine, but living in a busy tourist area, people couldn’t resist feeding her," the caption explained. "Tourists thought they were being kind, but slipping her treats and missing her meds pushed her weight to 42.2kg [93 pounds] - the heaviest she’s ever been. Her joints are under immense pressure."

Bella Is Back on Track

The precious pooch is under Harbison's care once again with a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

"Bella is back in our care now," the story shared. "We’ve restarted her meds, put her on strictly measured diet food, and started low-impact exercises to protect her body while the weight comes off."

Photos of Bella eating small meals and swimming for gentle exercise showed how the canine cutie is working her way toward recovery. Harbison and his team are committed to helping her every step of the way.

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina, and a retirement village for senior dogs.

The Gross (But Common) Hidden Cause

There are plenty of reasons why your dog’s breath might smell a little fishy, but there’s one in particular that tends to get overlooked by most pet parents: anal gland issues. Yes, that's right: your dog's rear could be the reason behind their bad breath. 

As Dr. Nita Vasudevan, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance, points out, dogs can occasionally lick their rear end after expressing anal glands, which in turn introduces bacteria and an unpleasant odor in the mouth. 

Anal gland issues typically occur when soft scent sacs near the dog’s rear end don’t empty after each bowel movement. This may be due to a variety of reasons like soft stool, low fiber or small body size. You may also notice anal gland issues in your dog if you notice redness in the area or catch your pup excessively scooting or excessively licking that area.

3 More Reasons Your Dog's Breath Smells Like Fish 

While anal gland issues can be a hidden reason behind your dog’s fishy breath, there are other reasons you should consider as well. 

1. Dental Disease

One of the first places to check for the culprit behind your dog’s fishy breath is their mouth. Dr. Aliya McCullough, chief veterinary officer and director of veterinary affairs at Fetch Pet Insurance, explains that periodontal disease is one of the most common diseases in pets. This is when bacteria, or plaque, forms quickly in the mouth and causes the gums to recede, with bone loss around the roots of the teeth and significant pain. Fishy breath is one of the earliest signs of periodontal disease that pet parents tend to notice. 

2. Diet

It’s no surprise that food could be a cause of your dog’s stinky breath. Dr. Vasudevan points out that if your dog likes to eat foods with strong odors, that smell could linger in their mouths long after their last bite. Besides food, dogs may also experience gastrointestinal issues, which could also affect their breath. 

3. Underlying Medical Conditions

If you’ve already tried updating your pet’s diet and they have no signs of anal gland issues or dental disease, there could be another underlying medical issue causing your pup’s stinky breath. JoAnn Parente, co-founder of Dogs & Cats Rule, adds that serious health problems such as kidney disease or diabetes could potentially be the root cause of it all. Fishy breath, alongside symptoms like changes in appetite, thirst or energy levels, could indicate an underlying condition that can be diagnosed by a veterinary oral exam. 

The Fresh Breath Action Plan 

If you're concerned about your dog's bad breath, here are a few ways to get (and keep) their breath as fresh as possible.

Before you begin creating a regular dental routine, you want to ensure you rule out any underlying medical conditions and get any treated ASAP. To do that, visit your veterinarian to have them perform a dental exam on your dog. Dr. Vasudevan recommends visiting your dog’s vet to rule out tartar, gingivitis or dental disease, as they can perform a professional dental exam and cleaning.

Do a daily brushing.

Incorporating daily or weekly dental brushing is the easiest way you can ensure your dog’s dental hygiene. Dr. McCullough recommends starting slowly to make sure your dog gets used to the motion. Once they’ve gotten used to dental tools, spend about 15 seconds on each jaw quadrant. Dr. McCullough explains that daily brushing is the best routine to avoid tartar from hardening and building up. Once tartar has built up and hardens, it can only be removed by a professional cleaning. 

Add dental chews or water additives.

Although nothing can beat brushing, adding dental chews or water additives to your dog's routine can be a helpful addition to improve your dog’s breath. Parente mentions that VOHC-accepted dental chews, fresh water and, if your veterinarian recommends them, water additives are great ways to improve their hygiene, although they shouldn’t be viewed as substitutes for brushing. 

Keeping your dog’s breath fresh and minty is only partially about not wanting to deal with a fishy smell. A dog’s breath can give you a firsthand look into their well-being and health, even before other symptoms appear. Although it’s hard for a pet parent to diagnose dental disease without the help of a medical professional like a veterinarian, it is still important to check your dog’s mouth for red gums, broken teeth or trapped food that may cause minor problems. Once you have a handle on your dog's dental health, you may never have to flinch again when your dog wants to kiss you.

Dreaming of a cute fluffy dog, but worried about allergies? You're not the only one. The good news is, you may not have to choose between a furry family member and a sneeze-free home. A plush coat doesn’t automatically mean a dog will leave its hair everywhere. In fact, several fluffy dog breeds are known for being lower-shedding and may be better suited for some allergy-sensitive households.

Many of these furbbies are often considered “hypoallergenic,” but it’s important to understand what that really means as no dog is completely hypoallergenic. “People are allergic to proteins found in dander, saliva and urine, not just hair, so an individual person can still react to a low-shedding dog,” says veterinarian Dr. Sarah Wooten.

“Anyone with dog allergies should spend time with the individual dog, talk with their physician or allergist, and plan for regular grooming, bathing as appropriate, vacuuming, air filtration and keeping the dog out of the bedroom,” Wooten says.
