How To Care for a Pomapoo's Fluffy Coat

So how do you keep a Pomapoo's coat nice and healthy like Teddy's (so he also will look like he gave up drinking)?

First of all, for a little context, a Pomapoo is a crossbreed between a Pomeranian and a Toy Poodle or a Miniature Poodle, resulting in an absolutely adorable little pup.

They usually weigh between 5 and 14 pounds and are known for their teddy bear-like appearance due to their often very fluffy coat (which is handed down from the Pomeranian parent).

Now, not all Pomapoos have a naturally fluffy coat, as they may inherit more of the curly coat from the Poodle parent, which is also hypoallergenic.

If you do have a fluffy Pomapoo, though, you need to brush their hair very frequently and schedule grooming appointments about every six weeks, according to PetEducate.com.

They won't need frequent baths, but definitely every few weeks.

Due to their parents' different coats, there is a lot of variety in a Pomapoo's coat.

Their coat will also determine how much they shed.

But whether they take after the Poodle side or the Pom's side, you know they will be quite cute.

Had Erika Mendina actually made it home with this bobkitten, she definitely would have been in for a wild ride. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have noticed at first! Luckily, though, she figured it out quickly and made the executive decision not to put the kitten in her car.

Thank goodness. Most likely, Mama was nearby, and something tells me that Mama would not have liked that very much. I know there's nothing I would want less than a mad bobcat coming at me! So, she left him there and minded her business.

Unlike kittens, all baby bobcats look pretty much the same, so if you spot one, you'll know. The tell-tale signs that a "kitten" is actually a bobkitten are:

• Fluffy points on both ears.
• Striped markings down their body.
• A warm, orange-tan color.
• A short, bobbed tail.

The tail is the biggest thing. If you see a kitten without a tail, double-check to make sure they're not a bobkitten. If they are and they appear injured or look like they need help, you should call a wildlife rescue, but if they're just passing through, mind your business!

Both of my dogs love most foods, yet they have a certain obsession with burgers. In the TikTok from @zarathepit, the precious pooch's mom had a to-go box alongside some tubs of guacamole, tipping off that she was about to enjoy some Mexican food. Zara instantly smelled the delectable aroma and lingered nearby, putting her mom on guard.

"Are you gonna be a good girl?" Zara's mom asked as the pretty Pittie eyed the takeout container. "You're not going to eat Mommy's food?"

Zara gave her mom an innocent look as if to say, "Of course, I'll be good", and her mom bought it hook, line, and sinker. Most Cockatoos would never need a sweater at all, but that doesn't mean they can't wear them. If your Cockatoo is willing to wear a sweater, then you can put a sweater on them. However, there are some times a sweater might actually be recommended, like if:

• Your bird has experienced feather loss.
• Your bird is underweight.
• Your bird has a habit of feather-plucking.

They shouldn't be left in thick sweaters overnight or without supervision at all, since that's a big safety hazard, but a little time in a custom sweater won't hurt at all!

When I brought my puppy home three years ago, I swear, her paws hardly touched the ground for weeks. We were all in love with her and simply wanted her close to us at all times. These days, she's full-grown and still thinks she's a baby!

New Hope Animal Rescue Center definitely isn't used to seeing this. Most of the time, animals are brought into the shelter scared and upset, even if they're getting off the streets. It's unfamiliar, loud, and typically not very comforting.

For these puppies to be happy, and even sleeping soundly in their shelter kennel just hours after coming in... The situation they came from must have been very stressful.I'm happy they're still together for now, and they'll have safety for (hopefully) the rest of their lives.

• People think puppies have fewer bad habits.
• They think training will be easier.
• The puppies are still "plastic," meaning that you can mold them easier.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to adopt a puppy from a shelter. If a puppy fits well into your life, then you should get one! However, don't be afraid to look at the older dogs, too: it would mean the world to them to spend their last years in comfort!

In the TikTok from @humanebroward, Chickie playfully walked around her kennel with her tail wagging, showing her cheerful spirit. The canine cute was missing her front right leg, but that didn't stop her from getting around. Still, no adopters have shown any interest in Chickie.

Chickie is just 1 1/2 years old and has been at the shelter for over a month. Her leg was amputated due to a birth defect, yet she doesn't let that slow her down.

Rottweilers are some of my favorite dogs ever, mostly because they look like they could tear you apart, yet they're like bumblebees in dog form. All they want to do is run into stuff and figure things out!

Rottweilers were originally bred as a sort of multi-purpose farm dog: they could herd, pull carts, guard the livestock, and be great companions for humans all at once. As a result, they're:

Why Do Cats Sleep in Funny Poses?

Many of the comments on the Ragdoll cat sleeping position video featured other Ragdoll cat parents saying their kitties also sleep or nap in very funny and similar poses.

One wrote, "My Ragdoll does that all the time, too! A few of my other cats started copying him..."

So why do kitties sleep in such funny poses? Well, first of all, cats typically sleep 16 hours a day and more when they're older, so that provides a lot of time for different sleeping postures.

As for why they may choose a weird or funny way to position their bodies during naps, there are a few reasons.

• Cats are very flexible: Positions that may look uncomfortable to us are completely natural to them, as they can contort their spines in ways humans simply can't.
• Felines regulate their body temperature through their sleeping positions: To warm up, they may curl up, and to cool off, they may spread out with their bellies fully exposed, as Copper did in this video.
• Cats feel safe when they're sleeping: Copper here is sleeping on his back, belly exposed, which indicates he feels very secure.

Misty Mae is a saint for finding and helping them all when she had the chance. She's seen this cat before, and most of the times they've interacted had been for food. That's what she thought was going on this time, too, but... It was different.

How to Handle Stray Kittens

If you find kittens in your yard, it's only natural that you're probably going to want to keep them. They're so vulnerable, and the thought of bringing them to a shelter can be a little scary. You might even see a video like this and be like, "Well, if she can do it, why can't I?"

I love a mixed-breed cat. I think they're so cool, especially when they're verified: a lot of people claim they have a Maine Coon mix, for example, when their cat is just a little bit bigger and fluffier than others.

Neville the Bengal-Maine Coon is less than a year old, though you'd never know it by looking at him. He's not the fluffiest cat in the world, since his Bengal genes give him a long but sleek coat. Both Bengals and Maine Coons are absurdly long cats, though, which explains him.

In the TikTok from @peggyadamsarl, Buster was lying on his bed in his kennel. The sweetness in his eyes was immediately noticeable, yet it was the heart-shaped mark on his forehead that truly made him stand out.

Dogs are considered seniors at around age 7. These older pooches have so much love to give yet tend to linger in shelters. Many potential pet parents are drawn to puppies or small dogs, and consider senior dogs a risk due to possible health issues and shortened lifespan.

You know what you mean when you look your furry companion in the eyes and tell them you love them. But it’s easy to forget that animals speak a different language. As a result, saying “I love you” to your pet and having them actually understand you can be harder than it seems. So, if you've ever questioned how to tell your pet how much they mean to you in a way they can interpret, you're not alone. Tons of dog and cat parents wonder the same thing. The good news, is it's possible.

Pets often look for cues in body language and the tone of your voice to understand you, but they can also sense an environment that you’ve created, according to Molly Jespersen, training specialist at Camp Bow Wow. That means saying "I love you," may also involve more than just saying those words out loud.

Of course, you don’t need a special occasion to let your pet know how you feel. “Celebrate their small wins and good choices. Look for the moments where they bravely did something a tiny bit out of their comfort zone, or when they could have chosen to bark at the neighbor’s dog but they watched quietly instead,” says Amanda Farah, CPDT-KA, national training and behavior coordinator at Best Friends Animal Society. “Reward those moments as though they performed something heroic.” 

Making a point to notice when your pet does something right and praising it in a big way “is a great way to build good behaviors, and an even better way to say I love you,” Farah explains. By doing so you not only make your pet feel happy and cared for, but you also improve your bond with your dog or cat as well.

But what are the best ways to let your pet know how you really feel about them? Here’s what trainers want you to keep in mind.

Give Your Pet Slow Blinks

You may not know it, but one way you can tell your pets you love them is with your eyes. In fact, slow blinks are a big deal in the animal world and form of communication. Because of this, if your dog or cat is sitting next to you, this is a cute way you can let them know how much they mean to you in a way they can recognize. “They literally trust you enough to relax and close their eyes around you,” Farah says. “You can say it back by mirroring them.”

This is different from staring your pet down, of course. “In the animal world, a hard stare can signal a challenge or threat,” says Molly Jespersen, training specialist at Camp Bow Wow. “A slow, gentle blink does the opposite.” 

Respect Your Pet’s Personal Space

Just like people, pets sometimes need a little room to breathe. While it may not mean much to you do let you furbaby have some alone time, it can mean the world to them and be a way to say "I love you" without having to actually say it.

“Being able to leave an interaction freely is what makes them feel safe enough to stay,” Farah says. “If they’re always held a little too long, or followed when they walk away, they learn to avoid being close. Love means that your lap is never a trap.” Jespersen agrees, noting that respecting your pet’s space “is one of the most powerful ways to show love.” 

Learn Your Pet’s Love Language 

How pets understand love can be different from dog to do or cat to cat. That's why experts say it's important to pay attention to your pet so you can really understand what makes them feel good and appreciated.

“Individual animals have personalities and preferences,” Farah says. “For some dogs, play is their love language, and nothing will say ‘I love you’ more loudly than putting down your phone and playing with the tug rope.”

Cats are the same way, she says as some cats will want to sit near you but not on you. “The most loving thing you can do is try to see things from their perspective and ask yourself what your pet wants,” Farah says.

Speak in a Calm, Gentle Tone

Does you pet understand what you're saying? Well, while they may not know what every word means, the way you speak often matters more to pets than what you actually say, Jespersen says. "Pets respond to the emotional quality of your voice, not just the words,” she explains. “Your warm tone is music to their ears,” she adds. 

So, keep that in mind when you're wanting to express yourself to your puppy or kitten. That way they can feel warm and cozy when you speak to them.

Offer Enrichment Play Daily 

Another trainer-approved pet tip to grow your bond with your dog or cat involves interacting with them. “Play is one of the most powerful forms of enrichment,” Farah says. “It’s a stress reducer, a bond builder and also a fantastic check-up to see how their body is moving.” For most pets, play time with their person or their favorite animal friend is the highlight of their day, Farah adds. 

In fact, Jespersen calls enrichment “love in action,” listing off puzzle feeders, sniff walks and hide-and-seek games with treats as great examples of ways you can show your pet you love them.

Create a Calm Home Environment 

Noisy, stressful homes are tough on pets. It keeps them on edge, which can cause them to have trouble settling down, according to Farah. But a gentle, calm environment can allow your pet to feel at ease and it's a way to demonstrate you care for them.

 “A calm home with consistent routines, a safe resting space and low-stress interactions is one of the greatest gifts you can give your pet,” Jespersen says. 

Make Grooming a Bonding Activity

Every pet has a different attitude toward grooming, but many enjoy the act of being petted or gently touched. "For many dogs, gentle grooming mimics the social bonding behaviors they experience within their pack," Jespersen says.

You'll want to take cues from your pet and groom them from there. However, since dog and cat communication is different than yours is, if you're trying to think of other ways you can show them how adored they are and matter to you, pet trainers recommend it.

Sure, your pup is unlikely to do a big gesture to show how dependable they are. But you’ll find plenty of little moments that they sprinkle into the day to show how faithful they are to you.

Some of these may happen constantly, making it fair to miss the signs your pup keeps putting out. While some of these actions may feel random, they have a deliberate meaning behind them to show you that your little one is devoted. They Follow You Around 

If your dog follows you once, that’s one thing. But if they’re regularly tracking you from room to room and to the bathroom, they’re doing something that stretches beyond curiosity, according to Molly Jespersen, training specialist at Camp Bow Wow. “Dogs are pack animals whose sense of safety is organized around proximity to the individuals they trust most, and the person they consistently choose to stay near is the person they have designated as their most important relationship,” she says. “Following behavior is a dog's way of saying that being close to you is how they feel most secure in the world, and a dog who feels that way about you is one you can absolutely count on to show up for you in return.” 

So, if your pup does this, know its a sign your dog is as loyal pet and is trying to communicate that to you by not letting you out of their sight.

They Show Their Belly

One way your devoted dog shows they care is by letting them know they trust you. In fact, since a dog's belly is a vulnerable spot, that makes it an area of their body that they usually want to protect. However, if your pooch lays belly-up, it suggests that they feel confident and know there’s mutual trust between you, says Amanda Farah, CPDT-K, national training and behavior coordinator at Best Friends Animal Society.

Basically, if you see your furry companion in this position, they don’t feel threatened by you, they’re just comfortable because they know they have a strong bond with you.

They Make Eye Contact

You’ve probably heard in the past that you shouldn’t make eye contact with a dog for fear that they’ll view it as a threat. But dogs also make eye contact for a range of reasons, including communicating good vibes to their humans, Farah says. In fact, soft, relaxed eye contact is your dog’s way of saying they’re there for you, and know that the reverse is true. 

So the next time you see your pup lock eyes with you, remember its their way of speaking to you wthout words and letting you know you can depend on them.

They Lick You 

Not every dog is a licker. But in those who do, this can be an important gesture of affection and loyalty. “Licking is one of the earliest bonding behaviors in a dog's life, rooted in the way mother dogs care for their puppies,” Jespersen says. "When a dog extends that behavior toward a person, it carries relational significance.” 

Licking is a type of social grooming, signaling comfort, affection and trust. “It is the kind of behavior dogs reserve for the individuals they feel most connected to, and it reflects a relationship where your dog has decided that you are worth that level of closeness and care,” Jespersen says. “A dog who grooms you the way they would their own family is a dog who has fully claimed you as their person.”

They Sleep in Your Vicinity 

How dogs communicate can come down to where they choose to rest. While the right sleeping spot is crucial to a dog, it can also reveal how your dog feels about you.

“Where a dog chooses to sleep is one of the most honest reflections of who they trust, because sleep requires vulnerability and dogs are acutely aware of that,” Jespersen explains. “That choice is deliberate in a way that daytime behavior sometimes is not, because there is no reward or stimulation driving it.”

This also tells you how much they count on you, “and how willing they are to be counted on in return,” she says. It's basically a trait of a loyal dog.

They Lean Into You

Why does your dog lean on you? This has a similar sentiment to sleeping around you, Jespersen notes. “A dog who consistently chooses to rest near you, whether that means pressed against your legs on the couch or curled up on the floor beside your bed, is placing their most unguarded state in your company,” she says. 

Because of this, it's how to tell if your dog loves you and proof your dog is deeply attached to you. Dogs that show this behavior want to always be there for you.

They Seek Out Your Scent 

It can be annoying when you lose yet another sock to your pooch, but there’s a sweet reason why loyal dogs do this. “A dog who gravitates toward your worn clothing, pillows or anything that carries your scent is demonstrating one of the most biologically grounded expressions of attachment that exists in the canine world,” Jespersen says. “Scent is the primary way dogs process and store emotional information, and seeking out the smell of a specific person is something dogs do when that person's presence feels calming and important to them.”

This is your pooch’s way of keeping you close, even when you’re not around. So if you catch your furry family member doing this, your dog may be trying to tell you something, like they adore you, always want to be near you and are always thinking about you.
