In the world of small dog breeds, who look like mini teddy bears or kittens, many of these tiny tots are worthy of any "Cutest Puppy Ever" awards, but only a select few check all the boxes the way Star does.

Being a fraction of a typical Pomeranian's size means the cuteness overload factor is off the charts! She's too cute to be real, but she is, in fact, real and looking for a forever home. So, how much would a pretty princess like Star go for?

Though the "Teacup" category doesn't technically exist when it comes to little Pomeranians, these itty-bitty versions of an already small dog breed are born weighing less than a pound at birth and come in at an adorable 2 to 5 pounds and just 6 to 10 inches tall at the shoulder as adults.

It's common for these tiny tykes to level out by 12 months of age at around 3 pounds as full-grown pups, which is way too cute! Standard Poms can weigh up to about 7 pounds and can be slightly taller, but put them next to a miniature version like Star, and they look huge!

I can't even imagine what a dog that small would look like sprinting through the house, and for Star's fee, I guess I'll never know, so I'll live vicariously!

Persian cats are known for being expressive, sensitive little fluff clouds, and many really do dislike baths because of their dense coats and preference for staying clean on their own terms. Still, this particular reaction feels less like annoyance and more like a full theatrical monologue delivered by a ghost trapped inside an antique radio.

Meanwhile, my Maine Coon, Meatball, screams during grooming, too, but in a much less sophisticated way. Meatball sounds like a man yelling because the waiter forgot ranch dressing. This cat sounds like she’s performing a phantom opera in candlelight.

Cats can make wildly different vocal sounds depending on breed, facial structure, personality, and even stress levels. Persian cats, especially, can have softer, raspier, or more unusual-sounding meows because of their flat faces and shortened airways.

Niall Harbison shares stories of the many street dogs he saves and rehabilitates through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. He recently posted an update on Anthony, a dog who was homeless for most of his life and too afraid to let anyone near him. After spending time with Harbison and his dedicated team, Anthony now has a totally new leash on life.

The Instagram video from @wearehappydoggo opened with Anthony staring at the camera with a happy expression on his face and wagging his tail, yet this wasn't always the precious pooch's disposition.

"He spent his entire life on the street and had never known kindness," the onscreen text explained as previous clips of Anthony showed him fearfully snarling at anyone who approached him.

After all the trauma Anthony had experienced in his life, his reactions were out of self-defense. Thanks to the love and compassion from Harbison and the Happy Doggo team, Anthony started to slowly let his guard down.

"It took time, patience, and a lot of love to show him he was finally safe," the story continued as Anthony snuggled with a staff member.

Anthony Is a Retirement Village Resident

Harbison recently created the Golden Ticket Retirement Village, where senior street dogs can live out the rest of their days in comfort and style. They have shelter, cozy beds, medical care, nutritious food, and lots of furry friends to play with. Anthony is now one of the happy residents.

"Now he's the king of our retirement village, who loves to sing us a song every morning," the text noted, with scenes of Anthony playing and joyfully welcoming Happy Doggo team members.

As soon as Anthony felt safe and was no longer suffering, he was able to trust again.

"Once we fixed his pain, his real personality finally came out, and he’s officially the loudest (and silliest) resident in our retirement village," the caption shared, with the video concluding, "Proof that it's never too late for a new beginning."

Harbison launched Happy Doggo in 2021. In addition to the sterilization and daily feeding of thousands of street dogs, he recently opened a full-service medical clinic in honor of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina.

Noise aversion and separation anxiety are fear-related behavioral disorders that most dogs suffer from in one form or another. According to the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), dogs with noise aversion generally show fear responses to loud noises like fireworks, gunshots, thunder and traffic sounds, while dogs with separation anxiety typically show distress when left alone.

If your pet suffers from either one of these conditions, behaviors like vocalization, trembling, hiding, destruction of household items and inappropriate elimination (soiling inside) are all likely to be common symptoms. And while behavioral training can help eliminate symptoms over time, in many cases some sort of pharmacological intervention may be necessary.

What Is Tessie and How Does It Help Dogs With Anxiety?

Tasipimidine, sold under the brand name Tessie, is a medication that works by calming overactive “fight-or-flight” responses in the brain. It does this by targeting specific receptors that help reduce anxiety and fear linked to noise aversion and separation anxiety. Tessie can be taken orally roughly 1 hour before a predictable noise event or about 1 hour before an owner’s departure, and can be given up to 3 times in a 24 hour period with at least 3 hours between each dose.

Per the FDA, Tessie should not be taken with food due to delayed absorption, though a small treat can be used to help facilitate dosing should your pup be apprehensive to take the pill. In clinical studies supporting its approval, effectiveness for noise aversion was demonstrated in a study of 160 dogs, whereas effectiveness for separation anxiety was evaluated in an 8-week study of 224 dogs. After the results were analyzed, the FDA ultimately determined the product is safe and effective when used according to its labeling.

Side Effects and Safety Information

If you’re interested in learning more about Tessie and how it might benefit your pup, keep in mind that commonly reported adverse reactions include things like vomiting and lethargy in dogs treated for noise aversion, as well as vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy in dogs treated for separation anxiety. 

More specifically, studies in beagles showed dose-dependent, sedation-related effects, including decreased activity, ataxia and lateral recumbency, along with dose-dependent decreases in heart rate and blood pressure at higher doses. That said, these effects were all generally reversible between dosing intervals. 

As always, pet owners should seek advice from their veterinary professional to determine whether diagnosis and management of noise aversion and separation anxiety in their dog would be helpful. There's a world of solutions out there, if one doesn't work, there's always something else ready to make life more relaxing for our little fur babies.

Imagine being out on your routine daily walk and seeing something out of a nightmare.

That is what happened when a Connecticut woman was on her daily walk on a warm, sunny spring day. She noticed something strange on the ground nearby.

What first looked unusual quickly turned into a startling wildlife encounter when she realized she had come right next to a venomous Copperhead snake.

The chilling moment is described in this news report and will remind you that unexpected and dangerous animal encounters can happen almost anywhere, even in your backyard.

What To Do If You Spot a Venomous Snake

As described in the video, venomous snakes are rare in Connecticut, but sightings do occur of Copperhead snakes.

Krista McKim had seen snakes before on her walks around the West Hartford Reservoir, but never a venomous one.

Brian Hess, a Deep Wildlife Biologist, said in the video that it's somewhat typical for McKim to encounter the snake, though it was very rare to see it during the day, as they tend to come out only at dusk and dawn.

When McKim realized what she saw, she quickly turned around and changed her path.

This is exactly what she should have done.

Giving the snake space is always the first step.

Yes, it would be great to get a photo, but is it worth the risk?

Hess says venomous Copperhead snakes are relatively harmless, but you don't want to get too close, as they are wild animals.

Try to identify it from a distance, as McKim did. There are plenty of resources online and apps to help you do this.

What To Do if You Get Bitten by a Venomous Snake

Even though only about 15% of snakes worldwide and 20% in the U.S. can inject poison when they bite, you should always have a plan of action. 

If you do get bitten by a venomous snake, the first thing you want to do is get to antivenom as soon as possible.

In order to do this, you need to call 911 or your local emergency number, especially if the bite area changes color, swells, or becomes painful.

Emergency rooms will have antivenom drugs, which can help.

Also, be sure to:

• Move away from the snake immediately.
• Remain calm.
• Remove any jewelry, watches, or tight clothing at the site of the bite.
• Sit or lie down so that the bite area is in a comfortable position.
• Clean the bite area with soap and water.
• Cover or wrap the bite loosely with a dry bandage.

If you get bitten by a venomous snake, DO NOT:

• DON'T take pain relievers, including aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others), or naproxen sodium (Aleve), as they can increase your risk of bleeding.
• DON'T tie off the bite area (also called using a tourniquet) or apply ice.
• DON'T cut the bite and try to get the venom out yourself.
• DON'T try to catch the snake, but do try to identify it.

When we brought our rescue Pug mix home, our senior Dachshund was less than thrilled about having a new baby brother. Two puppies in the background played tug-of-war with a toy as Ricotta literally bounced around in front of him and even on him, trying to get his attention. Ricotta seemed immune to rejection and didn't take Winston's aloof attitude personally. Maybe she saw it as a personal challenge to keep throwing herself at him until he gave in and acknowledged her efforts. Finally, Winston walked away in the hopes of getting a moment of peace.

Bonding Between Dogs and Puppies Takes Time

While dogs are natural pack animals, your older canine may need time to adjust to having a puppy sibling. This bonding process depends on your dog's personality. If your pooch starts off neglecting the new puppy, it could take up to 5 weeks for a relationship to form. Dogs that are automatically friendly and welcoming acclimate more quickly and usually befriend the new pup within a week.

Start by having your two canines spend supervised time together. Don't force the relationship — let them sniff around each other and find their own way to interact. Just being in the same room will familiarize them with each other's scent and presence.

Separate the two if there are any signs of aggression or if playing gets too rough. Praise positive interactions and reward with treats. When both pooches seem ready, take them on walks together to reinforce the bonding process. With patience and time, your fur babies could become besties.

How to Keep Senior Dogs Active in Their Golden Years

What makes Baker's dance moves so special is understanding what senior dogs typically go through. Most dogs hit their golden years between 7 and 10, and that’s when things change.

According to Richey Animal Clinic, common signs of aging include reduced energy, graying around the muzzle (check—Baker's got that sugar face), stiffness after resting, and slower response timesin general.

Tiny the Sparrow, who is also a tiny Sparrow, has had enough of scavenging for fur to use in her nest. There's a never-ending supply living in her house, and rumor has it that the freshest stuff is the fluffiest!

Tiny is a rescue: they found her when she was just a little baby, and they weren't even sure she would make it out alive. However, with a ton of love and care, Tiny pulled through, and she's been living her best life ever since. She has lots of company, too: a Cockatiel sibling named Happy, and her Golden Retriever brother.

Tiny might be a common Sparrow that they rescued from the outdoors, but she was raised entirely inside. She has a cage and gets fed just like a normal pet bird would: she would not be able to survive in the wild at this point. Plus, there's a hawk in the neighborhood:

Yikes! So, yeah, she stays inside. When her mom says she's building a nest, she's doing it in her cage, where she'll be safe from all the big bad guys. The hawk literally has a feather stuck to his talon. Oof.

Is Dog Fur Good Nesting Material?

Obviously, Tiny is really into using Golden Retriever fur to build her nest. You might see this and think about leaving some of your own dog's fur out for the birds, but you need to be careful!

A dog's fur can make good nesting material for birds. It helps insulate the nest to keep the eggs warm while also providing a nice, fibrous structure to keep the nest together. However, it can also be harmful, especially if the fur has recently been:

• Treated for fleas/ticks with chemicals.
• Washed and conditioned.
• On the ground, to be soiled/potentially contaminated by pesticides.

If you know your dog's fur is clean and safe, you could try putting some out right when you see birds are most active around your yard. Or, if they're like Tiny, they'll just take it themselves!

Cane Corsos may not be known for being friendly to strangers — understatement of the year — but this giant breed is the definition of loyal when it comes to familiar faces and family. A social media-savvy Cane Corso named David (how cute is that?) was the perfect gentleman during a recent trip to Target when his favorite checker spotted him. Cue the cuteness. This Cane Corso is a charmer.

In a video shared to social media by David’s humans, the lovable Cane Corso can be seen entering the checkout line at his local Target. David clearly knows the drill: you come to Target for one thing, and you leave with a full cart.

However, this big dog also gets to leave his local Target with a full heart because his favorite checker greets him with such a warm welcome, it’s no wonder David is so happy during shopping trips.

“Where’s David?” the cheerful checker says as David and his family approach. David immediately ditches his cart duties and heads straight to the counter, props himself up, and showers the Target employee with affectionate hugs and scratches.

I've been in the Cavapoo mom's shoes, but it wasn't so smooth for my Corgi to adjust to our senior rescue Staffy. In fact, it's taken years for her to barely accept that he's not going anywhere. Even then, she's quick to correct him or guard her things.

It takes patience and time to help your dog adjust to a new sibling, and it's important to start slowly, having them first meet in a neutral place while supervised, to avoid one becoming territorial. You don't want to force interaction and keep them leashed.

Equally important, stick to your dog's usual routines. Also, give them plenty of praise and treats for good behavior around the newbie so they begin to associate the other dog with good things. It's normal for one or both to feel overwhelmed and overstimulated, so giving them separate spaces to escape (a bed, crate, room, etc.) is crucial.

Willow passed all these tests with flying colors. Coast is so lucky to have such a great big sister!

Golden Retrievers are awesome, but one thing those "best breed" lists often don't mention is the fact that they're also the biggest babies in the world. Percy the Golden Retriever is really something. People who haven't actually spent time around Golden Retrievers might not expect it, but these dogs have some of the biggest, loudest personalities around.

Percy has an attitude problem. Every night, when his mom turns off the lights and tells him it's time for bed, he starts going off. It's stressful! What if the neighbors are asleep?! Percy doesn't care, though: he wants to play! That's the only thing any Golden Retriever puppy wants, to be honest.

Field Golden Retrievers differ from standard or "show" Goldens because they were bred for the field, not for the ring. They're:

• A little bit leaner.
• Darker in color.
• Shorter-furred.
• Louder.

Show Goldens are often bred from lines with very specific, mild temperaments, while field Goldens are bred from good workers. It makes sense that they'd be a little crazier, though Percy really kicks it up a notch!

Yellow Labs are one of those breeds that seem to arrive in the world already halfway committed to loving somebody with their whole body. They're soft without being fragile, cheerful without being shallow, and when they bond, they really bond. That's why videos like this hit so hard. The footage shows the majestic white bear walking calmly through the thick forest. Its pale fur practically glows against all that dark green. No rush. Just coexisting peacefully in a place it's called home for thousands of years.

"Rich because I spotted the rarest bear on earth," the text explains.

Seeing one of these bears in real life isn't just highly unlikely—it's considered incredibly meaningful by the Indigenous communities who've been protecting these forests since the beginning.

The comments said it all:

That last one hits the nail on the proverbial head. For years, Indigenous groups like the Kitasoo/Xai'xais, Gitga'at, Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk), and Wuikinuxv kept Spirit bears a complete secret from the public to protect them from fur trappers. These bears mean everything to their culture—folk stories say they were created to remind people of the ice age and the brutal conditions their ancestors survived.

To some indigenous communities, Spirit bears represent peace and harmony. That's not just symbolism. That's actually sacred.

The Fascinating Genetic Fluke That Created the World's Rarest 'Ghost' Bear

Here's the wild part: Spirit bears aren't actually a separate species. Contrary to common assumption, they're not albino either. They're actually black bears.

No, really. They're official name is Kermode bears, and they're a rare type of black bear found only in coastal British Columbia. Most of them are black. But about 500 of them? Pure white. Well, creamy white with kind of a cinnamon tint.

So what's actually going on with these rare bears?

It's all about genetics. Spirit bears have a rare gene mutation that changes their fur color. But here's the thing—they need not one but two copies of that mutation to be white. Just one copy? They'll be all black. Which means two black parents can absolutely have a white cub if they both carry the hidden recessive gene.

Scientists think this mutation popped up during the last ice age when glaciers covered the earth. Coastal bears got separated from the other bear populations, and when animals are isolated in this way, unique traits can develop and become more common through interbreeding.

But wait—the lore gets even cooler. That white fur might actually be useful to the Spirit bear population. One study found that Spirit bears catch way more salmon than their black bear counterparts. The theory? Fish looking up from the water see a white bear against the bright sky and don't realize they're in any danger. Basically, Spirit bears have built-in camouflage that works from below.

Recent research just revealed something concerning though. Scientists did a massive DNA study across British Columbia's coastal forests and discovered that the Spirit bear gene is actually way rarer than anyone imagined—maybe half as common as previously believed.

Even more troubling: About half of the places where Spirit bears currently live aren't protected from logging and development.

Researchers are saying Canada needs to step up habitat protection and fast. Pacific salmon—the spirit bears' main food source—are becoming more scarce. Grizzly bears are moving into Spirit bear territory and pushing them out. Time is of the essence.

For the Indigenous communities who've protected these bears for generations, they're symbols of peace and cultural memory. For everyone else, they're a reminder that some of nature's most majestic creations can disappear if we're not careful.

That white bear walking through the forest? It's not just a rare sighting. It's absolutely irreplaceable.

According to Schott, people born in April "boldly move forward with action, determination, and natural leadership qualities." Therefore, the penguin is the perfect cute animal for April birthdays.

Penguins are extremely loyal, and they live in groups, having a strong sense of community, which also aligns with people born in April, as they tend to be outgoing.

May: Squirrel

People born in May have a restless energy, and Schott says, "They get distracted by the chatter of their mind and racing thoughts. Highly intelligent, they are natural communicators."

This is why May birthdays pair perfectly with squirrels, as they're constantly on the move. Think about when you see them in the wild. They never stay in one spot for long, and if you approach them, they quickly scurry away. They also have distinct personalities. According to Science Alert, "squirrels even have distinct personalities, which may even contribute to their survival. Those who are bolder (i.e. natural communicators), tend to fare better."

June: Turtle

People born in June are gentle souls, and Schott notes, "They use their natural shell to protect their soft, vulnerable, and sensitive interior," much like some animals do. They also like to be in the comfort of their own home and "feel things deeply."

Based on those characteristics, it's no surprise that turtles match June birthdays. These animals might have a hard outer shell to hide behind, but underneath that layer is a sweet, softer soul. They also move at a slower pace, but given how fast life moves these days, it's a welcome trait!

July: Guinea Pig

Those born in July are soft and vulnerable souls. Schott notes, "They feel things deeply and are known to be sensitive," and they can also be overprotective of people they love.

The cute animal that best matches July birthdays is the guinea pig, as they're super gentle but can also be a bit timid. According to Merck Veterinary Manual, guinea pigs are also affectionate and like living in groups.

Schott also notes of people born in July, "Once they trust you, they are loyal and fiercely protective."

August: Lion

August babies are "social, affectionate, and charming," according to Schott. She says, "They crave attention and need other people in their lives." They're natural leaders, and Schott notes, "When they walk into a room, everyone notices."

That's why it's no surprise that the lion perfectly aligns with those born in August. The lion is the king of the jungle for a reason -- as no one can forget their commanding presence. Despite their majestic stature, they still have such a cute appearance, though.

September: Dolphin

Based on that quality alone, they match best with the dolphin, who are known for being cooperative and helping others. There are even countless stories of dolphins helping humans in need.

So, what cute animal aligns with those who are strong? The otter, of course! Otters are resourceful and hardy, yet they do tend to have a playful way about them.

Case in point: this Ragdoll cat. Her coloring is rare, but it's also so strangely, perfectly split that she almost doesn't look real. It's like an angel hand-painted her before they sent her down to earth:

China the Chimera Ragdoll actually made my jaw drop. I love the caption, too: "What would her Warrior Cat name be?" She looks exactly like a Warrior Cat! There are other Chimera Ragdolls in the world, though they're few and far between, and none are quite like her.

What sets her apart is how dark the other side of her face is: it looks like someone drew a line and then colored her in. A lot of other Chimera cats will have little dots on their noses, but not her. Couple that with her neck fluff, and she's looking downright regal.

China is at least two years old, but her exact age hasn't been shared. According to her TikTok bio, she's a Seal Tortoiseshell Bicolor Point Ragdoll, which is a lot of different things going on at once. But you can legitimately see every single piece of it, even when she was a baby:

Can we take a moment for that cat tree, too? A gorgeous tree for a gorgeous girl. You can bet she gets treated like a total princess! With a face like that, how could anyone ever tell her no?!

Chimera Cats Are Rare Gems

Chimerism is the genetic mutation that causes this awesome split-face coloring. It's not just the face, though: you'll find similar splits on a Chimera's back, paws, and tail. In other videos of China, it's clear that she checks all of those boxes.

Chimerism is not more common in any one cat breed: it's rare across the board, and can technically occur in any cat. A lot of people claim they have Chimera cats (especially as a sales tactic), but the only way to actually verify that is through genetic testing. Ask to see proof before you buy, if that's your plan!

When you do get to see a true Chimera, though, it's so special. I can't wait to watch China continue to grow!
