Mini Dachshund Gently Rests His Head on Mom Before Falling Asleep—and It Says Everything
Having a dog in your life is one of the best experiences because when a pup loves, they love hard. They don't hesitate to share their affection, even if they have quiet ways of showing their trust and gestures that you're loved by them.
In this video, we meet a Mini Dachshund who makes it no secret how he feels about his mama. When it comes to nap time, he likes to put his head where he feels the safest, and the gentleness of the moment is so unbelievably sweet. Take a look!
@franklin.the.sausage.dogMy little bestie minidachshund miniaturedachshund dachshund dog
♬ Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby - Cigarettes After SexTikToker @frankin.the.sausage.dog shared a video of the cute Mini Dachshund, who looks like he's run out of energy and is more than ready to take a nap. And he knew exactly where he wanted to rest, and it's absolutely adorable.
Sitting with his mama on the couch, he cuddles up into her arms, and you can see him very slowly and gently moving to rest his head on his mom. He's adorable in general, but seeing his eyes look like they're smiling while he's drifting off to sleep, you can tell he knows how loved he is. The clip shows three different times Franklin cuddled up on his human in the same way, and how his cute head flops down, and it's just so precious.

In the comments, it didn't take long for everyone else to fall in love with Franklin, too.
One person wrote, "I'm watching this in bed with my little Doxxie pupper, and she's doing the same thing!"
Another shared, "Weiner dogs are the most affectionate dogs ever."
Other comments included, "This is so cute," "Aww," " Love," and a whole lot of heart and heart-eye emojis.

Why Dogs Sleep Close to Their Favorite Person and What It Says About Trust and AttachmentFranklin is such a sweet doggy, and you can tell how much he loves his mama, which makes total sense given how he peacefully drifted off to sleep.
According to MyWoof, dogs are pack animals, and they like to be in groups to feel bonded and safe. In the wild, like wolves, dogs sleep together for safety and comfort, so when a pup stays close to their favorite person during naps or sleep, that's them saying how much they trust and love that person.
This can be especially true if your dog is feeling anxious or stressed, or if they're not feeling well, because dogs feel better with their humans around.
Of course, if your pooch doesn't sleep next to you and they prefer to sleep by themselves, that doesn't mean they don't trust or love you. Some dogs, like people, just sleep better in a different setup, and that's OK, too.
Shelter's 'Longest Resident' Dog Goes From 'Urgent List to Forever Loved' and We're Crying
Some dogs in shelters get passed over by numerous potential pet parents. Whether adopters are hesitant about the canine's age, size, health, or breed, the unchosen precious pooch ends up waiting for what seems like an endless amount of time to be welcomed into a forever family.
Raven the Pit Bull mix pined for a home to call her own, yet remained at the shelter longer than any other rescue dog. Finally, she got her new leash on life.

"POV You are the shelter's longest resident dog and you just got adopted," the onscreen text read as Raven stuck her head out the car window and joyfully felt the wind on her face.
The video shared how Raven previously tried her best to make herself noticeable to potential adopters, but to no avail.
"For 3 months, Raven jumped in her kennel," the story continued as Raven literally hopped in the air from her small kennel run in the hopes of being seen. "Every day she begged for someone to choose her. But little does she know that the day has finally arrived."
Raven's Meet-and-Greet Turned Into Forever FamilyThe pretty Pittie had a meet-and-greet scheduled with potential adopters who came quite a distance for the face-to-face introduction.
"Someone just drove 3 hours to come and meet her," the text revealed, with clips of Raven getting to know her potential new mom and canine sibling. The friendly fur baby immediately won them over and they adopted her on the spot.

Raven made quite an impression on her new pet parents when they first saw her online. They immediately knew she had to become a part of their family.
Though the backseat of the car was already set up with blankets for Raven to have a cozy ride home, the canine cutie opted to sit right up front in her mom's arms with her head out the window.
"From Urgent List to Forever Loved," the caption shared. "Raven’s journey at the shelter to her freedom ride. Freedom looks so good on you!"
The social media post provided an update that featured clips of Raven — now named Beryl — in her forever home, playing with her sibling and rolling in the grass.
"We didn't understand why she waited 97 days, but now we do!" the video concluded. "It's because every day was leading her to them."

A Golden Retriever, a Baby and Tiny Kittens Star in the Cutest Scene Ever
When a golden retriever named Bailey met three tiny kittens for the first time, he didn't bark or pace. He simply lowered his head and watched. Next to him was Sofia, a curious baby reaching out to touch the new arrivals.
The kittens were barely bigger than Sofia's hands. However, that didn't stop her from reaching toward them with complete fascination.

With Bailey right beside her, calmly watching every movement, this scene is everything we love as pet parents. We have a breed known for its gentle character, a child learning empathy, and kittens that are finding their way into a new world.
The scene could have turned chaotic in seconds. Instead, it shows a rare moment that feels genuine.
Sofia and Bailey, the Celebrity DuoPeople watching the YouTube video loved the interactions among all parties. One commenter joked, saying, "Sofia to Bailey: 'Look Bailey, furry little toys that we can play with!' Lol."
But many agreed that this is as cute as it gets, with one person saying, "Bailey and Sofia and the kittens are all cute together."
Golden Retrievers, the Gentlest DogsBred to work closely with people, golden retrievers are one of the gentlest dogs. They read emotional situations perfectly.
But that doesn't mean they will automatically love kittens or babies. Temperament can vary, but with proper training, these dogs can become the best babysitters you can imagine.
Known for patience, mouth control and social awareness, Bailey showed all three traits in a single video.

The Golden Rule of First MeetingsBailey is a natural at meeting and befriending other animals. However, most dogs need strict boundaries and training.
The best advice is to provide kittens with a safe, elevated space that the dog cannot reach. This allows kittens to adjust to the dog's scent before any physical contact.
A Moment That Feels More than Just CuteFor a few seconds, this video shows trust happening in real time. A baby that learns gentleness. A dog that chooses patience. And young cats that navigate through a brand-new world.
What makes this video work is that there is no forced interaction. The kittens have room to move. Bailey keeps his distance. And Sofia reaches carefully instead of grabbing. One commenter captured it perfectly: "Baby Sofia loves Bailey and the kittens, Bailey loves Sofia and the kittens, they both think: 'We are a family.'"

Mom Gives Tarantula a Toy Wand—and He Turns Into a Fairy Princess
Recently, I've been really wanting a Tarantula. I just think they're the coolest little things ever, and I've always wanted one... But I was always a little unsure about it. Now, though, I think it's time to pull the trigger.
What sealed the deal? This. When one Tarantula was given a toy wand, his mom wasn't expecting him to like it or really interact with it at all. However, he ended up really loving it, and now he's turned into a little fairy princess:

His name is Terrence. He's pretty big, though it's hard to tell if he's full-grown or not. Even if he's not, he clearly has no trouble holding onto large items: a plastic fairy wand might not seem heavy to us, but to a Tarantula? Oof!

Terrence likes to have fun, and I love that he feels safe enough with his mom to do it. Sometimes, though, Terrence means business:

♬ MONOLITH - Melanie MartinezHe's a Curly Haired Tarantula, which explains why he's just about the fuzziest little guy I've ever seen. He's really good at this work-life balance: catch bugs, play with the wand, rinse, repeat. That's how life should be!
Do Tarantulas Need Toys?Keeping bugs as pets is interesting because there are just some things a lot of people wouldn't consider. For example, do they need toys? Can I pet them? What, really, is the point?

Tarantulas don't play in the same way other pets do, but they do need enrichment. Depending on your Tarantula, they either prefer to burrow or to climb. You can accommodate them by adding things to their enclosure, like:
- Different plants and branches.
- Differently-textured substrates in some areas, for a different digging experience.
That's really it, truly: these insects favor stability to avoid stress, and they really don't do very much. A comfy enclosure, regular meals, and the occasional fairy wand are perfect!

Former Lab Beagle Sees the Ocean for the First Time—Then Does Something Adorable
Beagles are one of those breeds who always look like they are about 5 seconds away from either solving a mystery or stealing your sandwich. They have those soft little faces, those giant emotional eyes, and an almost unfair ability to make every new experience look enormous. So when a Beagle who has already been through too much gets his first real taste of freedom by the ocean, it doesn't take much to completely ruin your day in the most beautiful way.
This is Blondie.
And yes, I'm emotional about him.
View this post on InstagramThe caption explains that 20 Beagles were driven from Ridglan Farms to New York City, and 5 of them later made their way to the Hamptons. Out of all of them, Blondie stood out because he was the most shut down. He was the one sitting alone in the yard, the one who looked like the world had already asked too much of him. Then this video happens, and suddenly he's at the shoreline, being held gently while his tiny feet start paddling in anticipation before he has even fully committed to the water.
That detail really gets you.
Because you can tell he wants this.
View this post on InstagramHe's a little apprehensive, sure, but the instinct is already there. His little feet are going. His body is trying to catch up with a moment his heart seems to understand before the rest of him does. And when he starts taking those first small steps into the seawater, it feels enormous. Not because it's flashy, but because it's not. It's one tiny dog, one edge of the ocean, and one very big new beginning.
One comment says, “I don’t mean to be dramatic, but I'm pretty sure this Ridglan footage is what’s keeping us a society going right now.” And honestly, I am not here to argue with that. My dog Lola is a rescue, too, and videos like this hit me every single time. There's something about watching a dog discover joy after fear that goes straight through your ribcage.
What makes Blondie’s moment so powerful is that it isn't just a “dog at the beach.” It's a former lab Beagle learning that the world can hold something gentle. Something fun. Something that doesn't ask anything from him except maybe one more brave little step.
That is why the clip lingers.
It's not the ocean, really.
It's what the ocean represents.
View this post on Instagram How Rescue Dogs Learn To Feel Safe in New PlacesBlondie’s beach moment is adorable, but it also shows something real about rescue dogs: Confidence often comes in tiny pieces first. The ASPCA recommends preparing a quiet, safe space for a newly adopted pet to decompress, because adjustment usually happens gradually, not all at once. Their adoption guidance also emphasizes that new pets need time, patience, and low-pressure experiences while they figure out a new world.
That's why a moment like Blondie’s matters so much. A hesitant step forward, a curious little paddle, a body that starts to loosen instead of brace—those are the real milestones. Some dogs run straight into joy. Others walk into it one tiny paw at a time.

This Everyday Cat Care Essential Is Making Litter Maintenance Less of a Chore
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
Keeping a clean home with cats is one of those ongoing responsibilities that never really stops. Anyone with pets knows litter maintenance is not just about convenience; it directly affects the overall comfort of your living space. Odor control, dust levels and how often you have to clean the box all play a role in how manageable your daily routine feels. When litter starts breaking down too fast, or smells begin lingering, it becomes noticeable immediately and can throw off the entire atmosphere of your home.
I've learned over time that consistency is everything when it comes to pet care. You want products that don't just work for a day or two but actually hold up throughout the week. Especially in multi-cat households, things can get overwhelming quickly if the litter can't keep up. That's why performance, cleanliness and ease of use matter more than flashy packaging or marketing claims. At the end of the day, you want something that works quietly in the background without constant upkeep.

Arm & Hammer Seal Slide and Clumping Cat Litter, $12.49 at TargetTarget
Shop It!That's where the Arm & Hammer Seal Slide and Clumping Cat Litter really stands out. Priced at $12.49, this feels like one of those practical household essentials that simplifies a task most pet owners deal with every single week.
One of the biggest selling points here is the odor control system. A seven-day odor-free home guarantee immediately grabs attention, especially if you've dealt with litter boxes that start smelling within a couple of days. The idea of maintaining freshness for longer periods without constant scooping or full litter changes makes a noticeable difference in everyday living. It helps keep the space more comfortable for both pets and people.
Related: This $8 IKEA Storage Bin Doubles as Decor—and It’s Almost Too Cute to Pass Up
Another feature that makes a big impact is the non-stick slide formula. Anyone who has dealt with traditional litter knows how frustrating it can be to scrape stuck waste. The slide technology makes cleanup easier, reducing the usual effort and making maintaining the litter box feel less like a chore. Combined with moisture-activated micro granules that form tight seals around waste and plant-based particles that create rock-hard clumps, the overall scooping process becomes much more efficient.
Dust control is another area where this litter performs well. Being 99.9 percent dust-free matters more than people realize, especially when pouring fresh litter or scooping daily. Less dust means cleaner air around the litter box area and less mess spreading across floors or nearby surfaces. For households that prefer a cleaner indoor environment, that detail alone can be a major improvement.
It's also designed to handle multi-cat households, which is important for pet owners who manage more than one cat. Strong clumping performance combined with odor control helps keep the litter box manageable even with heavier daily use. The balance between absorption, sealing and odor containment makes it feel like a reliable everyday option rather than something that requires constant monitoring.
For me, what stands out most is how much easier it makes routine maintenance. Pet care already comes with enough daily responsibilities, so anything that reduces effort while maintaining cleanliness is a win. This type of litter doesn't change the reality of owning cats, but it does make the experience noticeably more manageable, cleaner and less time-consuming over the long run.

From Sick Kitten to Spoiled King: One Rescue Cat's Incredible Five-Year Journey
When most people think of kittens, they think of playful little furballs with plenty of energy who will bring the house down.
Yet, for KitKat, a rescue cat, the first year was nothing like that. Looking at what he went through, his first year was more like a survival story than a happy life. During that time, he battled cat flu, underwent surgery on his nose, and had nearly all of his teeth removed.

One commenter said, "From shelter glass box to fat and spoilt in 5 years. That's the redemption arc we needed. KitKat understood the assignment."

Surviving Kitten FluCat flu can be a dangerous and devastating disease for young cats. Viruses such as feline herpesvirus and calicivirus can cause upper respiratory infections in cats. The symptoms begin with sneezing, runny eyes, mouth ulcers, and difficulty eating.
For young kittens, the disease can be harmful because they dehydrate quickly and struggle to breathe.
In some severe cases, kitten flu can permanently damage the eyes, mouth, teeth and nasal passages. Luckily, KitKat didn't experience any of those.
Somehow, despite everything he went through, he gets to enjoy his comfortable life. His mom explained in another comment, "He's also got all his teeth except canines removed as a kitten before I got him."
Five Years Later, KitKat Finally Looks at HomeThe best rescue transformations are not the dramatic medical recoveries. They are quiet moments that build slowly.
A cat sleeping belly-up without fear. KitKat's photo shows that change. He went from a cat trying to survive to a king of the house demanding attention every single day.
After what he went through as a young kitten, he earned every second of his new life. One commenter wrote, "Thank you for loving this cat so deeply. His contentedness radiates through the later pictures. I can almost feel the love."

Rescue Dog Reunites With the Famous Foster Mom Who Saved Him—And His Reaction Was the Ultimate Gift
Isabel Klee is known for working miracles with rescue dogs, fostering over 35 canines to date. The animal advocate gained internet fame while tending to Tiki, a rescue dog who had emotionally shut down due to his traumatic past. Klee’s earned a substantial TikTok following as Tiki flourished under her care and was adopted into a forever home.
Now promoting her best-selling memoir, Klee reunited with Tiki almost a year after his adoption and saw firsthand that she chose the right family for the precious pooch.

♬ Anyone Else - Diamonds And IceIn the TikTok from @simonsits, Klee was at a book event and explained how she was about to see Tiki for the first time since his adoption.
"It has been almost a year and I cannot believe how he has thrived in his new home," Klee shared as she waited to see the canine cutie. "Honestly, I got a little bit emotional thinking about how far he's come... but I'm just so excited to see him and I can't wait."
Klee opened the door for Tiki and his mom, clearly thrilled to see the sweet pup. Tiki was adorned in a leopard print sweater that matched his mom's pants.
The rescue dog was hesitant with Klee at first and stuck by his mom to feel more secure. Klee knew Tiki just needed some time and gave him plenty of space to get acclimated. Soon, he sniffed around the room to explore and approached Klee, who was able to give him some gentle pets.
Tiki was more relaxed as time went on, yet stayed close to his mother. She is obviously Tiki's "safe place", and their bond was visibly unbreakable.
Naturally, Tiki and his mom stayed for the book event and proudly supported Klee's success.
The Beautiful Heartbreak of Fostering: Why Tiki’s 'Unexpected' Reaction Is Actually Every Foster Parent’s DreamTiki spent most of the reunion next to his mom rather than Klee, which thrilled the famous foster mom. The fur baby clearly feels loved, safe, and cared for in his new family, confirming Klee's decision on his adopters. Followers noted how Tiki's response was evidence of his successful rehabilitation under Klee's care and her wise selection of his forever home.

Helpful Things To Consider Include:• Your home environment and schedule
• Compatibility with children or other pets
• Energy level and exercise needs
• Veterinary care and grooming costs
• Training and socialization needs
• Patience during adjustment periods
Many rescue dogs also need time to fully decompress and feel secure in a new environment. Experts often reference the “3 day, 3 week, 3 month” adjustment rule as dogs slowly settle into their new homes.

Senior Golden Retriever Who Never Had Toys Can’t Stop Showing off His New Treasures

♬ Pieces (Solo Piano Version) - Danilo Stankovic How Toys Help Rescue Dogs AdjustAdopting a dog from a shelter or rescue comes with an endless list of benefits, but it can also come with a few adjustment challenges. There's no way to know every pup's full history or traumas—and there will be an adjustment period with nearly every new pet—so all we can do is give them everything they need to feel safe, secure, and loved.
One way to do that is by offering toys like stuffies, which can help reduce their stress, build confidence, and keep boredom at bay. The mental stimulation alone makes plush stuffies golden, but these comfort items also bridge the gap between what your relationship is in the beginning and how strong the bond can become. It helps them open up and trust their new family while also being the stability they need.

This $7 Interactive Dog Toy Is Becoming a Go-To for Keeping Pets Mentally Stimulated
One thing I've learned as a dog owner is that keeping your dog mentally stimulated is just as important as physical activity. Anybody with a high-energy dog like myself knows that walks alone sometimes aren't enough. Dogs get bored, they get curious, and when they don't have something engaging to focus on, they'll absolutely find their own entertainment around the house. As someone who owns a giant schnauzer, I've learned quickly that intelligent dogs especially need activities that challenge them mentally throughout the day.
Pet owners have really started paying closer attention to enrichment toys lately, and honestly, it makes sense. Interactive dog toys have become one of the easiest ways to reduce boredom, encourage problem-solving, and create a more engaging indoor environment. Hide & Treat Dog Puzzle Game, $6.99 at Hobby LobbyHobby Lobby
That's why the Hide & Treat Dog Puzzle Game immediately caught my attention. For only $6.99, this interactive dog puzzle feels like one of those affordable pet finds that can genuinely improve your dog's daily routine without requiring a huge investment.
What makes these types of toys enjoyable is the combination of reward and curiosity. Dogs naturally love using their nose and instincts to search for treats, and puzzle games tap directly into that behavior. Instead of simply handing over snacks, interactive dog puzzles encourage pets to think, move and engage while earning their reward. It transforms snack time into an actual activity rather than just a quick moment.
Related: Target's Simple Wren House Is Turning Backyards Into Charming Bird-Friendly Retreats
The design itself keeps things simple while still feeling functional. The blue and green color combination gives it a playful appearance, and the overall size feels practical enough for indoor use without taking up excessive space. Measuring 10 inches wide and deep, it's compact enough to move around easily while still giving dogs enough room to interact comfortably with the puzzle sections.
One feature I genuinely appreciate is the focus on material safety. The puzzle game is made from 100 percent polypropylene, a safe material because dogs constantly use their mouths and noses during play. As pet owners, you always want reassurance that the products your dog interacts with daily are built with safety in mind. The added dishwasher-safe convenience also makes cleanup significantly easier after repeated treat sessions.
As someone who enjoys spoiling my dog while also making sure he stays mentally engaged, I like finding products that encourage interaction rather than just passive entertainment. Especially with intelligent breeds like giant schnauzers, boredom can set in quickly if they're not consistently stimulated. Toys like this help break up the day and give dogs an activity that feels rewarding and engaging.
The best part, honestly, might be the value. Pet products can get expensive very quickly, especially interactive toys and enrichment tools. Finding something affordable that still delivers entertainment, stimulation and functionality feels refreshing. At under $10, the Hide & Treat Dog Puzzle Game feels like one of those simple purchases that could easily become part of your dog's regular routine.

Eye-Catching Chihuahua Mix Seems To Have a 'Dog Body and Cat Head'
Hybrid dogs are very popular with pet parents, with certain crossbreeds becoming top picks as a family pet. Goldendoodles, Maltipoos, and Chuggles often top the list when looking to add a four-legged family member, while other mixed breeds are more rare.
Ravioli is a Chihuahua mix that turns heads wherever he goes, with many commenting on his unique appearance. His other genetic line is still a mystery and has some followers weighing in on his showstopping look.

Ravioli's small head looked disproportionate to his thick, broad neck and tall, bulky body. The Chi mix had a stocky physique, yet skinny, long legs.
"Someone said he had a dog body and a cat head," the onscreen text shared, with Ravioli's bio describing him as having a "potato body, tater tot head, french fry legs."
Previous posts revealed that people often inquire about Ravioli's head-turning appearance. Followers chimed in with their thoughts on his interesting features.
"I don’t ever think I’ve seen a Chihuahua Pitbull mix like this," one remarked.
"Very unusual. Very cute. Very box shape baby," another noted.
"That’s a giant Chihuahua," a follower commented.
"My childhood dog looked just like him… he was a Chihuahua Pug mix," someone shared.
"He looks like a bodybuilder," a fan posted.
Medium to Large-Sized Chihuahua Mixes That Aren't CommonChihuahuas are very small dogs and often bred with other canines of the same size class, like a Maltese, Pomeranian, or Poodle. Yet these little fur babies are sometimes mixed with dogs much larger than they are, making for an interesting combo.
The Chipit (Chihauhua-Pit Bull) has emerged over the years, resulting in a muscular dog with a playful personality. Then there's the Shepchi (Chihuahua-German Shepherd), which is somewhat of an odd mix and not considered in demand. Chi-Dobes (Chihuahua-Doberman) can resemble a Miniature Pinscher and weigh up to 60 pounds.

The most unlikely coupling may be the Chi-Dane-Dane (Chihuahua-Great Dane). Crossing these two physically contrasting breeds may seem impossible, but it's been done. These hybrids usually have a head shaped like a Greyhound, and can weigh up to 175 pounds.
Ravioli's followers didn't seem to care about his heritage, and all agreed he was totally adorable.

7 Trainer-Approved Phrases That Instantly Boost a Dog's Mood
Words matter—even when it comes to your pets. If you’ve ever wondered how to talk to your dog to cheer them up, you’re not alone. Many dog owners quietly ask questions like “What can I say to make my dog happy?” or “Do dogs really respond to human words?” The truth is, certain words can make your dog feel happy when they hear them and even make them do a full-body wiggle. To find out what those are, read on to discover 7 phrases a trainer says can instantly boost your dog’s mood.
Pet experts say that certain everyday phrases can spark noticeably positive reactions in dogs throughout the day and raise their spirits. From moments of excitement to calm attention or happy engagement, dogs often respond in ways that surprise even experienced owners. For many pet parents, simple changes in how they speak can make daily interactions feel more connected, more responsive and more rewarding.
So if you’ve ever researched things you can say to make dogs happier instantly, you’re in the right place. Below, you'll find simple phrases backed by a trainer that can improve your dog's mood, no matter if you have a big dog or small dog. They will not only bring your dog joy, but they will improve your communication and tighten your bond as well.

7 Phrases That Boost You Dog's Mood A dog in a happy mood after hearing a phrase it likes.Dog trainers often use simple, friendly phrases during everyday moments with dogs that improve a dog’s mood. The best part is, pet parents can use them to make their pup happy and joyful too.
1. "Dinner time"When it comes to phrases that instantly boost a dog’s mood, anything related to food is usually a winner. For most dogs, mealtime is one of the best parts of the day, so hearing this phrase often triggers immediate excitement and joyful anticipation.
“Saying ‘dinner time’ is a phrase which will nearly always lead to immediate reinforcement—a large food reward, and so is likely to trigger dopamine release in a dog,” Annie-Mae Levy, CFBA, professional dog trainer at Woofz explains.
2. "Go fetch"Other phrases that can instantly perk your dog up are those tied to their favorite activities. For dogs who love chasing balls or retrieving toys, words like “fetch,” “get it,” or “ball” can spark immediate excitement because they quickly learn to associate them with playtime and fun.
“For a dog that loves balls or retrieving items, more generally, ‘fetch,’ ‘get it,’ and ‘ball’ can all trigger a very happy response as the dog will be anticipating their favorite game,” Levy says. “Repetitive ball throwing boosts dopamine in a similar way that food can do, but remember to consider your dog's joint health before playing too much fetch.”
If your dog needs a lower-impact option, Levy suggests hiding balls for them to sniff out instead. Think of it as turning playtime into a gentle treasure hunt.
3. "Time for a walk"Honestly, you may not even need to say this phrase—just get the leash out and watch your dog's tail wag. Still, Levy says, "time for a walk" is one of those phrases that puts your dog in a good mood instantly if they've learned to associate it with fun and adventure.
"Saying ’time for a walk’ or ‘walkies’ might trigger tail wags and excitement from your dog as they know they’re about to go outside to sniff around and potentially see some other dogs," Levy reports.

4. "Want a treat?"One of the easiest ways to bring joy to your dog's life is by offering something they love—like a tasty snack. For many furry friends, simply hearing the word “treat” is enough to spark excitement and happy anticipation.
"Lots of dogs will recognize the word ’treat’ or some other marker if you have taught one to mean they are about to be given something especially tasty," Levy says. "This will trigger a good mood in any dog that enjoys its food, but might not do so in a lower food drive dog."
5. "Good dog"“Good dog” is one of the most common phrases owners use to reinforce positive behavior and show affection. It’s often paired with pets, praise, or treats, helping your dog understand that they’ve done something right and that you’re happy with them.
“Good boy” or “Good girl” are similar variations that many dogs quickly learn to associate with approval and positive attention.
“Most dogs will hear these phrases and feel a mood boost knowing that the humans are pleased with them,” Levy notes.
6. "Yes"Levy says she had to include this simple word among the phrases that can instantly boost a dog’s mood and it's great to use when dog training as well. For many dogs, “yes” becomes a powerful marker when it’s consistently linked to something positive happening next.
“If a dog is conditioned to a marker word that means food is coming, this word will trigger an instant surge of good feelings,” Levy states.
7. "I love you"If you want to make your dog feel good, this phrase can go a long way. Many dogs learn to associate “I love you” with gentle moments of affection, such as being petted, spoken to softly, or simply feeling safe with you.
“If you tend to tell your dog you love them at times when they are feeling calm, being stroked or receiving some sort of affection, then lots of dogs will recognize this phrase and respond positively to hearing it,” Levy says.
Why Dogs Respond So Strongly to the Words You UseDogs don’t just respond to the words/phrases you say—they respond to how you say them and what they’ve learned they mean over time.
Levy says that certain terms are likely to boost a dog's mood for one of two reasons. “It could be because this is a word they have learned to associate with good things, such as a treat coming, your own good mood, a walk or being stroked,” Levy explains. “The second reason dogs might like some words more than others and feel happier upon hearing them is due to the tone of voice you use when saying the words.”
Levy adds that dogs are highly sensitive to vocal tone, and are more likely to respond positively to high-pitched, animated, or “baby talk” speech. Dogs can also learn certain words and short phrases through repetition and context. “The more consistent certain words are with certain situations, the stronger this association will be,” Levy says.

According to her caregivers at Christine’s Critters, Aurora is a non-releasable Bald Eagle who was hit by a truck 11 years ago, which severely damaged her left wing and left her unable to fly. In 2024, she required a partial wing amputation to remove large, noncancerous tumors from that same wing, which is why she now lives permanently under expert human care.
But Aurora has adapted beautifully. She thrives in her role as an ambassador bird, and moments like this show just how comfortable and loved she is in her environment. The pool, the toys, the pure excitement all feel like part of a routine she genuinely enjoys.

Antisocial Corgi Goes to the Dog Park for the Funniest Reason
Not every dog is a fan of making new friends. Of my two dogs, my senior Staffy prefers to keep his social circle small, while my Corgi is the life of any party as long as she's the center of attention.
Brady is a senior Corgi who's somewhere in the middle, but this funny pup doesn't go to the dog park to play—he goes for one specific reason—and it's a little too relatable.
@bradygraffiti_corgisAnyone else go to the dog park and your dog just… ignores the dogs? Brady makes a beeline for the humans every time. He’s always been like this. But even more since losing Gdog 🥺. #dogpark #corgi
♬ Oui, oui, oui, oui - Sacha DistelBrady knows exactly what he's doing on these park trips. He may not feel like frolicking with the other pups, but it's because he'd rather seek out humans for attention, pets, and maybe even a treat or two. He's a smart boy to have figured out a system that works in his favor!
Related: Corgi’s Sweet Welcome Home Routine for Dad Is Something Every Dog Parent Should Try
In Brady's defense, being antisocial is a rite of passage. It means you've been there, done that, and aren't interested in proving anything to anyone!
It was only recently that the elder Corgi lost his younger brother, Graffiti, to cancer, so maybe he's just not ready for playtime just yet. Plus, soaking up time with his favorite people (Mom and Dad) beats a park trip any day.
@bradygraffiti_corgisThey’ll tell you dog moms aren’t real. But look at what we actually do. We advocate for them. We show up for them. We put them first. We grieve them the way you grieve someone who was yours. I published a new essay on Substack — for Dog Mom Day, Mother’s Day, and really for anyone who has ever loved a dog this way and felt like they had to explain it. The kind of love that doesn’t need a label to be real. The link to read it in our bio. Happy Dog Mom Day 💗 #dogmom #dogmomday #mothersday
♬ Beanie - Piano Version - Penguin Piano Socializing Your Antisocial DogLike Brady, not every dog is interested in hanging out with other canines, and that's OK! He was still a perfect gentleman, capable of being around other pups without causing problems. When in doubt, he knew to look for a human—something he's learned over time.
If you have a pup who lacks social decorum, experts suggest starting with your dog leashed, keeping a safe distance from dog park pooches, and offering high-value treats for good behavior.
Focus on gradually desensitizing them so they don't get overwhelmed and don't force it. This isn't something that changes right away, so be patient. You may need to keep the interaction brief and repeat, increasing the time with each park visit. It's all about building confidence and making sure your fur child respects others and doesn't react in a negative way toward dogs who just want to play with a new friend.
As for Brady, he's a pup after my own antisocial heart. He's so darn cute, he can do whatever he wants!

This Nosy Doodle Has One Very Strange Morning Routine
There is apparently no such thing as privacy when you live with a Doodle who believes every household activity requires direct supervision. One fluffy dog is making people laugh online after being caught peeking through the bathroom window every morning while the family gets ready for the day.
The funniest part is how genuinely proud he looks about the entire thing. Tail wagging happily behind him, the nosy little observer stares through the glass like he was personally assigned bathroom monitoring duties and intends to take the job very seriously.
@cmcv_97How do I explain this 😂😭 #relatable #funnyvideo #reaction #dogsofttiktok #funnydog
♬ original sound - DxceeTikTok user @cmcv_97 shared the funny clip with the caption, “When you forget to tell your boyfriend your dog likes to watch everyone through the bathroom window.”
The video shows the fluffy Doodle standing outside the bathroom window, staring directly inside while the boyfriend gets ready in front of the mirror, completely under canine supervision.
Related: Gray-and-White Cat Literally Climbs the Ceiling Like Spider-Man
Honestly, the dog doesn't even look sneaky about it. He looks deeply committed to quality control.
And somehow the aggressively cheerful tail wagging makes the entire thing even funnier because he genuinely seems thrilled to be included in bathroom activities from several feet away outside.
People in the Comments Immediately Lost It Over the Bizarre Little Routine:• “He was making sure the boyfriend wasn’t using his shampoo.”
• “Creepy and adorable at the same time, only a feat a dog can pull off.”
• “So a peeping pupper.”
• “Go on. Continue as you normally do. Pretend I’m not here.”
• “The tail wagging cracks me up, he’s so happy.”
• “The tail wagging through the window is great.”
Others became completely distracted trying to understand the logistics of how this dog even discovered the bathroom viewing area in the first place.
• “How did he get up there?”
• “How did he discover this viewpoint?”
• “Ma’am, put your dog on the phone. I have questions.”
Honestly, the dog really does have the energy of a tiny retired neighbor who monitors the street from behind lace curtains all day long.
Meanwhile, my Maine Coon, Meatball, also supervises bathroom routines, but from directly inside the bathroom, making uncomfortable eye contact the entire time.
Why Do Dogs Follow People Into the Bathroom?Related: Golden Retriever 'Helps' His Mom Use the Bathroom—but It’s Not Helpful at All
Dogs often follow their humans into bathrooms because they are naturally social animals who feel safest staying close to their families. Many dogs also become curious about closed doors or unusual routines and simply want to remain involved in whatever their people are doing.
Some Dogs May Also:• Follow humans out of affection
• Become curious about routines
• Seek attention or interaction
• Monitor family members protectively
• Enjoy being included in activities
• Associate bathrooms with consistent routines
And in this Doodle’s case, it appears bathroom supervision has officially become part of the morning schedule, whether anyone requested it or not.

Golden Retriever Cries for Sister During Vet Visit—Their Reunion Is Pure Emotion
Golden Retrievers are one of the most beloved dog breeds on earth, but they're also one of the most emotionally transparent. They don't know how to hide a feeling. If they are happy, everyone knows. If they are worried, the whole house knows. And if one of their favorite beings disappears for a day, they are not going to suddenly become mysterious and stoic about it. That is just not their brand.
This video proves it in about 10 seconds.
@daisythegoldieeLove and cuddles are the best medicine 🥹❤️
♬ original sound - Vids - AesiraIt starts on a home security camera with Maple in the living room, clearly upset and whining. The caption explains that this was the day Daisy went to the emergency vet, and Maple spent that time looking everywhere for her big sister. That detail alone is enough to get you, because the searching feels so familiar to anyone who has ever watched a bonded dog try to make sense of an absence.
You can tell Maple knows something is wrong.
Not in some abstract, dramatic movie way. In a very specific, very dog way of pacing through the space where life normally makes sense and finding one piece missing.
Maple isn't just vocalizing for attention. She looks unsettled. She looks like she's checking, listening, and trying to solve a problem she doesn't have the tools to solve. One commenter put it beautifully: “Dogs howl to help the ‘lost’ one find its way back to their home 🥹.” That isn't a scientific explanation, exactly, but emotionally it feels dead on.
View this post on InstagramAnd then Daisy comes home.
Cone on. Safe. Back where she belongs.
The second half of the video is the emotional release valve, because now Maple can stop searching and start being OK again. The reunion isn't huge and chaotic in a sitcom way. It's better than that. It's relief. The kind that softens your whole body when the thing you were afraid of suddenly ends.
That is why clips like this hit so hard. Yes, they are sad. But they're also proof of something lovely and enormous: These dogs are attached in a real, daily, embodied way. Daisy’s absence disrupted Maple’s world. Daisy’s return repaired it.
And maybe that's why this one lingers.
Not because it's heartbreaking, though it is.
Because it is heartbreak with a homecoming.
View this post on Instagram Why Dogs Get Anxious When Separated From Each OtherDogs often become deeply attached to the other animals in their home, especially when they share routines, sleep spaces, and daily companionship. When one dog suddenly disappears, even for something temporary like a vet visit, the pup left behind may show signs of stress, such as whining, pacing, searching, or howling. The AKC explains that lonely or anxious dogs may howl to request company or assistance.
So Maple’s reaction is not “too much.” It's exactly the kind of response you would expect from a bonded dog whose sister vanished from the normal rhythm of the day.
Some reunions are loud, some are wiggly, and some are just one worried heart finally settling back into place.

Long-Haired Pit Bull's Rare 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Mane Looks Photoshopped
With so many cool, calm, and collected dogs just walking around like they own the place, it takes a real presence to stop traffic. I'm talking about the most confident pups whose aura reads charismatic and self-assured without trying. Not many can pull off something so effortlessly.
King Theodore didn't earn his name by blending in. This long-haired Pit Bull and his epic, rare mane are giving Dog the Bounty Hunter energy all day long. Wait until you see this boy's long, flowing locks blowing in the wind!

This One State Was Just Ranked the Most Dog-Friendly Place to Travel
Traveling with your dog can feel like a balancing act—but one state is making it a whole lot easier. California just claimed the top spot for dog-friendly travel, offering pet parents more choice (and better stays) than anywhere else in the country.
According to research conducted by dog safety gate company Dog-G8, the Golden State offers 1,494 pet-friendly properties, with 1,185 rated four stars or higher—the highest number of top-rated stays in the country. Because when it comes to actually enjoying a trip with your dog, it’s not just about whether pets are allowed—it’s about how many options you have, and how good those options actually are.
Related: Golden Retriever Puppy Sees First Sunrise and Realizes How Big the World Is
"California is ranked the highest because it gives dog owners what they need most when traveling, choice. A high number of pet-friendly stays means owners are less likely to compromise on location, quality, or suitability, which can make a huge difference during busy summer months," says Chris Maxted, director of Dog-G8. And with over 3,200 total accommodations analyzed, California also gives travelers the widest range of choices, from sprawling oceanfront resorts to boutique urban properties.
To formulate their findings, Dog-G8 analyzed accommodation data from Tripadvisor across all US states, ranking each based on the number of pet-friendly properties, the number of pet-friendly properties rated four stars and above, and the total property availability.
Other states like Texas and Florida also ranked highly in Dog-G8's analysis, but California stood out for delivering both quantity and quality, which can make a big difference when traveling during peak seasons.
These matter more than ever, as more people plan trips with their pets in mind. In fact, a growing number of travelers now prioritize dog-friendly stays, and many say finding the right accommodations is one of the biggest challenges when booking a trip.

What Makes a State Dog-Friendly?When it comes to travel, a dog-friendly state needs to offer accommodations that combine availability, quality, and flexibility, making it easier for pet parents to plan trips without compromising on comfort or location. Easily accessible outdoor recreation (trails/parks) and canine-welcoming restaurants and shops should also be available. According to Visit California, "gorgeous weather, lots of wide-open spaces, and a relentlessly welcoming attitude [also] help make California one of the most pet-friendly states in the country."
As a Los Angeles resident and a dog mom, I can personally attest to the state's overwhelming dog-friendliness. I can take my doodle with me most places and enjoy endless outdoor options for keeping her (and me) entertained from morning till night. In fact, it's a rare event when I don't run into fellow four-legged friends at our local restaurants, shops, and the beach.
Ultimately, the most dog-friendly destinations are simply the ones that make travel easier. Continues Maxted, "Traveling with a dog takes more planning than a normal vacation. [People] have to think about safety, space, routine, and how their dog will cope in a new environment." Therefore, states offering safe, well-rated, and convenient places to stay and play are the most welcoming for our canine companions. Because when those bases are covered, both pets and their humans can actually relax and enjoy the trip.
