These 2 Heeler Dogs Perfectly Capture the Chaos of Having a Brother

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:55pm

Heelers are already one of the most sibling-coded dog breeds on earth. They're smart, fast, nosy, and just annoying enough to make sure nobody around them ever gets too comfortable. They don't simply exist near each other. They monitor, provoke, test limits, and generally act like they were put on this planet to keep household peace at a manageable zero. So when two Heeler brothers get on a boat, and one of them decides the best use of his time is to launch himself directly onto the other, it feels less like a surprise and more like a documentary.

This video is exactly that.

View this post on Instagram

We see the two brothers standing on the back of a boat, already looking like they're planning nonsense. The black Heeler jumps off first, and for one perfect beat, the red Heeler waits. That tiny pause is what makes it art. Then he goes straight in after him, practically on top of his poor brother, with a face that says he absolutely knew what he was doing and would like no follow-up questions at this time.

The whole thing is in slow motion, too, which somehow makes it even meaner and funnier.

You can really see the calculation.

The post plays it as a little brother problem, and honestly, yes. Boat season is apparently here, and so is the deeply specific irritation of having a sibling who can't just let a moment exist without body-checking it into comedy. One person in the comments basically said the red Heeler knew exactly what he was doing, and that's the only possible interpretation. There's nothing accidental about that jump. That was targeted chaos.

View this post on Instagram

I have three older brothers, so I recognized the energy immediately. The sly timing. The smug little pause. The full confidence that if you make life harder for your sibling in a funny enough way, it somehow becomes socially acceptable. The red Heeler absolutely has brother instincts. Strong ones.

And that's why the clip works.

It's not just two dogs being wild on a boat. It's a perfect little sibling dynamic caught in one move. One brother tries to exist. The other says absolutely not. The fact that they are Heelers just makes it sharper, because these dogs already come with the kind of intense, mischievous intelligence that turns every interaction into a tiny strategy game.

This one just happened to end with an airborne tackle.

Some families pass down recipes.

Some pass down a need to be a menace.

View this post on Instagram Why Heelers Play So Rough With Each Other

Heelers, or Australian Cattle Dogs, are high-drive working dogs, and that intensity doesn't just disappear because they are off the clock. The AKC describes them as alert, curious, and extremely intelligent, which helps explain why their play can look so physical, fast, and just a little bit personal.

That red Heeler didn't jump on his brother by accident. He saw an opportunity, honored the family tradition, and committed to being the problem.

10 Golden Retriever 'Secrets' Only Long-Time Owners Understand

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:44pm

As one of America’s most popular dog breeds, the golden retriever is a well-known dog that can’t help but bring a smile to anyone’s face. An active dog, the golden retriever isn’t a pup that enjoys just lounging around (well, sometimes). In fact, these dogs are known for their knack for getting into trouble because of their high energy levels.

Although there is plenty of information out there about golden retrievers to help you decide whether or not this is the right breed for you, there are some things that you won’t know until you’ve actually had a golden retriever in your home for a while. Like any dog, some special quirks and traits are just impossible to predict until you have this goofy and lovable breed under your own roof.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what kind of personality your golden retriever will have, there are a few ‘secrets’ from golden retriever parents that might give you an inside look at what you may expect from this loyal breed.

This isn't the type of information you can find in any informational pamphlet or on a website. These ‘secrets’ can only be learned after years of caring for a golden, and they can give potential pet parents a fair warning of what it's really like having this silly breed around.

Golden Retriever "Secrets" Revealed by Long-Time Owners

Here's what golden retriever pet parents think you should know about this beloved breed.

They Can Be Really Needy

Although this can apply to most breeds, golden retriever owners agree that this breed doesn’t enjoy being left alone. According to replies to this Reddit post, several owners have gotten used to their ‘shadows,’ which follow them from room to room. Get ready to say goodbye to your personal space!

You Will Meet Plenty of Strangers

Because golden retrievers are a widely loved breed, it's not uncommon to see a crowd surrounding any golden in sight. For prospective pet parents, be ready to answer all questions about your golden and get to meet your neighbors and strangers on every walk.

The Shedding Will Never End

While there are plenty of great grooming kits on the market, golden retrievers love to sprinkle their "golden glitter" in every room. Be ready to find fur in any and every crevice of your home.

They Can Never Have Enough Toy Balls

Golden retrievers love a good game of fetch, and we mean they LOVE it. Be ready to buy tennis balls in bulk because they will get lost or torn before the end of the day.

They Have Strong Chompers

Don't let their angelic faces fool you—golden retrievers love a good chomp. Whether it's your ankles, furniture, the floor, or even the wall, these puppies will try to take a bite out of everything. While they are meant to grow out of this phase, you might also have a lifelong chomper.

Goldens Love the Outdoors

It's all fun and games on walks until you come across a giant mud puddle. Not afraid of getting dirty, goldens will find a way to bathe themselves in mud just to finish off with a grass twirl.

They Love a Good Sock

No sock is safe when there is a golden retriever around. Be ready to find pairs missing or having to chase your golden around the living room with your sock hanging from their mouth. While no one knows exactly why, a love of socks is a well-known golden trait.

You Will Need to Be on Bathroom Alert

Until they are properly trained (if ever), golden retrievers have a few signs that it's time to get them outside STAT. Is the tail up? Time to potty. They start sniffing for more than a few seconds? Get them outside. They start wiggling their butt out of nowhere? You only have a few seconds left.

They Love Ice Cubes

You may think they're just another way to cool your drink, but for goldens, it's the ultimate treat. Water and a crunchy snack?! They are all for it.

They Will Love You No Matter What

While the same sentiment can be shared by humans of other dog breeds, all of the golden retriever parents agreed on one thing: they will give you unconditional love forever. Be ready to share your life with a fluffy goofball that loves you more than you can imagine.

How to Care for Senior Golden Retrievers

Angel Luciano/Unsplash

While the puppy stage involves a lot of training and patience, senior goldens are much more mellow and easygoing. Caring for a senior golden involves taking proactive approaches to their joint issues and health to ensure they remain healthy for years to come.

Once you notice your golden retriever is starting to slow down, it's time to invest in stairs or a ramp that can help alleviate their aching joints. Since they will no longer be able to jump onto furniture or your lap, you'll want to ensure they can still access their favorite spots safely.

In their advanced ages, this breed might start showing a variety of health problems, such as arthritis, vision loss and hearing loss. Ensure you are keeping up with their regular veterinary checks, as these appointments may unveil health problems before they become more serious.

Even as they slow down, you must keep goldens active. While they may no longer be able to walk as far or as fast as they once did, indoor puzzles or shorter strolls can keep them moving. Keeping them active and stimulated will help them feel better and help prevent cognitive decline.

Caring for a golden retriever of any age is hard work and requires plenty of patience. While there is undoubtedly going to be plenty of tough moments in your journey, you can be sure that it will pay off with this adorable breed.

Horse’s Gentle Goodbye to Senior Husky Before Her Final Farewell Has People in Tears

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:31pm

The hardest part about loving a pet is saying goodbye. For animals, saying goodbye to other animals can be just as heartbreaking.

Knowing it was nearing her time to say goodbye, a senior Husky named Bianca made sure to see all of her farm animal friends one last time, bidding each a heartbreaking but loving farewell.

Video of the sweet interaction was shared to social media, pulling at the heartstrings of viewers who know all too well the sorrow of realizing an animal’s life is coming to an end.

@prettycountryfarm

This sad day has come. My sweet 18.5 year old Husky Bianca is ready to cross over. Everyone is saying their goodbyes. We will always love you, you sweet perfect Angel. #alldogsgotoheaven #sayinggoodbye #weloveyou #heavenisreal #18yroldhusky

♬ Moment of Peace - vozes da natureza & Sons da Natureza & Nature in the world & sublime vocal

In a video shared to social media and liked by more than 8,000 people, Bianca can be seen being carted up to her horse buddy’s enclosure, giving the horse the opportunity to shower Bianca with loving licks and gentle nose snuggles.

Bianca’s health is clearly wavering, and she can barely respond to the horse’s sweet overtures, but it’s clear both Bianca and the horse know it’s time to say goodbye.

“This sad day has come,” shared Bianca’s family. “My sweet 18.5-year-old Husky Bianca is ready to cross over. Everyone is saying their goodbyes. We will always love you, you sweet perfect angel.”

“The horse knew,” responded an emotional follower. “Animals are amazing.”

Another reflected, “So precious this moment is... Bianca is beautiful.”

Do Animals Sense End of Life? @sciegsxzvap

Watching the horse’s interaction with Bianca, it’s natural to wonder whether the horse is truly aware that Bianca’s last days are near. Experts believe animals not only recognize when humans are dying, but may also sense when other animals are approaching the end of their lives.

However, there is no evidence that animals understand the concept of death itself. More likely, animals sense changes in another animal’s body language, scent, breathing patterns and body chemistry — all indicators that an animal is nearing the end of its life.

Here, the horse may not understand death, but it likely senses the physical and emotional changes Bianca is experiencing, as well as her shift in energy and demeanor.

That’s when another animal’s empathy can kick in. Animals have been known to howl or wail when a nearby animal passes away and will often gently nudge a dying human or animal.

Some animals may distance themselves from a dying companion. Not here, though. This Husky is being lovingly given a beautiful goodbye.

Rest easy, Bianca. You will be missed.

Why Do Dogs Love Peanut Butter So Much?

If you’re a fan of peanut butter yourself, it’s pretty easy to see why a dog would love it too. But the truth is, dogs don’t just love peanut butter because it tastes good. According to experts, they’re naturally drawn to it due in part to it being packed with protein and fat, something their bodies are wired to respond to.

On top of that, most store-bought peanut butter has some amount of sugar inside, which only makes it an even more enticing treat. Add to that its nutty scent, sticky texture and ability to elevate chew toys with a single spoonful, and it’s no wonder your furry friend can seemingly sense the jar being opened from the other side of the house.

If you’re making a TJ’s run this week, snag a bag before they disappear at the end of the season. They’ll only be around for the summer months, and we already know just how fleeting that can already be. Stock up if you have to and watch your pup’s eyes widen with joy once you break the seal and pull out the first treat.

Shelter Dog 'Having Trouble Getting Adopted' Wins Hearts Everywhere She Goes on Special Day Out

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:10pm

Many dogs in shelters get passed over for various reasons including age, energy level, health condition, and breed. Unfortunately, some pooches end up staying in shelters for extended periods of time, which can take a toll on their mental and physical health.

Stormy has been a resident at Best Friends Animal Society in New York City for quite some time. A shelter volunteer wanted to get her mingling, so he took her on a fun field trip and the canine cutie made a boatload of new friends.

"This dog is having trouble getting adopted, so I gave her the best day ever," the onscreen text read as they rode the subway, with Stormy covering her tour guide with kisses. "She's been in and out of shelters since she was a puppy, so I'm gonna take her on an adventure around NYC!"

As the young man chauffeured Stormy on his back, crowds literally gathered to meet the friendly fur baby. Stormy's sweetness and charm were irresistible to everyone who passed by.

The pooch was treated to some street food and made more friends along the way. Then it was time to explore Central Park before heading to a photo booth for some pics. Of course, they had to stop for a Pup Cup.

The caption revealed that Stormy's 'likes' are "giving kisses, being carried, snuggles, food of any kind, romping, and snuggles (again)." No dislikes were reported.

Great Danes Can Have a Variety of Coat Colors

This stunning pup is such a cutie with his coat that has an interesting pattern to it, and not what you might initially expect with a Great Dane. It might be surprising to learn that this dog breed can come in a variety of coat colors and patterns.

According to the Great Dane Club of Canada, Danes come in seven recognized colors, including solid and patterned varieties. This includes:

  • Fawn, which is a yellow body with a black mask on the face
  • Brindle, which is a golden coat with black stripes that looks like a tiger
  • Solid black
  • Solid blue, which looks more like a steel shade of gray
  • Harlequin, which is a white coat with torn black patches all over

Boston or Mantle color is a recognized pattern described by the Great Dane Club of Canada as "marked like a penguin," and these dogs must have a white tail tip to be considered Boston or Mantle.

Then there's merle, a pale gray to dark gray base coat with torn black patches, and the mantle merle, a white solid coat with a merle blanket that extends across the body.

Of course, thanks to genetics, you can have Great Danes who have slight variations from these, like a harlequin who has more black on their coat than typical or larger white spots, or brindles with no base color (like fawn).

This sweet puppy looks like he fits the harlequin pattern, and that's why he's so unique.

Nobody Expected This Siamese Cat To Sound Exactly Like a Haunted House

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 5:20pm

The sound coming from this Siamese cat doesn't sound remotely real.

It sounds like somebody slowly opening the world’s oldest haunted house door in the middle of a thunderstorm while a ghost watches from upstairs.

@zoethevet

I mean I actually thought it was the door for a hot second there 😭😭 #catlover #funnycat #catsoftiktok #vet #vetlife

♬ original sound - Dr Zoe the Vet

TikToker @zoethevet shared this hilarious clip showing a beautiful Siamese cat meowing right as a kennel door opens, and honestly, the sound is so bizarrely accurate that people immediately thought the squeak was coming from the door itself.

The caption perfectly explained the confusion:

“That’s the best da*n squeaky kennel door impression I have ever heard.”

Related: Deaf Cat Realizes His Mom Is Home, and the Sound He Makes Is Melting Hearts

And honestly? That may still be underselling it.

The caption continued:

“I mean, I actually thought it was the door for a hot second there.”

At Different Moments in the Clip:

• The kennel door opens.
• The Siamese cat meows.
• The sound perfectly matches a squeaky hinge.
• Everyone watching immediately loses their minds.
• The cat somehow remains deeply serious throughout the entire performance.

Commenters Immediately Began Pitching Hollywood Careers for the Dramatic Little Feline:

• “Name him WD40.”
• “That’s not a cat, that’s a haunted house.”
• “That cat is hired to be my squeaky door guy.”
• “You need to copyright that sound.”
• “He has a career in Hollywood!”

Honestly, the funniest part is that Siamese cats are already famous for being extremely vocal and dramatic, but this little guy somehow unlocked an entirely new genre of cat communication.

Meanwhile, my Orange Cat, Tarkus. occasionally screams like somebody accidentally stepped on an accordion (he has dementia), so honestly, kitties continue to prove they can make sounds no living creature should naturally produce.

Why Are Siamese Cats So Vocal? @bigmallyfitness

The sass is strong with this one. Does your cat talk back this much??#siamese #vocalcat #catsoftiktok #talkingcat #bluepointsiamese

♬ original sound - Thomas and Eric

Siamese kitties are known for being one of the most talkative and expressive cat breeds. They communicate frequently with humans using loud, dramatic, and highly distinctive vocalizations.

Siamese Cats May Vocalize To:

• Seek attention
• Express excitement
• Ask for food
• Respond to humans
• Show affection
• Comment dramatically on absolutely everything happening in the household

Many Siamese cats also develop unique-sounding meows that become instantly recognizable to their families.

And judging by this haunted little gentleman, at least one Siamese cat appears to have been raised inside an abandoned Victorian mansion.

11 Crucial Things to Know Before Owning a Giant Schnauzer (Especially #4)

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 2:33pm

The story of how I got my giant schnauzer is truly nothing but perfect timing. It was the summer of 2023, and I was probably the most depressed I had ever been. One Sunday while riding in the car with my then-boyfriend, I turned to him and said, "I think I want to get a puppy. Let's go play with some tomorrow."

After searching the pet stores online to see if there were any Black Russian terriers around (I had seen one a few weeks earlier and fell in love), there it was: A breed I had rarely seen or even heard of, but that looked nearly identical to the BRT—the giant schnauzer.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

For the sake of not making this story too long, I didn't end up getting that particular giant schnauzer because it just didn't feel right, but that same night, I went searching on the American Kennel Club's website to learn everything I could about the breed. Then, after using the AKC "Find a Puppy" option, I was able to find a reputable breeder in my area. And, by Thursday of that same week, I had my first giant schnauzer (and dog as an adult), Gambit.

While I absolutely consider Gambit, who is now 3 years old, to be my "angel dog"—or "Earth angel" as some folks call them—having him has been a complete rollercoaster. From initially feeling like a huge failure to practically making him my entire world and personality, Gambit made me fall in love with the giant schnauzer breed, and I honestly couldn't see my life without him at this point.

I'd tell anyone looking for a dog that the GS is the best out there, but before you decide to jump on the train, there are a few things you should know about the giant schnauzer breed first.

Things to Know Before Getting a Giant Schnauzer

Here are 11 important things to consider if you're thinking about getting a giant schnauzer.

1. No, They're Not Just a "Bigger Version of the Mini Schnauzer" View this post on Instagram

When I tell people I have a giant schnauzer, the common response is always, "I didn't know they made them in that size!" before immediately comparing it to a mini schnauzer they once owned or that a family member has. While they are very similar in looks—the standard cut for both includes pronounced eyebrows, a long beard and a "skirt"—they are totally different in temperament.

Minis are usually incredibly vocal, while giant schnauzers are a bit calmer and mostly only bark when needed. Mini schnauzers are also a bit feisty (IYKYK), while giants on the other hand offer up a more reserved personality, only showing their fun side to those close to them.

2. They Are the Definition of a Velcro Dog

Ni'Kesia Pannell

Before getting Gambit, I never thought I'd have a dog that had to be everywhere I was. Well, I learned very quickly that giant schnauzers (especially males) are really big Velcro dogs. To put it plainly, if Gambit could be in my skin, he would be. He genuinely has to be everywhere that I am and will come find me if I moved too fast without him or have stayed gone longer than 15-30 seconds.

Instead of getting annoyed or upset by this though, I learned to embrace it early and have literally taken Gambit every place that he could go. We are nearly inseparable, and it's so bad that the employees at our local Floor & Decor, Home Depot and T.J. Maxx all know him by name.

Related: 13 Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Florida (Where They Can Actually Run Off-Leash)

3. They Are Great Family Pets View this post on Instagram

When other people see big dogs, they tend to get scared and walk fast or pull their kids far away. And while I totally get it, one thing that people may be surprised to know is that giant schnauzers are actually amazing with kids.

Known to be natural protectors, the giant schnauzer—with early socialization and consistent training—will make sure that your family is safe and will give all of the affection you've been missing at the same time.

4. They Need a Job

Ni'Kesia Pannell

If there's one crucial thing you need to know about the giant schnauzer, it's that the breed falls under the Working Group category. What exactly does that mean? Well, by the AKC's definition, these types of dogs were "bred to assist man" and do amazing with jobs like being guard dogs, service dogs and even police/military dogs.

In particular, the giant schnauzer was bred in the 1800s to drive cattle and work as guard dogs for farmers and more. And, during World War II, the Air Force even used the breed as military working dogs!

While Gambit is neither of the above, I learned very quickly that he needed to have something to do or he would get very destructive and dismissive. So, I enrolled him in agility training, which is something they also excel at as a breed.

5. They Grow Super Fast

Ni'Kesia Pannell

Yes, this should be expected with a "giant" dog, but you really won't expect how quickly this breed grows. The standard height for the GS is as large as 27.5 inches for males and 25.5 inches for females. Weight-wise, they typically get up to about 95 pounds and 80 pounds, respectively. But just because this is the standard doesn't mean that this is where it stops. There are some giant schnauzers out there that weigh well over 120 pounds!

Initially, Gambit grew faster than I thought he would and literally outgrew everything I purchased for him within my second or third month of having him. By the time he was about nine months, he was practically full size. After two years staying at about 75 pounds though, in his third year after neutering him (we had no choice as his was cryptorchid), he gained 20 pounds, and he's still going! It goes to show that the standard size just depends on the dog.

Related: 5 Signs You’ve Found the Perfect Dog Sitter, According to Experts

6. They're Technically Not a Giant Breed

Ni'Kesia Pannell

Despite the word literally being in their name, the giant schnauzer is not part of the "giant" breed. Confused? Well, let me break it down.

While giant schnauzers are very large dogs, most are not the same size as the breeds that officially fall under the "giant" category. This includes pups like the Great Dane (as pictured above on the left), the Mastiff or even the Black Russian terrier. Instead, the "giant" part of the giant schnauzer comes from it being the largest version out of the three schnauzer types (there's also a standard schnauzer in addition to the GS and Mini).

7. Grooming Bills Add Up Quick View this post on Instagram

In order to preserve the "distinguished" look of a giant schnauzer, regular grooming is a requirement; not a suggestion. And while the breed is said to be hypoallergenic, if they are not groomed regularly and in the correct way, they can shed...a lot.

While you can groom them at home, if you don't start early, trying to get them on board when they've grown in size will make for a difficult (and painful) task. But, if you're taking them to a groomer (we use an AKC-certified groomer in our area to ensure the proper look for Gambit), then your GS should have an appointment every four to six weeks. And though there are cheap places out there that will cut your giant schnauzer, if you want it done right with hand-stripping or proper clipping, be prepared for a bill upward of $100 per month (our bill is about $120 for a set appointment once per month).

8. They're Big Goofballs View this post on Instagram

Yes, the giant schnauzer is the most serious schnauzer out of the breed, but that doesn't mean they don't know how to have a good time. Giants are known to love to play, be extremely energetic and love to wrestle. This can sometimes be to your detriment, as they often neglect to realize how big they are, and they may cause a pretty serious injury like a black eye, busted lip or even a concussion (yes, I know these things from experience).

Giant schnauzers are still in "puppyhood" up until they are about 3 or 4 years old, so make sure you're prepared for a bunch of funny times.

9. They Have No Idea What Personal Space Means View this post on Instagram

In addition to being Velcro dogs, giant schnauzers are the type of dogs who have to be right on top of you. Personal space? They don't know her.

Whether you're eating something, laying in bed or being their personal chauffeur, the giant schnauzer knows how to invade your space and make you feel like it's somehow your fault for not understanding the assignment.

10. They're Quick Learners View this post on Instagram

Along with being great protectors and extremely playful, giant schnauzers are ridiculously intelligent. They actually rank among the top in canine intelligence for the Working Group breeds. They learn commands easily, do incredibly well with complex problem-solving and know very quickly when things are not how they should be.

Gambit, for example, learned how to use his buttons around the house after about five times seeing me show him. He also knows how to open a door, how to spin and has been super impressive with his agility skills—even in his first few sessions.

11. They Can Be Very Stubborn View this post on Instagram

While having a highly intelligent dog seems like a great thing, there's also a con to that too. Giant schnauzers are sometimes too smart for their own good, and as a result, they can be very stubborn.

At times, they will test the boundaries you place and will intentionally ignore you if they simply just don't feel like doing what you ask. Giant schnauzers need consistent training and reinforcement, and they love to push the limits you set. And when their stubborn streak sets in, they'll shut down and nothing—other than positive reinforcement—will get them out of it.

So there you have it, folks. The good, the bad, the ugly and—most importantly—the beautiful sides of being privileged enough to be a parent to a giant schnauzer. Though they can definitely be a lot to handle at times, once you have the pleasure of calling one your own, you'll see why there's nothing better than this gentle (somewhat) giant.

Why Are Dachshunds So Popular?

Business Insidernamed the Dachshund the new "it dog." Their iconic look is a head turner and people can't get enough of them. Aside from being so cute and whimsical, the undeniable personality in a dachshund is what keeps people fully obsessed with them.

Colloquially known as "wiener dogs," dachshunds are silly, determined, loyal, and totally fearless. They're the definition of a big personality in a small package. Dachshunds are also very loving and affectionate and very much bond with their people, making them the perfect family dog.

On top of all of this, dachshunds are also super intelligent and love to learn new tricks. They make excellent watch dogs, are fairly adaptable and good in new environments, and they also typically get along well with other animals. They're a perfect dog to integrate into the pack.

Dachshunds are fairly consistently ranked as one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Being so cute and funny is the perfect recipe for a furry friend, and dachshunds make the top of the list for good reason.

This Cat Saw a Baby Stroller and Made a Decision Nobody Asked For

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 11:48am

You bought the stroller for the baby. The cat has noted this. However, the cat disagrees with your intended use.

This is a story as old as cats and household objects: something new arrives, and within 48 hours, it belongs to the cat.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

A stroller is no different. In fact, a stroller might be ideal for cats. Think of the features: it's soft, enclosed on the sides, slightly elevated and smells like the family. From your cat's perspective, this is simply a very good bed that someone left in the living room.

She considers herself a baby
by u/goddesssashax in aww Cats Don't Claim Spots Randomly

It might look like chaos, but there's logic to where a cat chooses to sleep and spend its time. They are highly territorial animals, and that territory isn't just physical space; it's a mental map of every surface, perch, and enclosed area in the home. They rank these spots by warmth, height, safety, and proximity to the people they're attached to.

The baby stroller hits several of those marks at once. It's enclosed enough to feel sheltered. It's soft. And crucially, it smells like the center of household activity. For a cat who has decided she is, in fact, the baby of the house, occupying the baby's stroller isn't a protest. It's a logical claim.

We've written about this kind of territorial reasoning before, most memorably when a cat claimed the top of a rock in a multi-pet household and refused to share it with a persistent lamb and an entirely unbothered dog. The dynamic is the same: the cat identifies a spot as hers, and the conversation is over. No negotiation. No exceptions.

What "the Baby of the House" Means to a Cat

Cats don't understand infant development or family hierarchy in the way humans do. What they do understand is routine, attention, and scent. When a new baby arrives, it disrupts all three. The baby gets more attention. The baby's things take up new space. The baby smells different and makes sounds the cat has never heard.

The people on the Reddit post had fun with it. One said, "I'm something of a baby myself," which is how most cats feel. Another added, "If is not for her why is it her sized."

Some cats respond to newborn babies by withdrawing. Others by inserting themselves directly into the baby's world, sleeping near the baby, following the parents during nighttime feeds, and yes, climbing into the stroller.

Simply put, the cat is trying to stay as close to the center of family life as possible rather than being pushed to the edges. This cat is not stealing anything. She's just refusing to be excluded from the family activities.

Clever Yorkshire Terrier Using Their Rottweiler Sibling as a Step Stool Is Peak Yorkie Behavior

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 11:41am

In every relationship there is a boss. And dog siblings are absolutely no exception to this rule.

User @angelalani11 took to social media to share her hilarious pair of dogs, a very patient Rottweiler and a very persistent Yorkshire Terrier. The little Yorkie is on a mission to oversee the neighborhood and they're using their Rottie sibling as the perfect seat and boost in order to do so.

@angelalani11

♬ My Dawg Lil Baby - ÇËØ.õf.Råp🎵

Yorkies are known for being big personality bundles in tiny packages, so it's no surprise this little pup is in charge of not only the house, but also their much bigger sibling. A common stereotype with Rotties is that they're super aggressive, but they can actually be very sweet and loyal and protective of their family.

Social media users got a kick out of the pair's dynamic saying:

"She's like stop moving so I can see damn!"

"I bet the Yorkie is the boss of the house."

"I love the size difference they just don't care lol"

How to Introduce Dogs to New Siblings

When introducing dogs to their new housemates, it's important to take your time and do things slowly but surely. Start by meeting somewhere neutral, not at home, like a park, sidewalk, or another outdoor space. Start by walking them together and after a few minutes let them sniff each other and say hello.

Once at home, remove things that can be seen as "high value" from shared spaces like treats and toys. The new sibling should have a space that is just theirs to make their safe space. Keeping the pups to a routine and ensuring they are always supervised will have the bonding and getting comfortable with each other as they learn to cohabitate.

Dogs are a huge part of our families and it's so great seeing them bond with the other animal siblings in the house. Every pair has their own relationship, no matter how big or small.

Rare Australian Shepherd-Pomeranian Mix Looks Like a Real-Life Pixar Character

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 10:55am

In a world with so many adorable dogs, snagging the "rare breed" superlative is a big deal. Some are considered rare because of an uncommon, beautiful coat color, while others take the cake by being a near-extinct breed.

For a dog named Doug, he gets the award for one of the most traffic-stopping, cartoonish appearances a dog can have. You have to see this Pixar-like Australian Shepherd-Pomeranian mix to believe he's actually real!

Doug exceeds all expectations for what "gorgeous" even means, because WOW! Between his petite, Pom-shaped frame, his beautiful merle Aussie coat, and the heterochromia—one icy blue and one brown eye—he's absolutely perfect!

You probably won't find such a stud muffin with this interesting mix of features in the shelter. Doug is considered a "designer" breed and quite a sight at that. Never one for blending in, this Australian mix is ready for his 15 minutes in some sort of Pixar flick (call his mom @use.ur.inside.invoice, execs)!

♬ original sound - 𝓙ᝰ.ᐟ Traits of Aussie-Pomeranian Mixes

Until now, I've never seen such a cool mix of breeds like Doug. Being two separate halves of two very different dogs, here's what you're in for with a mix like him:

  • Both Aussies and Poms are intelligent, affectionate, and high-energy pups.
  • Size can vary; they're usually between 10 and 20 pounds of pure loyalty, spunk, and extroverted vibes.
  • Visually, they usually have the Aussie's stunning coat colors (which can often be a thick, double coat) and patterns, but packaged as a Pomeranian. Regular brushing is necessary to prevent mats.
  • With smarty-pants parents, these pooches are quick learners made to show off some epic tricks.
  • They might be clingy! As a known Velcro dog on the Aussie side, expect to have a little shadow most of the day. They form deep bonds with their people and are prone to separation anxiety when left alone for too long.
  • Not all Poms or Aussies are vocal, but with the Spitz genes from one side and the herding trait from the other, they can be a little chatty, but they're excellent watchdogs.
  • They're big fans of lots of physical and mental stimulation to burn off energy and thrive in homes where they can get out and romp in the sunshine.

Whatever traits Doug's been #blessed with from either parent, we just know he's got that star quality that Hollywood's looking for!

Flying Your Dog in 2026? These Are the Only IATA-Ready Crates for Large Breeds

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 10:11am

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

It is officially, at long last, almost summertime. For many of us, that means lots of fun trips are on the horizon, including some destinations that can only be reached by plane. If you're a pup parent of a large dog breed, you may be planning to bring your canine companion along for the vacay (because our dogs deserve some much-needed R&R too).

However, if you've never flown with your dog before or haven't traveled with them in a while, you may be in the market for an airline-compliant travel crate for your furry friend. This might mean you have questions about the necessary requirements for a crate that's compliant and how to know if it's up to the standards set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Luckily, we have you covered with the answers to all of your questions, including the latest crate size guidelines, airflow standards, structural requirements, label needs and a few recommendations for large-sized dog crates that meet the standards set by the IATA.

Here's everything you need to know about flying with a large-breed dog in 2026, including our best picks for IATA-ready crates to make sure you and your pup reach your destination safely.

Why Your Current Crate Might Be Too Small for 2026

IATA has a specific formula for calculating the minimum container dimensions for animals traveling by plane in the cargo area:

  • A: Length of animal from the tip of the nose to the base/root of tail
  • B: Height from the ground to the elbow joint
  • C: Width across the shoulders or widest point (whichever is greater)
  • D: Height of your pet in natural standing position from the top of the head or the ear tip to the floor (whichever is higher)

Once you get these measurements for your dog, you can input the numbers into the following formulas to determine the appropriate crate size for your dog. Per the IATA, the minimum internal container dimensions for a single animal are as follows:

  • Container length = A + ½ B
  • Container width = C x 2
  • Container height E = D + bedding

IATA

(Note that the IATA requires snub-nosed breeds to have a 10 percent larger container.)

If you need some help determining the appropriate dimensions for your dog, American Airlines has a great kennel size calculator you can use.

The New Standards for 4-Sided Airflow

aire images / Getty Images

In 2026, the IATA requires ventilation on all four sides of the carrier. Specific standards for this ventilation include the following:

  • Openings on the sides and back must be located over the upper two-thirds of the crate. Additional ventilation can also be added on the lower third of the front and the back of the container.
  • The entirety of one end of the container must be made of welded wire mesh. This can include the door. Do note though that this welded wire mesh insert that is covering any ventilation openings must be securely fixed to the crate. This is so that your pet can't remove it.
  • Nose- and paw-proof ventilation openings are key. Also, make sure that there is no access to any surface or edge that they could potentially gnaw on or scratch.
  • The crate must have proper vent coverage. At least 16 percent of the total surface area of the four crate walls needs to be ventilated.
  • Ventilation holes must be the correct size: For dogs, this is no larger than 1 inch by 1 inch.
The Structural Requirement That Most Owners Miss

One structural requirement that most owners miss is that plastic crates must be secured with all-metal nuts and bolts, not plastic snap clips or pins. These plastic parts are strictly prohibited. Your crate will be rejected if you don't use the metal reinforcements, so plan accordingly and review that information carefully while shopping for your dog's crate.

The Only IATA-Ready Large Breed Crates

The 3 Documents You Must Tape to the Roof of Your Crate

Your dog's crate must have the following three documents adhered to the roof:

  • A "Live Animal" label
  • Pet identification
  • Owner contact information

It's important that you check with your specific airline prior to your trip to make sure you are meeting individual airline requirements for transporting your pup by crate. This is because some airlines may have additional information or documentation you need to include on the crate in order for your dog to be able to fly.

Now that you know the requirements for flying with your dog in a crate that's IATA-compliant, you can enjoy smooth sailing (or should we say flying) to your destination. Happy travels!

Sweet Shelter Pit Bull Mix Waiting Over a Year to Be Adopted 'Needs Someone to Finally Choose Him'

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 10:10am

Some dogs remain in shelters longer than others for numerous reasons, ranging from age and breed to size and health issues. There are canines who sit in kennels as they long for their forever family for months while potential adopters pass by.

Thankfully, Rocky the Pit Bull mix is in foster care from Fulton County Animal Services, though he's been waiting for a home to call his own for over a year.

@atldogs

Over a year in foster care, and Rocky is still waiting for someone to call him theirs. He's 4 years old, 54 pounds. He walks perfectly on leash. He's house trained. He knows commands. He's great at the vet—no stress, no drama. He lives well with other dogs. He loves food with his whole heart. When dinner time comes, he does these cute little hops in the air like he can't contain his joy. One of his favorite things is curling up in his cave bed with his foster sister—just the two of them, quiet and content. That's Rocky at peace. At night he stretches out in the silliest positions and snores like an old man who's earned his rest. But a year is a long time to wait. A year of being the good boy, the loyal dog, the one who just needs someone to finally choose him. Rocky is available in foster through Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, GA. He's been patient long enough. Let's get him home. #adoptadog #fosterdog #animalrescue

The TikTok from @atldogs told Rocky's story, where the precious Pittie is described as a total sweetheart.

"Over a year in foster care, and Rocky is still waiting for someone to call him theirs," the caption shared. "He's 4 years old, 54 pounds. He walks perfectly on a leash... He's great at the vet — no stress, no drama. He lives well with other dogs."

The brindle-and-white fur baby is considered a canine cuisine connoisseur and does a little happy dance when he gets a meal.

"He loves food with his whole heart," the caption continued. "When dinner time comes, he does these cute little hops in the air like he can't contain his joy."

Rocky Loves to Snuggle

The canine cutie loves to cuddle and spends his downtime snuggling with his foster fur baby sister. He thrives on attention and affection, and is happiest around people. Rocky also has some training under his belt.

"He already knows a bunch of commands, including sit, lay down, crate, wait, cross, and even 'backup' (which he does with an adorable little hop)," his bio revealed. "He's crate and house-trained, uses a doggie door like a pro, and is fantastic on leash. He's also dog-friendly and enjoys rough-and-rowdy play with his canine pals."

Rocky is best suited for a home with a backyard to romp, play, and get his exercise.

The tender-hearted pooch still hopes he gets the chance to have a forever home. Rocky would make a wonderful addition to a loving family.

The post concluded with a plea to consider Rocky, sharing, "A year is a long time to wait. A year of being the good boy, the loyal dog, the one who just needs someone to finally choose him."

At Different Moments in the Clip:

• Glitter shines all over her face.

• “Looking fabulous and innocent.”
• “Who is this diva?!”

Honestly, getting acknowledged by Fenty after accidentally eating highlighter feels like the highest possible level of internet fame.

And somehow Junie really does look like she intentionally requested a full-glam sparkle finish before taking her nap. My own cats are also super curious when I do my makeup, and by curious, I mean they love knocking my beauty products off the bathroom counter.

Dogs are often curious about makeup bags, skincare products, and cosmetics because they contain strong scents, oils, and textures that attract their attention.

Pets May Investigate Beauty Products Because Of:

• Fragrances
• Interesting packaging
• Human scent association
• Creamy or powdery textures
• Curiosity and boredom

Veterinarians recommend keeping cosmetics safely out of reach since some ingredients can be irritating or unsafe for pets if swallowed.

Thankfully, Junie appears completely fine, although she may now expect professional lighting and brand partnerships moving forward.

Rare Golden Bernese Mountain Dog Looks Like a Pot of Honey

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 9:00am

My ultimate dream dog is the Bernese Mountain Dog. I have always wanted one, and one day, I'm going to get one. There is no way around it. For now, though, I just have to watch them on the internet and think about how awesome my eventual dog will be.

This Bernese Mountain Dog has me second-guessing, though. He's got the coolest honey-colored coat, and he's absolutely gorgeous. When it's time for me to get one, I think I need one who looks like him:

@the.great.boonese

Sassy baby Boone! #greatbernese #greatpyrenees #bernesemountaindog #puppy

♬ original sound - alxdxy

Boone the Bernese Mountain Dog is so stunning. He looks like that because he's actually a Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mountain Dog mix! You can see a little bit of the Great Pyrenees in his snout, and obviously in his epic coat color, but that's pretty much it. The rest of him is total Bernese!

The best part about Boone is that he almost appears to be missing the last part of his Bernese Mountain Dog coat. He's got the white and tan fur, but it just looks like someone took his jacket off!

Related: Drama King Bernese Mountain Dog Thinks the World Is Ending Because Mom Stopped Petting Him

As a Great Bernese, Boone has a lot of big feelings. One of the biggest is that he really loves being outside: when he can't be there, he tends to get a little annoyed. When he is, though, he's really in his element:

@the.great.boonese

Golden hour 🤩✨ #greatbernese #bernesemountaindog #greatpyrenees

♬ golden hour - JVKE

He definitely looks a little more Pyrenees in that video: as he's gotten older, more of his second parent breed has come to the surface. His bushy tail and extra fluffy coat really carry those genes!

The Great Bernese Is a Great Companion

While the Great Pyrenees is not typically a breed people get for companionship, the Bernese Mountain Dog definitely is. They're outgoing, friendly, and absolutely stunning.

Image via Shutterstock / Nikaletto

The Great Bernese is the perfect mix of both. This is a breed that needs a family with an active lifestyle, and you'll need to take them outside often: it's where they're most comfortable. These dogs usually love:

  • Snowy walks.
  • Hikes.
  • Games of fetch in wide open spaces.

Though they can enjoy running, they might not be a great companion for a long, sustained run. Because they're on the larger side, running for long periods can quickly lead to overexertion. A light jog would do fine, as long as you bring lots of treats!

This Barn Cat Is So Good at His Job, Farm Sheep Are Lining Up To See Him

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 8:55am

There's no shortage of cute pet videos on the web, but unlikely friendships are the best reminder to never judge a book by its cover. There's no truer example than caring for a bunch of barn animals who unexpectedly form unbreakable bonds you never see coming.

Charles is his family farm's big boss, patrolling the grounds, inspecting pens, and making sure everyone's where they're supposed to be. The sheep must've had a secret meeting about the barn cat's work because now, they're taking turns to see him—and it's more adorable than you could possibly imagine!

View this post on Instagram

Charles isn't a big fan of having the spotlight on him, but the smitten sheep all want their chance to say, "Thank you for all your hard work." You can't argue with that!

As cute as the cat and his tiny, fluffy sheep friend are, Charles isn't always in the mood for smooches. In fact, past clips show a whole other side to "King Charles, His Majesty," and he doesn't hold back.

Related: Retired Barn Cat Meets a Taxidermy Bobcat—Then Things Get Weird

It seems dear Charles wasn't feeling the love on this day. Relatable.

View this post on Instagram How To Introduce Cats to the Farm Herd

Some kitties were always meant to lead a pack of pets, and Charles is among them. When first introducing a barn cat to a farm herd, be prepared to go slow.

Experts suggest keeping the kitty in a crate located in a secure barn or tack room for a three- to four-week confinement period. This helps the cat get used to their safe, home base while the herd adjusts to the scent of a newbie. Resident felines can approach the new kitty while crated, giving everyone a chance to get used to each other.

Keep a consistent routine with food, water, and litter so the new cat learns how things go. After the adjustment period, supervise the first release so they don't go missing and take things slow, allowing them to explore at their own pace. Safety is paramount, so be sure to offer them plenty of perches high up to escape if they feel threatened.

Among the farm animal herd, there's a hierarchy, so respect it! Cats are good at establishing where they'll fall, so let them sort it out and don't immediately intervene if the kitty's not feeling it right away.

After a few weeks, you'll have your very own King Charles who may or may not have the adoration of the whole herd!

Pit Bull Puppy Gets Adorable Piglet-Themed Package After Life-Saving Surgery

Shortly after this adorable Pit Bull foster puppy named Piglet got adopted by his foster family (making them his forever family), he decided to give them a real scare when he needed critical surgery for an intestinal blockage.

The Pit Bull puppy's surgery was required after he ate what they believed was part of a rubber toy and the tip of a pine cone. So little Piglet had to have emergency intestinal surgery.

Piglet survived and has been recovering at home since then, and recently, he got a very special recovery package.

Why Recovery Support Matters for Dogs After Surgery

Once Piglet was out of the hospital, he was most likely out of immediate danger, and his post-surgical treatment was absolutely vital for his recovery.

For dogs to recover after surgery, they need to be in a calm, therapeutic environment.

To help with this process, pups need comfy bedding, familiar toys (though they'll take some new toys from Chewy as well!), easy routines, and lots of companionship from their favorite humans and fellow pets.

All of this can help lower their stress levels.

Post-surgery, a lot of the recovery is mental as well as physical, just as it is for humans after a big surgery.

After an invasive procedure like this (which his Mom explains more about in the video below), which required Piglet to get major stitches and wear a medical cone for a while, dogs need emotional reassurance.

They also need to avoid overstimulation.

In addition to the tips above, monitoring for inflammation and discomfort, as well as ensuring they have adequate nutrition and hydration, are essential.

And as you can see in this video, Piglet's new forever family very much cares about his recovery and overall well-being and loves him very much.

This care package from Chewy, which included a Lamb Chop stuffie, a pig sweater, other toys, treats, and a comfy blanket, is just what the doctor ordered for this sweet Pit Bull.

Happy Pet Turkey Goes Viral for His Flirty Routine at the Local Chick-fil-A Window

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:55am

Turkeys don't get enough credit for being absolute show-offs. People act like they are just awkward birds with dramatic timing and questionable voices. But anyone who has spent real time around one knows they're fully capable of developing a personality, a routine, and apparently a favorite drive-thru staff member.

This turkey’s name is Goose.

And Goose does not do casual.

@goosingtonsmom

🦃🗣️ Goose always shows up and shows out for his ladies at @Chick-fil-A!! As soon as we hit the drive thru the happy dance is happening. We love them there! #fyp #foryoupage #foodtiktok #petsoftiktok #chickfila

♬ original sound - Goose’s Mom

The video opens on what is clearly not his first appearance at the Chick-fil-A window. The second the car pulls into line, he's already warming up for his performance. His person practically has to check the roster like this is a regular customer situation, asking if Alicia is working because, yes, Goose would like to know if his favorite girl is on shift before he commits to the full happy dance.

That detail alone is enough to send me.

The post makes it pretty clear that Goose always shows up big for the ladies at the drive-thru, and once you watch him, you understand that this isn't an exaggeration. He's not just along for the ride. He is the event. This bird has a whole flirt routine, and he's fully prepared to deploy it the second the window slides open.

That is what makes the clip so good.

It's not just “look, a turkey in a car,” which would already be funny. It's “look at this turkey with a social calendar and a preferred customer service experience.” The whole thing has the energy of a tiny-town celebrity making his weekly appearance, except instead of sunglasses and an iced coffee, it's feathers, enthusiasm, and the unmistakable vibe of somebody who knows exactly how charming he is.

One commenter imagined the employee conversation perfectly, basically picturing someone inside saying there's a turkey here asking for Alicia, and honestly, yes. That's the movie. That's the sitcom. That's the kind of detail that takes a funny clip and turns it into one people send around all day.

And Goose earns it.

What I love most is that nobody in the video seems surprised by his commitment. The people at the window know him. His person knows him. Goose definitely knows Goose. That is the sweet spot for viral animal content—when the animal isn't doing a random one-off thing, but clearly living inside an already-established little world of habits, relationships, and ridiculous personal preferences.

Also, the name Goose for a turkey is so rude and perfect, I can barely stand it.

Some animals become internet-famous because they do one weird thing once. Goose feels bigger than that. He feels like a local legend who just happened to get discovered by the rest of us.

Why Male Turkeys Strut and Dance

What makes Goose’s whole Chick-fil-A routine extra funny is that male turkeys really are built to put on a show. Strutting, puffing up, displaying feathers, and doing those exaggerated little performance moves are part of how they communicate confidence, attract attention, and interact socially. In other words, Goose may be a pet with a favorite drive-thru, but the “show up and show out” instinct isn't exactly coming from nowhere.

Scientific American has written about turkey social behavior and cognition, including how much more socially aware and expressive they are than people usually assume.

Goose didn't invent peacocking. He just brought it to the Chick-fil-A window.
