Woman Spots Legless Hummingbird—and Her Warning Could Help Others

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 6:00pm

Everybody and their mother is getting Hummingbird feeders right now. We all want to try and see some, since this is their peak time, and they're gorgeous. However, in our rush to see something so beautiful, a lot of us don't always stop to consider every possibility.

Unfortunately, sometimes, that means the beautiful things suffer for it. Recently, when a bird lover caught a glimpse of a legless Hummingbird, the reason was immediately clear to her. It was totally avoidable and provided an opportunity for a much-needed warning:

@rebel13ink

please ensure the outside of your feeders are sticky free. This poor boy came in, and it seems his legs are missing. He will lay on the regular feeders and eat. #Becka #birds #nature #fyp #hummingbird

♬ original sound - Becka

Becka sees a ton of Hummingbirds every year, so she's no stranger to things like this, but it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking. If you look down toward the bottom of his body, you can see that his legs are missing. While it might not be entirely clear at first, his feathers point to why.

They're stiff and stuck together around the spots where his legs were. That's a combination of dried blood and sticky nectar, which was ultimately the culprit of his losing his legs. Now, when he wants to use the feeder, he either has to keep flapping his wings or lie on it.

Related: Woman Reveals the Best Flower for Attracting Hummingbirds—and It’s Gorgeous

Hummingbirds have very small, very delicate legs and feet. Their feet are too small to even walk on: they can literally only perch on them. Becka actually has a great video that shows them off:

@rebel13ink

Anna Hummingbird #Becka #hummingbird #fyp #nature #bird

♬ original sound - Becka

See them? There's almost no leg there. They're very thin and extremely delicate: even the smallest altercation with something can cause them to lose a limb.

Sticky Perches Are Bad for Hummingbirds

Hummingbird feeders are full of sugar water or another sweet, syrupy nectar. Hummingbirds love and need it, but you know what else loves sweet stuff? Ants. Bees. Fruit flies. Unfortunately, a lot of feeders are plagued with them.

Image via Shutterstock / Sundry Photography

In an attempt to mitigate the issue, people will buy "sticky" feeders with built-in glue traps to stop insects from getting to the nectar. However, that can actually be detrimental to the Hummingbirds you're trying to attract. If they get stuck in the strong glue, they could:

  • Starve if they can't get out and you don't find them in time.
  • Rip out some of their feathers, leaving them susceptible to skin infections.
  • Rip out their legs.

Instead of sticky traps on your Hummingbird feeders, invest in a Hummingbird feeder that keeps the nectar in a saucer below the feeding port: the bees won't be able to reach it. As for ants, try hanging it several inches away from a structure, or if you can't, look for an ant moat to put around your feeder.

Hummingbirds are awesome. The only thing more awesome is making sure you do everything you can to keep them safe!

Tiny Fawn Walks Up During Family Stroll, and the Moment Feels Unreal

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 4:48pm

They were walking a wooded trail when a fawn stepped out of the brush and just kept coming. No hesitation or fear. This wild animal walked directly toward the stroller like it had somewhere to be.

The dad had his phone out, and his daughter was making soft sounds from her seat. Neither of them was expecting company.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

What happened next lasted less than 30 seconds. Yet, that magical moment during their walk had thousands of views on Reddit's r/aww. After the walk, the dad posted the story.

Had a magical moment on our family walk today!
by u/cowsintheclosetIG in aww The Moment She Saw It

The little girl in the stroller saw it first. You could hear the exact moment her brain made sense of what was in front of her: "Oh my God." Then, a few seconds later, quieter: "Hi." Then, after a long pause: "You are so cute."

The fawn stood there, still, and looking like it was fine with all of it. Dad eventually said, gently, "Say we have to go." So they went.

The video hit Reddit and didn't stop circulating. Not because fawns are rare, but because the girl's reaction was completely natural. No screaming, no phone shoved in her face, no adult narrating over the top of it. Just a small person and a smaller deer, figuring each other out in the middle of the woods.

Related: Doting Deer and 'His' Duck Trio Are the New 'Benny and the Jets'

Why the Fawn May Have Come Closer

One commenter offered a theory that makes sense: "I wonder if that fawn heard your daughter's voice and came over to investigate their new fawn friend."

It's not a stretch. Very young deer make high-pitched cries that fall in roughly the same sound range as human infants and as kittens. Several people in the thread had heard it firsthand. One wrote: "I heard a fawn crying in the woods once and it did sound disturbingly similar to a human baby."

The fawn may have moved toward something that registered, however faintly, as kin.

What Actually Made People Stop Scrolling

It wasn't the deer. It was the girl. Her reaction was entirely natural. No one coached her, no one handed her a script, no one told her how to feel about a fawn walking up to her stroller on a Tuesday morning in the woods. She just gasped, said hi, told it it was cute, and meant every word.

Every parent watching probably recognized that feeling—not the child's wonder, but the privilege of watching it happen in real time, before the world teaches kids to be cool about things.

What to Do If You Find a Fawn on a Walk

A lone fawn on a trail is almost never lost. White-tailed deer mothers deliberately leave their young hidden in brush or tall grass for hours at a time while they feed. The fawn staying still is the survival instinct working correctly.

Wildlife experts recommend the following strategy: look, keep your distance and leave. Don't touch, don't move it, don't assume it needs rescuing. This family did exactly that. They took their moment and walked away, which is the only reason the fawn's morning stayed safe.

Deaf Cat Realizes His Mom Is Home, and the Sound He Makes Is Melting Hearts

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 3:34pm

In a lot of ways, raising a deaf cat is similar to raising any other cat... with a few adjustments, of course. You can't call for them to come, but they can still meow at you to let you know they're happy — and don't think they're going to forget about meal time, either. They'll show up next to that bowl regardless.

Being deaf also means that they can't hear their humans' footsteps when they're approaching, so they might be a little surprised when their mom or dad enters the room. But where Otter the black cat is concerned, that's the most pleasant surprise ever.

@iamgooseontheloose

otter’s genuine excitement when he sees me will forever be one of my favorite things 😭 #catsoftiktok #tiktokcats #rescuecats #deafcat #fyp

♬ original sound - goose, otter & lettuce

Since he's deaf, Otter had no clue that his mom was around... but as soon as he saw her, he wasted no time giving her the cutest, most joyful meow.

"Soulmated so hard that this is my deaf cat's reaction when he isn't expecting me to walk in the room," she wrote in the video, adding how much she adores his "genuine excitement" in her caption.

Side note: After I read several comments that other people's cats came running when they heard Otter's trill, I played the video again, but louder, and in fact did manage to summon both of my cats who were very curious about the friend living inside my computer.

Otter is just spreading the joy to cats everywhere!

How Deaf Pets Communicate With Humans

Deafness is certainly a unique challenge for pets like Otter and their humans, but just like he did, they all do find a way to communicate with each other.

Since giving a deaf pet a verbal cue (obviously) isn't going to work, what do these parents do? According to Best Friends Animal Society, the best way to communicate with the pet will vary a bit between dogs and cats.

If the pet in question is a dog who is deaf, some are able to learn American Sign Language (ASL) since dogs are good at reading body language and hand signals to begin with. If you're trying to get their attention, you'd want to stomp your foot on the floor or do something else that would create vibrations that would reach them or even use a flashlight to signal to them.

Creating vibrations and using items like flashlights and even overhead lights can also be used to signal to a deaf cat, but you'll just need to make sure you're consistent in your communication so they understand what you're trying to tell them. And of course, I've never met any cat who would say no to extra gentle pets.

Family Finds a Sweet Wildlife Surprise Napping on Their Front Porch Mat

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 2:48pm

Stepping outside to grab the morning mail doesn't get much more exciting. Yet, for one suburban family, one look out the front window revealed a full-blown wildlife sanctuary right on their welcome mat.

At first, they thought they were hearing noises beneath the porch. But then, the fox babies started showing up. What they realized is that a wild red fox had chosen the dark, protected space beneath their front porch to dig a den, and her tiny, energetic kits began treating the front porch as their personal playground.

One commenter on the Reddit post immediately summed up what thousands of people were thinking: "This would be so dangerous for me, because I'd wanna pet it." Many of us would probably like to do it.

There's a fox family living under our front porch and sometimes the babies take a nap on our mat.
by u/MrsApostate in aww Tiny Foxes Picking the Cutest Nap Spot

The photos showed several baby foxes sprawled across the family's front mat, fast asleep in broad daylight while their mother rested nearby under the porch.

Until you see the pictures, this might sound like fake or artificial intelligence. Even the original poster admitted the experience was overwhelming, saying "When I first saw one in my porch I'm pretty sure I screamed 'oh my God oh my God oh my God what do I do?!?'"

That feels like the correct response when tiny wild foxes suddenly appear outside your front door.

The Internet Demanded a Fox Cam

As soon as people realized the family had an entire fox den under their porch, the comments turned into a mix of emotional support and funny obsession.

One commenter joked, "This is your big chance to put a live stream fox cam out there so we can all log in and watch your kits," before adding, "I would happily pay to subscribe to FoxCam."

Honestly, they would get plenty of subscribers. Another commenter wrote, "That's so sweet. Just a family trying to take care of their kids. Thanks for being a steward and safe haven for them."

Related: 11 Beautiful Cats With Blue Eyes Vets Say Have the Most Amazing Personalities

Living With Wild Animals Takes Boundaries

Despite the adorable wildlife family being all cute, the family knew they needed to be careful. They own a cat, and had to take extra steps to keep her indoors while the wildlife family enjoyed safety nearby.

She explained, "Luckily, they won't be here long term. They'll abandon this den sometime in the coming weeks and go off to live their foxy lives."

That's typical behavior for red foxes. Mother foxes often use temporary dens while raising young kits during spring. Once the babies are old enough, the family usually moves on naturally.

A Wildlife Moment to Remember

Most people spend their lives hoping to spot wild foxes from a distance. This family ended up sharing a porch with them. And while the fox kits will eventually leave, there's something strangely comforting about knowing that, for a few weeks, one ordinary home became a safe place for a wild little family to rest, nap and grow up.

Animal Shelter Lets Rescue Dogs ‘Choose Their Person’—and It Feels Like Fate

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 2:00pm

Something important to know about shelter dogs is that, even if you fall in love with one, you absolutely must consider what the dog wants, too. Just because you vibe with a dog doesn't mean they vibe with you, and making sure it's a perfect fit is the most important thing.

It takes a lot of trial and error, most of the time. However, one shelter recently tried taking all of the guesswork out of it: they just let the dogs go into one big room and hand-pick (paw-pick?) their person. It worked out even better than they anticipated:

The Animal Care Centers of NYC are such a loving, kind place for animals during their toughest transition periods. All of their dogs get placed in foster homes around New York City, keeping them out of that overcrowded and super stressful traditional shelter environment.

On this day, though, they brought a bunch of dogs into a room with prospective adopters and let them loose. Each dog got to choose their person, and for most of them, you could see them make their choice immediately. This little experiment is called Love at First Wag!

These dogs didn't necessarily get adopted by the people they chose right off the bat; they did, however, get to go on a "first date" field trip with them. How to Know When a Shelter Dog Has 'Chosen' You

Clearly, the shelter dogs in this video chose their people, and they did it quickly. However, love at first sight is only a small part of this process: when a shelter dog has really, truly chosen you, you're going to know.

Image via Shutterstock / Budimir Jevtic

Pretty much immediately, if a shelter dog is interested in you, you'll see them perk up. They might even come closer to you or try to get your attention! Don't take that as final, though. Look for these other signs:

  • Tail wagging.
  • Calmness.
  • Nuzzling.
  • Obsession.

When a dog won't stop looking at you, bumping into your legs, or climbing into your lap, it's a sure sign they like you a lot. And if they fall asleep on you during a visit? That's your dog! I hope Love at First wag will continue bringing families together!

Feisty Little Cardinal Is Going Viral for the Hilarious Way He Refuses to Let a Storm Blow Him Away

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 1:48pm

Some birds see a storm coming and immediately fly away. This cardinal must have been having a bad day. He saw a storm coming and said "bring it."

The TikTok from @ashmarie_22 shows a bright red cardinal perched on a branch during what appears to be extreme wind. The branch is swaying. The wind is definitely strong enough to make most birds seek shelter. But this cardinal? He's not going anywhere. He’s just... sitting there, holding on and refusing to budge.

The audio is perfect: the iconic scene from Forrest Gump where Lieutenant Dan straps himself to the mast during a hurricane and yells at the storm.

@ashmarie_22

♬ original sound - Namaz Day

"You'll never know me. I was scared," Forrest's voice says. "But Lieutenant Dan, he was mad."

Cut to Lieutenant Dan: "Come on! You call this a storm?!"

The cardinal embodies that exact intense energy. This is not a bird seeking shelter. This is a bird making a bold statement.

The video resonated with thousands of people, and the comments reveal why this little cardinal means so much more than just a funny pop culture moment.

"My cardinal couple has come to my yard everyday since I've been going through divorce and moving thank you ancestors."

"This is me just trying to survive 2026."

Related: This Cockapoo Found an Unlikely Best Friend in a Baby Deer—and Their Bond Is Magical

One comment stopped everyone scrolling: "My late wife's name is Ashley. She firmly believed that cardinals are family members that have passed on coming by to check on you. She also had bilateral leg weakness and her brother would call her Lieutenant Dan to mess with her. Thank you for reminding me that my wife is still checking on me from time to time."

For many people, cardinals carry a very spiritual significance—symbols of visits from loved ones who've passed on. Seeing one refuse to let go and be blown away during a storm hits differently when you believe it's someone you love reminding you to keep holding on.

How Birds Stay Safe in Storms

Here's the amazing part: that cardinal's determination isn't just for show. Birds have genuine adaptations that help them survive severe weather.

According to the San Diego Bird Alliance, birds are incredibly tuned in to environmental changes. They sense shifts in temperature, wind speed, wind direction, humidity, and barometric pressure. When those shifts happen, birds take action.

They fuel up. Many birds feed ferociously right before storms hit, building energy reserves to survive the duration. That fuel helps them to stay warm when temperatures get cold or gives them strength to relocate if the occasion arises.

They seek refuge. Birds find safe spots—cavities in trees, spaces underneath branches, even just tucking in against a tree trunk. For small birds, even a slight cover provides a good amount of protection from wind and rain.

They sometimes flee. Some species leave the area entirely when bad weather approaches. Even just a few miles of distance can make a huge difference in storm severity.

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

They're more stoic than they look. Birds have evolved countless times to survive extreme conditions. Their lightweight bodies, flexible joints, and incredible grip strength allow these little guys to hold on when winds would blow away much larger creatures.

The video went viral because people needed to see that little guy holding on. We needed to watch something small and determined refuse to be moved by forces much larger than itself.

Whether you believe that cardinal was a visiting spirit or just a very stubborn bird, the message is the same: when storms come, you hold on. You don't have to run for cover. You don't have to hide. Sometimes you hold on tighter and wait for the storm to pass.

Zylina Yellow Cottage Chicken Coop, $379.99 at Costco View this post on Instagram

Spotted in-warehouse this week by @costcohotfinds and quickly shared online to spread the word, the Zylina Yellow Cottage Chicken Coop is about as adorable as Costco finds can get. Not the first of its kind to grace the oversized warehouse aisles, but certainly one of the most eye-catching, it comes with everything you need to provide a sturdy, cozy home for a handful of chickens.

Complete with creature comforts to ensure a safe and inviting living arrangement, this cute little chicken coop features a run with a ramp, multiple windows, roosting bars and a top-load nesting box with multiple bays. It also has a durable, weather-resistant corrugated metal roof and a free-range door for easy entry and exit once your chickens have moved in.

Related: Target's $14 Ceramic Birdhouse Is 'Beautifully Made' and 'A+ Quality'

"The yellow is too cute," Laura captioned her post before asking viewers, "Do you think 2 or 3 chickens for this size?"

In the comments, a mix of reactions is hard to miss, with fans praising how adorable the coop is while also raising concerns about its smaller size. As for Laura's question about whether it may be better suited for two to three chickens rather than the six Zylina says it can accommodate, it's important to consider your yard space and how much access the chickens have outside of the coop.

"PSA, maybe 3 or 4 chickens but only if they also free range during the day and sleep in there at night," one person wrote to help clear up the confusion.

"I don't have chickens, but now I have to buy chickens because this is adorable," another fan chimed in.

How Big Should a Chicken Coop Actually Be?

When reading comments online, you always have to take opinions with a grain of salt. That said, if adding a chicken coop to your yard is something you're interested in, it does come with a lot of responsibility. To the credit of commenters pointing out the coop's size, proper spacing absolutely matters, especially when it comes to keeping chickens comfortable and healthy.

Experts say a good rule of thumb is to allow around four square feet of indoor coop space per standard-size chicken, along with access to an outdoor run for roaming and scratching. Measuring 71 inches long, 34 inches wide and 55 inches tall, the Zylina Yellow Cottage Chicken Coop offers roughly 16.8 square feet of space, making it a more comfortable fit for two to four chickens.

To make planning easier, these general guidelines will help ensure your setup is ready while still giving your chickens enough room to thrive:

  • Allow for about four square feet of coop space per chicken
  • Allow for a minimum of 10 square feet of outdoor run space per chicken
  • Provide enough roosting space for each chicken to perch comfortably at night

With these tips in mind and Costco's charming Yellow Cottage Chicken Coop in your yard, you'll be set up for a humble, happy flock of two to four chickens. From there, it's just about locking in your feeding and care routine and getting ready to enjoy fresh eggs and a bit more life around the yard. Other than that, have fun and always look for ways to expand your feathered friends' space where you can.

One Man Went Searching for Wisconsin's Weirdest Bird Story—and Actually Found It

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:48pm

Imagine driving down a quiet residential street in Wisconsin, looking over at a neighbor's front lawn, and seeing a five-foot-tall bird with an 11-foot wingspan standing completely still next to the flower beds.

For residents in the Midwest, that bizarre scenario somehow became a reality after a massive African marabou stork began wandering through local towns.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

One commenter under the viral video summed it up perfectly: "Imagine not seeing anything about this bird and then just driving by and seeing it on someone's lawn."

A wildlife YouTuber from the channel Badgerland Birding recently documented his search for a massive African marabou stork that has somehow been roaming parts of the Midwest for years. The bird, believed to have escaped captivity in Indiana in 2023, has since become one of the strangest ongoing animal stories in the region.

The "Undertaker Bird" Doesn't Look Real in Wisconsin

Native to sub-Saharan Africa, these birds are also known as "undertaker birds." Their eerie appearance, with black, cloak-like wings and thin, pale legs, makes the nickname fitting.

They can grow around five feet tall with wingspans reaching up to 11 feet, making them some of the largest flying birds in the world.

You expect to see this bird in the African savanna, not so much on a rural Midwestern road.

When the YouTuber finally arrived at the location where the bird had been spotted, he admitted his brain struggled to process what he was seeing.

"It stands out like a lawn ornament," he said in the video. "My mind is spacing out. I'm like, am I at the zoo?"

Related: Cat on Morning Bird Watch Duty Has Dramatic Reaction to Dad’s Interruption

The Bird Survived Midwest Winters

Think about this for a second. This bird is native to a region with extremely high temperatures. And somehow, it managed to survive the Midwest winter.

According to people involved in attempts to capture the stork, the bird may have escaped from the Fort Wayne Zoo in Indiana roughly three years ago. The creator said he could not independently confirm that origin story, though the timeline lines up with earlier sightings.

Either way, the bird has reportedly traveled through Indiana, Illinois and now Wisconsin while surviving conditions wildly different from its native habitat.

One viewer commented what many people were thinking: "That it survived especially last winter's blizzards... tough bird."

Catching the Giant Bird Seems Impossible

For now, the marabou stork remains free. The video shows multiple failed attempts to safely capture the bird, including efforts involving food laced with sedatives. At one point, the stork casually crossed a busy road before flying onto a building roof, where it looked more like a creature from a fantasy movie than a real animal.

"You're telling me this thing evaded capture for THREE YEARS!?" another commenter wrote.

Honestly, that reaction feels fair. The stork appears oddly calm around people, but experts still caution against approaching it. Marabou storks are scavengers and predators with extremely powerful bills that can cause serious injury.

A Strange Story People Can't Stop Following

Part of what makes this story so compelling is how surreal it feels.

One minute you're scrolling online. Next, you're watching a giant African bird perched on a Wisconsin farm building while photographers gather nearby and rescue crews debate how to catch it.

It feels impossible. Yet there it is.

The creator behind the video ended with a request for people to respect private property and avoid interfering with rescue efforts. Everyone involved seems to want the same thing: getting the stork to a safe place before something goes wrong. Until then, Wisconsin's strangest visitor is still out there, wandering fields and confusing drivers who probably never expected to see an African large bird during their morning commute.

Maine Coon Kittens Double in Size in Just Days—and Everyone’s Amazed

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 12:00pm

Normal kittens stay pretty tiny for a while. They're kittens! They're supposed to be small, and for the most part, they are... Except Maine Coons. Those kittens definitely didn't get the memo when it came to staying little.

Just look at these Maine Coon kittens. They're only three days old in the latter half of the video, and yet they're about the size of a regular kitten several weeks after they're born. It's honestly a little wild:

Mossy Cottage Maine Coons has the coolest kittens. These have such a rich, deep grey/black color! The second kitten almost completely changes color in her 72-hour update: you can see the white on her snout disappearing. She's only going to get more vivid!

They're only 72 hours old in this video, though they're a little older now, which means they've probably at least doubled in size again. That's standard for a Maine Coon kitten: they grow almost uncontrollably for the first few months after they're born.

These two kittens in particular are turning into Mossy Cottage's new stars: they're the only two kittens in a litter named after mushrooms. The black kitten is Nameko, and the Tabby is Enoki. There's a better close-up video introducing them:

They're going to make the best playmates while they still can. Eventually, they'll go off to their forever homes, but hopefully, they'll always remember each other!

If three days is any indication, Enoki and Nameko are going to grow up to be absolutely massive. All of the cats at Mossy Cottage, who are European Maine Coons, are on the larger side.

Maine Coons are one of the biggest cat species you can get. These cats can get truly massive, measuring:

  • Up to 40 inches long, nose to tail.
  • Up to 16 inches tall.
  • Up to 25 pounds, though some of the largest exceed 30 pounds.

Male Maine Coons typically end up bigger than females, and they grow pretty rapidly. At about 18 months, they reach their full physical size, though growth, coat changes, and maturity continue for years after. These cats aren't technically full-grown until 4-5 years old!

These kittens have a way to go. I'll be happily watching as much as I can for as long as I can!

Tiny Squirrel Grabs Her Little Heart After Being Scared by a Clap of Thunder

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 11:20am

Squirrels are usually all business. They run, stash, twitch, judge, and move through the world like tiny survival accountants with impossible schedules. So when one pauses in the middle of all that and has a full, visible, very relatable fear response to thunder, it hits a little harder than you expect.

That is Emma.

And Emma has the internet in pieces.

@brutamerica

In a video from @squirrel_boxes, Emma the squirrel captured the internet's attention with her dramatic reaction to a thunderclap. #animal #squirrels #cute

♬ original sound - Brut. - Brut.

The video, shared from a squirrel account people clearly trust with their emotional well-being, shows Emma reacting to a sudden clap of thunder in the most heartbreakingly human-looking way possible. She startles, grabs at her little chest, and for one split second looks like every person who has ever been personally offended by loud weather. It's dramatic, yes, but it's also strangely tender. You're not just watching a squirrel get scared. You're watching a tiny wild creature try to gather herself in real time.

That is what makes the clip so powerful.

The post frames it as Emma capturing everyone’s attention with her reaction, and that feels exactly right, because once you see it, you can't move on like normal. She is so small that the thunder is so big, and the contrast between those two things does something to your nervous system. One commenter pointed out something especially sad and beautiful: Wild animals don't get the comfort systems we do. No music, no blanket, no friend texting “same,” no TV humming in the background. When they get scared, they have to self-soothe with whatever instincts and resilience they have on board.

View this post on Instagram

That thought really lands here.

Because Emma doesn't have the luxury of collapsing theatrically onto a couch cushion and announcing that storms are ruining her life. She just has this little body, this little heart, and this immediate need to calm herself down enough to keep going. The fact that we can recognize that so instantly is part of why the clip has blown up. It's cute, yes, but it also brushes up against something deeper. Fear looks familiar, even in a squirrel.

And still, somehow, Emma remains adorable through all of it.

That may be unfair, but it's true.

Some animals go viral because they do something funny. Some go viral because they accidentally reveal something tender and real that people weren't ready for. Emma managed to do both in one clap of thunder.

The sky barked once, and suddenly, everybody on the internet wanted to protect one tiny squirrel from the weather forever.

View this post on Instagram Do Wild Animals Experience Storm Anxiety?

Wild animals absolutely react to storms, but not always in the same ways pets or people do. Some species hunker down, some freeze, some keep moving, and some seem more bothered by sudden close sounds than by distant background thunder. Wildlife Online notes that even among wild mammals, responses to thunder and other loud environmental noise can vary a lot depending on species, distance, and context.

Emma didn't just flinch at thunder. She reminded everyone that even the tiniest wild hearts are doing their best under a very loud sky.

2 Cat Brothers Cuddling Like a Cartoon Are Too Funny

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 11:00am

If you've ever had a pet, you inevitably have that little squirrel in your brain that whispers, "But what if we got another one?" The first pet is always a precious angel, so you're like, " That's a good idea," only for the second to usually turn out to be a little evil.

In the case of these two cat brothers, though, that couldn't be further from the truth. The two of them hate being apart, and whenever they can, you'll catch them curling up together and cuddling. It's the best (and cutest) way to keep warm!

@jezus04_

I'm glad that @jezus04_ lets his cats cuddle like this. It's not clear if they're biologically brothers or if they're brothers by adoption, but that doesn't seem to matter to them. They cuddle all the same!

There aren't a ton of videos of these cats on his page, but this one came out with a bang. It garnered 7 million likes and almost 30 million total views! Everyone loved watching them cuddle, especially because the way they were holding each other was almost cartoon-like.

Related: Mama Cat Gives Birth the Morning of Her Spay and Her Kittens Are Little Balls of Happiness

Though they love to spend time in their hammock together, it's the favorite spot of the little black kitten, so he can typically be found there even without his brother. He's been going there a lot lately to contemplate his newfound fame:

@jezus04_

He really enjoys his hammock #cattok #adorableanimals #fypシ #socute #cats

♬ awww so cute - Cherri ⁉️

It's in a very nice spot! Look at the light hitting his fur. I wonder if part of the reason he loves it so much is that it makes him look so handsome!

Do All Cats Like to Cuddle?

These two kitty brothers clearly love to cuddle, and the especially love cuddling each other. They grew up together and have never known differently! However, not all cats will be that way.

Image via Shutterstock / Sukan Saythong

Cats will often huddle together for warmth, especially if they're strays. There's safety in numbers, too, so they often feel safer with a buddy they know well! Sleeping is a vulnerable time, so having "backup" eases their nerves. Plus, as kittens, sleeping together is the only way to keep warm.

Clearly, these two kittens have hung onto that into their adulthood. I hope there are many more snuggles to come!

Parrot Dashes Free From Cage To Sing 'Bad Boy' Duet With Dog Bestie

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 10:55am

Some of the best friendships are written in the stars, even if you wouldn't think an unlikely pair would get along so well. Brody, the singing Parrot, lives with a few other furry friends, but the moment Mom opens the cage, this excited bird knew exactly who he wanted to see first—and he couldn't get there fast enough!

@brody.and.the.flo

They are sure exited about each other 😂😂🐶🦜 #parrot #funnyanimals #shihtzu #singingparrot #funnyparrot

♬ original sound - Brody and the flock

Brody relies on his morning routine to get the day started, and you can almost feel his anticipation as Mom approaches his cage. Second by second, he's amping himself up because once the cage door opens and he's free to fly to his perch, he knows he gets to sing his favorite song with his favorite dog, Mars.

The Shih-Tzu joins right in, howling along to Brody's passionate rendition of the tune, adding a whole new layer to Brody's usual performance. With so much talent happening all at once, Brody and Mars have clearly practiced for this moment.

And what Brody does next is even more precious.

Related: Parrot Starts Harmonizing With Mom and People Can’t Stop Watching

His popular song, "Bad Boy," has become something of an internet sensation. He has many renditions, depending on his mood that day, but they're all about what it means to be "bad" in the coolest way!

When the funny Parrot doesn't know he's being filmed, he's almost always rehearsing, and Mom's pretty sneaky in capturing all of it. He's giving it his all in this choir collab everyone's been waiting for!

@brody.and.the.flo

I can’t with these two 😂😂 birds are such clowns never a dull moment! Lol #parrot #funnybirds #funnyanimals #amazonparrot #greencheekconure

♬ original sound - Brody and the flock How Parrots Bond With Dogs

Not all wildly different pets get along, but Brody and Mars connected right away. By nature, the two species aren't known to be friends, as dogs might see a bird like Brody as prey. Luckily, they've found each other in the perfect, loving, and supportive home where interactions are supervised and never forced.

Parrots can form an incredibly tight bond with a pup, based on mutual respect, positive interactions, and trust that's built over time. A success story like this requires a lot of patience on a pet parent's part to ensure everyone's safe and happy.

When the stars collide, you end up with the cutest duo who'll perform the greatest duet you'll ever hear. I have a feeling this "Bad Boy" remix is the one that'll hit big!

This Smarty-Pants Maine Coon Cat May Actually Be Calling for Mom by Name

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 10:30am

Cats may not be able to speak in human language, but they quickly find ways to communicate with us anyway. After you get to know your cat, it's easy to figure out what all of their different meows mean. When they want to tell you something, trust me — they'll let you know.

And sometimes, the chattier cats among us might even get really good at picking up on words they hear frequently. The mom of the beautiful Maine Coon, Capone, in the video below thinks she caught her kitty saying "mom." Do you hear it?

@indigenouswarrior1

Tell me if you hear it…I’m a crazy cat lady so I hear him say mom…only sometimes does it come out but when he wants something it’s seems clear. Like tonight he’s saying “mom” come on I wanna go outside! Mr. Capone is an inside cat but I go out with him now and again to let his nature take over. #mainecoon #kitty #cat #life #momtok

♬ original sound - CheytonRose

In her caption, Capone's mom Cheyton Rose explained, "I’m a crazy cat lady so I hear him say mom… only sometimes does it come out but when he wants something it’s seems clear. Like tonight he’s saying 'mom' come on I wanna go outside!"

She may be a "crazy cat lady" (which is only a compliment in these here parts) but her ears aren't lying to her — it sure does sound like Capone is saying "mom." How precious is that?!

Commenters seem to agree, too, including fellow pet parents who have observed similar behavior in their own cats. "I promise you aren’t crazy. I have a cat that says momma and another that says mommy," one wrote.

This is a boy who is ready to take the outdoors by storm. You heard him — let's go outside, Mom!

Why Maine Coon Cats Are Known for Being Vocal

While not all Maine Coons are making noises that suspiciously sound a lot like "mom" or other real words, they are a very vocal breed in general and are known for being very chatty.

But why? There are a few reasons that Maine Coons love to meow, chirp, and trill so much, though most of it goes back to the fact that they are very social animals, as Altamonte Cats points out. They like to make noises as a form of communication, so while you probably won't find your cat screaming for no reason (which could signal that a trip to the vet is in order), you will probably notice that they seem to be responding when you speak to them or to your other interactions.

However, the different noises they make do mean different things. If you hear your Maine Coon chirping, they're usually excited or curious about something. Softer meows are what you're more likely to hear when you're talking to them and they talk back.

If you're looking for a conversationalist to add to your household, Maine Coons can make excellent roommates. They're very good company, and the fact that they also happen to be such a beautiful breed doesn't hurt, either.

Blind Cat Uses Pure Love and Instinct to Comfort a Group of Tiny Foster Kittens

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 10:10am

Animals have an instinct to look out for those they consider more vulnerable. We often see this behavior in dogs, who frequently serve in therapy roles in schools, hospitals, and assisted-living facilities. Though cats still carry the stereotype of being overly independent and aloof, they have a strong compassionate side as well.

Rhino is a blind cat who sensed that the foster kittens in his home needed some guidance, so he generously offered some support.

@cosmetic.confessi

Let me know if you want more details about rhino our blind cat :)

♬ original sound - Torrell Tafa

In the TikTok from @cosmetic.confessi, Rhino was introduced to the foster kittens and gently sniffed them to get familiarized. Despite his lack of vision, the pretty kitty navigated the area well and was careful not to step on the tiny fur babies.

Rhino's blindness was caused by an earlier illness when he was just a kitten.

"He started as our foster kitten a year ago, but came to us so sick he needed his eyes removed to prevent further infection," the onscreen text explained. "So we adopted him ourselves."

Rhino gently patted and nuzzled the kittens, showing a fatherly care toward the little ones. The striped cat was clearly attentive to how small the kittens were, as if he instinctually knew to treat them with tender care. He seemed to be an expert at using his other senses to safely approach each member of the litter.

Followers were moved by Rhino's sweet spirit and willingness to watch over the kittens.

"I love how he gently reached his paw out to touch the kitten!" one pointed out.

"The way he still automatically knows where to go for a nose boop," another remarked.

"What an angel being so sweet to the kittens," a follower raved.

"I love how he tentatively sniffed for the other one and then homed in on it," someone noted.

"Amazing how well he’s adapted. He even judges distance," a fan commented.

Caring for a Blind Cat

Blindness in cats can be caused by cataracts, retinal problems, glaucoma, or trauma. Keeping their environment safe and easy to navigate is imperative for them to thrive. Some helpful tips include:

Related: Tiny Kitten Perfectly Mimics Dog Brother's Bark in Moment of Pure Sweetness

  • Make dangerous areas safe — Be sure there is nothing in their path that is harmful, such as sharp objects or steep drops.
  • Guide your cat with your voice — Let your cat know where you are by talking, humming, etc.
  • Keep the litter box in the same place — Cats are good at memorization and will get familiarized with its location.
  • Avoid startling your cat — Gently make them aware of when you're approaching or entering a room.
  • Give other pets a small bell to wear — The sound will make it easy for your cat to find or follow them.

Cats are skilled at adapting to obstacles they face. With a safe and convenient setup, a blind cat can live a happy and productive life. Rhino is a wonderful example of overcoming challenges and caring for others.

This Golden Retriever Puppy Is Healing After a Scary Dog Attack—and People Are Emotional

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:20am

Millie, the Golden Retriever puppy, should currently be focused on important puppy responsibilities like stealing socks and dramatically sprinting through the house at top speed.

Instead, the sweet little puppy is learning how to walk with a cast after surviving a terrifying dog attack during a walk.

TikTok user @k8thickman shared the emotional recovery clip showing Millie carefully adjusting to her cast while still trying her best to stay happy and playful.

The caption reads, “She’s still getting used to her peg leg.”

And honestly? The tiny cast immediately destroyed the internet emotionally.

At Different Moments in the Video:

• Millie carefully walks with her cast.
• She looks slightly confused but incredibly brave.
• Her little puppy face somehow makes everything sadder.
• She still perks up excitedly for treats.
• You can see glimpses of her playful puppy personality returning.

Thankfully, Millie Is Doing Well and Continues To Recover, but Viewers Were Absolutely Devastated by What Happened to Her:

• “OMG, I am in shambles now.”
• “Oh, my heart is broken for this poor baby.”
• “Oh no. No, please, I’m so upset.”
• “I’m gonna throw up, I’m so upset.”
• “She’s literally just a baby.”
• “YOU ARE KIDDING. I’m so sick. I could throw up, that makes me so sad.”

@k8thickman

Millie is now moving at the speed of light. Not even a broken paw can keep her away from her treats! ❤️‍🩹 #golden #puppycast

♬ original sound - k8thickman

Honestly, one of the hardest parts is how sweet and trusting she still looks despite everything she went through.

But the little moments of her getting excited for treats and trying to move around again also remind you that puppies are unbelievably resilient.

How Long Does It Take a Puppy To Adjust to a Cast? @k8thickman

working on keeping our spirits high after yesterdays traumatic incident! thank @Starbucks for shining some light on her bad day ☀️#golden #puppy #cast

♬ This Will Be - audios4you

Many puppies adapt surprisingly quickly to casts and mobility restrictions, although recovery time depends on the injury and the veterinary treatment plan.

During Recovery, Puppies May Need:

• Restricted activity
• Supervised movement
• Extra rest
• Follow-up veterinary visits
• Assistance with stairs or slippery floors
• Positive reinforcement and encouragement

Veterinarians also recommend closely monitoring casts for swelling and irritation at the injury site or the puppy chewing on the cast, while helping pups stay comfortable during healing.

And judging by Millie’s determination to still run toward treats, this little Golden Retriever already seems focused on getting back to full puppy chaos as soon as possible.

Stunning ‘Rainbow Tortie’ Maine Coon Cat Should Come With a Pot of Gold

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:00am

Growing up, I never bought into the whole "there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow" thing. I was a very cynical child, but one thing I did love and definitely believed was magical was cats. I was convinced that they were just like the Warrior Cats books!

This Maine Coon changed my mind on the pot of gold bit. She's so stunning that he's almost like a real-life miracle, and if she can be real, maybe I should be looking for the ends of more rainbows. If she's there, so am I!

This cat is actually a Torbie! That's a Tortoiseshell (Tortie) and Tabby cross, meaning she has both the classic Tortoiseshell patchwork and the Tabby stripes. She's got some red, orange, brown, and grey in her coat. That, mixed with her green-blue eyes, makes her a true rainbow Maine Coon! Other kittens, though less colorful, definitely stand out from the crowd as well:

Do Rare Colored Maine Coons Cost More?

If you've decided to purchase a Maine Coon, your decisions and research are only just beginning. First, you have to make sure that you're sourcing a cat from an accredited, ethical breeder. That is the single most important thing. Once you find one, the fun can begin.

There are dozens of Maine Coon coat variations out there, and some are harder to come by than others. If you want a rarer colored cat, be prepared to pay a premium. Some of the rarest (and most expensive) Maine Coon variations are:

There are other factors that contribute to how expensive a Maine Coon will be, too. European Maine Coons, which are larger, usually cost more. Polydactyl Maine Coons (cats with extra toes) will jack up the price as well.

While we don't know how much this stunning Rainbow Tortie Maine Coon would cost, she's worth it. I would love to have her!

Rare Maine Coon-Ragdoll Kitten's Body Looks Perfectly Split Down the Middle

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:00am

Ragdolls and Maine Coons are easily two of the most stunning cat breeds of all time. They're just so classy: there's nothing better than these huge, elegant, and ultra-fluffy cats.

Well, maybe mixing them together. Recently, one cat parent posted their Maine Coon-Ragdoll kittens, and they're everything a cat lover could ever want and more. As if it couldn't get better, one of them has the most perfect split down the center of her face:

Kelsie Spencer hit the jackpot with this pair of kittens. One of them is a gorgeous chocolatey brown color, and then there's his sister, who's a Tortie. She's grey and tan, and on her nose, there's a perfect split down the middle.

This is pretty common for Torties in some capacity: some of them have a genetic condition that makes them that way. For most, however, it's just pure luck! Though she doesn't have a name yet, this awesome cat is definitely a lucky girl!

Baby Bald Eagle Survives Scary Fall From Nest—But Rescuers Faced an Even Bigger Threat

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 7:47am

What started as a terrifying fall from a bald eagle nest quickly turned into an even more urgent rescue after people realized the tiny eaglet was facing another dangerous threat entirely.

Thankfully, an entire community came together to save the baby bird.

@6abcactionnews

First responders worked together to rescue a three-month-old bald eagle in Lancaster County. The baby bald eagle fell from its nest and needed a fishing hook removed from its beak before returning the bird to its mother.

TikTok user @6abcactionnews shared the emotional rescue story after birdwatchers spotted a baby bald eagle falling from their nest near Lampeter Road in Lancaster County, PA and immediately contacted authorities.

But when rescuers reached the eaglet, they discovered something even more alarming.

According to reports shared by Fox 43 and local responders, the baby eagle had a fishing hook embedded in its beak after apparently eating a fish brought to the nest by one of their parents.

Honestly, it's the kind of detail that makes your stomach drop immediately.

Thankfully rescuers were able to:

• Safely examine the eaglet
• Remove the fishing hook
• Confirm the bird was otherwise healthy
• Work together to return the baby safely back to the nest

And perhaps the sweetest update of all was that the eaglet’s mother and sibling reportedly accepted the baby back immediately once they were returned home.

People following the rescue online were deeply emotional:

• “So amazing to watch in real time!”
• “Your crew and the police department did an amazing job.”
• “This will be a day I will NEVER forget!”
• “To see the community coming together and be a part of putting that baby back in the nest was amazing.”
• “It was a once in a lifetime experience for me.”
• “So grateful for the selfless actions of all who helped this eaglet in need.”

One commenter explained they had feared the worst after seeing wildlife officials arrive earlier in the day.

• “It was so great to see that the baby could be returned in the evening!”

Stories like this are emotional because everybody involved understood how important even one tiny wild life can be.

Why Are Fishing Hooks Dangerous for Birds? @seabirdstation

Whenever you find a bird with hooks or fishing line entanglements, bring them to us before taking any action: we know how to do it in the safest way possible 💕

♬ Vibrant Green - James Malikey

Fishing hooks and discarded fishing lines can be extremely dangerous for wild birds and other animals. Birds may accidentally swallow hooks while eating fish or become tangled in fishing gear near lakes, rivers, and shorelines.

Wildlife experts encourage people to:

Properly dispose of fishing hooks
• Never leave fishing line behind
• Pick up damaged tackle
• Use designated disposal containers when available
• Contact wildlife rehabilitators if injured birds are spotted

Even small pieces of fishing equipment can seriously injure birds, especially young animals still dependent on their nests and parents.

Thankfully for this little eaglet, quick acting rescuers and a caring community helped turn a terrifying situation into a happy ending.

Shelter Pit Bull Mix 'About to Run Out of Time' Gets the Biggest Plot Twist Surprise

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 7:10am

Many dogs brought to shelters have a hard time adjusting to the chaotic environment and can decline physically and emotionally. If passed over for adoption for long periods of time, their future can become uncertain, with some dogs meeting a heartbreaking fate.

Beau the Pit Bull mix had been in the Maiu Humane Society for almost 200 days, and couldn't adapt to shelter life. With a deadline looming, Beau got the best news possible just in the nick of time.

@cassondrachristman

From Maui Humane Society!!: “We have a very special update to share about Beau. ❤️ After Beau’s story was shared across our community and beyond, our team received a message from a family on Moloka‘i who believed he might be their missing dog after disappearing late last year. “I'm sure Beau is my dog. After a month of not returning home, I thought he was gone. His name is Bruce. He's about a year and a half old.” We are so happy to share that our team is now working on getting Beau (Bruce) back to Moloka‘i to be reunited with his ʻohana. 🏝️✨ Over the last few days, we received more than 40 adoption interest forms for Beau from all over the world, including Italy and Germany. The outpouring of love, support, shares, comments, and willingness to help this dog has meant so much to our team. Because this community shared his story far and wide, his family was able to recognize him and reach out. This reunion would not have been possible without all of you. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and volunteers who helped advocate for Beau every step of the way by sharing his story, answering questions, responding to comments, and helping keep his story visible. From the bottom of our hearts, mahalo for caring so deeply about Beau (Bruce) and for helping bring him home. ❤️” PLEASE CONSIDER SOME OF THE OTHER DOGS IN NEED. ♬ Ends of the Earth - Lord Huron

Shelter life had taken a serious toll on Beau since he arrived in October. The precious Pittie was extremely stressed in the kennel environment and was scheduled for a "humane euthanasia" to prevent further suffering.

The TikTok from @cassondrachristman shared Beau's story and thanks to an outpouring of love from followers, the canine cutie received adoption inquiries that spanned the globe.

"Beau was about to run out of time this week," the onscreen text explained. "Thousands of people shared his story trying to save him. Adoption interest forms came in from all over the world."

Potential adopters from Italy, Germany, the US mainland, and other Hawaiian Islands wanted to know about Beau, with more than 40 people ready to give him a forever home. What happened next was completely unexpected.

Beau's Future Took a Wonderful Turn

Things were headed in the right direction for Beau. Then Maui Humane Society got a call that changed everything.

"Our team received a message from a family on Moloka‘i who believed he might be their missing dog after disappearing late last year," the caption shared, where the caller said, “I'm sure Beau is my dog. After a month of not returning home, I thought he was gone. His name is Bruce. He's about a year and a half old.”

The Humane Society team is now working on getting Beau safely back to his family in Moloka‘i, and commended the numerous followers who advocated for the precious pooch.

"Because this community shared his story far and wide, his family was able to recognize him and reach out," the caption praised. "This reunion would not have been possible without all of you."

The video concluded with other dogs still available for adoption and in need of loving homes. For more information on these dogs or the Maui Humane Society, visit their website.
