The pretty kitty is FIV positive and missing one eye due to a past condition, though he’s acclimated quite well to the change in his vision.

What Is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)?Spongebob is FIV+, which can make some potential pet parents hesitant to adopt. The blood-borne viral infection in cats weakens their immune system by targeting and destroying white blood cells. This greatly impacts a cat’s health, making them more susceptible to illness and infection.
Still, cats with FIV can live long and healthy lives with proper care that includes a nutritious diet, protection from other illnesses, and regular vet checkups.
Shelter staff members are concerned that potential adopters will see Spongebob’s diagnosis more than his loving spirit and heart of gold.
“Cats like Spongebob sit at the shelter,” the story continued. “They become invisible. Days go by, then days turn to weeks, then the weeks turn to months… He doesn’t deserve to be overlooked due to his FIV or because of the way he looks.”

Costumes Are Not for MalamutesThe video begins with the family in Halloween mode. The kids are trying on their costumes for the upcoming holiday. The energy is high, and somewhere in the middle of the chaos is Teddy, a fluffy family dog.
He has assessed the situation and decided he wants no part of it. Costumes? Hard pass! He is not the dress-up type, and he makes it clear by keeping his distance while the kids parade around the room.
Teddy Has His Own Idea of HalloweenIn the video, the children’s father is encouraging them to “do the zombie” to Teddy, walking toward him with their arms stretched out and pretending to be undead. But this malamute was having none of it. One of the children caught on. “Wait, he’s not scared.”

Woman’s Hummingbird Feeder Attracts So Many Tiny Visitors, We Lost Count
I have become slightly obsessed with the birds in my backyard. I have a smart feeder that alerts me approximately every two minutes that another grackle has arrived, and apparently I’ve reached the stage of life where this is exciting information that must immediately be shared with my family.
But even my backyard bird situation cannot compete with this woman’s deck. She has two hummingbird feeders hanging above gorgeous potted Mandevilla flowers, and there are so many hummingbirds zooming around that I gave up trying to count them. Twenty? Twenty five? At some point it starts looking less like a porch and more like a tiny airport.

'Weak and Fragile' Street Puppy Becomes 'Unstoppable' After Life-Changing Rescue
Niall Harbison continues his mission to rescue and rehabilitate street dogs through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. The animal advocate comes across many heartbreaking situations, with dogs suffering from malnourishment, illness, and injury. Harbison’s Happy Doggo sanctuary now includes a medical clinic where numerous canines have been treated.
The rescue founder recently encountered a sweet puppy, whom he named Trigger, afflicted with wounds, severe skin problems, and a broken heart from losing his fur baby sibling. Naturally, Harbison sprang into action.

“Trigger was just a tiny puppy found all alone,” the on-screen text shared as Harbison’s team came to Trigger’s rescue. “His brother had been hit by a car and sadly didn’t make it.”
Despite the trauma he had been through, Trigger trusted Harbison and his team to give him the help he desperately needed.
“Trigger was sick, weak, and fragile,” the story continued. “He needed a chance. So we gave him one.”
Trigger Is Finally Enjoying His PuppyhoodTrigger was immediately taken to the rescue’s medical clinic, where doctor’s got right to work to begin his recovery process. The friendly fur baby quickly responded to treatment and was soon getting back his puppy energy.
“He came to our little field hospital, where our incredible team gave him the treatment, care and love he needed to heal,” the caption explained. “Just look at him now! Bouncing around, causing chaos and finally getting to just be a puppy.”
Harbison pointed out that he is currently building a full-service veterinary hospital in memory of his beloved Golden Retriever, Tina, and looking forward to how many dogs will be saved with that vital medical care.
“Trigger is one of so many dogs who have been given a second chance inside our field hospital,” the caption shared. “It may be small, but incredible things happen here every single day. And soon, with Tina’s Hospital being built, we hope to be able to help even more dogs like Trigger.”

For now, Trigger is making the most of every day with his new leash on life and isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Vet Treats the 'Most Beautiful' Maine Coon She's Ever Seen: 'Wow. Just Wow.'
We are used to Dr Nicole Fein gushing over her patients – she regularly showers them with kisses and cuddles – but when this particular Maine Coon came to her for treatment, even the effusive vet was overcome.
“This is one of the most beautiful I’ve seen in a long time, if not ever,” announces Dr Fein, adding, “God, he’s gorgeous.”
And he really is. The giant kitty looks to be a silver tabby Maine Coon with a long, flowing coat and a perfectly proportioned face. Dr Fein can’t help but smother him with affection while examining his surgical wound and telling him over and over again just what a handsome boy he is.

Tips to Reduce Your Cat’s Vet-Related StressAnxiety surrounding a visit to the vet is natural, especially for cats, but there are measures you can take to help calm your baby. Experts suggest the following tips for reducing stress before and during your pet’s appointment (hint: several have to do with the carrier):
- Leave the carrier out all year. If it only appears on vet day, it becomes a warning sign. Make it furniture — a bed, a feeding spot — and hand out treats when she wanders in on her own.
- Consider using the kind that opens along the top. Your vet can often examine her right in the bottom half, which is easier than forcing a frightened cat out through a door.
- Spritz a synthetic pheromone inside the carrier 15 to 30 minutes before you leave the house.
- In the car, strap the carrier down so it can’t slide, drape a blanket over it, keep the vents pointed elsewhere and the radio soft.
- Book the quietest appointment slot you can get, and wait in your car instead of a lobby full of barking. Bring a familiar towel for her to burrow into and treats worth having.
- Skip her meal beforehand, unless your vet says otherwise, so those treats actually tempt her.
- Ask about pre-visit anti-anxiety medication — and ask before giving anything over the counter, even the “natural” ones. Most haven’t been studied properly in cats.
And stay calm yourself. Your cat is looking to you for cues and reading your mood the entire time.

Thankfully, it only takes a few seconds to keep your dog’s toe beans clean and your home spotless (well, kind of). Here’s how a certified master groomer cleans muddy dog paws—and how you can too.
Why Traditional Wiping Doesn’t WorkWhen you’re in a rush, it’s easy to just grab a dry towel and wipe off your dog’s paws after a muddy walk. However, while it’s done with good intentions, it’s not always the correct call. Tasha Mesina, owner of Cindra Grooming Products and a certified master groomer, warns that traditional wiping might be causing more of a problem. Mesina explains that by wiping your dog’s paws with just a dry towel, you’re actually packing the mud and dirt further into the feet. At the end of the day, this just develops into a bigger problem and a bigger mess.

Mud doesn’t have to rule your home. Here are a few hacks to ensure you can clean your dog’s muddy paws in just seconds like a pro.
1. Let the mud dry first.While it might seem counterintuitive to let the mud dry up, the reasoning is simple. Mesina says that dry mud is typically easier to remove in pieces. Once the mud is dry, you can take a soft brush or a towel to remove it in hardened chunks. This will typically allow you to get most of it off within seconds.

While not many dogs will appreciate this hack, it’s certainly a great solution to avoid muddy tracks all over your floors. If your dog’s paws are extremely muddy and dirty, Mesina recommends using a small bowl or bucket of warm water to dip their paws into. Afterward, use your hands to work through the mud to remove it manually, and finish off with a quick towel dry.
3. Try a waterless shampoo concoction.If your dog requires a different solution, you can add a bit of waterless shampoo into a spray bottle to dampen the feet before wiping them down with a towel. This is perfect for situations where a simple rinse won’t do.
4. For patient pups, try a paw cleaner.If your dog is patient with you holding their paws, paw cleaners can be a lifesaver for cleaning muddy paws in seconds. Each paw cleaner has its own set of instructions, but they typically entail filling a silicone cup with water and placing each paw inside for a few seconds at a time. The paw cleaner will then wipe down each paw and do all the cleaning for you.

Prevention is always a great way to avoid problems before they begin. You can quickly coat your dog’s paws with their favorite paw balm before walks to create a temporary barrier. Instead of sticking to your dog’s paws, mud and dirt will stick to the wax, making it easier to wipe your dog off when you get home.
Preventative Grooming: The Secret of the ‘Grinch Feet’ TrimWhile “Grinch feet” sounds (and looks) hilarious, it can really make a difference when it comes to muddy paws. “Grinch feet” refers to a dog’s paws that have had fur grow in between their toes. Mesina warns that this overgrown hair only makes it easier for mud to cake up and take over their paws. Not to mention that it’s much harder to wipe dried mud off this fur.
To remedy the situation of “Grinch feet,” Mesina recommends carefully using a pair of small scissors to snip away excess fur until it’s flat. You can also seek help from your dog’s groomer to shave it off for a small fee.
The Hidden Dangers in the Mud: When to Wash the Paws ImmediatelyEkaterina Ilchenko / Getty Images
Muddy paws might seem like a cleaning problem for humans, but they can quickly turn into a health and safety issue for your dog. Mesina says that there are times when even a quick wipe down isn’t enough. She notes that if her own pups were to walk through anything potentially dangerous—like salt, de-icer, oils, chemicals, pesticides or anything unknown—she would immediately head for a washdown.
To avoid having your furry friend lick their paws and ingest something dangerous, it’s best to have them hop in the shower for a complete rubdown. Especially when dealing with an unknown substance, it’s better to be safe and completely wash their paws immediately. A good dog shampoo will typically do a more thorough job of rinsing your dog’s paws than waterless shampoo and a towel alone.
Muddy dog paws are just a part of having a dog, but it doesn’t have to be a constant struggle. By simply keeping waterless shampoo and towels by the door, you can ensure you’re completely wiping down your dog’s paws before mud gets tracked all over your home. Above all, keeping an eye on your dog’s paws can help you catch any potentially dangerous situations before they happen.

Why Do White Cats Often Have Such Striking Eye Markings?White cats are so white because of genetics, obviously, but what’s up with those markings? Since a pure white cat is very rare, it’s more likely than not that they’ll also have some kind of markings, including the kind that look like eyeliner.

They might dream they’re chasing mice, or even playing with their humans, and they also might just be dreaming about the different things that happened that day. To a cat, is there anything better than finding the perfect patch of sunlight to nap in and then have a good dream about eating treats? Probably not.
I’m just hoping that this kitten has a more pleasant dream next time. That hissing couldn’t have meant anything good!

'Old Lady Couple' Labradors Are Losing Their Foster Home, and the Blind One Depends on Her Sister
Dogs that grow up together form an unbreakable bond. Canine siblings become besties as they share everyday life experiences together and even depend on each other as time goes on. When one pooch is in need, the other provides support and comfort.
Sugar and Spice are two senior Labrador Retrievers currently in foster care but have to be relocated due to health issues in the foster family. These two sisters need to stay together for several heartwarming reasons.

“These two sisters rely on one another,” the reporter shared as the two canine cuties stood side by side. “Sugar lost her sight because of a medical condition, and now needs Spice to help her find her way.”
The sweet sisters will turn 10 next month and are being cared for through a foster family with Ma, Paws, and Me Pet Rescue. The family is dealing with a health issue that needs their attention, so the rescue is hoping to find the precious pair a forever home together.
“They are definitely a bonded pair — they need to be together,” Wendy Smith, a volunteer with the rescue, said. “Sugar definitely depends on Spice for navigation and security and confidence. And Spice definitely takes that role with great pride.”
How to Adopt Sugar and SpiceInterested adopters should contact Ma, Paws, and Me Pet Rescue, and also take note of Sugar’s penchant for a specific brand of French fries.
“Sugar loves a good Culver’s French fry,” temporary foster Jamie Dittberner said. “Gotta be Culver’s, not McDonald’s.”

The two seniors are very gentle and relatively low maintenance. They just need a loving home where they can be together.
“They’re a pretty easy, gentle couple that just needs a consistent home with soft beds, lots of love, and somebody that can see past their challenges,” Dittberner shared.

Golden Retriever ‘Can’t Stop Smiling’ While Proudly Cuddling His Favorite Toy
I love a smiley dog. All dogs smile occasionally, but some breeds are much more likely to do it often. Golden Retrievers, for example, smile all the time. As if they needed to be any more photogenic. I swear, I’ve never seen a bad picture of a Golden Retriever.
And I’m not about to start today, apparently. When Ian the Golden Retriever got home from a hard day of work, he was so proud of himself. He did an excellent job working all day, and he got to come home to his favorite toy! His face says it all:

When Ian is off the clock, he mostly enjoys relaxing, especially with his favorite toys. Right now, his favorite is a Highland Cow plush, but it changes from time to time. With how smiley the cow plush makes him, though, it’ll be a while before he moves onto a new one.

As a guide dog, Ian’s daily life is flexible. One day, he might be out all day running errands with his mom. The next, maybe they’re lounging around together. There are a lot of common misconceptions about guide dogs, but Ian as a very important message:
@siobhankilburnPart of a guide dogs job is being comfortable doing nothing anywhere. A guide dog goes wherever their blind handler goes. Crowed places, busses, planes, hiking, church, waterfalls. They need to be comfortable around kids, dogs, under a table at dinner, around wild turkeys(okay maybe that ones niche to me) but the point is they need to be comfortable and confident in the situations their blind handler will have them in. Puppy raisers work to expose their puppies to all kids of environments, noises, surfaces, and distractions to prepare them for formal training. Do Guide Dogs Get to Have Fun?Ian spends a lot of time out with his mom, but at the end of the day, he gets to go home and have downtime just like anyone else. Judging by his happy face, I would say he feels pretty good about the life he lives!
Being a guide dog is an important and occasionally stressful job. They’re constantly watching their surroundings and waiting for commands from their handler. They’re their eyes, after all! However, they have plenty of downtime to decompress, too. Guide dogs get:
- Playtime.
- Exercise.
- Regular walks.
It can be hard for them to “shut off” their working brains sometimes; guide dogs love their jobs, and they love to be helpful. Ian is proud to do what he does, and even prouder of his adorable favorite toy!
