But what if you combined the two?

Well, in a new viral dog video, an adorable white Pug can’t help but draw comparisons to a tasty snack, and people can’t get enough of it.

Have you ever seen a Pug so white?

The Pug, named Smokey, truly melts into the couch.

And as one commenter pointed out, “He’s melted soft serve,” then they added a vanilla ice cream emoji.

Another person said, “A spectacular beast. Looks like an ice cream on a hot day.”

Other food comparisons included “a depleted, slightly toasted marshmallow” and “a twice-baked potato.”

Though some compared Smokey’s looks to that of an oil painting, others thought he was reminiscent of Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars.

Another compared him to a White Harp seal as well as a gargoyle (this is quite a spectrum of comparisons!).

Whatever you think Smokey, the white Pug, looks like, we can all agree he is quite adorable.

What Makes White Pugs So Unique?

So what makes white Pugs so rare?

The white coat color is due to a genetic mutation or abnormality. The more common coat colors for Pugs are black and a tan color called fawn.

White can be the result of leucism, partial pigment loss, or albinism, when the body produces little to no melanin.

Melanin is the pigment responsible for fur, skin, and eye color.

The American Kennel Club doesn’t recognize white as a standard color for Pugs, as there are some issues around unethical breeding when it comes to getting this particular color.

But generally, white Pugs are healthy and happy dogs with the typical Pug energy, friendliness, and cuteness!

I don’t consider myself particularly high maintenance, but apparently I’ve been doing car rides completely wrong. I usually climb in wearing whatever I had on, bring a drink, my latest needlepoint project, and complain if the temperature isn’t right. Sunday the Toy Poodle, meanwhile, has standards.

This itty bitty 3-pound puppy rides around dressed in a black and white striped shirt, a pearl collar and the tiniest pale pink hair bow. She’s lounging on her own dog bed while her mom drives, looking less like a puppy and more like a very small French woman who has someone waiting at the next stop with a croissant.

The adorable clip was shared by the TikTok account @xssundaypup with the caption, “POV: You’ve got the cutest three pound passenger princess.”

There is absolutely no argument here.

Her name is Sunday, which somehow makes the entire situation even cuter. Sunday isn’t getting in the car to run errands. Sunday has engagements.

I imagine her itinerary looks something like this:

• 9 a.m.: Breakfast.
• 10 a.m.: Car ride.

As adorable as dogs look riding in the car, keeping them safe is more important than getting the perfect passenger princess video.

Dogs should be appropriately restrained while the vehicle is moving. Depending on the dog’s size and needs, that might mean a secured crate or a properly fitted dog car harness or restraint designed for travel. Allowing a dog to roam freely inside the vehicle can be dangerous for both the dog and driver.

And as tempting as it is to let a little dog ride on your lap, that’s not a safe place for them while you’re driving.

One rule applies to every dog, whether they’re a 3-pound Toy Poodle or a giant breed: never leave them alone in a parked car. Temperatures inside vehicles can become dangerous quickly, even when the weather outside doesn’t seem particularly hot.

I don’t think Chase, the Whippet, got the memo that missing one catch is a perfectly normal part of learning a new sport.

Because the second that bumper stays hanging above the pool, his entire reaction says, “No. That was supposed to be mine.”

Chase was competing in Air Retrieve for the first time, and the video catches one of those painfully relatable moments when your body moves just a fraction differently than your brain planned.

The Whippet comes out absolutely flying off the dock toward a bumper suspended above the water at 12 feet.

And misses.

Splash.

Normally, that would be the end of the attempt. Chase, however, swims straight back underneath the bumper and starts looking up at it like he might somehow negotiate a second chance from the pool.

He even tries swimming upward toward it.

I’m sorry. The heartbreak.

The video calls it the devastation of your first missed catch, and Chase really sells the emotion. He paddles back beneath his escaped prize with such longing that one person in the comments immediately recognized the feeling. Their own dog had missed during a first attempt, too, and floated there staring upward in despair.

Another viewer couldn’t get over Chase’s backward paddling and obvious desire for the thing he’s just missed.

I can’t either.

But here’s where this video gets really good.

Chase didn’t stay stuck on the miss. His human says they watched him recalibrate, figuring out what he needed to change before trying again.

The final clip shows him launching after the bumper once more.

And 12 feet wasn’t even his best. Chase eventually made his farthest successful catch at 14 feet during his very first Air Retrieve competition.

That changes the whole first miss for me. It isn’t really a failure anymore. It’s the exact moment before he figured something out.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching a dog learn that quickly. One attempt doesn’t work; he processes it, tries again, and suddenly the bumper is his.

I think Chase deserves to look a little dramatic after the miss.

Air Retrieve is a dock-diving event where a dog launches from the dock and tries to grab or knock a suspended bumper from an apparatus over the water. The AKC explains that dogs get two attempts at each distance, and successful catches move the bumper farther away.

If you and your pup want to try it:

• Build confidence first. Your dog should already enjoy swimming, retrieving, and jumping safely into water.
• Celebrate the misses, too. A failed attempt can give both of you useful information about timing and takeoff.
• Increase distance gradually. Let accuracy and confidence develop before asking for bigger jumps.

Chase missed at 12 feet, learned from it, and finished at 14.

I’d call that a pretty spectacular first day.

Both of my dogs have the funniest facial expressions. My senior Dachshund gets such a serious, determined look on her face when it nears dinnertime and basically stalks me with her eyes until I get her food. Her Pug brother literally breaks into a smile when he sees me lift up the leash for a walk or if he hears the word “ride.” It all just adds to their charm.

In the TikTok from @merkin_be_quirkin, the precious pooch was close to the camera with his eyes wide open and looked like he was bracing for some sort of interaction. Merkin’s lower jaw hung down in anticipation, completely focused on something coming his way.

A hand suddenly appeared, slowly moving to pet Merkin on the head. You could literally see him mentally putting together the scene in slow motion, trying to figure out how everything would unfold.

After his initial jump-start reaction to the affectionate gesture, Merkin went back to his usual daydreaming. Followers fell in love with the fur baby and got a kick out of the pooch’s way of processing the sequence of events:

Vikings were always one of my favorite topics to learn about in school, mostly because they’re much different from how they’re typically portrayed in books and on TV. In fact, I wrote a paper for a Norse mythology course I took in college about Spongebob Squarepants and the inaccuracies in the show’s Viking episode. A+, by the way.

These kittens come from Sassy Koonz Maine Coon Cattery, and they actually come from a Maine Coon named Viking. It’s so fitting! They’re all dark and moody, and they’re doing that thing where they curl their tails in when someone picks them up. It’s my favorite!

This cattery specializes in European Maine Coons, which explains their sharp and distinctly “Viking”-like facial features. They also have fluffy ears, and when they grow up, they’ll be slightly bigger than a standard American Maine Coon. Viking, a first-time dad, did a great job with this batch!

Right now, Viking’s kittens are all on the lighter side, even the ones with darker fur. Viking, however, is a striking shade of blue/grey that has all the ladies lining up! The explanation is simple: the kittens are still growing. Their adult coats will come in soon!

All kittens are typically born with a slightly different coat color than the one they’ll end up having as adults. There are a lot of contributing factors for cat colors, but some of the biggest are:

• Genetic traits, like temperature-sensitive albinism, which keeps cats lighter in the womb but allows them to darken when exposed to cooler temperatures.
• Parents’ colors: Smoke cats, for example, take longer to develop that “smoky” effect.
• Patterns: They sharpen as their baby coat sheds and their adult coat comes in.

It takes about a year for a Maine Coon kitten’s coat color to fully develop, though it will take even longer than that for these kittens to reach full maturity. Up to 5 years, in some cases! I hope Viking’s babies are happy and healthy as they keep growing, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for him!

It’s hard when you’re so tired, but all you want to do is stay awake.

As you can imagine, the comments section was on fire for this sweet little brown kitten.

He was compared to a little bear, a brownie, and most fittingly, a delicious cinnamon roll.

That face with the little button nose and pursed lips truly makes him look like a perfect and tiny cinnamon roll.

Many commenters also remarked on his deep brown color and how rare brown cats are.

According to Catster, brown cats are considered rather rare because they need to inherit two recessive genes (one from each parent).

If they inherit only one copy, the kitten usually has black coloring, but is a carrier of the brown gene.

If the kitten has a more cinnamon color like this little one, it’s even rarer because it means they have an additional recessive gene that’s less common than the chocolate brown gene.

How Much Sleep Do Kittens Actually Need?

This little brown kitty does seem so sleepy, so we have to ask: How much sleep do kittens really need?

The answer is, quite a lot!

Just like newborn babies and puppies, kittens spend the majority of their early life sleeping.

According to The Vet Desk, kittens sleep 18 to 21 hours a day when they’re very young, and then this number decreases as they get older.

However, adult cats typically sleep between 15 and 18 hours a day, so their waking hours don’t decrease by much as they age.

Kittens especially need to sleep many hours because they’re growing a lot, and they need to build up their immune system to stay healthy as they age.

Your job as a pet parent is to provide a secure and nurturing home for your dog, and you probably do all that you can to deliver on that. From taking your pup on regular walks, to giving them mentally-stimulating toys to cudding them and taking them to the vet as needed. But since it can be hard to decode the messages your pup is sending, it’s nice to have experts who can shed some light on dog bahaviors and let you know what some dog happy signs are that you can look out for—starting with the most common and easy-to-miss behaviors. Becoming familiar with these emotional signals will not only strengthen your overall connection, but also makes it easier to identify when something is off with your dog. They’re Your Greeting Party

Got a pup that celebrates your return? That creates a feel-good moment—and yes, it  means they feel safe and loved. But Myers suggests keeping in mind that your dog’s enthusiasm isn’t the important part here. In fact, the amount of excitment your pup shows doesn’t match their level of love for you.

“Some dogs practically throw a parade every time their person walks through the door, while others may offer only a tail wag and then go back to the couch,” she says. “A quieter greeting doesn’t mean the relationship is any less strong.”

They’re OK with Being Groomed

To be fair, some dogs aren’t happy with being groomed, no matter the situation or how old they are. But experts say pups who feel secure around you are more likely to communicate that by showing they are comfortable when you brush their coat and trim their nails, compared to those who aren’t.

To help your pup trust you from a young age, vets recommend to start grooming your furbaby when they are a puppy, as it’s a good way to ensure your dog isn’t nervous by the process.

They Can Settle Around You

Sure, you and your dog have a great time together. But it can be tricky how to tell if your dog loves you since they communicate in ways that pet parents can miss or overlook on accident. Vets say one of those instances that dog parents don’t realize is that safe and happy dogs feel comfortable winding down in your presence.

“A dog that can settle near you, with relaxed muscles and comfortable changes in position, is likely to feel secure rather than constantly on alert,” Warner explains.

Therefore, if you notice your pup doing that, it’s a good thing.

They Choose to Interact with You

If you’ve ever wondered, “Is my dog happy?” you’re not alone. However, one of easiest ways to tell is if they want to spend time with you or not when you’re home. Whether they follow you around, bring you a toy, or simply curl up beside you, these voluntary interactions can be a sign of trust, affection, and a strong dog-human bond.

After all, most dogs have a lot of freedom during their day, including when and how they interact with the people around them. So, if your pup seeks out your presence and wants to interact with you, it’s a good sign. “Look for voluntary, relaxed social interaction,” Myers says.

They Conk Out Near You

Trust is something that you have to earn when you have a pet. One sign a dog trusts you is where they sleep.

Myers calls this a “meaningful cue” that your pooch feels secure when you’re nearby. Among other things, it suggests that your dog knows you’ll look out for them when they’re asleep. This also applies if your dog prefers to sleep in your presence, but not on top of you. “A dog snoozing peacefully at the other end of the room may be every bit as relaxed as the one curled up against your leg,” Myers explains.

They Have a Healthy Appetite

Some dogs will chow down on their dog food no matter what. However, a good appetite is a solid way of knowing that your pet is feeling comfortable, loved and content at home.

“Eating normally is one piece of the overall well-being picture,” Myers says. “ A dog who eats an appropriate amount, maintains a healthy body condition, and is interested in food at their usual level is showing one reassuring sign that their basic needs are being met.”

Stress and anxiety can impact a dog’s appetite. That’s why dogs who are upset or distressed may sometimes refuse food, Myers points out. Because of that, it’s important to pay attenton to your dog’s eating habits.

Their Behavior Is Consistent

If you’ve ever wished you could ask your dog if they feel safe, look to their mood and behavior for answers. This is probably the least exciting sign to look out for, but vets stress that it’s an important one. After all, a dog whose behavior is consistent is typically not worried and instead feels at ease.

Going through a similar routine, eating the typical amount of food, and having the same levels of excitement over similar activities are all good signs that your dog is feeling good. But if your dog’s behavior changes, or you’re having trouble telling if they’re stressed, Myers suggests contacting your vet.

As show in the video shared to TikTok, Eloise’s tail is (at least at this point in time) bigger than her and looks like the most luxurious feather duster.

Commenters on social media were also aghast at Eloise and her stature, saying:

Grooming A Ragdoll Cat

Ragdoll cats are a breed of cat that requires more hands-on grooming than others. These cats need two to three brushing/grooming sessions per week, which helps keep them fluffy and feeling their best.

Thankfully, Ragdolls don’t have thick, dense undercoats like some other breeds, which makes them substantially easier to groom and brush.

That being said, Ragdolls do experience seasons in which they shed more than others, which may require their humans to intervene on the grooming front more often. When a Ragdoll begins dropping their coat or little mats start appearing around, it’s probably a sign that the cat is in shedding season.

On top of the expected coat maintenance, you should also make sure to clean your Ragdoll’s eyes and ears, and stay on top of trimming their nails. Keeping your cat groomed is definitely a part of being the best human for them possible.

Cats have a way of being, well, unbothered. Buy them expensive new food, and they may turn up their nose. Bring home a fancy new bed, and they’ll probably choose the cardboard box instead.

But one Tabby cat named Tiger may have taken that famously unfazed attitude to a whole new level when a large Black Bear cub showed up at the door of his Aspen, Colorado home.

He didn’t run. He didn’t jump. He barely even moved. Instead, this kitty remained planted in his chair, staring at the unexpected visitor like he couldn’t quite believe the audacity.

Tiger kept a very close eye on the bear, but apparently wasn’t concerned enough to give up his seat. And for a moment, the stare-down and hissing actually seemed to work. The bear cub paused at the doorway and backed away, almost as if he’d realized he’d entered someone else’s territory.

Unfortunately, he didn’t take the hint for long.

The bear returned and casually walked through the open door, while Tiger continued watching from his chair with an expression that seemed to say, “Excuse me, no one invited you.”

Fortunately, the bear was apparently interested in the trash rather than his tiny feline host. He got into the trash can and then quickly left.

As it turns out, Tiger has quite a story of his own. According to his Instagram profile (@tiger.vieni), he was found injured in Rifle, Colorado, at 5 years old before Journey Home Animal Rescue saved him and helped him find his forever home.

So perhaps this tough little rescue has seen enough in his life that even a Black Bear wandering through the front door wasn’t enough to make him surrender his favorite chair.

The timing of this visit isn’t a coincidence. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), Black Bears enter a period of compulsive overeating called hyperphagia in the fall, feeding for up to 22 hours a day and consuming as many as 20,000 calories daily as they prepare for hibernation. CPW notes that bears working to find those calories can easily damage property, vehicles, and homes in the process.

Of course, remaining perfectly still was probably a pretty good decision with a bear standing just a few feet away. But watching this kitty refuse to surrender his chair while an uninvited guest strolls through the door makes the whole encounter look less like a wildlife emergency and more like a cat dealing with the rudest houseguest he’s ever met.

It may come as a surprise to know that German Shepherds come in more than a dozen colors. Black and tan are the most common hues, but there are a few really cool, extremely rare color palettes that many aren’t aware of, like a gorgeous shade of blue-gray that resembles a muted gray eye shadow.

Blue German Shepherd Maeve isn’t only a showstopper with her fur shade and general “floof,” but she’s also one chatty queen! This is one opinionated pup who doesn’t like the word “no,” but she sure looks cute arguing with Mom about it.

As a model of her breed’s lesser-known traits, Maeve has been compared to koalas, werewolves, wolves, and stuffies, but she’s 100% perfect. If there isn’t a stuffie out there with Maeve’s look, someone please get on that!

If you’re new to a blue girl like Maeve, welcome to the club! The shade is the result of a recessive dilution gene that lightens the black pigment in the dog’s coat, skin, nose, and eyes and transforms them into this pretty, soft blue-gray tint. Shepherds can only garner this color if both parents pass down the rare gene, which seems nearly impossible.

The AKC doesn’t recognize “blue” as a standard German Shepherd color, and their rarity stems from a lack of reputable breeders. Pups with the gene carry a higher risk of developing color dilution alopecia, a progressive skin and hair loss condition, but are otherwise just as loyal and smart as any other Shepherd.

Other rare colors German Shepherds can have are white, liver, black and silver, black and cream, and the extremely cool-looking, multicolored “panda.” However Maeve came to be in this world, her canine (and possibly marsupial!) ancestors must be proud!

OMG, look at the crimping on those ears! Zebby has a variety of textures in his fur, giving him a hip and cool ’80s vibe. This Golden surely had a great day at the beach, and now he has beautiful fur to top it off. What a lucky pup!

How To Rinse and Groom Your Dog After the Beach

As cool as this crimped post-beach fur is, you’ll probably want to groom your dog a bit after the beach. To get your pup clean and happy after a beach trip, there are a few steps you should take.

First and foremost, rinse your dog with fresh water. Washing your pup with clean, lukewarm water removes sticky salt and hidden sand, which helps prevent painful mats. Saltwater may dry out skin and could cause painful hotspots. A rinse will do your pup wonders!

Next, check your dog’s paws and ears. Cleaning between paw pads and toes helps remove trapped sand and small shells, and thoroughly drying the ears can prevent infections caused by excess moisture. These small tasks are instrumental in keeping your pup happy and healthy.

Lastly, dry their fur and brush out their coat. You can either use a towel, or for a more complete dry, use a blow-dryer on a cool setting. Once they’re dry, brush out their fur to release any remaining loose sand and prevent tangles.

I can’t tell if she loves or hates that blanket. It seems like the answer is probably a little bit of both. Luckily, bringing the puppy home when they’re young like this will help them bond better: hopefully she’s a little nicer to her sibling than she is to her blanket!

How Do You Choose a Puppy?

The breeder Lindsay went to doesn’t go as far as pre-matching a puppy to each family: it’s most likely first-come, first-served. Beyond screening the families and making sure it’s safe for their pups, a lot of breeders do it this way.

If it’s on you to choose your own puppy, it’s kind of just a shot in the dark. Their personalities have started coming through, but they’re not in full bloom just yet. You don’t know who they’re going to be! However, there are some things you can do:

• Know if you’re looking for a rambunctious or a shier, more subdued pup.
• Ask what they’ve been like during their time with the breeder.
• Sit and watch the puppies play for a while.
• If you’re allowed, go into the pen and see which puppies show the most interest in you.

Speaking from experience, when you know, you know. You need to be careful, though: sometimes they bamboozle you. I chose the “quiet” puppy over the one who was smacking all of her siblings around. Turns out, mine just wanted to smack her siblings around at home!

What’s the Difference Between a Scottish Straight and a Scottish Fold?

Though the Cheshire Cat was said to be inspired by the British Shorthair cat due to the character’s round face and natural smile, this lookalike is a Scottish Straight.

A Scottish Straight, however, is often confused for a Scottish Fold. So what’s the difference between these two?

To be fair, the two cats are quite similar, so it makes sense why people confuse them.

Both the Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight cats come from the same gene pool in Scotland, and they can have either long or short hair.

They are literally identical except for the shape of their ears.

As you can guess, the Scottish Fold has folded ears, while the Scottish Straight has straight, pointy ears.

So why does this occur?

The Scottish Fold ears are a result of a dominant gene mutation that impacts cartilage, according to Wunderfolds.

If the kitten inherits this gene, they’ll have folded ears.

If it doesn’t inherit the gene, then it would be a Scottish Straight.

Two Scottish Folds should never be bred, as it can lead to the kittens having health issues and deformities.

An ethical breeder should breed a Scottish Straight with a Scottish Fold in order to have healthy Scottish Fold kittens.

Of course, it isn’t guaranteed that you would get all Scottish Fold kittens with this pairing, as you could get all Scottish Straights or a combination of the two.

I am an absolute sucker for a pet with a name that fits so perfectly you wonder if the universe personally filled out the birth certificate. My own Maine Coon named Meatball? Correct. Cruella hasn’t even had time to become a giant Maine Coon yet and she’s already walking around on snowshoes. It’s one of my favorite things about Maine Coon kittens. Their proportions can be completely bonkers for a while because they’re growing into a very large adult cat.

Cruella currently appears to have been assembled from:

• One tiny kitten body.
• Four jumbo paws.
• Two enormous ears.
• One fabulous split face.
• And enough villain energy to eventually take over the entire house.

The stunning cat above is from the same cattery so it’s obviously these amazing colors run in the family! And check out the paws. Those giant paws aren’t exactly surprising because Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds.

Adult males can commonly weigh somewhere around 18 pounds or more, while females are generally smaller, although individual cats can fall outside typical ranges. Maine Coons also mature slowly and may continue growing for several years.

I can confirm that the end result can be substantial. My Maine Coon Meatball is around 20 pounds and has reached the stage where “cat” doesn’t always seem like an adequate description. Furry ottoman feels more accurate.

Having a large cat also means thinking about supersized versions of normal cat stuff. Bigger litter boxes, sturdy cat trees and carriers that can accommodate all that fluff can make life easier.

And grooming matters. That beautiful long Maine Coon coat can develop mats, so regular coat care is important. Ask me how I know, eye roll.

Cruella has plenty of growing to do before she reaches furry ottoman status.

For now, she’s just a tiny black and white villain with giant feet, blue eyes and absolutely no idea how ridiculously fabulous she looks.

I am SO ready for fall. Give me crisp mornings, mums, ridiculous amounts of fall decor and any excuse to wander around looking at pumpkins I absolutely do not need. I am over being hot. Summer has had its turn and can kindly pack its little suitcase.

There’s really no wrong season to bring home a dog when you’re prepared for the commitment, but fall can have some nice advantages. Also October is adopt a shelter dog month.

The cooler weather can make those frequent outdoor potty trips with a new puppy a little more pleasant than standing outside sweating in July. Walks can be more comfortable, too, especially once summer’s extreme heat is behind us.

Fall can also be a good time to establish a routine before the craziness of the winter holidays arrives. A newly adopted dog needs time to learn the household schedule, get comfortable with their new family and figure out important things like where to sleep and which person is most likely to drop cheese.

Of course, adopting a dog shouldn’t be an impulse decision just because you saw a ridiculously cute puppy sitting next to a pumpkin. Dogs need training, veterinary care, exercise, food, patience and a lifelong commitment.

Which is why I’m going to behave responsibly and simply admire this baby through my screen.

Probably.

Although if a pumpkin patch starts handing out Black Lab puppies with every $20 purchase, nobody tell me.

Fall is coming, which means I’m entering my favorite time of year. I want the windows cracked, something warm to drink and approximately 14 extra blankets scattered around the house so I can grab one whenever I get the slightest bit chilly. If the temperature drops below 70, I’m basically preparing to hibernate.

Apparently, I would need to guard my blanket supply very carefully if I lived with this Golden Retriever. Every night, this adorable boy makes the rounds collecting blankets from around the house so he can construct his own luxurious cuddle nest on the living room floor. He doesn’t want a blanket. If your dog circles, paws at blankets or rearranges their bedding before lying down, they’re not necessarily being weird. Nesting and digging behaviors can be a normal part of getting comfortable.

Dogs may paw, turn and rearrange soft materials until they’ve created a sleeping spot that feels just right. Blankets can also provide warmth and a cozy place to settle, which makes the whole ritual even more appealing.

Some dogs take this process considerably more seriously than others.

I can’t even criticize him because this is basically my own fall evening routine. Gather blankets. Find the softest spot. Get snacks. Arrange everything precisely. Become furious if someone asks me to move.

The best stories on the web are those with this type of realistic but happy ending. There’s a still a journey to be had until Berry feels renewed, but thanks to a devoted family, he’s well on his way. Every pet deserves a second chance, and Berry is proof.

How Smart Are Conures? 

As a member of the Parrot family, Conures are active, highly intelligent birds with complex problem-solving skills and can quickly learn plenty for cool tricks. Their IQ and curiosity are why many compare them to human toddlers, and as Berry shows, they enjoy being challenged if it means they’re learning something new.

While Conures aren’t the most talkative species, they can learn a few words and phrases, and they aren’t afraid to express their feelings through action as opposed to words.

As with any of these feathered friends, birds like Berry need a lot of mental and physical stimulation, or they can become bored and destructive—even screaming or feather plucking if they feel the need. Puzzles, toys, and cage-free time go a long way for a rescue bird like Berry, and we’re thrilled he’s finding his sweet voice again.

Some dogs have very unique talents that make them stand out from the pack. Whether it’s a skilled athletic ability, a knack for tracking or tricks, or a special heart for service, our fur babies develop a flair for things that highlight their personalities.

Alfie the Cocker Spaniel seems to have quite a voice and can hold his own with some of today’s great singers.

In the TikTok from @thelifeofalfiee, a special montage featured the fur baby belting out several tunes in quite an impressive vibrato. The precious pooch had almost perfect pitch in each scene and seemed to effortlessly hit every note.

Other posts on the social media account featured Alfie’s song stylings, where he performed some various scales and even his own version of carpool karaoke. The crooning Cocker Spaniel has clearly been working on his harmonies and isn’t shy about sharing his gift.

Followers applauded Alfie’s singing talent, with many comparing him to a famous film and Broadway star:

• “He kinda sounds like Hugh Jackman,” one pointed out.
• “Genuinely thought that he was singing ‘Amazing Grace’ at first,” another noted.
• “First one’s giving me ‘Look Down’ from Les Mis,” a follower posted.
• “I’m gonna have him perform at my wedding,” someone remarked.
• “Hugh Jackman is that you?!” a fan asked.

Why Do Some Dogs ‘Sing’?

Many dogs get vocal through barking, whining, or howling. Like Alfie, some break out into what sounds like a song for no apparent reason.

This behavior traces back to their ancestral line of wolves, who would announce their location to the rest of the pack or simply howl in celebration. One wolf’s howl would often set off a chain reaction and prompt others to join in.

Dogs have since taken up this practice and get quite vocal when they hear certain tones or pitches. Rather than expressing a simple howl, some crooning canines go a step further and actually sing in tune.

Alfie has obviously excelled in this area and may soon be bombarded with performance requests.
