A Maine Coon mama and her six kittens are melting hearts online. Although judging by the expression on Mom's face, she personally would prefer a nap and about fifteen minutes of uninterrupted silence.

Parents everywhere are relating to the tired feline after a video showing the exhausted Maine Coon mom caring for her growing babies started making the rounds on TikTok. And honestly, the look on her face says more than words ever could.

The adorable clip was shared by the TikTok account for @Mainecoonsmk and shows one very overworked tabby Maine Coon mama stretched out on her back while six hungry babies help themselves to the all-you-can-eat buffet.

Meanwhile, one ambitious little ginger kitten appears to be making plans for independence by sneaking over to investigate a nearby dish of mushy food.

Honestly, he's giving strong "I'm 18 now and moving out" energy.

As for Mom? She looks like she's mentally somewhere far away.

Nursing mother cats need extra calories and plenty of fresh water to keep up with the demands of feeding kittens. Many veterinarians recommend offering high-quality kitten food because it's richer in nutrients and calories.

It's also important to provide mom with:

Unfortunately for me, I've never had the chance to see a whale up close. I've loved them since I first learned about them, and I've always wanted to see one of them, but for now, I have to live vicariously through others. Luckily, the internet makes that easy.

Recently, a boat full of tourists was out on the water, hoping to catch a glimpse of some marine life, and in particular, they were hoping to see some whales. Evidently, one whale wanted to teach the tourists to be careful what they wish for:

This is not the first time Captain Delaney has ever seen a whale, but it is the first time a whale has done something like this to her boat. In the caption, she clearly states that the engine is off, meaning the propeller wasn't going, and the whale is the one who got close to the boat, not the other way around.

They're a lot calmer than I would be: something that big being so close to the boat would definitely scare me! However, this whale didn't want any trouble... Okay, maybe a little, he flaps his tail and splashes a bunch of water on them. It wasn't a small splash, either. A couple of them got soaked!

Delaney is a captain, often taking tourists out on the water to spot whales, but she's also a wildlife photographer. She's gotten a ton of really cool shots, and they're super close-up:

Any time they're this close to a whale (or any sea life), they make sure the engines are off. They want to avoid scaring or injuring any of the animals, and that's part of how they're able to get so close! The rest of the contact is initiated by the animals, if they'd like.

Splashing a wall of water onto a literal boatload of tourists feels intentional, if you ask me. It feels like this whale sees boats like this often. Maybe there was someone who rubbed him the wrong way, or he just wanted to play!

Whales definitely do see and recognize humans, especially if they frequent areas where humans are. Some species, like Orcas, have even been observed offering some of their food to humans! They're incredibly curious, which often means they'll:

• Approach boats closely
• Splash the boats
• Surface close to them

If a whale is approaching your boat, the best thing to do is keep calm and take it in: turn off the engine and just watch. Never touch them, either, even if they're close enough to splash you until you're soaked down to your socks!

The most shocking part of a recent shark attack in Florida wasn't that it happened. For longtime Floridians watching the video, it was where.

According to authorities, two staff members from the Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSA PC) in Panama City, Fla., went for a swim when a shark attacked one of them.

The footage of the attack, which happened on June 8,  is difficult to watch. Between the screams and blood, somehow, the victim, an employee of the Naval Warfare Center Panama City Division whose identity hasn't been revealed, managed to reach the shore.

Experienced Floridians were not shocked by the attack—they were shocked by the choice to swim there at all.

Marinas are among the most dangerous places to enter the water along Florida's coast. Where fishermen clean and gut their catch, sharks follow. Blood and fish scraps thrown into the water around docks create a consistent food source. Bull sharks learn of those spots fast.

"Sharks hang out around marinas looking for scraps from fishermen gutting their catch. I would never swim in a marina in Florida," commented one viewer.

"Clearly that poor guy wasn't a native Floridian. We would never swim in a marina. They are infested with hungry bull sharks like this one that eat scrap filleted fish cast over the docks," wrote another Floridian.

Florida has led the world in unprovoked shark bites for decades. According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, in 2025 the state recorded 11 cases, accounting for 44 percent of all U.S. cases and 17 percent of unprovoked bites worldwide. Even worse, that is lower than the recent five-year annual average of 19 incidents.

Bull sharks frequently attack swimmers and people in shallow coastal water. Unlike most sharks, bull sharks tolerate brackish and even fresh water. That puts them in canals, inlets and marinas with active fishing docks.

The miracle is that the man somehow reached shore on his own after the attack. With injuries to both arms, he was lucky to be alive. First responders rushed him to a nearby hospital where he received treatment.

As one viewer said, "The fact he was able to make it back to land is a miracle in itself."

The alarming video should serve as a warning. Florida's docks and the ocean might seem calm and inviting, but be careful about what lies beneath the surface.

The first step to camping with your pet is always to ensure where you're going is dog/pet friendly. There are plenty of resources online where you can always double check that pets are allowed wherever you're heading. Don't assume just because you're outside it's pet safe; better prepared than sorry!

When prepping for a camping trip with your dog there are a handful of things you should prep in advance and while you're there to make sure it's an enjoyable, safe, and happy experience for you both.

• Make sure your dogs information is up to date just in case they get lost. Having your phone number and info readily available on their tags is also critical.
• Prep them for tick and fleas before heading out.
• If paperwork is necessary where you're heading, make sure you have that as well.
• Bring a long lead, leash, and other methods of keeping them near you at all times.
• A sleeping pad or specific bed is helpful since the ground gets very cold at night.
• A pet specific first aid kid should be in your pack at all times.
• Bring plenty of bags for waste and picking up after them.

Even with the perfect prep, it's also totally possible that camping won't be your dog's cup of tea, and that's okay. Some pups were just meant for the indoor life, and if they're anything like Liss they'll be sure to let you know.

Introducing a new pet to your pack can always be a little intimidating, but sometimes it results in a reaction you never saw coming!

Jessica of @jessicalgagnon on TikTok got exactly that when introducing her tiny, new baby kitten to her dogs. Her Golden Retriever took to the new sibling immediately and self-appointed themselves as the precious baby's new bodyguard.

While guarding behavior can be very cute and a sign that your pets are bonded, it's not something to take too lightly, and you should definitely keep your eye on it as the human/owner. Any type of "guarding" can be resource guarding and lead to reactivity. As with everything, safety comes first.

Resource guarding another pet can stem from a few things. It could be insecurity or wanting to make sure they get enough attention. It could be derived from your dog feeling overwhelmed and overstimulated. Or there could be something happening physically, and this is your dog's way of expressing that.

Regardless of the "why" behind the guarding, it's important to react appropriately as the human. Do not punish your dog simply for expressing warning signs because the warning signs do nothing to address the root cause. Tandem training and establishing structure is a great way to mitigate unsafe behaviors. And in the case you feel like it's outside of your capabilities, always consult a professional.

All to say, it's always best to monitor the situation and take care to make sure all of your fur babies stay safe. You're the ultimate bodyguard after all!

If I could have a Newfoundland, you can trust that I definitely would. I would love to have one of them: they're just so huge and lovable! Unfortunately, though, I don't think a 200-pound grizzly bear in my house is a good fit for me right now.

One family has one, though, and he's incredible. Their Newfoundland is a perfect match for their home, especially since they have small kids. It's like having a dog, an uncle, and a lifeguard rolled into one:

Chewy the Newfie wasted absolutely no time jumping into that water to save his baby. Chewy joined the family after his human did, but he's basically her guardian now. He walks her to the bus stop every day, and whenever they're at the beach, he's there!

His parents put a lifejacket on him every time, just to be safe, but he's allowed to swim whenever he'd like as long as he has it. Most of the time, he only jumps in when his baby asks for him. Like in this video, she called out to Chewy to help her!

She was totally fine, and she was wearing a lifejacket, too. She just likes to make him feel like she needs him, and she's not the only one! Chewy saved his dad that day, too:

Wearing tiny blue-and-orange jerseys, New York dogs walked proudly alongside their parents. Many soaked the attention from strangers who couldn't resist stopping for a photo.

The day after the Knicks clinched the title, Reuters spoke to fans whose dogs were taking part in the celebration. One man, a lifelong fan, talked to the news agency about growing up watching the Knicks and catching the 1999 Finals with his dad. That series was also against the Spurs. Unfortunately, the Spurs won. This time, however, it went the other way.

"Last night, she was just getting so much attention in her Knicks jersey that she just kept walking and going all around," the man told Reuters about his dog.

Another fan put the wait into plain numbers. "My daughter was born in 1973, after they won their game. After that, they haven't won until today. My daughter is 53," the woman told Reuters as she held her Knicks-adorned dachshund.

While dogs can't read a box score, they can read a room: facial expressions, body language, a shift in someone's voice. All of it, at once, constantly.

Saturday night in Manhattan ran hotter than it has in half a century, and dogs ran with it. Tail-up walks through packed sidewalks. Strangers stopping mid-stride. Enough jersey photos to fill a camera roll by midnight.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the parade the same night the Knicks clinched. It's Thursday, June 18, 10 a.m. ET in Manhattan. The Canyon of Heroes route runs from Battery Park up Broadway to City Hall, the same corridor that's hosted parades for the Yankees, Giants and Rangers.

City officials expect large crowds along the entire route. It will be the first Knicks championship parade since 1973. Pet parents with dogs in Knicks gear are already expected along the entire route on Thursday. If Saturday night was any preview, the dogs will draw their own crowds.

Piglet, a deaf and blind Dachshund mix, is beloved online for the way he happily persists in his life despite his differences, so seeing how easily he manages to make a new friend comes as no surprise.

When a deer found her way into Piglet's yard, it was love at first sight. Instead of running away from the unfamiliar creature, the deer followed after Piglet like they were meant to be lifelong friends.

In the TikTok video shared by Piglet's humans on June 13, we can see this sweet pup wandering around in the yard (looking stylish in a red t-shirt, of course) as his new deer pal checks out the situation.

It doesn't look like she stayed very long, but even a few minutes seems like plenty of time for these two to form a bond. Piglet clearly has calming energy — that's something that his 89.2k followers can definitely attest to.

As a blind and deaf dog, Piglet has faced more challenges while living his daily life than most pets. But in the process, he and his humans have turned his differences into something truly inspiring that is helping others.

Together with his parents, Piglet is the face of the Piglet Mindset Educational Program, which began in 2017 when a third grade teacher used Piglet's resilience to teach her students about having a "growth mindset." Instead of just one lesson, Piglet ended up inspiring an entire curriculum.

Now, with the help of materials that are available online, Piglet teaches kids how he "uses the 3 senses he has to live a happy, meaningful, productive life despite his disabilities."

They teach the Piglet Mindset, which includes being kind to all people and animals, staying positive in the face of challenges, and accepting people for who they are, including their differences.

Piglet also makes school visits, both in person and virtually, and there's no doubt that he's delighting kids wherever he goes — and knowing Piglet's sweet personality, the feeling is probably mutual.

This sweet dog is really changing the world. If only we could all be more like Piglet.

In the TikTok from @lennysfrenchieworld, Lenny ran outside like he usually does when he noticed a French Bulldog puppy standing in his backyard. He stopped in his tracks and sniffed the tiny stranger, unsure of the reason for his presence.

After a few thorough whiffs, Lenny stomped away and gave his mom an angry stare, as if to say, "What is the meaning of this?" The outraged expression on the Frenchie's face spoke volumes.

Meanwhile, his new puppy brother began sniffing Lenny in an attempt to start building a brotherly bond. Lenny let the tiny pooch know he was invading his personal space and tried chasing him away.

This impromptu dance continued for a few moments as the puppy kept trying to win his older brother over, though Lenny made his frustrated feelings quite clear.

Greyhounds are so awesome. They're so awkward, but so graceful at the same time. It's because they're so lean and their ears are so floppy: they always look like they have bad news to give!

Lindsey Enslen has raised her two Greyhounds, Goose and Bailey, since they were puppies. They're very well-loved and super well cared for, but sometimes, things just happen. Bailey was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, and to keep it from advancing further, they opted to amputate her leg.

She's in a very supportive home, so recovery will hopefully be easy on her: her mom has already started making adjustments so she can continue doing all of the things she loves. Goose, however, isn't sure. He seems to be wondering why she's not more concerned that she's missing a whole leg...

Bailey had some post-op complications, but she's home now and doing much better. She's still mostly restricted when it comes to playing, but she's not letting anything get her down:

I mean, all of my dogs have all four legs and they don't run as fast as Bailey. That's impressive! In time, she'll only get smoother and faster! Just because she lost a leg doesn't mean she can't have fun!

Though tripod dogs can live long, healthy, happy lives, adjustments will make all the difference. There are things you can do before surgery to prepare, but you won't really know their situation until they come home and heal a little.

Before your tripod dog comes home, you should make sure to put in ramps up to their favorite spots. Putting down rugs in the areas they frequent will help, too: keeping traction in those first few days will be difficult.

As they come home and begin the healing process, you should:

• Encourage them to walk as much as is comfortable for them.
• Adjust the way you play with them: try not to throw the ball as far when you're playing fetch, for example.
• Make sure to give them time to rest: losing a limb can put excess pressure on their remaining joints.

You should also keep an eye on the wound to make sure it's healing properly: pain or irritation will slow every part of the process, including their desire to start returning to normal life. Luckily, Bailey is doing great!

Yes. While wild lovebirds are naturally green, selective breeding has produced a variety of beautiful color mutations, including peach, cream, blue and shades that can appear pink.

These soft pink tones are especially common in peach faced lovebirds with certain color combinations. Their rosy feathers can range from pale blush to vibrant shades that almost look unreal.

New World Screwworms are the larvae of a parasitic fly. The flies lay their eggs in open wounds on living things, unlike most other flies, and those larvae burrow into the wound. They're flesh-eating and incredibly dangerous.

Technically, any warm-blooded animal can get New World Screwworm, which is what makes it so dangerous. Most commonly, the parasites are found in:

• Cattle.
• Other livestock.
• Farm birds, like chickens and ducks.
• Wild animals.

It's becoming more common to find New World Screwworms in dogs and cats, though. It also spreads easily: the flies fly away, find an animal with a wound, and infect. Rinse and repeat until several animals across several states are infected.

Though any animal can technically get NWS, they have to have an open wound for the flies to lay their eggs in. It might be a small wound you don't even notice, which is what makes it so terrifying: the eggs are tiny, and the problem is often impossible to spot until it's too late.

There are some symptoms to be on the lookout for:

• The wound becomes inflamed, smells bad, or seems infected.
• Small white dots in the wound or the surrounding area.
• Yelping or whining.
• Constant itching, biting, or licking of the impacted area.

If you believe your dog, cat, or any other pet might have NWS, get them to the emergency vet immediately to have the wound cleaned and treated. Don't try to do it on your own: you will not be able to get all of the eggs. Waiting will only make things worse.

If you're in a state that hasn't had any cases yet, it's still important to stay vigilant. Check for any open wounds whenever they come in from outside. Give them a good pat down every night before bed! They certainly won't mind that.

Both of my dogs hate getting their nails trimmed when we go to the vet. It makes them feel violated in some way and they make their displeasure known. In the TikTok from @zarathepit, the pretty Pittie was wearing a soft muzzle while her nails were being trimmed. The sound of protest she made wasn't exactly a bark or growl, but more of a groan/whine combo that mimicked a beloved Star Wars Wookiee warrior.

“A cat’s sense of safety is the foundation of their emotional well-being,” says Christine Alexiou, certified feline behaviorist and founder of Christine’s Cat Behavior and Training. “Cats are both predators and prey animals, which means they are constantly assessing their environment for potential threats.” 

Because of this, their instincts usually keeps them guarded about who they trust, which may make you wonder, "Does my cat love me and feel safe around me?" The truth is, experts say a cat new to a household may take some time to feel comfortable and realize you want to look after them. "It's important for pet parents need to provide the right environment and work to forge a bond with them,” explains Rita Reimers, a certified cat behaviorist.

So, how can you tell if you make your cat feel safe or if you have more work to do? The signs are admittedly subtle, but once you notice them, you'll feel great knowing your cat sees you as their guardian and safe place.

Every cat is an individual and, as a result, your cat may have their own way of showing they feel protected. Still, experts say these are common behaviors your cat is at ease in your company. 

One sign your cat feels safe is when they slow blink, which is a signal of trust. “When a cat deliberately closes their eyes around someone, they are temporarily reducing their awareness of the environment,” Alexiou explains. “Because cats are naturally cautious animals, this action suggests they feel comfortable enough to let their guard down in your presence.”

Cats don’t always show affection in obvious ways, but when they know that you're going to protect them they are more at ease, even in the way they sit.

"You may see your cat loafing, which is when cats sit with their paws tucked under their body, is a relaxed resting posture," Alexiou reveals. “While they can still move, if necessary, this posture often indicates that the cat feels comfortable enough to settle and conserve energy without remaining on high alert."

Don’t mistake your cat turning its back toward you as a sign of rejection: It’s actually a compliment. “A cat who does not trust their people will not put themselves in a position to not see who is approaching,” Reimers notes. “They are in a vulnerable state when they can’t see what’s happening behind them, but they trust you enough to turn their backs anyway.”

So, if you notice your furry family member dong this behavior, know it's something cats only do when they feel safe and protected by whoever they are around.

If you're curious what it means if your cat shows you their belly, it's a good thing! "This is a vulnerable position that your cat won’t show to just anyone," says Marilyn Krieger, certified cat behavior consultant and founder of The Cat Coach. “A cat’s stomach protects vital organs, so if they expose their belly to you, they trust you.”

Therefore, it's their way of revealing that they know you'll protect them and watch over them if they're near you because to you, you're their hero.

A deep yawn doesn't mean you're boring your pet. It actually shows that they know they have nothing to worry about when they're around you. In their eyes, you're not just their pet parent, you're their guardian and part of their inner circle who watches out for them.

“Relaxed, unhurried yawns often occur when a cat is transitioning into a calmer emotional state,” Alexiou says. “When combined with other relaxed body language signals, deep yawns can indicate that a cat feels comfortable and secure in their environment.”

A calm, unhurried mealtime might not seem like a big deal, but for cats, it’s one of the clearest signs they feel completely safe in their home. When a cat is comfortable, they don’t feel the need to rush or stay alert while eating—they can simply enjoy their food. “When cats are relaxed while eating, this shows they trust their environment, their people, and other pets,” Reimers says.

Have you ever seen your pet’s tail standing verticaly and then slightly quiver? "This is common when your cat cat behavior when they greet a trusted person," Alexiou says. “This is frequently associated with positive emotional arousal, excitement, and affection. In many social situations, it is a sign that the cat is happy and comfortable interacting with someone they trust.”

According to his pet parent, Theodore only reacts this way to reflections from a phone or even a retainer case. Most of the time they don't bother him, but if he's understimulated or has been sitting still for too long, all bets are off.
