Sweet Cat Decides a Chipmunk Is Her New Baby—and They Almost Look Like Twins

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 8:00pm

When we think of cats with chipmunks (or with any outdoor critters, really), we usually don't think of it ending well. That's why a lot of cats aren't allowed outside: letting a cat outside unsupervised can be bad for the natural ecosystem.

However, one cat is determined to break that stereotype. She recently saw a chipmunk who definitely needed some help. Luckily, she wasn't willing to leave him behind, and she took him in without a moment's hesitation. Honestly, they kind of look alike:

@fayrasmussen

I mean they are the same colors I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️ #cat #chipmunk cute animal

♬ original sound - Fay-Lynn Rasmussen

Fay-Lynn lucked out having a cat who was so willing to take in an animal she'd never seen before. A lot of cats wouldn't be so kind! How this chipmunk came to be in the kitty's care is unclear, but one thing is clear as can be: she really loves him.

You can hardly see him when they're snuggled up at first! He blends right in with her tail, which just feels like even more proof that they were meant to be together. There is also a dog in the house, but he's probably not super interested in playing dad to a chipmunk.

Whether this family is going to keep the chipmunk forever isn't clear yet, but for now, he's getting all the love he needs. The humans are making sure he's well fed, and the cat is making sure he's well snuggled. That's a perfect combo:

Don't worry: they're never alone together unsupervised, just to be safe. When they can't be together, the chipmunk is tucked away in a cat-proof place. They just get some supervised snuggle time every day!

What Drives a Cat's Maternal Instincts?

Mama cats love their babies fiercely. They would do anything to protect them, even if it meant risking their own lives. When they have babies, even their favorite humans will have a hard time getting near them!

Marina Demidiuk / Getty Images

A cat's maternal instincts are biological and hormonal. Kittens are born completely helpless, and their mothers know they need to move them to a safe place and feed them in order to keep them alive. However, cats will often "team up" and take care of kittens who aren't even theirs.

A cat may be inclined to raise a baby who isn't hers, even if they're not the same species, if:

  • The baby is very young.
  • It's obviously in need of her help.
  • Not necessary, but if she's just had a litter of kittens, she's more likely to accept another baby.

A young, vulnerable animal, kitten or not, can trigger a cat's protective and maternal instincts. You still need to be responsible about it, but there's no harm in (carefully) trying!

Inquisitive Pit Bull’s Tree Investigation Goes Sideways in the Most Hilarious Way

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 7:20pm

If you’ve ever known and loved a Pit Bull, you’re probably well aware that they’re loyal, affectionate, and often unintentionally hilarious.

While the breed sometimes gets a bad reputation because of irresponsible humans, well-loved Pit Bulls have a way of winning people over with their goofy personalities. That’s certainly the case with Lucy, an adorable blue-eyed Pittie who recently reminded everyone that grace isn’t always her strongest quality.

While investigating a hollow tree trunk, Lucy lost her footing and took one of the funniest tumbles you’ll see all day. Don’t worry, she wasn’t hurt and seemed completely unfazed by the whole thing. In fact, she handled the unexpected slide better than most of us would.

Check out her moves in this May 27 Instagram from @lucy_the_pitty_:

View this post on Instagram

This may be one of the most graceful falls I’ve ever witnessed. One moment Lucy was calmly sniffing around the tree, and the next she was sliding down the trunk, flipping over a root, and popping back up as if nothing had happened.

The slow-motion replay somehow makes the whole thing even funnier because it highlights just how relaxed she remained throughout the ordeal. There wasn’t a hint of panic. Lucy simply accepted her fate and rolled with it.

Related: Funny Pit Bull Refuses To Get in the Bath Unless Mom Puts Her Jam On

Her fans completely understood the moment.

Viewer @iamkitmaine pointed out, “Love how Bullies do nothing to stop themselves from falling. They just accept it.”

That’s a pretty accurate description.

Meanwhile, @drax_to_the_max joked, “10/10 Gracefulness (falling with style).”

Fair assessment.

And @iamsarahbean shared, “Why are they so uncoordinated?? Mine trips over stuff that isn’t there.”

As a rescue Pit Bull mix mom, I can confirm that clumsiness is often part of the package. While many Pit Bulls are incredibly athletic, they’re also known for their goofy enthusiasm, which occasionally leads to moments like Lucy’s stumble.

Lucy bounced right back from her tree-trunk tumble, and it turns out goofy moments are pretty common for this lovable girl. Just take a look at this belly-crawl compilation her family shared on June 1:

Whether it’s zoomies gone awry, a sliding sploot, or an unexpected tree-trunk tumble, dogs have a way of turning even the simplest moments into comedy gold. Lucy may not have intended to put on a show, but judging by her fans’ reactions, she definitely made plenty of people smile.

Beginner Runner Wants Her Labradoodle as a Training Partner, but She Faces a New Challenge

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 6:48pm

Many people start running to improve their health. One Labradoodle may be about to gain a new hobby along the way.

As one dog mom posted on Reddit's r/RunningWithDogs, she wanted advice on how to start running with her Labradoodle. She described herself as a "very inexperienced runner," adding that the only running her dog has done has been while on a leash and only when rain starts falling.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

The Redditor's biggest fear was not understanding her dog's limits.

Start Where You Are, Not Where You Think You Should Be

The dog-running community responded with practical, specific, and applicable suggestions.

The most common recommendation was Couch to 5K, a free app structured around run-walk intervals. One commenter said, "If you're just starting running, you'll likely hit your limit before your dog does. I'd just start slow."

Another added, "Depending how inexperienced you are, his limits are probably much higher than yours (not trying to be rude, but good motivation to get better!) focus on what you're comfortable running - short easy runs? Run intervals? On a trail? Along sidewalks? And train your pup as you go."

And one commenter provided a specific answer, saying, "Run/walk intervals are a good place to start. The exact interval are up to you and your fitness level. You could start with 30s run/1.5 min walk. You could do 1 min run/1 min walk."

Labradoodles Are Built for Active Lifestyles

As many Redditors suggested in the thread, the dog probably has more stamina than his mom. Labradoodles are versatile dogs that combine the athleticism of poodles and the outgoing nature of Labrador retrievers. The combination can handle long distances, but the key is building fitness gradually.

How to Teach Your Dog to Be Calm While Running

Here is something not many people mentioned. Running with a dog is different than going for a walk. During walks, sniffing is part of the experience.

During a run, consistency matters, and dogs cannot sniff every two to three minutes. The key is creating a separate running routine. The best way is to use a specific harness, leash or running belt that signals to dogs that it is exercise time, not sniffing time.

Before adding speed, practice loose-leash walking to get your dog accustomed to running with you. Keep the early sessions short and fun. Reinforce consistent forward motion during run intervals and gently redirect when the dog pulls ahead or stops.

Once the expectations are firmly established, running with a dog is one of the best ways to build a habit that sticks. Your dog expects it, and you have to show up.

Pit Bull Has a Full-Blown 'Existential Crisis' Over Crossing the Cat's Path

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 6:10pm

Large dogs can be big softies. Certain breeds like the Great Dane, Cane Corso or Pit Bull look intimidating but often end up being gentle giants that scare easily. Some considerably big canines even get bossed around by their smaller pet siblings.

Stella the Pit Bull is a perfect example — she's a bit wary of her orange cat sibling even though the precious pooch is more than twice the pretty kitty's size.

@snickypoodle

same cat who gave her a tongue bath yesterday btw #pittiesoftiktok #apbtlove #orangecatbehavior

♬ Spooky, quiet, scary atmosphere piano songs - Skittlegirl Sound

In the TikTok from @snickypoodle, Stella attempted to tiptoe down the stairs when she saw her feline fur baby sibling asleep in the middle of the floor. Apparently, she was afraid to wake her kitty brother despite there being a huge size difference.

"My big scary Pit Bull having a 60-second existential crisis because she wants to come see me but the cat is blocking her path," the on-screen text explained, though, according to the caption, the orange cat was actually quite affectionate. "Same cat who gave her a tongue bath yesterday."

Stella innocently wagged her tail and whined, hoping her mom could somehow help her cross the room. Her mother sweetly encouraged her to take those courageous steps, but Stella stayed practically glued to the stairs.

Finally, with her mom's gentle coaching, the pretty Pittie bravely maneuvered her way past her fur baby brother and into her mom's welcoming arms.

Followers got a kick out of the amusing scene and noted that Pit Bulls are often big mush balls:

  • "This is so typical Pit Bull behavior — the BIGGEST babies!!" one remarked.
  • "The cat looking at you like, 'I’m not even gonna do anything, jeez!!'” another commented.
  • "Kitty was too relaxed to make the swat reach. Sweet babies!" someone posted.
Why Some Big Dogs Are Afraid of Cats

The stereotype of a cat cowering at the sight of a dog still exists today, though some canines get easily intimidated by felines. Several factors can play a part, including:

Related: Sweet Pit Bull 'Turns Into Chewbacca' When She Gets Her Nails Clipped

  • Body language — Dogs can read a cat's subtle movements and calm stare as unpredictable and a challenge, making them feel like they have to be on guard.
  • Past experiences — If your dog had a previous run-in with a cat that didn't go well, they may be fearful of getting close to a feline.
  • Personality — Some cats have an authoritative presence, which can be off-putting for a sensitive dog.

Creating boundaries and rewarding calm behavior can help your fur babies form a positive relationship. Stella may just need some time and support from her mom to feel totally at ease around her kitty brother.

Birdfy's Solar-Powered AI Bird Feeder Alerted Me to a Secret Visitor in My Backyard

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 5:43pm

Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

They say there's a moment in everyone's life when they look out their window, and suddenly find themselves obsessively interested in birds. And I have to say, that's true. My husband and I have recently developed a deep love for birdwatching. We've set up multiple feeders in our backyard, testing every type of bird seed and suet to figure out what our local birds like the best. Out of all the bird feeders I've tried, nothing beats Birdfy's AI feeders with solar-powered cameras. They're beautiful to look at, and they've opened up a whole new world for identifying and watching the birds who visit us.

Birdfy sent me a Birdfy Feeder Bamboo in exchange for my honest review. And it didn't take long for me to fall in love with it.

I have the standard 120 ounce model. It's a beautiful feeder that looks classy in my yard. Two bins on either side of the camera let you try different types of seed at once. An extended perch lets birds of different sizes visit.

The solar panel is separate from the feeder, which means you don't have to set up the feeder itself directly under the sun, as long as the solar panel is getting a lot of light. We chose to put the feeder at the top of a pole with a squirrel baffle beneath it.

It took less than a day for birds to start visiting. I've seen blue jays, mourning doves, tufted titmice, and chickadees.

And thanks to the feeder's AI, I even learned about a secret little visitor I didn't know was stopping by... More about that at the end of the article!

Assembling the Birdfy Feeder Was Simple

Courtesy of Stephanie Dwilson

Setting up the Birdfy Bamboo Feeder was pretty straightforward. It came mostly already assembled. I just had to charge the camera for 14 hours and pick where the feeder would hang. There were only a few additional steps needed. (And as you can see in the picture above, it holds up to a kitty sitting on it!)

As you can see in the photo below, the feeder has two columns on either side of the camera that you can fill with two different types of birdseed, if you want.

Courtesy of Stephanie Dwilson

My husband did the heavy lifting attaching the feeder to a pole outside. It probably took him about 30 minutes, and Birdfy provided the supplies he needed.

Note: Whenever you pick up this bird feeder, you want to hold it from the bottom. Don't pick it up from the top, as the roof only loosely attaches on the right side. It's designed this way so the top is easy to lift and refill with seed.

Courtesy of Stephanie Dwilson

I highly recommend attaching the feeder to a pole that has a squirrel baffle beneath it, so squirrels and rats can't get on your feeder.

Once the bird feeder was set up and connected to my WiFi, it started working immediately. That same day, we had a pretty intense thunderstorm. The feeder stayed connected and worked all through the storm.

The Feeder's Videos Are Beautiful and Its AI Spotted a Secret Visitor

Courtesy of Stephanie Dwilson

I've only had the Birdfy feeder up and running for nearly a week, but I already am loving it! Every morning I wake up to cute little notifications like the one pictured above. The Birdfy AI automatically identifies any bird that visits and sends me an alert about the feathered friend's presence. I get these throughout the day and night, and it's a lot of fun.

In fact, the AI helped me realize that we were getting a secret visitor in our backyard that I had no idea about! Every morning at 7 a.m., a little starling hops on our feeder and noms down on some seed before taking off. And he doesn't return until the next day!

This isn't the first time Birdfy alerted me to a secret visitor. I had the very first Birdfy feeder several years ago. Back then, I found out that a POSSUM was jumping onto my feeder late at night and eating all the seed. There was even one night when a raccoon stole some of the bird's food!

Now, I won't deny that the AI will occasionally get a bird's identity wrong. (It's gotten my blue jay visitors right about 95% of the time, but a couple times it thought they were mockingbirds.) Usually it only gets it wrong if the bird is standing farther away from the camera or looks a little different for some reason, like maybe he's visiting during a rainstorm.

The videos are high quality, and you can even hear the birds chomping down on their snacks. With the mourning doves who visit, I can clearly see the sharp blue color around their eyes and the bright pink color of their feet. It's greatly entertaining.

Where to Get the Birdfy

There are tons of places where you can get a Birdfy feeder (and some of them may even still ship in time for Father's Day!) Of course, I'm going to recommend the Bamboo one that I tried out, since it not only looks beautiful, but it holds a ton of seed as well.

Here are three places where you can pick it up:

If you're on the fence, I definitely recommend not debating your purchase any longer. The Birdfy Bamboo is beautiful, fun, and would make a great gift to yourself or to a family member or friend.

Woman Rescues Shelter Dog, Then Receives a Life-Changing Surprise

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 2:48pm

It's a familiar story: You rescue a dog thinking you saved their life. Yet, somehow, they end up saving yours and helping you out even more than you could have ever imagined.

One woman recently shared a story on Reddit's r/Habits, explaining how she adopted a shelter dog hoping to give him a better life. "I rescued him to give him a better life. turns out he had other plans for me too," the Redditor shared.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

When she adopted her dog, she never thought he would help her quit smoking after 12 years. To celebrate her achievement of reaching 100 days smoke-free, she posted on Reddit to praise her four-legged companion.

Walks Instead of Cravings

The Redditor explained how her dog helped, saying that whenever she craved a cigarette, she would instead grab her dog's leash and go outside. She didn't care about the time of day or whether it was raining.

As OP noted, cravings usually last between three and five minutes. The good news is that dog walks usually take way longer than that.

According to her, the first week was brutal. Yet, after the tenth day, something changed. Her cravings were still there, but they lost their power. Somewhere during those daily walks, her cravings disappeared, and she is now 100 days smoke-free.

The Internet Reminded Her Who Deserves Credit

The comments quickly piled up. One former smoker congratulated her, saying, "Congrats on quitting. Everyday it gets better and easier. I quit after 17 years."

Another praised her determination, saying, "Even if your dog helped you still deserve the credit. You could have easily just lit up while you were outside with him, but you chose not to."

Her dog, which, judging by the photo, looks to be a golden retriever, provided support, but OP did the work.

Golden Retrievers, Therapy Dogs

Golden retrievers were bred to be companion animals and follow humans during hunting trips. While they are no longer hunting dogs, their instinct for staying close to their favorite human remains.

These dogs have a unique ability to be present without demanding anything in return. They don't judge or require any kind of explanation and will go for a walk even at 2 a.m. without complaint.

The combination of consistency, routine, movement and the presence of another can help anyone feel less alone. And sometimes, that is what we need in the first week of a challenging task.

This Redditor made it to day 100—and her golden was there every step of the way.

Rare Field Spaniel Celebrates His First Birthday, and He's Already the Most Gorgeous Dog on the Internet

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 12:52pm

Weighing in at 48 pounds and showing off one of the most gorgeous coats I've ever seen, Boone the Field Spaniel is celebrating his very first birthday and capturing hearts while he does it.

This stunning pup belongs to a rare dog breed that we don't see very often these days, and not only is Boone one good looking canine, but he has a big personality to match, even though he's still very much a baby.

@fieldspanielboone

our big guy is 48lbs and full of sass!!! #fieldspaniel #spanielsoftiktok #spaniel #fieldspanielpuppy #raredogbreeds

♬ EVERYTHING HALLELUJAH - Justin Bieber

Boone is definitely getting big, and it probably won't be much longer that his mom is able to hold him in her arms like this!

This Field Spaniel has come a long way and grown so much over the past year, which is especially obvious if you compare him now to this video of when he was a tiny puppy:

@fieldspanielboone

this is becoming a Boone account I’ve decided #fieldspaniel #spanielsoftiktok #spaniels #raredogbreeds #spanielpuppy fieldspanielpuppy vulnerablenativebreed

♬ Art of Now (Nature Sounds) - Dennis Korn

Boone was just as gorgeous as a baby as he is now — and of course, crazy adorable from the very beginning. Between that shiny dark coat and deep brown eyes, no other dog stands a chance next to him.

Spaniels are pretty common dogs in general, but this particular Spaniel breed that Boone belongs to is the rarest of them all.

What Exactly Is a Field Spaniel? You're Not Alone If You've Never Heard of One

Field Spaniels have become such a rare dog breed in recent years that most people out there have never (and probably will never) encounter one while out and about.

According to Good Dog, there are less than 2,000 Field Spaniels (also known as Fieldies) left in the entire world.

It's a shame, because they really are the sweetest dogs. The Field Spaniel personality is one that lends itself well to being a family dog, as they are affectionate creatures who are good with children and are typically very trainable, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) points out. Boone's humans are definitely lucky to have him.

The Field Spaniel Almost Went Extinct — Here's the Wild History A Field Spaniel on a leash

Kyle Reynolds / Getty Images

According to the AKC, before Field Spaniels were considered rare, they nearly went extinct. From 1916 to 1960, not a single dog belonging to the breed was registered with the organization.

As people attempted to breed their idea of the perfect hunting dog into existence using Fieldies, the new version of the dog fell in popularity. But thanks to breeders who remembered what these dogs were supposed to look like, they were able to make a comeback decades later. Even today, they are still classified as a "vulnerable" breed by the Royal Kennel Club.

It's a good thing Field Spaniels didn't go extinct, or we wouldn't have Boone! To see more of this beautiful dog, you can follow Boone on TikTok, @fieldspanielboone.

Siberian Husky Puppy's Hilarious Attempt at Howling Has Everyone Weighing In

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 12:48pm

Here is something nobody tells you about owning a Siberian husky. The famous husky howl is not guaranteed. Huskies are famous for their "awooo," a trait that has become part of every husky video, husky meme, and a reason to get this amazing dog.

Yet, not every dog is the same. Reaper, an 8-month-old husky puppy, apparently missed the memo. As his dog mom explained in a Reddit post to r/husky, instead of howling, he just does a hyena impression.

🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

Fellow husky parents immediately started sharing their stories. However, one Redditor warned, "Better be careful what you wish for."

The Husky Scream Is a Feature, Not a Bug

Speaking of funny comments, another hit the nail on the head, saying, "Ma'am, you have a husky. The husky scream is part of their core operating system, and sometimes it's the only 'howl' they ever use."

As one of the most vocal dog breeds, Siberian huskies have a wide range that goes beyond the classic howl. They can scream, yodel, whimper and "talk" in tonal syllables.

Still, some, like Reaper, never use the standard howl. As one Redditor confirmed, "My husky that knows how to howl still does this when she's mad at me."

Related: Which Adorable Puppy Breed Should You Get, Based on Your Birth Month

Not Every Husky Gets the Instruction Manual

One of the most recognizable sounds of a husky is a dramatic howl that can be heard throughout the neighborhood.

Reality, however, is different. Many husky parents in the Reddit post confirmed the lack of howling. One said, "I have 7... none of them howl... they talk but none howl."

Another added, "I tried to teach my pup to howl on multiple occasions. He just looked at me like I was an idiot. I eventually gave up when the neighbors complained."

Can You Teach a Husky to Howl?

For pet parents who want to unlock their dog's inner wolf, patience is the best asset. Start by playing recordings of dogs howling. You can also try playing emergency vehicle sirens at low volume.

Many huskies instinctively want to join in. Or you can try howling yourself. Yes, it sounds silly. Here is the good news, though: Your dog will not judge you any more than they already do!

Short training sessions work better than long hours. Huskies are intelligent animals with an independent streak. If they find your training session boring, they will quickly end it.

Here's a tip to keep in mind: It's better to practice in the evening. Huskies are more vocal as the day winds down.

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 10:10am

Stay dogs and cats often need time to adjust to their new home after adoption. Many of these animals faced traumatic experiences while homeless, including food scarcity, illness and abuse from strangers. Patience and compassion are needed when helping a new rescue pet acclimate to their unfamiliar surroundings.

Katie the Calico cat lived most of her life as a stray. She experienced sleeping in an actual home for the very first time and is already starting to let her guard down.

In the TikTok from @sheadance8, Katie looked ready to start the day as she leaned into her new mom's affectionate pets.

"After 13 years on the streets, crazy Kate has experienced a good night's sleep safe inside," the on-screen text explained.

Indoor sleeping in a cozy environment definitely agreed with the feline fur baby. Katie was completely relaxed, as if she could already sense she was in her forever home.

"Did you have a good first sleepover?" Katie's mom asked as the pretty kitty appeared to prefer hanging out on the unplugged hot plate. "Did you sleep good, baby girl? I don't think you moved. I think you slept right here."

Katie soaked in every bit of her mom's attention, clearly feeling safe and loved after all those years on the street.

"You got good sleep — you got some breakfast," her mom noted as she discussed their plans for the day. "You wanna chill today? You wanna keep chillin'?"

Chances are Katie opted for a day filled with rest and relaxation. Followers were moved by the tender scene and raved over the cuddly cat:

  • "Best night of the beginning of the rest of her life," one remarked.
  • "She’s such a cutie pie," another gushed.
  • "Yes, have the best life baby!" someone cheered.

How to Help a Former Stray Cat Adjust to Home Life

There are some practical ways to help a previously stray cat acclimate to domestic living. Tips include:

  • Create a safe and comfortable space — Provide your cat with their own quiet, calm area with blankets and a bed to decompress and have alone time.
  • Establish a routine — Feed your cat at consistent times each day, and incorporate daily interaction and playtime so your cat gets daily exercise and mental stimulation.
  • Monitor behavior and health — Watch for signs of stress like decreased appetite, hiding, or aggression and contact your vet if these issues continue.
  • Prevent escape attempts — Make sure windows and doors are kept closed, and try distracting your feline with toys or treats placed far from the door.

Most importantly, be patient. Take things slow and don't force interaction. Bonding and new habits take time, so follow your cat's lead.

Black-and-White Pit Bull's Gorgeous Spotted Coloring Makes Him Look Like an Oreo McFlurry

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 9:55am

If you've ever looked at a dog and immediately thought, "That is dessert," then Poe is going to make perfect sense to you. He's a black-and-white Pit Bull with the most gorgeous spotted coloring, and whoever compared him to an Oreo McFlurry wasn't being dramatic enough.

In the video, Poe is doing absolutely nothing, which is exactly what makes him perfect. He's not performing tricks, running around the yard, or making chaos. He's just sleeping peacefully on the couch or his bed like a 100-pound baby who has never paid rent but still somehow owns the whole house.

@lifewithpoeboy

Idc if he’s 100 lbs, he’s a BABY! 🐶✨🐾🤍 Inspired by @billythepitty 🥰 #puppy #bigdog #doglove #dogmom #sleepydog

♬ New Home - Penguin Piano

The caption introduces him as the cutest tiny Oreo McFlurry anyone has ever seen, then immediately admits that "tiny" is a state of mind when the baby in question is a full 100 pounds. To me, that's really the magic of big dogs. They can be built like a piece of furniture and still look like they need to be tucked in with a lullaby.

Poe has that soft, heavy sleep that dogs get when they know they're safe. His spotted coat makes him look like cookies and cream, but his posture is pure spoiled house hippo. He's stretched out, snuggled in, and clearly living the kind of life every pooch deserves.

Some of the commenters noticed the details, too. One person loved the way dogs use pillows like exhausted little humans, and Poe is the perfect example. There's something so funny about a big dog deciding, yes, this pillow is necessary for proper neck support. He isn't sleeping on the floor like an animal. He is a prince.

Another person couldn't get over the tucked paw and the glorious neck rolls, and truly, those are the kind of details that turn a cute sleeping dog video into a full experience. The widdle paw fold. The smoosh. The rolls. The complete commitment to being cozy. It's art.

We also have a white Pit Bull in our family, and he's such a great family dog. He's an old man now, which means he has more than earned his pillow moments, couch privileges, and any dramatic sighing he wants to do while settling in. There's something extra sweet about watching these big, strong pups become absolutely softness at home.

Are Spotted Pit Bulls Rare?

Spotted Pit Bulls aren't impossible to find, but Poe's cookies-and-cream look is definitely special. Pitt Bull-type dogs can come in many colors and patterns, so black-and-white spotting can happen naturally. What makes a dog like Poe stand out is the full package: the pattern, the face, the size, and the fact that he looks like a sleepy McFlurry with feelings.

The United Kennel Club notes that American Pit Bull Terriers can come in many colors and color patterns. So while spots themselves aren’t unheard of, every dog’s markings are still unique, kind of like a fingerprint made of cookies.

Basically, Poe isn’t just rare because of his coloring. He’s rare because he’s Poe, and he knows exactly how to work a pillow.

Woman Spots a Helpless Turtle at a Railroad Crossing and Stops Everything to Save Him

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 9:49am

Usually, wild animals do just fine living their lives without human intervention. But once in a while, we get the chance to step up and be a hero to an animal in need.

A Kansas woman is being celebrated after she spotted a helpless turtle stuck on the railroad tracks and shared a video of the miraculous rescue.

A woman rescued a turtle that was stuck at a railroad crossing in Kansas. After a couple of minutes of maneuvering, the turtle was safely freed. 🐢

♬ original sound - AccuWeather

In this video shared by AccuWeather's TikTok account on June 15, Martha Henkel Boucher documented what happened when she saved a turtle who was stuck under the tracks while she was on her way to church.

This poor box turtle was trapped between two rails, but Martha fearlessly lifted him out and moved him away from the tracks to safety.

"'It was so odd looking, and I love animals, so I turned around and, sure enough, it was a turtle stuck in the rail. Got out to help it and filmed it. Took a few minutes to get it out," Martha told Metro of the rescue.

She was definitely in the right place at the right time, because I don't even want to imagine what could have happened if she wasn't there to save this turtle.

How to Safely Help a Turtle Crossing the Road

You never know when you might have the chance to be a hero and help a turtle in need the way that Martha did, so why not be prepared?

If you happen to spot a turtle who looks like they need help crossing a road, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service asserts that this is a beautiful thing to do, as long as you're doing it the right way, especially since female turtles will often get stuck trying to cross the road when they're looking for a safe place to lay their eggs.

  1. Keep safety first — remember that the turtle you're helping could bite you if you handle them, so the ideal way to help is to stand guard while they cross so that they aren't hit by any cars.
  2. If you do need to pick them up, don't grab them by the tail. Instead, pick them up and place them down in a safe spot that is the same direction they were going.
  3. If you can move them without touching them, like by sliding a car mat underneath them and only holding the mat, that would be even safer.
  4. Be sure to fully wash and sanitize your hands after handling the turtle, since some can carry dangerous bacteria like salmonella, as PetMD points out.

You never know when it's your turn to save the life of a turtle who could really use some human assistance. Who knows? You could become a hero at any time!

Dog Mom's Clever Fix for Her Snack-Stealing Dachshund? Turn Him Into a Beekeeper

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 9:15am

Anyone who has ever lived with a Dachshund knows they possess two personality traits above all else.

Chaos and confidence.

Which is why one clever dog mom recently came up with a hilarious solution for her snack obsessed long haired Dachshund.

@yuno.koreansausage

the best decision🙌🏻 #dachshundsoftiktok #dogtok #yuno🌭

♬ LOOK AT THIS - Astro Boyke

The funny clip was shared by the TikTok account for @yuno.koreansausage and stars Yuno, an adorable cream long haired Dachshund with apparently zero standards when it comes to sidewalk cuisine.

According to the caption, Yuno has a habit of randomly snacking on things he finds during walks. To put an end to his culinary adventures, his dog mom created a sort of mesh hood that wraps around his head and prevents him from gobbling up mystery items from the street.

Related: Spoiled Persian Cat Stands Up Like a Human to Demand His Second Breakfast Like a King

The result?

Yuno looks less like a Dachshund and more like a tiny beekeeper who made some questionable career choices.

And the funniest part is that even with the mesh in place, you can still see him trying.

The comments section was absolutely losing it.

"Not him demonstrating why he needs it," one viewer joked.

"Me on my new weight loss program," another person wrote.

One fellow dog parent admitted, "I need this. Mine eats everything, dirt, rocks, acorns, wood chips and other things I can't mention."

Another viewer perfectly summed up the struggle by saying, "No because it is this serious. I'm tired of touching random chicken bones."

And perhaps my favorite comment simply called it the "Net of Shame."

Meanwhile, one eagle eyed viewer noticed dirt and little twigs stuck to the mesh around Yuno's mouth and wrote, "You know he is still giving it the old college try!"

Honestly, as funny as the video is, every dog parent understands the fear of seeing your dog vacuum something horrifying off the sidewalk before you can react.

Because apparently some dogs hear "leave it" and interpret it as a suggestion.

Why Some Dogs Eat Everything They Find

Dogs explore the world with their noses and mouths, which is why many puppies and curious breeds develop a habit of picking up random objects during walks.

Training commands like "leave it" and "drop it" can help, but management is equally important. Preventing access to potentially dangerous items like chicken bones, trash or toxic foods can help keep adventurous pups safe.

In other words, Yuno may look ridiculous.

But his mom might actually be a genius.

Maine Coon Mom Turns Into the Ultimate 'Helicopter Parent' the Second a Kitten Wanders Off

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 8:20am

There are all different types of human moms, and that also goes for cat moms.

We see this firsthand in a new, humorous yet sweet video that shows the differences between Maine Coon mom cats, who recently both gave birth to litters of kittens.

For any helicopter parents out there, the Maine Coon mom cat's behavior will be very relatable.

@wildmane_mainecoons

Helicopter mom vs the carefree mom #mainecoon #mamacat #cutekitten #catsoftiktok #newbornkitten

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoons

Even though Stormi, the Maine Coon mom, isn't the biological mother of this kitten, she still feels very protective of this little explorer and is very concerned that she has wandered away from the pack.

Her sense of worry is so adorable!

The kitten's actual mom is way too distracted, feeding her other babies and just trying to get some rest, so she can't watch this one little kitten.

Different styles of parenting, for sure!

Related: Maine Coon and the ‘Son He Didn’t Ask For’ Share the Silliest Bond

Are Maine Coons More Protective Than Other Cat Breeds?

Maine Coon cats aren't known to be more protective than other cat breeds, but they do have a very strong sense of loyalty, which can manifest into strong, protective instincts, especially for their young and their humans.

According to Maine-coon-cat-nation.com, they are very loyal to their humans.

These kitties will follow their parent from room to room, position themselves between you and someone visiting, or face the door when they sit near you.

These are all typical traits of cat loyalty.

If they feel their human is being threatened, they may step in front of you, but even though they are quite large, they aren't the same as a guard dog, so don't expect them to pounce on an intruder.

When it comes to their young, the females have strong maternal instincts and are known for their intensive grooming sessions, and as we can see with Stormi, they keep a very close eye on kittens during those early weeks of life—even if they are another mama's babies.

Footless Cat Sees His Favorite Person and Immediately Forgets He Has No Feet Because Love Does That

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 8:15am

Special needs cats have a remarkable way of proving that happiness doesn't always look the way people expect. One sweet rescue cat named Mr. Toe Beans is showing the internet that love, trust and pure excitement matter a whole lot more than having perfectly normal paws.

Videos of disabled cats often capture hearts because they remind us just how adaptable animals can be. And judging by Mr. Toe Beans' reaction whenever his favorite human appears, this little guy is far too busy being loved to worry about silly things like feet.

@the.footless.cat

Mr. Toe Bean’s favorite person in the world is his dad. This is a typical reaction of him getting excited when his dad starts walking across the room toward him #cat #rescue #dad #cute #catsoftiktok

According to the caption, this is his completely normal reaction whenever Dad starts walking across the room toward him.

It's almost too sweet to handle.

The video shows Mr. Toe Beans lying in his cat bed before suddenly turning into what I can only describe as a furry wiggle worm.

He starts rubbing his entire body against the sides of the bed, squirming around with pure joy like a toddler who just spotted Mickey Mouse.

At one point, I swear this cat becomes approximately 97 percent excitement and only 3 percent actual cat.

He doesn't seem concerned about the fact that he doesn't have feet.

He's busy.

His dad is here.

The comments section completely fell in love. @the.footless.cat

We get a lot of questions about Mr. Toe Bean’s mobility and how he gets around. He can go anywhere on this rug or soft surfaces— he has a unique way of moving himself around and uses his longest limb a lot to balance #cat #rescue #mobility #kitten #cute

♬ Fight Song - Rachel Platten

• "So much love in that tiny cat heart."

• "Such a precious baby."

• "You are so loving and precious. You are stealing everyone's hearts."

• "So cute! He doesn't know he has no feet, he's just a happy kitty who loves his dad!"

• "He has ikkle kitty stumps."

Honestly, that last comment made me laugh.

Because Mr. Toe Beans isn't sitting around feeling sorry for himself.

He's out here aggressively loving his dad with his whole entire body.

And frankly, I think we should all aspire to love people with this level of enthusiasm.

Cats with disabilities often adapt remarkably well and can live happy, fulfilling lives. Many special needs cats are just as playful, affectionate and loving as any other cat.

With supportive pet parents and a safe environment, disabled cats frequently thrive and form incredibly strong bonds with their families.

And if Mr. Toe Beans has taught us anything, it's that love doesn't care how many toes you have.

Poisoned Street Dog Fighting for Survival Gives the Sweetest Sign of Hope

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 7:10am

Niall Harbison saves thousands of street dogs through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. The animal advocate has seen canines suffering from emotional and physical abuse, as well as serious illness and injuries.

Espresso is Harbison's most recent rescue. The sweet Dachshund mix was the victim of poisoning and showed amazing strength in her battle to survive.

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram video from @niall.harbison told Espresso's story and how Harbison and his team were against the clock to save her life.

"At first, locals and the authorities told us that she had been poisoned so it was a race to empty her stomach and try and keep her alive," the caption explained as a rescuer tended to the convulsing dog. "The team had been battling for the last 24 hours and it was very much touch and go."

Though there were moments when the medical team thought they would lose the tiny pooch, the vets and techs were able to pull her through. Once she was able to rest, Espresso made a heartwarming gesture that showed she wasn't giving up.

"Today we've seen some amazing progress, and her first tail wag!" the story continued as Espresso gently swished her tail. "She's been undergoing a series of tests to eliminate any possible poisons and she's also been analyzed on her brain. Whatever happened, this dog has definitely had a massive trauma, but she seems to be just about through the worst of it."

Espresso Is in Wonderful Hands

The canine cutie is just beginning her healing journey, yet she already shows signs of her resilient spirit.

"It's way too early for her to regain use of her limbs yet, but it was good to see that she was able to lift her head today," the caption reports. "This is very much a dog who wants to live and wants to get better, but her body just won't let her yet. There is so much fight left in her though."

The entire Happy Doggo team is completely committed to Espresso's recovery. Harbison named her after the caffeinated beverage to reflect her rich coat and bright spirit.

"I called her Espresso because she looked dark with a little hint of coffee on her, and then I thought I'd give her her full name of Espresso Martini," he noted. "I would say her road to recovery will take weeks, but the medical team are hopeful after her first 24 hours of progress that there might just be a future for this beautiful little girl."

7 Heartfelt Signs Your Cat Feels Truly Connected to You, Says a Vet

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 5:10am

There's no denying that cats are mysterious creatures. Sometimes, they're watching our every move. The next minute, they're peeling off to an unknown corner of our homes, not to be seen again until dinner time. Because of this, if you're a cat parent, you may start to wonder whether of not your cat loves you given their hot-and-cold behavior. To help you know how your cat feels about you, we rounded up 7 heartfelt signs your cat feels truly connected to you, according to a vet.

After all it's not that felines aren't expressive, it's just easy for people to miss when their cat communicates love and affection. "Cats are often seen as independent or even loners, usually because they don’t show affection in the same way that dogs do," shares Dr. Chyrle Bonk, DVM, an Embrace Pet Insurance veterinarian contributor. "But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t capable of forming strong bonds with their humans. They just have a different way of showing it."

A cat isn't going to wag their tail to say, "I'm happy you're home." Instead, cats have more subtle ways of letting you know, "You're my human." If you want to know how to decode your pet, keep reading to find out what some cat bonding signs are. That way, you see how how close you and your furry companion are.

How do you know if your cat is really attached to you? Kitties don't express themselves quite as obviously as their canine counterparts. Instead, you'll need to play a bit of detective to uncover the heartfelt signs your cat feels truly connected to you. Below, Dr. Bonk shares what to look for when studying (and bonding with) your cat.

1. They gaze softly at you

What does it mean when your cat gazes into your eyes? If the expression is soft, it's essentially your cat's way of sending you heart-eye emojis and communicating that they have a bond with you.

"When a cat is relaxed and content, they often sit or lie down comfortably, dozing," Dr. Bonk points out. "This may also include passively staring out the window or even at you. A soft gaze from a cat often indicates that they feel comfortable in your presence and that you contribute to a feeling of relaxation."

2. They come bearing gifts

One of the most surprising signs your cat loves you may show up at your feet in the form of a “gift”—a toy, a sock, or some other prized household treasure. While it may seem random , this behavior can be a meaningful clue about the cat-owner bond you share.

"Cats are naturally communal animals that share resources and actively teach others how to survive," Dr. Bonk states. "Bringing you gifts, may be their way of showing you that you are part of their clan and that they can provide for you."

These moments are often rooted in cat affection and social bonding behaviors that strengthen their connection with their human.

3. They stay in rooms you walk into

If you are your cat's favorite person, their body language will reveal it. "Cats often show their independence by going where they want when they want," Dr. Bonk says. "Choosing to stay in the room with you shows that they have accepted your company and feel comfortable when you’re around."

Though, don't be offended if your cat doesn't start following you to the bathroom or come over for snuggles. "Even though they may not make direct contact, being in close proximity still means they feel a connection with you," Dr. Bonk reassures us.

4. They rub against you

One of the most unmistakable signs your cat cares about you is when they actively seek you out for physical contact, especially by rubbing against your legs, hands, or face. This simple gesture is a powerful expression of cat affection and a key part of a cat-owner bond.

"It allows them to show affection for you while spreading pheromones from glands located on their face and head, as well as their tail area," Dr. Bonk reports. "These pheromones give you your cat’s signature scent, claiming you as their own. It also gives them a chance to smell out where you’ve been that day, as well as who you’ve encountered."

In other words, when your cat rubs against you, it’s more than just a sweet moment—it’s one of the clearest signs your cat trusts you and feels secure enough to mix their scent with yours, reinforcing a deep emotional connection.

Related: 10 Signs Your Cat is Emotionally Attached to You, Says an Expert

5. They 'knead' on you

Sometimes signs your cat loves you can be easy to miss for pet parents. Kneading–or "making biscuits" on you is one of those instances. If your cat presses their paws rhythmically into your lap or chest, it’s a strong indicator of comfort and cat affection.

"Kneading is a natural cat behavior that starts in kittenhood," Dr. Bonk explains. "Kittens knead their mother’s stomach in order to help stimulate milk letdown, and the motion helps promote calmness and relaxation. Adult cats may knead you in a similar fashion to show that you make them feel calm and secure."

6. They purr in your presence

Why do cats purr? Purring is actually deeply instinctual. Dr. Bonk explains that kittens are born deaf and blind, and mother cats can only communicate with them through touch.

"Purring is something that kittens can feel and later hear that helps them find their mother," Dr. Bonk says. "Later in life, it is also used as a way to help them feel secure and content."

7. Thy Sleep in your lap

THere's nothing sweeter than when your furry companion sunggles up on you. Lap kitties are totally a thing, and it's a heartfelt sign your cat feels truly connected to you if they choose your legs as their pillow.

"A cat is at their most vulnerable when they are asleep, so they are careful not to do it just anywhere," Dr. Bonk states. "Sleeping in your lap or even anywhere near you shows that they feel secure and comfortable in your presence. This means that your cat likely trusts you to protect them."

Pet Tortoise Goes Viral for Absolutely Twerking When Wet—Internet Calls It His “Shower Shimmy”

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 5:02am

When this tortoise gets wet, something absolutely adorable happens. His human has been watching it get more and more impressive every year. The internet watched it happen once and immediately had the perfect name for it.

The TikTok from @dear.figgcaptures the whole thing with a caption that says everything: "They get faster every year too 😂"

This is Fig. He’s a leopard tortoise with the most beautiful shell covered in bold black markings and creamy yellow spots that look exactly like a leopard's coat. They’re one of the largest tortoise species in the world. Also, when wet, completely unhinged in the best possible way.

When the rain falls or the water starts spraying, Fig doesn’t just stand there. He moves. He shimmies. He goes for it so hard that one commenter correctly identified it as twerking. The dance has been evolving for years. This year's version is apparently the best one yet.

@dear.figg

The get faster every year too 😂 #tortoise #turtle #cuteanimals

♬ original sound - dear.figg

One fan added something important: "Have you seen those brushes that they can rub their shells on? They love it." Even without water, Fig is a creature with strong reactions to  being touched. That shimmy he’s doing is just one part of a much more robust personality.

The comments came in fast:

"Not him twerking"

"The shower shimmy 💃"

"Just dancing through the rain"

"Turtle got some moves"

"Not him twerking" is the whole video in three words. The internet named the move and Fig has not disputed it.

But the shimmy is more than just a funny TikTok. Fig is actually telling you something.

Why Do Tortoises Move Like That—and What Is Your Tortoise Actually Telling You?

Turns out this is a whole thing in the tortoise world and it is almost always good news.

According to Turtle Pet Guide, tortoises ‘dance’ for several different reasons and it's usually "a sign of a healthy and active turtle."

Getting wet is one of their biggest triggers. Tortoises are really sensitive to moisture on their skin and shells that creates this immediate dance. When rain or water hits, the body just reacts and it can look a lot like dancing.

Related: Precious Twin Maine Coon Kittens Moving in Unison Are the Ultimate Little Princesses

The shell reaction is totally real. Tortoises can feel every single thing that touches their shell. They have nerve endings in there. When something makes contact in just the right spot they sometimes start moving around to get more of it, which is exactly the energy Fig brings to a brush or a good rain.

As for getting faster and better every year? Turtle Pet Guide says tortoises respond to the people and environment around them. Years of being loved and cared for by the

same person tends to bring out more of a tortoise's personality over time.

The source is pretty clear about what to do if your tortoise is doing this: let it happen. It is personality. It is happiness. It is Fig saying he is doing great.

He has been working on this shimmy for years.

He just keeps getting better.

Bulldog Is Convinced the Baby's Play Sink Is His Own Personal Water Bowl

Thu, 06/18/2026 - 4:15am

Jupiter, a big, beautiful, deaf Bulldog is full of personality. So full of personality that his family has helped him build a following over over 384k followers over on TikTok. People love following along for Jupiter's antics, of which there are many.

Recently, Jupiter's humans shared how he hilariously has taken to "playing" with the baby and the new play sink in the home.

Clearly, Jupiter did not read the instruction manual for the play sink.

@jupiterthebulldog

Baby and bulldog are happy- that’s all that matters I suppose.🤣 #jupiterthebulldog #playsink #tiktokshop

♬ original sound - Jupiter

Social media users had a blast watching Jupiter "claim" the play sink in his own way and sounded off in the comment section:

"Got a drink...grabbed a banana...he's good..😂"

"Baby is happy, doggie is happy, life is good 💙💙"

"haha stealing the banana and walking away lol"

As evidenced by the caption on the viral video, baby and bulldog are both happy, and that is all that matters.

Why Bulldogs Have Quirky Personalities

Bulldogs are known and beloved for their silly, goofy, individualistic personalities. Their breeding was specified more-so for being a companion and buddy type of dog, rather than a working dog. The bulldog's distinct breeding also contributed to their body types: low to the ground, stocky and sturdy, and large, square heads. This leads to their "couch potato" and lazy demeanor, making them better suited for a laidback household rather than one with lots of "go go go."

Some personality traits that pop out in Bulldogs can include:

  • Stubbornness or difficult streaks
  • Being dramatic and having "big feelings"
  • Finding silly moments and being "comedians"
  • Extreme loyalty and affection
  • Expressive faces and reactions

If you're in the market for a dog unlike any other, a Bulldog may be the one for you! Just be aware that any body of water, even if originally intended for baby, is fair game.
