Before a baby arrives, someone will tell you to practice swaddling. What they will not tell you is what to practice on. Jupiter's mama figured out a practical solution all on her own. The solution weighed 80 pounds and was already at home.

The TikTok from @jupiterthebulldog captures the whole thing. The caption: "& then he loved it and y'all loved it so it became a daily thing. 🤣" His mom's text overlay says it plainly: she needed to practice swaddling before her baby arrived and she used her 80-pound bulldog.

Jupiter had no idea what was about to happen.

Meet Jupiter. He is an English Bulldog, predominantly white with red markings and built like a very warm, very happy piece of furniture. He’s what people affectionately refer to as a chunka monka boy and that tracks. He is 80 pounds of hefty, hearty and ready-for-anything energy and his mama's willing assistant for any task at all. There’s no job too small. No job too big. And, no job too embarrassing, including this one.

First, the Arkansas Razorback blanket came out. A large throw blanket was needed because Jupiter is not quite as small as he might imagine. Things needed adjusting almost immediately. "We're just gonna do it between your legs because you’re a little big." The tucking happened. The folding happened. The diamond fold was attempted with full commitment. When it was all over, Jupiter's little feet were still popping out the bottom.

Then, mama earnestly asked: "I have swaddled you. How do you feel?"

Jupiter accepted the whole thing with complete calmness.

"You're a beautiful baby boy."

He absolutely was. He is. The swaddle worked perfectly ( almost). At least mom wasn’t practicing diapering. Thankful for small mercies.

What started as nervous preparation became something much better. Jupiter loved every second of it. The routine stuck. A daily ritual and a little extra time with his mama before the new baby arrives. That is the kind of dog he is.

Science Says Your Dog Has Been Training You for Parenthood All Along

Turns out practicing on Jupiter makes a lot more sense than it sounds.

According to research from Shelly Volsche, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Boise State University, humans are actually hardwired to take care of others. Not just their own children. Others in general. Volsche found that this same instinct to care for beings who are not biologically ours flows naturally toward the animals living in our homes.

Her research looked at nearly a thousand people and found that dog and cat parents across the board reported high levels of training, play and care with their animals. People without human children were especially likely to use words like "mom" and "kids" when talking about their pets and to see them as real individuals. The connection was not make-believe. It was genuine.

As Volsche reminds us, "who and when we parent is much more flexible than you might initially believe."

So no, practicing swaddling on your English Bulldog is not weird at all. It’s just how humans are built. You needed to nurture something. Jupiter was there. The blanket was big enough.

After a few more months of daily practice Jupiter's mom will be a pro. Jupiter gets a little extra one-on-one time with his mama before the baby comes. He’s been getting her ready for this all along.

He just weighs 80 pounds and his feet stick out.

Why Cats Are Drawn to Babies and Young Children

For any cat and new baby moms, this video is quite relatable.

The video starts with a joke: Angel's mom pretends to ask herself whether she mowed the lawn today and looks surprised, but it's obvious. Why was it obvious? Well... Why Dogs Love Rolling in Grass, and What Pet Parents Should Watch Out For

Angel looks like she had a fun time outside after the grass had been cut, and even though we can't see exactly what she did, it's pretty clear the little one rolled around in the cut grass, given she's fully green. But why do dogs love to roll in the grass? Well, a few reasons. 

According to PetMD, it's totally normal for dogs to roll around in the grass, and there are a few reasons why your pup might like it. One reason, the site explains, is that it's a good way for pups to scratch their backs. Dogs can't reach their backs, so rolling around can be a way to scratch an itch, or just to give them the feeling they love. It can be particularly enjoyable after the lawn is cut because there may be sharper edges to reach the hard-to-itch spots. 

Other reasons a pooch might roll around in the grass include covering up another animal's scent, masking their own scent, or communicating through scent.

If your dog is rolling around in the grass, keep an eye on them to see if they're doing it more for fun than because something is irritating them, like an itch. PetMD also says that if you do let your pup roll around outside in grass, it's a good idea to have them on flea and tick prevention medication to make sure those don't become an issue. 

Also, if you have a white dog like Angel, be aware that they can temporarily turn green if they roll in wet, freshly cut grass.

Dogs and cats living under the same roof often bond over time. Sometimes the friendships take a while to form, where others happen instantaneously. Usually, the more confident and forward of the two fur babies makes the first move toward companionship.

Radio is a tiny rescue kitten with a whole lot of energy, and she recently introduced herself to Iago, a blind senior dog who just moved into Old Souls Animal Rescue. Needless to say, the pretty kitty left Iago a bit speechless.

In the TikTok from @oldsoulsanimalres, Iago was calmly eating a snack in a cozy room filled with toys and blankets. The senior pooch recently moved into the rescue and was still finding his way around.

Radio took it upon himself to make sure Iago felt at home and immediately attempted to strike up some sort of game. The kitten playfully pounced toward Iago and bounced around while the canine cutie tried to eat. Since Iago can't see, he may have thought he was surrounded by a mini tornado by the way Radio was acting.

The feline fur baby got so caught up in his own excitement, he tumbled a few times before getting back up and starting his makeshift getting-to-know-you game with Iago.

Though he was the new kid on the block and still unfamiliar with the rescue, Iago took Radio's antics in stride. Apparently, the precious pooch is very gentle and already making new friends.

Why Cats Groom Each Other

So why do cats groom each other?

Is it just about hygiene? Or could it be more complex than that? Is it about social dominance, emotional bonding, or could it actually be a source of aggression?

When one cat grooms another, it's called allogrooming, and many animals participate in this ritual, including monkeys, birds, horses, and bees.

Though the ancestors of cats were often solo hunters, living on their own, today cats aren't only in domesticated, multi-cat households but also in feral cat colonies, forming social hierarchies and pecking orders.

A 2004 paper published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery found that allogrooming was an important part of the socialization of felines in feral cat colonies.

Some kitties would actively seek out allogrooming from cats with whom they had close relationships.

From the study: "The recipient of the allogrooming is typically highly cooperative, tilting
and rotating its head to provide access to the groomer, and often purring. A cat may solicit allogrooming by approaching another cat and flexing its neck, exposing the dorsal surface and side of the head to the cat being solicited. Allogrooming is more frequent between preferred associates than between non-preferred associates. Allogrooming may or may not be immediately reciprocated."

The TikTok from @franflight told Sky's story and why she's back at the shelter.

"Seven years ago, Sky had her happy ending," the onscreen text shared. "She's 11 now and back at the shelter due to no fault of her own. Sky's previous parent passed away."

A NAWS staff member spent some time with Sky in the hopes of getting the pretty kitty to come out of her shell, and noted the challenge of getting an older cat adopted. Yet Sky offers so much to any family willing to give her a chance.

"As a senior cat, she will be overlooked, no matter how sweet and gentle she is," the story continued. "She can be a little shy but once she trusts you, she seeks out the love she has previously known."

Sky Hopes for a Forever Home

The feline fur baby has a sweet and gentle personality, and can even be silly at times once she feels safe. Other than being a touch overweight and having minor arthritis in her spine, Sky is very healthy and good with other calm cats. She would do best in a quiet home.

"She just needs to find her person," the onscreen text explained as the staff member snuggled with Sky in her lap. The loving feline seemed to absorb every ounce of affection she was given.

In the video, he puts himself to bed at Grandma’s house like the most perfect little child anyone has ever seen. No fuss. No chaos. No bedtime committee required. He just heads off like he understands the schedule and respects the household rules.

Stefanie Kirk clearly lucked out in this department. That dog knows exactly what she's doing, and she's not willing to go easy on any animal at all. Though Stefanie never said exactly what the predator actually was, commenters figured out that it's a Fox Squirrel.

Was it the biggest predator of all time? No, but that's not what matters: it's the instinct that does. She wasted no time getting up and chasing it as far away from the farm as she could, no matter what it was. That's exactly what a good dog should do!

Abbey's social media love story didn't end when Ed retired. Despite the initial confusion when the darling Golden Retriever continued going outside to wait for her favorite driver, Mom says Ed handpicked Ron to be Abbey's new UPS friend because he knew Ron was "the perfect replacement!"

Ron seamlessly took over Ed's former duties and seems to understand the high honor of this role. That's a good thing because Abbey has been captivating fans with her love and devotion for Ed for a long time now. People have been clamoring for a "pupdate" since the last post in May, so this hits the spot!

According to his pet parents, Orion and his brother were adopted from a cat cafe after spending an entire year together, moving through multiple shelters and a foster home. Despite having only three teeth when they adopted him, Orion has never let that slow him down.

In fact, while his humans have tried offering him wet food, the little guy apparently prefers crunchy kibble.

According to Taylor Eden, this puppy is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a "Cow Dog," which is another name for the Australian Cattle Dog. Now, they ended up with a litter of little black puppies who just look like Golden Retrievers!

The TikTok from @peggyadamsarl told Snow's story and why he was brought to the shelter.

"Snow is four years old and came to the shelter through no fault of his own," the caption explained. "His family’s landlord said he wasn’t welcome."

Wally the golden retriever doesn’t have an emotional support animal. Wally IS someone's emotional support animal. His mama just figured this out.

The day started off with a bang. Wally woke up already about to throw up. Fortunately, he didn't throw up. However, it didn’t matter. The morning was already ruined and he refused to get out of bed until his human reminded him that his Auntie Hannah had slept over. He turned his frown upside down immediately.

Things got even more complicated in the car. Wally has one signature move: side-to-side window sniffing, switching windows every five seconds. But with Auntie Hannah in the car, he could only pick one window. One single window. He wasn’t happy about it. She bought him a pup cup to make up for the inconvenience.

On the outing, Wally discovered there were people at the coffee cart who required his immediate physical attention. He had to be airlifted to reach them. Then came the stupendous sprinklers. He was having fun right up until the moment his ears got wet. A brand new fear was unlocked that day. In the end, it was every dog for himself. Wally shoved Auntie Hannah out of the way to claim the air conditioner on the drive home.

Once back, his human told him he could lay down wherever he wanted. He found this to be deeply unhelpful. The burden of choice was too much for him.

Dogs are highly observant and often respond to subtle patterns in your behavior more than we realize. These small moments build familiarity, trust, and a sense of security in their daily life. Below are some of the everyday things your dog notices that can make them feel especially loved and connected to you.

If You Keep a Consistent Schedule

Schedules can admittedly seem boring, but not to your pet. “For dogs, a routine creates trust and reassurance that their needs will be met, causing them to worry less,” Farah explains. “When food and water, walks, playtime, and love all come when the dog expects them to, it reduces their stress.”

When your dog knows that  breakfast happens within an hour of waking up and dinner is served when you get home from work, they don’t need to spend every unoccupied minute of the day looking for a way into the trash, Farah points out. “Consistency keeps everyone happier,” she says. So before you change your pet's routine, know it's something your dog pays attention to and having it stay the same makes your dog feel loved.

When You Make Regular Time for Walks 

One thing your dog notices you do for them is setting aside time each day for a solid walk or two, which is crucial for your pet’s wellbeing—and they appreciate it.

“Walks are important opportunities for dogs to gather information about their surroundings,” Farah says. That can include doing everything from figuring out the cause of that sound they keep hearing to knowing where that big dog lives that keeps passing by the house, she says. 

When You Set Aside Time for Daily Playtime

Playtime is one of the first behaviors that gets left behind when a pet parent is busy, Farah says. When that happens, your pup realizes it and it starts to keeps you from having an emotional connection with your pet.

“Play means expending energy for something other than survival, and that’s a luxury,” Farah states. "Asking your dog to play with you is basically like a friend walking up and handing you the bigger half of their sandwich. Dogs know play is a great way to express trust, love and build deeper bonds, so if they offer, take them up on it."

If You Get Down On Their Level

Another action you do that means a lot to your dog is when you kneel down so you're standng standing over them. It may seem small, but it's a bonding behavior in your dog's eyes.

“Dogs know we’re not dogs, but many do love it when we get on their level and play,” Farah says. She points out that they really appreciate it when you kneel or sit down to connect with them instead of making them stretch their necks to see you.

When You Give Them Focused Attention

According to Farah, dogs learn to crave your attention right away. That's why getting it is one of the most rewarding things for them.

“One of the biggest gifts you can give them is to set everything else aside and give them your full attention,” Farah says.

Your Dog Notices Your Tone of Voice

Your dog may not understand all the words you say, but they do understand your tone. That's why how you speak to your pup matters and why it can make or break your human-dog bond.

“Dogs learn early on that our tone predicts our behavior,” Farah notes. “That’s why people can say bad things in a light tone and our dogs respond as though we’re singing their praises. Keeping your tone positive lets your dog know that they’re safe around you."

Your Body Language and If You're Relaxed

"Dogs can struggle to relax around people who don’t make them feel comfortable. But if you have a chill vibe with your pet, it can help them feel laidback and happy," says Vivienne Moore, trainer and owner of Walkies Dog Behaviour & Training.

So keep that in mind as your pup can mirror your emotions, which you may have never picked up on before.

If You Take Them on Sniff Walks

Letting your pup take the lead and sniff around when you walk is huge for your pup. However, if you are always in a rush when you take them outside, they notice your behavior. That's why it's important to realize that it's something that gives your dog joy.

“A scent or sound that may have been faint from inside the house now has a source,” Farah says. “A dog’s sense of smell is nearly beyond our comprehension, and using it is a great enrichment exercise for them.”

How You Groom Them

Did you know that gentle grooming sessions can make your pet feel at ease and loved, according to Alexandra Bassett, CPDT-KA, lead dog trainer at Dog Savvy Positive Dog Training. “Things like brushing, ear rubs, gentle massage, wiping paws or helping remove burrs and tangles can create feelings of comfort, safety and trust when done slowly and respectfully,” she says. 

When You Have Conversations with Them

"While your dog doesn’t get everything you say, they do understand your tone and emotional energy," Bassett says. For that reason, talking to them can be a comforting experience for your pet and something you do as their dog parent that they notice each day. “They’re listening more than people sometimes realize,” Bassett says.

TikTok user Clementine (@persianclemi) shared a video of a very cute, very grouchy black Persian kitten named Clementine. She's adorable, small, and like a big ball of fur with her striking bright yellow eyes. If you just saw her sitting still, it would be very easy to fall in love with Clementine. 

But Clementine is feeling a little spicy this morning, and even with her adorable, fuzzy face, you can very easily see that she's mad. She's grouchy, and she's not one to just sit there and grin and bear it. 

While her dad is brushing her fur, which absolutely must be done, Clementine looks like she would rather be almost anywhere else doing anything other than getting groomed. You know she keeps life fun for her parents.

Why Regular Grooming Is Essential for Long-Haired Cats Like Persians

Clementine, the Persian cat, isn't exactly enjoying this grooming session with her dad, but since she's a long-haired kitty, it's important to make sure she gets regular grooming. 

According to PetPlan UK, Persian cats are among the oldest cat breeds in the world, and they're pretty easy to identify thanks to their unique faces and long, fuzzy coats. And because their fur is so long and thick, it's important that grooming and coat care be done regularly. 

Persians have "soft, shiny fur," and while their fur strands are pretty fine, there's just so much of it. These cats can have a double or triple coat, which means they could have frizzy hair under the smoother top layer of fur. 

PetPlan UK also explains that with the sheer amount of hair Persians have, with coats being so dense and thick, plus how much they shed, Persian cat parents should expect to brush their pet every day. And starting this process and routine when they're a young kitten will make daily grooming easier and a sweet way to bond each day. 

While Clementine may not sit still when being brushed, she at least seems resolved to understand that it's important. And her grumpy face is so cute.
