'Below Deck' Star's Ex-Fiancée Responds to Cheating Allegations in Rare Statement
Below Deck chef Ben Robinson's former fiancée Kiara Cabral is speaking out following allegations that she was unfaithful during their four-year relationship, after he proposed in 2023.
"Everything Ben has said about me on the show is 100% false," she said in a Feb. 20 TikTok video, which is the first time she's spoken on the situation publicly. "I have never and I would never be romantically involved with any of his friends. That's not the kind of person I am."

Cabral claimed that she was the one to end the relationship "because of the way [Robinson] was treating her," and Robinson's alleged "narcissism."
"There was a lot of trauma I had to deal with from that relationship and honestly, I just want it to be over," she said. Though she's since "healed" from, their breakup and hopes Robinson has too, his comments in recently aired episodes of Below Deck are "opening up a lot of scars."
"I know the show that is airing now was probably filmed a while ago," she said. "But now that it's airing and I'm being demonized, it is really hard on me... I just really want to be in peace."
As to why she decided to speak out now, nearly two years after their split, despite "talking about her feels on camera" not coming "easily" to her? "I am sick [of] feeling like I don’t have a voice when it comes to my own life, and now I would really like to just move on," she wrote in the caption of the video, adding that the renewed attention has caused an "immense amount of anxiety."

‘90s Country Icon Nearly Died After Getting Shot by His Wife 32 Years Ago Today
Trace Adkins has had his fair share of near-death experiences, from working on an oil rig and nearly losing his legs to getting stranded in a hurricane long before his claim to country music fame.
But it was back in 1994, 32 years ago, on Feb. 21, when the 6’6” country music icon took a bullet straight through the heart and both of his lungs. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency open-heart surgery.

Adkins’ injury happened during a domestic dispute with his second ex-wife, according to People, who, at the time, was Julie Curtis. The pair had been arguing over the “Just Fishin’” singer’s excessive bouts with alcohol. During the violent altercation, Adkins had tried to disarm Curtis but was unsuccessful.
He Did Not Press ChargesSurprisingly, Adkins opted not to press charges, despite having to continue to receive regular heart checkups to make sure everything is OK.
"It wasn't my time to go," Adkins reflected during an interview with People. "It was painful, but it didn't sear my memory. The physical pain — broken bones and surgeries and bullets and getting beaten up and cut — has never really bothered me. I have a high tolerance for it. It's the broken hearts that left the deepest scars."
He Recently Announced a Headlining TourThese days, Adkins can live to tell the story. He has also moved on from his former relationship and is happily married to Canadian actress Victoria Pratt, whom he wed in the fall of 2019.

In a heartbreaking post shared to Instagram on Saturday, Barbie (2023) and Now You See Me: Now You Don't (2025) star Ariana Greenblatt honored Eric Dane following his tragic death at the age of 53 from ALS.
The video shows a young Ariana sitting on Dane's lap in a recording studio as he works on a song, with who seems to be Ariana's father — the actor and producer Shon Greenblatt — behind the camera. Them & I's "I'm Not Them" (2025) plays in the background.

Dane was diagnosed in early 2025 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and his health quickly deteriorated until his death on Feb. 19. The Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star was a beloved actor who touched the lives of many over the course of his 35-year career.
Diplo Bikes Dangerous Miami Highway to Make Olympics Flight, Records the Chaos
If Diplo says he’ll make his flight, he means it—even if it requires a peddle bike and a freeway.
The DJ (whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz) shared an Instagram video of himself racing to catch a flight to the 2026 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony on Saturday, February 21, presumably recorded the day before. Not in a car, but on a Citi Bike. According to the clip, he initially thought he’d grabbed an e-bike. He had not.
The video opens with text reading, “I almost missed my flight to the olympics,” before Diplo, 47, explains, “so im making this flight. I thought Citi bikes were e-bikes, they were not, it's a peddle bike.” What followed was a chaotic sprint through Miami traffic, including stretches of busy highway that were very clearly “definitely not a bike lane,” as he put it.

Eventually, he rolls up to the airport, out of breath. “That was f**king hard,” he admitted. The next cut shows him transformed into a fresh outfit, sunglasses on, sipping what appears to be champagne mid-flight. The final message: “see you at the closing ceremony with Major Lazer.”
The stunt feels on-brand for Diplo, who is known for his extreme fitness routines and his famous run club. And fans certainly got a kick out of his journey in the comments.
“Diplo 50k bike club up next?” one fan joked, while another noted, “you are so nonchalant at this game of life.”
One stated, “If they gave gold medalist to DJs, I think you’d win something.”

Sandra Hüller has been all over German cinema for years and finally earned a well-deserved Oscar nomination just two years back.
In 2023, she starred in two Academy Award-winning films — Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest — and has now received yet another prestigious honor.
Her latest movie Rose recently premiered at this year's Berlin Film Festival, where Hüller, 47, just took home the gender-neutral Best Leading Performance award for her acclaimed turn as a 17th-century woman living as a man in director Markus Schleinzer’s historical tragedy, Variety reports.

Who Is Zack Jaghoub? The Man the Internet Linked to Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance Speaks to Parade
If you've been following the Nancy Guthrie case, you will probably recognize the name Zack Jaghoub. Here's why.
Guthrie, 84, went missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, and authorities believe that she may have been abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night. On February 13, a raid took place at a home not too far from Guthrie's home. Additionally, authorities detained a man who was driving a Range Rover. The car was marked with "evidence" tape and towed at the request of law enforcement on the scene.
The internet looked at photos and videos of the Range Rover and noticed that there was a license plate cover on the car from MG Motors in Tucson. From there, some people went to the MG Motors Instagram page, found a photo of a Range Rover—from September 2025—went through the likes on the post, and found Jaghoub. Some people also noticed that the account was following Jaghoub, whom some people say looks like he could be the person under the ski mask of the subject standing on Guthrie's front stoop the night that she went missing.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, Jaghoub spoke exclusively with Parade in an effort to clear his name after more than a week of harassment and nasty messages from people accusing him of crimes he knew nothing about.
Jaghoub, 40, did, in fact, work at MG Motors in Tucson, which is owned by his friends. However, he tells me that he's living in Jordan and hasn't lived in the United States since 2019.
"I'm gonna be honest with you. These people are stupid," Jaghoub said. "They don't have, like, a sure confirmation that Zack drove that Range Rover or owned that Range Rover. There's no documents, there's no papers. I'm not even inside the country."
"People are just listening to YouTubers or some people, that don't know anything," he adds, explaining how his name was brought up after the Range Rover was taken into evidence for reasons that weren't made clear to the public.
Jaghoub tells me that authorities never spoke with him and that his name seems to be circulating thanks to social media users jumping to conclusions because he appears to fit the bill—he has a goatee, and some say his eyes look similar to the person in the mask standing at Guthrie's front door. Jaghoub, however, doesn't see it. At all.
Jaghoub also points out that the Range Rover that's on the MG Motors Instagram account isn't even the same type of car, let alone the actual car from the police activity on February 13.
View this post on InstagramI asked Jaghoub if he had even heard of the Guthrie case prior to receiving messages from people trying to pin him to the crime scene. He hadn't.
"I know one thing, I slept on Friday, I woke up on Saturday. I found myself [with] thousands of people following me on Instagram, adding me on Facebook, they're adding me on Snapchat for no reason. People sending me messages [saying] 'you are guilty. You are this, you are dead,'" he said.
Jaghoub said that people ran with the rumor that someone shot themselves in the Culver's parking lot, and they believed it was him. He said he didn't know anything about that raid, or that particular Range Rover, or a "white van" that was seen nearby.
"I didn't sell the car, I didn't own the car. Nobody pulled me over. People saying that the sheriff pulled me over. There's other people that said I killed myself, I shot myself inside a white van. I don't know what the white van is. Still, until this minute, as I told you, they're talking about me," he said.
Jakhoub said that authorities did go to MG Motors on Saturday and spoke with the owners, but his name was never brought up.
The Guthrie case is heading into its fourth week and authorities have yet to name a suspect or person of interest.

He doesn’t respond so Alexia explains, “He’s my shy baby.”
“So he does sing,” John says.
“He does sing,” Alexia confirms.
“Who do you listen to Matthew?” John innocently asks.
“Maroon 5,” Matthew says when prompted by his mom.
Adam gets up, claps, celebrates with arm pumps, and then gives Matthew a fist bump.

“Look at him, he’s so pumped,” host Carson Daly points out.
“Oh, no that backfired,” John realizes.
“That was a great question,” Adam says.

“Honestly, I love you so much John,” Adam says. And then he gives Alexia his pitch, “You have that voice that motivates me even more to say, ‘This is the best voice in the competition. This is what has to win and we have to make the right choices. And I have that feeling that I don’t get often. I think we all do. You’re one of the best we’ve ever seen.”

'70s Rock Legend Sets the Record Straight on Health Rumors After Turning Down Van Halen Invite
Paul Rodgers, the legendary founding Bad Company frontman, gave fans an update on his health—and confirmed he was invited to work on an upcoming Van Halen project but declined.
On Feb. 21, the “Ready for Love” rocker, 76, posted to X and Instagram to assure fans that his health is fine months after he skipped his band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction at the last minute.
“To squash the rumours... My health is good,” Rodgers wrote. “I feel fit and strong and I am rehearsing to perform March 2nd at the Adopt the Arts Sound and Vision Awards in Palm Springs. Thanks to Van Halen for inviting me to work on a track with them, but I am in my acoustic, zen phase of life.”
Rodgers’ Van Halen mention came after Alex Van Halen confirmed he was working on a “collection of new recordings" featuring previously unheard material by his late brother Eddie, who died in October 2020 at age 65.
"I've been fortunate enough to have Steve Lukather, who was a good friend of Ed's, and we're working on putting a record together," Van Halen said during a recent interview with the YouTube channel KazaGastao. “The drums, the guitar, and the bass are already in there.”
Van Halen, who did not mention reuniting with past Van Halen singers David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar, also revealed that Rodgers turned down an offer to perform on the record. "It was very difficult for him to bring himself to say, 'No, I can't. Count me out," Van Halen said of the Bad Company singer. "I respect that."
Fans have been concerned about Rodgers ever since he bowed out of performing or even attending Bad Company’s long-overdue Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last year.
In a post to Instagram days before the November 2025 ceremony, Rodgers wrote, “My hope was to be at the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame induction ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time I have to prioritize my health. I have no problem singing, it's the stress of everything else."
During a 2023 interview with CBS Mornings, Rodgers revealed that he had suffered two major strokes in 2016 and 2019 and multiple minor strokes. The music legend underwent an endarterectomy, which posed a serious risk to his vocal cords. Six months later, he was able to sing and play guitar again.
“Each thing was a step forward,” the Bad Company rocker shared. “Each thing that I did was an achievement … 'Oh, I can do this. I can sing.’”

Gabourey Sidibe’s husband, Brandon Frankel, shared a personal and important message via social media concerning his health.
“Things I never thought I’d have to post: I was diagnosed with Stage I Papillary Thyroid cancer. I found it very early because I pushed for an ultrasound my doctor didn’t think I needed,” Frankel began on Instagram on Friday, February 20.
He went on to list the various ways he advocated for himself, writing, “I refused to 'wait and see.’ I refused to come back in 6–9 months. I made the calls. I leveraged connections. I chased cancellations. I made a LOT of noise. It worked.”
Frankel confirmed that his surgery “went well” and that he’s “okay for now,” before discussing the importance of early detection.

The father of two also addressed the many flaws in America's healthcare system.
“Healthcare shouldn’t reward the loudest, the most connected, or the most financially secure. It shouldn’t require strategy, privilege, and stamina just to feel safe,” he reasoned. “My wife carried our family through all of this—holding everything down while I handled appointments, surgery, and recovery. I don’t know how anyone does this without that kind of love and support. I’m grateful. I’m lucky. But luck and means shouldn’t be a healthcare plan. The system is broken. Healthcare should be a basic human right. PLEASE advocate for yourself, and be proactive!”

The Swedish melodic death metal band has officially added 12 European club shows to its 2026 touring schedule, expanding what was already shaping up to be a major year on the road. James Van Der Beek’s Wife Kimberly Reflects on His Friendship With Eric Dane After Their Deaths
James Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, mourned his friend Eric Dane after the actors died within one week of each other.
Kimberly, 43, shared a throwback photo via her Instagram Story on Saturday, February 21. In the picture, she and James posed alongside Dane, his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and the pair’s daughters, Billie and Georgia, on the red carpet at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles in June 2017.
“RIP @realericdane,” Kimberly wrote. “We love you @rebeccagayheartdane.”
Kimberly then reflected on James’ friendship with Dane prior to their deaths as she addressed Gayheart, 54.
“Will miss our guys laughing at Christmas parties together,” she added.
Gayheart later reposted Kimberly's message, responding, "So much love for you."
James died on February 11 after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023. The Dawson’s Creek alum was 48.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” Kimberly said in a statement shared via Instagram on the day of his death. “He met his final days with courage, faith and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.”
James and Kimberly had been married since August 2010 and renewed their wedding vows shortly before his death. The couple shared six children: Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 7, and Jeremiah, 4.
Eight days after James’ death, Dane died on Thursday, February 19, at age 53. The Grey’s Anatomy alum had announced his ALS diagnosis less than one year earlier in April 2025.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family said in a statement to Parade at the time. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
The statement continued: “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Dane and Gayheart—whose daughters Billie and Georgia are now 15 and 14, respectively—separated in 2018 after 13 years of marriage. However, she withdrew her divorce filing in March 2025 amid his health battle. That November, Gayheart explained on the “Broad Ideas” podcast that she wanted to teach her kids how to be there for their family even “when times are at their worst.”
“We tell them, ‘We show up for people no matter what. He is our family. He is your father,’” she elaborated. “We will get through it the best we can.”
’70s Rock Band Announces Update Before 2026 Tour
The lineup for the Hollywood Bowl's 2026 season was released earlier this week, and fans of '70s American rock music will be excited to see that ZZ Top is one of the scheduled performers listed on the calendar.
The band is scheduled to take the stage at the iconic Los Angeles concert venue on Aug. 5 with special guest Cheap Trick.
Tickets are currently only available to recurring Hollywood Bowl season pass holders, however individual concert tickets will go up for sale starting in May, according to the Hollywood Bowl website. Those who purchase any 2026 season subscription package will be eligible to access tickets during an early pre-sale, as well as a 20% discount on select shows.

William Anthony Colón Román, better known as Willie Colón, has died. He was 75 years old.
Colón, an American salsa legend, trailblazing trombonist, vocalist, and composer, passed away today in New York City. The news was confirmed in a statement released by his family.
“While we grieve his absence, we also rejoice in the timeless gift of his music and the cherished memories he created that will live on forever,” the family shared on Colón’s Facebook page.
Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Colón was behind dozens of albums, including La Gran Fuga (The Big Break) in 1970 and El Juicio (The Judgment) 1972. Perhaps his most influential album, Siembre (Snowing), was recorded and released with Rubén Blades in 1978 and remains a landmark work in salsa music.
Blades shared an emotional post in Instagram.
“I have just confirmed what I was resisting to believe: Willie Colón has indeed passed away. To his wife Julia, his children, family, and loved ones, I send my heartfelt condolences. Later, and with calm, I will write about Willie and his vital and important musical legacy,” he wrote.
In the last year of his life, Colon collaborated with Bad Bunny on the star’s music video for “Nuevayol,” even referencing the legend and his first album in the lyrics. The partnership served as a bridge between generations, highlighting the enduring legacy of Colon.

According to Colón's biography on the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association website, Colón signed with record label Fania at age 15 and released his first album, El Mal, two years later. The album sold more than 300,000 copies. A jazz, rock, and salsa musician, Colón was known to blend rhythms of traditional music from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Africa into his songs.
In 2004, Colón received a lifetime achievement award from the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, per CNN. The organization honored him on Instagram.
“Today, we bid farewell with deep sadness to salsa legend Willie Colón — singer-songwriter, trombonist, arranger, and producer — recognized with our Award for Musical Excellence,” the institution wrote. “His legacy transformed salsa by turning it into a global phenomenon, establishing a sound and aesthetic that defined an era and continues to inspire generations of artists. Rest in peace.”
Per his bio, Colón was also an avid social activist, member of the Latino Commission on AIDS and the United Nations Immigrant Foundation, and a board member at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
Colón's cause of death has not been released.

‘Straight Down the Middle’: Bing Crosby’s Classic Song Headlines the Genesis Invitational — With a Dark Twist
Bing Crosby’s classic golf tune, "Straight Down the Middle," is back in the spotlight this weekend at the Genesis Invitational. The song celebrates Crosby’s love of the game, but there’s a dark twist: the legendary singer suffered a heart attack after playing 18 holes of golf back in October 1977. Fans will undoubtedly be fascinated by the contrast between the cheerful anthem and the sobering reality of Crosby’s life, making the tune as compelling today as it was decades ago.
It may seem like a no-brainer that Crosby was a big fan of golf, since he has a song about it. The track, which was written by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn, was recorded by Crosby in 1957. What some people may not realize is that Crosby actually died from a heart attack that he suffered after playing 18 holes.
"Swinging Bing" was 73-years-old when he died. In an obituary posted by the Los Angeles Times, Crosby "collapsed while walking to the locker room at the La Moraleja golf club [in Madrid] after completing an 18-hole round."
Throughout the round, Crosby appeared to be in good spirits.
“We had just finished the 18th hole and were walking toward the clubhouse when Bing had a seizure and fell," Spanish professional golfer Valentin Barrios said at the time. "We thought he had just slipped. He injured his head slightly when he fell. We took him into the clubhouse and he was given oxygen and cardiac tonic injections, but nothing could be done. Bing has shown no signs of fatigue. He was happy and singing as we went around the course."
There are rumors that Crosby said something about playing golf and getting beer after the round, but Barrios said that Crosby died without uttering any last words.
Crosby's wife, Kathryn, spoke to the media following her husband's death.
"I can’t think of any better way for a golfer who sings for a living to finish the round," she said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "He’s always been a very simple man. I think he is remembered in songs, isn’t he? I think that’s the way it should be," she continued, adding that she was told that her husband had a "very good round" before he died.
"I’d like that to be said," she added.
Crosby was survived by his wife, his seven kids (from two marriages), and, of course, the game of golf.

I Tried 10 Garlic-Peeling Hacks—This One Is My Forever Favorite
Garlic and I go way back. I’m Italian American, I cook constantly and I measure garlic with my heart. A recipe calls for two cloves? I hear four. Sometimes six. It's the backbone of how I cook—sautéed low and slow for pasta, smashed into paste for garlic bread, sliced razor-thin (Goodfellas-style), or roasted until it’s sweet and jammy. I love everything about garlic—except peeling it.
That feeling intensifies when I’m prepping for a holiday meal, like the Feast of the Seven Fishes (Italian American Christmas Eve) or Easter Sunday. For that traditional spring dinner, I need garlic for the antipasto'sroasted peppers and chickpea salad and for the main course: roasted lamb, baked artichoke hearts and sautéed broccoli rabe.
There's garlic everywhere, in every form, demanding to be peeled, processed and ready before any food even hits the stove. Those papery skins cling stubbornly to the cloves (and my hands), little bits get stuck under my nails and while one clove peels cleanly, the next explodes into flaky chaos. By the second bulb, the mess multiplies, and those skins start to feel like a personal attack.
And I know I’m not alone in this struggle. Chef Cara Mangini, author of The Vegetable Eater, tells Parade, “I don’t love peeling garlic, and I know many people feel the same.”
And sure, there are store-bought shortcuts. You can buy loose cloves instead of whole heads or even pre-peeled garlic if convenience is the goal—though flavor purists have strong opinions. As for jarlic, the already-chopped stuff in a jar soaking in citric acid? I won’t even mention it. (I know I just did, but I won’t use it.) Most of us end up at the cutting board with a whole bulb anyway, because it’s cheaper, fresher and undeniably better.
Over the years, I’ve heard every promise imaginable: Just smash it, soak it, shake it, microwave it, just buy this gadget and your problems will disappear forever. Some of these tips sound genuinely clever—others feel like dares someone lost in a test kitchen. And yet, every time I’m at my cutting board surrounded by garlic skins, I find myself wondering: Is there a better way?
So, I decided to stop guessing, stop half-believing internet “wisdom,” and put 10 methods to the test to learn how to peel garlic fast. I worked my way through dozens and dozens of cloves, then ranked these tricks worst to best. Here's how everything shook out.

Garlic skins are thin, dry and cling tightly to the clove beneath—especially when the garlic is fresh. (Ironically, fresher garlic is often harder to peel.) Most hacks aim to solve this by cracking the skin, introducing moisture or heat or creating enough friction to break that bond.
I chose these methods because they’re the most recommended across cookbooks, kitchens, the internet and my social media feed—and because each claims to make peeling garlic faster, cleaner or easier.

How I Tested These Garlic-Peeling MethodsCourtesy Jo Ann Liguori
First, I had to break up the heads of garlic. To do this, I followed the advice of culinary icon Lidia Bastianich—the beloved TV host, restaurateur and Italian cooking authority (her newest cookbook is Lidia’s The Art of Pasta): “Set on a sturdy wooden cutting board,” she explains. “Place the flat side (the larger part of the blade) of a chef’s knife on the garlic, hold the knife firmly, and whack it with the palm of your other hand.”
I tested all methods (except the one that starts with a whole head) using six individual garlic cloves with intact skins. I used garlic bought at the same time for consistency. With the stopwatch on my phone, I timed how long it took to peel all six cloves using each method. I also factored in effort, effectiveness and whether the clove stayed intact and figured all of that into my rankings—because speed isn’t everything if you completely destroy the garlic or make a huge sticky mess in the process.
One caveat: The age of the garlic will likely affect how well each method works for you (as fresher cloves cling more tightly to their skins), so you might have more (or less) success with each hack than I did.

10 Garlic-Peeling Hacks, Ranked Worst To BestHere are the results, ranked from worst (barely worth the effort) to best (the ones that made me wonder why I’ve ever bothered peeling garlic any other way).

A brief zap (about 10 seconds) in the microwave causes steam to build under the skin, separating it from the clove. And it works: The peel slides right off. The downside? Heat. You’re partially cooking the garlic, which can affect flavor and texture if you need it raw, which I often do. Because of the way the quick cooking impacted the garlic, this was a hard pass for me.

This method has you press down hard on the clove with the heel of your palm until you feel the skin crack. It’s quick, tool-free and surprisingly effective if you get the pressure right. The problem is finding that sweet spot: too light and nothing happens; too hard and you’ve smashed the clove. I struggled with consistency; maybe someone with bigger, stronger hands would have better luck.

Fun fact: I’d already wrapped up my very scientific testing, but once I saw this TikTok video from chef Jackie Bakula, I had to head back into the lab (er, kitchen) and try it. The idea is to stab a paring knife into a garlic clove while it’s still attached to the head, then twist to pull it out.
For me, the results were hit-or-miss. Some cloves popped out clean and intact; others emerged in pieces, with garlic flesh stubbornly clinging to the bulb. I also didn’t love that I couldn't really tell if the trick was working until the clove popped out—or didn't. It felt less like a hack and more like a gamble.

Food blogger Lauren Casolaro’s method involves cutting off the root end, keeping the knife in place, and rolling the clove away from its skin. When I tried it, the skin on the bottom of the clove peeled off on its own, but I had to peel off the rest by hand. I didn’t find this to be a time-saver, and everything (the board, my fingers, the knife) ended up sticky anyway.

Chef Bob Morano’s hack is to soak garlic cloves in water for about 15 minutes, letting moisture seep between the skin and the clove. And it works: With a gentle rub, the skins slide right off. If pure effectiveness were the only factor, this would rank higher—but time matters.
So, unless you’re multitasking with other prep, waiting 15 minutes doesn’t save much time. Plus, the garlic is now wet, so you’ve got to dry it off before proceeding with your recipe. BTW: I tried this with both cold and warm water; there was almost no difference in results, but I would imagine that if the water is too warm, the heat could affect the garlic’s texture.

I was curious to know how a garlic-specific gadget might fare, so I picked up this popular tool. You drop a clove inside the tube, press down, roll it firmly on the cutting board—and the skin separates cleanly. It’s not lightning-fast (you can only do a clove or two at a time), but it’s tidy, reliable and keeps that garlic smell off your hands.
Downsides: You’ve really got to exert pressure for it to work well. Also, you’ve got to ask yourself whether you need another single-use gadget taking up drawer space, plus you’ve got something else to clean.

If you want neat slices rather than crushed garlic, trimming the root end can help release the skin. Mangini says, “Trim the root end of the garlic, then lightly dig a paring knife just under the skin to carefully release it.” This creates entry points where you can peel from both sides rather than fight the middle.
This is easy and pretty effective, but you’re adding knife work before you even start peeling, and the skins don’t always cooperate. Also, it’s wasteful, as you’re sacrificing the pieces of actual garlic at the ends.

This is a trick for bulk prep that even Ina Garten endorses. Boil water, drop the cloves in for 15 seconds, then plunge them into an ice bath (15 seconds). The skins slide off effortlessly, leaving the cloves intact. I found it to be a really good way to peel a lot of garlic quickly.
Even though this method and nuking it both involve heating the garlic to some extent, I didn't find that blanching affected the texture at all (though zapping it in the microwave definitely did).
Drawback: You've got to take the time to boil the water and prepare an ice bath and dry off the garlic before continuing with the recipe. The setup time could be worth it, though, depending on the volume of garlic you're working with.

This method is famous—and loud. In a viral video from more than a decade ago, Todd Coleman (then executive food editor at Saveur) demonstrated sandwiching garlic cloves between two metal bowls of equal size and vigorously shaking them for 10 seconds.
The result? It worked: The skins came off completely. All these years later, Coleman still prefers this method: “There’s no better way,” he tells Parade, “as long as the garlic is dry and hasn’t been stored for too long in the fridge.”
Thomas Perone, the chef/owner of Brooklyn Roots Italian and The Corner in Brooklyn, NY, agrees: “I love the bowl trick,” he says. Bonus? The mess is self-contained: All the peels stay in the bowl.
I also tried a variation of this: shaking the garlic in a glass jar. It was slower and less effective; the glass cushions the cloves, limiting their movement. So, there’s more shaking for less payoff.
This method is a quick way to process a pile of garlic. The only downside is that you're dirtying two bowls. It might not be a go-to way for prepping a few cloves, but it's definitely a solid technique and can also help you release some tension if things are getting heated in the kitchen.

This classic way to peel garlic has always been my go-to; it’s also the method of choice for Bastianich and other chefs I spoke to.
Top Chef alum Nini Nguyen says, “After separating the cloves, I place a clove on the cutting board and give it a firm smash with the flat side of my knife. The peel usually slips right off, no special tools needed.”
It can also give your food a boost. “When the knife hits the garlic, it extracts even more flavor,” Perone explains.
It’s fast, reliable and satisfying. The drawback is that, if you’re processing a ton of garlic, your hands will get sticky. Also, the clove is slightly crushed—so if you’re looking for attractive, (kinda) uniform slices, it’s not the way to go. But if you’re chopping or mincing anyway, crushing the clove a bit is a bonus. At the end of the day, if I had to choose just one garlic-peeling method, this is the one for me.
After all this testing, I’m feeling pretty vindicated in my loyalty to the chef’s-knife method. Sure, the bowl-shaking trick can peel a lot of garlic in a hurry, but I don’t think it's worth the effort (or the racket) for a single clove or even a couple. For that, I’ll stick with the old trusty knife smash. But come EasterSunday—or another garlic-heavy cooking marathon—I'll break out the metal bowls.
