Elton John’s 'Candle in the Wind' Turned 52 Today — and Twice Changed Music History

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 6:06am

FIfty-two years ago today—Feb. 22, 1974— Sir Elton John released “Candle in the Wind” as a single. It was a song that would grow from a tribute to Marilyn Monroe into one of the most culturally significant recordings of the modern era.

Written by John and his frequent collaborator lyricist Bernie Taupin, the original version appeared on John’s landmark 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The lyrics were inspired by Monroe, who had died 11 years earlier. The opening line, “Goodbye, Norma Jean,” references the actress’ birth name, Norma Jeane Mortenson.

Taupin later explained in an interview with the BBC that the phrase “candle in the wind” stuck with him after hearing Clive Davis use it while speaking about Janis Joplin. “I just kept hearing this term [and] I thought, what a great way of describing someone’s life,” Taupin said.

Though the 1974 single peaked at No. 11 in the U.K. and reached the Top 10 in several other countries, its legacy extended far beyond its original chart run.

In 1997, following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, Elton performed a rewritten version titled “Candle in the Wind 1997,” also known as “Goodbye England’s Rose.” That recording became a global phenomenon. According to Guinness World Records, the 1997 version is the second-highest-selling physical single of all time, behind Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas," and the highest-selling single released since charts began in the 1950s.

Taupin has said the song was never meant to be solely about Monroe, but about “the idea of fame or youth or somebody being cut short in the prime of their life.” He later clarified, “She was just a metaphor for fame and dying young.”

Over five decades later, “Candle in the Wind” remains one of the most enduring examples of the songwriting partnership between John and Taupin—a heartbreaking song about fame, fragility and the way the world immortalizes those lost too soon.

Should You Get Balayage or Highlights in 2026? A Pro Hairstylist Weighs In

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 6:05am

Switching up your hair color is one of the easiest ways to breathe fresh air into your look if you're craving a change. Of course, settling on the perfect hue is easier said than done, and between balayage vs. highlights, what can best help you ease into a new look without fully committing to a totally new color?

If you're not sure how to tell the difference between the two popular services, you're not alone. Parade consulted a pro hairstylist who specializes in hair color to find out whether you should get highlights or balayage, depending on what your mane goals are and if you have blonde or brown hair. Chrissy Carrozza-Fox is a hairstylist, global educator and Drop Dead Extensions elite artist who works with the brand Danger Jones Balayage.

So, before you book that salon appointment, read on to learn what to ask your stylist for when you plop down in their chair. To help get you started, we asked Carrozza-Fox to break down the different types of highlights vs. balayage to choose from, and explain the pros and cons of each method (along with show some side by side examples!). Plus, she's sharing her tips for maintaining your new hue once you get back home.

What Is Balayage?

If you've heard the term balayage before but aren't exactly sure what it is, Carrozza-Fox is offering a simple explanation and sharing insight into the hair color trend: "Balayage is a hand-painted technique that gives soft dimension and a lived-in, lower-maintenance result," she says.

4 Popular Types of Balayage

There are several types of balayage you can ask for when you arrive at the salon.

"Balayage is incredibly versatile and allows you to get different results based on tones and techniques applied," Carrozza-Fox tells Parade.

  • Classic balayage: "This method gives the perfect sun-kissed look. The subtlety of this technique is ideal for dipping your toes into balayage for the first time," the stylist says.
  • Lived-In: "It's rooty and seamless. This is the best choice for low-maintenance color and longer time between appointments," the color pro notes.
  • High contrast: "It's bold but blendy with a darker root and brighter blonde. This is my personal favorite. Think ribbons of dimension in your hair," Carrozza-Fox says.
  • Reverse balayage: "Think blonde going brunette for this one. It's mostly lowlights with a darker gloss," she says.

What Are Highlights?

Highlights are distinctly different from balayage, per Carrozza-Fox.

"Highlights use foils to create close-to-the-scalp, or multi-colored dimension in the hair. Touch-ups are needed more often with this placement," the stylist says.

3 Popular Types of Highlights

Similar to balayage, there are a few types of highlights you can ask for at the salon.

Per Carrozza-Fox, these are the most requested highlight techniques:

  • Baby lights: "This method gives the most natural-looking result. It's created with super fine, thin weaves," she says, adding that this approach gives you "the most overall blonde" look in the least amount of time.
  • Chunky weave: "This offers high-impact dimension that pops with distinct placement of light and dark colors," she says.
  • Highlight with heavy face frame: Carrozza-Fox notes that this option is a classic highlight with an added heavy face frame.

Balayage vs. Highlights: What's the Difference?

Not sure which method is right for you? Carrozza-Fox explains that balayage and highlights differ "in both application and outcome."

"Balayage is about softness and longevity. Hand-painting creates a modern, lived-in result that diffuses grow-out and gives you a more low-maintenance color," she says. "Highlights deliver precision-placed, defined blonde coverage. The brightness and contrast typically require more frequent upkeep for the 'just got my color done' look."

Who Should Consider Getting Balayage?

According to Carrozza-Fox, balayage is typically perfect for darker hair colors.

"If you’re brunette and still want to feel brunette with a pop of dimension, you’re the perfect candidate for balayage," she explains. "By keeping the brighter pieces on the mid to ends only, you will still feel brunette but dimensional."

Who Should Consider Getting Highlights?

On the other hand, highlights are ideal for lighter hair colors.

"If you’re looking to go much brighter or be a bold blonde, I recommend highlights—balayage won’t get you to that ‘as blonde as possible’ finish in most cases," Carrozza-Fox says. "And though there is more commitment involved with highlights, you can always add a root shadow to soften the root area and add longevity."

How To Maintain Balayage and Highlights

Once you leave the salon, making sure your hair color continues to look fabulous is the next step. Per Carrozza-Fox, maintenance varies by technique.

Salon Services

"For highlights, I recommend a fresh blonding service every eight to 12 weeks," she says. "Balayage clients can stretch a little longer and go every 12 to 16 weeks for their blonding retouch."

Another way to extend the life of your color? A glossing service.

"I recommend a mid-way glossing service for both techniques to keep the shine and tone fresh," she says.

At-home Maintenance

In between salon appointments, at-home maintenance is also critical. For instance, Carrozza-Fox recommends investing in shampoos that are suited for your hair color.

"Purple shampoo is a great option—Killer Blonde Purple Shampoo and Conditioner by Danger Jones is what I send clients home with because it does not dry out the hair and will keep blondes bright," she says.

Carnival’s Brand Ambassador Has a Direct Message for Passengers Offended by This Viral Tradition

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 6:03am

Carnival Cruise Line's brand ambassador,John Heald, has once again waded into the debate over "cruising ducks," making it clear that despite some passengers' objections, the popular tradition is staying on board.

In a recent video response to a passenger offended by finding ducks—specifically citing concerns about germs and religious motifs—Heald took a firm stance. He stated that if passengers don't like them, they can simply "walk on by," reaffirming that the line has no plans to ban the practice.

"I never thought I would be using the words within the cruise industry 'disease-riddled rubber ducks.' says Heald in a Facebook Live video.....I can’t say what another cruise line is or isn’t doing....Is this a case of seeing someone has hidden a duck and you just walk on by. It’s a duck. Walk on by. They’re not disease-riddled, they’re just little ducks, and they bring joy to people, and we’re not going to ban them. Duck it. Just walk on by."

View this post on Instagram The "No Ban" Policy

While other cruise lines have tightened the leash on rubber ducks, Carnival remains one of their strongest supporters.

  • Carnival’s Stance: Heald has consistently defended the practice as a way of "spreading joy" and connecting passengers, noting that it is a passenger-driven and entirely optional activity.
  • No Solicitation: While hiding ducks is allowed, Carnival does have a rule against using them for solicitation. Heald previously confirmed that attaching business cards or advertisements to ducks is not permitted.
  • The "Litter" Debate: Critics often argue that the ducks are simply "trash or litter" or germ-ridden, but Heald insists that for many, they add a lighthearted bit of fun to the vacation experience.

Where the Ducks Have Been Banned

Carnival’s "walk on by" attitude stands in contrast to other major lines that have restricted or discouraged the practice due to environmental and safety concerns.

  • Royal Caribbean: The line recently banned the hiding of ducks in Central Park on its Oasis and Icon-class ships to protect the thousands of live plants and flowers that passengers were trampling during their searches.
  • Disney Cruise Line: Disney officially discourages hiding items like ducks in public areas or staterooms. Despite being the most "Duck-friendly" brand in theory (thanks to Donald), the line prefers to keep public spaces clear for its own cast and character interactions.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line: NCL has also moved to discourage the practice in recent years, citing similar concerns over litter and safety.

Past Drama: The "Fake Drink Ticket" Scam

Carnival's patience has been tested before—specifically by a prank that took the "fun" out of the game. In late 2025, Heald had to issue an impassioned plea for guests to stop attaching fake free drink tickets to ducks.

These ducks featured a fake Carnival whale tail logo and promised finders a free drink at the casino bar. Heald noted that the scam was "not fair" to guests who were pranked or to the bartenders who had to break the news that the promotion was invalid.

Milo Ventimiglia Says Filming 'I Can Only Imagine 2' Was 'Terrifying'—Here’s Why

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 6:03am

I Can Only Imagine 2 is officially in theaters with Milo Ventimiglia starring as Christian singer Tim Timmons in the true story about the power of friendship and faith in the face of an incurable diagnosis. Over the course of his career, Ventimiglia has played a wide range of roles—including a literary bad boy, a superhero and a beloved dad. But I Can Only Imagine 2 sees him entering uncharted territory: For the first time, he's singing and playing guitar on the big screen.

The biographical sequel centers on the incredible true story behind MercyMe's 2017 hit "Even If" and focuses on the deep bond between the band's lead singer—Bart Millard—and Timmons, the musician whose 25-year battle with cancer serves as the film’s emotional core. Ventimiglia's performance brings the story to life on the big screen, showcasing how a message of hope can emerge even from the most difficult of circumstances.

In this exclusive interview, Ventimiglia and Timmons share the journey of both preparing for the role and filming it. "I put him through extensive training and he nailed it," the "Starts With Me" singer says. Read on to see what Ventimiglia had to say about the role and why it was "terrifying."

Tim Timmons and Milo Ventimiglia attend the 'I Can Only Imagine 2' premiere in Nashville.

Parade: So Milo, you get to actually sing in this film. What was that like?

Milo Ventimiglia: Terrifying. Singing and guitar playing and kick drum with a heel tambourine is not in my bag of tricks! So I kind of had to learn all that, but I had a wonderful teacher [Timmons] that helped me polish everything, and I understood that I didn't have to learn how to play guitar. I had to learn how to play three songs really well, and then vocally, like I took lessons and I went through coaching and all that.

Tim Timmons: He nailed it!

What was the rock star training like?

Timmons: I put him through extensive training.

Ventimiglia: He did.

Timmons: I mean, we did underwater things where he had to hold his breath for a while!

Ventimiglia: Moving a rock!

Timmons: He had to learn so much. I mean—poor guy! Literally, I play the kick drum, a tambourine with my heel, guitar, harmonium, and sing—and get a crowd clapping. He did all that, which is really wild. He did great.

Ventimiglia: But Tim also taught me that there's 14 different ways to play one note, which I didn't understand—

Timmons: I'm not proud of my teaching ability!

Ventimiglia: But your encouragement was awesome. Because along the way, as he's just ripping out like three or four or five or 10 different ways to play the single note, you just kept encouraging me: "You're doing so great! You're doing so good!"

So Milo, is there any more music in your future? Are we going to see an album?

Timmons: Thank you!

Ventimiglia: Absolutely not!

Timmons: A Christmas record?

Ventimiglia: Nobody needs that. No, I'm never gonna be on the top charts with a Christmas album. I take them as they come. You know, if all of a sudden somebody says, "Hey, we want you back behind a guitar or piano or whatever, then I will put myself—I'm calling Tim. I'm literally going to him: "Hey coach. What are we doing? Let's go in the pool, do some rock breathing."

Tell me about the performance scene.

Ventimiglia: We were at TPAC—which is a venue in Nashville, Tennessee—and there were 2,500 background actors that were just kind of people that were invited. Like, "Hey, do you want to be a part of MercyMe and I Can Only Imagine 2? Come on by and sit in the audience."

And Tim got up and sang, Bart sang—Sammy Dell got up and played some music. But when the cameras were rolling, I had to perform. We were doing "Everywhere I Go" in front of 2,500 people. And the Band-Aid was off. It had to go—and it was a very thrilling moment of my life.

I Can Only Imagine 2 is in theaters now. Watch the trailer below!

1977 Hit Written in 6 Minutes Changed Pop Culture Forever

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 5:39am

In 1977, a singer-songwriter wrote a lighthearted song in just six minutes, and it went on to become a pop culture phenomenon that shaped his career for decades.

Jimmy Buffett was inspired to write "Margaritaville" in the latter part of the 1970s. He told Ellen DeGeneres in 2005 that the song's creation was just "one of those six-minute wonders that you hear about, but it actually happened to me."

"I was in Austin, Texas. It was a hot day," Buffett recalled. "I was in a bar."

"I can't even remember the name of the bar," Buffett continued. He said he had a margarita and it tasted good, before he got on a plane to return to his home in Key West, Florida.

"I continued the research [at the bar]," he added. "And I went home and wrote it."

The Library of Congress reported that the song was inspired not only by his experiences at the bar, but also by a breakup with a woman he was dating. She drove him to the airport and it was there he began writing the now-infamous song, saying, “I was going to call it ‘Wasting Away Again in Austin, Texasville.’”

The tune was released in 1977 on Buffett’s seventh album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. "Margaritaville" would reach No. 8 on Billboard and remain on the charts for 23 weeks.

In 2016, "Margaritaville" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Per the website, songs included on the list are honored for their "lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Inductees are selected annually by a special member committee of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the recording arts."

The fun anthem would go on to define Buffett's professional career. The entertainer capitalized on the song's popularity in many successful ways.

These included hugely successful Margaritaville-themed restaurants and stores, as well as resorts, merchandise, and clothing. There are also stores, bars, food, casinos, a Broadway musical, and even retirement communities associated with the brand, per Florida Today.

The brand's official website further shared details of Buffett's empire built on a song about a delicious alcoholic beverage. It wrote that Buffett's "original idea for Margaritaville was to expand the opportunity for as many people to experience the lifestyle immortalized in his iconic song as possible."

It concluded, "Where is Margaritaville? It's in your mind."

After a career that spanned five-decades, Jimmy Buffett died on September 6, 2023. He was 76.

10 Pizza Hut Items From the '90s That Need to Come Back (Especially the Bigfoot)

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 5:15am

In the 1990s, Pizza Hut wasn't just a place to grab dinner—it was an experience. From the iconic red-roof buildings to the checkered tablecloths and dim, cozy dining rooms with stained-glass light fixtures, Pizza Hut felt like the ultimate reward after a football game or a big test at school. Families gathered around sizzling pans, friends crowded into vinyl booths, and the promise of a Personal Pan Pizza from the Book It! program made reading feel like a delicious achievement.

Pizza Hut Menu Items from the '90s Fans Wish Would Make a Comeback

What made Pizza Hut so special in the '90s was the atmosphere as much as the food. The smell of freshly baked crust, the bubbling cheese served straight from the oven, and those unmistakable red plastic cups created a vibe that felt uniquely comforting. It was a time when dining out still felt like an occasion, and Pizza Hut mastered the art of turning a simple pizza night into a memory. Their menu was bold, fun and unapologetically indulgent—packed with creative crusts, over-the-top toppings and desserts that felt larger than life.

Today, that era lives on in pure nostalgia. The flavors, the decor, the commercials—they all remind us of a time when Friday night meant arcade games, stuffed-crust debates, loads of crushed red pepper flakes and grated Parmesan, and packing up leftovers in a big brown box before heading home. So let's take a trip back to the golden age of pizza and revisit 10 unforgettable '90s menu items we wish would make a comeback.

1. Book It! Reading Program (1990)

Pizza Hut's Book It! program, launched in 1984, was a reading incentive program for elementary school kids. Students set monthly reading goals with their teachers, and when met, they earned a certificate for a free Personal Pan Pizza. The program partnered directly with schools, making pizza a tangible reward for finishing books—a simple but powerful motivator that blended literacy with a personalized treat.

"The pan pizza was incredible. I was a Book It! kid, and that was one of my favorite things about childhood," said one person. "Same. Free pizza was a helluva motivator," replied another. "If they did Book It! for adults, I'd definitely be interested," stated one more person. While not a menu item, the Book It! incentive was one of the most iconic Pizza Hut memories of the '90s.

2. The Grand Pan Pizza (1990)

In the '90s, Pizza Hut's Grand Pan Pizza was marketed as a bigger, thicker and more indulgent take on its signature pan pizza. Baked in the brand's iconic deep-dish pans, it featured a buttery, crispy crust, a soft interior and generous layers of cheese, with up to 10 toppings. Positioned as a hearty option for big families and gatherings, the Grand Pan Pizza became part of the decade's dine-in pizza culture for just $9.99. "Back when Pizza Hut was good," said one Reddit commenter.

3. Sunday All-You-Can-Eat Buffet (1990)

The all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet at Pizza Hut in the '90s felt like peak weekend indulgence. Families would slide into a booth while the smell of buttery crust and marinara filled the air. The buffet table stayed stocked with pan pizzas—pepperoni with crispy edges, supreme piled high and those unforgettable cinnamon-sugar dessert slices. Kids made endless trips with red plastic cups in hand, while parents happily went back for "just one more slice." The rattling of arcade games and the steady swap of metal pans made it feel lively and special. It wasn't just a meal—it was a Sunday tradition.

Sadly, like many restaurants in the 2000s, Pizza Hut nixed the salad bar and buffet from its lineup due to rising operational and food costs, increased food waste and ultimately the COVID-19 pandemic. Most salad bars and buffets were phased out by the mid-2010s, with a few trickling out afterward. But fans still miss it like crazy. "It was an event going to one. Getting to make my own salad at the salad bar was the only reason I ate anything green," said one nostalgic Reddit user.

4. Double Cheeseburger Pizza (1990)

Pizza Hut's Double Cheeseburger Pizza felt like the perfect blending of kid-approved food, pairing pizza with cheeseburgers. Pizza Hut introduced this menu item in 1990, with fans immediately falling in love. It featured a generous helping of ground beef and extra cheese, and could be upgraded with crispy bacon for just $1. "You hear that, Dominos? Pizza Hut did the burger pizza concept first!" said one Pizza Hut lover.

5. All-You-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet (Early 1990s)

Similar to the Sunday buffet, Pizza Hut offered a lunch buffet Monday through Friday. With a variety of pizza, salad, pasta, breadsticks and soda, families could enjoy the all-you-can-eat buffet for just $3.99. It fit the need for a quick, convenient meal for the entire family, while also being budget-friendly—something modern-day families desperately miss. "That lunch all-you-can-eat deal! So much pizza and salad for under $5!" stated one fan.

6. Bigfoot (1993)

Perhaps the most iconic menu item of the time period was the Bigfoot Pizza. Introduced in 1993, the Bigfoot was an extra-long, rectangular pie designed to feed a crowd. Stretching nearly two feet in length and cut into multiple square slices, it was marketed as the ultimate party pizza—perfect for holidays, sleepovers, game nights and team celebrations. With its thick crust, generous toppings and outsized box, the Bigfoot became a symbol of '90s excess and fun, remembered today as one of the chain's most over-the-top creations.

"If you were a kid in the 90s there is no way you forgot about Bigfoot pizza," exclaimed a fan. "Pizza Hut would do so much damage if they brought this back! They should do it again just during the summer. Make it an annual thing like the McRib," stated another person.

7. The Neapolitan Pizza (1993)

The now-discontinued Neapolitan Pizza from Pizza Hut wasn't defined by its toppings, but by its distinct crust and sauce. The pie featured a thinner crust with a light dusting of cornmeal on the bottom and edges, and a slightly sweeter sauce than the chain's traditional offering. Tested regionally, it was positioned as a different style from Pizza Hut's signature pan pizza, though it wasn't an authentic Italian Neapolitan pizza. Instead, it was the brand's own spin on a thinner, crispier pie, and it remains a lesser-known but fondly remembered experiment from the era.

8. The Edge (1997)

The iconic 1997 "I have been to the edge and back" commercial showcased a novel concept for a pizza—there was no crust. The generously piled toppings reached all the way to the edge (hence the name), giving fans an extra dose of cheese, pepperoni, sausage and vegetables. While it didn't stick around long, it's hard to forget this pie. One person exclaimed, "It [had a] sweet sauce as the base and had this garlic and herb seasoning. It tasted like heaven."

9. Triple Deckeroni Pizza (1997)

Pizza Hut introduced the Triple Deckeroni Pizza in 1997, a bold pizza creation that stacked two layers of pepperoni and cheese between three crust layers. Essentially a stuffed, double-layer pizza, it featured a bottom crust, a middle layer packed with toppings and a top crust with even more pepperoni. Marketed as bigger, meatier and more indulgent than a standard pie, the Triple Deckeroni fit perfectly into the decade's "more is more" fast-food era and remains a cult favorite among '90s pizza fans who remember its gooey pull-apart layers.

"Used to work at Pizza Hut when this was launched. Been craving this..." said a former employee. "I remember this pizza as a kid in the '90s. I think it is the best pizza that Pizza Hut ever made," stated one more.

10. The Big New Yorker (1999)

In 1999, Pizza Hut launched the Big New Yorker, a large, foldable pizza inspired by classic New York–style slices. Unlike the chain's traditional thick pan crust, this pie featured a thinner, wider crust designed to be folded in half, like a street-corner slice in NYC. Cut into oversized pieces and typically topped with just cheese and pepperoni, the Big New Yorker was marketed with playful New York–themed ads and became a late '90s favorite.

"Maybe it's just that my taste [has] changed, but their pizza was so much better back then. I really don't like to eat there anymore. As a kid and throughout high school, I loved it. Especially the New Yorker," said one fan.

"I don't think companies fully understand the power of nostalgia. If even a dozen Pizza Huts erected (yes I know) new restaurants like a '90s one, they'd see a massive uprise in sales. Getting families to dine in would be a huge draw. God those red cups…" concluded a reminiscent fan.

The record-breaking budget isn't just for the coaster; it also covers an all-new plaza designed to represent a future where humans live in harmony with nature. Owen Yoshino, Senior Creative Director for Walt Disney Imagineering, notes that the overarching story is about "appreciating our home (Planet Earth)" and spreading awareness about caring for the environment.

Once the sun sets, the plaza will transform into an immersive world of light and soundscapes, offering guests a place to relax among design elements meant to inspire hope for the future.

Opening Dates to Watch

Travelers planning a trip to Tokyo should mark their calendars for 2027, when the new Space Mountain is scheduled to debut. But that isn't the only change coming to Tomorrowland. A new Wreck-It Ralph attraction—a $200 million reimagining of the former Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters space—is also slated to open in Spring 2027.

Drew Barrymore's Latest Move Is a Dream for Dessert Lovers

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 5:00am

There’s a delicious reason for fans to celebrate Drew Barrymore this month, and it involves buttercream.

Barrymore’s lifestyle brand, Beautiful by Drew Barrymore, is teaming up with beloved dessert destination Milk Bar to introduce a brand-new Buttercream Shortbread Baking Mix, bringing a little extra joy to kitchens everywhere.

The collaboration is rooted in something even sweeter than shortbread: Barrymore’s real-life friendship with Christina Tosi, Milk Bar’s award-winning founder. Inspired by their bond, the limited-time mix was designed to work seamlessly with Beautiful’s signature stand mixers, making homemade treats feel effortlessly fun.

The baking mix is made with real ingredients and contains no nuts or preservatives — perfect for those looking for a simple yet indulgent at-home dessert. Bakers only need to add a few staples — egg yolks and butter — to create a tray of rich, buttery shortbread.

The Beautiful by Drew Barrymore x Milk Bar Buttercream Shortbread Mix will be available for presale beginning Feb. 22 for $12.99, exclusively at MilkBarStore.com, with orders shipping March 11.

‘Gilmore Girls’ Star Explains the Secret Behind the Show’s Timeless Magic

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 4:50am

It’s been more than 25 years since Gilmore Girls first aired on the WB. Two decades later, the Stars Hollow-set series continues to gain new fans thanks to syndication and streaming.

In a February 2026 interview with Yahoo! Entertainment,Gilmore Girls alum Milo Ventimiglia, who played troubled teen Jess Mariano on the series, credited creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino for “writing an evergreen show” about a mother and daughter (Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel) that remains relevant today.

“For any of the smash-and-grab, headline-grabbing, salacious television or films out there that are blatantly trying to get attention through poor behavior — Gilmore was a bit of a wholesome show,” Ventimiglia, 48, shared. “It had its glory, had its struggles, but the messaging behind it about the connection between a mother and a daughter is important. The messaging behind, ‘Hey, strive to do something with your life,’ like higher education.”

“That idea of a young woman being educated, reading, being treated well, being treated with respect — I think those are things that are great to put in the world,” the actor continued.

Ventimiglia also gave a shout-out to all of the other characters that made Stars Hollow so quirky and special.

This isn’t the first time Ventimiglia has reflected on the lasting appeal of the beloved comedy-drama series.

In 2023, the actor told the AV Club that the continued popularity of Gilmore Girls for both old and new audiences was “remarkable.” “I think it shows how well the writing was architected, I think it shows how timeless the writing was, the show itself,” he added. “The inspiration that it gives to young girls I think is wonderful.”

Gilmore Girls premiered on The WB on Oct. 5, 2000, and ran for seven seasons. After Netflix added the series in 2014, the popularity surge led to a 2016 four-part mini-revival titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The revival reunited most of the original cast, including Ventimiglia.

Gilmore Girls co-star Scott Patterson, who played Ventimiglia’s character's uncle Luke Danes on the series, also spoke about the show’s lasting effect on audiences.

“The medicinal and therapeutic effects this show has on people are extraordinary, and it’s deep. I don’t know if Amy [Sherman-Palladino, creator] wants to hear it, but this show saves people, and it saves them on a daily basis,” Patterson told The Hollywood Reporter in 2025. “It soothes, heals, and gives people hope there are better times ahead, that there were better times in the past, and that we can have a better time in the present.”

This hoodie starts with Under Armour’s in-house Armour Fleece, a polyester fleece fabric that’s lightweight, breathable, and built with stretch, so it works just as well for workouts as it does for hanging out. The soft inner layer traps heat to keep you warm, and the drop-shoulder seams and side-vent hem give it a relaxed fit that’s great for layering.

This hoodie also holds up quite well, even if you’re washing it frequently: “I’ve washed this over 30 times, and the color has held true.” It’s worth noting that a handful of shoppers commented that your normal size will be roomier, so if you want a tighter fit and don’t plan to layer often, you should go a size down.

Refresh Your Home With These Expert-Approved Spring Decor Styles, Starting at Just $7

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 4:10am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Scrolling on social media, you've probably seen a fair amount of trendy decor influenced by various aesthetics — cottagecore, farmhouse, mid-century modern, vintage, whimsigoth, and botanical, to name a few. Each has its own unique vibe, and it can be hard to keep up with what's a fad that'll fade quickly and which styles have true staying power. To help you decipher the shifting trends before we head into spring, we checked in with interior design experts to learn which home decor styles are worth investing in.

"Spring 2026 interiors are defined by a soft but grounded palette paired with nostalgic, handcrafted details," said Katherine Cohen, Associate Creative Director at Interface, Inc., and its premium design brand FLOR. Cohen’s expertise stems from 12 years in the retail and home design sector, backed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Textiles Design.

The spring cleaning season is also prime time for decluttering. Yazmin Gutierrez, an award-winning Soho House designer and the Founder and Principal of Sentinium Design, a Los Angeles-based interior design studio, explained that the desire for a refresh also "happens in home decor trends."

Guierrez noted that during spring, "we move on to things that feel lighter in tone and in feeling," celebrating this season of natural growth by "swapping heavy decor pieces for fewer, lighter ones."

If you want your space to look curated and on-trend, read on for eight aesthetics experts believe we'll see everywhere in spring 2026. We've also rounded up some of our favorite styles that make it easy to achieve these looks in your own home.

Nature-Inspired Textures

Expect to see "a lot of rattan, wicker, and seagrass," this season, according to Gutierrez. In keeping with the theme of spring growth and renewal, pairing these textures with accent pieces inspired by nature in your home can also evoke the popular coastal-chic aesthetic.

Home Decor Collection Sterling and Noble Home Rattan Table Lamp, $24 at Walmart Latitude Run Boho Natural Rattan Shoe Storage Cabinet, $104 (was $200) at Wayfair Mainstays 16-Piece Pink Coastal Botanical Bathroom Set, $25 (was $28) at Walmart Scalloped Edges

In keeping with the emphasis on natural textures and motifs this year, "home decor with a scalloped edge is also here to stay," Gutierrez said. Scalloped textures reflect the smooth, curving lines of both scallops and ocean waves, adding dimensions to home accents.

Equal parts playful and elegant, we're seeing the scallop trend on everything from regencycore-inspired area rugs to antique-style lamps. It's also showing up in bedding, stoneware pieces, and smaller home accents that make it a super accessible way to add style to any room.

Kassatex Le Marais Tray, $32 at Anthropologie Rgi Water Hyacinth Scalloped Top Basket, $9 (was $13) at TJ Maxx Thkrlof Wooden Photo Frame, $15 at Amazon Nostalgic Layers

"Textures and patterns that feel nostalgic are making a comeback," Gutierrez noted, comparing the shift toward "craftsmanship and integrity of materials" to the early resistance to industrialization during the late-Victorian era Arts and Crafts movement

Look for high-quality designs that are simple and refined, with a bespoke, heirloom-quality feel. The advent of nostalgia as a trend offers opportunities to really lean into the cottagecore and farmhouse aesthetics.

Yj Yanjun Sheer Lace Curtains, $25 at Amazon Mainstays Mint 10-Piece Comforter Set, $30 at Walmart Monday Moose Ruffle Farmhouse Tablecloth, $26 at Amazon Vintage-Inspired Pieces

Similar to the lifecycle of fashion trends, Cohen pointed to a renewed reinterpretation of designs from bygone eras as a possible spring 2026 design theme.

Cohen said that "one of the most compelling patterns we’re seeing is a cyclical return to ideas from the past, particularly as people reassess how they live, work, and consume." This is ever-present in the retro-inspired designs we're seeing everywhere right now.

Yarra-Decor Turkish Moroccan Lamp, From $40 (was $49) at Amazon Beautypeak Arched Vanity Mirror, From $70 (was $139) at Walmart Jamie Young Kain Faux Shagreen Side Table, $99 (was $200) at TJ Maxx Heritage-Inspired Textiles

We know florals are, classically, not exactly groundbreaking, but this spring they have emerged as a frontrunner in the design space, specifically when the designs incorporate historically popular textures.

"Heritage-inspired motifs, reminiscent of William Morris florals, are reemerging, especially in textiles like pillows and duvets, bringing richness and storytelling back into everyday spaces,” Cohen explained. Even in larger pieces of furniture, look for bloom-adorned textile details to pop this spring.

Organic Club William Morris Tapestry Pillow, $35 at Wayfair Laura Ashley Queen Bed Sheets, From $53 (was $90) at Amazon The Pioneer Woman Sweet Rose Kitchen Towel Set, $7 (was $8) at Walmart English Countryside Vibes

The surge in popularity of regency-era romance in pop culture, thanks in part to Bridgerton and Wuthering Heights, brings another variation on florals to the fore. Expect to see "a lot of floral prints in pastel colors," per Gutierrez, who called the style "very English countryside-inspired."

In keeping with this theme, she also added, "I expect ruched details on lamps, sofas, and pillows to be at their peak."

Canaan Linen Blend Royal Bloom Floral Pillow, $40 (was $56) at Marshalls 510 Design Mia Ruched Comforter Set, $90 at Macy's Tina's Home Upholstered Wingback Armchair, $250 at Walmart

Organic Patterns With Movement

"Pattern remains important this spring, but with a more relaxed, organic feel," Cohen said. Florals and nature-inspired motifs aren't the only designs you'll see, though. "Stripes continue to evolve, appearing slightly off-grid or 'shifted,' lending a sense of movement and informality," she added.

Better Homes and Gardens Broken Stripe Multi-Color Rug, $25 at Walmart Maya Eline Leroy Striped Ceramic Trinket Dish, From $16 at Anthropologie Battilo Boho Throw Blanket, $28 at Walmart Warm, Calming Neutrals

Where color is concerned, Cohen said "muted mauves and earthy green tones, particularly pine and olive, anchored by warm browns and soft creams" are neutrals that can "create a calming foundation” for your spring decor.

Cohen added that "butter yellows and other gentle spring hues are layered in as seasonal accents, building on momentum from last year rather than introducing abrupt shifts."

Cotton Fisherman Throw, $80 (was $170) at Quince Orren Ellis Saboor Swivel Accent Chair, $250 (was $400) at Wayfair Ooit Vintage-Inspired Ceramic Vase Set, $32 at Amazon

Willie Nelson Collaborates With Clocks and Colours on a Handcrafted Silver Jewelry Collection

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 3:12am

Country legend Willie Nelson has teamed up with Canadian jewelry brand Clocks and Colours for a handcrafted sterling silver collection that channels the spirit of outlaw country and the enduring legacy of one of music's most iconic voices.

Announced on Instagram as "a defining moment" for the brand, the collaboration reflects a deep respect for Nelson's influence, his catalog, and the cultural movement he helped shape. For Clocks and Colours—known for its rugged, rock-and-roll-inspired aesthetic—partnering with Nelson represents more than a celebrity co-sign. It's a meeting of shared values: independence, craftsmanship, and timeless style.

"We're proud to introduce a collaboration that means a great deal to us," Clocks and Colours shared in an Instagram post, introducing the collaboration. "Working alongside the legacy of @willienelsonofficial is a defining moment, rooted in deep respect for the music, its history, and the influence it continues to carry. This collection marks a monumental moment for @ClocksandColours, and it's an honour to finally share it."

The debut release features two statement rings: the Outlaw x Willie Nelson ring and the Stardust x Willie Nelson ring. Both designs are handcrafted in sterling silver and the Stardust is offered with either onyx or turquoise stones, which are materials long associated with Western heritage and Americana iconography. The bold silhouettes and substantial silverwork echo Nelson's unmistakable presence, while the stone options allow wearers to choose between the dark depth of onyx or the vibrant, desert-toned character of turquoise.

View this post on Instagram

The "Outlaw" name nods to Nelson's pivotal role in the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, when he and fellow artists broke from the polished Nashville sound. The ring has the word "OUTLAW" carved across one side of the bend, and there's a lucky horseshoe surrounded by silver paisley (inspired by outlaw's infamous bandana) on the other side.

Meanwhile, the "Stardust" ring references one of his most beloved albums from 1978, further tying the collection to Nelson's musical journey and cross-generational appeal. This ring features twin eagles and feathers carved around the bend, as well as a silver star in the center of the stone.

Rather than leaning into trend-driven design, the collection embraces heirloom-quality craftsmanship and symbolism tied directly to Nelson's legacy. The rings are available now through the brand's website, offering fans and collectors a chance to wear a piece of outlaw history, cast in silver.

How to Visit the Viral Monkey, Punch, in Japan's Ichikawa City Zoo

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 2:16am

Meet Punch, the now viral Japanese macaque monkey born at the Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Gardens in Japan in July 2025.

Poor Punch was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth. Zookeepers introduced him to a stuffed orangutan toy to provide comfort and emotional support. Since then, equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking videos of him dragging the plush around have basically broken the internet. And that heart-tugging behavior has brought visitors from across Japan—and the world—hoping to spot Punch in person.

So here's how to get to the Ichikawa City Zoo if you're feeling like a far-flung adventure. Punch deserves it.

Flying to Japan

The Ichikawa City Zoo is in Ichikawa, which is in the Chiba Prefecture, just east of Tokyo. It's part of the Tokyo metropolitan area. To visit, you'll have to fly into the greater Tokyo area. The two main international gateways with numerous flights from the U.S. are:

  1. Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) — This is the closest major airport to Ichikawa, and it offers efficient public transit and taxi links into the city. It's only about 45 minutes to an hour to Ichikawa by bus or train.
  2. Narita International Airport (NRT) — This airport is also well-served by flights from major U.S. hubs. Trains and buses link Narita to Tokyo and onward to Ichikawa in about 60 to 90 minutes.

If you have the option, flying into Haneda will save travel time and make reaching Ichikawa easiest and quickest.

Many major carriers connect the U.S. to Tokyo's airports, including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and more, with nonstop and one-stop services to Tokyo. Japan Airlines also offers nonstop flights to Tokyo from cities like Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), New York (JFK), and others.

View this post on Instagram

Other international carriers with convenient connections include Air Canada, British Airways, KLM, and Emirates.

Getting from Tokyo to Ichikawa

Once you land in Tokyo, getting to Ichikawa is relatively easy. Tokyo and the surrounding cities (and, frankly, Japan, at large) are super well-connected via an extensive public transport system.

From Haneda Airport, you can take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsuchō Station or the Keikyu Airport Line to Shinagawa Station. From there, you can transfer to the JR lines and connect to the Sōbu Line to reach Ichikawa.

From Narita Airport, you can take the Keisei Main Line to Keisei-Yawata Station, transfer to the Motoyawata Station (JR), and take the JR Sōbu Line to Ichikawa Station. Or you can take a JR train from Narita Airport to Chiba Station and transfer to the JR Sōbu Line toward Tokyo, and hop off at Ichikawa Station.

Either way, you'll want a Suica card for convenient travel. It works on almost all trains, subways, and buses in Japan, so you can tap in and out without buying separate tickets for each leg of your journey. You can even add it to your digital wallet for easy access. (Carry some cash just in case for longer-haul journeys and reserved trains, but a Suica card will cover most fares.)

Make sure to pay attention to reserved seating on some trains. Some trains have red and green lights above the seats to indicate whether or not they're taken or free. However, local and commuter trains are generally unreserved.

Visiting Ichikawa City Zoo

Here's what you need to know before you visit the Ichikawa City Zoo.

The address of the zoo is 284-1 Omachi, Ichikawa City, 272-0801. If you need help locating it and have a Japanese sim card or the ability to call, you can reach the zoo at 047-338-1960 (add +81 for Japan's country code if you're calling from an international number).

The zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (entry until 4 p.m.) Tuesday through Sunday. It is closed every Monday and on public holidays.

Adults pay 440 yen (tax included), and children's tickets cost 110 yen (tax included). That's about $2.80 and .70¢, respectively. Preschool-aged children can visit for free. There is also a group discount of 20 percent if you're rolling at least 25 people deep (reservations required).

You can find more information about the zoo's hours of operation and ticket pricing here.

Finding Punch, the Monkey

At the Ichikawa City Zoo, Punch lives in the monkey enclosure—an area usually referred to as the "Monkey Mountain" or macaque group enclosure, where Japanese macaques (snow monkeys) are kept. This is where visitors can see Punch interacting with the other monkeys (when he's not being iced out) and carrying his nearly constant companion.

Because the zoo is operated by Ichikawa City, its focus is on education, conservation, and welfare. But, of course, zoos are still unnatural habitats for these animals.

It's important to be respectful of the animals living there. Even though Punch is adorable, don't try to touch, feed him, or call out to him. Avoid tapping on glass, banging on enclosures, making loud noises, or using a camera flash, which can stress out Punch and the pals he's desperately trying to make.

After all, Punch needs more love, not more tough times. So, if you're going to make the long journey to Japan to pay Punch a visit, pay him some respect, too.

The rotating arm makes it easy to aim the light exactly where you need it, and the removable shade (handwoven rattan and linen) lets you customize the look to fit your space. The lamp itself is finished in black, so it works just as well in a modern setting as it does for a more farmhouse look.

Tired of Flight Delays? This Global Airline Was Named the Most On-Time for the Second Year in a Row

Sun, 02/22/2026 - 1:06am

For travelers who plan tightly scheduled vacations, international business trips, and carefully timed connections, reliability can really make or break the journey. That's why recent news about Aeroméxico is turning heads. The Mexico-based global carrier has been named the "most on-time airline in the world" for the second consecutive year.

According to aviation analytics firm Cirium—which analyzes flight data from more than 600 real-time sources (airlines, airports, global distribution systems, and civil aviation authorities)—Aeroméxico topped global rankings for operational performance. This means that a higher percentage of its flights arrived when scheduled (within 14:59 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival time) compared to competitors.

Specifically, the Mexican carrier maintained a 90.02 percent on-time performance, operating 188,859 flights across 23 countries. In second and third place were Saudia and SAS, with 86.53 percent and 86.09 percent, respectively.

In an industry still grappling with weather disruptions, air traffic congestion, staffing shortages, and aircraft delivery delays, snagging the top spot is no small feat. Aeroméxico is only the second airline to achieve consecutive global wins since Cirium launched the ranking program in 2009.

Related: From City Street Tacos to Sandy Shores, This Sun-Drenched Destination Is Seeing Record Visitors

Aeroméxico operates from its primary hub at Mexico City International Airport, one of Latin America's busiest and most complex airports. Managing punctual departures and arrivals in such a high-traffic environment underscores the airline's operational discipline. The carrier serves major international destinations across Mexico, North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, including key routes to cities like New York, Madrid, Paris, and Tokyo.

A major factor behind the airline's consistency is its fleet-modernization strategy. Aeroméxico has invested heavily in newer-generation aircraft, particularly the fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner models. These aircraft not only reduce fuel consumption but also improve reliability, helping minimize technical delays that can ripple across an entire day's schedule.

Additionally, Aeroméxico's membership in the SkyTeam alliance strengthens its global connectivity and operational coordination with partners like Delta Air Lines and Air France. Streamlined processes, data-driven scheduling, and collaborative ground operations all contribute to keeping flights on time.

For travelers feeling fatigued by gate changes and seemingly constant missed connections lately, this consistency matters. Being named the world's most punctual airline once is impressive. Doing it twice signals a culture of operational excellence.

Bad Bunny Pays Sweet Tribute to Willie Colón Following Salsa Icon's Death

Sat, 02/21/2026 - 11:59pm

The recent loss of a salsa music pioneer is being mourned by fans of the genre everywhere — and that includes Bad Bunny.

The red-hot Grammy winner, 31, just took time during his latest concert in São Paulo, Brazil, to pray tribute to Willie Colón, whose death was confirmed earlier on Saturday, Feb. 21.

“Today, one of the legends who contributed to this beautiful and legendary genre passed away,” Benito is heard saying in Spanish in a fan-captured video on Instagram, per Billboard. “So, on behalf of myself and Los Sobrinos, we wish Willie Colón peace. Much strength to his family. The inspiration of so many of these great musicians who left their mark on this earth will never die as long as there are talented young people like those here, keeping the music, salsa and all Caribbean rhythms alive.”

Saturday's show marked the second of two nights Bad Bunny headlined Allianz Parque on his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour. He heads to Sydney, Australia, next week.

News of Colón's death was confirmed in a statement released by his family. “While we grieve his absence, we also rejoice in the timeless gift of his music and the cherished memories he created that will live on forever,” the family shared on Colón’s Facebook page.

Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Colón was behind dozens of albums, including La Gran Fuga (The Big Break) in 1970 and El Juicio (The Judgment) in 1972. Perhaps his most influential album, Siembre (Snowing), was recorded and released with Rubén Blades in 1978 and remains a landmark work in salsa music.

Earlier this week, Bad Bunny celebrated yet another career milestone when his song “DtMF” (short for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos”) hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking a huge moment for the Puerto Rican superstar's solo career.

The achievement came on the heels of one of music's biggest live stages: his Super Bowl LX Halftime Show performance in Santa Clara, California.
