Spooky season is officially upon us, and some of the biggest names in candy are getting in on the action. This Halloween, beloved candy brand Hi-Chew is taking its fan-favorite Mystery Mix on the road, visiting five U.S. cities with the Mystery Manor Tour.

Kicking off today in Austin, Texas, Hi-Chew’s Mystery Manor Tour will offer an immersive mobile trunk-or-treat experience, featuring interactive activations, samples of Hi-Chew’s seasonal mix and an appearance by the brand’s mascot, Chewbie, donning a Frankenstein’s Monster-inspired costume and transforming into FrankenChewbie.

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by a graveyard with Orange Creamsicle tombstones, Cotton Candy trees and Green Apple jack-o’-lanterns. For the trick-or-treating experience, visitors will be invited to tap into their detective skills, following clues that will lead them to Hi-Chew’s new Mystery Flavor, which won’t be publicly revealed until Halloween, on the final stop of the tour.

Additionally, this immersive experience will include playful frights, interactive games and other twists. The Mystery Manor Tour also offers guests photo opportunities in front of the graveyard and the opportunity to buy exclusive merch that will only be available at the pop-up.

For those unable to make it to one of these tour stops, there is still an opportunity to guess the new Mystery Flavor. Guests can access the FrankenChewbie’s Flavor Mash game on the Hi-Chew website, which offers all fans the chance to “crack the case.”

The limited-edition Hi-Chew Halloween Mystery Mix is also available for purchase on the Hi-Chew website or at select retailers, including Walmart, Target, Acme, Amazon and others, nationwide, while supplies last.

Two women in separate states filed a lawsuit against Trader Joe’s Company on Friday, October 15, alleging that the Tarragon Chicken Salad Wraps they purchased and ate were contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, leading to their recent hospitalizations. Meanwhile, the number of reported cases continues to rise.

According to a press release from Marler Clark, the law firm representing Gayle Gottlieb of Pembroke, North Carolina, and Meaghan Egan Bright of Somerville, Massachusetts, both women suffered severe illnesses caused by infections that their local health departments said were part of a multistate E. coli outbreak.

“Ms. Bright spent a week at Massachusetts General Hospital in the worst pain of her life, keeping her family’s visits short because she was afraid of infecting them,” attorney Ilana Korchia said in a statement. “Ms. Gottlieb went to the emergency room twice in two days and left (for the hospital) the second time in an ambulance.”

Bright and Gottlieb experienced bloody diarrhea and intense abdominal cramping three to four days after eating their chicken wraps, the law firm said. Bright purchased her wraps at a Trader Joe’s in Allston, Massachusetts, while Gottlieb purchased hers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

An active investigation is underway by the USDA and FDA, which have said that ready-to-eat chicken wraps were the culprit behind at least 50 cases of foodborne illness in September 2026.

According to Food Safety News, the FDA has confirmed that the sandwiches are no longer available for sale, pulled from shelves and past their shelf life. But the agency has not provided details on which states the victims live in, their ages, nor where investigations into the outbreak are taking place. The agencies also have not named Trader Joe’s as the point of purchase, but Marler Clark is intent on exposing the retailer through its lawsuit.

“Trader Joe’s knows who made these wraps, what went into them, which stores received them and when they came off the shelves,” Korchia said. “None of that is in the public record. Discovery will put it there.”

Attorney Bill Marler, a partner at Marler Clark who specializes in prominent foodborne illness cases, has written two citizen petitions, urging the FDA to amend its disclosure regulations based on these cases. He wants the agency to begin revealing the identities of retailers implicated in an outbreak and to “publish the suspect food, the states, the hospitalizations and the cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome while an investigation is open.”

Trader Joe’s did not immediately respond to Parade‘s request for comment.

Little House on the Prairie portrayed a picturesque version of life in the 1800s, but making the beloved series wasn’t always nearly so pleasant.

Several stars of the NBC drama recently reunited on The Patrick Labyorteaux Show, where they reminisced about their years in Walnut Grove and revealed just how extreme conditions could become while filming outdoors in Simi Valley, Calif.

For Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, the trouble started almost immediately.

Asked about her first day on the series, Arngrim remembered “complete chaos and confusion.” She hadn’t read Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books before landing the role and didn’t realize she was expected to arrive with Nellie’s signature ringlets already underway.

After some frantic hair curling, Arngrim headed to the location.

“And then, first day on location, of course, I passed out,” she recalled.

Later in the conversation, Patrick Labyorteaux, who played Andy Garvey on Little House on the Prairie, turned the discussion to the punishing heat in Simi Valley, jokingly calling the filming location “Hell’s Mouth.”

Arngrim said the beginning of summer could practically be measured by when she collapsed.

“First day of summer is when Alison hits the ground,” she joked. “It was that hot.”

Arngrim was only about 12 when she joined the series. She recalled approaching the director on one particularly hot day and politely saying, “Excuse me, I think I’m going to faint,” before completely losing consciousness.

She was revived with an ammonia capsule under her nose and a salt tablet in her mouth. After taking a short break, Arngrim went back to work.

“It’s like basically how to not pass out was the challenge,” she said. “It was insane.”

Eventually, Arngrim wasn’t the only young actor hitting the ground. She recalled filming the season 1 episode “The Voice of Tinker Jones,” which featured a young Sean Penn in one of his earliest acting appearances. Penn’s father Leo Penn directed the episode. The episode included a forge, adding yet another source of heat to an already sweltering location. Arngrim remembered hearing a noise, turning around and seeing Penn collapse.

“He didn’t wake up and come back to work,” she said. “That was it, he was done for the day.”

For Arngrim, there was at least some vindication in discovering she wasn’t the only one struggling with the conditions.

“That’s when they decided maybe it was not just me, that it was actually that hot,” she recalled.

The period costumes only made matters worse. Arngrim wore thick stockings and petticoats beneath Nellie’s elaborate dresses, while Dean Butler, who played Almanzo Wilder, said the male cast members had it comparatively easy.

“I always felt sorry for the women on the set,” Butler admitted, explaining that the men were generally dressed in shirts, pants and boots.

Pamela Roylance, who played Sarah Carter, remembered filming the episode “Sins of the Fathers” on an especially miserable day. Michael Landon allowed her to leave her blouse partially unbuttoned and roll up her sleeves while filming an outdoor scene.

“It kind of just wasn’t done,” Roylance said of the wardrobe adjustment, “but it’s in the shot, you can see it in the episode, and I was so grateful for that.”

Roylance also recalled that Stan Ivar, who played her onscreen husband, gave her a small fan that she could strap around her leg and aim beneath her long skirt between takes.

The California weather wasn’t the only thing turning the Little House set into an oven.

Labyorteaux explained that the technology used to film an outdoor television series at the time required enormous arc lights. The lights used electrified carbon to produce the intense illumination needed for filming, generating so much heat that they had smokestacks.

“They’re literally like a miniature sun, you know, pointed at you,” Labyorteaux said, and there could be several operating at once. Arngrim remembered the lights blazing toward the actors while reflector boards directed still more sunlight into their faces.

“How did you light the show? With actual fire,” she joked. “There’s smoke coming out of a flaming thing that is pointed at our faces.”

Roylance said the intense light could even make actors’ eyes water, creating another problem if they were filming scenes in which their characters weren’t supposed to be crying.

Some of the worst days, according to Arngrim, involved episodes featuring sporting events. While the action itself might have been fun to watch, those episodes required other cast members to sit on bleachers for hours while the crew captured reaction shots. Arngrim recalled spending as many as six working hours sitting under the arc lights, pretending to cheer while “frying” in the heat.

During one such shoot, Charlotte Stewart, who played schoolteacher Eva Beadle, remained sitting when everyone else finally got up for a break.

There was a frightening reason why.

“She had in fact lost consciousness and fainted and blacked out, but just didn’t fall over,” Arngrim said. “And they didn’t know she was out.”

The cast found whatever methods they could to cope. Butler remembered soaking a cloth in the Sea Breeze and ice water kept on set, putting it on his head and covering it with his hat. Arngrim poured Sea Breeze directly on her wrists and used cold cloths around her neck.

More than 50 years after Little House on the Prairie premiered on NBC, its stars can laugh about some of the extraordinary conditions they endured while making it.

But behind those sunny scenes of Walnut Grove were period costumes, scorching California temperatures, blazing arc lights and a cast sometimes facing a surprisingly difficult challenge: simply staying conscious.

Reba McEntire has never been shy about standing up for Dolly Parton. And a resurfaced interview from 1996 shows that her loyalty to the country music legend goes back decades.

As American Songwriter⁠ recalled on October 16, McEntire was speaking with television host Tom Snyder about her ambitions beyond country music when the conversation took an unexpected turn.

Snyder questioned whether pursuing an acting career might alienate her fans. He then brought up Parton, suggesting that her move into movies and other entertainment projects had cost her some of her country audience.

McEntire wasn’t convinced. “I don’t think Dolly would ever leave country,” she replied with a smile.

Rather than accepting the idea that artists had to choose between music and acting, McEntire explained that branching out could actually help them reach more people.

“What we really want to do is to just enhance, to entertain more,” she said.

She pointed to Parton’s success with 9 to 5 as an example of how a movie and its accompanying music could work together.

“I have no intentions of leaving my music base, my fan base. I just want to gather more into it,” McEntire added.

Five years later, McEntire would make her own successful move into television with Reba, the sitcom that premiered in 2001 and ran for six seasons.

Her friendship with Parton continued long afterward. The two collaborated on a new version of McEntire’s “Does He Love You” in 2021, and Parton had previously appeared as a guest star on Reba.

McEntire also honored Parton at the 2026 Emmy Awards, performing “Appalachian Memories” in memory of her longtime friend, who died in August at 80.

Thirty years later, McEntire’s words still ring true. Neither she nor Parton had to choose between country music and Hollywood. Both went on to become household names across America, proving that staying true to your roots doesn’t mean you can’t reach a much bigger audience.

Jennifer Check, the popular cheerleader-turned-murderous demon played by Megan Fox in Diablo Cody’s Jennifer’s Body, is returning to the silver screen for a sequel to the cult classic. While production details are still unknown, Cody recently revealed the new film will explore a more “sympathetic” side of the titular character.

“Jennifer is a sympathetic character for me, before and after the transformation,” she explained while appearing on a recent episode of the Petticoat Revolution podcast, Deadline reported. “I mean, she is very isolated, she’s very lonely, she’s very insecure. Everybody remembers Jennifer when she’s like, ‘I am a god,’ or when she’s at her most radiant and at her most powerful. But people forget about these moments in the movie where she’s like a shell of herself, she’s just exsanguinated almost. And to me, Megan played both of those sides of Jennifer so well.”

Cody added that the new installment will take a more intimate look at Jennifer and what she endured in the first film. 

“And one fun thing—I can’t talk about it too much—but you know we’re doing a sequel to this movie, like imminently, and I felt like in the new movie, I was able to explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she’s been through,” she explained. “And there is absolutely, to me, a loneliness and a poignancy to that character that people don’t always recognize.”

Deadline confirmed Cody was developing a sequel to Jennifer’s Body for 20th Century Studios last October. At the time, Karyn Kusama, who directed the first film, said she was “very excited to hear what comes” from the sequel.

“I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film,” Kusama told the outlet at the time. “And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”

Both Fox and Amanda Seyfried, who starred in the film as Check’s bookish best friend-turned-lone survivor Anita “Needy” Lesnicki, have expressed interest in reprising their roles in the second installment.

Miley Cyrus brought a little extra meaning to “Let’s Get Married” when her fiancé, Maxx Morando, joined her onstage at the Hollywood Bowl.

During her Friday, October 16, concert, Morando played drums as Cyrus performed the song, giving the couple a moment together in front of the crowd. The two walked out on stage arm in arm and could be seen dancing together throughout the performance.

A clip of the moment was shared on Instagram and caught fans’ attention, with many swooning over the pair’s sweet onstage appearance.

This was just one of several memorable moments from Cyrus’ Hollywood Bowl show, her first major live performance in nearly four years. She also paid tribute to her godmother, Dolly Parton, who died at 80 on August 25 after a brief battle with cancer.

Before singing Parton’s “Jolene,” Cyrus recalled the first time she saw her godmother perform at the Hollywood Bowl. She had asked Parton if she could watch from the crowd like any other fan. Parton agreed, then surprised Cyrus by opening the show with “The Best of Both Worlds,” the Hannah Montana theme song. Parton also told the audience that her goddaughter was there, watching from her seat.

Cyrus became emotional as she shared how much that memory means to her now. “Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could tear us apart,” she told the crowd, adding that she misses Parton and looks forward to seeing her again.

Later in the show, Cyrus held a photo of Parton in a heart-shaped frame while performing “Wrecking Ball,” explaining that it was her godmother’s favorite of her songs.

Beloved TV character actor Michael Forest passed away on Wednesday, his friend James A. Brown announced Friday on Facebook. The 97-year-old actor was best known for his role as the god Apollo in a famous 1967 episode of Star Trek, but three years before that he played an even more eccentric role.

In the season 5 Twilight Zone episode “Black Leather Jackets,” Forest played an alien on a mission to destroy planet Earth. This alien goes by the name Steve, and he disguises himself as a fellow human.

Not just any human, however. Steve’s chosen method of blending in is to dress up as a stereotypical 1950s biker, fit with the leather jacket and the greaser slang. His dialogue was already long outdated by the time the episode aired in 1964, making “Black Leather Jackets” one of the more bizarre outings of an already strange series.

The episode also starred Shelley Fabares as sweet girl-next-door Ellen, who falls in love with another alien biker who goes by the name of Scott (Lee Kinsolving). While Scott changes his mind about conquering the earth, Forest’s character remains a hardcore supporter of taking down the human race.

The result is a fun, intimidating performance from young Forest, one that really elevates an admittedly flimsy script.

“Black Leather Jackets” was one of the many Twilight Zone episodes not penned by series creator Rod Serling. Its writer Earl Hamner Jr. actually claimed in a later interview that the episode was a “bad one,” with “a lot of illogical things that took place in it.”

But just because the writing was iffy doesn’t mean the actors weren’t given their chance to shine. Forest and the other actors in the episode, Hamner asserted, “did what they could with a bad script.”

Forest later reflected on his long and varied career, remarking, “It hasn’t been bad. Some of the things that I’ve done, I take a great deal of pride in. But, like all actors, you do work in material and situations that are not what you want, and you try to make it the best you can.”

It’s aces high as fans gear up to grab tickets for Iron Maiden’s final leg of the Run for Your Lives tour. Just when it seemed the British metal legends were ready for a break, they’re coming back to North America for 16 more shows in spring 2027.

The band had planned to step away from live performances next year. But bassist and founder Steve Harris said the band enjoyed its recent North American run so much that they decided to return. This time, they’re focusing on regions they missed, particularly the Northwest and Southeast. He said it seemed only fair to the fans there who have supported them for so many years.

The trek kicks off April 14 at the Tacoma Dome in Washington and winds through Vancouver, Portland, California, Phoenix, Dallas, Florida, Atlanta, Raleigh and Hartford. It comes to the New York area May 11 at UBS Arena in Belmont Park before wrapping with two festival headlining sets: Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, on May 14 and Boardwalk Rock in Ocean City, Maryland, on May 16. Presales for the band’s fan club begin Oct. 19, with general tickets going on sale Oct. 23.

Fans can also expect Eddie, Iron Maiden’s famously ghoulish mascot, to return as part of the band’s elaborate stage production. Eddie’s Dive Bars, the band’s pop-up fan hangouts, will be back on the road, too. On the recent tour, Eddie loomed large over a massive video wall that brought the band’s album artwork to life, including a towering Egyptian temple during “Powerslave.”

Paul McCartney took a trip down memory lane as he reflected on his late first wife, Linda, and her passion for protecting animals.

Earlier this week, the music icon stopped by the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast and shared some intimate details about his marriage to the former American photographer and musician. “She’s like a crazy vegetarian,” McCartney said of Linda. “So we had that in common and Linda was very outspoken on that subject. To the point where if it hadn’t been her, it would have been embarrassing.”

The Beatles star confessed that Linda was the type of person who, if she saw you eating meat, she’d give you a hard time about it, without any shame.

“She had this kind of Disney-esque view of animals,” McCartney added. “So if we saw, like a frog in a garden or something, she’d pick it up.”

At this point in the interview, McCartney was visibly and audibly becoming emotional. His voice began to tremble as he continued the story. “The way she would hold it. It wouldn’t hurt [the frog].” McCartney stopped and began fanning his eyes as they began to water. “She would say, ‘Its mommy loved it’…even if it’s a frog.” She’d treat and talk to the creatures like they were Disney animals.

Poehler offered him some tissues and praised their relationship. She noted that she loved learning about him and Linda in his 2026 documentary, Paul McCartney: Man on the Run. She gushed over how well they worked together and who they were as a couple, calling it a “testament to just what respectful, beautiful mutual love looks like.”

McCartney and Linda wed in March 1969. The two remained married for nearly 30 years, until Linda’s untimely death in 1998. McCartney has since remarried twice — he was previously married to Heather Mills (2002–2008). His current wife is American businesswoman Nancy Shevell, whom he wed in 2011.

Former Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher is making a shocking claim about Dancing With the Stars.

In an interview with StyleCaster posted to Instagram, the reality star said she was offered a spot on the competition show in 2016 but was forced to turn it down.

“I was asked to do Dancing With The Stars after my Bachelor season, but this was obviously like 10 years ago, and it was kind of, like, not allowed to go on,” Fletcher said. “So I got asked and then got blocked by [The Bachelor] to not go on, which I’m so devastated about.”

“I would have accepted the offer, but because I was still under contract with [The Bachelor], they didn’t want me to do Dancing With The Stars,” she continued. “They changed that since me, but I didn’t get to do it.”

Since Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, five Bachelorettes have competed on the show: Hannah Brown, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Gabby Windey, Charity Lawson, and Jenn Tran. Brown and Bristowe both went on to win the Mirrorball Trophy.

In the comment section, Fletcher provided more details about what allegedly happened, claiming that The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss was the one who kept her off the series. Fleiss, who served as an executive producer, left the franchise in 2023 following a Warner Bros. TV investigation into allegations of racial discrimination on the series.

“I mean I maybe saved myself from embarrassment 💃🏼 hahah but ^ True story. Was asked by Dancing w the stars after my season ended ([DWTS casting director] Deena Katz & [ABC executive] Rob Mills were such big supporters) but the Bachelorettes creator at the time – Mike Fleiss told them I couldn’t/wouldn’t let me do it 🤷‍♀️,” she wrote.

Like Fletcher, Bristowe has also claimed that Fleiss blocked her from joining the hit ABC dance competition when she was first approached after her season of The Bachelorette in 2015.

“Actually I was offered it, had the contract & Mike Fliess [sic] told me I wasn’t allowed,” she tweeted in 2017 after The Bachelor‘s Nick Viall was cast on season 24 of DWTS. “He said he didn’t want people wanting fame after his show.”

Josh Brolin has navigated a lot of wild times in his decades in Hollywood. But in a recent interview, the actor revealed he used to take acid and walk naked in the desert.

Brolin, 58, released his tell-all memoir, From Under the Truck, last year. The son of icon James Brolin, he’s been sober for over a decade. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t struggle immensely. But in one of the funnier stories of his years partying, the actor casually mentioned that he would walk around naked in the desert while high on drugs.

“Oh, man! I haven’t been here in 35 years, and it’s just as incredible as I remember it. I used to ride my Harley up here. I used to drop acid and walk naked in the desert,” Brolin shared in an intimate interview in the Telegraph while visiting Arizona.

With over 10 years sober now, Brolin is feeling better than ever. He’s been happily married to Kathryn Boyd for a decade, and they have two daugthers. (Brolin has two other children from previous relationships.)

“The marriage just gets better after 10 years, and my family is everything to me. My kids are always with me when I’m working. I’m already missing them, and I’ve only just got here,” he continued.

What is Whalefall About?

Whalefall stars Brolin in the lead role, alongside Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd. The film is the adaptation of Daniel Kraus‘s hit novel of the same name.

Described by Deadline as The Martian meets 127 Hours, the film’s official description sounds like a nail-biter.

The film “centers on a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places,” a synopsis reads.

Elizabeth Holmes is back in the spotlight, and this time she invited the cameras in. You Can See Everything, a 174-minute A24 documentary from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, opened in theaters Oct. 16 after a surprise debut at the Telluride Film Festival.

The film begins 34 days before Holmes was due to report to federal prison to serve an 11-year sentence for conspiracy and fraud. She and partner Billy Evans welcomed a film crew into their home, saying it would help the public understand who she really is, according to the Associated Press. The directors worked on the project for about three years, The Playlist reports. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called it a “psychodrama circus.”

What viewers keep coming back to is how hard it is to tell what’s real. In online discussion of the film, one exchange drew some of the biggest laughs. Fielder tells Holmes he knows how she’s feeling, and she says he doesn’t. Another favorite was Holmes saying she doesn’t think she has ever told a lie.

Viewers also fixated on Holmes’s parents. Her father mentioned that he once worked at Enron, which many called one of the most striking moments. Others said they felt for her parents, who seemed uneasy as their daughter and Evans spent her last days planning a new venture.

Amanda Seyfried, who won an Emmy for playing Holmes in The Dropout, appears in the film, and viewers praised her reactions. One viewer said she responded the way any of their friends would. Another found it complicated when Holmes blamed the show for making her life harder in prison.

Several viewers marveled that no one ever raised their voice, even as the questions got pointed, and gave Fielder credit for keeping the room calm.

Critics point to the same uncertainty. The AP says Evans “emerges as perhaps the biggest puzzle,” and WBUR writes that the harder the directors zoom in, the more elusive Holmes becomes.

For plenty of viewers, the question is still how much of what they saw was real.

Meeting a television legend can be a dream come true, but for Jim O’Heir, it also turned into an awkward moment he would never forget. The Parks and Recreation actor recently revisited his first encounter with Mary Tyler Moore, recalling how his admiration for the beloved actress left him feeling embarrassed.

In an interview with ReMIND magazine, O’Heir reflected on meeting Moore in 1989, long before he became widely recognized for playing Jerry Gergich on the hit NBC sitcom. As reported by PEOPLE, the actor described the encounter as “horribly humiliating.”

Moore was already a major television star at the time, having earned widespread acclaim for her performances in The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. For O’Heir, meeting someone whose work he admired proved to be an overwhelming experience.

O’Heir was so overwhelmed by the meeting that, as he recalled, “My brain just stopped working.” 

Rather than delivering a polished introduction, O’Heir found himself struggling to express his admiration. He eventually told the actress, “I’m in awe of you.”

The actress responded by telling him that she was in awe of him, too. Although her reply might have made the moment less intimidating, O’Heir remembered the encounter as an embarrassing experience.

The story highlights the sometimes uncomfortable reality of meeting someone who has long been an inspiration. Even years before becoming a recognizable television personality himself, O’Heir found himself struggling to navigate a conversation with one of the industry’s most celebrated performers.

O’Heir eventually became a familiar face to audiences through Parks and Recreation, which aired from 2009 to 2015. He played Jerry, a kindhearted employee of the fictional Parks Department in Pawnee, Indiana, whose colleagues frequently teased him. Despite the character’s misfortunes, Jerry became a memorable part of the show’s ensemble.

Moore, meanwhile, established a lasting legacy in television. The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which debuted in 1970, was praised for its portrayal of an independent, career-focused woman navigating her professional and personal life. The series helped influence how women were represented in American sitcoms.

O’Heir’s recollection offers a more personal glimpse into the experience of meeting a childhood or career idol. What might seem like an ordinary introduction to someone else can become an unforgettable memory when admiration takes over.

For the actor, the encounter with Moore remains a story worth revisiting decades later, even if it did not unfold quite the way he had hoped.

The British professional wrestler, Benjamin Satterley, better known to his fans as PAC in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and as Neville in WWE, died on September 27. He was 40 at the time of his death.

According to People Magazine, the wrestler died of bronchial asthma, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has said.

The medical examiner’s office stated that Satterley had died from natural causes, a finding which was reported by the New York Post on October 16; this conclusion helps to explain the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a wrestler who had still been fighting in the ring at the time of his death.

Satterley was found to be unconscious in a rental car in a parking lot in Des Plaines, Illinois, an area close to Chicago O’Hare International Airport on September 27.

The police went to the spot and took the necessary emergency actions, but Satterley was found to have died. Initially, the authorities stated that there were no obvious signs of injury or foul play and then had the body autopsied the following day.

He died within 24 hours of taking part in the AEW All Out event on September 26; at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Satterley fought Andrade El Idolo for the AEW National Championship.

When AEW announced that AEW had died, the cause of death was not stated immediately. The medical examiner concluded that bronchial asthma had caused the death, which was classified as a natural death. No additional medical details have been released since.

Satterley was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, in England, and began his career in professional wrestling in 2004. He became well known amongst the fans of different wrestling promotions because of his athletic ability and the way he used aerial moves. He joined WWE in 2012 and wrestled for the company under the name Neville, eventually becoming a prominent wrestler in both the NXT and cruiserweight divisions. While with WWE, he won the Cruiserweight Championship before departing in 2018.

In 2019, Satterley joined AEW under the name PAC and presented himself as one of the promotion’s main performers, gaining several titles. He also took part in international competitions, such as those held with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Mexico’s Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre.

People in the wrestling industry paid tribute to him, with AEW and other wrestlers remembering the role he had played in the sport, and his final match against Andrade El Idolo is now seen as his last appearance in the ring.

When I Know What You Did Last Summer arrived in theaters in October 1997, it looked like the next big thing in teen horror.

Released less than a year after Scream, the movie reunited screenwriter Kevin Williamson with the horror audience that had made his previous film a hit. But while Scream played with the conventions of the slasher genre, I Know What You Did Last Summer embraced them. It had four attractive teenagers, a terrible secret, a mysterious killer and a hook-wielding figure stalking them through a small coastal town.

The movie was a major commercial success. Made for roughly $17 million, it went on to earn over $125 million worldwide.

Nearly three decades later, the movie remains one of the defining teen horror films of the late 1990s. For viewers who grew up with it, the images are inseparable from that era: Jennifer Love Hewitt screaming in terror, Sarah Michelle Gellar running from the killer, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. as the other members of the doomed friend group, and the Fisherman dragging his hook behind him.

That nostalgia has only grown with time. But there is an uncomfortable part of the movie’s history: Lois Duncan, the author of the 1973 novel on which it was based, hated what Hollywood had done to her story.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Was Very Different From Lois Duncan’s Book Lois Duncan in 1981

Duncan’s novel was not a slasher story.

The basic premise survived the adaptation. Four teenagers are involved in an accident, agree to keep what happened a secret and eventually receive a threatening message from someone who knows what they did. But Williamson’s screenplay transformed that relatively restrained suspense story into a full-fledged slasher.

The movie added the Fisherman and introduced graphic murders that had no equivalent in Duncan’s novel. The result was much closer to the kind of teen slasher that had dominated horror in the 1980s than the book Duncan published in 1973.

For audiences in 1997, that transformation was part of the appeal. Scream had demonstrated that theatrical horror could become a major mainstream success again, and I Know What You Did Last Summer quickly became another recognizable title from the same late-’90s horror boom.

For Duncan, however, the changes came as a shock.

Duncan later recalled that she had almost forgotten she had written the book when she learned it was being turned into a major motion picture. She was excited to see the adaptation.

Then she went to the theater.

“I went to the theater, bought my ticket and popcorn, and found a seat,” Duncan recalled in a Q&A published in her book. “Then onto the screen came an insane fisherman carrying an ice hook. He wasn’t in my book.”

For a moment, Duncan thought she might have walked into the wrong theater.

The title eventually appeared on screen, confirming that she was watching the adaptation of her own novel. But what followed was almost entirely foreign to her.

“I was so horrified I couldn’t even open my popcorn,” she recalled. “It was quite a shocker.”

Duncan also said the filmmakers had kept her away from the production because they were apparently concerned about how she would react to the changes.

Asked whether she was more upset that the movie had become a slasher or that it had changed so much of her story, Duncan’s answer was simple: “Well, both.”

“It was my characters and my plot gimmick, but then it went in all directions,” she said.

She pointed out that the book’s double-identity twist, which she considered crucial to the story, had been removed. But the violence bothered her even more.

The Movie’s Violence Had a Much More Personal Meaning for Duncan Muse Watson in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (1997)

Duncan’s reaction to the movie’s graphic violence was shaped by a tragedy that had happened years earlier.

In 1989, Duncan’s 18-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, was shot and killed while driving in Albuquerque, N.M. Duncan spent decades investigating her daughter’s death and wrote about the case in Who Killed My Daughter? That experience made the movie’s treatment of violence especially difficult for her.

“Several years earlier my own teenage daughter, Kait, had been chased down in her car and shot to death,” Duncan said. “I had seen, right in front of my eyes, what real violence is.”

She found it disturbing to watch audiences react to the movie’s fictional killings as entertainment.

“To have people screaming and laughing about it did not go down well,” she said.

Duncan continued searching for answers about Kaitlyn’s death until her own death in 2016.

In 2021, Paul Apodaca confessed to killing Arquette and two other women in New Mexico in the late 1980s. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison in 2024. Duncan never lived to see that resolution.

There is an irony to Duncan’s complicated relationship with the movie.

She disliked what the adaptation had become, but she also recognized that having her book turned into a successful movie brought renewed attention to her work. In the same interview, she acknowledged that the movie made her backlist “suddenly very popular.”

So I Know What You Did Last Summer left Duncan, who is widely regarded as a pioneer of young adult fiction, with two very different legacies.

The film became a nostalgic touchstone for a generation of horror fans. Its cast became closely associated with the late-’90s teen-horror boom, its Fisherman became an instantly recognizable slasher villain and the movie’s success helped establish the franchise alongside Scream as one of the era’s defining horror properties. The movie spawned three sequels, including a 2025 revival, as well as a TV adaptation.

But Duncan’s experience with the film remained fundamentally different from the one shared by its audience. She had expected to see her novel brought to the screen and instead watched its characters, plot and tone transformed into something far more violent. Her reaction is an unusual footnote to a movie that became a defining part of 1990s horror.

HBO has named Nicholas Cage’s True Detective Season 5 co-lead: Antonio Banderas. According to Rolling Stone, the network announced the casting update in a teaser that paid homage to the crime anthology series’ prior seasons led by Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and more ahead of introducing its upcoming true detectives.

The network is keeping the details of Season 5 under wraps, but it has confirmed that Cage will star as Henry Logan and Banderas will play Rai Garcia, Deadline reported. The new season—which is being led by show runner Issa López, who spearheaded Season 4, Night Country, of the show—will be set in Jamaica Bay, New York. According to Entertainment Weekly, both Cage and Banderas will executive produce the season.  

The announcement comes a week after Cage announced his casting at New York Comic Con. “Feed the family; don’t do too many movies back to back to back. So I think I’m probably gonna do another season of television. I think I might do a season of True Detective,” he said on Oct. 10. “That’s okay that I’m the first to announce that, right?” The announcement may have been premature, as it was reported that his casting wasn’t finalized until later that week. 

Cage and Banderas teaming up on Season 5 may not shock fans. Speculation that Cage would be tapped for a True Detective season started to spread as early as August 2025, while rumors of Banderas’ casting started to fly around later in the year, The Hollywood Reporter reported at the time. 

Both Cage and Banderas have appeared in several recent projects. Cage recently appeared in the Marvel series Spider-Noir and is set to star in David O. Russell’s sports biopic Madden alongside Christain Bale, Entertainment Weekly reported. Banderas appeared in Matthew Johnson’s Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony alongside Dominic Sessa and led the romantic comedy Up Against It, which also stars Eva Birthistle, Forest Whitaker, and Richard E. Grant. He will also portray Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés in Paul Mignot’s Cortés. 

Nothing can ruin a delicious meal quite like gas, bloating or heartburn. Sometimes, you might make a conscious choice to eat something that you know might make you feel uncomfortable later, like a spicy dish you’ve been craving or a cheese-loaded meal, even though you’re sensitive to dairy.

But what’s really frustrating is when you feel uncomfortable after dinner and you have no idea why. You stuck to eating foods you know agree with you. You made sure the spice level was one you could handle. What gives?

According to gastroenterologists we talked to, there’s one common after-dinner habit that causes many people to experience gas, bloating or heartburn. What’s surprising about it is that it’s a habit that’s totally healthy! Keep reading to find out what it is and how to prevent it from causing any gastrointestinal distress.

The After-Dinner Habit That Could Cause Bloating and Heartburn

People are drinking less alcohol these days, which is certainly beneficial for health. In fact, according to a 2025 Gallup poll, alcohol consumption in the US is the lowest it’s been in 90 years. The main reason poll-takers gave for drinking less was to support and improve their health. 

Instead of having an alcoholic beverage in the evening, more people are enjoying alcohol-free carbonated beverages instead, such as bottled or canned alcohol-free cocktails, sparkling water or kombucha. While this is certainly a healthier habit than drinking alcohol, gastroenterologists tell Parade that, for some people, drinking a carbonated drink after dinner can cause gas, bloating or heartburn—especially when it’s consumed close to bedtime.

“Cutting back on alcohol can have numerous benefits for health, energy, sleep quality and overall well-being. But what you replace it with matters. Substituting it for high-sugar mocktails, sugar-sweetened sodas or other beverages may bring their own negative effects,” says Dr. Christopher McGowan, MD, AGAF, a gastroenterologist and obesity medicine specialist at Everself.

Dr. McGowan explains that carbonated drinks contain dissolved carbon dioxide, which is released as gas in the stomach. “We also swallow some air whenever we eat or drink, especially if we gulp. More gas in means more gas has to come out. It’s that simple,” he says.

Dr. Ali Aamar, MD, a gastroenterologist at Houston Methodist, agrees. “The fizz in those drinks is trapped in carbon dioxide gas. When you drink a seltzer, you are literally swallowing bubbles of air. Once that liquid enters the warm environment of your stomach, those bubbles expand,” he says.

He explains that the stomach lining has to stretch to make room for all this extra air, which triggers a bloated feeling. “From there, you’re either going to burp it back up, or it’s passing into your intestines and causing gas,” he adds.

Dr. Aamar explains that carbonated drinks can cause heartburn because when the stomach fills up with carbonated bubbles, it creates a lot of upward pressure. This causes the esophageal valve to open and stomach acid splashes into the esophagus, which then leads to heartburn.

What About Kombucha?

Now that it’s been explained by the G.I. docs, it’s probably starting to make sense how a carbonated beverage can lead to feeling uncomfortable. But what about kombucha, which is often heralded as a gut-healthy drink? Aren’t all of its glorious probiotics meant to make your gut happier and less agitated? 

Despite its health halo, Dr. McGowan says that kombucha checks several boxes known to lead to bloating and heartburn: It’s carbonated, acidic and fermented. Besides the carbonation itself, Dr. Aamar explains that kombucha contains yeast and sugar.

“If your gut bacteria are already a little out of balance, microbes rapidly ferment those sugars, creating a massive wave of gas in your intestines. On top of that, kombucha is incredibly acidic—practically like drinking vinegar. If your stomach valve is already a little weak, pouring that extra acid right onto it is an instant recipe for heartburn,” he tells Parade.

With this in mind, Dr. McGowan warns against drinking kombucha just to benefit your gut health. If it doesn’t give you any unwanted side effects, amazing. But if it does, don’t drink it just to get the probiotics. There are plenty of other sources of probiotics you can prioritize instead.

How To Enjoy Carbonated Drinks Without the Unwanted Side Effects

Both gastroenterologists emphasize that the takeaway from all this isn’t to stop drinking carbonated beverages. Unless you get heartburn or other bothersome symptoms every single time you drink one, you don’t need to give them up. You just need to adjust how you drink them. 

First, both doctors say to avoid having a carbonated drink close to bedtime. “During the day, gravity keeps your food, gas and stomach acid pulled downward. When you lie flat in bed, you lose that gravity advantage,” Dr. Aamar says. This means it’s easier for acid to enter the esophageal valve and into your throat. To avoid this, have your carbonated drink earlier in the day or evening.

Another way to still enjoy your sparkling drinks without the side effects is to consume a smaller amount, a tip Dr. McGowan offers up. He adds that ditching straws and drinking straight from the glass helps too, if you’re able to.

And both doctors say that waiting a few minutes after opening the drink before you enjoy it can also help. “Pour it over ice and give it a swirl. Letting it sit in a glass for a minute lets the harshest, most aggressive bubbles escape into the air instead of expanding inside you,” Dr. Aamar says. 

It’s also important to remember that not everyone is negatively impacted by carbonated drinks. “There is tremendous individual variability. If you feel great drinking sparkling water, there’s no medical reason to give it up simply because it’s carbonated. But if every can leaves you bloated, uncomfortable or reaching for an antacid, that’s probably a sign carbonation just isn’t for you,” Dr. McGowan explains.

But before giving it up completely, try the tips the doctors shared above. You simply may need to drink it less—and earlier in the day.
