If you go to the TED Talk website and look at some of their most-viewed presentations, you’ll find Sir Ken Robinson. He was an author, speaker, international advisor and creativity expert whose 2006 TED Talk titled “Do schools kill creativity?” has over 80 million views. His main points usually revolved around the fact that he believed we weren't getting the “best out of people” because we're not educating people to be creative thinkers, but rather just good workers, per the TED Talk site. Those who have a lot of energy, imagination and curiosity are often shamed for it, and their creativity is stunted or shunned in the process.

He also wrote about creating the best version of yourself and how that worked in conjunction with helping others. And our quote of the day focuses on something the British visionary wrote 27 years ago about how helping others is what creates lasting legacies for people.

According to the Sir Ken Robinson Foundation, he didn’t just speak about his thoughts regarding creativity and schools; he worked with governments, international organizations, educational institutions and more “to unlock the creative energy of people and organizations.” He spearheaded the Unlocking Creativity initiative, as part of the Peace Process in Northern Ireland, which was a “strategy for creative and economic development.”

Born in 1950 on Merseyside, per Liverpool Echo, Robinson went on to teach at the University of Warwick for 12 years as a professor of arts education. And in 2003, he was knighted for his services to art, per The London Gazette. He received many other awards and honors throughout his life, and died in 2020 after a “short battle” with cancer.

Again, today’s quote features something Robinson wrote almost three decades ago about the lasting power of helping others, and it still holds quite a bit of weight today.

This quote appears in Robinson’s 2009 book, The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything. As its description explains, it’s a “breakthrough book about talent, passion and achievement.” 

“The element is the point at which natural talent meets personal passion,” it reads. And to explain and share this concept, Robinson uses anecdotes from many different people, such as Paul McCartney, Meg Ryan, Matt Groening (the creator of The Simpsons), physicist Ricard Feynman, writer Ariana Huffington and others.

He also makes the case that diversity in intelligence, ideas and more, along with the “power of imagination and creativity,” is important for developing our own skills. And once we hit our potential, we can help others, which adds even more to our lives.

Deeper Meaning of Ken Robinson’s Quote—Helping Others and Leaving a Legacy

Sir Ken Robinson's own legacy has a lot to do with educating children in a way that doesn’t kill their creativity and finding radical new ways to structure school systems so that imagination is cultivated, not thwarted. So this quote makes a ton of sense, regarding what he's remembered for. Robinson never seemed to write or speak about bettering yourself without some element of it including how you can positively impact others. 

This quote has quite a straightforward message: as much as you can better yourself, you’ll be most remembered for what you contribute to other people’s lives. You can do all the self-help workshops or read all of the self-improvement books you’d like. You can be as healthy as possible, get your master's degree and accomplish all of the monetary goals you might have. But you won’t be remembered for all of the good you did for yourself; instead, your legacy will hinge on what you did for your community or other people.

You shouldn’t help those in need, family members or your community just because of what you’re going to get out of it, or on the chance that you will have a lasting legacy. However, by doing so with good intentions, you’re putting a part of you out into the world, and your good deeds will have a domino effect that lasts long after you die.

Sam Neill, who is best known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park series, died on Monday, July 13, at the age of 78.

His cause of death has officially been revealed.

The actor died of pneumonia, according to a statement from his representative, Philip Grenz.

"Sam passed away from pneumonia. Prior to becoming sick, Sam had valiantly fought and beaten lymphoma through a new treatment called CAR-T therapy. In addition to running his award-winning winery, Two Paddocks, Sam had filmed four projects back-to-back during the past year, all of which will be released within the coming months,” Grenz said, per The Guardian.

Neill's friend and Hunt for the Wilderpeople co-star Rima Te Wiata also revealed earlier this week during an interview (per The New Zealand Herald) that he had been battling pneumonia.

"It really sucks actually," Te Wiata said. "As he said in the press once, he’s not scared of death but he would be annoyed. He would be like, ‘Oh for goodness sake I just got over my cancer and now look, now I get pneumonia. What next? But he’s on his big journey now’.”

Grenz went on to describe the actor as "an intensely private man who loathed a fuss”. Because of that, a private memorial will be held at his farm in New Zealand on a later date with only his family in attendance.

“I’d like to thank those who were truly close to Sam for considering his privacy with the respect he earned and his loved ones need and deserve during this immeasurably difficult time,” Grenz continued, adding that for fans who want to honor the actor's legacy, they should make donations to "one of the causes he cared about most deeply."

That includes the Dunstan Hospital Foundation in Central Otago, the Snowdome Foundation, as well as other New Zealand charities focused on protecting the environment.

Neill previously battled cancer, having been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, which is a type of blood cancer, in March 2022, but was “cancer-free” when he died.

Andy Serkis defended the lack of diversity in his upcoming film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

The 62-year-old will reprise his role as Gollum as well as direct this movie, which has received backlash for its all-white cast. Serkis spoke to the BBC about the controversy. 

“Tolkien himself was influenced a lot by Norse mythology, there’s a lot of that feeling,” he said. “The Shire feels very, very much like a very, a very white, you know… They’re not very concerned about what goes on beyond the borders of The Shire, but they know they don’t want people coming in.”

So far, the actors announced have included JamieDornan, Anna Taylor-Joy, KateWinslet, Lee Pace, Leo Woodall, Elijah Wood, and Ian McKellen. Additional cast members for the next installment in The Lord of the Rings franchise have not been released.

“Yes, there have been criticisms,” he said. “This particular film is somewhat acknowledging that. But I don’t think we will be doing a politically correct just-casting-for-the sake-of-casting-and-ticking-boxes version of the film. So, it’s where relevant basically.”

This isn’t the first time The Lord of the Rings has faced backlash surrounding casting.

The 2022 Prime Video series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, was criticized for its inclusive cast. Racist outcries were so prominent that stars from Peter Jackson’s films, such as Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, and Dominic Monaghan, came out in support of the show’s diverse casting. They showed off shirts featuring Middle-earth creatures in various skin tones.

Furthermore, The Rings of Poweractors published a statement condemning “the relentless racism, threats, harassment, and abuse some of our castmates of color are being subjected to on a daily basis.”

“Tolkien created a world which, by definition, is multi-cultural,” the statement began. “A world in which free peoples from, different races and cultures join together, in fellowship, to defeat the forces of evil. ‘Rings of Power’ reflects that. Our world has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white, Middle-earth is not all white.”

Originally written and released in 1970 by the British rock band Badfinger, American singer-songwriter Harry Nilssonfirst heard the song"Without You" at a party. Nilsson was immediately taken with the track, but he believed it to be a Beatles song. Once he learned it was not, he decided to give it a shot as a cover.

Producer Richard Perry worked with Nilsson to create a heavy ballad version of the track, complete with a full orchestra. The recording of the power ballad ended up on Nilsson's seventh studio album, Nilsson Schmilsson, and the single version was released in 1971.

In February of 1972, the track claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, where it would stay for four weeks. In the United Kingdom, the song spent five weeks at number one and sold over 800,000 copies. This was the only track in Nilsson's career to do so.

When discussing the single, Producer Perry said, "It was a different record for its time. It was a big ballad with a heavy backbeat, and although many artists have cut songs like it since, no one was doing it then."

Due to the success of the song it went on to be considered by many to be Nilsson's signature song, despite the fact that it was a cover. This is also likely because, while originally being written and recorded by Badfinger, the band never released the track as a single.

"Without You" was covered by even more artists over the years, including Air Supply, Dame Shirley Bassey, Glen Campbell, T.G. Shepherd, and Mariah Carey.

"Without You" went on to be nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year, and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, the latter of which Nilsson won. In 2021, Rolling Stone included Nilsson's version of "Without You" on their ranking of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

Beloved sitcom star Halroy ‘Hal’ Williams has died at the age of 87, according to Deadline.

Williams, best known for his role as Officer ‘Smitty’ Smith on the NBC sitcom Sanford and Son between 1972 and 1976, died on July 15, 2026, at his home in Rancho Mirage, a representative for the actor told Deadline. No cause of death was released at the time of publication.

The actor was just seen on Wednesday, July 10, 2026, on WKYC, where he was interviewed about his experiences in television. When asked why Sanford and Son continues to resonate with viewers nearly fifty years later, Williams shared that the reason was simple. “Because the humor was so real and wasn't artificial, and it was just generally funny, funny, funny, one laugh after another all the time.”

In the comment section of the interview, fans acknowledged how sharp Williams was for his age, with one user writing, "It was so great seeing Hal Williams doing so well, he is still sharp as a tack and seems in relatively good health." While a second fan jokingly acknowledged how good Williams looked, adding, "At 87 years old to be that sharp and also to have a head full of hair is an absolute blessing."

Over the last sixty years, Williams had a long and varied career in television, including appearances on The Waltons, Gunsmoke, Roots: The Next Generation, Knots Landing, and many more. Having appeared in nearly 30 series. Most recently, Williams had a guest appearance on an episode of the CBS drama Matlock in 2024.

In addition to his work in television, the beloved actor also starred on the stage, appearing as Boise McCanles in the 1981 production of Nevis Mountain Dew at the Los Angeles Actors Theater.

Williams also appeared in more than ten feature films, including appearances in Herbie Rides Again, The Cherokee Kid, Guess Who, Night Club, and Flight.

According to Deadline, Williams is survived by two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Former Mötley Crüe frontman John Corabi has officially left hard rock supergroup The Dead Daisies, marking the second time the singer has exited the band during his 38-year career in rock music.

The Dead Daisies confirmed Corabi's departure in a statement shared through representatives and published by Blabbermouth.

"It has come to our attention that John Corabi has decided to leave The Dead Daisies. We'd like to sincerely thank John for his incredible contribution to the band over the years and wish him nothing but success with his solo career and all his future endeavours."

Corabi has not publicly commented on the split since the announcement was made.

The veteran rocker first joined The Dead Daisies in 2015, having initially performed with the band as a touring member. During his first run with the group, he recorded three studio albums: Revolución (2015), Make Some Noise (2016) and Burn It Down (2018).

He departed in 2019 when Deep Purple and Black Sabbath vocalist Glenn Hughes joined the lineup.

Corabi later returned to The Dead Daisies in May 2023 after Hughes stepped away following a four-year stint with the band. His latest tenure lasted a little more than three years.

The timing of Corabi's exit has drawn attention following The Dead Daisies' reunion performance with Hughes on May 30 at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois. Performing under the name "The Purple Daisies," Hughes joined guitarist Doug Aldrich, drummer Tommy Clufetos and founder David Lowy for a special show that mixed The Dead Daisies songs with Deep Purple classics.

Following the sold-out event, a second performance was scheduled for October at The Canyon Club in California.

Earlier this month, Corabi hinted that his role within the band had become unclear while speaking with Thomas S. Orwat Jr. of the Rock Interview Series.

"To be quite honest with you, I don't know what is going on with that band right now. Michael [Devin, The Dead Daisies bassist] and I are just kind of sitting here scratching our heads," Corabi said.

The singer explained that he informed management about signing with Frontiers Music Srl for a solo album and believed the band planned to take a year-long break.

"Last year when I told [The Dead Daisies management] I got this record deal, I told them, 'Hey, I signed a deal with Frontiers. I'm gonna do a solo album.' And they were, like, 'Okay, cool.'"

According to Corabi, the situation became confusing when the band began moving forward with other projects during what he believed would be downtime.

"And then we're on tour, and then all of a sudden it's like they're doing a show with Glenn Hughes, who I adore, so don't read anything into that. I love Glenn Hughes."

He continued: "Michael and I are, like, 'Are we still employed by The Daisies or…?' I don't even know what's going on."

Despite the uncertainty, Corabi said he was focused on his own music.

"But I'm not worried about it. I'm just, like, 'You know what? Whatever.' I'm very happy doing what I'm doing, and I'm very proud of the record that I just delivered."

John Corabi Turns Attention Toward Solo Career

Corabi released his latest solo album, New Day, in April through Frontiers Music Srl and has increasingly shifted his attention toward solo work.

The move comes after a long career that began in the late 1980s and included time with The Scream, Mötley Crüe, Union, Ratt and several other hard rock projects.

Corabi became widely known after replacing Vince Neil as Mötley Crüe's lead singer in 1992, remaining with the band until Neil returned in 1996.

Just last week, Corabi reflected on his departure from Mötley Crüe and the friendships he felt he lost during that period.

"The hardest part, to me, out of that Mötley thing was I felt like I was losing three friends,” he told This Day in Metal.

Despite the challenges, the singer said he remains thankful for the opportunity.

"I love the opportunity that Mötley Crüe gave me, and if I could just be blatantly honest, I know — nobody knows better than I do — that had I not been in Mötley Crüe, I'm not saying I wouldn't have had a career, but it definitely helped me get to this point."

Meanwhile, The Dead Daisies are expected to continue their plans for an extensive United States and European tour in 2027.

Before he became synonymous with timeless country hits like "The Gambler" and "Lady," Kenny Rogers proved he wasn't afraid to try something completely different.

On July 16, 1982, Rogers starred in Six Pack, a family comedy-drama that marked one of the biggest acting roles of his career and introduced audiences to a side of the country superstar they hadn't seen before.

In the film, Rogers plays Brewster Baker, a down-on-his-luck stock car driver whose race car is stripped by a group of orphaned children. Instead of turning them in, Baker reluctantly takes the kids under his wing, and together they help revive his racing career while forming an unlikely family.

The heartwarming film blended comedy, racing action and family drama, earning more than $20 million at the box office during its theatrical run. It also helped cement Rogers' growing presence in Hollywood during the early 1980s.

While Rogers had already appeared in television movies and specials, Six Pack gave him one of his first opportunities to carry a major theatrical release. His easygoing charisma translated naturally to the screen, and audiences embraced his everyman performance as the kind-hearted race car driver.

Looking back, the movie also introduced viewers to several young actors who would go on to successful careers, including Diane Lane, who played one of the teenagers caring for the younger children.

Although Six Pack isn't discussed as often as Rogers' chart-topping music career, it remains a nostalgic favorite for many fans who grew up in the 1980s. The film showcased the singer's natural warmth and reinforced why he became one of country music's most beloved crossover stars.

Rogers would continue acting throughout his career, most famously portraying Brady Hawkes in the popular The Gambler television movies based on his signature hit.

But for many fans, Six Pack remains a reminder of a time when one of country music's biggest stars successfully shifted gears from the recording studio to the silver screen.

Cream may have been a short-lived band, but this supergroup created a timeless track that became one of the most recognizable and enduring anthems of the classic rock era.

Formed in 1966, the trio consisted of Eric Clapton from The Yardbirds, Ginger Baker and vocalist Jack Bruce from Blues Incorporated and the Graham Bond Organisation. Together, they are widely considered as the first official supergroup in rock music.

"I had always liked Ginger", Clapton shared in a 1997 Guitar World interview, "Ginger had come to see me play with the Bluesbreakers. After the gig, he drove me back to London in his Rover. I was very impressed with his car and driving. He was telling me that he wanted to start a band, and I had been thinking about it too.”

The union ultimately solidified its place as one of rock's most influential and celebrated supergroups.

Furthermore, the band has frequently been named among the greatest supergroups of all time, alongside legendary all-star ensembles like Bad Company, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Traveling Wilburys and others.

With Cream introducing a different kind of lineup, fans were intrigued by its unique sound, which blended jazz fusion, heavy blues rock and psychedelia.

It’s easy to see why their 1967 track "Sunshine of Your Love" became the band’s signature anthem.

Part of their sophomore album, Disraeli Gears, the single became Cream’s highest-charting song, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining on the chart for 26 weeks.

Written by the trio alongside lyricist Pete Brown, "Sunshine of Your Love" was born out of an all-night songwriting session.

By the next morning, Bruce had a eureka moment. Inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s London performance, the Cream member wanted to capture the guitarist’s energy and heavy playing style.

Picking up his acoustic guitar, he played the now-iconic riff while Brown wrote down the opening line, “just like in one of those really cheesy biopics.”

“Pete and I had been working all night trying to come up with some songs,” the bassist and vocalist said, as mentioned in Louder Sound’s report. “I just picked up my double bass and looked out the window, and the sun was coming up. And I just started playing the riff of ‘Sunshine of Your Love.’”

The unexpected moment sparked the song's signature melody, with Clapton adding the chorus section, which Bruce later described as a “really nice turnaround part.”

Unfortunately, after releasing iconic hits like "White Room," "Crossroads" and "Badge," along with four studio albums, the band announced its breakup in 1968. Its final album, Goodbye, was released in 1969 as a post-breakup farewell record.

One of General Hospital’s most anticipated returns is right around the corner as Kelly Kruger confirms her debut date as Serena Baldwin.

Kruger took to Instagram to share the news with fans. “It’s official!!! My first air date on General Hospital will be 7/30.”

Kruger’s credits also include appearances on Criminal Minds, How to Make it in America, and Blue Mountain State, alongside many more.

Serena Baldwin was last seen on General Hospital in 2017, with actress Carly Schroeder portraying the role, reprising her part from the former ABC series Port Charles. Serena is the daughter of legacy character Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and Dominique Baldwin (Shell Danielson) and the adopted daughter of Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring).
