Jussie Smollett Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance 7 Years After Alleged Hate Crime

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 1:52pm

Jussie Smollett is back in the spotlight seven years after his alleged hate crime.

Smollett, 42, got his first taste of fame in the popular children's hockey film The Mighty Ducks. He went on to play Jamal Lyon in the popular FOX drama series Empire from 2015 to 2019 alongside Taraji P. Jenson and Terrence Howard. While Smollett has done his best to lay low in recent years, the actor was back on the red carpet this week to attend the press night performance of "Sea Witch" at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, England.

Smollett's Alleged Attack

Smollett claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood in 2019. However, police and city officials later said he orchestrated the hoax hate crime against himself, NBC News reported. The city of Chicago went on to sue Smollett, accusing him of submitting a false police report, saying he knew his attackers and planned the attack. They also sought $130,000 in expenses spent on the police investigation. Smollett filed a countersuit denying that he orchestrated the attack, and he denied making a false police report.

By 2025, the city and Smollett told the court they had settled “but need more time to finalize documentation, NBC continued.

Last year, Smollett shared a post on Instagram that stated he made a $50,000 donation to the Building Brighter Futures Center for the Arts, a Chicago-based non-profit that nurtures self-expression, creativity, and exploration of the arts for Chicago youth. He shared he would also make a $10,000 donation to the Chicago Torture Justice Center, which helps those healing from the violence of the Chicago Police Department.

Last year, a new documentary examined the incident with never-before-seen footage and new interviews with Smollett and the two men who reported to police that they were hired to attack him, brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, Netflix reported. The film marked the first time Smollett spoke publicly about the incident since he was interviewed by Robin Roberts in 2019.

‘Tournament of Champions’ Fans Think They’ve Spotted Gordon Ramsay as a Secret Icon

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 1:52pm

Before I watch a single minute of Tournament of Champions season 7, I’m putting my guesses on the record of who I think the secret icons are.

Yes, I do receive screeners for Tournament of Champions — and no, I have not watched the season 7 premiere yet. Food Network has been teasing that four “culinary legends” will enter the TOC VII bracket as top seeds, with their identities kept secret until they walk into the arena. The premiere episode will reveal the first one.

RELATED: ‘Tournament of Champions’ Season 7 Bracket Revealed: Here Are the Official Matchups

But before that happens, I wanted my predictions locked in.

Earlier this week, Food Network posted silhouette images of the four mystery chefs with the caption: “Four culinary legends are joining the TOC competition this year, but we're keeping them a surprise until their battle. Can you guess who they are??”

View this post on Instagram

Fans immediately went into detective mode.

One commenter wrote, “1. Ming Tsai 2. Morimoto 3. Jonathan Waxman 4. Eric Ripert.”

Another chimed in with, “1. Ming Tsai 2. Morimoto 3. Jonathan Waxman 4. wait for it Wolfgang Puck.”

RELATED: Fans Think Bobby Flay Is One of ‘Tournament of Champions’ Season 7’s Secret Icons

And then there’s the name that stirred the most cross-network chaos: Gordon Ramsay.

“I noticed @gordongram show Kitchen Nightmares has suddenly appeared on @foodnetwork Coincidence?” one fan asked, referencing the fact that Ramsay's show Kitchen Nightmares, which airs on FOX, recently had its first season added to Food Network Go.

Another replied, “AGREEEEE!!!! 😮,” while a third added, “Great guess, looks like 4 could be Gordon.”

Would Ramsay actually cross networks to compete on a Food Network flagship series? It would be shocking. His current lineup of shows airs on FOX, and a competition appearance would be a major moment. But if Food Network somehow pulled it off, the fourth silhouette—the most disguised of the bunch and also presumably the final one to be revealed—would be the one.

RELATED: All the Chefs Competing in ‘Tournament of Champions VII’

Meanwhile, several fans pointed toward Masaharu Morimoto and Ming Tsai. And frankly, those two silhouettes do look eerily close.

Jonathan Waxman is another strong possibility for the third figure, though some fans think it could be Michael Symon or Andrew Zimmern.

There’s also debate about whether one of the icons could be female. Some viewers suggested Lorena Garcia, noting the second silhouette appears to have longer sleeves and could have their hair back in a ponytail. During earlier teaser clips in the qualifying episodes, one backlit figure did appear female.

RELATED: ‘Tournament of Champions’ Season 7 Qualifiers Night 1: Eliminations and Winners Revealed

Of course, Bobby Flay remains one of the most persistent fan theories. Multiple commenters wrote variations of “Will Bobby Flay finally compete?” and “If you tell me icon, I want Bobby!” The longtime Food Network star has never entered the TOC arena as a competitor, which makes him a logical pick for the “icon” twist.

That said, none of the silhouettes appear to match Flay’s profile particularly well—though if he were somehow disguising his stance, the fourth figure would be the only plausible option.

Now, for my official guesses — locked in before I watch the premiere:

  1. Ming Tsai
  2. Lorena Garcia
  3. Jonathan Waxman
  4. Daniel Boulud

RELATED: ‘Tournament of Champions’ Season 7 Qualifiers Night 2: Final 4 Bracket Spots Decided

Notably, the icons cannot be any of the already-announced judges this season, which include Alex Guarnaschelli, Cat Cora, Curtis Stone, David Chang, Dominique Crenn, Geoffrey Zakarian, Hubert Keller, Judy Joo, Ken Oringer, Marcus Samuelsson, Michelle Bernstein, Nancy Silverton, Rocco DiSpirito, Scott Conantand Susan Feniger.

Whoever they are, the reveal begins Sunday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network—and now my guesses are officially on the record.

We’ll see how wrong I am soon enough.

Speaking about writing the series, Williams shared his journey on X.

The author explained that his journey to create Blood at the Root began in 2019, “In 2019 I came up with an idea about a Black kid from my hometown going to a magical HBCU.”

The following year, everything changed, “In 2020 where the world was shut down, I filmed a short film while sleeping in my car. When Hollywood told me no, I turned it into a book, and it became a bestseller and was on major TV outlets.”

Williams continued, “Today, I’m officially saying goodbye to Malik Baron. This character has been with me through it all. He’s weathered so many storms, so much judgment and ridicule, but as he always reminds me, he’s apart of something way bigger. I’m gonna miss this knuckle head. But here’s to many more Black stories in fantasy where WE ALL get to be the heroes. #BloodattheRoot

Ashes at the Alter is available for preorder now, with an expected publication date of September 15, 2026.

The first two books in the trilogy, Blood at the Root and Bones at the Crossroad are available now.

42 Years Ago, a ’70s Music Legend Made Massive History

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 1:10pm

Forty-two years ago, legendary pop artist Michael Jackson made music history by sweeping the 26th annual Grammy Award Ceremony.

The ceremony, held on February 28, 1984, came just a year and a half after the release of Jackson's iconic 1982 album, Thriller. Due to the unmatched reception the album experienced, Jackson received a record-breaking 12 nominations, eight of which he won. This marked the highest number of Grammys won in a single night by any artist in history—a feat only rivaled when Carlos Santana tied the record at the 2000 ceremony.

Jackson took over the live broadcast, stunning viewers in a blue and gold bedazzled suit, sparkling silver gloves and large aviator-style sunglasses. During his seventh acceptance speech, the pop legend adjusted his look, removing his dark glasses for his iconic record-breaking moment.

"I made a deal with my self, if I win one more award, which is this award, which is seven, which is a record, I would take off my glasses," Jackson said. "No, I don't want to take them off, not really. Well Katherine Hepburn, who is a dear friend of mine, she told me I should and I'm doing it for her. And the girls in the back."

The memorable victory was well-deserved after the massive critical acclaim and commercial success of Thriller. Since its release, the album has become the best-selling album of all time, selling an estimated 70 million copies worldwide. It was also the first album to be certified Platinum 34 times by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The ceremony takeover showcased Jackson's industry domination, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest pop acts in history.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Update: 'It's Not Good News' Says Trusted Journalist on Day 28

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 1:05pm

The search for Nancy Guthrie has entered into its second month, but things are starting to appear more grim as time goes by. Guthrie, 84, went missing back on Sunday, Feb. 1, and authorities believe that she may have been abducted from her Arizona home in the middle of the night.

Despite receiving thousands of tips, neither the Pima County Sheriff's Department nor the FBI have publicly identified a suspect or suspects.

As the investigation continues to evolve, NewsNation's Brian Entin said what many people are thinking.

"It's not good news that it's now day 28," Entin said in a video posted to YouTube on February 28. "Most of these kinds of cases usually get solved within the first couple of day. I don't think it's a cold case... I do think it's going to be solved, I just think it's taking longer than a lot of us expected."

Earlier in the investigation, Parade spoke exclusively with retired NYPD sergeant Joe Giacalone about the case.

“It’s really the first hour, we refer to it as the golden hour,” Giacalone said. "That’s the most important thing that first hour [when someone is reported missing]."

Guthrie's home in the Catalina Foothills has been searched numerous times, but the Pima County Sheriff's Department didn't secure the crime scene after its initial sweep, which may have caused some issues when it comes to preserving the space for DNA collection, for example.

Now, Guthrie's home has reportedly been turned over to her family.

This Cute Spring Front Door Decor Is Perfect for Every Bunny

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Every year when spring arrives, it feels like such an exhale moment, don't you think? It isn't just the start of (hopefully) warmer weather and longer days; it feels like a little reset. Maybe the new year didn't exactly kick off the way you were hoping it would, or the cold weather just made you feel kind of sluggish. Spring is that moment when everything and everyone wakes up a little.

One of the easiest spots around your home to give a spring pick-me-up is your front door. That spot where the Christmas wreath hung just a few months ago? It's been looking a little sad. Adding some fresh decor will instantly bring a smile to your face—and make your home feel inviting for guests, too.

‘The Sopranos’ Creator Looks Back on Original Script Where 'Nobody Got Killed'

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 12:44pm

It's almost impossible to imagine The Sopranos without the mob hits, betrayals, drugs, and brutal violence that defined the series. Would it still be considered one of the greatest shows ever made without all of that?

According to creator David Chase, it nearly happened. According to People, during a panel discussion at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City on Feb. 26, Chase revealed that when he was pitching the show to traditional networks, he had a version that was far less violent than the one that ultimately aired. In fact, he admitted that in the early draft, "nobody got killed."

Despite toning it down to appease networks like Fox, they still passed on it.

“Everybody turned it down. But I did a rewrite. See, the first draft that I did, which was for Fox…nobody got killed because it was a network show,” Chase shared. “I thought, ‘I can't have a murder. I can't have somebody…have Tony [Soprano] kill somebody.’ And then they didn't do it.”

Chase shared that he ultimately returned to the original version, restoring the violence that fans have come to associate with the series, a decision that made the story of an Italian-American mob boss feel far more authentic.

"I rewrote it and I put in a murder, that Chris kills this Czechoslovakian guy, and that then sold,” he shared on the panel.

'The Sopranos' Cast Reunited for the Show's 25th Anniversary in 2024

In June 2024, the cast reunited for the show's 25th anniversary, sharing memories of working with the late James Gandolfini, whose portrayal of mob boss Tony Soprano remains one of television's most iconic performances.

"They loved him because Jim had some magic in him, but you saw this damaged heart or something in that character," Steve Schirripa shared with Today, who portrayed Bobby Baccalieri in the series.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who played Tony's daughter Meadow Soprano, also reflected on working with Gandolfini before he died in 2013.

“I felt protected by him and loved by him. And he really was one of a kind, and I feel very lucky to have been guided by him for as long as I was," she said.

The Sopranos aired for six seasons from 1999 to 2007, with its final episode delivering one of the most-talked-about endings in television history.

Harrison Ford Fought Ridley Scott Over 'Blade Runner': Here's Who Was Right

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 12:41pm

Harrison Ford has never been interested in the word iconic. When SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin sat down with him ahead of next month's Actor Awards, where Ford will receive the union's Life Achievement Award, Astin reached for it almost immediately. Ford stopped him.

'I'd really rather live with the words working actor,' he said.

The interview made it clear that distinction matters to Ford. The 83-year-old traced a career that began with uncertainty, rejection...and stubbornness.

His first screen role was a bellboy at Columbia Pictures, where he was under contract. After the performance, a studio executive summoned him and delivered a verdict. 'You're never gonna make it in this business,' the man told him. The executive then held up Tony Curtis as the standard. Curtis had a role delivering groceries in his first film, and audiences immediately recognized a movie star.

Ford's response was very Harrison-Ford-blunt. 'I thought you were supposed to think that was a grocery delivery,' he told the executive.

He was let go from Columbia after a year and a half of a seven-year contract. Within three months he was under contract at Universal. He left there after a year and a half as well. He had children. Money was tight. He kept working.

Blade Runner produced one of the more revealing moments in the interview. Ford and director Ridley Scott disagreed openly about the nature of Deckard regarding whether he was human or a replicant (an artificial human, which Deckard's character hunted). Scott believed Deckard was a replicant and would know it. Ford refused to play it that way.

'I cannot communicate as a human being from that place,' Ford told Astin. His reasoning was blunt. 'I had no experience as a replicant.' He played Deckard as human. The tension between the two interpretations became, in Ford's view, exactly the tension the audience was meant to feel.

The film is now considered one of the most influential science fiction movies ever made.

Ford acknowledged luck as a recurring thread in his career. 'My career is fueled by luck,' he said, while also describing acting in the same terms he uses for flying (something he still does). 'Flying is an earned freedom,' he said. 'There's a responsibility underlying it that is key to the whole exercise. I feel the same way about acting.'

He is currently in the third season of Apple TV+'s Shrinking, a comedy-drama in which he plays a therapist with Parkinson's disease, describing the ensemble experience as 'enriching.' He also recently completed two seasons of 1923, the Yellowstoneprequel, opposite Helen Mirren.

Ford will receive the Life Achievement Award , SAG-AFTRA's highest honor, at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on March 1, streaming live on Netflixfrom the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. He is the 61st recipient in the award's history.

Is It OK for Kids To Use the Term 'Big Back'? A Child Psychologist Weighs In

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 12:40pm

It's possible you've heard the phrase "big back" on social media, like TikTok, or even in person from kids and tweens who have picked up on the viral slang in recent years. Some common uses of the phrase in everyday conversations include "big back behavior," "big backed" or "unbig my back." Kids and tweens might overhear this in the cafeteria at school if they have what others deem an unhealthy lunch that day, or they might even witness someone telling that to a friend after seeing how much they just ate. But what exactly does the term "big bag" mean?

Again, although a child might think it's just a harmless joke, this type of name-calling can be harmful both in the short and long term.

"Kids absorb labels, not just hear them," Dr. Bethany Cook, a licensed clinical psychologist who works with children and adults, tells Parade. "Body-based language can quietly become part of a child's self-image even when it’s said once or meant as a joke. Insecurity doesn’t need accuracy to take root, and comments that don’t reflect reality can still create self-doubt and fuel comparison or body awareness."

Ahead, we break down what "big back" means, including its origins. Plus, two child psychologists weigh in about whether or not it's okay for kids to use the phrase "big back" and what you can do about it if you hear your child saying it, or learn they are being called that on social media or at school.

What Does ‘Big Back’ Mean?

According to Urban Dictionary, "big back" refers to a person who eats a lot of food or overeats. It can also refer to the size of someone's back, particularly a larger one that has developed from eating a lot of food. In other words, it's a way to call someone "overweight" or "fat."

In many cases, it's said in a joking manner and not necessarily meant to be offensive or rude. Like a lot of phrases, the meaning of "big back" depends heavily on context and the conversation in which it's used. But many would argue that joking that someone's overweight—whether they are or not—is not very funny.

Where Did the Term ‘Big Back’ Come From?

Children and teens might think the phrase "big back" came from the viral song "Big Back (The Original Parody)" from thecincomedy, aka Clarence Lomax III. That song made its rounds on TikTok and Instagram over the last year or so. But that's actually not the case.

Like most slang words, "big back" is thought to have roots in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and Black queer culture. It's nearly impossible to identify the exact moment in which the phrase came into existence; however, it is thought that the radio personality Charlamagne Tha God made it go mainstream after commenting on TikTok creator ReesaTeesa's multi-part video series, "Who TF Did I Marry?", saying she had "big back behavior" in early 2024, per Vibe

Aside from being said and heard a lot more in recent years, the phrase "big back" was also prevalent in the 1990s and was used when referring to individuals with a big butt, as noted in the song “Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot in 1992, per the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. He doesn't use the term exactly in the song, but you get the picture.

Why ‘Big Back’ Can Be Harmful and Mean

Malte Mueller/Getty Images

These days, many children and teens use the term "big back" to describe themselves or their friends, whether they're heavier or not. But it can have a larger impact on kids who are considered larger.

"When a child is called something like 'big back,' it leaves a mark regardless of whether it was meant as a joke," says Dr. Cook. "Kids are especially malleable during this time and are deeply influenced by what’s projected onto them by others, so even when something like 'big back' is said as a joke, it can still plant a seed of insecurity even in a child who may appear thin or confident on the outside."

Additionally, from a neurological standpoint, the parts of the brain responsible for social nuance, impulse control and intent don’t fully mature until the mid-twenties, making it harder for kids to accurately distinguish teasing from harm, according to Dr. Cook.

It’s also important to recognize that the child saying it is being impacted, too.

"When kids get comfortable putting others down, even playfully, they train their brain to scan for flaws and negativity in themselves as well as in others," she tells Parade

What Parents Should Do if Their Child Is Targeted With the Name ‘Big Back'

It's important for a parent to take swift action if their child is targeted with the name "big back."

"Terms like 'big back' already carry a negative connotation and an element of shame, and shame teaches kids to watch themselves more closely," Dr. Cook explains. "Language that targets appearance trains children to self-monitor, increasing anxiety and self-consciousness. Also, over time, teasing erodes emotional safety, and when words start to feel personal, kids may pull back socially, lose confidence or stop feeling safe being themselves."

For starters, you can help your child by leading with values, according to Dr. Deborah Gilman, a licensed psychologist and child specialist. For example, you can say something along the lines of “In our family, we don’t make jokes about people’s bodies."

"Parents can emphasize body neutrality and respect and model how to talk about food and bodies without moral language," she says. "For example, parents can talk about how there's no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' foods, and there's no place to assign worth based on size."

In the case that at-home conversations aren't helping, Dr. Cook recommends getting a mental health professional involved, especially if the language is persistent, escalating or becoming central to how your child relates to others, despite consistent guidance at home.

"Professional support is appropriate if you notice shifts in your child’s mood or behavior, such as increased irritability, withdrawal, rigid thinking, preoccupation with bodies or food, or a pattern of needing to put others down to feel okay," she explains. "If a child seems stuck in shame-based thinking, either toward themselves or others, or if body-focused language is showing up alongside anxiety, low self-esteem or disordered eating behaviors, getting support sooner rather than later can help interrupt patterns before they become harder to change."

How Parents Should Respond if Their Child Uses the Term ‘Big Back'

If your own child is using the phrase 'big back," then you'll want to sit them down and have a conversation. To be clear, this isn't to serve as punishment, but more so to understand where they heard it and why they feel the need to use it.

"Kids often repeat language without fully understanding it, and reacting harshly can accidentally give the word more power than it deserves," Dr. Cook states. "Ask whether they meant it as a joke or whether they were trying to get a reaction. If the word was said to them, then ask how it felt to hear it, and then invite them to flip the perspective. How would it feel if someone said it to them, even jokingly? These questions help kids slow down, think through the impact of their words, and start considering how language lands on someone else."

"It's one thing if a child says it on occasion, whether with their friends or to test out social trends; however, if it becomes frequent, especially if it's directed at the child themselves, then that warrants closer attention," says Dr. Gilman. "Self-directed body criticism is often an early signal of shame or comparison."

Cult Classic ‘Fight Club’ Is Now Streaming on Hulu

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 12:32pm

It’s officially March, which means two things: the seasonal depression is packing up, and you’re about to break the first rule. According to Hulu's latest drop schedule, David Fincher's Fight Club officially arrived on Sunday, March 1.

The 1999 psychological thriller stars Brad Pitt as the charismatic, unhinged Tyler Durden, alongside Edward Norton as a burnt-out office worker spiraling through insomnia and existential dread. Helena Bonham Carter rounds out the trio as Marla Singer, the wildcard who throws everything into chaos. Based on Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel and adapted for the screen by Jim Uhls, the film follows two disillusioned men who channel their frustrations into a secret underground boxing ring — one that quickly evolves into something far more dangerous.

— Cinema Connoisseur (@MovieEndorser) February 25, 2026

When Fight Club first hit theaters on October 15, 1999, it wasn’t exactly a box office juggernaut. The film earned about $37 million domestically against a reported $63 million budget. Critics were divided at the time. But over the years, it transformed into something else entirely: a cult phenomenon that never really left the cultural conversation.

Today, the film holds an 80% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a massive 96% audience score — a gap that says a lot about how it aged.

And then there’s the quote: “The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.” In 2007, Premiere magazine ranked it “the 27th greatest movie line of all time,” and pop culture has been gleefully breaking that rule ever since, from Supernatural to Family Guy to Scrubs, where it became a never-ending Mad Libs template that’s been quoted, memed and recycled for more than two decades.

The timing of Hulu’s addition couldn’t be better. The film is in the middle of a full-blown renaissance — Fincher recently oversaw a 4K Ultra HD remaster, and Fight Club is heading back to theaters for a one-night-only nationwide event on April 22 before dropping on 4K Steelbook and digital on May 12.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy Update: Expert Makes Bold Call to Action as Case Hits 1 Month

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 12:10pm

Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing one month after the abduction from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and a forensic science expert recently made a bold call to action.

On Friday, Feb. 27, forensic scientist Peter Valentin appeared on Fox News' Crime and Justice podcast with Donna Rotunno.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Valentin, chair of the forensic science department at the University of New Haven's Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, weighed in on the case of Nancy, 84.

"What I would suggest is that you go into that house with the best people in each discipline in forensics," Valentin said. "Go into that house and scrutinize that house, looking for the trace evidence that must exist, or hopefully still exists."

He explained, "Because if people went into that home, and we believe they did, right? To take her from that house, there must be evidence of their presence in that home. Where is it? What is that evidence? We need to find it."

Additionally, Valentin said that a key piece of evidence leading to a break in Nancy's case is "not going be the obvious DNA profile somewhere."

"It is not going to be the obvious latent fingerprint. It's probably some of the things that we've probably not used as much, right? The hair, the fibers, the other kinds of trace evidence," he detailed. "But we've got to start cobbling together all the forensic evidence we have at our disposal to move this case forward, because otherwise it might not move forward."

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) launched its search for Nancy on Feb. 1 after the 84-year-old was last seen in her Tucson residence on Jan. 31. Investigators have since released photos and video from surveillance footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera showing a potential masked suspect.

Meanwhile, the Guthrie family has sent multiple video messages to the potential captor(s) after receiving several alleged ransom notes. Savannah most recently offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to Nancy’s return.

Those with any information about Nancy’s missing case are advised to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

‘Married With Children’ Star Katey Sagal, 72, Is Utterly Stunning Almost 30 Years After the Show Ended

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 11:44am

Katey Sagal skyrocketed to fame as Peg Bundy on the comedy Married... With Children, but the actress is an absolute stunner in real life.

Sagal, 72, played Peg, the lazy, self-indulgent wife of Al Bundy, and sported a giant hairdo and stiletto heels on Married... With Children, which ran from 1987 to 1997 on FOX. The series caused plenty of controversy over the years, thanks to its brash humor. Of course, those protests only caused its ratings to go through the roof, and the series, which co-starred Christina Applegate and David Faustino as the couple's children, became a veritable hit.

After the series concluded, Sagal starred on 8 Simple Rules and Sons of Anarchy, and continued a successful career as a voice-over actress on Futurama. This week, the beauty attended Netflix's ONE PIECE: Into The Grand Line fan event at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles, and dazzled the crowds. Sagal ditched Peg Bundy's bouffant hairdo and has become more beautiful over the years.

Her Son, Jackson White, is a Rising Star

Sagal's son, Tell Me Lies star Jackson White, appeared on the Wednesday, Feb. 18 episode of Call Her Daddy, and shared that he saw a great example for how to get sober in his mother, who struggled with the same alcoholism issues that he did. Now, both mother and son are sober.

"She got her s--- together a long time ago, and I got to see that you can get your s--- together. So I had a really great example in my mom," White shared.

What's Next for Katey Sagal?

Sagal has an exciting job prospect coming up, and it involves working with the beloved Jane Lynch.

Deadline reported in late January that Sagal will headline an NBCsitcom pilot loosely inspired by two real-life best friends and therapists. The show centers on Ginger (played by Sagal) and Jill (played by Lynch), who have always been a team of opposites that work best together. As they sort their past and look toward their future, they’ll discover that despite it all, they wouldn’t change a thing, the synopsis reads. Lynch and Sagal will also serve as executive producers for the show.

What Vaccines Do You Need in March If You're Over 50?

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 11:25am

As the days grow longer, it's natural to start to get excited for a light at the end of the cold/flu/RSV/COVID-19 tunnel. Hope springs eternal as the calendar flips to March. And we probably don't think of it as a time of year when vaccination matters much. Doctors stress that vaccine necessity doesn't go out the window just because the weather is warmer.

"Even if flu season is waning, which in my part of the country it isn’t yet, it is still very important for people over 50 years of age to stay up-to-date on vaccinations because we know that the risk of serious illness...increases with age," explains Dr. Beth Oller, MD, a family physician.

In fact, infections like viruses (including the flu!) can happen year-round, putting people over 50 at a particularly high risk not only of a bad case of something nasty but also of longer-term side effects.

"If... these infections are acquired after 50 years old, the risk for complications such as pneumonia, hospitalizations, long COVID, heart problems and shingles-related nerve pain may be present in those not vaccinated," warns Dr. Luis Marcos, MD, an infectious disease expert with Stony Brook Medicine.

In other words, unfortunately, age is more than a number to your immune system.

"As we age, our immune systems age with us," explains Dr. Linda Yancey, MD, an infectious disease specialist at Memorial Hermann Health System. "Illnesses that would have been trivial when we were younger can be much more severe for older adults. Vaccines serve as an immune booster, helping protect us against hospitalizations and deaths."

Give yourself a shot at doing the things you actually want to do this spring by making sure you have these vaccines this March if you're over 50.

What Vaccines Do You Need in March if You’re Over 50?

"Influenza vaccine, COVID vaccine, shingles, pneumococcal, RSV and TdaP," Dr. Marcos shares.

Dr. Yancey added that some individuals over 50 may need the MMR, chickenpox and zoster vaccines. The good news is that these vaccines are widely accessible at various locations near you.

"Most of these vaccines are available through primary care providers, pharmacies, local health departments and some specialty clinics," she reports. "Many pharmacies can give multiple vaccines in one visit."

Below, doctors shared a bit more about why you should roll up your sleeves for these vaccines in March if you're over 50 (and don't worry, we've taken into account that you might have gotten some of these vaccines already this season)!

1. Influenza vaccine

Yes, you can still get your flu shot in March. In fact, you should if you haven't already.

"This protects against circulating flu strains that can cause severe respiratory illness," shares Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, the chief medical advisor for Sleepopolis. "It is recommended annually for everyone [over 6 months], but especially adults over 50 and those with chronic conditions. High-dose or adjuvanted versions are typically preferred for adults 65 and older because they have a stronger immune response."

FYI, flu is still at its peak circulation in some areas in March and not fun all year round.

2. COVID-19

As we learned during the pandemic, COVID-19 can spread, even as the weather warms. That hasn't changed, but our access to vaccines has.

"Updated COVID vaccines protect against severe disease, hospitalization and death from current circulating variants," Dr. Dasgupta says. "Adults over 50 are eligible for updated boosters depending on prior vaccination timing. Those with chronic disease, obesity, or immune compromise benefit most from staying current."

3. RSV

The RSV vaccine is a single dose that should provide lifelong protection. "It protects against respiratory syncytial virus, which can cause serious lower respiratory infections in older adults, particularly those with heart or lung disease," Dr. Dasgupta states.

The CDC recommends that adults 50–74 years old who are at risk of severe RSV get this vaccine. This recommendation may apply to you if you have a chronic condition like COPD. Plus, the CDC guidelines state that everyone over the age of 75 should get this vaccine.

4. Tdap or Td booster

If it's been a decade since you got this vaccination, it's time to re-up your immunity.

"This helps protect against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis," Dr. Dasgupta notes. "Adults should make sure they get a tetanus booster every 10 years. If you have never received Tdap as an adult, you should get it to help with pertussis coverage."

5. Zoster

This one protects against shingles, and Dr. Yancey shares that everyone needs to get this vaccine, whether they had chickenpox as a child or not. She says the zoster vaccine can:

  • Prevent a shingles outbreak
  • Reduce the time and size of an outbreak
  • Prevent the permanent pain that sometimes follows an episode of shingles

The CDC reports that the zoster vaccine is over 90% effective at preventing shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia (chronic pain in the nerve area of a prior rash) in healthy adults aged 50 years and up.

6. Pneumococcal

The CDC recommends this vaccine for all adults aged 50 and older.

"The pneumonia vaccine prevents only one certain kind of pneumonia, but it is a deadly one," Dr. Yancey says. "Prior to our modern vaccines, pneumonia used to be the leading cause of death in people over 50."

2 Other Vaccines To Make Sure You’re up to Date On1. MMR

Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide lifelong immunity. That said, adults at low risk for measles, mumps and rubella who were born after 1957 have unknown vaccination status and should get this vaccine.

Additionally, some high-risk groups may benefit from another dose of the MMR vaccine, including healthcare personnel and people living in areas with ongoing outbreaks. You can learn your immunity status against these illnesses with a simple blood test.

"With the numerous measles outbreaks currently going on in the U.S., it is important to be protected against this," Dr. Yancey stresses. "Mumps and rubella can be spread to children who have much more severe illness."

She adds that if a pregnant woman gets rubella, the fetus is at risk for issues, including having abnormalities after birth.

2. Varicella

Chickenpox was once a rite of passage in childhood. However, some of us were lucky not to experience it.

"For the lucky few who did not have chicken pox as a child, it is a very good idea to get the vaccine," Dr. Yancey says. "Chicken pox in adulthood can be very serious, much more so than in children. It is also a prolonged disease. No one wants to be itchy and miserable for three weeks."

You may have gotten this vaccine previously. However, a blood test can let you know if you still have strong immunity.

Where To Find Information on Vaccines

There's a lot of information about vaccines out there right now, but not all of it is accurate.

"For accurate information on vaccines, I always recommend going to your family physician," Dr. Oller shares. "There has been a lot of misinformation circulating recently, so go to the people who do this every day."

Dr. Yancey says that "The American College of Physicians has some excellent vaccine resources."

Other Tips To Keep Your Immune System Healthy This March

Vaccines are a great way to give your immune system a fighting chance at warding off illnesses, especially of the most severe variety. So if you haven't gotten your seasonal vaccines or aren't up to date on some of the others mentioned above, this is a great time to get them.

And other practical tips will help you layer on protection, too. "Besides the recommended vaccines, people should always look for a healthy diet, exercise and low stress," Dr. Marcos advises. "Spring is a good reset point for blood pressure, cholesterol and cancer screenings. Schedule an appointment with your primary care physician."

While you're in your calendar, proactively get ahead for this coming fall, which will be here before you know it.

"Be sure you pencil in [flu , RSV and COVID-19 vaccines] in for early fall of next year," Dr. Oller states.

‘SNL’ Roasts Jill Zarin After Super Bowl Backlash Costs Her ‘Golden Life’ Role

Sun, 03/01/2026 - 11:05am

Jill Zarin of The Real Housewives of New York City is still catching flak after her Bad BunnySuper Bowl review cost her a role on The Golden Life, with Saturday Night Live mocking her again in the Feb. 28 “Tourette’s” sketch.

Springboarding from the recent BAFTA Film Awards, which sparked controversy when Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson unintentionally uttered a racial slur, SNL leaned into a hilarious faux PSA defending those with "involuntary verbal tics" due to Tourette's syndrome.

Cue the line of celebrities like Mel Gibson, Ye, Armie Hammer, J.K. Rowling, and yes ... Zarin made the cut, as they all defend past offensive remarks, chalking them up to having Tourette's.

Referring to herself as an "OG" Real Housewife of New York, SNL player Sarah Sherman took on Zarin, saying, "But what you didn't know is that I suffer from severe, long-winded, monologue-style Tourettes. A condition that affects nine out of 10 people on Long Island."

Zarin watched Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show and immediately posted a video to Instagram, complaining that: "It was the worst halftime show ever. I just don’t think it was appropriate to have it in Spanish, and, quite frankly … grabbing his [groin] area … I think it was totally inappropriate. You’ve got all these young kids watching the Super Bowl, and he doesn’t have to be grabbing himself every five seconds because he’s so insecure. Seriously.”

She added, “I don’t speak Spanish. I would’ve liked to have known the words he was saying,” she continued. “To me, it looked like a political statement because there were literally no white people in the entire thing. I’m not taking a side, one way or the other … I think it was an ICE thing. I think that the NFL sold out, and it’s very sad.”

As backlash mounted in the comments section, Zarin removed the post, but the damage was already done. Fans expressed anger, vowing not to watch Zarin's upcoming RHONY-esque reunion show, The Golden Life. Days later, Zarin was fired from the show.
