Amaya Espinal has a brand new smile.

The Love Island USA winner, known to fans as "Amaya Papaya," revealed her smile makeover in a new interview with People, sharing that she recently had veneers placed by New York City-based cosmetic dentist Dr. Nick Mavro.

Espinal said the change has already had a major effect on the way she feels.

"It was a small difference, but it made a big difference in boosting my confidence level. I haven't stopped smiling ever since," Espinal told the outlet.

The reality star explained that her new career influenced her decision to update her smile. After winning Love IslandUSA Season 7 and becoming one of the show's breakout personalities, Espinal said she wanted a smile that felt more symmetrical and helped her feel more confident while speaking in public.

According to People, Espinal worked with Mavro after being introduced by a mutual friend. She was already familiar with his work before her time on Love Island and said she "always knew" she would want to work with him.

Mavro told the outlet that he had a specific vision for Espinal's smile. He said he wanted to lengthen her teeth, give her upper lip more support, and make the color slightly brighter.

The dentist also explained that cosmetic dentistry is not about creating the same look for every patient.

"Smile design is never about a 'perfect smile,'" he said. "It's about the right smile for each patient, based on their features and natural movement."

A Confidence Boost After 'Love Island'

Espinal first became a fan favorite on Love Island USA Season 7, where viewers embraced her humor, vulnerability and loved her memorable "Amaya Papaya" nickname. She later won the season with Bryan Arenales.

Since then, Espinal and Arenales have broken up and Espinal has continued building a career outside the villa. She has appeared at media events and opened up about her life after the show.

Mavro said he has noticed that Espinal's confidence in how she carries herself has increased after the smile makeover.

"Seeing Amaya's initial reaction in the chair was one thing, but what I've loved most is watching her on the red carpet and at other media-related events with her new smile, speaking and smiling more freely than before," he said.

For Espinal, the procedure itself was easier than she expected.

"The process was way easier than expected and completely painless," she told People. "Dr. Mavro made the experience really comfortable for me and took his time to explain the process to me so I had a clear idea of what was going to happen."

The reveal comes as Espinal continues to embrace her post-Love Island chapter, and she sounds more than happy with the results.

"I haven't stopped smiling ever since," she said.

Brian Wilson’s 1977 release caught listeners’ attention for its country-leaning sound, but The Beach Boys co-founder reportedly didn’t fully agree with that interpretation.

“Honkin’ Down the Highway” was a song from The Beach Boys Love You album. The release stood out for its quirky, stripped-down sound, marking a distinct departure from the band’s earlier polished production style.

The song stood out among others on the LP, including such as "Johnny Carson," "The Night Was So Young," "I Bet He's Nice," and "Ding Dang." The album was cited as one of Wilson's favorites in 2002, as seen in a YouTube video clip.

In the caption of an Instagram post celebrating the song on Brian Wilson’s official page, the singer and songwriter reflected on his thoughts about the track. An image of the single’s cover, along with a social media caption, provided additional details about the song.

"Today in 1977, the Beach Boys released 'Honkin’ Down the Highway,' taken from their The Beach Boys Love You album. Brian said the song was influenced by country music 'to a certain degree. I remember when I wrote that I was thinking 'truckin’ down the highway,' just some kind of a country western kind of idea.' The actual song itself wasn’t that country, though.”

The post continued, "Al Jardine sang lead, with Brian playing grand pianos, clavinet, ARP String Ensemble, and Minimoog bass, with Dennis [Wilson] on drums and Billy Hinsche on electric guitars. Brian, Dennis, and Billy also sang the backing vocals. The B-side was “Solar System.” On this one, Brian sang lead and backing vocals and played all instruments, including grand and tack pianos, Hammond organ, ARP String Ensemble, Minimoog, snare drum, and tubular bells. Al, Mike [Love], and Dennis also contributed backing vocals."

In an interview with Goldmine Magazine, Jardine discussed the day The Beach Boys recorded that song.

"I was up in Big Sur, Brian just called me and said, 'Come on down. I've got a song for you to sing, and can you be here?' And I said, 'Of course.' It was just real simple."

Jardine concluded, "And we all had to do our background parts anyway. But he had me in mind to tackle the lead, let's put it that way. Just like 'Help Me, Rhonda,' he had my voice in his head. He could take our individual voices and turn them into instruments."

In a 2000 interview with Caroline Now! Brian Wilson called the Love You album "one of the best we have ever made. My favorites are 'I Wanna Pick You Up' and 'Ding Dang.'"

He added, "It's funny because now people are beginning to see that album as a classic. It was quite revolutionary in its use of synthesizers."

The Beach Boys Love You is included in the band's latest compilation box set, We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years.

For many music fans, “Doctor My Eyes” remains one of the most recognizable soft rock songs of the 1970s. 

The track launched the recording career of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and became an enduring radio favorite. What many listeners may not know is that the song was inspired by a real eye condition that temporarily left Browne barely able to see while he was writing it.

Released in 1972 on Browne’s self-titled debut album, “Doctor My Eyes” reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the biggest hit from the record. Years later, the song found chart success again through a cover version by The Jackson 5, making it a rare case of a song becoming a hit twice in different markets.

Before becoming one of the most respected songwriters in rock music, Jackson Browne built a reputation writing songs for other artists. Born in Germany to American parents and raised in Los Angeles, he became active in the Southern California folk scene as a teenager. He later worked in New York as a staff writer for Elektra Records and contributed songs to artists including Nico.

After returning to Los Angeles, Browne began working on material for what would become his debut album. One of those songs was “Doctor My Eyes.”

In a later reflection on the song’s creation, Browne revealed that the initial idea came during a period when he was suffering from a severe eye infection.

“During the writing process, my eyes became infected and badly encrusted. I could barely see. I didn’t know what was wrong with them,” Browne said, per WSJ.

He sought medical treatment and eventually recovered, but the experience sparked the central image that would drive the song.

“My eye trouble was the initial inspiration for the song’s lyrics. But as I wrote them, the eye issue became a metaphor for lost innocence and for having seen too much.”

Although the title suggests a straightforward visit to a doctor, Browne said the song evolved into something much deeper than that.

“This song is not literally about going to the doctor to get my eyes fixed.”

Instead, the lyrics explore the emotional impact of witnessing life’s hardships and losing youthful idealism.

At first listen, “Doctor My Eyes” sounds upbeat thanks to its lively piano riff and energetic rhythm. However, the lyrics tell a different story.

The song follows a narrator who has experienced years of fear, disappointment and emotional struggle. Rather than celebrating life, he questions whether seeing too much of the world has left him unable to feel.

The song also featured an impressive lineup of musicians. Jesse Ed Davis provided the electric guitar work and memorable solo, while Russ Kunkel played percussion and drums. Leland Sklar handled bass duties, and David Crosby and Graham Nash contributed backing vocals.

When “Doctor My Eyes” was released as a single in 1972, it exceeded expectations. The song climbed from No. 80 to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Browne’s first major hit. It also reached No. 4 in Canada and helped establish his debut album as a commercial success.

Despite the song’s growing popularity, Browne admitted he was caught off guard by hearing it on the radio.

“One day after the single reached the top 10, I returned to L.A. from the road. The girl I was seeing picked me up at the airport.”

“As we drove up La Brea Ave., she said, ‘Watch this.’ She turned on the radio and ‘Doctor My Eyes’ was playing.”

“It was so surreal to hear one of my songs that way.”

The song’s story did not end there. In 1972, The Jackson 5 recorded their own version for the album Lookin’ Through the Windows. While it did not chart in the United States, the cover became a Top 10 hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at No. 9.

That achievement gave “Doctor My Eyes” a second wave of chart success and introduced the song to a new audience beyond Browne’s original recording.

More than five decades after its release, “Doctor My Eyes” remains one of Jackson Browne’s signature songs. What began as a response to a frightening eye condition evolved into a thoughtful reflection on experience and emotional resilience.

Owain Rhys Davies, an actor best known for his role on Twin Peaks, has died at the age of 44.

The news was announced by his brother, Rhodri Davies, in an emotional Instagram post.

“It is with profound sadness that my father and I share the news that my brother, Owain, has passed away,” he wrote. “This news will come as a great shock to many."

Rhodri further pointed out that the family has a lot of questions as it pertains the actor's cause of death.

 “While there are still questions that remain unanswered regarding the circumstances of his death, our understanding at this stage is that Owain passed suddenly, naturally, and peacefully," he continued.

Davies played Agent Wilson in three episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return, also having roles in the Netflix series The OA as well as films Alice Through the Looking Glass and A Serial Killer’s Guide to Life.

The official Twin Peaks Instagram page also released a statement following news of his death.

"Thank you for being a part of the world of Twin Peaks, Agent Wilson," they wrote.

The Welsh National Theatre also paid tribute, writing, "Owain was a remarkable talent whose work enriched Welsh theatre and screen, and whose contribution to the performing arts will be remembered by audiences, colleagues, and friends alike. His passion, creativity, and dedication to his craft made a lasting impact on the cultural life of Wales. The Welsh performing arts community is poorer for his loss, and we can only imagine the many more stories he would have gone on to tell. Cysga'n dawel, Owain."

Many fans also paid tribute.

"Such a tragic loss. Owain brought so much depth to his roles. Remembering his talent and the impact he made on many," one person wrote.

"Very sad news. Rest in peace to Owain Rhys Davies, gone too soon. Prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time," another person commented.

On this day 60 years ago, one of the most iconic songs of the 1960s became a chart-topper.

Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night" climbed to the No. 1 spot on the UK Singles chart, becoming the beloved singer and actor's second number one in the United Kingdom. His first UK No. 1 single, "Three Coins in the Fountain," hit the top spot in 1954.

A month after peaking at No. 1 in the UK, "Strangers in the Night" reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and was Sinatra's first No. 1 pop hit in 11 years. The track's critical success presented Sinatra's music to a new generation.

In 1967, the song won three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year; Best Vocal Performance, Male; and Best Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist or Instrumentalist.

Despite it becoming one of his most famous tracks to date, Sinatra famously detested "Strangers in the Night." According to Far Out, the musician wouldn't be too pleased when fans would request the song, and he would introduce the track at live performances by saying, "Here’s a song that I cannot stand.”

In the 2006 biography, Sinatra: The Life, authors Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan wrote that the hitmaker loathed the single to the point of calling it a "piece of shit."

However much Sinatra hated it, the song is much-loved around the world and even became the inspiration behind television and film. Fan-favorite cartoon series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was inspired by the legendary song. TV executive and producer Fred Silverman commissioned the show for CBS, and he credited "Strangers in the Night" for cementing the Great Dane's name.

"I'm listening to music, and as were landing, Frank Sinatra comes on, and I hear him say 'Scooby-do-be-do'. Its at that point I said, 'That's it, well take the dog—well call it Scooby-Doo," he explained to Archive of American Television. "We’ll move him up front and it’ll be 'the dog show'."

While not as heavy with cancellations as NBC, CBS still brought some beloved shows to an end throughout the 2025–2026 TV season.

There were only four cancellations compared to NBC’s 10, and most of them were primetime shows. In fact, one of the cancellations was more of an ending, after it was renewed for an eighth and final season during the previous TV year.

Fans of The Neighborhood knew that the eighth season would be the last. The writers had time to craft an ending, even though it wasn’t their decision to bring the series to an close. When deciding to give the series a final season, the president of CBS Entertainment at the time, Amy Reisenbach, said, “the show's loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

‘The Late Show’ Among Shocking CBS Cancellations

The other cancellations came as a shock, especially one in particular. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert came to an end, with the announcement made before the new season had even really started. It was met with mixed reactions, with some praising CBS due to Stephen Colbert’s attacks on President Donald Trumpand others angry as it appeared that freedom of speech was being violated.

CBS argued that it was a cost-saving measure, as late-night TV has been on the decline in recent years. Not only did the network decide not to renew Colbert’s contract, but it also decided not to fill the slot with another late-night series.

As for the primetime cancellations, they weren’t as surprising as The Late Show. Both DMV and Watson were canceled after their first and second seasons, respectively.

Many Watson fans had already feared the worst when the series moved from the Monday night slot in the fall to the Sunday slot in the midseason. While the first season had been pretty steady on Sundays, the second season moved to the final slot of the night, which has historically been a struggle for TV shows as audiences don’t tune in live as much anymore.

As for DMV, the freshman comedy likely didn’t pull in the viewership. However, CBS has yet to confirm the full reasons for the cancellations, but that’s usually the case when it comes to the end of the primetime main season.

The United States has updated its travel advisory for citizens traveling to Mexico. Reissued on May 29, the advisory includes new guidance for Americans heading to the country for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Regions in the country are designated on a risk scale from Level 1, “exercise normal precautions,” to Level 4, “do not travel.” While the country overall remains at a Level 2 status, with the U.S. Department of State urging travelers to "exercise increased caution due to terrorism, crime, and kidnapping," six Mexican states are labeled as Level 4 risks.

According to the State Department, safety threats are widely varied throughout the U.S.’s southern neighbor. The advisory warns against all travel to Level 4 states Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas. The six states all pose a risk of crime and terrorism, while Guerrero, Colima, and Tamaulipas are additionally flagged for threats of kidnapping. “U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents have been victims of kidnapping,” the advisory reads.

Jalisco, home to popular tourist destinations Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, is among the Level 3 states. The advisory urges citizens to reconsider travel to the state due to “terrorism, crime, and kidnapping threats.” It notes that some violence related to terrorist groups, cartels, gangs, and criminal organizations has affected travel hotspots. “In Guadalajara, battles between criminal groups have happened in tourist areas,” the advisory reads.

The majority of states and cities remain at Level 2, including major tourist destinations such as Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, and Nayarit. At this level, the State Department tells citizens to “exercise increased caution” but does not recommend skipping travel entirely. 

Only two states are labeled as Level 1, “exercise normal precaution,” areas: Yucatan and Campeche. 

What World Cup Travelers Should Know

The latest advisory includes the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico’s guide for visitors attending the FIFA World Cup in June and July. Over 5.5 million visitors are expected to descend on the country’s three host cities for the tournament, which takes place every four years. According to the guide, all transportation, lodging, and tickets should be booked well in advance of arrival in Mexico. “Expect big crowds, heavy traffic, and longer travel times,” it reads.

Those driving to World Cup matches are advised to “do your research to avoid dangerous pitfalls that Americans have faced on Mexican roads” and to carefully study the specific warnings for every state on their route.

The embassy instructs soccer fans to remain vigilant upon arrival, writing, “Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Beware of pickpockets and other scam artists!” 

“Do not hail taxis on the street. Use trusted ride-sharing apps or book taxis through your hotel or at an authorized taxi stand,” the guide adds.

Kicking off on June 11, the highly anticipated World Cup will take place in 16 cities across Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Born Laurence Tureaud, Mr. T adopted his name while working as a bodyguard for high-profile clients after serving in the US Army's Military Police Corps, according to HELLO!.

"So when I was 18 years old, when I was old enough to vote, I said I was old enough to be called a man. I self-ordained myself Mr. T, so the first word out of everybody's mouth is 'Mr," he previously told Playboy.

While he may look like the ultimate tough guy, Mr. T has no problem opening up about his battle with cancer. In 1995, a biopsy led to a diagnosis of a rare type of T-cell lymphoma.

"Can you imagine that?!," Mr. T told Coping with Cancer magazine. "Cancer with my name on it, personalized cancer."

Despite the struggle, Mr. T said the journey through cancer has made him even more of a fighter.

"I have grown into a cancer fighter. I am a soldier, a veteran at that," Mr. T shared. "Cancer wants to fight me again. I am not afraid this time. Fighting cancer for the third time, can I still believe in God? Yes, I can, and stronger than before."

Mexican influencerPaola Márquez has died. She was 30.

Márquez, a lifestyle content creator who had built a large following across social media, was found dead inside her home in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, on May 30, according to People and local outlet El Sol de San Luis.

Her father, Hércules Márquez Balderas, confirmed the news in a Facebook post, writing, "One day we will be together again, rest in peace my princess!"

According to People, citing El Sol de San Luis and the State Attorney General's Office, Márquez was found unresponsive inside her apartment. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible suicide.

Márquez was originally from Huehuetlán, San Luis Potosí, according to multiple Spanish-language reports. She had built a large online audience across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, where she posted lifestyle content, travel photos, fashion posts, humor, viral trends, and personal reflections.

People reported that Márquez had more than 2 million followers across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Other outlets reported that she had roughly 1.7 million followers on TikTok, where much of her audience followed her for her candid videos and daily-life content.

Paola Márquez’s Final Posts Drew Attention From Fans

In the days before her death, several of Márquez's final social media posts drew renewed attention from fans. According to Prensa Libre, one Instagram post shared on May 28 showed Márquez in an elevator and included the message, "Why would you stay in a place where you have more to lose than to gain?"

People reported that Márquez appeared to have last posted on social media on May 29, one day before she was found dead. In the TikTok video, she said, "I manifested, but I think I manifested backwards, because the little I had is slipping away."

Infobae also reported that another video, recorded before her death, showed Márquez speaking openly about emotional exhaustion and wanting to distance herself from some people. In the clip, she reportedly said she could not sleep and felt tired of being happy one day and "completely broken" the next.

Still, authorities have not publicly linked any of Márquez's social media posts to the circumstances of her death. Infobae reported that, as of its article, officials had not released a confirmed cause of death or forensic results.

After news of her death spread, fans began leaving tributes in the comments of her final post.

The NYPD may have just accidentally revealed a key logistic about Taylor Swiftand Travis Kelce's highly anticipated wedding.

In a budget hearing on Monday where police commissioner Jessica Tisch was making her case for overtime funding to the NYPD, she laid out the upcoming calendar of events that would require extra security — and couldn't help but mention the "Love Story" singer's wedding.

"July Fourth, the Sail 250, which is like the president's military parade in New York City, NBA Finals, World Cup...potentially Taylor Swift's wedding," she said.

To which she quickly followed up, "just kidding."

While the high-profile couple has not confirmed any wedding plans, the slip comes weeks after Page Six reported that the singer and the NFL player would tie the knot in the Big Apple on July 3.

Page Six also reported this week that, as invitations have gone out, Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh Sperry have been left off the guest list.

The apparent snub is particularly notable as Teller exclusively chatted about the wedding with Parade in November.

Eve Plumb revealed that no one cared about The Brady Bunch when it was being filmed in the early 1970s—including studio executives.

During a May 2026 interview with Houston Public Media, the former ABCsitcom star recalled that the show was filmed at a fast pace, with two episodes completed per week at one point, to get the Brady cast off the Paramount studio lot.

“They did because we were the ones that nobody cared about,” Plumb, 68, explained in the interview. "You know, Mod Squad was on the lot and Odd Couple. So that's where the money was going, and so they literally tried …we did it. We made two episodes a week. It lasted about 10 minutes because it was just too hard.“

Plumb noted that The Brady Bunch scripts were 20 to 25 pages and that it took “about an hour” to shoot one page of dialogue for the single-camera sitcom.

“We did become known as the ‘one-take Bradys.’ … It doesn't allow for art or exploration, but gets it in the can,” she added.

Plumb, who played middle child Jan Brady on The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974, also shared that her TV father, Robert Reed, took issue with the show’s unrealistic shooting dynamic, which often included the whole family in one scene.

In a Q&A at a bookstore in New York City to promote her memoir, Happiness Included, Plumb explained, “At one point, yes, we were called the one-shot Brady's because they were always pressuring us to go faster, faster, faster to save money. Because we were the poor stepchild on the lot. Which is surprising because we had the biggest stage of a lot. We were just shooting so quickly, and that's one of the things that Robert Reed was always fighting against, was saying, you know, they would just line us up. ‘Line them up and shoot them.’ And he's like, ‘People don't stand around their living rooms like this.’"

“They tried to make us do an episode in two and a half days instead of five to save money,” Plumb added. “So, you know, we were always the ones that were having to pay.”

While The Brady Bunch remains a TV classic—it has never been off the air in 50 years—  Plumb told The Morning Show that the cast members “never felt like big stars” when the show originally aired.

"It never really hit the big ratings,” she said. “It was never really well thought of in the critiques. Everybody sort of looked down on it as fluff and not serious fare."

Nearly three decades after it was recorded, a long-shelved Michael Jackson song has finally become a Billboard Hot 100 hit.

For the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending in June 6, Jackson's "Chicago" debuts at No. 30, marking the first time the track has ever appeared on the chart. The achievement gives the King of Pop his 47th career Hot 100 entry and adds another unexpected chapter to the renewed commercial success sparked by the blockbuster Michael biopic.

The song also made its debut on this week's Most Streamed Songs chart, debuting at No. 21.

What makes the chart debut particularly remarkable is the song's unusual history. Although fans are only now embracing "Chicago" as a hit, Jackson actually recorded the track in 1999 during sessions for what would eventually become his 2001 album Invincible.

Originally titled "She Was Loving Me," the song was written by Cory Rooney, who later recalled to biographer Damien Shields that Jackson loved the track immediately after hearing a rough demo.

According to Rooney, Jackson recorded the song at New York City's Hit Factory during sessions that stretched across several weeks in the spring of 1999. The singer reportedly became so attached to the track that he meticulously worked through multiple vocal takes and personally assembled the final vocal performance.

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the recording, "She Was Loving Me" never made the final track list for Invincible. Instead, the song remained unheard by the public for more than a decade.

Following Jackson's death in 2009, Rooney revisited the recording, and the track underwent several revisions before producer Timbaland reworked it for Jackson's 2014 posthumous album Xscape. By then, the song had been renamed "Chicago," after its memorable opening lyric: "I met her on my way to Chicago."

Even with the push surrounding Xscape, the song never reached the Billboard Hot 100 during its original release cycle. Its chart success has come 12 years later, fueled by a massive resurgence in interest surrounding Jackson's catalog.

The renewed attention has been driven largely by Michael, the hit biopic chronicling Jackson's life and career. Since the film's release, multiple Jackson classics have surged across streaming platforms and charts worldwide, with songs like "Billie Jean," "Human Nature," "Beat It" and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" all returning to the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

Now, one of the most surprising beneficiaries of that renewed interest is a song that fans never even heard during Jackson's lifetime.

For a track recorded in 1999, shelved for years, released posthumously in 2014 and overlooked by the Hot 100 at the time, finally reaching the chart in 2026 is an extraordinarily rare feat.

Nearly 27 years after Jackson first stepped into the studio to record it, "Chicago" has finally become a bona fide Billboard Hot 100 hit.

There’s absolutely no doubt that we miss Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia. The four Golden Girls characters captured our hearts, whether it was for their straight-forwardness, their scatterbrained adorableness, or their fun antics together.

Death on the Lanaiby Rachel Ekstrom Courage is the second novel in the Golden Girls Mystery series, officially licensed novels that capture the heart and soul of the show we fell in love with. This time, they’re heading out after receiving a mysterious invitation, which leads to a murder to solve.

Once again, Ekstrom Courage captures the essence of each of the four main characters. We get to see how they will always choose each other, and they stick together through thick and thin. They’re able to think on the spot, even if it does mean embarrassing each other — poor, Sophia! — and they use each other’s talents and skills to their advantage.

Yes, even Rose’s scatterbrained moments can turn into something necessary. She’s able to tell engaging stories, giving the women time to enact another plan, and throughout the novel, I found myself needing to do a binge-watch of The Golden Girlsonce again.

The mystery itself is relatively easy to guess, and it did mean a small knock of a star. Usually, there’s some sort of red herring in murder mysteries, but not in this case. Ekstrom Courage does try, but we know that the women are smart. They’re able to read between the lines, and we can easily believe them when they know the red herring is completely false, so it doesn’t quite have the weight and excitement that it should do.

That being said, there are some beautiful and bittersweet reveals at the end. Not only do we get to know a little more about Blanche through the memories of their host, but we also get details about other guests that help to shape the whole reason for the invitation in the first place. There is also a small twist in the events of the murder that I did appreciate.

There’s even a spark of romance at the end, and not for the woman that you would expect. However, the final moments made me grin, as once again, it proves that these women will always stick together. They may get on each other’s nerves at times, but they are best friends at heart, and there’s no reason to ever doubt that.

Another thing that I needed to get used to was the switch of the host’s name. Sometimes, Blanche will call him by the name that is his own, and then other times, everyone will refer to him by his artist name. I don’t want to give away the artist name, as it spoils some of the fun at the start of the novel, as the women are figuring out who sent the invite to the house and how they all end up at the party rather than the woman it was intended for.

Make sure you read all the way to the end. There’s a type of pie mentioned at the start of the novel as Blanche and the murdered host share, and that recipe is at the back. I know what I’m making this weekend!

Overall, Death on the Lanai is a cozy murder mystery that is going to warm your heart. It captures everything you could possibly need from the world of The Golden Girls, and my only wish is that we could see it play out on the screen. Of course, that can never happen, but I’ll stick to enjoying Ekstrom Courage’s stories. (Yes, Death By Cheesecake is the first novel in the series, and also a must-read.) 

Death on the Lanai is now available on shelves and via audiobook, which is more than worth listening to while reading for a more immersive experience.

Comedian and legendary Saturday Night Live actor Dana Carvey turns 71 today!

Born on June 2, 1955, in Missoula, Montana, the actor was raised in San Carlos, California. His father (Bud Carvey) taught business law, and his mother (Billie Dahl) was a school teacher. Unlike his parents, Carvey (very obviously) didn’t pursue a career in education. Instead, he majored in Communication Arts at San Francisco State.

The would-be SNL star, who always had a penchant for impressions, started his stand-up career performing in Bay Area comedy clubs during the late 1970s. He moved to Los Angeles in the early ‘80s and landed a TV role on the sitcomOne of the Boys, starring alongside Mickey Rooney and Nathan Lane.

While his first real role was an uncredited part in the movie Halloween II, in 1984 Carvey made his first major big-screen debut as a mime/waiter in Rob Reiner’s iconic film, This Is Spinal Tap. Two years later, Carvey joined the cast of SNL, launching him into super-stardom.

The 71-year-old’s SNL career spanned almost a decade, from 1986 to 1993. Carvey created legendary characters (such as The Church Lady, The Grumpy Old Man, Hans, and Massive Head-Wound Harry) and famously parodied top political figures and Hollywood celebrities, including George H.W. Bush, Ross Perot, and Johnny Carson.  

Known for creating catchy phrases, Carvey made in-real-life memes before they were a thing. Most notably, The Church Lady’s “Well, isn’t that special”, George H.W. Bush’s “Not gonna do it”, and Derek Stevens’ “Choppin’ Broccoli” song.

Even though he was already a beloved SNL cast member, in 1989 his career skyrocketed when Carvey appeared as Garth Algar alongside Mike Myers’ Wayne Campbell. The pair parlayed the characters into a franchise, releasing Wayne’s World in 1992 and Wayne’s World 2 in 1993. 

Carvey appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1992, speaking about the success of Wayne’s World: “It’s all over the world, who knew? I mean, I think it’s kind of frightening myself.” 

After leaving SNL, Carvey went on to star in Clean Slate, Trapped in Paradise, and The Master of Disguise. He also voiced characters in the animated films Hotel Transylvania 2 and The Secret Lives of Pets 2. He released a Netflix stand-up special, Dana Carvey: Straight White Male, 60, in 2016 and currently hosts “The Fly on the Wall” podcast with fellow SNL alum David Spade.

After almost two decades of on-again, off-again production, the long-awaited Escape from New York remake is officially a go.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the brand-new remake of the beloved '80s action film will be directed by Zack Snyder, the mainstream filmmaker behind such crowd-pleasing hits as 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead and several DCEU films.

Originally directed by Halloween icon John Carpenter, Escape from New York followed Kurt Russell's eye patch-clad ex-commando Snake Plissken in a grim dystopian future where New York has been transformed into a maximum security prison.

After the President of the United States (Donald Pleasence) crash-lands in the middle of Manhattan, Russell's hardened criminal is forced to sneak onto the island and rescue the commander-in-chief from the various gangs ruling New York.

Among the most popular entries in either Carpenter or Russell's filmography, Escape from New York earned warm reviews at the time of its release, sparking a short-lived franchise that ended after one ill-fated sequel.

Over the years, multiple attempts have been made to launch a remake of the film, all of which have ultimately failed to get off the ground. In the past, several prominent directors were slated to oversee the project, including Len Wiseman, Brett Ratner, Breck Eisner, Robert Rodriguez, Leigh Whannell and the filmmaking duo known as Radio Silence.

As of yet, it's not year clear how faithful the new film will be to the original, although multiple outlets have reported Snyder sees the project as a "reimagining" of Escape from New York rather than an outright remake.

Interestingly, the director also made his intent clear to use more practical effects reminiscent of the original, contrasting significantly from the CGI-laden presentation of his more recent superhero films.

The upcoming movie will be produced by Picture Company partnersAndrew Rona and Alex Heinemanas part of their deal with StudioCanal. Similarly, Snyder will also produce the project, along with his Stone Quarry production company partners Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller.
