It's been just over 56 years since Creedence Clearwater Revivalreleased one of their fan-favorite, feel-good classics.

CCR's 1970 hit "Up Around the Bend" is one of the most beloved songs from the band's catalog, and even all these years later, it still makes the perfect soundtrack for any summer road trip.

Written and performed by CCR frontman John Fogerty, "Up Around the Bend" paints a picture of an idyllic highway ride on an adventure to a better place, and it's high-energy sound and recognizable guitar riff make it an enduring go-to for summertime travel.

"Up Around the Bend" in April 1970 as a double A-side single with "Run Through The Jungle." It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 later the same month, before reaching its peak position at No. 4 in June of that year. The song was later featured on their fifth studio album, Cosmo's Factory, which also features other notable CCR tracks, like "Travelin' Band," "Who'll Stop the Rain," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," and "Lookin' Out My Back Door."

Fogerty and CCR are responsible for some of the biggest classic rock anthems, some of which have even been considered among the greatest songs of all time. Rolling Stone included some CCR tracks on its ranking of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time," like "Proud Mary" (ranked at No. 152) and "Fortunate Son" (No. 227). Rolling Stone also named Creedence Clearwater Revival on its "100 Greatest Artists" lists, placing Fogerty and the band at No. 82.

The group has also had 16 songs make the Billboard Hot 100, nine of which reached the Top 10. Ironically, even some of CCR's biggest songs never hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, with several tracks only ever reaching No. 2, like "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising" and "Green River," to name a few.

Marcello Hernández joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2022 during Season 48 and has since become a beloved breakout star. Although SNL’s latest Season 51 has come to a close, Hernández is still hard at work.

The comedian recently landed a spot hosting ESPN’s biggest night, the 2026 ESPY Awards. Returning to New York City for the first time in over 25 years, the ESPYS will take place on July 15, celebrating athletes and the memorable sports performances in the past year.

"I started doing comedy 10 years ago, in Cleveland, Ohio, and I would take the train 12 hours to New York to sell comedy tickets on the street in Greenwich Village in exchange for stage time," Hernández said in a statement to ESPN. "It is an honor, and frankly feels crazy to be hosting the ESPYS this year in New York. I'm sure the energy is going to be great."

Craig Lazarus, ESPN’s vice president and executive producer of the ESPYS, called Hernández “one of the most electric young comedians today.”

“His genuine enthusiasm for sports and his ties to New York City make him a natural fit to host this year's ESPYS," Lazarus said to ESPN. “We are excited to partner with him to celebrate the best moments in sports and look forward to the fresh take he'll bring to the show."

In January, Hernández released his debut comedy special, Marcello Hernández: American Boy. Available exclusively on Netflix, Hernández tells stories from his Latin roots and his mom’s life lessons. When the show released, Hernández said in an Instagram post that stand-up comedy has given him “everything.”

“I started comedy at 18 in Cleveland, Ohio, at dive bars, small clubs, and poetry slam rooms,” Hernández said. “10 years later, Stand Up has given me everything. If you’ve ever been to a show, put me on a show, given me advice, or supported me in any way, THANK YOU.”

The ESPYS will air live on July 15, 2026, on ABC and ESPN+.

“’25 or 6 to 4′ is a song about writing a song,” Chicago’s trombonist, James Pankow, told Backstage With Joe Chambers in 2018, via American Songwriter. “Robert was laying on the floor of his house in the Hollywood Hills looking over the city of Los Angeles just before dawn. He had been up all night.” 

The “Robert” Pankow mentioned is, of course, Robert Lamm, keyboardist and singer for the band. And he indeed confirmed Pankow’s explanation. The song’s title refers to the wee hours of the morning, specifically 3:35 a.m. (25 minutes to 4) or 3:34 a.m. (26 minutes to 4), when Lamm was wrestling with writer’s block.

“I was living with a bunch of hippies up above Sunset Strip,” he said on The Chris Isaak Hour, via Songfacts. “One of the advantages of this particular house was that it was in the Hollywood Hills and I could look out over the city late at night. I wanted to try to describe the process of writing the song that I was writing. So, 'Waiting for the break of day / Searching for something to say / Flashing lights against the sky’ — there was a neon sign across the city. That song came from the fact that it was 25 or 6 to 4 a.m. in the morning when I looked at my watch. I was looking for a line to finish the chorus.”

Chicago famously calls themselves the “rock and roll band with horns,” with their distinct sound a blend of jazz, rock, brass, prog rock, and pop. Their oeuvre includes a broad mix of ballads, soft rock, R&B, and soulful Motown-inspired hits. So when Lamm said he brought the bones of a song to his band who then transformed it into a masterpiece, well, that’s exactly what happened. 

“There was definitely a lot of raw material,” he said. “I thought it was a song when I wrote the words down, and I brought the charts to rehearsal, but it wasn't really a song until they all played it.”

The result was an instant rock classic, with Lamm on the organ and verse vocals, Peter Cetera handling the soaring lead vocals and brass, Terry Kath manning the guitar and delivering a killer solo, as well as James Pankow on the trombone, Lee Loughnane on the trumpet, and Walter Parazaider on the sax and flute.

According to AS and Billboard, the symphonic jam became the band’s signature closing track for live shows. 

“Beyond the blaring brass was an unforgettable performance from Kath,” Billboard said, “who unleashed crunching hard-rock hell on this tune, plus an urgent, high-flying vocal from Cetera. A full-band effort from one of the greatest big-band rock acts of any era.” 

Since its release as a single in June 1970, the anthem has become a pop culture staple, too, appearing in everything from movies, series, and commercials to video games. AS also noted that it’s a popular choice for school bands.

Despite not hitting No. 1, the track became Chicago’s first Hot 100Top 5 single (No. 4) and became the band’s most enduring hit, with Billboard even naming the orchestral feat the band’s best ever. 

“There’s a reason why Chicago has chosen ‘25 or 6 to 4’ as its set closer for virtually every concert this century, including its dazzling Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in [2016]: It’s the band’s greatest song, a banner encapsulation of the rock, soul and horns sound that has brought the sprawling outfit immeasurable success over the last 50 years.”

For years, Cheryl Burke has faced comments from fans comparing her current appearance to the version of herself they watched on Dancing With the Stars in the early 2000s. Now, she's setting the record straight.

In a revealing new essay, the former DWTS pro opened up about body image, sobriety and self-acceptance, while delivering a blunt message to those who say they miss the "old" her: unfollow.

"I joined the show in 2006 thinking it was going to be one season and then I’d go back to my life as a competitive dancer. But I won back-to-back seasons, and people started paying attention," Burke recalled in a deeply personal essay published in Glamour. "I was not prepared for what it meant to become tabloid fodder."

She went on to reveal that she "developed body dysmorphia," something she has worked through for years in therapy.

"I was drinking every single night. I was eating Del Taco at midnight to soak up the alcohol," Burke shared. "I was the alcoholic Cheryl back then, the party girl barely surviving some of those live shows. Every photo from that era—the ones where people now say I looked so good—I was basically hungover in. That is the version they are telling me I should return to."

Now, at 42 years old, the former professional dancer is sober, divorced, and happy with the person in the mirror.

Internet trolls have been especially harsh to Burke in recent years, with many physicians sharing viral videos pointing out changes in her appearance.

"People don’t realize what happens when a professional dancer, who has been dancing seven days a week her entire life, stops," Burke continued. "Muscle mass naturally gets lost, and your body changes."

Fifty-nine years ago today, on June 3, 1967, an edited version of a nearly seven-minute album cut entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time.

"Light My Fire" by The Doors began a climb that reached No. 1 by late July, and it turned a young Los Angeles band into one of rock's defining acts.

Though Jim Morrison became the face of the song, he was not its main writer. Guitarist Robby Krieger brought in the music as one of his first compositions for the group, drawing on the melody of "Hey Joe" and the lyrics of the Rolling Stones' "Play with Fire." Morrison wrote the second verse, keyboardist Ray Manzarek added the Bach-inspired organ intro and drummer John Densmore pushed for a Latin rhythm. The writing credit went to all four members.

The full version anchored the band's self-titled debut album, released that January, and ran nearly seven minutes, far too long for AM radio. Producer Paul Rothchild trimmed it to 2:52 by cutting most of the instrumental solos. The shortened single debuted on June 3, hit No. 1 on July 29, 1967 and stayed there for three weeks, the first chart-topper for the band's label, Elektra Records.

Then Came the 'Ed Sullivan' Standoff

That fall, the band booked a spot on The Ed Sullivan Show. Before the Sept. 17, 1967 broadcast, a producer asked them to change the word "higher," worried it read as a drug reference on a family program. The group agreed in rehearsal, then Morrison sang the original word live on air. By the band's account, a producer told them afterward they would "never do this show again." They never did.

The ban did little damage. "Light My Fire" remains one of the defining rock songs of the 1960s, and the story behind those few defiant seconds still follows the band decades later.

The new menu addition follows other recent specialty flavors, Berry Sweet Bitz made with Nutella and Apple Cinnamon Bitz.

Michael Jackson further cemented himself in history, becoming the first and only artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 in every decade since the 1970s.

The King of Pop's song "Chicago" debuted at No. 30, having originally been released on his posthumous album Xscape in 2014. It became his 52nd Hot 100 hit as a solo artist, with his first being in 1972 when "Got to Be There" made it on the list. Jackson's last Hot 100 hit was Drake's "Don't Matter to Me," featuring Jackson, which debuted at No. 9 in July 2018.

And it came back into popularity due to the Michael biopic as well as a resurgence on TikTok. According to Billboard, "Chicago" has drawn 388 million streams to date. And with that, "Chicago" is his second-highest-charting song on the latest Hot 100, with "Billie Jean" at No. 19. He also has "Human Nature" at No. 31 and "Don't Stop ‘Til You Get Enough" at No. 43.

Through the six decades, Jackson had 11 hits in the 1970s, followed by 20 in the 1980s and 12 in the 1990s. Then in the 2000s, he had four, followed by four in the 2010s, and now one in the 2020s.

Michael Jackson's Biopic 'Michael' Sets Digital Release Date

Jackson's biopic took over the domestic and worldwide box office, becoming Lionsgate’s 3rd-highest-grossing film ever as well as becoming the all-time 3rd-highest-grossing biopic. Plus, according to Forbes, it has earned nearly $850 million globally.

And soon, it will be available for fans to watch from the comfort of their homes.

Lionsgate has announced that the biopic will arrive on digital platforms on June 9. It will be available to purchase on platforms including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video, and YouTube Movies & TV as well as available to rent.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T is exactly what Aretha Franklin got in 1967. 

Fifty-nine years ago today, the Queen of Soul took her cover to No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for four weeks. It also topped Billboard's U.S. Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart for eight weeks, giving Franklin the respect she deserved. 

As iconic as it sounds coming from the songstress, "Respect" actually started as an Otis Redding song. He released it in 1965, where it peaked at No. 35 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. 

While it was a decent hit at the time, it was nowhere near what Franklin would eventually turn it into.

She heard something in the song that nobody else had. Franklin changed the gender, sat down with her sisters Carolyn and Erma to rework the lyrics and turned it into the feminist anthem the world sings along to today. 

And while you may think you know every word, you might want to think again. Over the years, fans have debated whether Franklin sings "take out TCP" in the famous spelling sequence. 

Franklin herself cleared it up in an interview with the LA Times. "It's 'R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care of T-C-B,' as in taking care of business," she explained. While it's slightly redundant, it's a whole lot better than TCP.

Either way, the classic record is still just as appreciated today. Rolling Stone recently moved "Respect" from No. 5 all the way to No. 1 on their "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

The publication made their reasoning pretty clear. "Otis Redding wrote 'Respect' and recorded it for the Stax/Volt label in 1965. But Franklin took possession of the song for all time with her definitive cover, cut at Atlantic’s New York studio on Valentine’s Day 1967. 'Respect' was her first Number One hit and the single that established her as the Queen of Soul.” 

The song also earned her two Grammy Awards in 1968 for Best Rhythm & Blues Recording and Best Rhythm & Blues Solo Vocal Performance, Female — and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1987.

Franklin went on to release hit after hit, including "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "Chain of Fools," "Think" and many more. 

Over the course of her career, she sold more than 75 million records worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling female R&B artists of all time. Following the success of the recent event, Maryland Deathfest announced the first wave of artists and bands participating in the 2027 lineup.

Dubbed the largest extreme metal festival in North America, it will not only feature a star-studded lineup of metal heavyweights but also musicians and artists from international scenes including Japan, Sweden, Spain, Ireland and more.

In an Instagram update, the list of upcoming performers includes 23 acts, including some of the genre’s cult-favorite, most celebrated and career-defining artists who are set to take the stage for high-octane shows.

Following the announcement of the first wave of artists, organizers promised to reveal 70 additional bands, with more to be announced in the coming months.

Maryland Deathfest 2026 Highlights

The announcement came after Maryland Deathfest wrapped up its 2026 schedule, which took place from May 21 to 24 in downtown Baltimore.

The four-day event was attended by an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 attendees per day.

For the pre-fest, the U.K. grindcore legends Napalm Death and Repulsion were the headliners.

The Thursday lineup was headlined by Solitude Aeturnus on the Power Plant Live stage, Bongzilla at the Nevermore Hall and the Finnish death metal band Torsofuck at the Baltimore Soundstage.

Old Man’s Child, The Crown, Oranssi Pazuzu and Lividity were Friday headliners, while Kreator, Sinister, 1914 and Rotten Sound were on Saturday.

Concluding the annual event, Sarcófago, Dying Fetus, Batushka and Cephalic Carnage served as headliners.

Death metal legends Destruction took to social media to express their gratitude for the overwhelming support and the “insane” crowd following the festival.

"Maryland Deathfest 2026 has come to an end. It was an amazing experience to be here once again… The crowd was insane. Till next time!” the post reads.

When it comes to late-night talk show hosts, Johnny Carson, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart are among the most revered and respected figures in television history. A new ranking from DraftKings has reignited debate among fans by naming a new king of late night.

With so much attention surrounding Stephen Colbert's exit from late night, comparisons are naturally being made as the legacy of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is cemented. Colbert will go down in talk show history as one of the smartest and most influential hosts of his generation, but the new rankings place a different late-night comedian at No. 1.

While many rankings place Johnny Carson at the top of the list, writer Andy Silva ranked David Letterman as the greatest late-night host of all time, writing:

After 31 years of marriage, Van Halen frontman SammyHagar has some relationship advice to share.

The rocker spoke to People about his relationship tips. 

"I really think that you need passion in the relationship," he said.

"We don't sleep in separate bedrooms, man. And when that's over, when you're not really still physically and emotionally attracted to your partner, I think that's a dangerous thing,” Hagar said. “You have to figure out how to keep that going. That's my opinion.”

The musician sees passion as a necessity in a relationship. He and his wife, KariKarteHagar, have seen a long and successful marriage with this advice. They also share two daughters.

Hagar met Karte in the 1990s at a shared friend's birthday party. He was previously married to BetsyBarardi in 1968, but they divorced in 1994.

"I met her and we saw each other again and again and after about the third time we just stayed together," the “I Can't Drive 55” singer shared. The pair married in 1995.

At 78 years old, Hagar believes couples should be equals.  

"I'll be serious about this because, you know, the first thing you say is, 'happy wife, happy life,' but one thing is that we're equals," he said. "We'll get into it like all couples, but we're always equal — there's no her under my thumb, or me under her thumb."

Ultimately, Hagar believes the secret to a long marriage is seeing your partner as an equal without losing any passion. 

“Having a great physical and emotional relationship is so important," he shared.

“The Red Rocker” has another long-term relationship that is important to him. He has been friends with Rick Springfield for over 50 years.

Hagar is going on his "Best of All Worlds" tour this summer, and Springfield will join him for eight shows in June.

Mama always told us the book is better than the movie. But sometimes, Mama’s wrong. Such is the case with Winston Groom’s 1986 novel, Forrest Gump. Though critically and artistically appreciated, the book tanked commercially, failing to connect with the masses and selling a measly 30,000 copies. It actually wasn’t until Robert Zemeckis and screen legend Tom Hanks adapted it into a 1994 film that the story found its global audience.

Back in the ’80s, Groom was reportedly inspired by an anecdotal story his father shared about a “slow-witted” kid who just so happened to also be a musical prodigy. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Vietnam veteran, and former Washington Star reporter, the author blended historical fiction with fragments of his father’s lore, writing the first chapter of Forrest Gump in a single evening. With three novels and one Pulitzer Prize-nominated nonfiction read already in his repertoire, Groom hoped the comedy would land with the public. Alas, it misfired.

That all changed in the summer of 1994, when Forrest Gump, the ParamountPictures film, sprinted into theaters. Starring Hanks, GarySinise, Robin Wright, and Sally Field, the sentimental dramedy was an instant hit, nabbing six Academy Awards including Best Picture and grossing nearly $700 million worldwide. Groom’s novel suddenly found new life, becoming a best seller almost a decade after its release. But here’s the thing: Readers were shocked to learn the book was a cynical, wild, and bizarrely raunchy read.

Forrest, according to Groom, is a 6-foot-5, 240-pound man who curses freely and sees the glass as half empty. Alongside watershed moments and historical milestones, he also becomes a professional wrestler in a diaper, travels to space with an orangutan named Sue, and gets captured by a clan of cannibals. His military service is far more brutal and relationship with Jenny much bleaker. 

Zemeckis, whose oeuvre includesBack to the Future, Contact, Cast Away, and The Polar Express, took a lighter approach to the material, softening the edges of Groom’s satire to create a feel-good fable. Fans of the helmer know Zemeckis is a master at blending technological wizardry with deeply resonant emotion to deliver universally crowd-pleasing productions. And that’s exactly what we got with his Forrest, Forrest Gump: one of the greatest films of all time.

Vasana Montgomery is breaking her silence following her shocking removal from the cast of Love Island USA season 8.

Montgomery was revealed as one of the new Islanders on Thursday, May 28, but her time with the franchise was cut short just two days later after videos surfaced online showing her using a racial slur.

The 25-year-old was removed from the cast before filming began, meaning she does not appear in any episodes of the hit dating series.

She addressed the controversy for the first time via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, June 3.

“I want to address a couple videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced,” Montgomery wrote. “In those videos, I used a racial slur. I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words.”

“I take full responsibility for what I said and understand why it has hurt and upset people,” she continued. “Since then, I have grown a lot as a person and taken the time to educate myself, listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have.”

“That growth does not erase my mistake, and 1am not asking anyone to excuse it," she added. "I believe people should be held accountable for their actions, but I also believe in growth, learning, and becoming better. To anyone I hurt or disappointed, I am truly sorry.”

The clips in question were found on Montgomery's private social media accounts, meaning producers likely weren't aware during the casting process.

According to TMZ, one clip allegedly showed Montgomery say a racial slur "while rapping along to a song." In another, she reportedly "yells it out while her friend is playing an arcade game.”

Love Island USA season 7 faced similar issues when Yulissa Escobar exited shortly after the season began after clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast circulated online.

Cierra Ortega was removed later on in the season, also due to a resurfaced social media post that showed her using a racial slur. Both women issued apologies for their behavior.

For rock fans everywhere, Aerosmith has been one of the biggest groups in rock history ever since they debuted on the scene in the 1970s. While they've had plenty of hit songs over the years, "Walk This Way," which was a track on the group's 1975 album, Toys in the Attic, is one of their most enduring songs and a fan-favorite.

The song was the second single on the album following "Sweet Emotion," and it was one of the last songs that the band completed for the record. Surprisingly, Aerosmith found a spark of inspiration for "Walk This Way" from an unexpected place: Young Frankenstein.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in 2014, the band recalled how everything came together to bring "Walk This Way" to life. Joe Perry remembered how they were around halfway through the record and "were stuck" working on the rest of the songs at New York's Record Plant when they decided to take a break.

Steven Tyler, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and producer Jack Douglas went to watch Mel Brooks' film Young Frankenstein in theaters in Times Square to decompress. When everyone returned, it was clear that they'd enjoyed the film, as they were chatting about different lines and moments in the movie.

Perry, who stayed behind, said, "They were laughing about Marty Feldman greeting Gene Wilder at the door of the castle and telling him to follow him. 'Walk this way,' he says, limping, giving his stick to Wilder so he can walk that way, too."

Then came the moment of realization: "While all this was going on, Jack stopped and said, 'Hey, "walk this way" might be a great title for the song.' We agreed. But we still needed lyrics." And the rest was history. While the movie didn't play into the band's lyrics, which were written soon after, it remains the inspiration for the iconic title of one of Aerosmith's best songs.

With the risqué lyrics, the fast pace and intense instrumentation, and Tyler's fast and gritty singing, "Walk This Way" feels like a surefire hit when you listen to it. But that wasn't the case when the song was first released.

"Walk This Way" first came out in 1975 and didn't make much of an impact, but it finally started getting recognition when it was reissued the next year. It peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, and years later, a new version from the hip hop group Run-D.M.C., in collaboration with Aerosmith, would reach No. 4 on the same chart.
