In 1988, David Bowie formed a band called Tin Machine that has now been celebrated as one of the notable supergroups in music history.

The quartet, composed of the original lineup of Reeves Gabrels on lead guitar, Tony Sales on bass, Hunt Sales on drums and the iconic musician as frontman, was named by Radio X among the greatest “classic rock” supergroups of all time.

The publication ranked 15 of the best bands they believe exemplified the supergroup concept and left a lasting influence on the rock music landscape.

Along with Cream, The Traveling Wilburys, Wings, The Power Station, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Humble Pie, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Journey, Asia, The Firm and Plastic Ono Band, Tin Machine made it to No. 6.

Described as a “band-band,” it was more of a collaborative project between the members rather than being labeled as Bowie’s backing group or a star-driven project.

"It was just inspired guesswork that there'd be chemistry between these four people," the late British singer told Q magazine, as cited by Louder, referring to how Tin Machine started. "I just knew that I enjoyed working with each and every one of them, and that was the priority for me, having had some fairly unenjoyable experiences in the '80s working with others."

In 1989, Tin Machine released their self-titled debut studio album, which featured a slew of explosive tracks, including the lead single “Under the God,” a hard rock song praised for its attack on neo-Nazism despite not being a commercial hit.

Other notable songs include “Heaven's in Here,” “Prisoner of Love,” “I Can't Read,” which was part of the soundtrack for the 1997 film The Ice Storm, and the band’s self-titled anthem “Tin Machine.”

Following the success of their first album, which peaked at No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 28 on the US Billboard 200, the band failed to sustain its momentum after releasing their live album, Oy Vey, Baby, in 1992.

It was also at this time that Tin Machine disbanded due to internal issues, which included problems with their record label and Sales' spiraling drug addiction.

Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams, 25, is facing backlash on June 7 after an old photo surfaced appearing to show a teenaged Williams with dozens of words and symbols drawn on his clothes and skin, most notably including what appears to be a swastika and an upside-down cross on his forehead.

Parade was unable to reach the actor's reps for comment, but TMZ reports that sources close to Hudson said he was not aware that those symbols had been drawn on him, and that they "do not and have never reflected Hudson's beliefs, values, or character." See the photo for yourself, here.

Regardless, many X users were appalled by the old photo. "Drunk teens scribbling swastikas for laughs and he ‘had no idea’? bro was posing in the pic... excuses getting creative," wrote one person, while another added, "Teen stupidity at a drunk campout is one thing, but posing for pics with it clearly visible + other past drama makes the 'had no idea' excuse pretty weak. He should just own it and apologize properly." A third wrote, "he’s disgusting and these excuses don’t work no more."

Still, some fans defended the star. "This is such a f--king non story. Your actions as a silly teenager don’t define you. Hudson doesn’t owe anyone any kind of explanation or apologies," said one devoted follower, while another insisted, "He was like 15 in that photo lmao some of you need to get a life."

Many others noted that Williams wasn't the only person in the photos with distasteful words and images on him, as others also had swastikas, swears, "AIDS," and Hitler mustaches drawn on their faces. "Was he walking around the party with his eyes closed?" said a commenter in reference to the additional images.

Who is Hudson Williams? Inside his rise to fame

The Canadian actor rose to fame in late 2025 with his breakout role as Shane Hollander in the hockey romance drama Heated Rivalry. Before landing the role, he studied acting at Langara College, worked as a restaurant server in Vancouver, and appeared in smaller projects while writing and directing short films.

The HBO Max series became an unexpected viral hit, earning praise for Williams' performance and on-screen chemistry with his co-star and pal Connor Storrie, which turned the previously little-known actor into an A-lister seemingly overnight.

The show's success had already led to major media appearances, fashion campaigns, award recognition, and other high-profile film and television roles; he currently had 8 TV and film roles in production, including the highly-anticipated Crave Original mystery thriller Yaga.

Anna Faris has reprised her role as Cindy Campbell in Scary Movie 6. In an interview with Dexerto, the actress revealed she wanted to update the character as a “MAGA” type.

“I was always pushing for Cindy to be classic MAGA rabbit hole,” she said. “The kind of person that you saw outside of the Walmart during quarantine, that was raising some kind of crazy ass fuss.”

Faris first portrayed the character in the original Scary Movie film in 2000. Campbell was a clueless high schooler trying to survive the horror/comedy film. Now, 26 years later, the actress thought the character might be a Melania Trump fan.

“There was a moment where I’m getting just wasted, just so drunk—I’m in my truck, of course, and I look into the rearview mirror and I say, ‘Be best, Cindy Campbell. Be best.’ That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there,” Faris shared.

The line references the "Be Best" campaign launched by FLOTUS in 2018. It was meant to oppose cyberbullying but received backlash at the time because of President Donald Trump’s harsh social media and online posts.

While it was cut from the final film, Faris has no regrets.

“You know, what are you gonna do? You gonna be mad at Cindy?” she said. “I’m in a movie that is truly the most offensive movie ever made, and I’m the lead of it. And I participate in offensive ideas. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me.”

Scary Movie 6 is now in theaters, and fans can expect the return of many original cast members in the most recent installment. The film stars Anna Faris (Cindy Campbell), Regina Hall (Brenda Meeks), Marlon Wayans (Shorty Meeks), and Shawn Wayans (Ray Wilkins). It was directed by Michael Tiddes.

The parents-to-be looked besotted as they made their entrance at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall tonight for the 79th Annual Tony Awards. Aubrey wore a sleek black-and-white dress while Christopher wore a sharp black velvet suit. Their appearance comes two months after Aubrey's surprise pregnancy announcement.

Christopher is nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his raw portrayal of Biff Loman in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. The play, which also stars Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf, is up for nine nods at the annual ceremony.

The pair met when they co-starred in 2020 indie film Black Bear and later worked together in the 2023 off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. They kept their romance under wraps, but it's believed they started dating in 2025. Many were unaware of their relationship prior to their exciting baby news.

"He cares, but he also doesn't care; it's the best recipe for me for a scene partner," the Parks and Recreation actress told The New York Times. "It's fun, and it's also good, and it's also safe. I like to just throw things out the window, also, and laugh and mess around and not take it so seriously. 

"It's a hard combo to come by," she added. "We're both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange."

While Aubrey has mostly laughed off pregnancy, making jokes about the news. She did open up to Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes about motherhood. “I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” Aubrey said on the SmartLess podcast. “It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”

Aubrey's happy baby news comes more than a year after the death of her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, who passed away at the age of 47 on January 3, 2025. The pair wed in 2021 before quietly separating in 2024, after numerous collaborations, including 2014's Life After Beth and 2017's The Little Hours.

Author Freida McFadden is known and beloved for her prolific bibliography (she has written over 30 psychological thrillers since her debut in 2013) as well as being the "queen of the twist." Her newest novel, The Divorce, was published on May 26th, 2026. As of the first week of June, the book is an instant number one on the New York Times bestseller list for combined print and e-fiction.

McFadden (a pen name for the author whose real name is Sara Cohen) is no stranger to bestseller lists and widespread acclaim. Her 2022 novel, The Housemaid, was a "monster hit" and international bestseller. As of January 2026, it has spent 141 weeks on The New York Times trade paperback best-seller list, as well as 112 weeks on its Combined Print and E-Book Fiction list.

The Divorce is the newest standalone novel in McFadden's extensive library.

In 1970, Deep Purple released a song that defied virtually every rule of commercial radio.

Lasting nearly 11 minutes, "Child in Time" featured no conventional chorus, extended instrumental passages and one of the most dramatic vocal performances in rock history.

Yet despite its length and complexity, the song became a defining moment for the band and remains one of hard rock's most celebrated power anthems. The track appeared on Deep Purple's landmark album Deep Purple in Rock, widely regarded as one of the foundational records of hard rock and heavy metal.

At the time, the band's classic Mark II lineup, featuring Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Paice, was helping redefine the boundaries of rock music.

"Child in Time" emerged from that creative peak.

The song's lyrics are widely interpreted as an anti-war statement, reflecting the tensions and anxieties of the Cold War era.

"We were in the middle of the Cold War at that time," Gillan told Top 2000 A Go Go. "Things were terrifying. A lot of songs were written along that base, but you never tried to be too literal with a song, you never tried to say, 'It's gonna blow me up and kill me.' You try and be poetic if you can."

Rather than delivering its message through straightforward storytelling, the composition builds gradually from a haunting organ introduction into a series of explosive musical crescendos. At the center of the song is Gillan's extraordinary vocal performance.

His soaring screams became one of the defining moments of early heavy rock and remain among the most impressive vocal showcases ever captured on record. The performance helped establish Gillan as one of the premier singers of his generation.

The song also gave Blackmore an opportunity to deliver one of the most celebrated guitar solos in Deep Purple's catalog, while Lord's organ work provided the dramatic foundation that drives the entire composition.

Although "Child in Time" was never a major single, it quickly became a centerpiece of Deep Purple's live shows and one of the songs most closely associated with the band. For many fans, it represents the perfect blend of hard rock power, progressive ambition and emotional intensity.

However, the song has not been performed live since 2002.

"[Gillan] drew a line in the sand: 'I'm not going to sing that song anymore,'" Glover told Noise 11. "And that was a personal decision. And we have to abide by that because he’s our singer, and we respect that."

But, it's not because Gillan doesn't like the song, it's simply that difficult to sing.

"We wrote that song when we were 24, and when you're 24, you can do things a lot differently than you can when you're 74," Glover explained. "And as Ian got older, he tried to do it, but we didn't want to cheat and have the top harmony played by a sampler or a guitar or something like that."

Over the decades, the song has become a staple of classic rock radio, despite its unusual length. It has also appeared on countless lists of the greatest hard rock and heavy metal songs ever recorded. Its enduring popularity demonstrates that listeners were willing to embrace ambitious music when it offered something truly memorable.

More than 50 years after its release, "Child in Time" remains one of Deep Purple's crowning achievements, a timeless power anthem that transformed nearly 11 minutes of music into one of rock's most unforgettable experiences.

It could be said that Sonny & Cher’s 1965 hit “I Got You Babe” defied the odds. The timeless duet came along at a time when Motown and the British Invasion were at their height of success. Despite all that, the charismatic celebrity pairing, with a contrasting dynamic, cut through the noise with a simple-sounding song that became a massive global phenomenon. 

Written solely by the late Sonny, whose full name is Sonny Bono, “I Got You Babe” was inspired by Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe,” according to American Songwriter. The track features a swaying waltz beat with shimmering pop elements, and the instrumental recording was performed by the highly respected session musicians known as The Wrecking Crew.

For the verses, Sonny & Cher deliver a call-and-response style song, singing about the challenges they face as a young couple going up against the skeptics. In the song, the beloved partners deliver a message of always having each other’s back while singing the catchy “I got you babe” lyrical hook. 

Overall, “I Got You Babe” remarkably captured the hippie culture movement of the time, even heavily influencing the fashion of the era as it defended men with long hair.  The tune sold over a million copies and, in August of 1965, reached No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it stayed for three weeks. The song also won over listeners internationally, going No. 1 in multiple countries, including the UK and Canada.

While the classic track has enjoyed an incredible legacy, even ranking at No. 6 on Ultimate Classic Rock’s list of ‘30 Greatest Duets of All Time” in 2024, it initially received pushback from Cher, who disliked it upon hearing Sonny present it to her for the first time.  

The story goes that Sonny came up with the song while in his garage plunking on a piano late at night. After writing some lyrics on a piece of cardboard, he woke up Cher, who had been asleep. 

“Sonny woke me up in the middle of the night to come in where the piano was, in the living room, and sing it,” she said in a previous interview, according to American Songwriter. “I didn’t like it and just said, ‘Okay. I’ll sing it, and then I’m going back to bed.’”

Eventually, Cher embraced the song following a key change, and “I Got You Babe” went on to become Sonny & Cher’s signature hit. “I Got You Babe” appears on the legendary acts' debut album, Look at Us.

Today co-host Savannah Guthrie just sent a hopeful update four months after her mom Nancy Guthrie's abduction.

On Sunday, June 7, Savannah took to her Instagram Stories to share a hopeful update with her followers.

"Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out," she wrote in white lettering overlain on religious artwork. "Bring her home 💛."

Most recently, Guthrie spoke out about her missing mom on Mother's Day. "Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie — we miss you with every breath," she began the May 10 Instagram tribute. "We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you."

The NBC morning show co-anchor continued, "We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available. Please keep praying."

Additionally, Guthrie included a montage of video clips featuring her mother.

In March, Savannah sat down for her first interview since Nancy's abduction. “Someone needs to do the right thing,” the emotional daughter told Hoda Kotb in a clip that aired on Today. “We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable.”

“And to think of what she went through,” Savannah added. “I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night. And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable. But those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face.”

Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on the evening of Jan. 31. Savannah has offered a $1 million reward and reportedly spent $500,000 on a private investigator, but no suspect has been named, as of writing.

In the meantime, investigators continue to pore through tips and process DNA evidence in hopes of finding the person or people responsible for Nancy's disappearance.

The 1988 pop-rock power ballad "The Living Years" by Mike and The Mechanics sounds like a love song, but it isn't one. It's a song about regret—the specific, irreversible kind that comes from losing someone before you said what needed to be said. It hit No. 1 in 1989 because almost everyone understood exactly what it meant.

"The Living Years" was written in the late 1980s by Mike Rutherford—bassist and guitarist for Genesis and founder of Mike and The Mechanics—and Scottish songwriter B.A. Robertson. Paul Carrack, the lead vocalist for Mike and The Mechanics, recorded the song.

Sharing the story behind the track with Songwriting, Rutherford explained, "B. A.’s father died about the same time as my father, and then B. A. had a son, so he’d never met his grandfather. So he had this idea of doing the song."

He also spoke about wanting to tap into the father-son relationship struggles of their generation, “We both came from an era where our parents had lived through two world wars, when young men wanted to be like their fathers—wear the same clothes, do the same things. But then there was a huge change, and our generation wanted to be anything but their fathers. It wasn’t our parents’ fault, there was just a big social change." He continued, “So we had the idea of writing a song about how you never really talk to your father, and you miss out on these things."

Rutherford later admitted one of his biggest regrets was that he had not been able to tell his dad how much he loved him while he was alive.

Together, the two brought the lyrics, the music, and their collective emotions together. "A couple of times I had to leave the room!" Rutherford said. "The eyes started welling up—it touched a nerve with both of us."

The song went on to resonate with and touch millions of fans the same way. Whether it's unresolved feelings with a loved one or the grief after a parent dies, "The Living Years" is a song with feelings every one of us understands eventually. Regret is part of life, as is the universal wish for just one more conversation.

It was released on December 27, 1988, as the second single from their album Living Years. Carrack's warm, earnest vocals, atop the voices of a children's choir, made every bit of difference on the final track, too.

It turned out that Carrack's own father died when he was just 11 years old, which made his performance all the more emotional. “I didn’t realise at the time that Paul Carrack’s father died when he was young," said Rutherford. "So, in a sense, the song had a resonance for him that, at the time, I didn’t really know."

After hitting No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 2 in the U.K., "The Living Years" single was nominated for four Grammy awards in 1990, including song and record of the year. Later, the legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach would declare, "The Living Years is one of the finest lyrics in the last 10 years."

Almost 40 years later, the soft rock song is still played on adult contemporary radio and it's currently included on lists like "The Best Rock Songs Of The '80s" and "The 30 Best Rock Songs About Fathers" on Ranker. To date, it has more than 180 million streams on Spotify. And the fan connection, too, is stronger than ever.

“People still come up to the street and stop me or send emails or letters saying that the song had a great connection with them,” Rutherford told PopMatters. “They said they lost touch with their parents, they heard the song, and they rang them up.” 

Rutherford turned regret into a No. 1 song. He said with music what he couldn't say in person—and millions of people heard exactly what they needed.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is on maternity leave…and making Buffalo Chicken Dip. That’s right, as other senior staffers, likeDr. Oz, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have stepped in for Leavitt, she’s enjoying time out of the spotlight and with her kids. But that’s not all. Apparently, the mom-of-two is also cooking up a storm.

Leavitt started her maternity leave just days before giving birth to her second baby, daughter Viviana (or Vivi), on May 1. The Press Secretary also has an almost-two-year-old son, Niko (born July 10, 2024), with husband, Nicholas Riccio.  

If you’re wondering what the 28-year-old has been up to in her time away from the White House, Leavitt hasn’t kept her maternity leave completely private. Like other famous parents, she posts regularly on Instagram. Along with sweet snapshots of Vivi cuddling on her shoulder, photos of her family enjoying a day out at JD and Usha Vance’s summer camp-themed pool party, and pics of Niko making a blueberry pancake breakfast, the mom also added her Buffalo Chicken Dip recipe.

Stacey King, who won three NBA championships with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, has died at the age of 59.

"We are devastated by the passing of 3x NBA Champion and beloved broadcaster Stacey King," the team announced on Sunday, June 7.

After retiring from professional basketball in 1999, King went on to become head coach of the CBA's Rockford Lightning in 2001. In 2006, he joined CSN Chicago — which would later be named NBC Sports Chicago — a studio analyst for his former team. He moved up to a color commentator role and eventually transitioned to Chicago Sports Network.

"Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history," Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the Chicago Bulls, shared. "His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades – first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans. We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor, and passion he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones."

According to David Kaplan of ESPN Chicago, King's death was a result of a fall at his home.

"Absolutely devastated to hear that Stacey King has passed away at the age of 59 after a fall at his home," Kaplan shared via X. "He made watching the Bulls, no matter good season or bad so much fun. God bless you, my friend. RIP. 😢💔"

The 79th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by P!NK, will air live from Radio City Music Hall honoring distinguished achievements by theater professionals on Broadway for the 2025-2026 season.

Billy Idol Discussed the Long-Lasting Success of the 'Rebel Yell' Album in 2024

While "Blue Highway" didn't rank on the Billboard Hot 100, the album it's on, 1983's Rebel Yell, reached the number 6 position on the Billboard Top 200 in July 1984.

In a 2024 interview with ABC News, Idol discussed the long-lasting success of Rebel Yell. The musician said he still enjoyed performing songs from the album in front of fans.

"I really love what I do and, you know, really believe in what I'm doing. And well the music has held up, the songs from Rebel Yell, really hold up. They're still fun to do, you know, so somehow or another, 'Rebel Yell,' 'Eyes Without of Face,' they don't really get old. They seem to still be fresh somehow. I can't believe it ," said Idol during the ABC News interview.

In the interview, Idol also discussed his collaboration with Stevens, who has been co-writing songs and performing with Idol since the early '80s. He explained that he and Stevens have worked so well together because they "give each other space" and "don't crowd each other." In addition, Idol said he and Stevens have a deep respect for each other's abilities.

"I think we're really into what we can do for each other. When I met Steve, and I really saw how talented he was, what a great guitar player, I just knew he could do anything I wanted to do. He could do it in spades. And that meant I could do anything with this guy," said Idol in the ABC News interview.

Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. is the 1973 debut album from rock legend, "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen. The album put Springsteen in the public eye and had critics calling him a "daring new artist" on the scene. But securing his recording deal wasn't a straightforward path and it even took songs that ended up on the final record in order to secure it.

One of the songs that resulted in Springsteen securing said record deal was based on his own life. "Growin' Up" tells the story of Springsteen's adolescence and being a rebelious teen in New Jersey.

This was one of the songs Springsteen wrote that ultimately convinced Columbia Records to sign him in 1972. Springsteen auditioned for John Hammond, who had also signed Bob Dylan to the same label. Initially planned to be a quick meeting ended up being a two-hor session between Springsteen and Hammond, with "Growin' Up" being one of the songs that stuck out and led to him signing with the label.

One of Springsteen's popular tracks, the extended version has often been a part of his tours, specifically the Born to Run and Darkness tours. The song is used to tell Springsteen's life story through his music. The singer-songwriter used the track as his opening number for Springsteen On Broadway, which debuted in 2017.

As the temperature rises and we prepare to welcome summer, we're so ready to break out our go-to sundresses and dust off our favorite sandals. With the change of seasons, it's a good time to give your feet some TLC, especially since they've been hibernating for months.

If you're planning a trip to the nail spa in the coming days, you're in luck because Parade consulted several nail techs to learn more about the 11 pedicure trends that everyone will be requesting this summer.

Summer nail trends typically revolve around bright hues, and there are certainly plenty of them to go around this year. But, at the same time, there are also a few fun trends to try if you're more into neutral nail polish or embellishments.

Before we jump into the hottest trends, we wanted to learn more about how often you should get a pedicure, and how to make it last longer in between appointments so you get your money's worth.

When you arrive at your appointment, you'll likely be looking for some inspiration, so we also polled the experts on some of the best pedicure colors to make feet look younger (plus a few colors that go with everything).

Can Pedicures Damage Your Toenails?

Pedicures are a relaxing experience, and they can also be a great way to take care of your feet. But if you've never gotten one before, it's normal to have some questions about the safety of the spa service. For instance, you may be wondering if pedicures can damage your toenails.

"Damage can be done by several different methods, just like any other beauty treatment. This doesn't mean to be afraid of them. Just go to a reputable salon or tech who is well-reviewed. Cleanliness is everything. This is not a time to bargain shop," celebrity manicurist and brand ambassador for KISS Nails, Julie Kandalec, says.

Pedicures can potentially cause damage to your skin and nails if your nail tech isn't laser-focused on hygiene and precision. Kandalec, who has worked with Selena Gomez, Pink, Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, says unsanitary tools can "cause infection of the nails and cuticles."

A pedicure bath is also a breeding ground for potential bacteria. "If the bath was not properly disinfected, it can cause fungal infections and ringworm of the toenails and in between toes," Kandalec says.

Fashion Week runway nail artist Jin Soon notes that pedicures can also cause damage when polish or gel polish is "left on for too long without proper removal."

"I often see white, chalky dry spots after removal, which is a sign of dehydration on the nail plate," she says.

If your nail tech is overzealous during the pedicure, it can also cause damage.

"Over-filing, aggressive cuticle cutting and improper gel removal can also weaken toenails over time. Healthy pedicures should always include maintenance and recovery between services," Soon tells Parade.

How Often Should You Get a Pedicure?

Personal preference certainly factors into how often you get a pedicure, but there's a general rule of thumb for how often you should schedule your appointment.

"Every two to three weeks is ideal for most people. This timing helps maintain healthy cuticles, manage calluses before they become excessive, and keep toenails clean and balanced without over-drying the nail plate," Soon tells Parade.

The nail pro says regular maintenance also helps prevent issues like ingrown nails and rough heels "especially during sandal season when feet are more exposed and tend to become dry more quickly."

How Do You Keep Toenails Healthy Between Pedicures?

With a few easy steps, at-home maintenance can help extend the life of your pedicure.

"I always recommend gently brushing the feet and toenails in the shower to keep them clean and exfoliated. Lightly scrubbing calluses regularly is much better than waiting until they become thick and cracked," Soon says.

One of the most important steps is to moisturize your feet daily, "especially around the cuticles and heels," she explains. Doing so helps keep the nails and skin flexible and healthy.

"Cuticle oil is going to be your best friend. We all know that it hydrates the cuticle area, but a lot of people don't know that it also keeps the nail plate flexible, which prevents the toenails from cracking, especially with the pressure of high heels or tight shoes," Kandalec adds.

How To Make Your Pedicure Last Longer in Summer

Whether you're walking in the sand at the beach or swimming around in a chlorinated pool, your toes are subjected to lots of elements in the summertime. To ensure that your pedicure goes the distance, the pros recommend taking a few precautionary steps.

"Applying a fresh layer of top coat once a week helps maintain shine and prevent chipping," Soon says.

Keeping toenails clean and dry also helps polish last longer during summer, "especially with sandals, beach days and humidity," she explains.

The heat can wreak havoc on your beauty routine, so Soon recommends avoiding "overly thick polish application," which she says "tends to chip faster in heat."

What Pedicure Colors Go With Everything?

If you're looking for a color that complements your wardrobe, these options are a good bet:

• Bright cherry red. "Less is more and this shade of red definitely completes any pedi look," nail artist Tara Haye says.
• Deep plum. "Deep plum is so dark it almost looks black, so it's a neutral," Kandalec says.
• Cream. "Cream shades are a softer alternative to white and feel fresh, clean and modern on all skin tones," Soon says.
• Chocolate brown. Haye says deep brown hues have become "quite trendy" for pedicures. "Chocolate brown is the new universal shade and is bold for people that like to stand out in a crowd," she says.
• Light blue. "Muted earthy tones feel modern and chic while giving pedicures a cool, youthful edge," Soon says.

Are French Pedicures Still in Style?

There's no denying the fact that French pedicures are pretty classic, but trends do come and go, so we were curious to know if the pros think they're still in style.

"Personally I would say no, but in Asia and even around New York City, I have seen plenty of people wearing them. For me, toenails are supposed to be clean and short. I don't want to make it look like my toenails are long," Kandalec says.

"However, a perfectly clean cuticle and soft white tip (versus a crisp one of the past) can mimic a sexy, perfect pedi in a really beautiful way. French pedicures used to only be a crisp white, but now they're much more natural looking with the sheer tip."

What Nail Shapes Are Best for Pedicures?

"I always recommend following the natural shape of the toenail whenever possible for the healthiest long-term maintenance," Soon says. You can also consider one of these shapes:

• Round. "Round-shaped nails for a pedicure are best for athletes and runners. A shorter nail is the safest shape for athletes, especially in sports where a lot of running and sudden stops are made such as tennis, volleyball and basketball. Runners and marathoners are also highly recommended to keep their nails on the shorter and rounded end," nail artist Rachel Arreolasays.
• Squoval/soft square. "Squoval/soft square-shaped toenails are ideal for that 'clean girl' aesthetic. It’s a perfect mix of both worlds: a balance between a nail shape that may be too much or too soft for one’s preference," Arreola explains.
• Square. "A straight square shape gives a clean, youthful look and works especially well on smaller nail beds. It can also help minimize ingrown toenails," Soon says.

What Pedicure Colors Make Feet Look Younger?

Kandalec tells Parade you can wear any nail color, regardless of your age, as long as you keep your feet hydrated. "Dry and flaky skin is very aging on any part of the body," she says. 

• Royal blue.Erica De los Santos, a nail artist, shares that royal blue is "like a modern, youthful statement piece" for pedicures. 
• Red coral. De los Santos says red coral shades "balance energy and warmth, giving a healthy, fresh look."
• Nude pink. She describes this shade as a "soft, clean pinkish-nude" that provides "smoothness and a youthful glow."
• Black. "It's sleek, confident and fashion-forward," De los Santos says.
• Soft creamy neutrals. "Creamy, light neutrals brighten the overall appearance of the feet without looking harsh," Soon explains.

How To Make Pasta Salad 10x Better, According to a Chef

Few things are more disappointing than a pasta salad that starts out flavorful but ends up dry and underwhelming by the time guests are ready to eat. That's a common problem with make-ahead dishes, especially during summer cookouts, where salads often sit for hours before they're served.

One of the biggest reasons is that pasta continues absorbing liquid after it's cooked, which can leave a once-perfectly dressed salad tasting bland and dry by the time guests actually start filling their plates.

According to Adrienne Grenier, Executive Chef at Burlock Coast in Fort Lauderdale's Ritz-Carlton, one of the easiest techniques to build more flavor into pasta salad is to start dressing it while the pasta is still warm.

Then, just before serving, dress it a second time.

As the warm pasta sits, it absorbs much of the original dressing. "The result is a dry salad," Grenier tells Parade. "Dressing it again at the end keeps it fresh and nicely coated."

4 Other Chef-Approved Tips for Pasta Salad

While dressing pasta salad twice may be the most impactful tip, it's far from the only technique Grenier recommends.

1. Shape makes a difference

Choosing the right pasta shape is a good place to start. Shapes with ridges, twists or curves tend to hold onto dressing better than smooth noodles. Rotini, cavatappi, fusilli and farfalle are all popular choices because they create more surface area for flavor.

In the end, though, it comes down to personal preference.

According to Grenier, "A pasta salad can be any shape. If you like spaghetti, make it with spaghetti." Her favorite pasta shape for salads is radiatori because she says it "holds dressing well, and I like it saucy."

2. Go beyond al dente

Texture is another important consideration. While hot pasta dishes are typically cooked to a firm al dente texture, Grenier recommends taking pasta salad slightly beyond that point.

"You don’t want to leave it too al dente as you would if you were finishing it in a hot sauce," she says. Unlike a hot sauce, which continues cooking the pasta, a cold dressing quickly halts the cooking process. As a result, pasta that seems perfectly al dente when drained may end up feeling too firm once chilled.

3. Double up on herbs

Herbs can also make a significant difference. Fresh basil, parsley, dill, mint and chives help brighten the dish and add freshness that balances richer ingredients. But don't limit yourself to fresh herbs alone. "All the herbs!" Grenier says. "Definitely fresh, but also add dried herbs."

1. Skipping the salt in your pasta water

One of the most common mistakes when it comes to pasta is underseasoning the pasta water. Pasta itself contains very little flavor, so properly salted water helps season the noodles from the inside out. If the pasta starts out bland, it's difficult to fully correct later.

2. Not adding dressing correctly

Another mistake is using all of the dressing at once. While the salad may look perfectly dressed initially, much of that liquid will be absorbed as the pasta sits. Saving some dressing for later helps prevent the finished dish from becoming dry.

3. Forgetting to rinse your pasta after cooking

Pasta texture can also be an issue. Because pasta is starchy, some chefs recommend giving it a quick rinse when removed from the boiling water. Excess starch can result in a firmer texture when the pasta cools.

Grenier feels that it come down to personal preference, but says, "I do think it is OK to rinse the pasta for salad because you don’t really want any excess starch."

4. Not taste-testing before eating

Finally, many home cooks forget to taste the pasta salad again before serving. Chilling can mute flavors, which means a final adjustment with salt, acid, a few herbs or dressing is often necessary.

A quick taste test before bringing the bowl to the table can make a surprisingly big difference.

We’ve all been there: An ordinary day suddenly becomes unforgettable because the object of our affection enters the room. It’s a feeling that never gets old and one that is perfectly encapsulated in an underrated ’80s-set cult comedy.

In Greg Mottola’s semiautobiographicalAdventureland, the scene in question sees the amusement park’s male employees collectively lose their minds as the resident unattainable cool girl, known only as Lisa P (Margarita Levieva), confidently strides into their orbit. Wearing an off-shoulder employee tee and acid-wash denim, with a snow cone in hand, she commands the attention of everyone around her as Joel (Martin Starr) delivers the now-iconic line, “That a-- is a higher truth.” 

It’s cinematic nostalgia at its finest and most likely the reason Rolling Stonelater named the scene one of the greatest rock-and-roll movie moments of all time. Also, because the scene’s real secret weapon was the song.

Set to the tune of The Rolling Stones’ “Tops,” a soulful deep cut off their 1981 album, Tattoo You, the soulful rock ballad features a smooth groove, Mick Jagger’s sugary swagger, and cynical undertones, making for the ideal sonic gem to capture the absurdity and fantasy of the cinematic moment. 

Despite appearing on the band’s 1981 record, the song actually dates back to 1972, when the Stones were recording material for Goats Head Soup. Rescued from the cutting-room floor nearly a decade later, “Tops” became one of the hidden gems on an album built largely from unfinished songs. 

Released in April 2009, Adventureland follows recent college graduateJames Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) whose future plans get derailed and he’s forced to take a summer job at a rundown amusement park. The film, sitting at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, is celebrated for Mottola's wit, the nostalgic atmosphere, and the carefully curated soundtrack that features more than 40 tracks from artists like The Replacements, The Cure, and The Velvet Underground.

That’s what make’s Mottola’s use of “Tops” so inspired. The track was never one of the Stones’ biggest hits, but it became a fan-favorite anyway. Thanks to Adventureland, a new generation discovered it, and today, it’s nearly impossible to separate “Tops” from Lisa P’s slow-motion entrance. Proof that sometimes a forgotten song becomes immortal when it finds the perfect scene.

Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the track "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was penned in response to a plea from Capitol Records for the band write a song that would hit with the American market. At the time the duo were writing in the basement of McCartney's then girlfriend's childhood home. They composed the song with Lennon recollecting,

"We wrote a lot of stuff together, one on one, eyeball to eyeball. Like in 'I Want to Hold Your Hand,' I remember when we got the chord that made the song. We were in Jane Asher's house, downstairs in the cellar playing on the piano at the same time. And we had, 'Oh you-u-u/ got that something ...' And Paul hits this chord and I turn to him and say, 'That's it!' I said, 'Do that again!' In those days, we really used to absolutely write like that—both playing into each other's noses."

In 1963 the Fab Four recorded the song with four-track technology with 17 different takes. Demand for the single was high, with over one million advance orders for it being placed. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was released at the height of Beatlemania, and the response was electric. A week after entering the charts, it knocked another Beatles tune, "She Loves Me" off of the top spot in the UK. It became the Christmas number one song of that year.

In the United States, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was released in early December of 1963. Originally, it had been planned to release the song in the US in January of 1964 to coincide with an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, however a 14-year-old fan of The Beatles named Marsha Albert requested it on the radio a month earlier, triggering the United States phenomenon of Beatlemania, forcing the record label's hand.

The demand for the song in the states was unprecedented for the time, with 10,000 copies being sold in New York City every hour just three days after the initial release. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" sold roughly five million copies just in America, and became the first US number one single for The Beatles.

According to Billboard, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is the 48th biggest hit of all time in music history. For The Beatles, the single became their best-selling song in their entire catalog, selling more than 12 million copies worldwide.

The song is considered to be one that "electrified American pop." Timelisted it among its 100 best songs of all time, and Rolling Stone ranked the song number 16 on its iconic "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."
