Art legend David Hockney died at age 88. The world-renowned British painter’s portraits and landscapes made him an icon of the contemporary art world.

Per his publicist, Hockney died “peacefully at home” on Thursday. He was one month short of his 89th birthday.

Hockney trained at the Bradford School of Art from 1953 through 1957. He later studied at the Royal College of Art in London, from 1959 through 1962, earning a Gold medal of distinction.

The artist left London in 1964 and moved to Los Angeles, where he painted his beloved swimming pool series, Beverly Hills Housewife, and a double portrait of Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardy. During this time, he began using photography in his portraiture. He later abandoned this technique, citing it as overly reliant on photorealism. 

Not only is Hockney a celebrated painter, but he also created iconic opera and theater stage designs for productions including Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi (in 1966) and Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress (in 1975).

By the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Hockney had moved from a painter to exploring his subjects through an art-historical lens. Using optical devices, he approached his subjects from a deeper perspective as an investigator and theorist. In 2001, he published “Secret Knowledge” (a.k.a. The Hockney/Falco Thesis) with Professor of optical science, Charles Falco. 

Hockney returned to Yorkshire in the early 2000s, again focusing on landscapes. During this time, he created a watercolor series, Midsummer: East Yorkshire, and oil paintings, Bigger Trees near Warter.

The artist moved back to Los Angeles in 2013, and then back again to London a decade later. Hockney spoke with the BBC in 2025, prior to his exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, sharing, “I just thought I probably wouldn’t be here…I’m still a smoker, a happy smoker fed up of bossy people telling you what to do, but I don’t know.”

He embraced the use of modern technology in his later years, telling the Royal Academy Magazine, “I am at the moment drawing, or painting really, on an iPad. I have been working this year, 2020, to depict the arrival of spring in Normandy. This takes about three months, and I think it’s the most exciting thing nature has to offer in this part of the world.” 

He continued, “It is a new medium. With pluses and minus like any medium…Once, when we were just sitting outside the house, we put all the lights off in the house to see the moonlight more clearly. The moon could then be seen to cast shadows of the trees on the grass, so with my backlit iPad, I could draw it. That would have been virtually impossible without it.” 

David Hockney would have turned 89 on July 9.

In 1970, Simon & Garfunkel released what would become one of the most celebrated songs in popular music history. More than five decades later, another legendary group is putting its own stamp on the classic.

As part of its ongoing 50th anniversary celebration, Foreigner has released a live rendition of the Grammy-winning masterpiece "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

The track appears on the band's upcoming live album and concert film soundtrack, In the Eye of the Storm, which arrives July 24.

"We have released a special rendition of the classic 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' from our upcoming live album In The Eye Of The Storm," the band wrote in a message to fans. "A song we've always admired and one we're proud to now make our own."

Foreigner also shared a message on Facebook reflecting on the significance of the release.

"As we celebrate 50 years of Foreigner, we're honored to share our rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's timeless classic, 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,'" the band wrote. "Recorded live and featured on our upcoming album and concert film soundtrack, In the Eye of the Storm, our performance is available now on all streaming platforms."

Founding member Mick Jones said in a statement, “50 years ago, I had a vision for a band. I wanted the best musicians I could find to perform and record the best songs we could create. Foreigner succeeded largely because of the wonderful lead vocalists that I was fortunate enough to work with. Lou Gramm, Kelly Hansen, and Luis Maldonado lit the way to the fulfillment of my original vision. To hear them sing together the song that started it all was a very special moment for me. Their performance of 'Feels Like The First Time' and Luis Maldonado’s passionate rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' are emotional highlights."

Fans were quick to praise the performance.

"This sounds so awesome!" wrote one listener on YouTube.

"Perfectly beautiful," added another.

A third fan called it a "beautiful version of a timeless classic."

Over on Facebook, one listener singled out current Foreigner vocalist Luis Maldonado, writing, "A wonderful rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water.' Luis nailed it with his outstanding voice."

The original version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was released by Simon & Garfunkel in January 1970 and became one of the biggest hits of the decade. The song spent six consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and finished as Billboard's top song of 1970.

It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and has since been covered by dozens of artists ranging from Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.

The new recording is the latest release from Foreigner's ambitious 50th anniversary campaign. The upcoming In the Eye of the Storm project features performances filmed during the band's special anniversary concert and includes appearances from multiple generations of Foreigner singers, including original frontman Lou Gramm.

Alongside the new music, Foreigner has also launched a new 18-month wall calendar covering July 2026 through December 2027. The collectible calendar features rare photographs from throughout the band's history and is available for $20 through the group's official store.

Nearly 50 years after first emerging as one of arena rock's defining acts, Foreigner continues to celebrate its legacy while introducing classic songs to a new generation of listeners.

The skincare pros we chatted with have plenty of practical tips for protecting your skin from the sun's harsh rays, and they're more than happy to share the knowledge. After a few weeks of following their advice, your skin will thank you for it.

Do Moisturizers With SPF Work as Well as Sunscreen?

Whether or not you wear a daily SPF or a moisturizer with SPF in it really comes down to personal preference and lifestyle. But it certainly helps to know the difference between the two products.

"Face moisturizer that contains SPF is primarily a hydrating product first and foremost  that happens to have SPF as an ingredient," board-certified dermatologist Dr. Alicia Zalka, MD FAAD, tells Parade. "This product type makes a daily application of sun protection, which is ultra paramount for skin health and beauty, an easier daily commitment."

However, Zalka notes that moisturizers with SPF aren't necessarily as strong as products that are specifically formulated to be sunscreen.

"These moisturizers with sunscreen are not tested or designed to live up to the same rigorous testing as dedicated sunscreens. Nor are they intended to be used anywhere but the face, neck and perhaps décolleté," Zalka, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine, says.

Dr. Jodi Logerfo, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, DCNP, notes that moisturizers with SPF "provide less UV protection than true sunscreens."

"They should not be relied upon as your primary sun protection," Logerfo, who specializes in both medical and cosmetic dermatology, says.

The bottom line? Face moisturizers with SPF can offer sun protection and are a useful product to have in your skincare collection. But they don't replace sunscreen.

"A moisturizer with SPF is meant to hydrate the skin, with UV protection as a secondary benefit; whereas, a sunscreen is specifically formulated and tested to provide dedicated, reliable UV protection," Sejal K. Shah, M.D, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Smarter Skin Dermatology, agrees.

What SPF Do Dermatologists Recommend for Daily Use?

The SPF you use for a day at the beach isn't necessarily the same one you should use on a daily basis.

"For an average day of commuting to work, being indoors all day and returning home to an indoor environment, an SPF of 30-40 would be sufficient," Zalka says.

Logerfo recommends looking for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays.

For days when you're going to be more exposed to the sun, you should consider using a stronger SPF.

"If you’ll be spending extended time outdoors such as at the beach, hiking, golfing, sightseeing or attending outdoor events, I recommend a broad spectrum SPF 50 or higher," Shah explains.

How To Choose the Best Moisturizer With SPF for Your Skin Type  

Whenever you add a new skincare product into your routine, it's best to find one that's formulated to support your specific skin type. Not sure where to start? Here's a quick cheat sheet from Logerfo and Zalka.

• Sensitive skin: "Select gentle products and/or those specifically formulated for sensitive facial skin. Avoid products containing PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) or any other ingredients that the specific patient is sensitive to," Logerfo says.
• Dry skin: "Look for products that have sun protection with moisturizing/hydrating ingredients. Emollients are great," Logerfo explains.
• Oily or acne-prone skin: "Use water-based formulations to help prevent pores from clogging and decrease the greasy feel that can make acne worse. Products should be labeled as noncomedogenic or oil-free," Logerfo says.
• Mature skin: Zalka says mature skin does best with moisturizers with SPF that "contain antioxidant ingredients like vitamin C."
• Skin of color: "You want to look for products that specifically say 'no white cast or visible residue,'" Logerfo says.

Above all, it's important to find a moisturizer with SPF that you're actually going to use.

"The best choice is one that you will apply daily, but if you choose a formula that supports your skin's specific needs, you are more likely to use it,"  Shah says.

How Much and How Often Should You Reapply Moisturizer With SPF?

One of the biggest sunscreen mistakes people make is forgetting to reapply throughout the day. The same goes for moisturizers with SPF.

"If you drive home or walk home in the blazing sun between 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. or go to an after-work baseball game, that moisturizer with SPF 30 that you applied in the morning is no longer protecting you. You must reapply it or add a dedicated sunscreen product to your face and also to arms, legs or any exposed parts," Zalka says, adding that reapplying every two hours is your best bet.

Shah also notes that many moisturizers with SPF aren't formulated to be water-resistant or sweat-resistant and says you may need to reapply more frequently if you're sweating a lot.

In terms of the amount of sunscreen you should apply, Zalka says quantity counts.

"A light smear of facial moisturizer with SPF does not provide a lot of protection. You need about 1/3 teaspoon to adequately cover your face and neck," she explains.

If you don't want to tote around your facial moisturizer all day long, you can still get sun coverage when you reapply by using an SPF powder.

"I carry Colorescience Sunforgettable in my purse and I reapply it to my face, the backs of my hands and forearms during the day," Zalka says.

Shah calls this "a great option for sensitive skin."

"It's specifically formulated without common irritation triggers. This mineral-based formula is free of chemical UV filters, fragrance, alcohol, parabens, soap, silicone and mineral oil, which can commonly irritate sensitive skin," she says.

As an added bonus, it serves as a moisturizer thanks to built-in "soothing and moisturizing ingredients" that work hard to "calm and hydrate sensitive skin."

Some products are just worth splurging on. If you have a little wiggle room in your beauty budget, Jaliman suggests investing in this daily moisturizer that offers SPF 23 coverage.

"It contains turmeric extract to minimize fine lines and glycerin to help hydrate the skin," she says.

In addition to moisturizing skin, the multitasker addresses loss of firmness and elasticity. Other key ingredients include vitamin E, which protects the skin barrier, and KOMBU-Bounce Complex, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

"This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer hydrates, restores and soothes the skin while providing broad-spectrum protection. It really feels like a luxury product at a drugstore price," Shah says.

Queller is also a fan of the formula, which is free of fragrances and parabens.

"This moisturizer contains ceramides and prebiotic thermal water to support the skin barrier while providing daily UV protection in a well-tolerated formula," she explains.

"It provides broad spectrum protection while soothing and hydrating," she says.

Before John Denver became known as a country and folk music legend, his first hit was originally given as a Christmas gift. The then-unknown songwriter released a track in 1969 inspired by love, which became a breakthrough hit on the charts.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" was first written years before its released in 1966. Denver was only 23 years old and wasn't well known in the music scene yet. He wrote the track not intending for it to be a hit or become something more, and included it on a demo titled John Denver Sings.

The track caught the interest of Denver's longtime producer, Milton Okun, who felt it needed a title change. It was changed from its original title, "Babe I Hate to Go", to "Leaving on a Jet Plane." Denver has spoken fondly of the track being "very special" to him, and wrote it during a layover at Washington National Airport.

"This is a very personal and very special song for me. It doesn't conjure up Boeing 707s or 747s for me as much as it does the simple scenes of leaving. Bags packed and standing by the front door, taxi pulling up in the early morning hours, the sound of a door closing behind you, and the thought of leaving someone that you care for very much," said Denver to BBC Radio.

"I was fortunate to have Peter, Paul and Mary record it and have it become a hit, but it still strikes a lonely and anguished chord in me, because the separation still continues, although not so long and not so often nowadays."

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" soon landed on the charts, but not Denver's version. The song was covered and released that same year by folk group Peter, Paul and Mary. At the time, Denver had just split from the Chad Mitchell Trio and was close friends with the folk group, as they shared the same producer.

Peter, Paul and Mary version of the track landed them at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent three weeks on top of the easy listening chart. The track even became a staple for United Airlines commercials in the early 1970s. While the song got its fame thanks to the folk group, Denver also relished in the spotlight for being its songwriter. He became more well-known in the music scene, got TV appearances, and launched his future career.

Denver would re-record the track for his own debut studio album that same year. Despite its popularity, his version failed to chart.

“Maintaining proper blood sugar levels benefits everyone, not just those with diabetes. When your blood sugar swings up and down throughout the day, you feel it in numerous ways: the 2 p.m. crash, the ‘hangry’ feelings before meals and brain fog. Stable blood sugar means more consistent energy, better focus and fewer of those urgent ‘I need to eat right now or I am going to pass out’ moments,’” explains registered dietitian Maryann Walsh, RD.

Shaelyn Gurzick, RD, CDCES, a registered dietitian and diabetes educator at City of Hope Orange County in Irvine, California, also says that everyone can benefit from maintaining stable blood sugar. In addition to impacting mental health and energy levels, Gurzick tells Parade that when blood sugar is unsteady long-term it can impact blood vessel function, cause inflammation and increase the risk of cancer.

How Cinnamon Impacts Blood Sugar 

Even though cinnamon is often found in sweet baked goods, Walsh points out that swapping out sugar for cinnamon doesn’t always work; cinnamon has a more subtle sweetness than sugar and tastes more warm, woodsy and a bit bitter. 

There are different types of cinnamon, which taste slightly different from each other. Ceylon cinnamon is generally described as delicate and complex, while cassia cinnamon has a stronger, spicier flavor profile.

Even though cinnamon tastes different than sugar, both dietitians say it can be used to add flavor to foods like oatmeal and baked foods, or used in coffee. Walsh says that using cinnamon in foods and drinks like this to cut down on the amount of sugar used is a smart replacement in terms of blood sugar control. Gurzick says this too, adding that extracts like vanilla and almond extract can also be a helpful way to add perceived sweetness to foods that don't raise blood sugar.

“Cinnamon, specifically Ceylon cinnamon, has been shown to support insulin sensitivity and slow gastric emptying, meaning sugar enters the bloodstream more gradually. While the research is promising, it’s not definitive and you’d typically need to consume about half a teaspoon to one teaspoon daily to see any meaningful effect,” Wash says.

While cinnamon can support insulin sensitivity, Gurzick emphasizes that it is not a replacement for diabetes medications. She adds that maintaining an overall diet that supports blood sugar stability is still important too. 

Other Health Benefits of Cinnamon

Besides supporting blood sugar, both dietitians say that cinnamon is also good for heart health. Scientific research shows that consuming cinnamon regularly could help lower LDL cholesterol and reduce inflammation.  

“All in all, it's a low-risk, high-flavor addition to your diet that is simple and accessible, and if it nudges blood sugar in the right direction, that's an added bonus,” Walsh says.

Though cinnamon is generally considered low-risk and safe to consume, Walsh says that consuming large amounts of it (particularly Cassia cinnamon) can stress the liver. As with everything, it’s best to consume cinnamon in moderation.

“Cinnamon is a complement to a healthy diet, not a one-size-fits-all solution for one,” Walsh says.

Other Tips for Managing Blood Sugar 

Incorporating cinnamon into your meals (especially as a way to cut back on sugar) is a small, yet meaningful way to support blood sugar levels. But both dietitians emphasize that what matters most is what your overall diet looks like. 

To keep blood sugar levels steady, Gurzick says to consume balanced meals that have protein, fiber and unsaturated fats. She recommends consuming complex carbohydrates (such as whole grains, legumes and starchy vegetables) instead of simple carbs (such as white bread, white rice and pastries).

Eating this way, Gurzick says, does more than support blood sugar levels. It also helps with satiety, helps to maintain energy levels and can be beneficial for weight management.

“It’s also important to stay well hydrated and drink lots of water. This can help to keep blood sugars stable by allowing the kidneys to eliminate excess sugar through urine,” Gurzick says.

In addition to what you eat, when you eat is also important. Walsh warns against skipping meals, which can cause blood sugar levels to plummet. Instead, she says to enjoy nutrient-balanced snacks between meals, such as an apple and almond butter or crackers and cheese. 

As you can see, maintaining stable blood sugar doesn’t just come down to one dietary habit or food. But using cinnamon as a way to cut back on sugar is one small, yet impactful way to support blood sugar. And, as a bonus, you’ll be supporting your cholesterol levels too.

Released in 1985, a sprawling six-minute rock track quickly stood out as one of the most ambitious Bible-inspired songs of its time.

However, that wasn’t how it was originally intended. The Hooters’ epic "All You Zombies" came together when members Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian wrote the song, but initially thought it was a throaway tune.

In an interview, the band members explained the song's creation. The tune was included on their 1985 release Nervous Night.

Hyman called the song “the granddaddy of our Bible-story songs. We just started singing and playing and writing words as fast as they could come; it was a ping-pong match. The song just happened.”

“It just has mystery to it. A lot of great songs are mysterious; you don’t quite know what’s going on. It just resonated with people.”

Bazilian said in an interview with Vinyl Writer Music, "We just wrote the song, and I don’t know that we’re really qualified to interpret it. It’s one of those songs that just kind of came to us, kind of fully formed, and we’re still trying to figure out what it’s about."

He continued, "The song has a great history though; that is the oldest surviving Hooters song. We wrote that in January 1980, before we even had a band, before we even had a name."

Bazilian concluded, "We just knew that we were forming a new band and that it was going to have a new name. The song has been recorded a bunch of times; we recorded that in our first batch of demos."

According to their official website, the group was named for the "hooter." The band's unique instrument of choice is officially called the melodica.

Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman were founding members of The Hooters, soon joined by drummer David Uosikkinen. Guitarist and vocalist John Kuzma, along with bassist and vocalist Bobby Woods, also came on board early in the band’s formation.

After Hyman and Bazilian worked with Cyndi Lauper on her debut album She’s So Unusual, guitarist John Lilley and bassist Rob Miller joined the group. However, Miller was sidelined following a car accident, and Andy King stepped in on bass. This lineup went on to break through on MTV with the release of Nervous Night.

The Hooters continue to tour and record music, 41 years after their breakout hit.

Country music fans will have an opportunity to say goodbye to one of the genre's most beloved voices.

The Grand Ole Opry House announced Thursday that it will host public visitation and funeral services for longtime WSM radio personality and Grand Ole Opry announcer Bill Cody on Monday, June 15.

According to a press release from WSM, visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. CT in the Grand Ole Opry House auditorium. Family, friends, colleagues and fans are all invited to attend.

The Grand Ole Opry and WSM Radio will also honor Cody with special programming throughout the day. The funeral service will be broadcast live on WSM Radio 650 AM and streamed on WSM's Facebook page, allowing listeners around the world to participate in remembering the longtime broadcaster.

Cody, whose given name was Trent Barry Clutts, died June 9 at age 67.

For more than three decades, he was one of the most recognizable voices in country music, serving as host of WSM's flagship morning show, Coffee, Country & Cody, while also becoming a beloved announcer and host at the Grand Ole Opry.

His official obituary reveals that Cody's love of radio began as a child in Lebanon, Kentucky, where he accompanied his father to a local radio station that aired the minister's weekly sermons.

"I could see Frank Kemp with those headphones on," Cody once recalled. "He was pushing buttons, and the records would spin, and that red light would come on."

That fascination eventually became a career that took him to radio stations in Kentucky, Florida and Texas before his dream job arrived in 1994.

"Well, in April of 1994 that phone call came," his obituary states. "His dream since childhood had come true."

Over the next 32 years, Cody became one of country music's most respected broadcasters. He was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in 2008, received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame in 2024 and will be inducted posthumously into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.

But according to his family, his proudest accomplishments happened away from the microphone.

"Trent was more than just a radio and television personality," the obituary states. "His biggest accomplishments were not made on a stage in the public eye. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend."

Following the service at the Opry House, Cody will be laid to rest at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Cross Plains, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Hope Center Ministries in Portland, Tennessee.

The Internet Crimes Complaint Center (IC3), a division of the FBI, released its 2025 report with staggering numbers for seniors. Based on data from the FBI and FTC, here are the 7 biggest scams targeting seniors today. 

1. AI voice-cloning/virtual kidnapping: A deepfake AI voice pretends to be a loved one, claiming they were kidnapped, and you must pay the ransom.
2. Government impersonation (IRS, FBI, SSA): Legitimate-looking scams that mimic real government agencies and threaten you with jail or penalties if you don’t pay.
3. Phantom Hacker/tech support scam: A pop-up or other notification on your phone or computer that says you’ve been hacked and urges you to call support.
4. Romance/confidence fraud: Fake online profiles, often run by AI, that pretend to want a romantic relationship or want to be your friend.
5. Investment and crypto fraud: Often starts as financial “advice" that tries to draw you into a scheme.
6. Crypto ATM fraud: Similar to the crypto scam, except you’re encouraged to deposit cash into crypto machines. 
7. Medicare/phishing scams: This scam attempts to get your personal Medicare information.

How To Avoid These Scams

AI has made scams so much more convincing, but there are precautions you can take to help avoid becoming a victim. 

1. Create a family safe word to verify if the person on the other end of the line is actually your family member. Never share this outside of your family. 
2. Call the person directly to confirm the initial contact was really from them. Never use contact information provided by a potential scammer.
3. If you receive a photo or video, take a screenshot and have someone help you examine it. Send it to a trusted friend or family member for a second opinion.
4. Never pay with a gift card or crypto. These are untraceable and can’t be recovered. 
5. If something looks suspicious, assume it’s a potential scam and double or triple check with verified sources. Report potential scams to IC3.

Expert Jeffrey Snyder of the Broadcast Retirement Network says, “Our mature adults (seniors) are the most vulnerable to cyber fraud and scams. Seniors typically have collected the most wealth of any generation, and therefore scammers are trying everything they can to separate them from their account balances.”

If you’ve fallen for one of these scams in the past, don’t feel bad. They’re sophisticated and aggressively targeting people 60+. Stay wary, report suspicious behavior, and never act quickly. If you take time and think through the potential scam, you’ll hopefully be able to avoid falling prey to it.

The weekend lunch rush used to be an expensive routine of generic wraps and ho-hum chips. Now, a Southern staple is betting that good food and a Saturday discount will shake things up.

Newk’s Eatery is debuting a full menu overhaul themed around America's 250th anniversary. They call it the "Star-Spangled Summer" lineup, which runs from now until September 1. This seasonal campaign aims to celebrate American heritage through a collection of flavors that evoke classic summer memories.

The focus is heavy on fruit, melted cheese, and weekend budgets. Newk's will cut the price of a second entrée by 50% every Saturday. It requires a baseline purchase, but the move targets families looking for a lower priced option of pricey drive-thru meals.

Madison Newcomb, Director of Marketing, laid out the direction: "Our summer menu is all about bringing people together around fresh flavors and feel-good moments. From refreshing berries and peaches to comforting classics with a Newk's twist, we wanted to create a menu that feels fun, nostalgic and uniquely summertime."

The offerings upend typical summer menus: First up is the Red, White and Blueberry salad, which piles chicken, pecans, and feta over a base of mixed greens, strawberries, and blueberries. It gets a splash of fat-free raspberry vinaigrette.  This dish highlights the "Star-Spangled" theme by using naturally red and blue fruits against the white of the feta cheese.

Then comes the Turkey Melt sandwich. They are stuffing turkey, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, and tomatoes between slices of French bread, finished with honey mustard. 

But the most unusual item is the soup. Broccoli cheddar usually belongs to a chilly autumn night. Here, it sits right at the center of a summer menu. The brand says the recipe calls for simmering the florets in a thick, spiced cheddar broth with sweet onions, then adding extra shredded cheddar right on top. To wash it down, the chain is offering peach tea.

Ultimately, the vibe is about comforting bread and melted cheese, paired with a Saturday deal that makes sense for the wallet. For diners, it’s a way to grab a weekend lunch without ruining the budget.

Leif Garrett was one of the biggest teen idols of the 1970s, but it wasn’t a title he had aspired to.

The young star started out as a child actor in films and TV shows such as Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Macon County Line, The Odd Couple, Family Affair, and more before he was eyed to be the next teen music idol.

In the late ‘70s, Garrett began recording music on the Scotti Brothers record label, starting with covers of Dion’s “Run Around Sue” and The Beach Boys' "Surfin' USA.” His biggest hit came in 1978, with “I Was Made for Dancin’.” Written by Michael Lloyd, the disco-infused pop song peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and made Garrett a bona fide radio star and Tiger Beat cover idol.

But by that time, the teen was already checked out.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Garrett recalled, “Nobody ever came up to me and said, ‘Hey kid, can you sing?’... They already had their marketing down. I was the full California image of blond, somewhat androgynous looking pretty boy, full-on skateboarder and surfer actually living that life lifestyle.”

Garrett admitted that he “never really paid attention to” teen pop music because it wasn’t his style.

“I like the British invasion stuff, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones and all that sort of stuff,” he shared, noting that he felt pressure to be the next Andy Gibb or Shaun Cassidy.

“I just didn't like the music and what I was doing,” he added.

Garrett also knew there was no future as a bubble gum pop star.

“Even when I was in it and it seemed enormous, I knew that there was no longevity to the teen idol business,” he said. “The kids that are digging your music—and I was the age of the people buying it—it's a pubescent thing.  … It’s a short period of someone's life.”

Garrett once told Smashing Interviews that he was never allowed to make the music he wanted as a teen and would have stayed an actor had he known.

“I would’ve stuck with acting,” he admitted. “I was asked if I wanted to make a record, not if you make this record with us, that’s all you’re going to be doing for the next five years and not really doing anything in the acting genre.”

“I had to learn trial by fire. I was not a born singer,” he added.

Garrett also shared that while he became a decent singer, some of the music he recorded didn’t even sound like him, as his career was tightly micromanaged by the Scotti brothers.

“I think I was a good performer from the get-go, but I wish they had offered me singing lessons before ever making a record,” he told Glide magazine in 2019. “There’s a particular track ['I Was Looking For Someone To Love'] that doesn’t even sound like me at all. I would even possibly say I wasn’t even on that track. And to me, that IS fraud. That’s like a Milli Vanilli situation, the difference being, of course, mine was blended many times with myself and somebody else.”

Garrett struggled for decades with the after-effects of his fame, but in recent years, he has logged new music and TV projects. In 2019, he published his memoir, Idol Truth.

One of heavy metal's most beloved, hardest rocking drummers is preparing for a new chapter on the road.

Nicko McBrain, the longtime drummer of Iron Maiden, has announced the Hello Boys And Girls 2026 European Spoken Word Tour, giving fans a chance to hear stories from his remarkable career following his recent departure from Iron Maiden's touring lineup. The tour marks McBrain's first major solo outing since ending his four-decade run as Iron Maiden’s touring drummer, a role he held since joining the band in 1982.

The spoken-word shows will feature McBrain reflecting on his life in music, sharing behind-the-scenes stories from his years with Iron Maiden and discussing the experiences that helped make him one of the most recognizable drummers in rock.

For generations of fans, McBrain was an essential part of Iron Maiden's classic lineup.

He joined the group ahead of the release of Piece of Mind and went on to perform on many of the band's most celebrated albums, including Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. His powerful yet highly technical drumming helped define the sound of classics such as "The Trooper," "Run to the Hills," "Aces High" and "Fear of the Dark."

The tour announcement comes after a significant period of change for McBrain.

In recent years, the drummer openly discussed the challenges of recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2023.

"When it first happened I thought, 'This is it, I'm not going to be able to play. I've got a tour coming up in three months' time,'" McBrain told Louder. "I did a lot of strength exercises, a lot of stretches with weird weights that they have and I got my stamina back. Through all this period of time I was in touch with [bassist] Steve [Harris], obviously all the guys, and I'd have a bit of a chat with them on the phone and they were all very very encouraging, and none more so than Steve. He said, 'Look the most important thing is that you get well and work on getting yourself together.'"

Despite returning to the stage and continuing to perform with Iron Maiden, he eventually stepped away from the band's touring activities while remaining part of the broader Iron Maiden family.

"It's funny, because sometimes when I sit at my practice kit I can do the big drum fill in the intro to 'The Trooper.' But even then it's a bit flaky, it's not clean," McBrain told Ultimate Classic Rock. Making the decision to stop touring with Iron Maiden was difficult, but McBrain wasn't ready to retire from the road altogether.

McBrain remains eager to stay connected with fans. The upcoming spoken-word performances will allow him to revisit stories from one of the most successful careers in heavy metal history, including his experiences touring the world, recording classic albums and working alongside bandmates Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers.

For longtime Maiden fans, the tour offers something different from a traditional concert. Instead of hearing the songs themselves, audiences will hear the stories behind them from the man who helped bring many of those classics to life.

After more than 40 years behind one of rock's most famous drum kits, Nicko McBrain is embarking on a new adventure, one that promises plenty of memories, laughter and insights from a legendary career in heavy metal.

Imagine dropping the F-bomb on a track in the 1960s when your fans knew you as squeaky clean pop singers! That’s exactly what happened to The Beatles on their 1968 track “Hey Jude.”

The song is now considered one of the best Beatles songs of all time, and very few people have heard Paul McCartney accidentally drop the F-bomb in the recording, although some fans will say it was John Lennon who made the mistake. The fact that it was left in was an even funnier story.

It all started when McCartney played a wrong note, which led to some loud feedback in his headphones. Around the 2:56 mark of the track, there’s a distinct “Oh!” and then just two second later, “f–king hell” is mentioned. It’s extremely quiet, and it doesn’t show up in the remastered versions of the track, but it did appear in the original version.

Why? Lennon wanted it to. He found the entire situation hilarious, and he thought it was best to keep the mistake in rather than re-record the whole song. The band and team also agreed not to try to scrub the words out, either. Recording in the 1960s was much trickier than it is today, and it would have meant scrubbing perfect vocals just before the blip.

Instead, the volume was turned down on McCartney’s mic, and that helped to muffle the words enough by the rest of the vocals and music.

Since the release of the 1968 track, “Hey Jude” has been named as one of the best songs by the British band. It’s outro is often cited as the reason for more songs to involve audience participation. That outro is a full four minutes long, with the song being seven minutes in total, becoming the all-time longest track ever to be a #1 hit. 

It wasn’t even originally titled “Hey Jude.” The song was written by McCartney for Jules Lennon to comfort him during his parents’ divorce, and it was supposed to be titled “Hey Jules.”

Paul McCartney was in London this week celebrating his new album, but one question about a recent acting role prompted the music legend to reflect on someone he clearly still misses dearly.

During a fan event in London on Wednesday, June 10, the Beatles legend reflected on working with the late Rob Reiner while promoting his new No. 1 album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. McCartney, 83, had been asked whether his song "Mountain Top" was inspired by his appearance in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved mockumentary franchise directed by Reiner.

"No," McCartney replied, per Closer Weekly. "But it was great being in that film cause I love Spinal Tap. The way they make the films, it's very improvised."

The conversation quickly turned more emotional as McCartney acknowledged what the project had come to mean to him in the wake of Reiner's death. "And actually, what made it really important to me was that Rob Reiner directed it," he said.

Turning his attention to the crowd, McCartney added, "Let's hear it for Rob." As the audience erupted into applause. "You know, that is sort of sad and added a bit of bittersweet edge to it," he said.

This isn’t the first mention McCartney has made about the late director. Shortly after Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, died in December 2025, the former Beatle wrote a tribute on Instagram, mentioning how he had recently worked with Reiner.

"What a tragedy the death of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, is," McCartney wrote at the time. "It is so shocking in many ways but for me especially so, because over the last year I had been working with him. He directed me in 'Spinal Tap II: The End Continues'. He was such an upbeat, lovable man." McCartney continued, "Life can be so unfair and this tragedy proves it." 

He concluded his tribute by reflecting on Reiner's legacy both on and off screen. "I will always have fond memories of Rob and the idea that he and his wife will no longer be in the world with us is heartbreaking.”

The couple was found dead at their California home late last year after suffering fatal stab wounds. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths. He has pleaded not guilty.

Helen Mirren has nothing but love for MobLand co-star Tom Hardy, despite the actor's reportedly dramatic exit from the Paramount+ series.

The Oscar-winning actress, 80, spoke out in defense of Hardy, 48, at the Taormina Film Festival following last month's reports that the actor would not be returning for a potential Season 3 due to his on-set behavior and friction with producers.

"I love Tom. I think he’s the most amazing actor," Mirren told press at the film festival, as per Deadline. "I’ve always loved him on screen, and different actors have different processes. I’ve learned over the years that some people get things fast and other people took time."

Despite reports that Hardy had allegedly kept Mirren and fellow star Pierce Brosnan waiting to film scenes, Mirren insisted that she would work with him again in "a heartbeat."

"As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with whatever, however anyone gets there," she said. "Tom is a very special person. He’s got the kindest heart… I think he’s absolutely remarkable. So my support of him is genuine and heartfelt."

As for the Peaky Blinders actor's future on MobLand, Mirren said she fully expected to see him return for Season 3.

"We also have a very great writer, Jez Butterworth, a powerful, fantastic writer. So I really hope it’s going to happen. When you have these sort of very powerful artistic people working together, the creative process is very challenging, and people can get their knickers in a twist, as we say," she said. "But yes, we will go forward, absolutely, and it’ll be even better."

MobLand follows two warring London crime families that clash "in a kill-or-be-killed battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives," according to the show's official logline.

MobLand has yet to be officially renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+, with Season 2 scheduled to begin streaming later this year.

She may have risen to music stardom in the '90s, but Alanis Morissette hasn't aged a day.

While it's been over 30 years since Jagged Little Pill pushed her to international superstardom, the rocker hit the red carpet and proved she hasn't aged a day in the decades that passed.

Morissette Will Perform at the World Cup

The Canadian queen is honoring her home country this weekend as she kicks off the FIFA 2026 football World Cup. She'll perform on Friday, June 12, at the Canadian opening ceremony along with Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, William Prince, Sanjoy, Nora Fatehi, Elyanna, and Vegedream. The show stars at 10:30 am PT / 1:30 pm ET, 90 minutes before the game kicks off. The festivities will air on Fox in the US and CTV in Canada, Louder confirmed.

Looking Back on 30 Years Since Jagged Little Pill

While Morissette was just a young rocker when Jagged Little Pill debuted in 1995, she's seen the album continue to resonate with fans over the last three decades. She recently shared that she's still tremendously proud of the songs, which continue to be favorites for diverse audiences.

“It is fortuitous that most if not all of my songs are ones that I can still stand behind. I can sing them with conviction because the value system has not changed," she shared, Parade previously reported. The only one that could do with an update is ‘Not the Doctor,’ as I hadn’t been married for 16 years yet. Now I know that we do, in fact, participate in each other’s healing.”

Thayne Jasperson, 45, is a Broadway star who has been a part of Hamilton since it opened in 2015. He is the only original cast member remaining who is still performing in the show night after night. Unfortunately, he is forced to take a break after suffering an injury on stage.

On June 10, Jasperson revealed that he was in the middle of performing the iconic song, “What’d I Miss,” during the second act of the Broadway play when he tore a tendon.

“So I have bad news," he said in his Instagram post. "I tore my bicep tendon/rotator cuffs while doing a lift, had to get surgery and now I’m out of Hamilton for a while. I’m so bummed. I will miss seeing ya’ll at the show. But… I’ll be back.”

Jasperson did not reveal how long he would be taking a break from Hamilton. However, in the past, he has admitted he has no intention of leaving the hit show anytime soon.

“I couldn’t leave before the Tonys, then it was the Grammys, then we were filming it [for Disney+], now we have all of these people coming… I just couldn’t leave,” he told PEOPLE when asked about his reasons for remaining with the production for so long. “Did I know [Barack] Obama or Beyoncé would show up to the show? No. But it’s become this huge, epic thing that’s kept me tied in. I always tell Lin [Manuel Miranda], ‘You wrote too good of a show… I can’t leave.’"

Jasperson continued, “You’re gonna be wheeling me out in a wheelchair. I’m gonna be 82, and they’ll be like, ‘Get off the stage!’ So what’s next is more of this. I don’t have a plan. I’m trying to be spontaneous and live in the moment.”

In addition to Hamilton, Jasperson appeared in High School Musical and High School Musical 2. He also competed on the 4th season of So You Think You Can Dance, where he was the 5th contestant eliminated. He officially made his Broadway debut in Newsies in 2012 and also appeared in stage shows of Matilda and Finding Neverland.
