American Airlines Just Launched Its Shortest Flight in 6 Years

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 7:10am

For travelers who have barely had time to buckle their seatbelts before the "prepare for landing" announcement begins, American Airlines is officially offering the ultimate "quick hop."

Starting this spring, the carrier has launched its shortest flight in over six years—a micro-route that turns a typically long boat trek into a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it aerial connection.

The new service, operated by regional affiliate American Eagle, links Miami International Airport (MIA) to South Bimini Airport (BIM) in the Bahamas.

Spanning just 64 miles across the Florida Straits, the flight is the shortest post-pandemic route in American’s entire network. To put that distance in perspective, the last time the airline operated a shorter segment was a 55-mile hop between Philadelphia and Allentown, which was cut in 2020 and replaced by a bus.

For the vacationer looking to maximize every second of island time, this 64-mile "shuttle" is less about the onboard snacks and more about removing the friction of travel.

By launching this service, American is turning what used to be a maritime-only crossing into a seamless connection, allowing passengers from the Northeast or Midwest to clear security once and fly straight through Miami to the white-sand beaches of Bimini.

While most of the airline's "ultra-short" routes—those under 90 miles—cluster around hubs like Charlotte or Chicago to feed domestic traffic, the Miami-to-Bimini route represents a different kind of strategy.

It expands the airline's leisure portfolio, creating a "bite-sized" international gateway that serves as a high-frequency link to the Caribbean. As the airline increasingly optimizes for connectivity, this micro-flight ensures that even the smallest destinations stay within reach of a one-stop itinerary.

Tulip Season Is Almost Here and This Is the Best Place to See Them in the U.S.

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 7:02am

Every spring, millions of brightly colored tulips bloom across the United States, creating vibrant landscapes that draw photographers, road-trippers, and flower lovers alike. While several states celebrate the season with festivals and gardens, one destination consistently stands out as the best place to see them: the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley, Washington.

Located about 60 miles north of Seattle, this iconic spring event transforms farmland into a patchwork of colorful blooms each year. Often compared to the famous tulip fields in the Netherlands, the festival attracts visitors from around the world who come to see millions of tulips stretching across acres of farmland.

View this post on Instagram When Tulip Season Happens

Tulip season in Skagit Valley typically runs from late March through late April, with peak bloom often occurring in the first two to three weeks of April, depending on weather conditions.

The annual festival itself runs for the entire month of April, when the fields are usually at their most colorful. However, bloom timing can vary each year because tulips are highly dependent on temperature and rainfall.

Travelers planning a trip are encouraged to check bloom updates before visiting, as the flowers only bloom for a short window each spring.

What Makes Skagit Valley So Special

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a collection of tulip farms spread across a scenic farming region. The festival’s main attractions include farms like RoozenGaarde Display Garden, Tulip Town, Tulip Valley Farms, and Garden Rosalyn.

Each location offers a slightly different experience. RoozenGaarde is known for its carefully designed display gardens featuring hundreds of tulip varieties, while Tulip Valley Farms offers a more immersive experience where visitors can walk among rows of flowers and even pick their own blooms.

Across the valley, millions of bulbs are planted each year, creating enormous stripes of color that stretch across farmland with the Cascade Mountains in the distance. Some gardens also include windmills, ponds, walking paths, and seasonal events, making the area especially photogenic.

View this post on Instagram How to Visit the Tulip Fields

The tulip fields are spread across roughly a 15-mile area between the Skagit River, the Swinomish Channel, and Highway 20, so exploring them often works best as a scenic driving tour.

Most visitors start in the nearby towns of Mount Vernon or La Conner, which serve as gateways to the festival. From there, travelers can drive between farms, stop for photos, and explore the surrounding area.

Tickets are required for most tulip gardens, and admission usually ranges from about $15 to $20 per adult depending on the farm and the day of the week. Many locations include free parking with admission.

Weekdays are typically the best time to visit, since weekends can get crowded during peak bloom.

What Else to Do in the Area

While the tulips are the main attraction, the Skagit Valley region offers plenty of other things to explore.

The waterfront town of La Conner is known for its charming shops, art galleries, and seafood restaurants overlooking the Swinomish Channel. It’s also home to the Museum of Northwest Art, which features rotating exhibits focused on regional artists.

Outdoor enthusiasts can also explore nearby parks like Deception Pass State Park, one of the most visited parks in the state, known for dramatic coastal cliffs and scenic hiking trails.

View this post on Instagram Why It’s Worth the Trip

Tulip festivals can be found in several U.S. states, including Michigan, Oregon, and Iowa. But the scale of Skagit Valley’s bloom is what truly sets it apart.

With millions of flowers spread across wide farmland and framed by mountain scenery, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival delivers a spring experience that feels closer to the Netherlands than the Pacific Northwest.

For travelers looking to celebrate the arrival of spring, it’s easily one of the most colorful, and unforgettable, destinations in the country.

1975 Classic That Was a Massive No. 1 Party Hit Was Nearly Given Away

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 7:01am

More than five decades ago, Swedish pop group ABBA were flailing.

Even though they’d taken the world by storm with their “Waterloo” win at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, their tour wasn’t selling out, the album wasn’t catching fire, and whispers of the band being just a “one-hit wonder” were starting to creep in.

That is, until Mammageddon.

View this post on Instagram

According to the band’s official website, ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were hunkered down in Ulvaeus’ home library in Lidingo writing what would become a smash single. When they were done, their manager, Stig Anderson, contributed the title.

“That turned out to be another distinctive and memorable title, and one that maybe a native English writer would have thought was too European – and very uncool,” Ulvaeus shared in the book Mamma Mia! How Can I Resist You?“The saying ‘mamma mia’ is used very, very commonly in Swedish and is just as well known a phrase as it would be in English.”

With the release of the group’s third album, the self-titled ABBA, rapidly approaching, they recorded “Mamma Mia” on March 12 in the Metronome Studio in Stockholm. It was the very last track to be added to the album, but get this -- they almost gave it away to another group.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, ABBA didn’t think their "Mamma Mia" had enough ma-ma-magic, so they offered it to another pop quartet, Brotherhood of Man. You may remember the foursome as the group who won Eurovision in 1976 for the United Kingdom with their sugary tune, “Save Your Kisses for Me.”

"We knew it was a potential smash," Martin Lee, one of Brotherhood’s singers, told The Guardian in 2022 of the ABBA song, "but left it for the next recording session because we wanted to do 'Save Your Kisses for Me.' Of course, ABBA then did it themselves.”

It’s a good thing ABBA did. When “Mamma Mia” was finally released as a single in the U.K., it went straight to the top. As for the rest of Europe, the song charted in the top five in more than 10 countries, per ABBA.com

According to Billboard, the song peaked at No. 32 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart but saw massive and lucrative success in the states in other ways. Like spawning a “jukebox musical” that would become the ninth longest-running Broadway show ever and a movie franchise that would star Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried -- the soundtrack for which would become a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 200 (the sequel's soundtrack peaked at No. 3).

“As far as Great Britain was concerned, ABBA never looked back," the band's site shares. "With 18 consecutive Top Ten singles and millions of albums sold, they have enjoyed a steady, strong popularity in the decades since then."

25 Years Ago, This Classic 1939 Hit Was Named 'Song of the Century'

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 6:50am

Exactly 25 years ago today, a classic 1939 ballad sung by Judy Garland was named the Song of the Century.

On March 12, 2001, the Recording Industry of America Association (RIAA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) released a list of the top 365 songs of the 20th century, with the beloved Wizard of Oz track, "Over the Rainbow," ranked at No. 1.

🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬

At just 16 years old, Garland first recorded "Over the Rainbow" in 1938 for the groundbreaking film The Wizard of Oz, and it would go on to be one of the biggest movie soundtrack songs of all time.

With music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg, "Over the Rainbow," became a cultural phenomenon, taking home the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 12th Academy Awards in 1940. It would also later be ranked as the greatest movie song of all time on the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Songs list.

Garland recorded a studio version of "Over the Rainbow" with Decca Records in 1939, which was inducted into the National Recording Registry in 2017 by the Library of Congress for its cultural significance.

"Over the Rainbow" became Garland's signature song for the duration of career. In 1967, she was asked during a press conference in Cherry Hill, N.J., if she ever gets tired of singing the song, to which she replied, "[Am I] tired of 'Over the Rainbow?' Listen, it’s like getting tired of breathing."

"The whole premise of the song is a question. A quest. At the end, it isn’t, 'Well, I’ve found my world and I am a success and you and I will be together.’ The lyric is having little bluebirds ‘fly over the rainbow. Why, oh, why can’t I?’ It represents everyone’s wondering why things can’t be a little better," she said at the time.

2 years later, Garland died in June 1969 from an accidental barbiturates overdose at the age of 47.

In March 2001, the RIAA and NEA named "Over the Rainbow" as the No. 1 song of the 20th century.

Here are the rest of the RIAA and NEA's Top 10 Songs of the 20th Century:

  1. "Over the Rainbow"Judy Garland
  2. "White Christmas"Bing Crosby
  3. "This Land Is Your Land" Woody Guthrie
  4. "Respect" Aretha Franklin
  5. "American Pie" Don McLean
  6. "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" Andrews Sisters
  7. "West Side Story" (album), original Broadway cast
  8. "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" Billy Murray
  9. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" Righteous Brothers
  10. "The Entertainer" Scott Joplin

The full list—which music listeners have debated for years—includes a total of 365 songs and features a wide range of artists, from Otis Redding ("Dock of the Bay," No. 22), and Patsy Cline ("I Fall To Pieces," No. 107), to Madonna ("Material Girl," No. 161) and The Beach Boys ("Good Vibrations," No. 24).

This Music Festival Was Just Named the Best in the U.S.

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 6:46am

Summer is right around the corner, which means many people are day dreaming about warmer weather and summertime favorite pastimes, like attending BBQs, hanging out with friends, and catching a summer concert or two.

If you're someone whose summer plans include attending more than just a few concerts, you may be interested in attending one of the country's many music festivals, like Bethlehem, Pennsylvania's Musikfest. This 10-day festival was recently named the best in the country by USA Today, and as someone who attends every year, I can totally understand why. From free shows, to big name bands, the annual event has absolutely everything you could want in a music fest...including kid-friendly options.

View this post on Instagram Bethlehem, Pennsylvania's Musikfest Names Country's Best

The festival, which typically runs between the end of July and early August, won top honors in USA Today's Reader's Choice Awards, when it was named the Best Music Festival (2026). The summer celebration kicks off at the Steel Stacks, the now defunct industrial plant that was once used to supply the nation with the steel and iron needed to produce building materials for many of the country's biggest landmarks.

These days, it's the homebase of Musikfest, which uses the retired stacks as a backdrop for performers. According to Lehigh Valley Live, some of the more famous performers to grace the stage include:

  • Meat Loaf
  • Counting Crows
  • The Beach Boys
  • The Doobie Brothers
  • Heart
  • REO Speedwagon
  • Boys II Men

But, attendees don't have to pay big money to attend the festival despite the big names. Instead, free performances outnumber the paid ones, and music fans can often hop between 16 different stages to see a stagger 500-ish bands a year.

Muskifest is More Than Just Music

While one can argue that there is something for everyone at Musikfest—music stylings range from metal mariachi to polka—the festival has plenty of other draws as well. You'll find different tents and stands selling souvenirs, mouth-watering foods, and even handmade goods.

Plus, there are plenty of activities available as you wander between the stages, and festival organizers have tented areas where you can sit down and take a load off between shows.

As for family-friendly fun, it doesn't get much better than Musikfest. I live about 10 minutes from where the event is held, and each year my children and I head out to catch some live music at one of the open air venues outside the Steel Stacks, where they have plenty of space to run around while the band plays. There are also designated children's sections, where you can find tables hosted by the Crayola Factory so that your little ones can explore their creativity with free crafts.

The festival also typically features an area that has a collection of bounce houses and other physical activities, for when your kids are looking for a little more entertainment.

Interested in checking it out this year? Get ready to grab your commemorative Musikfest cup, fill it with your favorite beverage, and head to the nearest stage when the festival kicks off on July 31, 2026. I know I'll be there!

The 4 Birth Dates With Resilient Auras

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 6:34am

While some people need to put in a conscious effort to maintain a positive attitude during difficult times, others seem to possess an innate resilience that helps them cope more easily. It’s as if they carry a protective barrier, allowing them to move forward without being overly concerned about others' intentions, thoughts, or feelings, or about things beyond their control. Deep down, they trust that they will be taken care of. This faith is not naive; instead, it strengthens their spirit.

According to expert numerologists and astrologers, four birth dates have a naturally resilient aura. Is yours listed below?

Which Birth Dates Carry a Resilient Aura?

Check for your birth date. Disregard your birth months.

Born on the 7th

Individuals born on the 7th are influenced by Neptune, the planet associated with emotional intuition. Your talents may not be visible, but they are deeply felt. You have a strong ability to sense shifts in energy, emotional moods, and hidden knowledge beneath the surface. As a result, you are often guided and protected by your higher awareness. Resilience is a defining characteristic for you, although it may not manifest in the usual forms of grit and toughness. Instead, your compassion serves as a transformative force, turning obstacles—whether for yourself or others—into valuable opportunities for growth and change.

RELATE?: How You're Spiritually Gifted, Based on Birth Date

Born on the 18th

Fierce Mars, the warrior planet of preservation and bold justice, guides those born on the 18th. Individuals with this birth date are exceptionally driven. Even when logic or outside experiences suggest defeat, they refuse to give up and instead become more motivated to achieve their goals. Their resilience comes as naturally as breathing. When your biggest fear is not living up to your potential, becoming stuck, or accepting defeat, it’s easy to remain strong. Their energy field quickly dispels negative energy, and you can’t keep them down for long.

CUTE!: Which Baby Animal Matches You Best, Based on Birth Month

Born on the 24th

Being born on the 24th of any month influences a person's magnetism. Venus, the planet of love and affection, guides your path, allowing you to naturally restore harmony wherever you go. It's easy for you to make others laugh, lighten the mood, and bring pleasure to those around you. As a result, you don’t typically exert strength or fight for things. Instead, you lean back and allow the universe to handle matters for you. While you possess ambition and will defend yourself when necessary, you understand that a lot can be accomplished with a little diplomacy. Working smarter, not harder, is your forte. Consequently, your aura tends to attract beauty and light, making it naturally resistant to harsher forces.

Born on the 30th

With your radiant light, you brighten the world around you. You're guided by Jupiter, the planet of lucky expansion and empowered leadership. This influence makes it easy for those born on the 30th to maintain faith during challenging times. Resilience, for you, doesn’t mean pushing against the grain. Instead, you largely trust in the divine timing of life. You take responsibility for what is within your control to welcome success, but you also understand that worrying about the unknown is a waste of precious time. You bring strength to any occasion, inspiring others to view life through the optimistic lens that you embody.

The Supersmart Rice Hack We Wish We'd Known About Sooner

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 6:22am

Rice is a nonnegotiable in my house. We use it for quick lunches, those chaotic weeknight dinners when I’m shuttling kids between sports practices and club meetings and even for after-school snacks. Sometimes, I have it for a quick breakfast when I want something savory. Having rice ready to go isn’t just convenient for us; it’s a need.

Sure, there are steamable microwave bags at the store. I’ve tried them. They’re fine in a pinch, but sometimes they have a strange aftertaste or a texture that’s just a little off. When you eat as much rice as we do, you notice.

Cooked rice will typically last a few days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. After that, both quality and food safety become concerns. Freezing rice is a better way to extend its life, but for years, I avoided it because I assumed it would turn dry or gummy.

Then I stumbled across a simple rice-prep hack shared by content creator Joshua Weissman (@flakysalt) and, like many good internet discoveries, it made me wonder why I hadn’t been doing this all along.

I soon found other creators who freeze their rice, and I realized I am behind the curve when it comes to meal prepping with rice. Because we rely on it so often, running out of rice, or realizing it hasn’t been cooked, can derail dinner plans fast. That’s where this freezing method comes in handy.

I love rice #fyp

♬ Green Onions - Booker T. & The MG's How Long Does Rice Last in the Fridge?

Cooked rice should be cooled quickly and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Properly stored, it lasts about three to four days. After that, it can dry out and potentially harbor bacteria if it hasn’t been handled correctly.

If you’re cooking large batches for the week, that short window can be limiting. Freezing rice extends its shelf life significantly, allowing you to keep it on hand for weeks without sacrificing quality.

The key is freezing it the right way.

What You Need For This Rice Hack

Courtesy Angel Albring

In the video shared by flakysalt, the flat bag method is straightforward. You will need cooked rice, a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and a spatula. You can also use a baking sheet if it helps you keep your bag flat. You will also need enough space in your freezer to lay the bag flat.

Content creator saucceats uses a slightly different approach and for that one you will need cooked rice, a silicone baking mold or cupcake tin and a freezer bag.

I only used the Ziploc bag method, but the mould method also looks easy and follows the same idea.

How To Do This Rice Hack

For the bag method, you cook your rice as usual and let it cool completely. Once cooled, transfer it to a large zip-top bag.

Courtesy Angel Albring

Instead of dumping it in a clump, press the rice into an even, flat layer inside the bag. Then use a spatula to gently score the rice into portion-sized squares before placing it in the freezer. Keep the bag flat as it freezes.

Courtesy Angel Albring

When you need rice, simply break off one square along the scored lines and microwave it for two minutes. The thin, flat portions reheat quickly and evenly, steaming themselves back to fluffy perfection.

For the mold method, cook and cool your rice, then pack it into silicone molds or muffin tins. Once frozen solid, pop out the portions and store them together in a larger freezer bag. When it’s time to eat, you grab one or two portions and reheat them the same way.

This method creates perfectly round or cup-shaped servings, which can be helpful if you like precise portion sizes. It’s also a smart option if you don’t have freezer space to lay a large bag flat.

Related: The Chinese Way to Make Fried Rice 10x Better

What I Thought of This Rice Hack

The beauty of both hacks is that they preserve texture. Because the rice is frozen in thin or compact portions, it reheats quickly without drying out. The trapped moisture turns to steam in the microwave, reviving the grains.

Courtesy Angel Albring

I tried the Ziploc bag method only because I was storing a lot of rice at once. I cooked four cups of rice for this hack and I was able to get two half-cup servings out of one square of frozen rice. All it took was a quick reheat in the microwave, which was perfect for when I really didn’t feel like cooking.

For a family that leans on rice as heavily as mine does, having a freezer stash ready to break apart and heat in minutes is a small shift with a big payoff. It eliminates last-minute cooking, reduces food waste and skips the questionable taste of some packaged microwave options.

Now, instead of wondering whether the rice in the fridge is still good, I know there’s a fresh-tasting portion waiting in the freezer.

Ninja’s Top-Rated Air Fryer Completely Leveled Up My Kitchen — and It’s on Sale at Amazon

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 6:15am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Air fryers are undeniably one of the hottest kitchen trends of the last few years. Essentially powerful countertop convection ovens, these appliances can quickly deliver a satisfyingly even crisp with minimal to no oil thanks to their compact chambers and fans that circulate hot air. While air fryers have technically been available to everyday consumers since Philips launched its first version in 2010, the technology began taking off in a big way closer to the end of the 2010s as brands released an influx of affordable, user-friendly models. Out of all the varieties to hit the market, the Ninja Crispi has garnered some of the most buzz.

Released in late 2024, the Ninja Crispi stands out from the stationary basket air fryers that are common nowadays thanks to its dishwasher-safe, portable glass basket that allows you to monitor your food’s progress in real time. Securing a Ninja Crispi does require a bit of an investment. However, as someone who has owned and used one on a near daily basis for months now, I can attest that it’s more than worth the cost for its convenience and fantastic crisping ability. My exact model is on sale at Amazon for $160 right now in select colors, the lowest price for this top selling product in the last 30 days.

In addition to producing shatteringly crisp French fries and perfectly juicy proteins, the Ninja Crispi relies on a cooking method that experts have deemed healthier than traditional deep frying.

“Air fryers use very hot, circulating air to make food crispy with little to no added oil,” Michelle Routhenstein, MS, RD, CDCES, CDN, a Preventive Cardiology Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator, told Parade. “Unlike deep frying, your food is not sitting in a bath of oil, so air-fried foods can have about 70 to 80% less fat and fewer calories than traditional deep-fried versions. Reducing added and saturated fats can help support healthier cholesterol levels and overall heart and metabolic health when part of a balanced diet.”

Related: Ninja’s 'Must-Have' 6-In-1 Indoor Grill Is $100 Off at Amazon, and It 'Saves Time and Money'

Routhenstein added that steaming, poaching, pressure cooking, and baking or roasting with little oil are “the healthiest cooking methods overall.” However, air frying is still a good, widely accessible option for those who want to enjoy crispy food while remaining health conscious: “I usually describe air frying as a better fried option, not the healthiest way to cook, but a practical, more heart-friendly way to enjoy something crunchy.”

Ninja has several Crispi air fryer sizes available across a range of retailers, some with additional or fewer features. This particular variety comes with a 6-cup glass container that’s great for compact kitchens, plus a 4-quart container that can fit a whole chicken. Each basket has its own removable crisper grate that keeps food elevated so air can circulate evenly. The Ninja Crispi PowerPod is compatible with both sizes and ready to use once plugged into an outlet. You’ll just need to attach the included adapter to the pod when you want to cook in the larger basket, but I’ve found that it easily snaps on and off.

Users can set cook times and choose from air frying, max crisping, baking, and recrisping modes, so it’s easy to fine tune your process for different foods. I love using the classic air fryer mode for cooking salmon, chicken, and frozen snacks like taquitos and tater tots. The recrisp option is excellent for reviving leftovers, and the max crisping mode is perfect for when I want to cook something in a hurry (like when I realize halfway through making dinner that a side of spring rolls would really hit the spot).

The Crispi truly delivers on the “crisp” factor without drying out my food, and anything I cook with it tends to retain that crisp texture. One of the absolute best features, though, is the fact that it’s dishwasher safe. I detest hand washing dishes, so I love that I can throw the glass chambers and grates into the dishwasher after cooking with them. The containers come with snap-on lids that you can use to store food, and they’re easy to stack and store away when not in use.

I’m far from the only user who has fallen in love with the Ninja Crispi. It’s a TikTok darling with an impressive 4.6-star rating on Amazon, and certain colorways have sold by the thousands in the past month alone. Users said it’s “worth the money” and “works wonderfully,” with one writing: “I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this.”

The independent film brings a message of hope and positivity and reminds us that there are politicians and lawmakers who want to create a better world. Here's everything we know about Ethan Almighty - Ethan's Law—including the full cast.

'Ethan Almighty - Ethan's Law' is based on a true story

Ethan Almighty - Ethan's Law is based on the real life events. Ethan Almighty's official website provides a detailed description of the new legislation: "Ethan's Law increases the punishment for intentional torture of a cat or dog and changes it from a first offense misdemeanor to a first offense Class D Felony. This law also defines torture more thoroughly and includes the restraint of the cat or dog."

"It also outlines the wanton disregard for the acts of torture," the statement continues. "Basically, if you intentionally, with wanton disregard, restrain your cat or dog and torture them by either physical abuse or infirmity by intentionally denying them food or water then you are violating this law."

There's an Indiana Jones connection to 'Ethan Almighty - Ethan's Law'

Best known for movies like The Boondock Saints and Powder, Ethan Almighty - Ethan's Law stars Sean Patrick Flanery as the lead. In one of his earliest roles, Flanery starred as the young future archaeologist and college professor, Indiana Jones in the ABC television series, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. The show would run for two seasons as well as four movies, all starring Flanery as the titular character.

Actor Trevor Donovan has been cast to star alongside Sean Patrick Flanery

Trevor Donovan was recently cast to play Eric Davidson in the film. Donovan starred in multiple Hallmark films before making the jump over to Great American Family. Recent credits include Where the Wind Blows and Chasing Christmas. He can next be seen guest starring in the upcoming season of When Hope Calls.

Throughout his career, Donovan has advocated for dog rescue and welfare, volunteering and using his celebrity platform to raise awareness for countless organizations. On March 10, 2025, he shared a video in support of Paws Place. "Rescue dogs don’t just need a home—they need a chance," he wrote. "Paws Place gives them that, making sure they’re safe, cared for, and ready for a fresh start. Grateful to support the work they do."

He was also a commentator for the 2026 Great American Super Bowl Rescue, which aired on Great American Family.

Donovan will reunite with a 'Dancing With the Stars' cast mate

Donovan has starred in multiple films for Hallmark Channel and Great American Family—including such fan favorites as Twas the Text Before Christmas, Jingle Bell Princess and Love on a Limb. He has also guest starred on such shows as NCIS, Lucifer and Drop Dead Diva.

1978 Unforgettable Country Warning Song Beat Its Own Songwriter to No. 1

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:57am

In 1978, a country warning song raced up the charts, transforming a simple message about a card game into a powerful life lesson for millions of listeners.

Kenny Rogers likely never expected “The Gambler” to become a career-defining hit. But its warning about thinking before you act resonated with listeners, turning the song into one of country music’s most enduring classics.

However, Rogers was not the first artist to record the song. According to U Discover Music, Don Schlitz wrote and recorded the song in 1976, and had a modest chart hit, reaching No. 65 on the Billboard Charts. Before Schlitz, Bobby Bare cut the song, and even Johnny Cash recorded it for his LP Gone Girl.

But it was Rogers who took the song all the way to No. 1 on the country music charts. It would become a signature hit and the lead song from the album of the same name.

“The Gambler” had a simple life lesson: “know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em.” The warning quickly became one of the most recognizable lines in music history.

Schlitz said writing the titular song came quickly. He told American Songwriter he was walking home from a meeting with “my mentor Bob McDill to my apartment, and in that 20 minutes I wrote most of it in my head. I didn’t write a last verse, had no idea what was gonna happen, thought it was an interesting story, but it was a throwaway. I spent about six weeks trying to figure out what was gonna happen after the chorus.”

The song was so beloved that it inspired a series of five television movies over 17 years. Rogers played the lead character of Brady Hawkes in the films The Gambler (1980), The Gambler: The Adventure Continues (1983), The Gambler Part III: The Legend Continues (1987), The Gambler Returns: The Luck Of The Draw (1991), and Gambler V: Playing For Keeps (1997), per the singer's official website.

Additionally, The Gambler album earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, and the single scored a nomination for Record of the Year. Rogers also won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male.

Kenny Rogers died on March 20, 2020. He was 81.

What Did Carolyn Bessette's Parents Think of JFK Jr.? Everything We Know About Her Mom and Dad

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:54am

The entire world knows about Carolyn Bessette's famous in-laws—they werethe Kennedys, after all. Bessette became part of that historic American dynasty—led by the late President John F. Kennedyand his fashionable wifeJackie Kennedy—when she wed John F. Kennedy, Jr. in an intimate ceremony on Cumberland Island, Georgia on September 21, 1996.

Tragically, both of JFK Jr.'s parents had died before they could get to see their only son get hitched to his beloved bride, but there were many members of the larger Kennedy clan at the nuptials like family matriarch Ethel Kennedy. Bessette's own relatives—including older sisters Lisa and Lauren Bessette and parents Ann Messina Freeman and William Bessette—were among the 35 guests.

CBK fans got to see a fictionalized version of the Bessette family in Episode 6 of FX and Hulu's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Constance Zimmer played Carolyn's mother, Sydney Lemmon portrayed Lauren Bessette and Sebastian White was Carolyn's stepfather, Richard Freeman. With renewed interest in the Bessette side of the power couple, here's everything we know about Carolyn's parents.

Who are Carolyn Bessette's parents?

Joining a brood that already included twin sisters Lauren and Lisa, Carolyn Bessette was the youngest child in the family. Her father was William J. Bessette (born 1942)—an architectural engineer and later cabinetmaker—while her mother Ann Marie Messina (born 1939) was an educator and administrator in the New York City public school system.

The couple raised the girls in White Plains, New York, and remained together until 1974, divorcing when Carolyn was eight years old. Following the split, mom Ann later remarried to orthopedic surgeon Richard Freeman and moved with him and her daughters to Greenwich, Connecticut; dad William remained in White Plains after the divorce.

Actress Constance Zimmer, who portrays Ann in the FX and Hulu series Love Story, called Carolyn's mother "the most emotionally gratifying and heart wrenching person I’ve had the honor of representing on screen" in a November 2025 Instagram post.

The performer delved deeper into the role with PEOPLE, especially on the sorrow of Carolyn's parents following her untimely death: "At the core, love and grief is universal, so whether you are a mother or aren't a mother, it's like, we all can relate to falling in love and the struggles that come with it, and the part of it that is the hardest is the other side of this story," Zimmer told the outlet. "I think for me, as a mom, it's even more devastating, but I think it's just devastating across the board."

Did Carolyn Bessette's parents like JFK, Jr.?

Though ultimately it seemed that the Bessettes accepted John F. Kennedy, Jr. as their son-in-law, Carolyn's mother, Ann, apparently expressed her concerns during a wedding toast, which was dramatized by Zimmer and Co. in Love Story.

“It was boisterous and lighthearted, for the most part, except for a toast made by Carolyn’s mother, Ann Freeman," Robert Littell—a close friend of the groom—wrote about the rehearsal dinner and Ann's speech in his memoir, The Men We Became: My Friendship with John F. Kennedy, Jr. "I don’t remember her exact words, but she implied that she was worried for her daughter, unsure if this union was in her best interest. In hindsight, it’s chilling. At the time, I was surprised by her bluntness and felt bad for John, who was visibly stung by the remarks."

On July 16, 1999, JFK Jr., Carolyn and her sister Lauren all died in a tragic plane crash piloted by John. The Bessette family released an official statement expressing their grief and love for all parties involved in the horrific accident, per The Wall Street Journal: "Each of these three young people—Lauren Bessette, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr.—was the embodiment of love, accomplishment and passion for life. John and Carolyn were true soul mates [and took] solace in the thought that together they will comfort Lauren for eternity."

What happened to Carolyn Bessette's parents?

Ann Messina Freeman and William Bessette outlived their daughters Lauren Bessette and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy by several years. On April 24, 2007, Ann passed away at the age of 67. William largely stayed out of the public eye following the tragedy and details about his death have not been publicly confirmed.

Did the Bessette family sue the Kennedys?

Yes, mom Ann Freeman and the family of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy did file a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of John F. Kennedy Jr. following the 1999 plane crash that killed Carolyn, her sister Lauren and JFK Jr.

The lawsuit alleged negligence in the operation of the aircraft by John—conditions were reportedly dark and hazy during the planned flight from Essex County, New Jersey, to Martha's Vineyard, and Kennedy had only logged 300 hours of flight experience prior to the trip. The airplane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean before the flight could reach Martha’s Vineyard, killing everyone aboard.

How much money did Carolyn Bessette's family get?

In July 2001, the family of Carolyn and Lauren Bessette reached a reported settlement of $15 million—pulled from the estate of John F. Kennedy, Jr.—following the 1999 plane crash that killed the Bessette sisters and JFK Jr. However, Ann's lawyers publicly disputed that figure. The settlement was privately handled, allowing the Kennedys to avoid the widespread scrutiny and emotional distress of a public trial.

Human Design 101: What It Is and How to Find Yours

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:43am

As the editor of Parade's astrology vertical, I enjoy exploring various spiritual practices—both ancient and modern—to help my readers find tools for deeper self-discovery. My experiences with Rhythm & Resonance, Human Design, and spiritual coaches at The Ann Savannah, as well as my sessions with Nicole Hernandez, a practitioner at The Four Seasons Hotel, have provided me with a complex yet validating and exciting exploration of Human Design. So, what exactly is Human Design, and how can you determine your own? Read on for a beginner-friendly guide that will offer you essential information to kickstart your journey into this fascinating field.

What is Human Design?

Human design reveals key personality traits, how you process emotions, and insight into your energy. While the system itself is relatively new, Samantha Howarth, resident reader at The Ann Savannah and founder of Rhythm & Resonance, notes that "it draws on ancient systems including astrology, the I-Ching, and chakra-based energy centers." Founded by Alan Krakower, who published the first book on the subject matter in 1992 under the pseudonym Ra Uru Hu, human design is an in-depth self-discovery tool.

Nicole Hernandez, a human design reader and hypnotist at The Four Seasons Hotel and former VP of PR, shares the beauty of this spiritual tool. She starts by acknowledging that belief isn't required. Per its founder, Human Design simply invites you to experiment and see what works for you. "At its core lies one simple truth: we are all different, and when we stop trying to operate according to society’s standards and start honoring our own life path and needs, life begins to flow with far greater ease."

How to Calculate Your Human Design?

Your birth time, date, and place are needed to calculate your Human Design chart online, much like calculating one's astrological natal chart. Nicole Hernandez shares that Human Design weaves together ancient wisdom and modern science to produce what’s referred to as a “bodygraph” or “human design chart,” an energetic blueprint or map of the human body. This becomes your personal reference point for self-discovery.

Once your chart is calculated, you should see a visual like the image above. It will look super complex, with many colors, numbers, shapes, and glyphs. There are shapes representing each chakra. Lines that are colored in connect the chakras. Feeling overwhelmed? Howarth reassures that this deep system has many layers and that "you don't have to feel as if you have to master it or dive into it all at once". To get you off to a strong start, we'll explore the beginner-friendly basics of your human design: the energy types and authority types.

Photo by Ekaterina Goncharova on Getty Images

The Human Design Energy Types

There are five main energy types in human design, which categorize someone as a Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, or Reflector. Each type is designed to operate and interact with the world differently. Howarth notes, "Energy types in human design represent how your life force moves". Shena Tarie of Rhythm & Resonance, a reader at The Ann Savannah, shares that it can also reveal "the nature of your aura", or your energy field.

Read on to discover more, with insights from Nicole Hernandez.

Generators

Generators are the driving force of the planet. They provide sustainable energy to bring projects and ideas to life, acting as masters of their craft. They fulfill their purpose by engaging in what they love. Notable Generators include Oprah Winfrey and Aaron Rodgers.

Manifestors

Manifestors are individuals who initiate and catalyze change. They possess a unique ability to introduce bold new ideas and drive cultural shifts. These individuals are designed to follow their creative impulses. Notable Manifestors include Frida Kahlo, Maya Angelou, and Martha Stewart.

Manifesting Generators

A blend of Manifestor and Generator, Manifesting Generators are dynamic individuals with sustainable energy and a consistent drive to create real impact. Notable Manifesting Generators include Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez.

Projectors

Projectors are natural guides and leaders. They possess a unique ability to understand others deeply and often excel in roles such as teachers, strategists, and experts. Projectors excel at mastering complex systems and have a talent for seeing the bigger picture. Notable Projectors include Nelson Mandela, Taylor Swift, and Queen Elizabeth II.

Reflectors

Reflectors are the rarest energy types; they serve as mirrors for their community's health and can initiate or accelerate change. Highly attuned to the energy around them, Reflectors often feel different based on the people they interact with. Notable Reflectors include Sandra Bullock and Margaret Atwood.

The Human Design Authority Types

According to "Human Design: The Definitive Book of Human Design", there are seven Authority types: Emotional, Sacral, Splenic, Ego, Self-Projected, Mental, and Lunar. Howarth shares that "your human design authority type serves as your compass, guiding you in making decisions and determining what is right or wrong for you".

Read on to discover more, with insights from Nicole Hernandez.

Emotional Authority

The most common authority, Emotional Authority, asks you to wait through intense emotions such as excitement, frustration, or anger before making significant decisions. This approach aims to provide time for a more neutral, grounded perspective before commitment.

Sacral Authority

Sacral Authority involves tuning into your gut response when making decisions about how to spend your time and energy. You might have come across the saying, “It's either a hell yes or a hell no.” This phrase perfectly encapsulates how this authority operates, based on instinct.

Splenic Authority

The Splenic Authority embodies a rapid inner awareness regarding the healthiness of people and situations. This intuitive guidance arrives quickly and is often felt as a physical sensation, such as the hairs on your arms standing up. It offers clarity about which environments, opportunities, and individuals are safe and beneficial for you.

Ego Authority

Ego Authority finds clarity by connecting with the heart's true desires. Decisions can be shaped by desire, willpower, or sincere commitment. The essential point is to say "yes" only when you genuinely have the energy and resources to follow through, rather than doing so to prove your worth.

Self-Projected Authority

Self-Projected Authority refers to answers that come from your own words. Clarity is reached by discussing ideas with someone you trust and reflecting on what you actually express. Your truth emerges through your own voice.

Mental Authority

For individuals with Mental Authority, having a healthy environment and trusted advisors is essential. First, evaluate your physical surroundings: do they feel comfortable and suitable for you? Next, engage with a trusted group of advisors as sounding boards to help you process your decisions. This isn't about seeking their opinions; rather, it's about allowing your own insights to surface.

Lunar Authority

Exclusive to Reflectors, Lunar Authority advises that significant decisions should be considered over a complete lunar cycle, which lasts about 28 days. Reflectors benefit from taking their time, resisting external pressures, and discussing the decision in various environments and with different people throughout this period. Ultimately, a profound inner understanding will emerge.

Applying Human Design

Shena Tarie, spiritual reader at The Ann Savannah, explains that her work with human design helps clients recognize when they are acting out of conditioning or external pressure. Howarth agrees, adding that human design "allows things to flow so much more easily - you prevent yourself from burning out, get more aligned opportunities, and you can recognize what truly is meant for you in the long run."

In summary, the goal of human design is to empower us to make decisions that feel more natural, aligned, and in harmony with our energetic blueprint.

'70s Icon Just Named The 'Funniest Stand Up Comic Of All Time'

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:42am

The 1970s and 1980s are widely considered one of the most important eras in stand-up comedy. Comics like George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield, and Richard Pryor dominated the era, becoming some of the most successful comedians in American history. The ranking website The Top Tens recently ranked the top 10 funniest stand-up comics of all time, with George Carlin coming in on top.

Fans Praise George Carlin’s Comedy and Social Commentary @bss.movie

Commenters were quick to laud Carlin’s razor-sharp commentary, coupled with his fearless take on controversial subjects.

One wrote, “What was really impressive about George was not just that he was great at political satire or the way he criticized society (with a great sense of humor). He was also very articulate. His stand-ups seemed mostly like captivating and funny speeches.”

Another added, “This guy is not a stand-up comedian. To sum up George Carlin in a singular term would be far too insulting for a man of his stature. A philosopher par excellence, his biting satirical takes on the inanities of mankind in general, and Americans in particular, can spark ideas and riots with equal aplomb.”

“Honesty, intelligence and humor all packed up in the personality of one man,” shared another.

George Carlin’s Career and Cultural Impact

George Carlin was one of the most influential and provocative comics in modern American history. Known for his rapid-fire delivery and sharp social commentary, Carlin reshaped modern comedy and influenced generations of performers.

Carlin’s career began in the late 1950s, and he remained an active comic and actor for nearly five decades until his death in 2008 at the age of 71. His comedy relied on bold social commentary about pop culture, politics, religion, and language.

Possibly Carlin’s most famous routine, “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,” became a defining moment in comedy history and led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case involving broadcast standards.

Carlin was not only one of the top touring acts of his time, he also released several successful comedy albums and stand-up specials that are still considered classics of the genre, including Jammin’ in New York and You Are All Diseased. His comedy was able to transcend the stand-up world, often leading or defining conversations in popular culture.

A Lasting Legacy in Stand-Up Comedy

Carlin’s fearless comedy continues to be praised by fans, celebrated by other comics, and studied to this day. His routines are still widely quoted and shared, and the comedian continues to be revered by fellow performers.

Reflecting George Carlin’s lasting impact across multiple generations, The Top Tens names George Carlin the funniest stand-up comic of all time. He’d probably have a lot to say about that.

1982 One-Hit Wonder Became a Phenomenon—But the Story Behind It Is All Over the Place

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:31am

In 1982, Tommy Tutone had a smash hit with “867-5309/Jenny.”

The song by the San Francisco-based power pop band led by Tommy Heath and Jim Keller appeared on the 1981 album Tommy Tutone 2 and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 22, 1982.

More than 40 years later, the song written by Keller and songwriter Alex Call is remembered not only for its signature guitar riff but also its catchy chorus that features a girl’s phone number—over and over—and the prank phone call craze it caused. “867-5309/Jenny” also ranked on VH1’s list of the Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the ‘80s.

Unlucky number

In the song, Heath fantasizes about calling a girl after finding her phone number on a wall. He also begs her not to change her number.

The repetition of “867-5309” in the chorus prompted a frenzy of real-life calls to that phone number in the 1980s. Prank callers looking for Jenny continued for decades, according to Snopes, and people unlucky enough to have that phone number became frustrated and had to change their number.

Was Jenny real?

The song also had fans questioning the identity of Jenny. In 1982, Keller told People magazine, “Jenny is a regular girl, not a hooker. Friends of mine wrote her name and number on a men's room wall at a bar. I called her on a dare, and we dated for a while. I haven't talked with her since the song became a hit, but I hear she thinks I'm a real jerk for writing it."

Heath concurred in an interview with Rocker. “There is an actual Jenny,” he said. “She does [know the song is about her] and that was her parents’ phone number.  But they changed it.”

Heath also told Classic bands, “I actually know Jenny and that was her parent's phone number. …I saw her about five years ago and asked her if she wanted anybody to know who she was and she said no.”

But years later, Call changed the story in an interview with Songfacts. “Despite all the mythology to the contrary, I actually just came up with the 'Jenny,' and the telephone number and the music and all that just sitting in my backyard,” the songwriter said in 2004. “There was no Jenny. I don't know where the number came from, I was just trying to write a 4-chord rock song and it just kind of came out."

"I had the guitar lick, I had the name and number, but I didn't know what the song was about," Call continued. "Jim Keller, who's the co-writer, was the lead guitar player in Tommy Tutone. He stopped by that afternoon, and he said, 'Al, it's a girl's number on a bathroom wall,' and we had a good laugh. I said, 'That's exactly right, that's exactly what it is.'”

Keller later claimed the record label came up with the idea to say Jenny was a real girl. There was never a real Jenny, and none of us saw that number anywhere,” he told Guitar Player. Our label thought we should make up a good story about it, so we went with it. It took on a life of its own.”

But Heath, who still performs as Tommy Tutone 45 years later, continues to stand by his story. In 2020, he told Forbes that the “Jenny” songwriters say he has “a tenuous hold on reality."

“But Jenny and I think she’s real, and Jim and Alex say she’s not,” the Tommy Tutone singer added. “That’s all I can say. She did give me that number, and I did write it on the bathroom wall instead of giving it to Jim. But they claim that never happened.”

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy Update: Megyn Kelly Claims ‘Today’ Show ‘Leans’ on Hosts to ‘Overshare’

Thu, 03/12/2026 - 5:27am

Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, is still missing after being kidnapped from her Tucson, Ariz., home—and Megyn Kelly recently claimed the Today show "leans" on its hosts to "overshare" after she unearthed a 2013 segment featuring the 84-year-old in her bedroom.

In a YouTube video Kelly published on March 11, she played the clip featuring Nancy. The short Today segment from 2013 showed Nancy demonstrating the proper way to make a bed.

After that, the former Today With Megyn Kelly host related her experience on the NBC morning show to the case.

"This is the thing, you guys. I mentioned this to you, but having been at the Today show for a short time, they do really lean on you to overshare," Kelly shared. "They leaned on me to overshare. It's not born out of nefarious intent. They want the audience to feel like they know you. And I get that, but you have to be really careful."

The Megyn Kelly Show host pointed out, "I think all of the Today show hosts show their children and their faces on TV. Certainly, Savannah does, Hoda [Kotb], and it's very dangerous. It's dangerous."

However, the journalist acknowledged, "The mom is a different story. I mean, I showed my mom, too. Because prior to this, nobody ever thought their mom could be potentially endangered, you know? This is a whole new kind of crime."

Kelly hosted the third hour of Today for just over a year, from September 2017 to October 2018. She exited the show following backlash over her on-air comments defending blackface in Halloween costumes.

Nancy, meanwhile, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence—in which she resided for the past 50 years—on Jan. 31. Following her sudden disappearance, the Pima County Sheriff's Office officially launched a search for her on Feb. 1. No suspect has been named, as of writing.
