Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell was going through a rough time in the early '70s that led to one of her most well-known hits, "River." The track was never meant to become a holiday classic, with details on its inspiration open to interpretation.

"River" was released in June 1971 and failed to land on the Billboard charts, but its infamy among fans made it a folk classic. Written on a piano, the track's lyrics are set during Christmas time and have a discernible sound to "Jingle Bells." While the song was never intended by the singer as such, the track was explained by critics as "there's no holiday tune that feels quite as chilly."

According to American Songwriter, Mitchell revealed years later that “‘River" expresses regret at the end of a relationship, but it’s also about being lonely at Christmastime." She also added that it's a track for people who are lonely during the holiday season.

Mitchell's lyric of "I wish I had a river, I could skate away on" captured the reflection of a lost relationship during the winter months. A common interpretation of the song's inspiration is based on Mitchell's breakup with then-boyfriend Graham Nash. The two singer-songwriters were in a high-profile relationship in the late 1960s into the early '70s. They split up as their demanding careers accelerated, and Mitchell was not ready to settle down into a long-term and committed relationship.

Nash would reveal that he never fully got over the breakup and continued writing about Mitchell for years. "River" is said to have been a result of the breakup for Mitchell, with the song also having another popular interpretation.

Longtime friend Linda Ronstadt covered "River" in 2000 and believed Mitchell's original song was about her daughter. Mitchell has spoken openly of being pregnant in the 1960s when the father of her child left her with no money during the winter. As her marriage ended, she put the child up for adoption and would later become one of music's biggest icons.

“I think that’s what a lot of her singing is about, because it has this very sad tinge,” said Ronstadt to The Washington Post.

In 1997, Mitchell learned that her daughter was looking for her biological mother, and the singer jumped at the opportunity. Her daughter, Kilauren Gibb, described their reunion as having "felt like I had gone away on a trip for a couple of months and I was coming home.”
Since the release of "River," it's been covered more than 1,000 times by various artists.

Remember Herman’s Hermits? One of the massive driving forces of the British Invasion in 1964, they were a wholesome pop-rock band led by former child star Peter Noone and the source of some of the greatest oldies music and classic rock radio hits of all time.

“You would think that with no less than 18 top 40 hits in the space of four years at the height of the decade, Herman’s Hermits would have maintained a much more noticeable cultural presence than they do,” Far Outwrites. “Indeed, they were even considered one of the most successful acts of the British Invasion at the time, except with very little of the legacy to show for it.” 

If you don’t recall the band that became a global commercial juggernaut by name, there is no doubt you know every word to at least one of their many smash hits, beginning with their debut single, “I’m Into Something Good.”

Written by legendary songwriting duo Gerry Goffin and Carole King, whose catalog is filled with classic pop songs, the lighthearted 1964 hit song about young love was originally recorded by The Cookies’ Earl-Jean (Ethel McCrea) and released in June 1964. It wasn’t until the following month, though, that producer Mickey Most snatched it up for his shiny, new boy group who turned it into not just a breezy, chart-topping smash but cross-generational hit.

“On the record you can hear the enthusiasm of this band who believed that they were going to be heard on the radio,” Noone told Songfacts. “When the record was on the radio, we thought we’d made it.”

The pop-rock anthem shot straight to the top of the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, knocking The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” from its perch, and peaked at No. 13 on Billboard's Hot 100. 

Blending infectious pop-rock tones with a universally relatable message of innocent optimism and teenage exuberance, the track has transcended time through classic rock radio, as well as prominent placements in beloved films, from The Naked Gun to Ouija: Origin of Evil, and television, from The Partridge Family to Family Guy.

Subsequent covers by Donnie Osmond, Brian Wilson, and other have only helped cement the song as an iconic fixture in pop culture.  

A harbinger for the success to come, the breakthrough hit was followed by two U.S. No. 1 hits: “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lonely Daughter” and “I’m Henry The VIII, I Am.” Overall, the band would secure 18 Top 40 hits in just four years, a Far Out pointed out.  

Founded in Manchester, England, Herman’s Hermits became one of the most commercially successful acts in American music history, even outselling The Beatles. Fronted by 16-year-old Noone, the band also featured guitarists Derek Leckenby and Keith Hopwood, bassist Karl Green, and drummer Barry Whitwam. The lineup would later include future Led Zeppelin star John Paul Jones.

Throughout their brief run, Herman’s Hermits maintained a high profile as international stars, with their mid-60s output representing a defining chapter of the era's pop rock and beat music landscape. Though the group ended prematurely in 1971, with Noone leaving to pursue a solo career, the outfit continues to tour today, with two active legacy iterations: one led by Noone and the other starring Whitwam.

While living in his girlfriend's home on Wimpole Street, Paul McCartneyawoke from a dream with a melody in his head. He rushed to a piano to write it down in order to not forget it. For several weeks after the fact, McCartney was convinced he must have inadvertently plagiarized another melody saying: "For about a month I went round to people in the music business and asked them whether they had ever heard it before. Eventually it became like handing something in to the police."

After coming to the conclusion that he had not plagiarized the tune, McCartney began working on fully composing the song with John Lennon. Lennon and McCartney would often use placeholder lyrics, and did so with this song and it became somewhat of a joke within the band. The "original" lyrics being "Scrambled eggs/Oh my baby how I love your legs/Not as much as I love scrambled eggs")."

In May of 1965, McCartney had a breakthrough on the lyrics and ended up completing the song. The song would end up being the acoustic ballad, "Yesterday."

Compared to other songs in the discography for The Beatles, "Yesterday" is shockingly simple. Featuring only McCartney on guitar and vocals with a simple string quartet behind him, the song lasts less than two minutes in run time.

"Yesterday" has gone on to be one of the most recorded songs in music history, and holds the Guinness World Record for most covers of a single song, with there being over 4,000 on record. The simple track was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1997. According to the BBC, "Yesterday" is fourth-most-successful song of all time in terms of royalties paid, having amassed a total of over 20 million pounds over time.

On the list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time,"Rolling Stone ranked "Yesterday" at number 13. While most people interpret the song as something of a breakup anthem, when asked if it could have been related to the loss of his mother, McCartney said, "I didn't mean it to be, but it could be."

Worried about loneliness in retirement? You're not alone. Many people report feeling lonely in retirement since their day-to-day connections with the people they work with become forever changed.

Some psychologists even have a name for this trend, and they call it the "friendship cliff." However, not everyone has to fall off of it. According to the experts we spoke with, there are some steps you can take ahead of time to make sure that you don't lose those social connections. And best of all, they also offered up some tips on how you can climb back from the edge if you feel like you're about to fall off.

What is the Friendship Cliff?

This phrase refers to the diminishing number of work and social relationships as we begin to enter retirement, according to Dr. Jeff Gardere, Professor, Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist.

"Many of our social and personal connections are related to the structure of work," he says. "When we retire, that structure is now gone and so go many of the relationships that were associated with work and that were also connecting to our social lives."

Dr. Gardere explains that this phase of life can often highlight just how much that proximity to our colleagues and our shared goals contribute to those relationships. Then, once we hit retirement age, those connections begin to dwindle (or disappear) and people are faced with the reality that the friendships they thought they had weren't really as close as they once appeared.

Not only that, but Dr. Clint Salo, a Board-Certified Psychiatrist and Medical Director with The Grove Recovery Community, says that many retirees discover that these friendships require additional effort once you leave the workforce. “For many people, work provides built-in opportunities to socialize," he says. "Once retirement begins, those casual conversations and shared experiences disappear, and friendships can gradually fade if they aren’t intentionally maintained."

This can start as early as when you truly start planning your exit strategy at work, explains Heather Oller, MS, LMHC, Founder and CEO of Orlando Thrive Therapy. "All of a sudden, every day feels like Saturday, and you realize you'll only see acquaintances if you take the initiative."

Warning Signs You're Falling Off the Friendship Cliff

Dr. Gardere notes that while some people's experiences may vary, there are a few things you can be on the lookout for if you're worried about falling off the friendship cliff, and they include:

• Feeling isolated even though you have more free time
• Getting fewer invitations to social events
• Withdrawing from or losing the drive to engage in social activities
• Feeling lonely, bored, or disconnected.

"These changes can occur gradually, and they become easy to overlook until we begin to feel unusual amounts of isolation and even loneliness," he adds.

How to Climb Back From the Friendship Cliff

If you noticed several of the signs that Dr. Gardere mentioned, then it's likely you're experiencing the friendship cliff. Fortunately, Dr. Salo says that these issues can be reversible if you catch it early and you're willing to do the work.

"The biggest mistake is waiting for someone else to reach out," he says, adding that you should try to reconnect with old friends, and try to make plans for something as simple as a cup of coffee. "Building and maintaining friendships takes intention, especially after retirement."

And Oller adds that it's important to be extra mindful if your friends are also in retirement, and likely experiencing similar feelings. That may make it harder to reconnect with them, especially if they've already withdrawn and isolated as a result of losing those connections.

"Friendship loss in retirement is not simply a social issue; it is a health issue," Dr. Gardere adds. "Research has shown that strong social connections are linked to lower rates of depression, cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and premature mortality." He adds that retirement isn't just a matter of leaving your job and heading off somewhere else, it's about transitioning into a new identity. And when done right, that should include a more leisurely lifestyle, but also one that includes purpose and socializing.

By the mid-1980s, singer-songwriter Carly Simon — one of the defining voices of the '70s — was having trouble finding an '80s audience. Then an opportunity to write a song for a Meryl Streep film turned into one of the biggest hits of Simon's career and a lasting anthem about resilience, second chances and finding your way back.

Learning to start over and rebuild after disappointment, heartbreak or a setback is a very relatable human experience. That's one reason Simon's song "Coming Around Again" connected so deeply with listeners. Her lyrics so aptly say, "I know nothing stays the same / But if you're willing to play the game / It's coming around again." Little did Simon know that the song's message of perseverance would end up mirroring her own career revival.

Simon's 1980 hit "Jesse" reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, but the next six years passed without another major chart breakthrough. "Coming Around Again" would change that.

Simon wrote "Coming Around Again" for the 1986 film Heartburn, which was attached to many high-profile names in Hollywood. The screenplay by writer Nora Ephron was adapted from her semi-autobiographical 1983 novel about the breakdown of her marriage to journalist Carl Bernstein. The film starred Streep and Jack Nicholson, and the song's prominent placement in the film helped introduce it to a wide audience and set it up for success.

Although the song returned Simon to the charts, she never viewed it as a comeback. Simon told the Chicago Tribune, ”I don't perceive this as a comeback although it could be perceived that way by people who have not followed my career through the years where there hasn't necessarily been a hit off of an album. But it certainly isn't to me; I didn't drop out at any time.”

More than anything, the song stood as a testament to Simon's staying power amid the natural highs and lows of a long and evolving musical career.

In fact, as the B-side of the single, Simon included a rendition of the nursery rhyme "Itsy Bitsy Spider," doubling down on her A-Side message of resilience with the metaphor of the spider climbing back up again and again, despite being washed down.

Heartburn opened in theaters on July 25, 1986, and "Coming Around Again" was released as a single. By November 1986, the track was No. 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and by January 1987, it peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Simon later released the song on her 13th studio album Coming Around Again in April 1987.

In an interview with NPR, journalist Scott Simon (no relation) called out the lyrics, "Don't mind if I fall apart / There's more room in a broken heart" as a favorite line. To which, Carly responded, "You know, that's so much a part of life, being able to embrace the broken heart, not just cast it off as having no meaning or trying to get rid of it."

The track not only became one of Simon's biggest hits but also one of her most enduring. In 2025, Alanis Morissette and Simon recorded a duet version of the song, which was featured in the film My Mother's Wedding, directed by Kristin Scott Thomas. On Ranker, fans have upvoted it to No. 1 among the "Best Carly Simon Songs of All Time," and the song has more than 180 million streams on Spotify, to date. Nearly 40 years later, "Coming Around Again" remains a reminder that setbacks aren't permanent — and that reinvention is often closer than it seems.

A whopping 43% of Americans say they can’t cover a $1,000 emergency with their savings. A decade ago, the recommended amount to have put aside was $1,000, but that’s no longer enough money to help you out of a jam. This outdated benchmark doesn’t hold up in today’s strained economy. So what is the recommendation, and is it even attainable?

$1,000 Doesn’t Go As Far As It Used To

From March 2025 to March 2026, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index reported that all items rose 3.8% over the last 12 months. A U.S. News report shows that, in addition to 43% of Americans unable to cover a $1,000 emergency, 40% have no savings at all. Inflation is the number one reason Americans can no longer afford to save. 

According to Statista, wages were beginning to catch up with inflation by February 2026, but the war in Iran spiked prices so significantly that the gains were outpaced once again. It’s a double whammy for the American public. Wages are stagnant, which stymies saving, and the economy forces people to dip into savings to make ends meet.

What The Data Shows

A Bankrate survey found that 85% of Americans would need at least 3 months of savings to feel comfortable. That’s a staggering number compared to the one above, with almost half having nothing in the bank.

The American public knows what it needs and what it can’t afford, but the ability to close that gap isn’t presenting itself. Not only are wages stagnant, but the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the unemployment rate at 4.3% as of May 2026, according to Trading Economics. 

What The Experts Recommend

We reached out to several experts who had differing opinions on the starting total for emergency funds.

"For households, a realistic emergency fund is about three months of essential bills. This usually comes out to around $15,000 to $20,000. Not $1,000," says Achim von Bodman, CFP / Senior Tax Manager at Watter CPA. "The old rule of having $1,000 quietly stopped working. The reason is simple. A thousand dollars can cover one car repair. It does not cover what actually sinks people. Which is going a week without a paycheck."

Steve Sexton, CEO of Sexton Advisory Group, notes that your total should represent your finances: "I’d treat one month of essential expenses as the new starter emergency fund, not $1,000. That means enough to cover the basics — housing, utilities, groceries, gas, insurance, and minimum debt payments — because one car repair, medical bill, or deductible can wipe out $1,000 pretty quickly today. From there, work toward 3-6 months of expenses over time, depending on your job stability, income, family responsibilities, and health needs."

How much you save will depend on your circumstances. People with job security may be able to get away with 3-6 months of expenses saved, while freelancers or contract workers may need up to 12 months. 

"I recommend to my clients 3 to 6 months' worth of spending, not just your bills, but your actual spending. Then build to 9 months' worth of spending, which gives you that extra time to find what you need or for the economic cycle to change," says Regina McCann Hess, CFP, CDFA, and President of Forge Wealth Management.

How To Build Savings When Money Is Tight

It may feel overwhelming when you’re struggling to put food on the table to consider creating a savings account. The key is to start small. Even $5 a week into an emergency fund could help cushion the blow of an unexpected expense later on. 

Take a look at your current budget. The tighter it is, the more disciplined you have to be in sticking to it, says WTOP News. It may be worth considering a small part-time job, even temporarily, to build an emergency fund. 

If saving feels overwhelming, consider paying for things in cash and banking your change. Absentmindedly tossing your coins into a jar could be enough to buy a new tire after a month or two. It might not seem like much, but in the future, you will appreciate the effort if it’s ever needed.

A 2026 Indeed Flex press release shows that retirees are taking a different approach to the end of their careers. And while many people are enjoying their downtime, one in three people surveyed said that they would consider returning to work in a temporary or flexible capacity. But it wasn't just financial pressure driving that decision, according to the survey findings, 52 percent said they missed the social interactions they got at work.

If you're missing the connections you once had at work, but aren't ready to head back into the office, it could be time to consider finding a "third place" to spend time. Psychologists say this is the missing piece for many retirees who are longing for social connections once they leave the workforce. And, according to the experts we spoke with, it is easy enough to find once you know what to look for.

What is a Third Place?

The phrase "third place" is a sociological one that was coined by Ray Oldenburg in the 1989 book The Great Good Place, and it is used to refer to a place that is not your home (first place) or work (second place, but for younger people, this can also be school). "Historically, they've included places of worship as well as community centers such as the YMCA or in the more distant past, community squares where people gather," Dr. Stephanie Freitag, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, and Founder of New Gen Psychology, says.

These are the places where community happens naturally, Dr. Katherine Loflin, Founder of The City Doctor, explains. "They provide opportunities for social interaction, personal growth, and a sense of belonging without requiring a formal invitation," she says, adding that more importantly, they provide a place where you can "develop meaningful emotional connections" to the people and community in the space, without actually having to know everyone personally.

Some examples of third places include:

• Coffee shop
• Local park
• Library
• Volunteer organization
• Community gathering space

However, in your neighborhood, these places could look different and may include churches, pickleball courts, or other gathering places.

Why Retirees Need a Third Place More Than Anyone

From a research perspective, Dr. Loflin says third places help satisfy one of humanity's most fundamental needs: social belonging. "Research consistently shows that people thrive when they feel connected, valued, and part of a community," she continues. "Third places provide the repeated experiences and interactions that foster those feelings, making them essential not only for social well-being but also for overall quality of life."

But these places are essential for more than just adults over 60. "Third places are not just important to retirees but to society as a whole," Dr. Freitag adds. "We need places to congregate to build social connections that aren't tied to work/education."

How to Find Your Perfect Third Place

If you don't already have a third place in mind, Dr. Freitag says you should start by looking at places you already frequent or that have an emotional connection for you. She says it could look like finding something that connects to your hobbies, artistic interests, or a leisurely activity you love. "I encourage people to go to this space on a regular basis because a one-off experience will not yield deeper social connections or a sense of community," she says, adding that you should try out a venue multiple times before deciding whether it's the right fit for you.

And don't expect to commit to one place right away, either. Matt Grammer, LPCC-S, a mental health professional and the founder of Therapy Trainings, says you should give yourself plenty of flexibility as you check out potential spots. "Curiosity over commitment is a great rule to follow," he says. "So, take a look at lots of different choices, attend an event many times, and be aware of the places you have to try to contain excitement and the places that energize you."

"In my work studying place attachment, I've found that people connect to places through a variety of pathways, including relationships, memories, experiences, identity, and personal goals," Dr. Loflin adds. "A retiree who loves history may find deep fulfillment volunteering at a historic site, while someone who values wellness may find that same sense of connection through a walking group, fitness class, or local trail."

As for when you should start looking, Grammer says the sooner, the better. "The social transition of retirement can be abrupt, and people can underestimate that," he says. "I tell my clients to begin their searches during the last year or two of their work so they have the connections to social sticks they need when they retire."

How to Know You've Found the Right One

Dr. Loflin offers this quick guide to determine whether a third place is right for you, saying that the right place will share these characteristics:

• You feel welcomed and accepted
• The place is easy to visit regularly
• It encourages interaction over isolation
• Participants share common experiences, interests, or values
• It offers opportunities to contribute, serve others, or learn
• It's easy to recognize other people who frequent the space over time
• You leave feeling fulfilled, energized, and connected

"I generally encourage retirees to explore several options before deciding what fits best," Dr. Loflin concludes. "Finding a third place is much like finding a favorite restaurant or neighborhood—you may need to experience a few before discovering where you truly belong."

How to Get the Eagle Cup From Dunkin’

The already-viral and limited edition Eagle Cup will be available at participating Dunkin’ locations for one day only—on June 29th.

And if you've ever tried to get something limited, you know what you have to do! As they say, the early bird gets the worm, so waking up early and getting in line to snag one is going to be crucial, as they will only be available while supplies last. Reports indicate there will be roughly 20 cups per store.

As with the previously released Barbie cup, customers can purchase it for $10.99, which comes with a free medium beverage, served separately.

There will also reportedly be a code inside the cup that can be used for $3 Medium Dunkin’ Zero drinks
 or $3 Medium Refreshers.

You can call your local Dunkin' ahead of time to see if they are participating and will carry the cup.

Costco shopper @costcojacque just spotted Three Dots cotton-blend shorts in stores and online, and many fans say they're surprisingly good for the price. The shorts come in rust, brown and black and are available in sizes XS–XL.

The shorts also feature two pockets, which is always a bonus in my book. They have lightweight fabric, a stretchy waistband and a super comfortable fit. Some shoppers even recommend sizing down.

Back in 1981, pop culture was defined by the wedding of Princess Diana, the launch of MTV, and songs that 45 years later still get stuck in our heads. One such song was the hit single "Jessie's Girl" from Australian rock superstar, Rick Springfield. The global chart topper would go on to win Springfield his only Grammy award in 1982.

Recently, Springfield took to the stage in Indiana on tour with Sammy Hagar and performed the career-defining hit. The performance, which took place on June 14th, shocked fans in the best way possible.

Springfield shot to stardom in the 1980s with his music career, and became synonymous with power pop rock anthems. In addition to his music career, Springfield has also found plenty of success on both the big and the small screens. America’s Got Talent finds some of its best talent internationally and such was the case with the dance troupe Come Here that flew in from South Korea to audition for judges Simon Cowell, Mel B,Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara.

Come Here filled the stage with its energy as the 23-member troupe’s dance style is unique in that it’s a combination of several styles of dance rather than just one.

Watching the judges reaction during the performance, it appears that Come Here will receive an enthusiastic four yeses from the judges, but will it be enough to get them through to the live shows? Only 44 acts make it through and 10 of those slots are filled by the Golden Buzzers.

To date, Simon gave his Golden Buzzer to singer Lai Noelle, host Terry Crewsused his first one for the dance/dog act Acro Canine Crew, Howie awarded both of his to rapper Luke Taleno and the magic act Hundred Fingers, and Sofia used hers for singer Lara D. Mel B has yet to make a commitment.

Naturally, Aldi shoppers collectively lost their minds when the retailer first introduced an ultra-affordable reformer-inspired machine in its famed Aldi Finds aisle. It's the kind of item that has people speed-walking through the automatic doors the second the store opens. And now the Crane Fitness Reformer Board is back for $39.99.

This season's Aldi reformer board is the same one it sold back in September 2025. It's foldable, which makes the board really easy to store, and comes with two resistance bands you can plug in for standing work, as well as built-in elbow pads on rails for those targeted core exercises.

Since this isn't Aldi's first rodeo with a reformer board, there are plenty of reviews online to help current shoppers decide whether it's worth scooping up when it hits stores on Wednesday, June 17.

"I got the one from last year," says a member of the Aldi Aisle of Shame Community Facebook Group. "I like it. The paddles are spring loaded so they have some resistance but nothing too crazy. Easy to use for someone just starting to workout and only using body weight."

What I will say is that one of my favorite sections of any Pilates class is footwork, which you can't do with this reformer board because, well, there isn't a foot bar. There isn't the ability to do feet in straps, either. With that in mind, it's a nifty item to have around when you want to squeeze a workout in without hitting a studio. And there's a lot to be said for that.

The clue: "He's got 12 Oscar nominations & 2 wins & a Henry Mancini Award from ASCAP & in 2018 received the German Order of Merit."

The answer: "Who is Hans Zimmer?"

Remsen went into the FJ round with a massive lead of $28,400 at the end of DJ, compared to Rahman’s and McCleskey’s $1,600 and $6,000, respectively. 

While Rahman was the only one to answer the question correctly, he wagered only $25 for a third-place total of $1,625. 

Remsen’s wager and incorrect answer didn’t matter as much, as he dropped down to $21,800 with the wrong response of “Who is Frankenheimer,” taking his third consecutive win. Meanwhile, McCleskey wagered $2,700, not enough to beat Remsen either way, got it wrong with “Who is John Williams,” and walked away in second place with a final total o $3,300.  

Remsen will be back on Wednesday for attempt number 4.

As Heated Rivalry prepares to film its second season this summer, Deadline announced that François Arnaud from the hockey drama show has joined the cast of Hulu’s upcoming series Count My Lies.

Arnaud has joined the series in a recurring role, playing Danny, the friend of Lindsay Lohan’s character, Violet.

According to Deadline, in Count My Lies, a compulsive liar, Sloane (Shailene Woodley), fibs her way into a nanny position for Violet and Jay Lockhart (Kit Harington). It seems like she’s landed her dream job, “but little does Sloane know, she’s just entered a household brimming with secrets that are about to explode — with potentially catastrophic consequences for all.”

The series is based on a recent novel by Sophie Stava of the same name. It was chosen as the GMA Book Club Pick for March 2025, with Good Morning America calling it “an unputdownable suspense novel about deception, privilege and the price of keeping up appearances.”

The TV show will also feature Sophia Bush, known for her role as Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill. She’ll be playing Allison, a “stylish Tribeca architect and mother,” according to Deadline. Her role was announced in April, and she took to Instagram to share the news.

“New York City with Shailene Woodley, Lindsay Lohan, and Hulu? Why yes, yes I would like a bite of that apple,” Bush posted.

Arnaud also posted about his casting announcement to his Instagram story, simply captioning it with a smiley emoji.

It was recently announced that Heated Rivalry will begin filming this August, with a release date set for spring of 2027. Although it hasn’t been confirmed if Arnaud will return as Scott Hunter in Heated Rivalry, his partner in the show, Robbie G.K., who played Kip Grady, is hoping the two will reprise their roles.

If your blonde has gone from icy and bright to vaguely yellow and sad since your last salon visit, you're not imagining it. Brassiness is one of the most common complaints among color-treated hair clients, and it's also one of the most preventable.

The fix is simpler and cheaper than a toning appointment, and it lives in your shower. Purple shampoo has been a hairstylist staple for decades, but a lot of people are still using it wrong, using it too much or not using it at all and wondering why their color-treated hair looks dull within weeks of leaving the salon.

And it’s not your fault! Brassiness isn't a hair failure. It's just chemistry. When hair is lightened, the underlying warm pigments get exposed over time through oxidation, sun exposure, heat styling and even the minerals in your shower water.

The cool, bright tone your colorist worked to achieve starts fading after just a few washes, and without something to counteract it, yellow and orange creep back in. Purple shampoo sits opposite yellow on the color wheel, which means its violet pigments cancel out those warm tones every time you wash—no salon visit required.

We asked them about how purple shampoo actually works, who needs it and which formulas they'd use themselves.

What Is Purple Shampoo and How Does It Work?

Haygood says that the purple in the shampoo counteracts any yellow tones, canceling out brassy hues and leaving hair more neutral.

Arrojo puts it another way: "Think of it as makeup for your hair color—a quick way to refresh your tone between salon visits." The violet pigments coat the hair shaft during washing and neutralize whatever warmth has crept in since your last color service, leaving blonde hair brighter, silver hair cleaner and gray hair noticeably less yellow.

What it doesn't do is lighten or bleach. Our experts were very clear that purple shampoo simply tones, keeping your color looking fresh between appointments.

Who Should Use Purple Shampoo?

Simply put, more people than are currently using it. Haygood points out that it's not just for blondes—it's fab for silver, gray and even brunette hair with highlights or balayage. Hakim agrees, noting that natural gray hair specifically benefits because it brightens the hair and reduces the yellow discoloration that comes from environmental exposure over time.

Gadegaard says that for anyone with extensions, purple shampoo isn't optional. "Extensions can oxidize and shift warm over time just like natural hair," she explains. "Purple shampoo is not optional. It is maintenance."

How Often Should You Use Purple Shampoo?

Once to three times a week is the consistent recommendation, but the right frequency depends on your specific hair. Hakim advises clients not to overdo it—too much can leave hair looking dull or over-toned, which is a different kind of unflattering. Very platinum or freshly toned hair may only need it once a week. Hair with more warmth or hard water exposure can handle more frequent use.

Gadegaard's advice is to pay attention to what your hair is telling you. "If it starts looking dull or brassy, reach for it," she says. "If it starts looking too ashy or cool, pull back a little." The goal is a neutral, bright tone—not lavender.

Can Purple Shampoo Dry Out Your Hair?

It can, and the experts are upfront about it. Hakim notes that the toning pigments and cleansing agents in many purple shampoos are stronger than in regular formulas, which matters most for already-lightened hair that's naturally more porous and moisture-deprived. Her solution is to always follow with a deeply hydrating conditioner or mask.

Gadegaard recommends rotating a nourishing formula in between toning wash days rather than using purple shampoo every single wash. "It restores softness and shine without weighing the hair down," she says of her Laced Hair Care Moisture Masque, which she uses specifically on purple shampoo days. Choosing a formula with moisturizing ingredients built in is the other fix—and several of the picks below do exactly that.

What Causes Brassiness and Dullness in Blonde Hair?

Brassiness is the warm underlying pigment in hair reasserting itself after color fades. Arrojo breaks it into two distinct issues. Brassiness comes from oxidation—sun exposure, heat styling, hard water, pollution and even regular washing all gradually shift blonde hair toward warmer yellow or orange tones.

Dullness is a different problem, he says, explaining, "When the hair cuticle becomes rough, it reflects less light, causing blonde hair to lose its brightness and shine."

It was revealed on Tuesday that Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell reunited with his former bandmates in Sweet Savage to record two new songs.

Sweet Savage frontman Ray Haller confirmed to Eonmusic at the Download Festival last weekend, where he told reporter Eamon O'Neill that Campbell and the band made new music recently, marking Campbell's first contribution to Sweet Savage since leaving in 1982.

"Universal [wanted] to put out all the old stuff, so we're going to," Haller said. "We've gone through all these tapes and all these recordings from the '80s. Then Viv and I came up with the idea, 'Why don't we do two new ones?' So we recorded two new songs, and they're ready to rock and roll."

The new music will showcase the quality of the group's songwriting and style from the 1980s, which helped establish them as one of the most respected bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. The two new songs were supposed to be released earlier this year, but due to Def Leppard's touring schedule and Campbell's inability to promote the songs, it was pushed back to an early 2027 release instead.

Sweet Savage was formed in 1979 by Campbell, Haller, Trev Fleming and David Bates in Belfast, Ireland. Since its formation, they have released four studio albums and are considered the pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, alongside Iron Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head and Def Leppard. After not being able to produce a studio album, Sweet Savage went on a hiatus in 1983, but came back with a different lineup a year later. After multiple changes in the past 50 years, Sweet Savage's current members are Haller, Marty McCloskey and Phil Edgar.

Despite Campbell leaving in 1983, he and Haller remained good friends over the years. After leaving Sweet Savage, Campbell worked with multiple bands and artists, including Dio, Whitesnake, Lou Gramm and the Riverdogs. In April 1992, the Irish guitarist joined Def Leppard to replace Steve Clark, their former guitarist, who passed away in January 1991. Campbell also dabbled in some solo work during the 2000s and early 2010s.

Sweet Savage released their latest album, Bang, which came out on Sept. 12, 2025, via German music label earMusic. Although Campbell's tenure with Sweet Savage was brief, his guitar work on their early recordings became a defining part of their legacy.

"The two new songs are absolutely amazing," Haller said. "It's Viv, and it's the Viv that we know."

On June 16, Joseph Duggar appeared in a Florida courtroom remotely for two motions he filed in May to modify a no-contact order.

The 19 Kids and Counting star is currently facing an underage sexual assault case. He has two charges of lewd and lascivious behavior, and was released from jail on a $600k bond. Duggar was in court to modify the conditions of his pre-trial release.

One of the motions “sought permission for Duggar to perform work at several rental properties he owns, which would place him within 500 feet of his alleged victim,” according to People. The second motion would allow him to see his four children unsupervised. The judge denied both motions.

Duggar asserted that he had been unable to see his children, which the judge took issue with. Duggar is able to see his children with supervision.

According to the first motion, Duggar was attempting to amend the order banning him from visiting “a number of land parcels that he owns due to their proximity to the home where his alleged victim resides with her family,” People reported.

The motion said that the alleged victim and her family have moved. However, this motion was also denied.

Duggar’s sister, Joy-Anna Forsyth, recently opened up about how she’s been doing since her brother’s arrest. On an episode of The Jinger & JeremyPodcast, hosted by her sister Jinger Duggar Vuolo, Forsyth admitted she’s been struggling.

“It’s already impacted my family so much,” Forsyth said. “I feel like the more I talk about it publicly, the more it just gets rubbed in our faces and I want to just move on with life in some ways.”

Duggar’s pre-trial court date is set for July 14. He will head to trial on August 10.

And now, fresh off her juicy turn in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Gellar is set to star alongside Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks) in the upcoming movie Thud, where they’ll respectively play the juicy roles of the Grim Reaper and the Devil, Deadline reports.

The romance story sees the infamous personas meet cute at a three-day destination wedding, falling in love after colliding at the event where they’ve each come to sow their own chaos, Deadline also noted on Tuesday, June 16.

Gellar's other recent projects include Showtime’s Dexter: Original Sin and a cameo in Sony’s reboot of the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise.

Pankow, 28, will next be seen in Hulu’s comedy Never Change!, which is coming off its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, per Deadline.

Thud will be helmed by Mali Elfman, whose feature directorial debut was the genre-bender Next Exit, which also premiered at Tribeca and was released in theaters in 2022.

Earlier this month, Gellar paid tribute to Anthony Head after the fellow Buffy actor died at age 72. The actress took to Instagram to share a quote from their beloved series, something she had done for both the passing of Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendon.

She posted: “Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok” Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok. But I know I’m the lucky one because I knew you. Thank you to Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world.”

While including the line from the show, she added her own words, because quite frankly, she doesn’t “have it figured out.”
